Dan: ...and the importance of his adoptive family.
- I am eternally indebted to my parents that raised me.
Dan: The musical bloodline in Kacey's family struck a familiar chord with her aunt Jennifer.
[singing] Dan: The twins learned that their biological family never forgot them.
- We knew that you guys were out here, and it's, like, but, we never had, we never had the money to do that, like, find you guys.
Joseph: It's incredibly moving to hear that.
I didn't know that y'all knew about us.
Dan: And Monika met the woman who changed her life from the very beginning.
- I totally picked your mom and dad alone.
Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing... Sean: Come on!
Liz: Let's go, let's go!
- [yell] Dan: ...to win $50,000... - Yes!
Dan: ...and to find their family.
[knocking] ♪ Dan: It's day five of Relative Race, the halfway point of the journey, and our teams are spread out all across the eastern half of the country, with Teams Red and Black in Ohio, Team Green in Iowa, and Team Blue in Florida.
All four teams are still racing to discover new family... - [sobbing] Dan: ...and compete for a chance to win the $50,000 grand prize.
Joseph: Yesterday, we won first place, and the first place prize was to find out that we're headed to Kissimmee, Florida, and we get to map it out before the text from Dan.
Aleya: See, that, yeah, that line, it goes straight into Kissimmee, so this, this dot right there is Kissimmee.
♪ Marge: I have a project for you this morning.
This is a tradition at our house that started many years ago.
Monika: We walk into the kichen this morning, and Marge has all these cookies laid out, and she tells us it's been a family tradition to actually bake these cookies and frost them with her foster kids, so of course Magen and I gave it a little Relative Race touch to get us pumped up for the day.
- Hashtag win, I like where your head's at today.
[laughs] Monika: Hashtag win.
[laughs] ♪ Devin: Ready to go.
[laughter] Liz: I know.
We need to, like, hit total reset and like... Devin: Yeah.
Liz: You know, today's... Devin: Definitely.
Liz: Today's the day.
Strikes are all tied up; it's an even playing field.
- Yeah, but we really gotta step our game up and get into this race.
♪ - Last night, I was clearly miffed that we lost only by a minute.
Dan: Team Black, you picked up your first strike of Relative Race.
Kacey: I'm mad at Team Green right now.
They're not my friend.
So, this morning, I was like, oh no, this isn't gonna happen anymore.
I'm ready to put my game face on, so this is my game face.
You know, intimidation, goin' after them, we're just gon-- [makes hitting noise] Nail 'em to the wall.
♪ Dan: In Cocoa, Florida, Joe and Anthony's cousin, Aleya, has something very important to share with the twins.
Aleya: So, this was my mother's old phone, and, um, there's like, a whole bunch of videos and pictures in here of her.
When my mom passed, it was so abruptly, like, you could never, even though we knew it was gonna happen, you could never plan for it, so like, those videos and pictures that we wish we woulda had already out and, you know, able to see, it, we wasn't.
I don't really have videos of my mother, and being able to hear her voice again would just be amazing.
It would overwhelm me to the point where, like, I'd probably cry again.
And, but happy tears, like, to be able to hear her voice again, it'd be amazing.
[emotionally] For sure.
100 percent.
- So, um, I think Joe would feel the same about this, but, we... we don't have much, but, we'll, uh, help you fix that.
- Seriously?
Anthony: So you can look at that.
- That's amazing.
That's, that's just, thank you.
Anthony: We're gonna try to find a place that we can fix Aleya's phone so that she can see videos and photos of her mom, our aunt.
Joseph: We decided we're going to find a phone repair store nearby.
♪ Dan: In Lancaster, Ohio, Kacey's aunt Jen has a very special invitation.
Jen: So I am really, really glad that we got this chance to meet and spend some time together and get to know about your life.
Kacey: Yeah.
Jen: And I'm so happy to have you as part of our family.
I wanna continue our journey after this, and I'd like for you guys to get to be part of our lives, and we wanna be a parta yours, and, as I told you, we're getting married soon, and so I would like to invite you guys to our wedding.
Sean: Really?
Jen: Yes, so... Kacey: Oh my gosh, can I open it?
Jen: Yes.
You guys are amazing people, and... and I'm so glad that you're part of our family and we get to... learn more about each other and everything, so... Sean: Oh, wow.
Kacey: This is beautiful.
You look so pretty in these pictures, and... Jen: Thank you!
Kacey: That's really soon!
Jen: Yes.
Kacey: Like, really soon!
Jen: Yeah, so... Kacey: I'm so glad that you invited us and we can be a part of that.
Jen: Right.
Kacey: I'm so happy.
Jen: I would love for you guys to be there because you'll get to meet most, you know, pretty much everybody that wasn't gonna be on the trip and, you know, in the show, should be there, so... Kacey: Oh my goodness.
- Yes, so you'll have something to look forward to at the end of all of this-- Kacey: Yeah.
Jen: --this, uh, journey, so... Kacey: I love you.
Jen: I can't wait to see you again.

Kacey: Absolutely I'm gonna go to her wedding.
Oh my goodness, I cannot wait.
There's gonna be dancing there and singing.
- Yeah.
Kacey: So... What other way to have a good time, right?
Jen: All right, well.
Have a safe journey back, and, um... you take care of that Green Team today, okay?
Sean: Oh, yes.
Kacey: They are goin' down.
[laughter] Sean: Oh yeah.
♪ [clock ticking] Kacey: Good morning, teams... Devin: ...and welcome to day five... Joseph: ...of Relative Race.
- Team Red will be traveling to Morgantown, West Virginia.
- Team Blue will be traveling to Kissimmee, Florida.
- Yes!
Kacey: Team Black will be traveling to Granville, Ohio.
Magen: And Team Green will be traveling to Des Moines, Iowa.
♪ Joseph: Today's first place-- Magen: Prize is five minutes of GPS... Kacey: And you may not write down the directions.
Devin: Your time starts now.
Both: Okay!
Sean: We gotta go!
[jumbled farewells] Bye, be safe!
Magen: Marge, thank you so much!
Marge: Grab a cookie and out the door!

We're headed to... Monika: Des Moines, Iowa!
I was actually born in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kacey: Team Green, we're comin' after you.
Sean: You have been blacklisted.
♪ Anthony: On the way to Kissimmee, Florida!
Yay!
Directions, directions were already given in the mornin', man.
Joseph: Ain't nothin' like family.
- Yep, ain't nothin' like family.
Ain't that good, man.
- Thank goodness we got some directions today, 'cause we're gonna try and find a phone repair store.
Dan: With their turn by turn directions in hand, today, Team Blue, Joe and Anthony, are racing from Cocoa, Florida, to Kissimmee, Florida.
Their allotted time, including the challenge, is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
♪ [snoring] Devin: ♪ Home ♪ Liz: [joining in] ♪ Peace you give me ♪ [dance music] [record scratch] Both: ♪ [indistinct] ♪ - We together are off, but that is the note.
Dan: Singing with the tunes but kind of out of tune is Team Red.
Today, Devin and Elizabeth are leaving Cincinnati, Ohio, and are headed to Morgantown, West Virginia.
They have the longest allotted time of the day at 5 hours and 6 minutes.
Magen: I think that Black Team's probably a lot of fun.
I think they're a good time, you know what I mean, I think they enjoy each other's company, I think that they, they keep it lighthearted.
- Yesterday, we gave a challenge penalty to Team Black, and apparently, it was a big deal.
I hope we haven't poked the bear too hard.
Dan: Worried that they may have a target on their back, Team Green, Monika and Magen, are traveling from Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Des Moines.
With today's challenge factored in, they have an allotted time of 2 hours and 4 minutes.
Magen: I hope we get to meet them, I know we'll get to see them on day 10 'cause we're goin' to day 10.
Monika: 'Cause we're going there.
Magen: Yeah, factual.
Um, but I can't wait to meet some of them, and, and put... put my, my arms around 'em, hug their necks.
♪ [Dies Irae by Verdi plays] - I am not playing around today.
The warm and fuzzies are done.
Dan: Geared up and ready to win today is Team Black.
Sean and Kacey will depart Lancaster, Ohio and race to Granville, Ohio.
They have the shortest allotted time of 1 hour and 31 minutes.
[phone notification] Kacey: Who's texting us?
Sean: A text message.
Ha!
It's from Team Green.
- Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
Well, do you wanna shoot a barb or not?
I wanna keep 'em nervous.
I wanna keep them on their toes.
They think they took us out, but what they don't understand is that we, we're fighters.
Sean: So Kacey really wanted to go, just like, all out, you know, just burn everything to the ground, redhead style, but instead, I chose and suggested we do a little bit more of a tactful approach, and just kinda not even play into it, not even let them know that we're, you know, frustrated with what happened.
Just be like, "Nope."
We're just not gonna talk to you, it's okay, you just keep doin' your thing, we're gonna keep doin' our thing, and the second we get ourselves a hammer, we are droppin' it.
- Just kinda let it be a slow burn until it's like, okay, you know, they're comfortable, they're comfortable.
Hammer!
Done.
♪ [upbeat music] Anthony: So we're about halfway to Kissimmee, and finally we find a phone repair store.
♪ Joseph: We know we're on the clock, but we have to get this fixed for our cousin Aleya.
Anthony: Yeah, it's really, really important.
Okay awesome, thank you.
So we dropped the phone off at the store, gave them Aleya's number, and we are on our way.
And I really hope that they were able to fix that for her.
♪ Dan: Five days into their journey, and all of our teams are once again on the open road, but for Teams Red and Green, their phones are ringing.
[phones ringing] Liz: Hello?
Monika: Hello?
Magen: Hi, who's this?
- Heyyyyy!
I'm good, how are you?
Both: Addie!
Monika: Being adopted, I haven't ever had siblings before, and it was pretty neat being in the car today and getting a call from my big sister Katie and my niece, Addie.
It was really awesome, and it felt like they were really looking out for us.
Monika: Aw!
[laughter] That's a lotta pressure now.
Magen: Addie, we're gonna do this for you.
Monika: We're gonna do it!
- It is so nice to hear your voice!
I was just telling Devin, I was like, um, I know it's only been like, a day, but I'm like, already starting to miss my sister!
To get a call from my sister Angelica, who I got to meet on day three, was a very much needed boost, and has me that much more excited to potentially meet the other two siblings I have.
Devin: Absolutely, always, always.
Liz: All right, love you sis, talk soon.
Magen: We love you guys.
- Love you!
Talk to you guys!
Katie: Love you, bye!
Both: Bye!
[laughter] [phone beeps] Monika: Aww.
- What a fun way to kick off our day.
♪ - Selfie, selfie, selfie.
C'mon, Joe, let's, let's, let's, let's try to find a Kissimmee sign and make this happen.
Monika: Oh, look, look, look, right side!
Magen: Yep.
♪ Kacey: Granville, right here.
Granville market!
- There we are, okay.
♪ Liz: There it is, there it is.
- Boom!
Liz: Nicely done.
Magen: Stop, there, turn!
- Where?
Magen: Turn here!
Monika: Where?
Magen: This body shop, this body shop!
Body shop!
Monika: Turn right?
Sean: Okay, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
[engine rumbling] [tires squeak] - Go, go, go, go!
- Got it?
[phone dings] ♪ Monika: 'Kay, let's go!
Joseph: Okay, let's go!
Yep.
[intense music] Liz: Let the games begin.
- I think we're gettin' close, I think we're gettin' close.
Anthony: Man, just... the mornin's startin' out great, Joe.
Magen: Yes, turn!
Monika: Are you sure?
Magen: Yes, turn!
I get super anxious and kind of withdraw right before a challenge.
I'm just so nervous.
Devin: There it is, there's the flag, there's the flag!
Sean: All right!
Magen: 'Kay, let's go!
♪ Liz: Don't get mad... Kacey: Get even!
♪ Dan: Day five's challenge is...
Teams must balance 12 items on a balance beam without any of them falling off for at least 5 seconds.
Each player has their own items, but they can be shared.
However, players must always remain on their side of the beam.
If any items fall, teams must reset and try again.
The allotted time for Don't Get Mad... Get Even is 15 minutes.
[guitar music] Kacey: 'Kay.
Take this side.
Sean: Okay!
Anthony: Let's get ready!
Let's just try things, okay?
Joseph: Okay.
[items thudding] Devin: In the red bin, put that water bottle, put the paper towel, and put the rubber ball.
- Squeeze the two ends and put it in between these two.
Joseph: We look at the sled, and we're thinking, that would be perfect to balance items on top of.
Anthony: If we can make sure that it doesn't touch the base.
Okay, that's good.
It's not touching.
Devin: I just need something heavier, so Imma put the boot.
- A little bit faster, please?
Devin: This is not about speed, this is about skill.
- A little bit about speed.
[intense guitar music] - So put something else in your basket.
What do you want from me?
Monika: No, I need something on your side.
Magen: Mine?
Mine's heavier.
Monika: Put the ball in the very top of your... Magen: Okay.
At one point, Monika says that her side's heavier, but my side is sinking.
- That means mine's heavier, it was going down.
Magen: If there's a fat person and a skinny person on a seesaw, the fat person's goin' down.
Monika: Look.
Magen: That looks, yeah.
Monika: No, yours is going down!
Magen: The fat person sinking!
Monika: Oh, gosh.
I'm a-losin' it.
Sean: Oh!
Kacey: Yeah.
Sean: We kinda forgot that we were allowed to brace it, and so the first couple times we went away for something, we both just let it go, and it was like, ow, gosh, it all fell on the floor.
But then after that we remembered, oh, one of us would brace, so we started takin' turns, you know, I'd hold it so she could get an item, or vice versa.
Okay.
Kacey: Cheese and crackers, okay.
Sean: Reset it, reset it, reset it, reset it.
Kacey: Reset, reset, reset.
Sean: That was like, almost there, that was almost there.
♪ Devin: Yeah, ju-just that.
Now too heavy.
Take, okay, no, no, no.
I'm not quite sure what Liz was doing, but I'm pretty sure you dropped your stuff like, six times.
[items clattering] Devin: Before you-- [items thud] Liz: Go ahead.
This.
[items clatter] Devin: No, babe, it's not balanced!
Keep the-- [items thud] - This challenge was a lot harder than we thought it was gonna be.
Anthony: Let it go.
Perfect!
Ah, no, it's, this one's too heavy.
Put this over there.
Put this on top of the teddy bear.
Monika: No, no, no.
It's not gonna do it.
- This is like, turning in here, you have gotta have a little more faith, okay?
- It's all gonna fall, Magen.
♪ [items clatter] Kacey: We're not finding the right balance.
- So we were gettin' to the end of it, and we had it, like, almost balanced, but we kept on every time we would put just one little item on there, it started tilting things over to the edge.
♪ So I started thinking, well wait a minute, let's just start tearing it apart and using little pieces, little crumpled up pieces of paper towel to be the final balancers, so we just started shredding that thing and just putting little pieces on either side.
♪ [countdown beeps] [bell dings] Kacey: Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
[yells] Okay!
Sean: Boom!
We got it.
Perfectly balanced.
Liz: Count it.
[countdown beeping] [bell rings] Joseph: Yes!
Liz: [sighs] Devin: Good work.
Anthony: Good, thanks.
Joseph: Good job.
Anthony: Okay, let's go here.
Okay, let's see what this says.
[coundown beeping] [bell rings] Monika: We literally got that thing to stay balanced for five seconds exactly!
Liz: All right, so our relative lives at... - 194 Fontay Avenue.
- Your relative lives at 1306 North Seventh Street!
♪ Monika: [yelps] [engine rumbling] Sean: Go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
Kacey: Woo, baby!
[clock ticking] Sean: Okay, let's go, turn right, turn right, turn right!
Dan: All teams have completed today's challenge and now must find their relative's address quickly.
Liz: As we were pulling out, Devin actually happened to notice two locals.
- We can ask them!
Come on, come on, come on, let's go.
'Scuse me, 'scuse me?
Are you guys from here?
Woman 1: Yes.
Liz: By the grace of God, they happened to know our relative's address.
Devin: Can we follow you?
- Yeah.
Devin: Where are you guys parked?
Liz: Can we go?
Devin: Okay, where is it?
Thanks so much.
Liz: I can't believe that worked!
They're actually gonna lead us right to the house.
♪ Kacey: 'Kay, do we need to ask, why don't we ask these people?
Sean: Yeah, go ahead and ask 'em real quick.
- Hi.
Hi.
Can I. Oh, never mind, okay.
Sean: Yeah, you gotta turn.
Kacey: Say booger, instead.
Like Team Green, they're boogers.
Sean: Newark [indistinct].
♪ Magen: .34.
We're getting smaller.
I need you to know if it jumps a little bit not to panic.
Monika: It's okay.
Magen: We have to turn... Monika: I know, I know!
Magen: The wilderness GPS kept us on track until there was a turnoff on Highway 69 that we missed.
It's getting bigger.
When you go up here, take a left, okay?
- What's the GPS say?
Joseph: It's not gonna tell us anything.
Anthony: I know, but what does it say which direction we're going in?
Joseph: I'm the navigator, but Anthony won't trust me with the GPS.
We're going in the right direction, trust me.
Anthony: What does it say?!
Joseph: See?
We're going in the right direction.
- I just wanna check and make sure that we're still on track.
Sean: Currently, GPS says we are directly below the location.
Devin: Thank you again.
Liz: It's, I think it's not this way, I feel like we're losing... Devin: Was that it?
Liz: Yeah, see if... Devin: I couldn't see.
Liz: The locals are leading us to the house, but then the GPS starts telling us to turn slightly, and I wasn't sure which way to go, but, based on my history with the GPS, I decided to go with the locals instead.
♪ Anthony: Okay, 710, that's good.
720, why are they going up?!
What do you mean?
Joseph: Ant, we have to go back.
Anthony: Joe, where are we going?
Joseph: Look, Anthony!
We have to go back.
We're literally right there.
- Where are we going, Joe?
Joseph: We have to...
The GPS is pointed at a completely different direction now, and I'm trying to tell Anthony we need to go back.
- Ohhh, my gosh!
This is not happening right now!
♪ - I'm thinking that I'm probably either gonna meet Sherry, who is my, my other aunt... Sean: Or we might be going to find you another... Kacey: Sibling.
Sean: ...another sibling?
Or maybe not, your mom's still out there, who knows?
Maybe we're just meetin' your mom today, who knows?
Kacey: Ehh.
Seeing my family come together these last four days has been amazing and life-changing, but to know that there are more people to meet, and every day, there's a new person on the other side of that door, that is the most amazing feeling in the whole world.
Sean: Okay, we're good.
Let's go, let's go!
♪ Kacey: Hi!
- Hi, how are you?
- Good, I'm Kacey, and this is my husband, Sean.
Man 1: I'm Mitchell.
Kacey: Hi, Mitch!
Who are you related to?
Mitchell: Uh, Kacey, I'm actually your brother, so.
- Really?
- No!
Are you serious?
Mitchell: I sure am.
Kacey: [laughing] Oh my goodness!
Kacey: This is not what I was expecting.
[exhales] Hi!
Mitchell: Hi.
- I like your beard.
Mitchell: It's nice to meet you.
Thanks!
[laughter] Mitchell: I am Mitchell Miller.
I live in St. Louisville, Ohio.
I'm Kacey's brother, and we have the same father.
I like your warrior paint.
Sean: [laughs] Kacey: Yes, yes, this is my, my war cry today.
[laughter] So... - So, uh, I actually have my whole family in here I'd like to introduce you to.
Kacey: Okay!
Sean: All righty.
Kacey: Awesome!
Sean: Sounds good.
Mitchell: Bring everybody out.
Kacey: Hello!
Mitchell: This is Carter, this is Luke, this is James and Avery, and my wife Amanda.
Amanda: Hi.
Kacey: Hi, nice to meet you!
Amanda: Nice to meet you!
- This is the first day that I am being surrounded by a big family, and it's really cool.
Um, it kinda reminds me of our family a little bit, uh, you know, kids running around, hugging me, wanting to play and be silly, um, so it was really special.
And, actually, um...
I met a brother that you don't know about.
Mitchell: 'Kay.
Kacey: Um, his name's Shawl.
He's 26, and he knows nothing about our side of the family, so I'm kind of that connecting point, and, so... Mitchell: That's crazy!
Kacey: So you have a sister and a brother!
[laughter] Mitchell: That's awesome!
Kacey: So yeah, that was, I was not expecting this today.
Mitchell: You'll have to introduce me to him at some point.
Kacey: Absolutely, yeah.
Sean: We will, for sure.
Mitchell: Kacey is, seems like a wonderful person, you know, and I don't know Shawl, that's a whole nother chapter, whole nother door that, of u-unknown questions, you know.
I mean, it means somethin' to me, you know, to, to have somebody, you know, like a brother or a sister that I didn't know that was, you know, closely related.
- Going from, you know, just a few days ago, not knowing anything about my family, to actually finding out I have a ton of siblings, and getting to meet two of them in like, the last, like, five days?
My mind has been blown.
Mitchell: Me and the kids would love to take you guys out for ice cream.
Uh, I know they would love to go if you guys are up for it.
Sean: Absolutely.
Kacey: Yeah, absolutely, um, but can I take my war paint off first so I don't scare people?
Mitchell: Absolutely.
You can come on in, yeah.
[laughter] Kacey: Awesome.
♪ Liz: Go, baby, keep up with her now, keep up with her now, she's gonna go!
Thank goodness for our local escort because this is, like, the backwoods of West Virginia, and there's, there's no way we would've found this house without them.

- My name's Jerome Willis, I'm from West Virginia, and I'm Elizabeth's brother.

Devin: Yeah.

Liz: Yeah.
JJ: You guys look like twins.
- Yeah, that, yes!

And, we're both Geminis, so we were all, like... - All three of us are.
Liz: [excited squeal] When's your birthday?
JJ: May 22nd.
- YEAH!
I'm May 26!

So two siblings down, one more to go, my brother JJ looks exactly like the pictures my birth dad Jerome showed me, and I cannot, I can't wait to get to know him better.

Monika: This?

♪ Monika: As we're pulling in, I see this beautiful young lady waving to us, and I think I might know who this is.
She looks just like me.
I'm already crying.

- I am Krystal, and I'm, I'm so happy to meet you.
[crying] Krystal: My name is Krystal Dalton, and Monika is my sister.
♪ [laughter] Monika: You're so cute!
Krystal: When Monika got out of the car, she was already crying, and it just really hit home that this is it, this is the moment, this is what you've been wanting for the last 20 years, and it's finally here.
You finally getta complete the family, make... meet your sister.
Magen: Hi, I'm Magen, it's nice to meet you!
Monika: Oh.
Krystal: Oh my goodness!
Monika: Thanks for doing it.
I know this is, like, a crazy way.
- I'm doin' it for you.
I'm doin' it for you.
I wouldn't have done it otherwise.
I've looked for you for... Monika: Forever?
- Forever.
[sigh] Monika: Before this journey, I didn't know that my family really even knew about me or looked for me or cared that I was out there, and the fact that she told me that from a very young age, they were thinking about me meant the world to me.
- I'm lucky to even be here.
Monika: Okay.
Krystal: And I'm so happy that I get to meet you because I had a major scare in 2016.
I had a tumor that they thought was cancer and they gave me, like, a 30% chance to make it off the operating table.
Ended up benign, ended up non-cancerous, so I'm glad I'm here to meet you.
- Yay!
Oh my gosh!
- Very glad.
I, I've looked for you forever.
I bought Mom a Mother's Day ring when I was 12 years old, and your birthstone is in it.
Monika: That's so nice.
I didn't even know you guys, like, thought about me or anything.
Krystal: Oh, yeah we did.
[laughter] Yes, this has been a dream.
A dream.
- [shuddering inhale] That's awesome.
Hearing from my sister, Krystal, that I was wanted and she thought about me and dreamed about me and even made a ring with my birthstone in it, and never really forgot about me, it's the exact reason why I came on this race.
♪ Anthony: 195, 194, right here.
Joseph: All righty.
Anthony: Oh, wow.
♪ Anthony: Hi.
Joseph: Walking up the driveway, I couldn't speak, I couldn't open my mouth.
I froze.
Anthony: My name is Anthony, and... Joseph: I'm Joseph.
- Hi Joseph, I'm Joyce McClellan.
Anthony: And, uh... Joseph: How are you related to us?
- I'm your aunt.
I'm your mother's sister.
Bring it in, guys.
♪ Joyce: Oh my gosh!
Wow, um, so is one of you, are one of you taller?
Anthony: Yeah.
Well, come here Joseph, so she can see.
- Wow, I honestly thought it was gonna be the other way around.
- It was so good, and... wonderful to just look my own aunt in the face and just see her, and, I just, I want, I've been wanting to know my aunt for so long, and I just really was excited more than anything to see her.
I loved it, every bit of it.
Oh my goodness, you're so beautiful.
Joseph: Yeah.
- You guys are so handsome!
Anthony: Thank you.
- I can't believe this.
♪ - You nervous?
- Yes.
Anthony: Please don't be nervous.
Joyce: Oh my gosh, I'm never gonna lose you guys again.
Anthony: No, and that won't happen.
We're here.
Joseph: We're not goin' anywhere.
Anthony: We're not goin' nowhere.
Joyce: I'm ready to move you guys in with us!
You guys ready to move to Florida?
Joseph: You serious?
- Come on, you guys can live where everybody else vacations!
Anthony: [laughs] Right, it's beautiful here!
- [sighs] Okay, so we have a lot, um, planned for you guys.
You guys wanna come inside?
Anthony: Yeah.
- Get somethin' to drink.
Anthony: Okay.
♪ - Hey, how's it goin'?
Jim.
Anthony: Anthony, nice to meet you.
Joseph: I'm Joseph.
Jim: Joseph, Jim.
Nice to meet you guys.
Joseph: Nice to meet you, too.
Jim: Finally.
Anthony: Our aunt, Joyce, invites us inside to meet her husband, learn about where we came from, and who our mom is.
- What were your memories of us, uh, before we left?
Joyce: Well, I think one of the main things that I remember most is that you guys didn't like to be separated.
You guys liked-- and we could put you guys away from each other on the bed, somehow you'd work your little baby, tiny, preemie bodies towards each other, just as long as you were touchin'.
You loved each other a lot; it was really cute.
It was really adorable.
[laughs] Yes.
[laughs] [sniff] The last time I saw my nephews, I remember them being very, very small.
I remember holding them with their heart and respiratory monitors, and I held their monitors in my hands and had their little bodies in my arms.
They were just tiny little guys.
- Were you and our mother close when we were born, and what was y'all's relationship dynamic at the time like?
- Um, we were very, very close.
I loved my sister with every fiber of my being.
Um, Ruth and I were, you know, constantly, always together.
So when that, it's like when she left, we, uh, kinda grew apart.
Um, but, uh, it's because of, you know, her mental issues, and it's, it's accelerating.
- When Anthony and I left when we were babies, how did it affect your sister, our mom?
- Um, well, to start off, I mean, obviously, it's, it was, it was horrible.
It was awful.
Um, your mom took it really bad.
Uh... it pretty much destroyed her.
In her defense, we didn't have a real, real easy childhood, and there was some abuse.
It affected her for a long time, too, and I don't think that even now, she's completely come back from it.
She's... it changed her for good.
What's happened with my sister since my nephews were taken from them is definitely very heartbreaking.
It was awful; it was very hard to see.
She definitely went straight downhill.
- Hearing how broken our mother was when we were taken away, it... it broke my heart.
It-it-it-it made me feel really, really sad because how our adoptive mom explained it was that she willingly gave us up, but when I realized that the truth was different... [sigh] It was hard to hear, and a part of me, um, really wants even more to go to her and say, hey, it's okay now.
We're here now.
You don't need to be sad anymore.
- I'm so grateful that you guys are here, and I'm so grateful that, that our family is complete again.
It's been a really long time; I'm sure it's been a long journey for you guys.
I'll never want this moment to end.
You know, you guys to stay here forever.
Joseph: We're happy to be here.
Meeting with Joyce today and hearing the truth about our mother was difficult, but we needed to hear it.
Anthony: It was an extremely emotional time, especially the part where she brought us into the kitchen to see a picture of our mother, Ruth.
[tranquil guitar music] ♪ Joyce: There's a few things that I wanted to share with you guys that I thought you might appreciate.
These are pictures of us when we were little.
This is me and my sister Bobbie, and that's your mother.
♪ And again, there's your mother.
Joseph: Oh, wow.
[laughs] ♪ Joseph: Seeing our mother for the first time was breathtaking.
Anthony and I have been waiting to really see her, a picture of her, for our whole lives, and now that we finally get to, I-I'm just, I'm speechless.
I-I don't know what to say.
Anthony: That's a good picture.
Yes.
That's amazing.
Joseph: Yeah.
Anthony: Seeing a face to the name, finally, after all this time... Now we finally know what our mom, Ruthanne, looks like, and that was absolutely incredible.
♪ Monika: My whole life, I've had questions about my adoption, and I've learned some of those answers along this journey, but sitting down with my little sister, Krystal, I'm learning even more.
I talked to Katie a little bit when I met Katie, and just kinda asking her, like, what was going on, if you guys thought about me, if you knew about me, and that type of thing.
Krystal: Yes.
We, we found out about you at about age 10.
We've talked about you, we've looked for you, you know, any type of information.
Monika: It's not, like, a secret whatsoever.
Krystal: It's not a secret.
It's never been a secret.
We've been looking for her for a very long time, and I want her to know and realize that she, she is important to us.
Magen: How did you look for her?
Krystal: I knew, um, that you were adopted into one of Marge's friends, but never knew any names.
I would go and visit Marge while I was there, and I would talk to her and try to get information about baby girl and figure out what family she was put into.
Monika: Hearing that my sister, Krystal, went to the lengths of going to Marge's house and trying to find out who adopted me, it's just amazing.
She really was determined to try and find out what happened to me, and I just love her for that.
- I did a lot.
I tried.
That was, uh, a dream.
It was a dream.
It's, it's been the biggest dream, it's been the biggest worry that we'd never be able to get to meet you, um, because, you know, when I, when I went and talked to Marge, Marge said, you know, she's the one that was put up for adoption, she needs to be the one that comes back.
Monika: Krystal seems like the most genuine, warm, caring, kind person that I've met.
I'm super excited she's my sister, I'm honored that she's my sister, and...
I'm excited to start to form a relationship with her.
♪ I don't know how to explain why I didn't pursue things further other than scared, nervous, unsure.... Yeah.
- That's right.
Everything's happened in their own time and for their own reason.
Monika: All the things that have happened along the race have happened, like, for a reason, you know?
- Yes.
Monika: And it's all been so crazy, like, it's all been working out perfectly, and I feel like now's the perfect time.
Do you?
Magen: Yeah, I really do, and I think that, I think there was a lot of fear and unknown coming into this for her, and I think some of the answers that you've gotten... Monika: Yeah.
- ...have been a, [exhales] a relief.
Monika: Yeah.
Magen: Um, a blessing.
- I, I do understand, and I understand, you know, like, the fear of being rejected.
I understand.
- Yeah.
Krystal: You know, I, I do.
I do, and I'm, but I'm glad you're here now.
Monika: I feel a sense of peace that I really haven't felt in a while.
I feel like a part of me has been connected, and I feel like we're going to form a really, really close bond after the show.
This moment has really been, like, 32 years in the making, and I'm...
This is just crazy.
Sitting here with you, looking at you face to face, and I'm excited for after this is all done, that we can keep in contact, and... - And I, I definitely want to keep in contact, build that relationship, and have a lifelong-- Monika: Sister power!
Krystal: A lifelong sister!
[laughter] Monika: Sister power!

[laughs] ♪ Sean: After we got to meet Mitch and his wonderful family, he then told us he wanted to take us a place that him and the kids like goin'.
Mitchell: This is, uh, the Ye Olde Mill.
We like to bring the kids here for ice cream, and... Kacey: Okay.
Mitchell: ...we wanted to show you guys a little bit around here so that you can experience what we love to do.
Sean: Awesome.
Kacey: Awesome!
Sean: Place is super cool.
Kacey: We're in the ice cream capital of Ohio.
Here's my newfound family, say hi!
Oh, that was very, very good.
♪ Sean: It was a really nice treat just being able to just kinda lay back, have the challenge behind us, get to have a nice, you know, unexpected dessert right in the middle of a hot day.
It was definitely, like, perfect.
♪ Kacey: So we sit down, um, and enjoy our ice cream and each other's company for a while, and then Mitch pulls out photographs.
Mitchell: This here is my oldest brother, Donny, and this is his three kids.
Kacey: Aww.
Mitchell: Um... Kacey: They're triplets?
Mitchell: Yep, he had triplets.
Kacey: It meant a lot to me that Mitch was able to share photos of my siblings that I have yet to meet.
Mitchell: I wanted her to have the opportunity to see some pictures of her other siblings that she might not have met yet and that, you know, eventually I'd like to get everybody together to where we can all be at one place at the same time.
Um, so she can meet everyone and they can meet her.
So that's me when I was little.
I was actually holdin', uh, our dad's, one of our dad's guitars.
Kacey: Oh, really?
Now can you play?
Are you musically int-- inclined?
Mitchell: Yeah, I play guitar.
Uh, Dustin plays drums, Donny plays some piano.
Kacey: Oh wow.
Mitchell: Um, yeah, there's a lot of music-- Kacey: So we could, like, make our own family band.
Mitchell: Pretty much.
Yeah.
Kacey: My whole life, I've been missing something, searching for something, um, because I didn't feel complete, and once I actually meet my biological family, you know, questions are being answered, um, you know, voids are being filled, and I feel like a more complete individual.
You know, I don't feel like I was left behind anymore by my biological family.
♪ Liz: After meeting my brother JJ, we got to go out on the patio and have dinner together, and really just got to talk and get to know each other better.
So I've always known I was adopted.
Like, um, I've got a wonderful family, I've got two older brothers, who are also adopted, so none of us are biologically related, but I've always been really, um, interested and would have a lot of questions about my biological family.
JJ: Liz is very outgoing.
Um, she's very friendly.
I think she's very sweet.
I think, you know, it was a strange situation to be adopted, and, and the fact that she had the drive to find her family, and uh, and luckily, you know, even though it took a long time, finally did, I think it's awesome.
Devin: Do you think you're more like your dad, Jerome, or... completely separate?
- Or like your, or your mom?
- They usually say that I'm like our grandparents more.
Liz: Oh, okay.
JJ: Yeah, 'cause like, I'm pretty handy and stuff.
Liz: So you like to build stuff?
JJ: Yeah, I work on stuff.
Liz: I like to build stuff.
What do you like to build?
JJ: Well, I worked on cars for like, 10 years before, like European cars and stuff.
Liz: So fascinated and interested with learning as much about JJ as I could.
Like, what are you into?
JJ: Boating.
Liz: Okay.
JJ: That's like my favorite thing.
Devin: How big is your boat; what kinda boat is it?
JJ: It's a Sea Ray; it's like, 32 feet.
Liz: To hear about our childhood experiences and things that were similar or things that were different, or, at least just get a sense of his, you know, his personality, and things that he likes to do, and... so it was, it was nice.
JJ: The sisters and us at prom when we were kids.
Liz: Oh, look at you guys!
JJ: [laughs] Liz: Oh, excuuuse me.
- Oh, we're definitely gonna spend a lotta time together.
Angelica, Jennifer, and Liz, we'll definitely get together and spend a lotta time together in the future.
- Seeing JJ's photos of all of my siblings together, I just, I just got so excited, and I can't wait for all of us to be together at the same time.

So, I know you guys are probably wonderin' where you're sleeping tonight.
Have you guys ever set up a tent before?
Kacey: Um, I go glamping.
I don't really do the whole primitive tent.
Sean: Kacey's not the type of wife that uh, just says, "Hey, let's go camping."
In fact, her, her preferred form would be glamping in a nice, comfy RV.
- One of the things we like to do as a family is camp, so we thought it would be fun if maybe we could set up a big tent, and we can all just sleep in a tent tonight.
Sean: I do think this will be a little bit different, sleeping on the hard earth in the bugs, but I think it's still gonna be fun, it's definitely gonna be a good experience.
[funky music] - Wah!
♪ We're not gonna get eaten by bears tonight, are we?
♪ Mitchell: That wasn't so bad.
Kacey: I kind of expected that I would be getting thrown a curveball at some point and doing something out in the wilderness.

I was definitely not expecting to be sharing said tent with a bunch of children and my newfound brother and his wife.
Sean: All right, we can get a chandelier up there, you can start glamping!
Kacey: Really, I think it's gonna go great, I think it's gonna be fun, so... [laughs] [intense music] ♪ ♪ Dan: This is it!
The halfway point of Relative Race.
You all have survived five days on the road, overcoming weather, challenges, unknown factors everywhere, all in an effort to find your family.
I know that Team Black, you guys were a little down yesterday.
You picked up your first strike, but Kacey, you had a really interesting start to this morning.
You were dialed in.
In fact, you put on a little somethin' to help you start the day.
What was that?
Kacey: This morning, I wanted to be in, like, super competitive mode, so I actually put on, um, black war paint, you know, to get, get the blood flowin' and, and uh, continue the competition.
Dan: Team Green.
You guys have been sittin' near the top almost every day, but you did pick up a strike.
How 'bout today?
Magen: Yeah, I think we got out on a strong start.
We got to the challenge, we figured it out.
Yeah, and if, a couple of bumps in the road with navigating to the relative's house, but, nothing we couldn't overcome, and...
I think overall, it was a great day.
Dan: Team Blue, our twins.
Was this an up day, a down day, or just kind of a mid-level day?
- Towards the end, where we had to find our relative's house, that was kind of a struggle.
Anthony: Our hiccup.
Dan: But ultimately, you do find your relative's home, and who did you guys meet today?
Joseph: [laughs] We actually met our auntie, Joyce.
Joyce: Hi everybody!
[chuckles] Dan: It, the, is it just amazing for you guys to run to a door, have it open up, and realize that whoever is standing there is your blood?
Joseph: It, it's an amazing feeling, and... like, we instantly knew there was an instant connection, and it, it was just beautiful.
My brother and I were just blown away.
Joyce: It was wonderful, it was great.

[laughs] I've never had any siblings, so this is just so awesome to be meeting them along this journey.
Dan: Well, congratulations for you Monika on finding another very important part of your family, your sister, and what has this ride been like for your best friend?
Magen: It's been incredible.
Um, this is something that she has wanted for so long, and to be able to support her in this is everything to me.
- I'll bet you you'll be a part of many family reunions in the future.
Magen: I hope so!
She's got some really fantastic family.
[sniffs] - Let's turn our attention to Team Black.
You do get to your relative's home in pretty good time, and what happened then?
Kacey: So we pull up, and out walks this man who has a red beard, and, um, I am blessed with a big brother!
This is Mitchell.
Mitchell: How's it goin' guys?
Kacey: So now I have a big brother and a little brother, and, uh, you know, my life is becoming more complete!
Dan: Guys, congratulations on finding each other.

Liz, does finding your biological family change anything about your relationship with your adoptive family?
Liz: What's amazing about this show and this experience is that it's, it's not, the... process of finding biological family is, is, takes nothing away from your adoptive family.
It just adds to it and expands to it.
It's just about love growing, our hearts getting bigger, and really just being able to, to merge our childhoods with our future experiences.
It's a true blessing.
Dan: The beauty about family... all of a sudden, you just find this capacity to continue to open and reach out, and, and love whomever you meet at the moment, and you had another great moment today.
Liz, who did you meet?
Liz: The moment I saw this individual, I knew that it was my brother!
So, I've got a baby brother.
JJ, this is JJ.
He is, like, the chillest guy I've met on the planet, but he's got this sparkle in his eyes.
We just got to hang out and catch up, and I've been, like, going a mile a minute I think since I've met him, and, uh, trying not to overwhelm him with all of my, my energy, but I'm just, I'm so excited and so grateful.
Dan: Congratulations on growing those connections and finding family, this time, a baby brother.
So we got an older brother for Kacey, we got a baby brother, we got sisters, we have aunts, this is so great, guys, this is the beauty of Relative Race!
But then, the reality sets in: the race part.
