Dan: And the breakdowns continued on the road.

What if there's not a better-- Jerica: It'll be fine, we'll find something else.

Michael: Okay, keep talking.
You're not listening.
Josh: We're just gonna keep going and who's gonna say, "I'm done."
'Cause I'm outta here and throwing a fit or quit.
Dan: Ultimately, leading Team Blue to their first strike.
Team Blue, you were one hour and 10 minutes over your allotted time.
You have received your first strike.
[crying] Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing... [Jerica screaming] ...to win $50,000... Yeah, baby!
...and to find their family!

♪ ♪ Dan: It's Day 4 of Relative Race, and there have been some important developments during the past 12 hours.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Team Blue, Josh and Tiffany Lewis, are no longer able to compete in the race.
We wish them well and we've given them all the family information that they were looking for.
Including the information regarding Josh's father, who unfortunately, we discovered, passed away two years ago.
The three remaining teams have started their race without the knowledge that Team Blue is no longer competing.
Welcome to Day 4 of Relative Race.
♪ Paris: We are currently now the only team without a strike, and we plan to keep it that way.
Dan: As the sun rises over Day 4 of Relative Race, Team Green packs up in Birmingham, Alabama, hoping to dodge another strike.
And up in the northeast, Team Red prepares to depart from Waterford, Connecticut, where Michael says goodbye to his sister after another emotionally exhausting night.
Austen: Auntie, I don't want to go.
I don't want you to go, I want you to stay.
Michael: This is nothing that I've ever experienced in my life.
I mean, up and down and up and down.
And then you end on an up, so you start depleted and the race is a lot.
[laughing] Dan: Meanwhile, Team Black wakes up in Staunton, Virginia after a first-place victory last night.
Finishing in first place, Joe and Jerica, Team Black.
With their gameday prize, Team Black will be allowed to use five minutes of GPS sometime today.
However, a rough evening could have disastrous consequences for their race this morning.
Jerica: Joe?
Are you feeling any better?
Joe: Oh.
No.
Jerica: Um, so last night, Joe was up every hour of the night.
His stomach's really hurting him right now.
Um, at this point, we're not sure if we're gonna be able to compete today.
I told him it's no big deal if we need to take a day, I'm just not sure what's going on.
It's concerning for sure.
Joe: Okay.
Are you okay?
What's going on?
Joe: It's just been really hard to, like, get in a comfortable position to keep it from not stinging too bad.
Jerica: Do you need to go to the doctor right now?
I don't know.
Jerica: You don't know?
♪ Preshious: All right, text message from Dan... Now, more than ever, you know, we definitely have to, you know-- Step it up.
Step it up.
Michael: We are not holding anything back today.
Team Black is not going to beat us again.
It's on.
I'm still kind of back and forth, but I just took some Pepto-Bismol.
Jerica: Mm-hmm.
Joe: And it seemed to take the edge off.
"Team Green, you will be traveling "to Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
"Team Red will be traveling to Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts."
Jerica: Maybe take that nausea stuff too, if you feel like it, you need it.
Austen: Team Black will be traveling to Sherrills Ford, North Carolina.
Today's first place winner will have their relative navigate them tomorrow-- Austen: Or a Day 10 benefit.

[vibration] Joe: I'll try to get myself halfway together.

♪ Joe: We still have to look good today.

[giggles] As we were packing up the car, I realized that we missed a text from Dan.
And I have no idea how long ago that was.
So, his text said that we were going to North Carolina.
We're not gonna rush.
All right.
We're gonna take our time.
Okay.

I got this, go.

Today, I plan on taking it easy.
If I have to, I'll roll down the window, but we're thankful for the five minutes of GPS.
That's gonna be a huge lifesaver now.
Dan: All three remaining teams are racing along different paths in the eastern half of the United States.
Each looking for new relatives, each in a different city, all searching for the finish line in an undisclosed location.
At the start of the race three days ago in North Carolina, all of our teams surrendered their smartphones and all use of technology in exchange for paper maps and flip phones.
With no GPS or Internet access.
Now, they're headed to new cities.
When they arrive, they must take a selfie to prove that they've made it, successfully complete a common challenge, and find their relative.
Each in a different allotted time.
The team that goes over their allotted time the most will receive a strike.
Three strikes, and you're out of the race.
♪ Austen: You know?
Chugging that bottle of water right before we left was probably a mistake, but I'm hydrated.
Michael: Yes, and you're okay?
Yeah, I'll live.
I'll hold it.
Might not be able to sneeze.
[giggles] Dan: With the open road ahead of them, Team Red travels to Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.
Their allotted time, including the challenge, is two hours and 50 minutes.
Ocean Springs.
Ocean Springs sound like a apartment complex.
Dan: Team Green is heading to Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Their allotted time is four hours and 33 minutes.
Oh my word.
What?
I'm de-aging.
[giggles] Jerica: Why?
Joe: I suddenly don't have bags under my eyes.
It's probably because you're dehydrated.
Dan: And Team Black is fighting to find Sherrills Ford, North Carolina with an allotted time of four hours and 34 minutes.
♪ Dan: Now, our three remaining teams prepare to tackle the open road, and the way Team Red prepares is by gettin' groovy.
Austen: Daddy-o.

Dan: While Team Red quiets down on their way to Massachusetts, Team Green strategizes on their way to Mississippi.

'Cause we're crossing over into Mississippi.
No one goes into the welcome centers to find city maps, so maybe we should just stop right off the exit, grab one in case we need it later.
Yeah, we need to be in and out.
Quick, quick, in and out.
Like a robbery.
[in falsetto] Put city maps in the bag, right now!
This is a stickup!
Get the maps, put them in the bag.
We run inside and we go to the counter and ask her, do they have city maps?
And that would have like street names on it?
She actually brings up Ocean Springs, so I'm sort of like, that's exactly where we're going!

Preshious: It's kind of like we were thinking of Team Black and the fact that they have that GPS, this was like a perfect day to know exactly what street, since they have that.
Paris: Yeah, we just got to keep in mind that Team Black got that GPS today.
Black is our biggest threat because of the five minutes.
Dan: Meanwhile, Joe's stomach situation... Are you gonna get sick?
Dan: ...turns sour.
I don't know.
Do you want me to pull over?
[groans] Jerica: So Joe's not feeling well again.
We pulled over, we're trying to figure out if he wants to continue or if we need to stop.
Joe: [groaning] Joe, come on!
There is no openings in the restroom, so I just came out.
Hey, we're done.

♪ Ocean Springs Sports Complex.
Come on, red light!
We got selfies to take!

Preshious: We passed it, bae.

Austen: We take the exit and right away we start seeing signs.
Yarmouth Gateway.
Michael: Perfect.
Austen: We find a safe place and we take our selfie.

Preshious: You're saying Ocean Springs is at-- Ocean Springs, Corporate Limit.
Right here, okay, turn right.
The next sign that we see is... Preshious: Corporate limit.
Paris: ...a corporate limit sign.
Preshious: Over, over, over.

I have the longest arms ever, and so it's really easy for me to get the selfies.

[camera shutters] [phone dings] ♪ No.

Austen: Welcome to Yarmouth.
Your challenge is located at the Cape Cod Theatre Company Here we go.
We're gone.
Preshious: So we get back in the car, we're looking for the next sign, we happen to notice the one right there on the right.
Ocean Springs.
Wow.
Okay.
Pull over.
We literally were like 10 seconds from the first sign.
Right there.
Huh.
Yeah, that's better.
Your challenge is located at the Mary... C. O'Keefe Center.

We didn't lose that much time.
We have our address now and now we're ready to hit it.
♪ Jerica: We're just gonna wait and see what he says when he comes back, how he's feeling.

Joe: Maybe back to the car?
Jerica: Is that gonna be fine?

Joe: I guess.
We're gonna hang in there and we're gonna push through and it's still gonna be a great day.
[sighs] ♪ Michael: Right here.

Use your wit-- Preshious: To impersonate someone famous in various scenarios to your teammate.
Your allotted time for the day includes 10 minutes-- Austen: To complete this challenge.
[screams excitedly] This way.

Dan: Day 4' s challenge for all teams is "Impersonate Me."
♪ Dan: This will test our team's acting skills.
One member of the team is given a card listing a celebrity in a specific scenario who then uses props, wardrobe, and their acting skills to get the other teammate to correctly identify the celebrity and the scenario.
10 correct answers and the challenge is complete.
Michael: Do your thing, [indistinct].
Austen: I was so excited running in here, because the whole time in the car, all we do is impersonate people and make up random voices.
Michael: And play.
Blonde hair.
I am ze Terminator.
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Turbo man!
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
So Schwarzenegger is correct, but now I have to guess what Schwarzenegger is doing?

Drinking tea.

Dan: While Team Green struggles at their challenge, Team Black struggles with their selfie.

Pull over.
Jerica: As we're getting closer, Joe is starting to feel better.
You sound like you're feeling better.
Joe: I'm not gonna run and get like sick over it, but we should still go quickly.
Mm-hmm.
Joe: I feel like I have a pretty good handle on how I'm feeling and what my health situation is.
But we struggled a little bit with getting our selfie.
All right.
Joe: Come over here.
Jerica: Okay.
Joe: Towards me.
[camera shutters] Joe: Is it in?
Jerica: Just the "Sherrills," we gotta go this way.
Joe: Are you serious?
Okay, take it again.
[camera shutters] Jerica: No, you only got the "Branch Library!"
Joe: What?
Oh my goodness!

[camera shutters] Jerica: You've got to go a little higher with it.
Joe: Yeah.
Finally, I line it up and then Jerica holds the phone in place while I move around and get in and take the picture.
Jerica: There.
We got it.
Joe: Got it!
♪ [phone dings] Jerica: Your challenge is located at Lincoln Theatre.
Okay, let's go.
Joe: Lincoln Theatre?
That sounds cool.
This could be our challenge.
Jerica: Yeah.
Joe: Knock on wood.
It's probably something ridiculous.
Austen: [singing] I came in like a wrecking ball!
Michael: I got-- Austen: [barking] Michael: Barking like a, Miley Cyrus barking like a dog!
Austen: Yes!
Michael: Boo-yah!
And then we got on a roll!

Austen: Are you sure?

Pull over.
Jerica: Okay, okay.
Dan: ...finally makes it to the challenge, hoping to catch up.
Make sure it's clear.
I'm gonna come out your side.

Joe: Hurry!
So we pull up to the Lincoln Theatre and we run up the steps to find Impersonate Me.
That's the name of our game today.
Jerica: Don't get hung up on the props, Joe.

Joe: Okay.
We have to act out what's on the card, which has a famous person and an action that are totally unrelated.
Jerica: Is it a actor?
Okay, golfer.
You're a golfer.
You're a tea party, a golfer do-- Joe: [groans] I don't know who he is!
Jerica: It's okay!
Joe: It turns out we don't know who half of these people are, which is surprising, so we have to get creative for guessing these.
I don't even think I know who this person is, but he looks mean and he looks tough.

Jerica: And he's watching children.

That is creep-- [laughs] So, I got him to guess babysiting first, and then I was able to get him to guess Mr. T by giving him the opposite.

Joe: Mr. T babysitting.

Joe: [screams] Jerica: You got it!
Joe: Not being out in the hot sun, not running around for a change, it was really the perfect challenge for being sick.
Dan: Over on Cape Cod, Team Red's lead hits a bump in the road.
Austen: So we get our relative's address, and we just ask as many people as possible.
Michael: This dude right here.
Hey, partner!
We're trying to get to Yarmouth Port.
So we were asking a couple people and we were getting, one guy would say this way, another woman would say that way.
Ma'am?
Is this the way to Yarmouth Port?
Woman: Yes.
Austen: Thank-- Woman: But this way.
Austen: Yarmouth Port is that way?
Woman: Yes, yeah.

This is the way we want to go, this is what the guy said.
But she just said the other way-- Michael: I know, but I think I'm more confident in this way.
It is real easy with these tiny little streets to get turned around, and it's a maze.
Could be very confusing.

Dan: And back at the challenge, teams are still acting out.
♪ Paris: I'm an animal.
I hop around.
I have a long tongue.
Preshious: You're a frog.
Green frog is-- Paris: Yeah.

It seemed a little frustrating.
For every three or four we got wrong, we got one right.
Preshious: Flying!
I'm jumping out of... Preshious: An airplane.

What is that ca-- [ding] Paris: But we just kept with it.
We just stuck to it and some went, some didn't, but, you know.
For sure.
I guess that's a part of the challenge.
Joe: [singing "Elmo's World"] Jerica: You've got to get a prop!
Joe: [groans] Jerica: So one of the cards Joe was really good at was Elmo.
Joe: [singing "Elmo's World"] Jerica: Elmo!
[laughing] And I'm red and I have a orange nose, I'm orange-- Elmo.
I live with-- Yes!
Paris: Who came up with these cards?
They're totally ridiculous.
Ah, I'm gonna hit you really hard with my fist!

Preshious: Okay, here, take it!

[ding] Preshious: The challenge eventually came together and we started getting more and more correct.

[ding] Preshious: [sighs] We finished the challenge.
I still think it was ridiculous.
But we got it.

Joe: The hardest part about this challenge was having to use an accent or a different voice.

Austen: They have a local map, and they tell us exactly how to get to the street.
And then Eider is the next right.
Austen: Thank you so much!

Michael: It saved us who knows how much time.
Paris: We finish the challenge and we decide to look over the map in the car.
Preshious: We gotta go what we can go with.

Dan: After a long day and a difficult challenge, Team Green finds themselves with newfound family.
Preshious: It feels great to meet another relative, but to meet one on my dad's side for the first time feels even better.
Angela: Do you remember your dad at all?
Preshious: I remember that his name was Howard, and I just remember him being darker than my mom, but like, that's it.
I don't remember nothing else about him.
Angela: Okay.
Your father is my first cousin, and was the only one to have a girl just like I did.
Every other cousin had boys.

So we kept the two of you very close.
Preshious: It's a great feeling that someone was out there thinking about you when you thought no one was.

The family effort, like I said, was pretty fierce.
Well, it felt very good to be able to explain to Preshious what happened.
When the family started to go through some issues, we learned that you were in the system, you know, with the county.
And I contacted the representative that worked with your case, and there were some requirements that needed to be met on my behalf, or anyone's behalf, in the family that was going to adopt you.
Preshious: She really wanted to get me.
She tried so hard.
My dad tried.
People, they didn't forget.
So I went out, I got you two bunkbeds, and you had your own bathroom.
I had clothes already ready for you.
And the last step to me getting approved was that I needed to have my home inspected.
And the way that the apartment was set up, there was no fire escape for the second bedroom.

Champayne: We found out Preshious's birthday was yesterday, and so we wanted to treat her to celebrate her birthday and being able to find our family again.

Preshious: And then she tells me that we're gonna go birthday shopping, so I'm happy.

Day 4 is quickly coming to a close, and I want to address, right out of the gate, it's obvious that we're missing one of our teams.
♪ Team Blue wasn't even on the screen.
They weren't there!
Dan: Unfortuantely, due to unforeseen circumstances, Josh and Tiffany are no longer able to be a part of the race.
Austen: I'm in shock.
A team is out this early?
I don't even know what to make of this.
Dan: However, it's also important for you to know that we have already given them all of the information that we discovered regarding their families, including vital information regarding Josh's father.
We wish them only the best, and we hope that they'll reach out to that family.
We really hope the best for Team Blue.
But I'm wondering how this is gonna affect the race.
The consequences of Team Blue's departure is going to change this race for each of you.
I'll explain how that's going to work in a few moments.
But first, Team Black.
Joe.
Today, you really struggled with your health.
How are you doing?
Joe: All night I was wondering myself, am I going to be able to compete tomorrow?
Jerica: And this morning, it was really bad, and I was really concerned.
We believe it's another flare up with his Crohn's disease, and I told him we wre gonna seek medical care if he needed it, but Joe really stuck through it.
Austen: Hearing Joe was sick today, my heart just went out to them, and then my mommy instinct kicked in and I just wanted to go take of them.
Dan: Well, Joe, it sounds like you were able to push through it and battle throughout the day.
But did it pay off?
Who did you meet today?
Jerica: These are some of our relatives.
Marti and Shannon: Hey!

Joe: We've just been having the best time with them.
We've been laughing together, we've even scooped up some alpaca poop.

Yesterday, you guys had what I would describe as a really heavy, emotional day.
Processing difficult things that you discovered regarding family, especially you, Michael.

Dan: So why was today so special for you, Austen?
Well, on this race, we've met my relatives and Dad's relatives, but today, I met my cousin, and I'm related to her on my mom's side.
And our grandparents were siblings.
So we're pretty tight and we have a lot in common and we've been having a really great time today.

Dan: I just need to point out, she is representing Team Red!

Austen: Yeah!

Today when you met your relative, did you receive somehow more peace in a way?
Preshious: Doing this show, I was so concerned about meeting my mom and receiving the news that I won't be able to meet her was hard.
So it was nice to meet someone on my dad's side of the family.
And the big question was if he's still alive, and he is.
He's alive, and I found out that he was looking for me.
Like, just a lot of stories of people looking for me.
I didn't have that.
I'm just, I'm so happy to get more, just every bit of information means the world to me.
So, Preshious, I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.
This cousin that you just met today actually tried to adopt you when you were a baby?
Preshious: Yes.
She has been looking for me.
They do this annual search every year, and they type in my name and try to find me, and they had a place set up for me and a bed and everything.
Like clothes, like everything to really get me.
And it's great to hear that and that they didn't stop.
They still were looking.
They've been looking.
Like, it continued.

Austen: We really wanted to get first today, so coming in second, we're just kind of like, meh.
Dan: Team Black, Joe and Jerica, you finished 32 minutes over your allotted time.
However, because Team Blue was unable to compete, they are given today's strike, which means you're safe for another day.
Joe: What?
Finding out that we didn't receive a strike tonight after learning that Team Blue had gone home was really exciting.
I mean, we were totally expecting to get our second strike.
Dan: One final note, teams.
Because Team Blue is unable to continue, we will not be handing out a strike tomorrow either.
However, there's still plenty on the line.
You still have a game day benefit or a Day 10 benefit to compete for, and tomorrow, as an additional benefit, you'll also be competing for two roundtrip airfare tickets to visit any of the relatives that you've met along the way.
