I'm Emily Kaplan Del from Morgantown, West Virginia.
You may know me as the host of Exploration Outer Space from my Netflix show, Emily's Wonder Lab, or on the internet at the Space Gal.
I'm an aerospace engineer, and I'm here to tell you that you two can have an exciting career in science, technology, engineering, and math right here in West Virginia.
It all takes education and training.
Also all available right here in our state.
So we're going to go meet some people who are going to tell us all about it.
Because remember, the future is you.
I'm Arria Hines, I'm the CEO of Allegheny Science and Technology.
Area.
Thank you so much for joining me here today.
Can you tell me a little bit about what you do today?
Absolutely, Emily.
We are an energy and technology consulting firm.
Our primary focus is in the energy sector, but we also do a lot of work in the defense and Intel sector, also, mainly in the technology realm.
And now today at AST.
What types of people are you looking for?
What types of jobs are you hoping to fill here?
It's a broad range.
I mean, we we can hir someone who comes out of college with a geology degree, but they don't really ever work in geology.
They work in the capacity of analyzing what is happening in the hydro world, you know, in the rock formations and things of that nature.
So it's it's really dynamic.
A lot of program managers, peopl high volume research and development projects.
Yeah So a whole range, whole range.
And it doesn't mean that you always have to have a four year degree.
I mean, we employ we actually have a lot of computer scientists that we employ.
A lot of those folks don't really have.
They don't always have a degree, but they've always had a passion for coding, you know.
So my advice is always don't ever think that you can't, you know, obtain it because you think, oh, it's too hard.
It's too difficult.
My best advice is do it one step at a time.
You know, you don't have to make straight A's.
You know that's that's not what's important.
It's what you learn an the passion you had to learn it.
You know, that's what's really important.
Know it has nothing to do with having to be perfect or understanding everything about calculus.
You don't have to understand everything about calculus.
You go to school, you pass the classes, and then you take your passion for whatever it is.
It's really one day at a time, one step at a time.
There you have it.
There is so much out there to get excited about.
So get started today.
Ask your school counselor about STEM education, including career technical education opportunities that are available through your school on the fields of science and technology.
Need you and I'm telling you, the rewards are out of this world.
I'm Calandrelli and until next time, remember the future is you.
