(jaunty piano music) Yeah, we're in for a ride.
I'll try to get serious.
It doesn't happen often.
All right.
* My baby don't care for clothes * * My baby don't care for shows * My baby cares for me * My baby don't care for cars and races * * My baby don't care for high-tone places * * Liz Taylor is not her style * And even Lana Turner's smile * Is something she can't see * My baby don't care who knows, yeah * * My baby just cares for me I'll let you in on a secret, baby's my dog.
(audience laughing) She's cheaper than a man.
(Elnah laughing) I'll keep my baby.
(lively piano music) (audience cheering) * My baby don't care for clothes * * My baby don't care for shows * My baby cares for me * My baby don't care for cars and races * * My baby don't care for, he don't care for high-tone places * * Liz Taylor is not his style * And even Liberace's smile * Is something he can't see * My baby don't care who knows, yeah * * My baby just cares for * My baby just cares for * My baby just cares for me (audience applauding) Thank you for watching me totally fall apart piece by piece.
Oh, well.
This is the good thing about jazz shows.
This is about as formal as I get.
Shut up.
- You know that saying, if you don't have anything nice to say?
- Thank you, shut up.
(audience laughing) - However, I will say when I saw this song on the set list today, I was like, this is one of my favorite songs that you do, and I think you're the only vocalist that I've ever worked with that actually does this song.
I don't know where you found it or what, but this song for me is a killer.
This one's entitled, "Georgia Rose."
(gentle piano music) - Another oldie goldie.
I wanna sit, I wanna stand, I wanna lay down on this stage, I'm gonna take off my shoes.
Can I take off my shoes?
(audience cheering) Thank you, 'cause I never sing these suckers.
Ooh, I gotta feel the earth, you know?
That's the Indian in me.
I gotta feel the ground.
Thank you for not judging.
* Georgia rose * Georgia rose * You're the most precious rose, Dixie rose * * Though you don't seem quite right * * 'Cause your skin is dark as night * * And though you are hard for a love * * To the good Lord above * We all look the same * So don't hang your head in shame * * Georgia rose * Georgia rose * Don't be blue 'cause you're Black * * Georgia rose (audience applauding) We haven't done that in a while.
(lively piano music) (audience clapping rhythmically) * Every day, every day I have the blues * * Every day, every day I have the blues * * When you see me worried baby * 'Cause you I hate to lose * Nobody loves me * Nobody seems to care * Nobody loves me * Nobody seems to care * I talked about bad luck and trouble * * You know I had my share * I wanna pack my suitcase * I'm gonna move on down the line * * Hey, I'm gonna pack my suitcase * * And move on down the line * Where ain't nobody worrying * And there ain't nobody crying * * Well every day, every day I have the blues * * Every day, every day I have the blues * * Every day, every day, every day I have the blues * (lively piano music) - You'd think we had a whole band, huh?
* I'm gonna pack my suitcase * I'm gonna move on down the line, hey * * I'm gonna pack my suitcase * And move on down the line * Where there ain't nobody worrying * * And there ain't nobody crying * * Well every day, every day I have blues * * Every day, every day I have the blues * * Every day, every day, every day I have the blues * (audience applauding) I knew you were gonna do that.
We have played together so long That we think of the same songs at the same time.
It's scary.
- How do we do that?
- I don't know.
But somehow we're connected, buddy.
Sorry, Verlinde.
- It called the set list.
- Even when we don't have it.
We just flipped that sucker a minute ago.
So this is a story that your mother shoulda have told you.
Your grandmother shoulda told you.
Somebody shoulda told you, and if they didn't, I'm gonna tell you.
Yeah, I'ma tell ya.
* Women be wise * Keep your mouth shut * Don't advertise your man You heard me?
* Don't set around telling all your business * * Explaining what your good man can do * * You see, women these days * Darling, ain't no good * They laugh in your face, then try to steal man from you * * So woman be wise * Keep your mouth shut * Don't advertise your man You heard me?
* You see, your best girlfriend may be highbrow * * Changes clothes three times a day * Mm-hm, one of those.
* Now what day you think she's doing?
* I'm gonna tell you.
- What's she doing?
* While you're so far away You'd be surprised.
* She's sleeping with your man * In your own damn bed * You better call the doctor to examine your head * * Women be wise * Keep your mouth shut * Don't advertise your man You heard me, right?
Eric, tell 'em about it from a man's point of view.
He knows what he's talking about, too.
(jazzy piano music) (audience applauding) All right, Eric.
* I said women be wise * Keep your mouth shut * Don't advertise your man * Don't sit around telling all your business * * Explaining what your good man can do * * You tell me about your man * You tell me he's so fine * I might have to jump up and try to make him mine * * Women be wise * Keep your mouth shut * Don't advertise your man * Don't be a fool * Don't advertise your man (audience applauding) (gentle piano music) What's so nice about playing with Eric is I never know what's gonna happen, but it's always a surprise to us.
After 13 years it works.
* Fly me to the moon * And let me play among the stars * * Let me see what spring is like * * On Jupiter and Mars * In other words hold my hand * Well, in other words, * Oh baby, kiss me * Fill my heart with song * Let me sing forever more * You are all I long for * All I worship and adore * In other words, please, please be true * * In other words, I love you (gentle piano music) * Fly me to the moon * Let me play among the stars * Let me see what spring is like * * On Jupiter and Mars * In other words, hold my hand * Well, in other words, oh baby, kiss me * * Fill my heart with song * Let me sing forever more * You are all I long for * All I worship and adore * In other words, please be true * * In other words, in other words, * * In other words, I love you (audience applauding) Thank you!
