I'm Emily Callende from Morgantown, West Virginia.
You may know me as the host of Exploration Outer Space from my Netflix show, Emily's Wonder Lab, or on the internet at the Space Gal.
I'm an aerospace engineer, and I'm here to tell you that you, too, can have an exciting career in science, technology, engineering, and math right here in West Virginia.
It all takes educatio and training also all available right here in our state.
So we're going to go meet some people who are going to tell us all about it.
Because remember, the future is you.
I'm Je and I'm an analytic consultant at New ERA Technolog and Scott Depot, West Virginia.
Jen, thank you so much for joining us here today.
Can you tell us a little bi about what you do for a living?
Sure.
I am an analytics consultant, so I basically help business businesses use the data they already have to make decisions, and we help put it on structured data together so they can answer questions about their business that they might have here.
Specifically we do a lot of work with Cisco.
They're a huge player in technology.
And what types of certifications or maybe degrees majors.
What kind of people are you looking for?
You got it hot right now as application development computer programmers, right.
Folks that are building the the tools that we're using.
So that's a hot ticket.
Also, we need folks that are in communication, communications, folks that will set up servers that will set up the cables, go, you know, scout place out and say, what does this need from an infrastructure?
What's the architecture of it?
How are we going to build it and make it happen?
So those guys would be more like to left specialist.
They would do routing.
You know, if you pick up your your phone and call a number, you know somebody has got to make that happen.
It's not magic.
So they do a lot of that.
Jen, what types of kid would be able to do all of this coding that you see today?
Really anybody could do it if they had an interest in doing it.
It is as simple as putting a zero or a one on a piece of paper.
If you can write zeros and ones or periods and lines, you can code.
When I was young, we mined coal and now I want to mine information like that's a thing and we can do it from anywhere right here.
There you have it.
There is so much out there to get excited about.
So get started today.
Ask your school counselor about Stem education, including career technical education opportunities that are available through your school.
The field of science and technology need you, and I'm telling you, the rewards are out of this world.
I'm Emily Calandra.
And until next time, remember the future is you.
