A puzzled Team Red, took home their first strike.
Team Blue scored first place, and won a benefit for one minute of GPS in today's race.
Karim: We definitely gonna use that wisely.
Rachelle: [laughing] Yes, yes we are.
- [crying] Dan: Tiffani met her brother Christopher, and learned the sobering news about her father.
- Unfortunately he passed away too.
- I would rather have heard that from you, than anybody else.
Dan: Angela also received some disappointing news about her father, from her uncle, Bart.
- He just fell off the grid.
- So, I won't be meeting him.
- No, you will not be meeting him.
Dan: And Layton had an emotional meeting with her aunt, Sabrina.
And learned why her mother put her up for adoption.
- I turned around and there's my sister, with a big ole' belly.
They're like, "Well, we need help."
[crying] There's so many things that I wish could've gone differently.
♪ Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing-- - Woo!
- Here we go!
[car revving] Dan: To win $50,000-- - We're here!
We made it!
Dan: And to find their family.
[knocking] Singer: ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ ♪ Oh-oh-oh ♪ ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ ♪ Oh-oh-oh ♪ ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ ♪ Oh-oh-oh ♪ ♪ It's Day 6 of Relative Race.
In Riverbank, California, Team Red, Tiffani and Jose, received their first strike of the race last night.
But the pain of a strike was quickly erased, when Tiffani met her brother Christopher for the very first time.
Tiffani: Spending the morning with Christopher was amazing.
We gotta hang out, and, and talk, and, get to know each other a little bit better.
- I'm just upset that we didn't get more time, I know we've got more to go, but I'm thankful for the time that we did get to have.
- Yep, likewise.
- There's one thing that I did wanna give you.
Um, this, uh, this actually belonged to our dad, uh, he's had this since we lived here, in Riverbank.
I, I can remember as young as three years old, and he's always had this.
He kept it with him the whole time.
This was originally an earring.
Later on, he turned that earring into a necklace, and I found out that, um, he had actually been carrying this around his, well, my whole life, for you.
♪ This was, uh, something that he kept, to remember you for.
And one of the big regrets that he had in his life, was that, uh, he didn't get to, uh, have you and keep you around.
And he actually carried this with him, constantly.
I had no idea if I was ever gonna get the opportunity to, give this to you, or if this was just gonna wind up sitting in his old stash box, but, this is uh, something that he had made into a necklace, but that's the piece of you that he kept with him.
Tiffani: It's so comforting and amazing to know that, you know, after he was the one that pressure, pressured mom to give me up, that, he regretted it.
Christopher: Oh he did, big time.
- And wanted to have a relationship with me, wow.
- Yeah.
- Thank you.
♪ It was really great to know, that, that he did think about me and, and cared about me after all these years.
I will keep this forever.
- You better.
[Tiffani laughing] I've been holdin' onto it for a long time.
Both: [laugh] ♪ Dan: Team Green, Angie and Kelly begin their day in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
The sisters-in-law are currently the only team with two strikes.
- We don't wanna go home today.
We met my uncle Bart last night, and it's just really givin' us a boost, we wanna keep going and we wanna keep meeting more family.
Bart: These are, the best pictures that I have of your grandmother, before she got sick.
- Did she know about me?
- She did, she talked about you several times in the past.
But when, Relative Race got a hold of us, that's all my mom talked about, she's like, "This is, this is amazing."
She goes, "Even though it's been so many years, it's, I'm glad it's happening now."
And then she took a turn for the worst with her health, and... She passed away on us.
♪ - It's just really sad, I just, I wish I could've met her, I know, it seems like, she was a wonderful person, and, I just wish I could've met her.
We just missed her by a few months.
- I loved my mom.
I kept her close to me, and, and I know she was excited for this.
I'm telling you she, she wanted to be here.
It put me more determined to continue with it, to meet you, for her.
You know, she would've loved you.
- I know that I sort of, like, represent sort of the things that he's lost.
But, I've also given them some closure, and we can move forward from here.
♪ Team Blue, Rachelle and Karim, are in Athens, Georgia.
They won the first-place benefit last night, and received one minute of GPS time to use in today's race.
Rachelle: Winning GPS is exactly what we need to feel extra confident in going into Day 10, and Karim's cousin, Cynthia, is a worship leader, so, as an extra boost, like, who's better to lead us in prayer?
Cynthia: Let us pray.
Father, God in the name of Jesus, once again, we come before you with humble hearts.
Karim: I wanted to pray this morning with my cousin, 'cause the journey has been long, and we're at the middle point of it, and we just need those extra blessings.
Cynthia: For this is in Jesus's name that we pray, amen, amen, and amen.
All: Amen.
Karim: Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
Rachelle: This journey has been flying by, I can't believe it's already Day 6, we only have a few more days till Day 10.
♪ Dan: 1,500 miles west of Team Blue, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Layton, on Team Black, is saying goodbye, for now, to her aunt Sabrina.
Sabrina: Layton, I can't express how wonderful it was to meet you.
To have this opportunity, I just-- Layton: You're gonna make me cry again.
- I'm just, I don't want you to leave, I just, like I said last night, this does definitely close one chapter, but it's opening up such another beautiful chapter in our lives, and I'm so excited to get to know you better.
I'm so happy.
Layton: It's really sweet to see how much my aunt Sabrina cares about me, and it's really hard to have to leave her so soon.
♪ - Smile.
[camera shutter clicks] That's a good one.
- I love you.
♪ - Oh shoot.
Oh, sorry guys, I got a text from Dan.
Tiffani: Oh, we got a text.
- "Good morning teams, "and welcome to Day 6 of Relative Race.
- "Team Red will be traveling to Bakersfield, California.
- "Team Blue will be traveling to Forest Park, Georgia."
Okay.
- "Team Black will be traveling "to Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
- "And Team Green will be traveling to Savannah, Georgia."
I've never been there.
Have you?
- That's exciting, no!
That's awesome.
- "Today's first-place prize is a five-minute video call with anyone of your choice."
Wow!
- "Your time starts now."
- Okay.
- Awesome, sounds good.
- Okay, we gotta go, we gotta go.
Aw, I love you.
- I love you.
- We gotta go, Bart.
Bart: Oh, absolutely.
- Yeah, we gotta go, we gotta go.
- You ready?

Karim: Hate to rush.

Angie: Bye, thanks for everything.
Bart: Get goin'.
[bags rolling] Tiffani: Bye!
[car revs] ♪ Angela: Thank you.
[engines revving] ♪ ♪ Kyle: Take Ox Street.
- And then Cerrillos is the next.
- And it's got big I-25 signs on it.
- Yay!
- Look at us, reading maps!
Dan: Building confidence in their map reading skills, Team Black is leaving Santa Fe and headed to Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
They have an allotted time, including today's challenge, of 1 hour and 11 minutes.
Jose: We gotta go back, go back to that main road.
- What?
- Go back to that main road that we just passed at that stop sign.
Tiffani: [sighs] - We're going southeast, babe.
We're going away from there.
- Ughh!
Dan: Starting their day off in the wrong direction, Team Red, Jose and Tiffani, are leaving Riverbank and headed to Bakersfield, California.
They have an allotted time of 3 hours and 17 minutes.
- Santa Fe Avenue?
So am I turning right or left?
-It says left, but that don't sound right, we gotta go that way, it says left.
Go left, just go left.
Go left and then right onto Vincent.
So we have to go right, left and then right.
Tiffani: [sighs] I told you, I had a dream that we got another strike.
Let's not make that happen.
♪ Karim: ♪ He-aayyeee.
♪ ♪ Blue Team is-- ♪ Together: ♪ On fire.
♪ ♪ Dan: Feeling on fire with their GPS benefit in hand today, Team Blue, Kareem and Rachelle, are leaving Athens, Georgia, and heading to Forest Park, Georgia.
They have an allotted time of 1 hour and 32 minutes.
- ♪ Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo-doo, doo ♪ [mimicking drums] ♪ Doo-doo, doo-doo, doo, doo ♪ ♪ [laughs] Today feels like a good day.
♪ Kelly: Look, I can see bright skies up ahead.
Angela: Yeah.
- It could mean two different things for us though, bright skies like we're gonna keep going in this journey or bright skies, like-- - We're gonna get to go home.
- Yeah.
- And see our kids.
[laughs] It's a-- - I, I, I feel like yeah.
- It's a coin toss, we have no idea, it's one or the other.
[laughs] Dan: Staying optimistic about the outcome today, Team Green is leaving Fayetteville, North Carolina, heading to Savannah, Georgia.
They have an allotted time of 3 hours and 52 minutes.
- I don't wanna go home yet.
- No?
- No.
Angela: It's like we've come this far and-- Kelly: Yeah!
- I mean, this is gonna be something that I talk about for, like, ever-- - The rest of your life-- - For the rest of my life, like, you know?
♪ - First sign you see babe, just call it out.
Kareem: [silly voice] City limit.
- [silly voice] City limit.
Kelly: We should see a sign soon.
Kyle: All right.
Layton: I don't see anything.
Karim: Forest Park, right here, right here, right there.
- Good eye.
Tiffani: City center sign-- Jose: Where am I goin'?
- Right, right here!
Under the city center sign, right here.
♪ Rachelle: All right, take the phone.
- Hold it, don't move.
Jose: We're good?
Rachelle: And take it.
[shutter snaps] - Try that.
- Okay it's fine, I'm sending it.
- Okay, let's go.
I'm gonna go run into this visitor's center and get a map.
♪ Rachelle: Okay.
Both: "Welcome to Forest Park, Georgia--" - "Your challenge is located at 615 Amelia Drive."
- "Orling Square."
'Kay.
Kelly: Find a map.
Angie: Okay.
Kelly: Let's find a map really quick.
Tiffani: 3125 La Cresta Drive.
Layton: Thank you.
♪ Dan: Feeling hungry?
The challenge for Day 6 is Food Fight!
In this challenge, teams must toss various ingredients to each other across a 10 foot span to make the perfect parfait and succulent sandwich.
Once they have caught all the ingredients, they will need to eat their Relative Race lunch in order to complete their food fight.
- Good luck and good eating-- Both: Let's go!
Tiffani: Quick, go over there, over there.
Kyle: Woo hoo!
Layton: Awesome.
- Food!
Karim: Oh my-- - Which you wanna do?
Catch a parfait?
I'll eat the sandwich.
Okay.
- Uh-- Rachelle: Good for you?
- I really don't wanna eat the parfait.
Rachelle: I know, I'm sorry!
- Okay, talk to me!
- Okay I have tomatoes on my thing, I have granola, blueberries, bread.
♪ Kyle: We were just there to toss things back and forth.
Cup!
Go!
So we said, "Why don't we toss the cup back and forth?"
Make it super easy.
Yeah, baby!
Comin' back.
- I figured it was easier to just make the sandwich and throw it as in a, a whole to Kyle.
- This had to go on here, ready?
- Okay.
It's gonna be gross, sorry.
- No, I'm fine with it.
- I'm throwin' at you, you ready?
- Aight.
Aight, it ain't gon' work like that, here, look, look.
- Okay.
- All right here, here, here.
You take that.
- Okay.
It's quite gross and very, very messy.
♪ Jose: Ugh, c'mon, c'mon.
'Kay, mayo, mayo, mayo!
Give me a big glob.
'Kay, ready?
Tiffani: Yup, yup, yup.
- There was a spoon for that.
- Shush.
[laughs] - Yummy, okay.
Okay I'ma try and aim at your table then, okay?
- Aight.
I need more than that, I need way more-- ooh.
[splat] Tryin' to catch the yogurt in the cup, is virtually impossible when 'Chelles is throwin' it.
- Ange, catch this, okay?
- We get one shot here, I don't know what happens if it dr-- falls.
Let's go.
Okay, I caught it.
[laughing] That was gross, okay.
- Okay.
Tiffani: Strawberries, strawberries.
Jose: Try to hold, your hand, use your hand babe, use your hand!
- Okay go, go, go!
Just toss me a bunch.
Jose: Okay go.
The hardest part of the challenge was probably catching the small pieces like the granola and the berries.
Tiffani: Granola!
- Ready?
Ready?
- Yep.
- Oh, here ya go, here ya go.
- Give me some more, give me some more.
Kelly: I need tomato.
- Oh you're gonna hate me, there's whip cream on-- - No throw it full, I'll cut it over here.
- Okay.
- Really had a rhythm to it, I don't think we dropped anything.
Rachelle: Okay, I just need two meats now.
- Oh man, come on, that was perfect.
- That was perfect.
- Ugh.
Rachelle: Okay, one more.
- Mm, pretty good.
Rachelle: Okay, perfect.
- You said you like strawberries, right?
- I love strawberries.
Kyle: 'Kay, sounds good.
Parfait ready.
- Am I throwing you this first?
Kyle: Yeah, serve me that first, 'cause I'm worried that we'll have to remake it.
Nice.
- Hurry?
Tiffani: Yep, yep, yep.
Ooh, nice, nice, nice.
Jose: That a girl.
- Okay yogurt, yogurt, yogurt.
- Ready?
Tiffani: Yeah.
Oh, good.
- And then here, ready?
One, two, three.
Oh!
- Okay.
- Throw it up.
- Look like, whoo, but don't throw the container at me.
Rachelle: I'm not.
You ready?
Karim: Yeah.
This just taking too long to fill this cup up so I'm scraping everything off the table, off my shoes, and off the ground.
♪ Karim: I'm about to get this off my shoe.
Since I don't know what a parfait is anyway, I'm putting any and everything in it.
Kelly: Here's your cherry.
'Kay.
- Give me the cherry.
Rachelle: You ready?
- Yeah.
Come on, get it in there.
Come on.
Rachelle: Catch it, catch it.
There we go.
- 'Kay, let's eat.
- Hey, cherry, cherry.
Tiffani: Cherry.
Start eating, start eating.
Singer: ♪ Yeah ♪ Kelly: Got my lettuce, put my sandwich together, and um, started eating.
Angela: I don't think I'm gonna be able to eat this.
Kelly: I just swallowed a big chunk of bread whole, just eat it.
- I, I can't eat this, I mean, no one can eat this much, I'm gonna throw up.
- Swallow it.
I tried to cheer her on, make her feel good, and I think it was making her mad.
- Go there.
- This is awful.
Jose: I had to douse it with my water that I was drinking to make it easier to eat and that made it even more messier.
[muffled] Come on, babe, come on.
- This is nasty.
- [muffled] This is the hardest part.
- Mm.
Rachelle: Yucky.
Trying to wolf down this sandwich is pretty hard.
Not only am I eating sandwich, but I'm eating cherry juice as well, and it's, it's disgusting.
[muffled] Good job Karim, keep going.
Yum, yum, yum.
- I've never had a parfait before.
- [muffled] Good introduction.
- This one got mustard in it.
- Ready to go?
- I'm done.
I don't think I've ever eaten that fast.
- Woo.
Karim: How you doing over there?
- Struggling but getting through.
- You wanted the sandwich.
Rachelle: I did.
I regret it.
Karim: I don't know what her problem is, I'm like, yogurt, good, strawberries, good, mustard, good.
- Think about $50,000.
- I can't eat this, this is-- I'm gonna throw up.
- Be positive and swallow it.
- It's just really thick.
[gags] Jose: You okay?
Don't want to throw it up.
[spoon clacking] - I'm done.
Rachelle: Okay.
Kelly: I'm done.
- I'm done.
- Hm-hm?
[dings] - "Your relative lives at 3125 La Cresta Drive Bakersfield, California."
- You got it, you got it, you got it, you got it.
Don't even think about it.
- [gags] Kyle: Call it, call it.
- You finish?
- Done.
[dings] Let's go.
Karim: All right, cool, let's go.
- Sweet, sweet.
[dings] Kyle: [laughs] I got the card.
- All right.
- "Your relative lives at 1928--" - "Menaul Boulevard."
- "Apartment K12."
- Got it, Albuquerque, let's go.
Kelly: Pretend it's a pill in pudding like, you have no teeth, you gotta swallow your pills, you can only take them in applesauce.
Come on, swallow it.
- You're not helping me.
- I did it for motivation purposes, but I don't think she took it that way.
- I mean, I was, I was going as fast I could, like I just-- I'm sorry, I was going as fast as I could.
- Well I'm gonna put lids on this, start cleaning up at least.
That's ready to go, that's ready to go.
I don't know if anyone wants the mayonnaise.
Is there a dish rag anywhere?
- We're done, we're done.
[dings] Angela: "Your relative lives at 104 Shamrock Circle in Savannah," let's go.
Tiffani: What is it called?
Jose: La Cresta.
- La Cresta.
Should I go over to 30?
To 31?
Jose: Look at the numbers, hold on.
29, 30, yeah, go for it.
Rachelle: All right, Crane Rows.
Dan: Meanwhile, in the Team Blue car, yesterday's first-place prize of one minute of GPS time is now being used.
- I'm so glad we got one minute of GPS.
Walt Stevens, you're gonna turn left onto Camp Av.
Without it, it would've been so hard to find their address.
- I just need to get to a major road.
This only has major roads on it.
- Do you want me to go back down to the one that we were at?
Layton: The current map that we have is not very detailed and it only has the major roads on it.
- But I think that's gonna get us close enough, and we can get there from there.
- I have Lomas which we were on, but we need to go that way.
- We need to go that way?
Layton: So I mean, you can either keep going that way or-- I just don't have a map to know if these are dead end streets.
- Okay.
- All right, then what's after that?
Rachelle: And then two lefts, two lefts, Thorton Boulevard, and Watercrest Drive.
The GPS has been so helpful, only a few more turns and we're on our relatives street.
Man: [through walkie talkie] Okay, put the phone down.
Angela: This looks terrifying.
- All right, you're-- - Okay, here goes.
- All right.
You run in.
Angela: The map that we pick up from the tourist center is not detailed enough, so we decide that we need to stop and ask for directions.
- We'll just keep going straight, go straight, go straight, go straight better, go straight.
Tiffani: But this is 29.
Jose: Yeah I know.
But the 29, 30, 31-- so we gotta hit La Cresta coming this way.
[car honk] - What?
Whoa.
I had people honking at me, and we can't figure out where we want to go.
This is frustrating.
- Menaul, that's Menaul.
- Thank you.
Okay, left or right.
- It runs the entire way.
I would go right-- - That's what I was thinking.
- Because this is more town-- like houses than-- that's more into the city.
- All right I'm going follow what he said go back the way we came.
- Thank you, go go back this way.
All right.
I'm so glad that this guy knows where to go because we have no idea.
- I'm gonna ask him, ask him.
- Hey bro, hey you know where La Cresta is at?
La Cresta drive?
No, yeah, no worry, you good man, thank you.
- Nobody knows where this road is, so we're starting to get nervous.
Rachelle: Jodeco.
Karim: Jodeco.
Rachelle: Jodeco.
- Jodeco!
- And then [rythmically] left on Thornton then left on Watercrest.
- Coming up, coming up, at the light.
- All right, perfect.
Angela: Come on red light.
Oh my gosh, are you serious?
Kelly: Who has a green light right now?
Angela: This is ridiculous.
Tiffani: La Cresta, Cresta.
Jose: Go, go Cresta.
Tiffani: Left.
Ho ho.
We have no idea where we're going, but again we went right into the street we're looking for.
That's like, every day for us.
2710, we got a ways.
- 2710.
Kelly: Whoa.
Angela: I think that red light's broken, I don't think that guy was stopping.
[gasp] That red light was so broken, that guy was not stopping.
- That was the worst traffic light I ever sat at in my life.
Rachelle: Watercrest, left.
And then-- - 1928.
- 1928.
- I remember 1928.
We're good.
- These are odd numbers, it's gonna be on this side.
- Yeah that's right, you're right, you're right.
Jose: 3125.
Tiffani: So it's gonna be on this side.
- Turn-- right here, right here, right here.
♪ - Hello.
Gina: Hi.
- I'm Jose.
- I'm Gina Goodwin, nice to meet you.
Jose: My wife Tiffani.
Both: Hi, nice to meet you.
- So whose relative are you?
- I'm Tiffani's relative.
- You're mine?
- Yes.
- What?
How are we related?
- I'm your cousin on your dad's side.
- Oh my gosh.
Oh.
Wow.
Tiffani: So nice to meet you!
This is so unexpected.
- Yes it is.
- Gina is awesome.
I immediately love her.
- I'm excited to meet you.
Tiffani: Are you?
- Very happy, yes.
I think it was really special to be able to hug somebody that was my relative, my cousin that I'd never met before.
I could tell that we were related, like, we had the same DNA.
There was something about it, felt very connected to her.
- How long have you known?
- A few weeks.
Jose: Yeah?
- Really?
Okay good.
- Yeah.
- Wow.
So how are-- what's the connection?
How are you related to my dad?
- Our grandmothers are related.
- Oh, okay, our grandmothers are related.
Gina: Mm-hm.
- Awesome.
- Yeah.
- How exciting.
- Yes, I'm so excited to meet you.
You have beautiful eyes.
- Oh, thank you, so do you.
- Thank you.
- You have a beautiful smile.
- Thank you.
- Oh my goodness, this is so amazing.
- I know it's so exciting.
I was super excited because I love family and I love knowing who my family is.
It's very important to me.
I like to do my own research about family and so, to be able to meet Tiffani and know that she's one of my cousins, it was just a really special moment.
- It's so good to meet you, can I have another hug?
- Of course.
- Oh my goodness.
- She's so warm and welcoming and it, it's-- I don't know if this is just getting easier and easier but, it's very natural and it's just really, comforting.
♪ Karim: 19, 19, 19, 19... - 1928.
- 1928 right here.
- Perfect.
- 1928.
We here.
[investigative music] Rachelle: Okay.
♪ [reflective piano music] Karim: Hello, my name's Karim, and this is my cousin Rachelle.
- How you doing?
I'm Keon.
How you doing, how you doing?
- Hi, nice to meet you.
Keon: How you doing?
Nice to meet you too.
- And who are you related to?
- Rachelle.
- And how are we related.
- Your brother.
- Wow.
- Hugging my sister for the first time, embracing my sister was, it was unbelievable.
Rachelle: It was such a beautiful moment.
I could feel the love immediately.
It felt like, we were meant to be in this moment together.
- You look just like your mama too.
- Really?
Everybody been saying that.
- I swear, y'all twins.
[all laughing] Keon: You're beautiful darling, you know that.
- You're handsome, I was gonna say you're beau-- you're handsome.
It's so good to see you.
- You too, nice to see you too.
- Wow.
I'm just so shocked.
- You had no idea?
- No.
- Well yeah, yeah.
- I just met Kenisha-- - Yeah.
- And she was not spilling the beans at all.
- She's the big sister.
- She is?
Okay so you're younger than her?
- Yeah.
- Wow, it's so nice to see you.
- Yeah, you too, you too.
I've been waiting for this day forever to-- - I have too, I've been waiting on siblings, so... - You got 'em.
- This is a blessing.
- Don't worry about it, we're going to take care of you though.
- Wow.
- Welcome to the family.
- Thank you.
This is such a good surprise.
- It was, it was.
I get you a stepladder to hug 'cause with my back you gonna kill-- All: [laughing] Keon: That's a long way to go.
- Okay hold on, I can do it.
[all laughing] Keon: Immediately we start laughing together.
We got the same kindred spirit it seemed like, you know what I'm saying?
Like joyful and just, playful.

- My oldest daughter just graduated from Albany State last year.

Now my nieces and nephews they almost as old as me?

Keon: They have-- oh, you're family too.
- Yes, this is my cousin, Karim.

After meeting my brother we just connect and, it, it feels so good to just talk and laugh and joke, and it feels very natural and, immediately I just feel like I'm home.
[soft sustained synth note] ♪ Angela: Oh, there it is.
- Ahh, it took us forever.
Angela: Yeah.

So um, I know you've known about me your whole life.

- I've kind of learned little bits and pieces along the way.

Angela: He's really easy going, and, we just hit it off right away.
It was, it was great.
Do you have kids?
- Yeah, I do.

- I got one.
I got a six-year-old daugher.
- I have a six-year-old son.
- Do you really?
- Mm-hm.
And I have a two-year-old daughter.
- Aw.
I'm just glad to know you're doing well.

- I've been, been waiting for this for a long time.

We've always known about her, you know, so, just curious and waited for the day to finally meet her, just you know, wish I could've met her a long time ago.

We have a whole lot of catching up to do.
We have 30-plus years of catching up to do.
- You're more tan than... - I'm a golfer, I'm a golfer and I'm outside nonstop all day long, so.
- I'm married to a golfer.

Angela: She's my sister-in-law, so... - Okay.
- Our, our husbands are brothers.
We married into the same family.

Kyle: I'm pretty sure she knows who you are already.

- Yes, I am your mom.

[crying] I knew as soon as I got out of the car, looking at you.
[laughs] - [exhales] - [laughs] I'm gonna hug you one more time.
She's beautiful and it felt so good to hug her.
You're a short little one.
- Yes, I am, I am.
All of you get your height from your dad.
All of you.
[sighs] - It's been a minute.
- A-- Yeah.
Wow.
They just, they, yeah.
There's no words.
There's not.
I don't think a word has been invented.
It's scary, happy, excited, nervous.
I think I wanna throw up.
- Yeah.
- Does that work?
- That works great with me.
I don't know if I want to throw up from the parfait or from the excitement of this but, I just-- - Right?
Layton: Her and I are very similar in our reactions and we're both just standing there of just, this is happening.
I hope you know I'm not mad at anything that you did.

- I have a wonderful life.
- Good, 'cause that was the, the main concern, but yes I do have pictures, pictures that you, some that you might find familiar.
Layton: Okay.
- And some that you'll be happy to see.
- Okay.
- Oh yes, I do have a surprise, but I'm not gonna tell you what it is yet.
Just yet, not just yet, we'll look at the pictures.
I would take you into my house but you're allergic to cats.
- Very.
- You did not get that from me, 'cause I have two cats.
So you didn't get that from me.
I don't know who you got that from.

- [laughs] That's me, in the womb.

- Yes.
- I wanna say, I just want to show you, I, like, I know, everybody else has seen this picture multiple times.
This is the one picture where I'm like, I look like you.
- Oh.

Yes, you look like me.
Layton: A lot.
- Yeah, oh, oh, yes.
Layton is me.
She's my attitude, my humor, my sentence structure, I mean, she talks like me.
She's me.
♪ Dan: In New Mexico, Layton is learning more about her mother Shari, and her past.
- I was 19-- I was 18 when I got pregnant, turned 19 in November.
So I was 19.
Like I said, my mom was really sick so my dad pretty much when I told them that I was pregnant it was pretty much, "Well, you know, we can't, your mom's sick, so we can't."
So that wasn't an option.
Giving up Layton was a nine-month fight, both with myself, with family, with friends.
And I didn't really give the okay until like the last second, but, things happen for a reason, I've always believed, and, if we were meant to raise you... - Circumstances would've been different.
- Circumstances would've been different, we would've gotten support from somewhere.
- Yeah.
- Somewhere.
You know, there you go.
- I was gonna say, yeah, no, I have no qualms with anything.
- Yeah.
- Nobody but a mother could make that call, and, I just, I felt from her that she was just very happy with the way that things turned out.
Not that she didn't love me, but it was just the best situation not only for me, but for her as well.
Shari was explaining to me that I have two younger brothers, and a younger sister.
I was gonna ask, like, do the three know about me at all?
Shari: They know about you.
Layton: Okay.
- Reagan found this-- - Okay.
- --when she was five, and found this picture and thought it was her.
And I was like, "No, that's your older sister Layton."
So she has been asking to meet you and to see you since she was five years old.
- Okay.
- Reagan's birthday is today.
Which, she is currently at her birthday party.
- Okay.
- So, I kinda need a birthday present for her.
♪ - So I get to meet her?
- Yes, you're gonna get to meet her.
Layton and Reagan are going to be like two puzzle pieces that fit together.
She does not know this is happening.
- Okay.
- It's gonna be exciting to see.
- That's fantastic.

[sustained guitar note] ♪ Gina: We sit down, and I can't wait to share everything that I know about our family with Tiffani.
So, this is a photo of our great-grandmother, Bessie Mae.
- Bessie Mae, oh wow.
- And some of her children there.
Here's our grandmothers together.
So that's your grandmother Leona, and my grandmother Ethel.
Tiffani: Sitting down with Gina, I discovered that our grandmothers were sisters.
- And of course you have the features of Leona as well.
I can see it, yeah.
- Yeah.
That is so cool.
Jose: I see the resemblance here big time.
You can't deny it here.
Tiffani: Yeah, the eyes.
Jose: The eyes, definitely, wow.
- The eyes, that's where I get these eyes.
She just kind of kept passing it down and that was the first thing that I noticed.
- The family, um, actually lived in this covered wagon.
This was their home.
Kind of like that, they were very, very poor, and it was the only way that they could survive because they didn't have money to live in a regular home, so...
I really see that me and Tiffani definitely got these traits from our grandmothers.
We're hardworking, we love to take care of our family, we love to feed our family well, and that was exactly how these women were, um, our grandmothers, Leona and Ethel.
They had to work hard just to survive.
They had to actually go out and the kids had to make money, so that they could help the family, so they could eat.
- Yeah.
It just reminds us how lucky we are now.
The things that we don't have to experience.
But it also humbles us, knowing that we come from stock that are tough people, and the fact that we can, I can bridge those two, my adopted family and my biological family has gone through the same hardships.
It's pretty special.
Thank you so much for sharing these with me.
I know my adopted history, and it goes way, way back.
But, different when it's your biological history, and so, this is very, very important to me, and I'm so thankful that you shared this with me, I really, really am.

♪ Dan: In Georgia, Rachelle is learning about her brother, Keon.
- How was it, growing up in the Simpsons family?
- Horrible.
No, no.
Both: [laugh] Rachelle: I'm like, well everybody else says something different.
[laughs] - Welcome to the truth moment.
Both: [laughing] Keon: Um, family oriented.
Rachelle: Mm-hm, everyone's been saying that.
- Like family oriented.
- Can you tell me about our daddy, like, like, you know, tell me from your perspective.
- Funny, he's a funny guy.
He's real funny.
He love hard.
Rachelle: Hearing my brother talk about our father, it kind of solidifies in my mind who my father is and how he is with family.
And, you know, just to clarify, you know, you and I, we share the same dad, but, do we have the same mom, or do you have a different mom?
- I have a different mother.
Rachelle: Okay.
- So, we, we brother and sister through our father.
- Okay.
- Today is the anniversary of my mother passing.
Rachelle: Mm.
- So, so today was like... Rachelle: A weird day, yeah.
Keon: Today was bittersweet, but I know she woulda wanted me to go through this moment, so, I felt like she's proud of me for going through with it, and, you know what I'm saying?
Being strong.
And I got a chance to meet a angel too, she's a beautiful sister.
So my mama, she smiling with me, I appreciate it.
It was a good day though, 'cause I got a chance to meet you.
Rachelle: Yes.
- So it's like, I lost, but I gained.
Know what I'm saying?
Karim: Absolutely.
Rachelle: Yeah.
- So.
- Everything happens for a reason.
- Today's gonna be a good day.
- Of course, it definitely is.
I mean, it's a good day, I met you, and I didn't even know I had a brother, so.
- I just feel like I was there to try to help, fulfill as much as I could, try to be there to guide and tell her as much as I know.
So, that's my role in this whole process, to get my side, from what I seen.
- So you said that, you know, your mother and my mother was really close.
Um, have you seen her since our father and her split?
- I haven't really seen your mother since, almost 20 years.
- Mmm.
- I haven't seen or heard from her, I don't know if anybody heard from her or not.
- Yeah.
Keon: I'm wishing and hoping for the best for you two.
Rachelle: Yeah.
It was very comforting hearing my brother tell me that he would do all that he could to help me understand more about my mother and who she was, and at this point that's all I can ask for and hope for is, just to know her at least through the eyes of others.
Because at least then, I'll understand more of who she was, and that's more than I've ever known, and so those answers are everything.
I'm just really happy, that you know, I got to talk to you, and meet you.
I grew up as the only child, so, I never had siblings, I've always wanted siblings, but, you know.
[sniffs] I never thought I even had any so... - So whatever you find out, might be peace in knowing that you come from people that loves you now.
'Kay?
♪ Bobby: I've always wondered if you were okay, if you were, you know, healthy, happy.
You know, I know what my mom's ex-- our mom's explained what happened, and you know, feel like she made the best decision, you know, for you, at that time.
And with me growing up with my mom, how we were, you know, it wasn't that easy either, you know, so, we just wished you, hoped you had a good life, and you know, we're ready-- I was-- we've always wanted to meet you.
Angela: Hearing that my mother and brother have always wanted to meet me, and that, they've just always wanted the best for me is amazing to hear, and it's just really what I had hoped for.
- Couldn't wait to find ya, couldn't wait to see ya, I'm glad this is happening, this is like for real, I'm very glad to meet my sister.
- Yeah.
- It's awesome.
Angela: Did you try to find me at some point?
- I didn't know how.
My mom asked, our mom used to ask like, "Hey, why don't you," you know, "Why don't you try to locate her."
And I didn't know how, didn't know what to do, I was the young one, you know, I don't... Something was with the records, or closed records, or something, I don't know the whole story.
Angela: It's the whole like closed record thing.
That's why I could never find anyth-- any information out.
- Okay, yeah so she didn't-- like I said, I know it goes back to my-- She didn't know what to-- you was gonna take it, how you was gonna react, you know?
It's just-- there's so many situations that you can be like.
- I never hel-- like held any grudge or anything like that.
- Yeah, yeah.
No, I know she was going through it at that time.
Angela: Yeah.
You know from what my mom, she told me, it wasn't that easy for her.
I'm looking forward to being there for her, if anything that she needs to be, you know, if she needs help in any kind of way, just knowing that she has a brother to call on.
I might be the young brother but, still be there for her no matter what.
Angela: Meeting my brother it was just, all these years of wondering if I had a sibling, and finally meeting him, it was, it's overwhelming.
He's awesome and he's this great person, and he's a great dad, and he's had a good life.
I mean, all these things, it was a big weight off my chest knowing that, um, because obviously, I was given up for adoption, you know, to have a better life, so learning that he's also had a good life was, a huge relief, and I'm just looking forward to spending more time with him and just continuing to build our relationship.
♪ Woman: Come on Reagan, pull it out, what do you got?
- I don't know if there's a card.
Woman: Well start pulling it out.
Dan: In New Mexico, Layton is getting ready to surprise her younger sister, Reagan, at her birthday party.
Layton: Kyle and I were snuck into this back patio area and we were waiting behind this gate to the backyard.
- Oh there was a card.
It was just in-- All: [laugh] Layton: I mean, we could hear what was going on, we could hear Reagan opening gifts, and we could hear people laughing, and-- Man: We have a couple more presents for you, but we're gonna hold off.
- Okay.
Man: 'Kay?
We got a really, really big one.
Your mom has worked really hard on this.
Shari: Yes, hon.
Layton: And then, it was just dead silent, everybody was like, "Hold on Reagan, like another few seconds."
Man: Don't move, 'kay?
- Okay.
Man: Are you ready, babe?
Shari: You ready?
Ready Reagan?
- Yeah.
Man: Happy birthday.
- Hi Reagan.
- Hi.
- I am your sister Layton.
Can I have a hug?
Shari: [laughs] ♪ Shari: Watching Layton and Reagan meet was super fun.
A little girl getting her dream come true.
- Mm-hm.
Layton: I love your shirt.
- Thank you.
Layton: Aw, I feel like I'm looking at a mirror, that's so weird.
Shari: I told you!
Reagan: [laughs] I'm just really glad I got to meet her after all these years of not knowing who she is and like, finally getting to meet her.
I was like, oh, this is really happening.
Like I was gonna pinch myself and think it's a dream.
I love it.
- So far.
- So far, I mean.
All: [laugh] - I mean, next year how are you gonna top this?
- It probably is.
Layton: The whole emotion that I get from the past few days is just, I feel like a circle is being completed, and they're welcoming me with open arms.
It's been really great.
♪ Dan: In New Mexico, Layton is getting to know her new little sister, Reagan, and comparing some special photos of when they were both younger.
- We're very, very similar, especially the nose.
Reagan: Yes.
That's cute, I like that.
That's cute.
Layton: Not as cute as you, 'cause you're still a kid but... - You're still cute.
Layton: Reagan was showing me pictures of her growing up, and then I was showing her pictures of me growing up, and it was just incredible and shocking to see how similar we looked at the same age.
It's just cool, you can definitely tell we're sisters.
- Definitely.
- Just a big age difference.
- Just a big age difference.
I see how she looks like me as, uh, her old, younger self when she was ten.
Uh, we look a lot alike.
I'm just really glad I got to meet her.
Layton: Being an older sibling is something that's really important.
I always looked up and talked to my older siblings, and, now it's time for me to take on that role.
[sustained piano note] Dan: As Day 6 comes to a close, a strike looms for one of our teams.
Teams Red, Blue, and Black all have a single strike, but a third strike for Team Green would end their race for the $50,000.
- I'm nervous today that we might get our third strike.
Layton: With how today has gone, it really doesn't matter what happens in terms of ranking on the video call.
Nothing's gonna take away from the good feelings of today.
Tiffani: Going in this call tonight, we are a little nervous, but the thing about this race is, you never know how the other teams did.
Karim: With everybody having at least one strike right now, it's game on.
♪ [mouse click] Dan: It's the end of Day 6, and I'm eager to see what you have to say about the day, but most importantly to find out who you met at the end of it all.
And, I wanna start with Team Black.
I got one very important question: where's the chicken?
[record scratch] - You broke your chicken.
[rubber chicken squawk] Both: [laughing] - The chicken is, we're trying to figure out how to tape it to our antennae on the car.
- We're trying to be a little bit more creative.
- Anytime I think of the chicken I just smile, so.
Kyle: I-it's not gonna be the last time you see him Dan, I promise.
- More chicken sightings to come apparently.
So we get to a challenge that I thought would be really fun and potentially challenging, and Karim, I love fruit and yogurt parfaits.
But I don't like mustard in my parfaits.
[mischievous music] - I never had a parfait before.
So, 'Chelle's just throwing everything, mustard spills on the table, I'm like, just rake it up in there, I'm, I'm gonna just eat it all.
Dan: I will now ask my closest restaurant, "Could you add a little mustard to my parfait please?"
Both: [giggle] - Well, we always talk about the ups and downs of the days, but we always bring it to the most important part of the day.
Let's forget the challenge, let's forget the struggles, and let's now focus on family.
Tiffani, who did you meet.
- I got to meet my cousin Gina, on my dad's side.
- Hi.
- I walk up to the door and there is this beautiful woman standing there, I was like, "There's no way she's related to me, she's got to be related to my husband."
But she's mine, she's mine.
- It was awesome, had a great time together.
- Yes, it was so relaxing, so chill, and honestly after this week, I needed it.
So it was, it's been beautiful.
Dan: Angie, this journey has been all about you, and you had this amazing sister-in-law in Kelly that has supported you every step of the way, and as you've made your way to another home, who was waiting for you?
- So today, I met my brother Bobby, and he's my only sibling on my mom's side.
- How you doing guys?
Nice to meet you.
- And he's awesome, we've had so much fun today, we got to go on a boat ride and see dolphins, and it was really fun.
We had a fun day.
- He looks exactly like you.
- Yeah, he does.
[laughs] Yeah.
I knew the minute I saw him, I was like, this, 'cause he's about my age, he's actually younger than me, he's my younger brother, um, but I was like, this, he's my brother, I knew it right away when I saw him.
- Rachelle, Karim, what a great adventure that you've had so far, including a surprise for Karim, but who was surprised today?
- So today, I met my brother.
- Hey, hey, hey.
How y'all doing?
- What is this handsome man's name?
- This is Keon everybody.
- Hey.
Dan: Keon, so nice to see you.
- You too, good to be seen.
How are y'all doing?
Dan: Good.
Again, do you know that you and your sister have the exact same noses?
- Yes man.
- Yes, it's the Simpson nose.
Both: [laugh] - You guys almost laugh alike too, that's just uncanny, it really is.
It's wonderful to see you Keon, thanks for being here.
- No problem.
- I didn't know I had a brother so, it's so exciting to have a brother figure in my life now.
Dan: Well that leads us to Kyle and Layton, Team Black.
When you got to the door, Layton, there wasn't one surprise, there was more than one.
Tell us what happened.
- So today, I met my biological mother, Shari.
And not only did I meet Shari, I met my little sister, Reagan.
Here, bend down.
Dan: Oh my word, what a beautiful picture that is.
- And it's also Reagan's birthday today.
- Happy birthday.
Jose: Happy birthday.
Dan: Wait a minute, how old is Reagan?
- I am ten.
I was actually really happy I got to meet her today.
I didn't know I was gonna meet her today though, so, just, I was really surprised.
- Well, you got a big sister and the way I see her looking at you, I think you've got a big sister that loves you.
- Yes.
Dan: Oh, that's amazing.
Shari: It's a little scary how similar we are though.
- Extremely similar.
- It's a little scary.
- Reagan's down there going.
- Yeah.
Dan: This is what this show is all about, and it's been a wonderful journey for all of you.
But, will that journey continue?
♪ Dan: We are six days in, with four days more to go, and now is the time to find out who picks up this strike at the end of Day 6.
One team did incredibly well, finishing only 9 minutes over their allotted time.
This team will get the first-place prize, of a five minute video call with anyone of their choice.
And I'm sure all of you would like to have that right about now.

Team Green, you navigated your way to the challenge almost flawlessly, but from there it went downhill.
One team finished 28 minutes over their allotted time.
The other team finished 35 minutes over their allotted time.
Finishing 28 minutes over their allotted time, and safe on this day... ...is Team Red.
Team Green, what a journey you've had.
You finished 35 minutes over your allotted time, and so your race for the $50,000 has come to an end.
- We saw it coming.
Yeah, you guys are all great competitors, you really are.
Angela: Yeah, this, I mean, this was a wonderful experience.
I got a lot of answers, um, I know I'm gonna get more, continue to get more answers, and I got to meet great people and see awesome things, and it was an amazing experience and, you know, we did everything we could, we tried our best, and you guys are all just, really awesome.
[laughs] So, thank you for this experience.
Dan: Angie and Kelly, you have picked up your third strike, and that means your race for the $50,000 is over, but, your journey to meet family continues because of this.
Your golden ticket is in your backpack, and this gives you one more day to find family.
And I can tell you this, you have family waiting for you.
- We love you, ladies, we connected and we're always gonna keep in touch with you.
- Girls, we are gonna miss you so much.
We bonded with you immediately, and we are gonna miss both of your smiles.
- We started this journey with four teams, and the math makes it impossible to end up that way, and so we say goodbye to Team Green.
But for Team Red, Team Blue, and Team Black, your journeys begin again tomorrow morning, when we start Day 7 of Relative Race.

That, that, that, that hurts.
- Knowing that we are no longer in the competition for the $50,000, it's unfortunate, but we get to meet one more relative tomorrow, and I'm hoping that it's my mom.
