Dr. Maude A. Sanders provided care for Peoria’s minority population and the poor.
Dr. Maude A. Sanders graduated from medical school in 1939 and completed her internship and residency at a black charity hospital in St. Louis. She moved to Peoria in 1942 and opened her first office above an auto parts store on S.W. Adams Street. For nearly five decades, Dr. Sanders delivered babies, made house calls and cared for patients at her office and in the hospital.
