It's not me who keeps letting you down.
Remember that.
[birds chirping] [solemn music] [approaching footsteps] Well, Granny's only gone and signed me up to the posh private school and says I have to start next term.
- What?
- Granny's trying to turn me into a version of Mum that doesn't even exist.
- Um... - You're right.
She's trying to take over.
Not on my watch, love.
[Kim sniffs] [Kim sighs] Hey, it was just the one.
Fuck you, Dad.
- Kim.
- Stay away from me!
Kim.
Kim!
- Kim, I'm sorry.
- Leave me alone.
Just-- Please, would you just come back and-- and we can talk.
Not when you're pissed, we can't.
Why did you have to prove Granny right?
[Kim huffs] [phone buzzing] [sighs] Kara, uh, it's not a good time.
Wha-- [intriguing music] [seabirds squawking] Cate only had two contacts in her phone: Ellie Robson and someone called Fred.
Now, Ellie's phone is Ellie's phone.
But Cate's and Fred's were pay-as-you-go, so untraceable.
And it looks like she deleted the messages about once a week.
So they don't go back very far... but what she says is really interesting.
Um... "Margaret hates me.
"Watching and listening, pretending to be on my side."
Right, and this is to the, um, Fred guy-stroke-woman?
- Heart emoji as a reply.
- Right.
Um, "The more I dream about breaking free, "the more she keeps tabs on me."
What, then... Fred says "You can do this."
- How many of these are there?
- Loads.
And this is just one week.
Almost all of them about Margaret.
"Margaret told me today "how lucky I was to be welcomed into the family, "that I was adopted like Lily, a stray."
Look at this, a few days later.
"Just had a big argument with Margaret.
"She said Julian would be better off without me, "then she said they'd all be better off without me.
"I can't breathe, Fred."
KARA: And this, the night she was killed.
BERGERAC: "They've all gone.
Tonight's the night.
"Arthur needs to be exposed.
"I just need the documents and then I go."
And then, "I couldn't resist saying something "to Margaret, though, which was probably silly.
"Funny, though."
A cry-laughing emoji from Fred, then Cate says, "Thank you, I couldn't have done this without you."
Fred replies, "You did this all yourself.
"What a joy it's been to know you.
Safe travels."
Cate was clearly terrified of Margaret.
What you said in her interview, I think you were right.
She comes back to the annex, she talks to Cate.
Cate tells her what she's planning to do.
And Margaret kills her.
[phone buzzing] Um... Uh, sorry, I need to take this.
Charlie, look, I need to talk to Kim.
I thought she was with you.
She ran away, hasn't gone to her violin clas.
- Okay.
- Her friends haven't seen her.
And now she's not answering her phone.
Um... Look, I'm gonna send you an address.
Uh, meet me there.
I need to go.
Let me give you a lift.
You don't need to be breathalyzed on top of everything else.
[low, ominous music] I'd say she left mine just after half past four.
I'm half an hour away on foot.
CHARLIE: How long was she with you?
About a minute.
Um, okay, find the nearest footage to my house.
There.
There she is, there.
BERGERAC: Uh, can you... Where's she going?
Uh, what have you got on King Street?
Try Tommassi's.
There.
Is that her?
What has she got?
She's got flowers.
She didn't have those before.
She's going to the graveyard.
KIM: I told Champagne Charlie to do one with St.
Bitchadette's School, Mum.
I know you were bullied there but were too nice to tell her.
I don't even know who knows you anymore.
I miss you.
I just wanna hug you, hold on to you.
[kisses] [seabirds squawking] Where is she?
Where is she?
She was here, she was... She was here.
We saw her-- we saw her just-- just a minute ago.
Wait here.
[Charlie sobs] Hey.
We'll find her.
[sobs] Oh, my God.
BERGERAC: Hey.
Hey.
[kisses] Miss you.
Every day.
Kim left with a man.
Average height, fair hair, tight jumper.
He had his arm around her.
What?
Who?
Who could it be?
[ominous music] [door slams] [lock clicking] [approaching footsteps] ♪♪♪ JOHN: Vengeance is mine.
I will repay.
