Ecolibrium3 is trying to create a more equitable and just world.

They do a whole bunch of different projects.

We happen to be one of the branches.

My name is August Walheim.

I am the energy training corp food access team leader here at the Ecolibrium3 Urban Farm.

Today we have our summer sampler event.

So it is an event in which we invite the public to come on to our farm and eat some food, that we grew Learn about the origin of agriculture practices that we use on site.

And just see the work that we're doing.

An urban farm is going to be a farm that is typically inside of the city limits.

So we are currently sitting on top of land that is owned by Lake Superior College, and we are leasing this land from them.

We have some challenges sometimes with the soils that we are working with.

This was a dump location where we had, dumped material from the construction of the H Building right next to us, and other construction projects.

So we had soils that were had minimal to no nutrients in it.

What we try to do here is we try and have living roots in the system, in the soil, as much as possible.

We don't use intensive chemicals on site.

We introduce organic matter from the compost that we make on site.

Right now, we have a crew of roughly 20 AmeriCorps volunteers.

So we're helping those members learn the skills that they probably would not have had easily easy access to prior.

But we also have Saturday workshops that are open and free to the public.

They're posted on the Ecolibrium3.org website, as well as on a Facebook page, that we openly invite the community to come and attend.

You don't need a giant space to grow food and growing your own food It's a process that you don't expect that you'll enjoy as much as you do.
