Emotions ran high as Angela and Rachelle both found new brothers.
Angela: You're my-- - Your brother.
- [laughing] Yes.
It's nice to meet you.
Bobby: It's good to meet you.
Dan: Tiffani discovered a cousin with pioneer roots.
- The family lived in this covered wagon.
- It just reminds us how lucky we are.
Dan: Layton met her mother, Sheri.
- Yes, I am your mom.
[sniffling] Dan: And gave Layton's sister the best birthday present ever.
Man #1: Happy birthday!
Layton: I am your sister, Layton.
♪ Dan: But in the results, one team did incredibly well.
Team Blue snagged the first place prize.
This team will get a five-minute video call with anyone of their choice.
- I definitely wanna call my kids.
Dan: And with their third strike, Team Green was eliminated.
Your race for the $50,000 is over, but this gives you one more day to find family.
- We get to meet one more relative tomorrow and I'm hoping that it's my mom.
Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing-- - Woo!
- Here we go!
[car revving] Dan: To win $50,000-- - We're here!
We made it!
Dan: And to find their family.
[knocking] ♪ Another morning rises over Relative Race, but Team Green's elimination comes with an increase of competition.
Jose: Coming into this day, Day 7, after third and after a strike, we really have to pick it up a notch, you know.
We have three teams left, so it's gonna be that much more competitive.
Rachelle: We're starting off the day on an equal playing field with all the other teams; we all have one strike, there's no advantages, so it's really time to lock in and do great today.
Layton: We only have the one strike, but that's still time to go home before Day 10.
Dan: All three remaining teams are fighting for first, as they prepare for Day 7.
Team Red is starting in Bakersfield, California, Team Black begins in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Team Blue is in Forest Park, Georgia, where they prepare to use their video call prize after coming in first place yesterday.
[FaceTime ringing] Karim: Hey Boog!
Boog: Hi!
- How you doin'?
Boog: Good.
Karim: I miss you guys, man.
- I miss you.
Boog: I miss you!
Karim: Getting first place, I was able to FaceTime my kids and it really felt good.
Boy #1: How have you been?
- I've been good, man.
I, um, I'm in, I'm in Georgia right now with Rachelle.
Boy #1: Oh.
- I, I'll tell y'all all about it once we finish.
Just seein' their faces and their, their smiles, it'll definitely get me juiced up again.
- I miss you.
Boog: Talk to you soon.
- Yes.
Be good, Booger.
Be good, Jay.
[mwah] Rachelle: This morning, I got to have a special moment with my brother to remember his mother, Michelle, who had passed.
- I got to meet my sister on the anniversary date that my mother passed and today we took a moment and we let a balloon pass in remembrance of my mother.
Rachelle: Me and Keon let off the balloon.
It just seemed really special and touching and I felt really close to him in that moment.
♪ [zing] Tiffani: This morning, we wake up with my cousin, Gina, and it's very heartwarming.
Gina: Tiffani, it was so nice to be able to spend the evening with you and your husband and get to know you better.
- Yes, likewise, it has been amazing.
I can not believe all the similarities we have, it's almost been overwhelming.
Gina: So, I have something that I wanna share with you.
Um, this blanket here, my grandmother made, Grandma Ethel, and it's actually made out of all of her clothing.
And this was typical of what our grandmothers, Leonna and Ethel, would have done to try to stay warm in that covered wagon.
- Wow, this is so neat and to look back and, and to have those memories and say, I remember that outfit because I remember the same thing with my grandmother.
It's such a, such a great, great idea.
Gina, she shares this blanket that she has of her grandmother's personal clothing that was made into a quilt.
To hold something physical, it really, really connects you.
It, it makes it more real.
I'm totally stealing the idea.
We're totally doing that.
Oh, thank you so, so much.
♪ [zing] - I wanna put my arm around you.
- I'm so glad you found me too.
- Get in there.
Sheri: And that one.
- I'll get in there.
Reagan: [giggling] Layton: This morning, my biological mom, Sheri, and my sister, Reagan, took us to this overlook of the entire city of Albuquerque and it was just a nice, relaxing time to spend together.
I'm glad I could surprise you for your birthday.
- I am too.
- It's been great, guys.
It's so funny seeing you guys just kinda act on like banter against each other already.
It's like, you guys are already a family.
It's like, jeez.
- 'Cause we are.
- Yeah, you are.
- I was like, literally.
- We're related.
[laughter] - As sad as it is to leave right now, I'm more so looking forward than looking back at the time we spent together for this one day because I have Reagan's phone number, I'll be able to talk to her.
I've definitely connected with the biological family members that I've met.
♪ [zing] Dan: In Savannah, Georgia, Team Green may be out of the race, but their golden ticket will allow them to meet one final relative, which means they'll need to say goodbye to Angie's brother, Bobby.
- It was really wonderful to finally get to meet you.
I'm so glad.
It's been a long time in coming.
- Yeah.
- And you know, I can't wait to build the, the brother-sister relationship from here on out, so.
- Yeah, definitely.
- Glad it happened.
- Yeah, it's, it's wild, like you've known about me forever and I've known about you for like just-- Both: A few days.
- And... - That is crazy.
We're all excited too.
I'm glad you got to meet who you met so far, so...
It's only going to get better anyway, so, you know.
- It was a relaxing morning, we weren't in the race anymore, so we came down to this park.
It's just so neat here and we just got to spend a little more time with Bobby before we have to leave.
[text notification] - Hold on, hold on.
- Oh, did we get a text message?
Kelly: We were sitting on a bench and the phone goes off and I'm surprised 'cause I thought we were done with that phone, I was hoping we were done with that phone.
- Good morning team.
While your race for $50,000 has ended, you still have one more relative to see.
Your relative lives in St. Petersburg, Florida.
- Ah, okay.
- So we are going south.
- So I was right, we're still going down further south.
- Well, we're not on, we're not on the clock.
- Yeah, we can kinda take our time and leave, but we do have to leave 'cause we wanna get there and see who's waiting for us, so... - Well, it was good seein' you guys.
It was very nice meeting you two.
Angela: It's, it's hard to say goodbye to Bobby, we really enjoyed being here with him, but we'll get back together, we'll see each other again.
Bobby: It's nice seeing you.
Can't wait to see you again, can't wait to see you again.

Angela: [laughing] - I'm glad to see you guys.

[music ends] [zing] [text notification] Karim: Got a text from Dan.
- Oh.
Kyle: Let's see what Dan has to say.
Jose: Good morning teams and welcome to Day 7 of Relative Race.
- Team Blue will be traveling to Social Circle, Georgia-- - Team Black will be traveling to Taos, New Mexico.
- Okay.
- And Team Red will be traveling to Palm Desert, California.
- Today's first place winner will be moved up one spot-- - From wherever you finish tomorrow.
- What?!
- Your time starts now.
- Ah, we gotta go, we gotta go!
- Today's prize is huge.
- Whoever wins today will go to Day 10 because the prize is basically immunity and with the current strike count, all we need is one day of immunity.
- That's a big one.
- That's a good one.
All right, hey, we're gonna get out.
Tiffani: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I love you.
I can't wait to see you again.
Rachelle: Thank you, Keon.
Karim: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Tiffani: I'll drive?
Jose: Yeah, go ahead, you drive, you drive.
Karim: Open the trunk and I'll put 'em in, open the trunk, I'll put 'em in.
Kyle: Better hurry!
Layton, we're still on the clock.
- Seatbelts, seatbelts, seatbelts!
[intense music] Kyle: See, this is why people are beating us.
- Well, I can see now.
Kyle: When you go to fix the trunk.
[laughs] Layton: I can see now.
[music intensifies] [zing] Layton: So we have to go up past Santa Fe again?
- Yeah, we gotta go back on the road that we came in on.
Layton: I mean, we came from that way, shouldn't we just go back that way to get onto-- - No, we need to go that way.
Layton: Getting out of Albuquerque was a little difficult just because it was a bigger city than we've been in the past few days.
Layton: We're on... Kyle: I need a main street.
- Okay, then I'm gonna go right.
- Okay, sounds good.
- Oh no.
- Oh.
Police coming, police coming, police coming, police coming.
We turned onto 20 and it is bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Oh man.
Rachelle: What?
Karim: Oh shoot.
The high, the highway's shut down.
- Going through the smaller streets was a little bit more difficult because we only had the basic state map.
- No, you gotta turn around.
So, there was a lot of places where you would take a right, all the sudden you'd find a dead end.
I hate New Mexico.
It makes no sense to me.
[sirens blaring] - See any alternates?
- Uh, nothing looks like it's parallel.
Karim: So, I know this is affecting our time, but I can only think about the people that were in the accident and my heart goes out to them.
Layton: Are we lost?
It kinda just got us in this neighborhood now.
- Then it was one right turn after another and then we finally ended up on the 25, which finally took us out of town to Taos.
- Okay.
♪ Dan: While teams Black and Blue lose time right off the bat, Team Red cruises by one of Tiffani's greatest fears.
Jose: Babe, we're in Valencia.
You know what's in Valencia, right?
- Six Flags.
- Maybe our challenge is in there.
- Nope, because if you wanna see me really cry... [laughs] ♪ I wanna go [indistinct]!
♪ Dan: Tiffani is happy to leave the rollercoasters in her rearview mirror, as they drive to Palm Desert, California.
They'll have to complete a challenge, hopefully without a rollercoaster, and reach their relative in an allotted time of 3 hours and 33 minutes.
[banjo music] Kyle: Where's the chicken?!
Chicken?!
[laughs] The chicken has returned.
[loud cluck] - We had to get a new chicken because our last chicken kinda had an accident.
[clucking] You broke your chicken!
[laughs] [banjo music] [clucking] Ha hah!
But we still put the broken chicken to good use.
[cluck] We have successfully mounted the yellow remnants of our chicken to the car.
- We're the "Chickmobile."
Kyle: The "Chickmobile."
The Chickmobile!
The black Chickmobile.
Oh yeah.
Dan: Team Black's "Chickmobile" is traveling to Taos, New Mexico today and has an allotted time of 2 hours and 21 minutes, but knowing this chicken, if he can get a "head," he'll cut his time in half.
[anxious music] - I hope this doesn't cost us too much.
Karim: So, I step outta the car and I look ahead and no cars are movin', it looks like it's an accident.
- This traffic makes me sleepy, ugh.
- Take a nap.
[lullaby music] - Thanks, cousin.
Love you.
[mwah] Dan: Team Blue takes a quick nap break on their way to Social Circle, Georgia.
They have an allotted time, not including the nap, of 50 minutes.
Karim: So finally, after several loong minutes, they clear the road up and we get on our way.
[lullaby music ends] ♪ Dan: With a long drive on the horizon, thoughts start turning towards Team Green.
- Makes me sad that there's only three teams.
Kyle: Me too.
I wonder how Team Green's doing.
- I hope she gets to meet a parent.
Let's send Team Green a message.
Rachelle: So, what do we wanna send?
Love you, Team Green.
- Absolutely.
- Let's tell 'em that we love them, that we're thinking of them.
- With Team Green out of the race, we're really missing 'em.
- We're all starting to feel like family here on the show and with Team Green missing, it's like somebody from the family is missing.
- We definitely wanna wish Team Green well and make sure that they know that they are gonna be missed.
[text notification] Angela: They said... - Aw.
- Aw.
It was a group text, so everyone's on this.
Kelly: Aw.
[text notification] Rachelle: Oh, it's from Green!
They said... - Oh, so wonderful.
Team Green, huge-- - Thank you, golden ticket.
- Oh, yes.
- And they did it with a green heart and a red heart and a blue heart.
[disc scratch] [upbeat music plays] - No black heart... sad face.
- Team Green sent out all the colors except for black.
Jose: So, we decided to play it up and let Black know that we think it's a sign.
[text notification] - She smiles, says there's no black heart.
[laughs] - Thank you.
- Okay Team Red, well-played, but game on.
- And I'm sure they've figured out by now there is no black heart.
Angela: [chuckling] Yeah, everyone realizes that at this point.
[music ends] [zing] Jose: What's in Palm Desert, babe?
- I have no idea.
- We grew up about an hour, hour and a half from there.
- Yeah.
Jose: South of there.
- Yeah.
- As far as I know, I don't have family there.
- Never know.
- We've known each other pretty much since, like for as long as I can remember.
Tiffani: We met when we were five.
Jose: Five.
I remember her, you know, as a child and growing up in grade school, I remember her.
[nostalgic music] We kind of went our own ways and you know, our own path in life.
♪ Tiffani: We both had marriages that, that ended.
Ended up reaching out to each other and-- Both: reconnected.
♪ Tiffani: So, Jose's a very tough guy.
He's mentally and physically very strong, he's kind of my rock.
He pushes me to be a stronger, better person.
Jose: The things I love about Tiffani is obviously her sense of humor and we just complement each other perfectly.
♪ Tiffani: My parents were very busy and we, having the large family that we had, actually had a live-in nanny and she taught us the traditions of Mexican culture.
So, I'm very familiar with the customs and the cultures for his family, and so-- Jose: 'Cause she fit right in.
Tiffani: I fit right in.
Jose: Yeah, it was, it was, it was great to see.
I love it.
[music ends] [zing] [whoosh] Dan: Teams are approaching their destination cities.
- Okay, I'm gonna slow down here, tell me where to go.
Dan: Which can only mean one thing... Karim: We in the city limits now, let's find it.
Dan: It's selfie time.
- There we go.
- Whatchu see, whatchu see?
- Slow down.
Tiffani: Look over here to see if there's uh, Palm Desert signs.
- There's one right there, "Downtown Social."
Tiffani: "Palm Desert", right here!
The green sign, the green sign!
- That sign says, "Taos County."
- Beautiful!
Take that one.
- All right, the camera is ready.
Tiffani: We'll just pull in right over there.
[door opens] Karim: Let's go, let's go!
Tiffani: Good job, baby get in there.
Kyle: Ready?
[rock music] Rachelle: Okay.
Layton: Where is it?
Kyle: Right there.
Jose: Ready?
One, two, three.
[camera shutters] [camera shutters] [camera shutters] [chicken clucks] [music ends] [zing] [text notification] [rock music] [text notification] - All right.
Welcome to Social Circle.
- Your first challenge is located at-- - 325 Red River Road.
Kyle: Go, go, go!
Karim: I think we passed that.
Rachelle: Let's go!
Tiffani: I'll drive, I'll drive, I'll drive, I'll drive!
- [grunts] - None of this was here when I lived here.
- And I just hope our challenge is not outside today.
- Right there.
Tiffani: Wanna get out and run?
Jose: [quietly] Let's go, let's go.
♪ Layton: Well, looks like baseball.
- Your challenge is three strikes and you're out.
Jose: Go, go, go, go!
[pipe organ plays] Dan: The challenge for Day 7 is Using a pitching machine, one teammate will launch baseballs 75 feet through the air to their partner.
Once a baseball is caught, they must stay behind second base and attempt to knock six milk jugs off the table, halfway between home plate.
Or, they may attempt to knock down the single milk jug located at home plate to complete the challenge in one throw.
[pipe organs stops] - I catch, you shoot 'em, all right?
- Okay.
- I launch first, you go out there?
Kyle: Sounds good.
- Let me know when you're ready!
- Go, go, go!
We see the baseball diamond-- Go!
--and I, I wasn't worried at all.
Tiffani: We're pretty good.
[fwip] Tiffani: Nice!
Jose: We didn't get Most Athletic in high school for nothing.
[camera shutters] [whoosh] - It's true.
- [laughs] - Are you ready?
Karim: Yeah, yeah, go.
Neither one of us play baseball.
[music dissipates] So, this might be strike two.
Tiffani: Second base, right here, second base, second base!
Jose: After the first catch, I go for that home run plate.
Tiffani: Oh.
- [grunts] Agh!
No.
I knew I was off, and, I didn't want to waste any more time.
So after, we just went for the regular jugs.
Tiffani: Nice!
♪ Layton: Ready?
Kyle: Ready.
Baseball's really not our thing.
- We don't play ball.
- But, I'm thinkin' that it can't be too hard, right?
Gimme a ball.
♪ Got it!
Layton: Okay.
- [grunts] WOO!
Let's go!
First ball, just zeroed in and straight on into that milk jug, knocked it right off the far post, and we were done.
- Your relative lives at 218 Valverde Street.
Kyle: Beautiful!
We were outta there as fast as we possibly could.
I like to throw baseballs.
Apparently, it's one of my new pastimes.
Layton: Challenge over, 16 seconds flat, all 'cause of him.
- [laughs] ♪ [circus-style march] ♪ Karim: Startin' off, I'm tryin' to catch, and I, I'm just praying because it's been a long time.
Uh!
Rachelle: Woo!
Karim: So I finally catch my first one, and I'm like, maybe it'll come back a little bit.
[instrumental flourish] Rachelle: Very good!
- Go, go, go, ready, ready, ready?
Jose: Hold on, babe!
We gotta wait 'til I get back!
Tiffani: Nice!
Jose: I was right on target, and the jugs fall down.
- But we have to swap every five balls so now it's my turn to catch.
I have to, we have to switch, we have to switch!
Jose: Yeah, five, right?
Five.
- Switch real quick.
Rachelle: Switch, all right.
So we switch, and now it's my time to catch the balls.
Ah!
Ugh!
Karim: Right there, right there!
Rachelle: [grunts] Karim: You all right?
Jose: Good job, baby.
Ready?
Tiffani: Ugh!
Jose: Little high, little high.
Tiffani: Too high!
My first round, I didn't do too well.
Ah!
Jose: It's fine, go, go, go, go, come on!
Yeah, you missed a few of them, but... - Yeah, I missed all of them!
Ah!
Ah!
Jose: Come on, baby, you gotta get closer!
Karim: Oh, you got it!
Ugh!
So close, it's all right.
- Okay!
I'm starting to feel a little frustrated because I don't know how to catch a baseball, so I'm a little scared.
[grunts] - And then switch, switch, switch.
Rachelle: Okay.
[electric guitar riff] [echoey thud] Robotic voice: Well, I must say, that's great.
♪ [clunk] Robotic voice: I must say.
I must say.
I must say.
♪ Well I must, w-w-w-w-w-- That's great.
- He and I like to play sports a lot, so it was kind of like we were just hangin' out at a park.
Nice!
- I just kept pegging those jugs one by one, and I left the last one for Tiffani.
Tiffani: Here I go.
Jose: There you go!
Don't rush it, babe.
Yeah!
Tiffani: Yeah!
I knocked down the final jug, and we're outta here.
Jose: Your relative lives at 26 Cypress Road.
Tiffani: Let's go, let's go!
This way.
[tense music] Kyle: Come on, baby, give me something, give me something, give me somethin', get me somethin'.
Tiffani: I'm gonna ask everybody.
- Yeah.
We finish the challenge, we get the address, and we start looking for our relative's address.
- Hey, do you know where, um, North Cypress Road is?
No?
Jose: And that did not go exactly how we wanted it to go.
Layton: I would turn left...?
Kyle: Left?
Layton: Yeah, because if we're here, Civic Plaza Drive, go that way, it's that way.
I think.
- I trust you.
- Luckily, we found a map at the baseball field, and I took a picture of it with our camera.
Kyle: This takes us down, I think that's too far.
- Oh, we need to turn around.
- Need to turn around?
Layton: Um...
Wait, maybe?
I don't know.
But the only problem with the camera is how small the screen is.
- We couldn't find a map anywhere.
- I knew we should have stopped and figured out where we could get a map.
- And everybody we asked did not know or they were tourists in the area, so they, they couldn't help.
- Do you know where North Cypress Road is?
- You know where Cypress Road is?
- Know where Cypress Road is?
North Cypress Road?
- Keep goin' straight.
- You've got it.
Layton: Yeah, and then it curves right here, and then we're on Valverde, I'm pretty sure.
- Valverde.
And it's gonna be right around here.
Layton: Yeah.
Even though it was hard to see, I mean, we got exactly to where we needed to go with that camera map.
Kyle: Two hundred what?
Layton: 218.
Keep goin'.
- Mmm!
[banging] - You break, you buy.
Kyle: Take a left, take a left, take a left.
Beautiful!
Park right next to it, right in that gravel pit.
Rachelle: Hold on.
Okay!
Karim: Almost, almost!
That's it, that's it!
Rachelle: [frustrated grunt] So I don't really know how to work the glove or even use it, so, like, I'm putting it up, but not really opening it correctly.
It's a struggle.
Karim: Switch!
Rachelle: Okay.
Karim: Oh.
Rachelle: You got it!
- Ah!
Hah!
I've thrown this ball more times than a pitcher warms up.
Oh, shoot!
And I'm, I'm still strugglin'.
Rachelle: Let, let's switch.
Karim: You got it, get it, get it!
- Ugh!
Karim: That one, right there, that's you, that's you!
- [grunts] Karim: You all right?
You all right?
- Yeah, it hit me.
And then one hits me in the mouth, and I lose all confidence.
Karim: It hit your mouth?
It hit your tooth?
Oh, you bleedin' a little.
Rachelle: Is it gone?
So I'm feelin' in my mouth trying to make sure I didn't lose a tooth or anything.
Karim: And then I'm like, after the ball hit 'Chelles, I'm just gonna have to go for the one on home plate.
- Let me know you ready, ready?
Karim: Sure, go ahead.
Rachelle: Good job.
Get a little closer if you need, do what you need, you got it.
Almost, almost!
That was good, I'm throwing' another one!
♪ [clunk] Woo!
When Karim finally hits home plate, I am so excited, and I just run up and give him a big hug.
- Your relative lives at-- Both: 2485 Tarrenton Lane.
Let's go.
- The next time I see baseball, I'd better be at the game watchin' it.
♪ - [whispers] I'll do it.
All right.
Our dear, kind, Heavenly Father... Layton: This whole journey has been amazing, and we just feel like we need to offer a prayer of gratitude before we go in and meet our next relative.
- Yeah.
I hope that as we meet either Layton's family, or whoever we meet, I hope that we may be able to be excited, and more than anything, be able to express our love and appreciation for them to invite us into their homes once.
Layton: Everybody's individual situation is so unique and different, and it's impossible to know exactly how someone feels, but God knows, and He's such an important part as to why I'm doing this and why we decided to do this together.
We just give thanks, and this we pray in the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, amen.
- Amen.
[sniffs] Layton: Tissue?
- A tissue would be great.
Layton: After we compose ourselves, we get out of the car, and we see an older gentleman walking out of the front door of the house.
♪ - Hello.
Layton: Hi!
Kyle: Hey, how's it goin'?
Man: Hi!
I'm your uncle.
I'm Shawn.
Kyle and Layton: No, Shawn!
Layton: Okay!
Kyle: Nice to meet you, this is Layton.
Shawn: [laughs] It's nice to meet you.
Layton: You, too.
Shawn: You're beautiful.
My name is Shawn McLeod, I am Layton's uncle.
My brother, Bryon, is her biological father.
I'm so excited!
I'm so happy to see you, I'm so, I'm so happy you did this!
- Yes.
Shawn: [laughs] - I was like, it was very coincidental how this all came about-- - Yeah.
It's very, very, very cool, and I'm glad you got the letters that your, your dad sent, and the pictures, and, you know, he tried, he tried to keep in touch.
He really did.
Bryon is very, very, very dedicated, um, he loves you to no end.

Layton: It was really special to meet my biological uncle, Shawn, today.
And just from the photos I have of my biological dad, it's very easy to see the similarities the two share.
Shawn: I was overseas when you were born.
Layton: Okay.
- I was already in the Marine Corps, I was gone.
- Okay.
Shawn: And, uh, when he joined, we both got stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Car- North Carolina.
Kyle: Oh, really?
Layton: Okay.
- Yeah, yeah.
We were both there.
Layton: It means a lot to me that Shawn served in the military just like my biological father.
It's just something very unique and important when somebody sacrifices their own life to serve their country.
Shawn: I was a sniper, your dad was heavy guns.
- Okay.
- So he was shootin', like, the big stuff.
How would you guys feel about goin' out and shootin' long range?
Kyle: Oh, I would-- Layton: Absolutely.
- I would love to go shoot some guns with ya.
Yeah.
Uncle Shawn is taking us shooting!
Yes!
This is right up my alley.
Layton: I can't wait.
Shawn: All right!
Let's do this!
♪ Karim: Uh, I think we should go right?
- Yeah.
Jose: I feel so stupid, babe.
- I know, but what are, like, how are we gonna navigate without a city map?
- What you see, what you see?
- That's a dead end.
This is a really small town, so I assumed we would just run into Torrington Lane.
- I think we, I think we passed it.
- It has to be in a neighborhood, yeah.
- It's a, it's a lane.
Rachelle: But, that didn't happen, so now we've gotta find some help.
Tiffani: Let's go, let's go.
Jose: I wanna go in there!
Tiffani: Let's go, let's go, let's go!
If we get-- it's a gated community!
Jose: Ninety percent of the neighborhoods are all gated, so we can't even find anybody to help with, with the directions.
Tiffani: That's gated.
Ugh!
Jose: Yeah, I saw it was gated.
- Well, I didn't see it was gated!
- No, it was, I saw it.
Rachelle: Maybe ask that old man.
- Excuse me, sir.
Are you familiar with Torrington, Torrington Lane?
Luckily, we found some help at the one gas station in town.
Tiffani: I don't know.
I don't know.
Jose: I don't either, babe.
Karim: This one.
This one right here.
- Yeah.
- All right.
Oh, man!
- We are way off.
Tiffani: Yeah, if we're getting to downtown, we are way off.
- Oh!
- It'll be on your side, though.
Rachelle: Yeah.
- It'll be on your side.
Yeah, this is it right here.
Rachelle: Yep.
- This right here.
♪ Jose: Uh, baby!
Rachelle: Let's go.
Pulling up to our relative's house, we're just trying to shake off the rest of our day and just focus on who we're about to meet.
[tranquil music] Walking up to the front door, I see this woman come out the house, and, I'm just trying to figure out if or how we're related.
Karim: Hello.
Rachelle: Hi.
- My name's Karim, and this is my cousin, Rachelle.
- Hi.
My name is Teah.
Rachelle: Hi!
And who are you related to?
Teah: Well, Karim, I'm related to Rachelle.
- [laughs] And how are we related?
- [sighs] I'm your sister.
Rachelle: It's so nice to meet you.
Hearing the words, "I'm your sister," I was blown away because I didn't even know I had another sibling.
Teah: I'm Teah, and I am Rachelle's sister on her father's side.
As soon as I laid eyes on her, I've been waitin' to meet her, so to be held by her was a sense of relief.
- I'm so happy.
[laughs] So we're sisters on... - We share the same dad.
- Wow.
Hi, Teah.
- Hi!
Hi, family!
Karim: Hey!
How you doin'?
Teah: Good, how 'boutchu?
- I'm well, I'm well.
- And how old are you?
Teah: I'm 37.
Rachelle: Okay.
Karim: So you were the baby.
- I was the baby, till a few months ago.
- Wow.
Teah: When I found out about you.
They didn't think I would take it well.
They're like, "Oh, she's not gonna take that well," but I'm like, why wouldn't I?
I got another sister.
Finally glad to meet you.
Rachelle: I'm so glad to meet you, too.
♪ - Such a blessing.
Rachelle: It is, it is.
My family just keeps growing and it's, it's beautiful.
Teah: You know, I found out a little while ago I had a sister, but, I really had a sister once I'm able to put my hands around her, so, you know, it felt like, like, uh!
I'm being hugged by my little sister.
[sniffs] Heh.
It's so good to meet you.
[sniffs] ♪ Dan: Back in Palm Desert... - Do you wanna turn around?
Jose: [whispered] Yeah.
[spoken] Yeah.
Dan: Team Red is still desperately searching for their relative.
Tiffani: Well, we gotta find somewhere to, like-- - Okay.
- --get directions, though.
Jose: Okay.
We had no luck.
There were no stores, no gas stations in sight, and we just, we had no luck.
- What street is that?
Tiffani: We drive right past a street and realize, there wasn't even a street sign on the street, so we just blew right past it.
Was that it, back there, the one with no street sign?
Jose: Oh, my goodness!
Tiffani: Awesome.
- Yeah, great.
That's why we didn't find it!
Tiffani: Eventually, we figured out our mistake and ended up at our relative's house.
2694, right here.
Jose: [frustrated sigh] All right, I'm over it.
Tiffani: When we pulled up to our relative's house, we were both feeling really disappointed in ourselves.
Let's go.
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
Jose: Bottom line is to meet the family, obviously.
We don't wanna lose, but we just gotta build each other back up.
Tiffani: Hi!
Jose: Hello.
So we walk up, and I see a young lady and a woman.
I didn't think it was gonna be Tiffani's relatives.
I'm Jose.
- I'm Cindy.
Jose: Cindy.
- I'm Tiffani.
Cindy: Tiffani, nice to meet you.
- Hi, I'm Elizabeth.
Tiffani: Nice to meet you.
Jose: Uh, so whose relative are you?
Cindy: Yours.
- My relative?
Cindy: Yes.
How are we related?
Cindy: We're cousins, your mom's side.
Cindy: And I'm her daughter.
I am Cindy Luna.
- I am Elizabeth Luna.
- And we are Jose's cousins through his mom's side.
- Elizabeth knew my, yes, she knew my family, she knew my grandfather, she knew my great grandfather.
It's pretty neat to, to meet someone you've never met and they happen to know everything about your family.
- And it's so comforting because I have not seen him smile that much this whole trip.
This is the Jose I see around his family, so I knew he was immediately comfortable with them.
Jose: Wow!
Elizabeth: I know everybody from the family, yes.
Cindy: We know pretty much most of our family, so it was pretty interesting to know that I had someone, a relative that was so close this whole time, so it's pretty interesting.
- Jose is family.
He very happy, he excited, yeah, and I'm excited, too!
Jose: Wasn't expecting this.
Tiffani: Awesome, right?
- I was not expecting this.
I thought it was all about her.
- Nope.
- Yeah, yeah, 'cause all week.
- It's so exciting to meet family.
- Wow.
That's awesome.
Cindy: [laughs] Jose: Yeah.
[joyful music] ♪ Dan: In St. Petersburg, Florida, Team Green anxiously arrives at their final relative.
[calm piano music] Angie: We pull up to the house and I see this woman standing there, and as soon as I saw her, I knew for sure who it was.
♪ Hello.
- [sobs] Angie: So nice to meet you.
Woman: Nice to meet you.
Oh, it's been a long time.
- I know.
I've always wanted to meet you.
- I've always wanted to meet you.
- I never thought it would be like this, ever, but I've always wanted to meet you.
So I'm glad the moment's finally came.
Angela: Yes.
Woman: ♪ How I wish I could turn back time.
♪ ♪ Back to when I could call you mine.
♪ Barbara: I'm feeling... overwhelmed, nervous, blessed.
It's time for a new chapter in our life.
I've been waiting for this for 39 years.
- 39 years, yes.
- It's been a long time.
You've, you've grown, you know.
Angela: Yeah.
I grew up in a really, really happy family.
I had a great childhood.
[crying] Angela: So, um...
It's just like, yeah.
Woman: ♪ When it's dark and I'm feeling it, ♪ ♪ I'm breaking down and my heart is aching.
♪ Angela: She just, has loved me my whole life and, it's just a great, great moment.
Kelly: It was moving to see how she looked at her, and how she even moved faster to us, like she couldn't wait any longer.
Woman: ♪ Because you feel like home ♪ ♪ when I'm so homesick.
♪ Barbara: Well, I've been waiting for 39 years for this to happen.
When I finally got to hold her again, it was like, just a relief, like I can breathe again.
All those years, I was holding my breath, and just, all of a sudden it just released out.
I've just-- knowing that she's here is awesome.
It's still hard for me to even believe that she's here.
Angela: How long have you lived here?
Barbara: Okay, I moved down here in 1981 with your dad.
Do you want to know the story behind that?
- Mm-hm.
- Come on in, we got a lot to talk about.
♪ Dan: In the lonely deserts of New Mexico, Uncle Shawn targets a long-range activity with Team Black.
Layton: I'm super excited.
After meeting my Uncle Shawn, he took Kyle and I out to this gun range in the middle of nowhere New Mexico to go shooting.
- AR-15 right here.
- Okay.
- Easy, but this is gonna be a longer distance rifle.
Kyle: Sounds like fun.
Shawn: Yeah.
I was in the Marines for four years, '95 through '99.
When I was in sniper school, we shot a thousand-yard course every single day.
Layton: This training is a cakewalk considering what Shawn and my biological father went through, but it's nice to be able to meet him and then kind of share this passion.
Shawn: Find your target, and relax.
Exhale, and that's when you squeeze the trigger.
[gunshot] Kyle and Shawn: Nice.
[gunshot] Shawn: Nice.
Beautiful.
Layton: It was really fun.
I mean, I love to shoot, and it's a really fun activity.
Kyle: We're ready to go.
Shawn: Let's rock and roll.
[gunshot] - Nice.
[gunshot] Shawn: Right there.
♪ [gunshots] Shawn: It's been awesome, and Layton did great, she's definitely got the genes.
So happy and excited to have her a part of my life no matter what.
♪ Rachelle: Well Teah, I just can't wait for this relationship to continue to grow.
- Once I found out about you, I had to meet you.
Rachelle: Yes, and I'm so glad we got to meet.
♪ Teah: I'm grateful for not only Rachelle wanting to do this journey, I'm grateful-- It was good because she didn't know about us, and we didn't know about her, so it just felt good.
- You grew up with your mother-- - With my mom, yeah.
- And how often did you like see our father and hang out?
- All the time.
Rachelle: Okay.
- All the time.
My sister, my brother, we all got together constantly.
We stayed close.
Rachelle: How is our dad?
Like, can you describe him?
Teah: Very loving, definitely a fun dad.
Rachelle: Mm-hm.
Teah: I can't even remember seeing him mad like um... Rachelle: Really?
Teah: Really, that's his, his spirit, he's just a fun-loving spirit.
- Mmm.
That's beautiful.
Wow, wow.
Hearing Teah talk more about my father, it kind of rounds out who he is for me because I'm still trying to understand who my dad is, and that kind of gives me a big picture of who my dad is.
Teah: So, can I ask you about your adopted parents or family?
- Yeah, yeah yeah.
- Um, how was that?
- I grew up in a wonderful adopted family.
My mom, she adopted me at 10 days old, she supported me through everything I've ever brought to her that I wanted to do, and my entire adopted family has always been supportive and loving.
Teah: You know, sometimes it doesn't always go positive, you know.
Rachelle: Exactly, exactly.
Teah: So, I'm really glad that your family, [emotionally] was there for her.
Rachelle: Yes, yeah it was wonderful.
[exhales sharply] - But I wanted to, you know, I wanted to get to know you guys, 'cause that was something that I needed for myself.
- I'm just glad it was a positive, you know-- - Yes, yes, it was definitely-- - Experience for you.
- Yes, it was, it was.
And so... Rachelle: No, it's okay.
Teah: I didn't even expect to not be able to stop crying, but I couldn't because the emotion was just there.
It kind of just brought me down because she could've had a bad foster home, she could've been homeless, and then today I'm just glad that she had her family.
I'm just, I'm happy for her.
♪ [crying] - [emotionally] Didn't know you existed all this time.
We didn't find out about you until this-- not too long ago.
And I just hate that it was like that.
♪ [crying] ♪ When my sister Teah began to get emotional, I really got to comfort her and that was something that I haven't really got to do on this journey because for a while I've been the one being comforted and in retrospect it really showed me how much I've healed during this journey, and how much information I received that really brought peace to me, and I wanted to share that peace and calming energy with Teah.
Teah: I hate that you had to grow up without us but-- - I know.
- I'm glad I'm here too.
♪ ♪ Dan: Back in Palm Desert, Jose is still smiling about the new family roots that he's discovered.
- So, can I show you how we're connected?
- Yeah, of course, definitely.
Cindy and Elizabeth pull out this family tree document, and I knew only about half of those people.
- Oh, my goodness.
Cindy: It's very long.
Jose: [whispering] Benigno Franco and Rosita, wow.
[in normal voice] Yeah, so it is pretty neat like, all this side, I can follow all this side easily like, I know everybody here but, all this over here is new to me, and it's pretty exciting.
- Here's Benigno Franco, Rosita Montoya, that's them.
Jose: Can I see?
Tiffani: That is so cool.
- It's a very old picture.
Jose: Yeah yeah, yes.
I've never seen this picture, I've never seen them.
I only knew up to my grandparents.
Cindy: Mm-hm.
So the ancestors that were in the pictures were-- Elizabeth: Rosita Montoya and Benigno Franco.
Cindy: Which is how we're all connected together.
Jose: This is-- Cindy: That's how, that's where we all came from, right?
- That's where it started, that's where it all started, yeah.
Cindy: Yeah, it all started with them.
Jose: This has go be, babe, like late 1800s, early 1900s.
Tiffani: Right.
Elizabeth: It probably like 1800s, yeah.
Jose: Late 1800s?
- Yeah, late 1800s.
Jose: Yeah, yeah, wow.
- You can keep that.
- Really?
- Yes.
- Wow.
Cindy: I could tell it was very meaningful for him.
I could tell on his expressions he was excited.
He just couldn't believe like, how we were connected.
Jose: Where was this picture taken?
- Culiacán, Culiacán, Sinaloa.
- Oh, okay, yeah.
Elizabeth: I know family in Mexicali, the relatives with Jose, uncles and aunts.
- To know that there's a lot more out there that I'm related to, that's, that's pretty, pretty neat.
Cindy: So, we have an old recipe, from Otilia that she used to make.
- Okay.
Cindy: And the best beans you'll ever have.
[laughs] - I'm looking forward to that.
Tiffani: Yes.
♪ Jose: So then they prepared a meal which was a family recipe, handed down by her grandmother, and it kind of felt like I was back at home at my mom's growing up.
[food sizzling] Tiffani: I got the opportunity to help in the kitchen, and in his culture, that's where the women bond and connect.
It, it felt very much at home.
Jose: With everything that's happened this whole past week with Tiffani, and today, it was pretty important to give thanks, to just be grateful for everything that we have.
Elizabeth: Do you want salsa?
Jose: Oh, mm-hm, por favor.
See, it's so good.
Tiffani: Everyday that we've been on this trip, is a blessing.
We're not promised tomorrow, so we definitely give thanks for everything we have, everything we're going to have, and just the ability to do this together.
♪ Dan: After 39 years, Angie finally sits down with her mother, for the very first time.
Angela: So I mean, I was always told that I was adopted, I mean my-- I was told-- I've known, I've known my whole life, and the only thing that I ever knew was that you were just a teenager.
So, that's it, that's all I've ever known my whole life.
- Okay, so, back up to 1981, when I moved to Florida.
You know, I moved down here because me and Jim was dating in school, and I got pregnant with you.
I remember when I went into labor it was like 12 at night, and I had you at 4:25.
And then, when I was in the hospital, I got to see you for three days.
They didn't k-- you know, I got to hold you.
They gave me those three days to think about what I wanted to do.
I gave Angie up for adoption because, I was young, and at that time, I just didn't think that I could provide for her.
And um, one of the nurses actually, gave me a picture of you, and this is you.
- Aw.
Thank you.
♪ Angela: My biological mother showed me the photo and, yeah, it was just really emotional and, it just means that this person has cared about me, my whole life.
Barbara: That's the polaroid picture that the nurse gave to me, and... [cries] ♪ [emotionally] I have it on my dresser, so I could see you every day.
I'm so sorry.
♪ Barbara: I just think well, you know, I could've been there.
I wasn't.
♪ - So, every year, for your birthday, I posted it.
I posted the picture of you.
♪ [sniffs] In 2012 I started posting that polaroid picture of her and wishing her a happy birthday.
I kept them all this time hoping that one day I would be able to give it to her, and I just held on to them praying that this day would come, and I could give it to her.
♪ - I'm not sure what to say about this.
I'm so, I'm so like, I'm just so happy that you've always wanted to meet me and this is happening.
- Yep, thought of you every single day.
Wasn't a day gone by I didn't think about you.
And I was praying for this day to come.
I didn't know if I would ever be able to meet you, so.
And, I didn't want to pass and not get the chance to meet you so, very blessed this has happened.
♪ Dan: As Day 7 approaches its conclusion, our three remaining teams once again await the final results.
- No matter how bad we did today, I just hope we don't get that strike.
Kyle: We really messed up this morning.
- Yeah, we're really hoping that our performance today at the challenge saves us.
Rachelle: I don't know, today's feeling a little on the edge like-- - Yeah, I-- - We possibly may get a strike but, I don't know.
Karim: You got to meet your sister.
Rachelle: Exactly, so that's the blessing in that.
Jose: We're kinda worried, we had everything going our way up until we started looking for the address.
- As long as we don't get a strike today, we'll consider today as a win.
♪ [mouse click] Dan: Good evening everybody, we're seven days into the race, and for the first time we have three teams here instead of four.
And for Team Red, it seems that you finally figured out that Southern California traffic.
Tiffani: Yes, we only hit two construction zones today.
Dan: Well, unfortunately, that was not the case for Team Blue.
You guys got out flawlessly but then, there are these things that you simply can't control.
Sometimes it's construction, and in your case, it was much more serious.
- Yes, it was an accident.
And um, we weren't able to see it, but it was pretty serious.
Dan: While this doesn't help you in the race, you were really concerned about the people that were in that accident.
Karim: Correct.
Wherever we fall today is-- it's all right, as long as they were all right.
- Well, we'll talk about rest of your day in just a moment because for Team Black, you started in a metropolitan area, Albuquerque, and you didn't do so well.
- Yeah.
- Albuquerque's a lot bigger than we ever thought it would be, and running around New Mexico you never think about it.
You're like, oh, New Mexico, super small.
[chuckles] That's a lie.
- Nope.
♪ Dan: Um, Rachelle, you tried to catch a ball with your face.
♪ - You all right?
All: Oh.
- I didn't try, but it happened like that and that is why I have this nice little battle scar.
All: Ohh.
Kyle: Still beautiful, still beautiful.
- Looks like that hurts, how you doing?
- It's just a little swollen, it looks worse than it is.
- Karim and Rachelle, safe to say this wasn't your favorite challenge so far in the race?
Karim: It took us uh, a long time, but we, we finally got the one at home plate.
Dan: Well, speaking of getting the one at home plate.
Kyle tell them what happened with you and Layton at the challenge.
Kyle: First catch, threw it right at home plate and knocked it off.
[grunt] [metal clang] Kyle: Woooh!
Jose: What?
- Yeah.
- We were out there probably less than a minute.
- Good job buddy.
Kyle: Thanks you guys, it was pure luck, I promise.
- We will just see how kind Team Red and Team Blue are in texting you from now on.
[all laughing] - I already deleted them already Dan.
- Oh, already?
I knew it, I knew they were out.
Dan: So Team Black, you kill it at the challenge, you get to your relative, and who's there for you Layton?
- So, I was able to meet my uncle on my biological father's side.
- Yes.
- So this is Shawn.
- Hello.
Dan: This is your biological dad's brother.
Both: Yes.
Dan: Oh cool.
Layton: He and my biological dad were in the Marine Corps together, and so when we arrived we decided to go to a shooting range.
- Well, I also just want to thank your uncle for his service in all seriousness.
I'm deeply, always appreciative of anybody who serves in the military, so thank you.
Tiffani, this has been an emotional journey for you, but today you got to sit back and watch as your husband met new family.
- Yeah, so we pull up and I met, my cousin, Cindy.
Cindy: Hi.
Jose: And our common ancestor is our great-grandpa Benigno and Rosita Montoya.
And you look, picture from late 1800s.
- Wow.
Jose: So, that was, that was a trip to see.
- That's awesome, congratulations.
Team Blue.
Rachelle, you've had so many questions answered.
Did you get more answers tonight?
- I did get more answers tonight, I actually found out that I have another sister.
Jose: Oh wow, nice.
- Yes, and what's so crazy about this is that we grew up in the same county, like, she was down the street, like I know where she went to high school, she's familiar with where I went to high school, so it just reminded us of like, what a small world it is.
- Truly is.
Dan: Congratulations to all of you for once again, finding new family.
But now it's time to find out who finished in first, and who picks up the strike.
This was a close day.
With only 11 minutes separating first from third, and keep in mind the first-place prize is an important one.
Whoever finishes in first place today, will be able to move up one spot tomorrow.
If you finish in third, you'll move to second.
If you finish in second, you'll finish in first.
Who is the team that gets that very important prize?
Finishing 26 minutes over their allotted time, is Team Red.
Both: [gasp] Jose: Oh, wow.
- Oh, did not see that coming.
- Yeah.
We took first today, yeah.
Tiffani: Guaranteed to Day 10.
- Yeah, that really, really helped us out.
- Wow.
- That is a surprise.
- Softball helps.
♪ Dan: Well, softball does help, because finishing in second place, was Team Black, 33 minutes over their allotted time.
Team Blue, you finished 37 minutes over your allotted time, you have picked up your second strike on Relative Race.
Rachelle: We knew that we might be getting a strike today but, after finding my sister, how could I even be bothered by that like, it doesn't even matter, I have a sister.
- Team Blue, with two strikes, you need to be on your game tomorrow, and I'm sure Team Red and Team Black feel the exact same way.
And remember, family is waiting on the other side of the door for you tomorrow.

I was so scared we were gonna get third.
Shawn: You're okay.
- Well, Team Red's guaranteed to be there Day 10, but we can still make it.
Shawn: Yes, you can, no pressure.
- No pressure.
[Kyle laughing] - Yeah, I wasn't surprised.
- Not at all.
- Still a good day.
- It was.
- Absolutely.
