(upbeat music) - El Chasqui Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to strengthen our Utah and Bolivian communities through service and culture.
Our guests today, Susy Lisi and Dixie Choque are here to tell us about the upcoming Utah Carnaval Boliviano.
Hello ladies, Thank you for being here, for bringing our set.
Thank you.
Susy, I'm gonna start with you.
Tell us about the founding of the Chasqui Foundation and what you do.
I know you've got a lot of service projects going.
- Yes, thank you so much for having us.
We are Chasqui Foundation that we do a lot humanitarian projects in Utah and in Bolivia.
The Chasqui start in Bolivia 25 years ago, and El Chasqui was the man who run the mail.
And we run everywhere doing service and showing our culture around everywhere in Utah and also in Bolivia.
- Okay, great.
And I'm gonna come to you now, Dixie.
So this upcoming carnival is big.
Tell us what's happening at that.
- It's this really great free, family-friendly event.
It takes place in the University mall in Orem.
And so it starts off with a beautiful... Like, very much like carnival in Bolivia, which takes place every year, where there's a parade of people participating, representing different costumes and departments from Bolivia.
So that's the first like grand entrance, takes place inside of the mall and then it goes outside of the mall where there are presentations of like dancers and music and like a missionary booth, a kids art booth, a service project booth, and then lots of food from Bolivia, which is really exciting.
- Yeah, that's always what people love, the food, huh?
And so you like helped people learn a lot about your country.
- Yes, this is a funny thing.
We start our project actually with friends and family friends and we were praying to have 150 people coming in the first year.
This is our four year.
And guess what?
We have almost 2,000 people showing up and we didn't have food in the first 15 minutes and stuff.
And so people actually coming and learning stuff about us.
- That's great.
Well, thank you for coming and bringing all of this.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you would like to know more about Carnival Bolivano from the El Chasqui Foundation, it's August 24th from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at University Place in Orem.
