(lively music) - Dutch Social Club of Utah and the Old Dutch Store are celebrating Dutch King's Day for the second year in a row.
And here to tell us about this year's event is Katie Reid.
Hi Katie, welcome back.
So it's your second year already.
- Yes.
King's Day, okay.
Tell people, first of all, what is King's Day?
- Koningsdag, King's Day, Koningsdag is a celebration in the Netherlands of the birthday of King Willem-Alexander.
They celebrate it like the 4th of July, take the day off, have parties, but the only difference is they wear lots of orange.
- [Mary] Ah-ha, ah-ha, which you're wearing now.
- Yes.
- A nice T-shirt for this year.
So tell us a little about what you're doing this year.
I know, fact I learned from you, they are more bicycles than people.
- Yes, the Dutch are cyclists.
They don't drive, they cycle.
So we're celebrating by having an all ages decorated orange bicycle ride around the gateway where we'll have prizes for the best decorated bike and some other things.
- Okay, and I know you've got a lot going on.
You're bringing a DJ in from Amsterdam.
What other things are you doing?
- Well, we're super excited to have the Dutch consulate visit again to give his remarks and then we'll, but there's something for all ages.
There's kids crafts.
There's a vintage market.
We have even an after party at Flinkers upstairs.
- Okay, you've got a lot.
And I know this year you've got a new thing to honor the legacy of being Dutch.
Talk about that.
- Yes, we just wanted to honor our Dutch heritage by having our, it's called a Love Your Legacy Wall.
People can bring photos of family members, they can write messages to those who have passed, just to kinda pass along some fun stories and knowledge about their heritage.
- Okay, and you don't have to be Dutch to go.
- No, no.
We are all encompassing everybody.
- All right, all right.
Well, good luck with it and thank you for being here.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about what's planned for the second annual Dutch Social Club of Utah's Dutch King's Day, it's April 22nd from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Gateway.
