The Essex County Correctional Facility has come under fire following the brutal attack on an inmate last fall, which has prompted a review of operations at the jail. Recently obtained emails reveal that after the 22-year-old inmate was nearly beaten to death by fellow inmates, correctional facility and county officials initially praised the response by staffers to the incident.
