(bright upbeat music) - DonorConnect is a nonprofit community service organization dedicated to the recovery and transplantation of organs and tissues for Utah, Southeastern Idaho, Western Wyoming, and Elko, Nevada.
And here to tell us more is Brady Dransfield.
Hi, Brady.
Thanks for being here.
- Hi there.
Thanks for having me.
- You cover a huge area, and how many medical centers do you work with?
- We do, we cover a lot of the medical centers along the Wasatch Front, parts of Idaho, Nevada, and also Wyoming, so we cover quite a large area.
- Oh wow, it's huge.
And the walk is obviously a fundraiser.
- The walk is a fundraiser, and it's a great way to come out and celebrate the gift of life and honor those donors, those families who've lost loved ones.
So it's a great cause and a great time.
So those people who are impacted by donation and/or a recipient, come out and join us.
It's a great time.
- And you'll be on August 5th and?
- August 5th at Sugarhouse Park.
Now, this year is a special year.
It celebrates our 25th year of doing this race.
- [Mary] Wow.
- Yeah, so we're very proud of that and want everybody to come out and celebrate with us.
- That is great.
And then talk about how people become a donor.
- Becoming a donor, you can do it one of two ways.
You can do it as you get your driver's license, you can sign up and register as a donor, and/or you can just go online.
Say if you haven't become a donor, you are interested, you can go online.
You can go to donorconnect.life, and there, there is a place to register and to become a donor.
- Okay, great.
And there's obviously always a need.
- Definitely, there's always a need.
United States, there's a list of 104,000 people on the waiting list to receive the gift of life for that organ or whatever it may be.
Here in Utah, there are more than 800 people on that waiting list.
So definitely there is a need, and you can be a hero by signing up as a registered donor.
- Great.
Well, thank you Brady for being here, and good luck with everything.
Thanks.
- Thank you, appreciate it.
- And if you'd like to know more about that walk for life, it's the Gift of Life, actually, a walk/run for DonorConnect, August 5th, registration at seven.
The walk actually starts at eight and goes through 11:00 a.m. at Sugarhouse Park.
Go to donorconnect.life.
That's donorconnect.life.
I'm Mary Dickson.
