Jarrell got a double surprise when he met his sister... - So I actually do have another surprise for you.
Dan: ...and grandmother.
- Oh my gosh!
I got to see my grandbaby!
Dan: But in the end, it was Team Red that received their final strike.
Amauni: Jarrell met the family that he was missing.
He, everything he was searching for, he got it.
Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing... - Love you!
- Pedal to the metal.
Dan: ...to win $50,000... - Go, go!
Dan: ...and to find their family.
[knocking] Singer: ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh, ah ♪ ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh, ♪ ♪ ah Oh oh oh oh, ah ♪ ♪ Dan: It's Day 8 of Relative Race, and all four teams have made it seven long days on the road discovering new family, but today, only three teams remain racing for the chance to win $50,000 and be crowned Relative Race champion.
All teams are spread out hundreds of miles apart, with Teams Green and Black starting their day in Arizona.
- We got six first-place wins; we're goin' for number seven.
- We're guaranteed Day 10 with Team Blue, so we just gotta finish strong and bring it home.
- Yeah.
- We know from watching past seasons of Relative Race that teams with two strikes have gone all the way.
- Yeah, so we're in it to win it.
Dan: Team Blue, in Magee, Mississippi.
- The math is easy.
There's two days left, and we don't have a single strike.
That means we're goin' to Day 10, and we're not lettin' our foot off the gas.
Dan: And our eliminated team, Team Red, in Maysville, Kentucky.
As Jarrell and Amauni say goodbye to Jarrell's sister, Sierra, and grandmother, Victoria.
- Even though we got eliminated yesterday from the race, we had that golden ticket, and so we still get to see one more relative.
It's not a goodbye, it's a see you later.
- Definitely.
- This experience exceeded our expectations.
Jarrell gained his whole entire family.
I don't know what else we could have asked for.
I don't even...
I can't really put that into words.
That's kinda like a priceless, indescribable thing.

- All these surprises.
Y'all are killin' me!
- I carried this around for years, and it's yours.
When they brought you to my house, this is what they left me, and this is your blanket, and I've been carryin' it around for 27 years.
- Hm.
Victoria: It's your baby blanket.
You're welcome to do whatever you want, give it to the kids, anybody, but it's yours.
- Thank you.
It's... Victoria: You're welcome, baby.
- It's gonna stay in the family, for sure.
To me, havin' a physical thing to touch from back when I was an infant, it means that I was, I was loved, and I was cared about and still thought about to this day.
That just puts a special mark on my heart.
Granny, knowin' the fact that you kept this for 27 years because you...
I feel like that you knew in your heart that you would see me again, and you wanted to give this to me personally, and that means, you know, a lot more than, than anything.
- I, I love you, and I cherish this, and yesterday was the best day of my life.
I'd tell anybody.
- I'm glad, I'm glad I was able to, uh, put that smile on your face.
- Oh, I-I-I'm glad you was too, honey.
[phone notification] Jarrell: Ooo, we got a text.
Amauni: We got a text message!

- Today's different on Day 8 because we are not racing.
We are totally out of the race, but we still got the golden ticket to meet one more relative.
Jarrell: Our next relative is in Columbus, Ohio, and the crazy part is that's where I was born at, and I don't even know who would be there, but I'm comin' home.
♪ - Good mornin', Relative Race, it's Day 8!
Team Green here, we're in Peoria, with my nephew, Jake, and Cheyenne.
- It was another really nice morning.
Uh, I just feel like it's so easy for us to connect to everyone.
- Yeah, absolutely.
You know, he's showing us how they, uh, like to play on their motorcycles, ride motorcycles and stuff, and then I'm showin' pictures of our kids doing fishing and stuff like that.
This trend with the family just be, connecting right away, I mean, it's almost like we've known each other this whole time, but we just don't have the memory.
Susan: We plan on getting together.
- As much as possible and as fast as possible.
♪ Dan: In Magee, Mississippi, JT is saying goodbye to his aunt, Lindy.
Lindy: I found some pictures of your daddy I want you to look at.
This was at our property.
That was back when he was a little bit younger.
JT: I see you're a good-lookin' family.
Lindy: Mm-hm.
That's a good picture.
JT: That is a good picture.
Kaleigh: You look, look so much like him.
Lindy: It does.
Kaleigh: You really do.
JT: When I look at photos of my father, William, I see a lot of everybody that I've met on this race, and I see a lot of me.
I'm really hoping I get to meet him at some point during the race.
- Thought you might like them.
It's so wonderful meetin' you.
JT: It has been.
- I'm tellin' you.
It's beautiful.
And this, we got a reason to have a family reunion.
Kaleigh: Yes.
Lindy: 'Kay.
I've enjoyed meetin' 'em, and I'm enjoying looking forward to a future with them.
They're gonna bring us all back together.
They will.
Dan: In Prescott, Pam and Christine are saying their goodbyes to their cousin, Zach, and his son, Jaden.
Pam: I loved finally being able to meet y'all.
It was so nice.
Jaden and Zach, just two more of the, of the clan, huh?
- Yeah, I know it, right?
You know, we're really grateful you guys came by.
- It was really nice to be able to meet our new cousin, Zach, and spend time with him and his son, and this morning, they're gonna help us choose the best route out of town.
Zach: We're here, Prescott, so we got that route from 89.
Pam: Yep, it goes south.
Zach: Goin' south.
Pam: Now, this, this says it's got scenery and mountainous area, and we don't know-- Christine: If we're going through the mountains or if the mountains are on the side of us.
Pam: I think it's around the mountains, so this one-- [notification tone] Christine: 'Kay, babe, we got the text, we got the text, guys.
♪ JT: We got a text.
Kaleigh: Got a text.
Susan: "Good morning, teams--" Christine: "And welcome to Day 8 of Relative Race."
- "Team Blue will be traveling to--" Both: "--Jackson, Mississippi--" Christine: "Team Black will be traveling to Lake Havasu City, Arizona--" Susan: "and Team Green will be traveling to Bullhead City, Arizona."
- "Today's first-place prize is a challenge benefit."
- [gasps] Both: "Your challenge starts now."
Steve: Later, bro!
Jake: Later, man.
Pam: Okay, all right.
Come on, we gotta go.
Christine: Gotta get your bags, Pam.
Pam: Yeah, we gotta head out and get back on the road.
With two strikes and two days left to go, we have got to give it our best effort today.
Susan: Oh my gosh, a challenge benefit!
Steve: Oh, we need that.
So even though we have the first place prize of bein' able to move up a spot, no matter how we finish, we're not gonna let up.
We're still goin' for first place.
No matter what we do, somebody's gettin' a strike today, and it's not us.
Lindy: Okay.
JT: I love you.
Lindy: I love you.
JT: I love you more.
Our goal is to be the only team in Relative Race history to not get a single strike.
- Bye!
♪ Pam: All right, take a right.
We are going, we're gonna be looking for 89 north.
- I feel like we made a mistake yesterday with... [sighs] time-wise, we were looking at it, but it, we didn't, we didn't factor in-- - Distance-wise, it was-- - Distance-wise, yeah, but we didn't factor in mountainous territory, where... - Right.
- ...35, 25 miles an hour.
Yesterday was a close call, and we came close to getting our third strike.
Pam: Yeah, I think it's time we knock Team Green off the pedestal and take that first place for ourselves.
- Mm-hm.
Susan: All right.
Let's get first place, baby.
Steve: Let's do it!
Susan: A challenge benefit.
That tells, I mean, that right there, we already decided we were gonna go for first, but... - Right.
Just like what we're gonna do up here.
- Turn right?
- Yeah.
- All right, let's get this.
Steve: We still want first.
Like, we're not gonna let up.
We can, it's just not in us.
We're still gonna give 110 percent.
Even if Team Black gets a strike today because of us, they'll still get to meet all their relatives, and honestly, the less teams that go to Day 10, the better.
Dan: Today, both Teams Black and Green begin racing in Arizona.
Team Black is heading from Prescott to Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
They have an allotted time of 3 hours and 22 minutes.
For Team Green, they're making their way from Peoria to Bullhead City, Arizona.
Their allotted time is 3 hours and 19 minutes.
♪ - Well.
- Yeah, they can't.
So, yeah.
- It's just iffy on the Black.
Depends on how they do today.
Kaleigh: Yeah.
We came on this journey to have the full experience and to give 100 percent in everything that we do, and I just don't think it would be right for us to slack off just because we're goin' to Day 10.
I wanna keep pushin', and do the best that we absolutely can throughout the rest of this competition.
Dan: With their sights set for Day 10, Team Blue is racing through the state of Mississippi from Magee to Jackson.
They have the shortest allotted time of the day at 1 hour and 1 minute.
[reflective music] Amauni: Red Team is no longer in the race.
We got our third strike on Day 7, but, we're okay, because... - We had that, uh, that golden ticket, so we're able to see...
Both: One more relative.
- Since this is our last drive, we decided to send one last text to the other teams.
[notification tone] Kaleigh: Aw, Team Red.
They sent a great message.
- Oh.
- Aww.
- That was very well-said.
- Aww.
I really wish I could give them my golden ticket so they could meet that last family member.
Christine: Aw.
I love that, and I agree, like, I really do look forward to seeing everybody at the end of the night and... sharing our stories, and just seeing what everybody else is... you know, who they've met, and, how their day was.
- What's goin' on with me?
- [laughs] Steve: We all know exactly what each of us is goin' through on this journey, and our hearts go out to them, but to see everybody just, you know, express that, that love and compassion for Team Red and then them showin' their thanks...
I mean, it... y'all, it's just like we're our own family, too.
- Team Green says: I know we love y'all too, Team Green.
It's truly amazing how we really do feel like family with the other teams on this race.
- And the journey's not over because we still have one more relative to meet today.
♪ Dan: After wishing Jarrell and Amauni farewell, the other teams have shifted their tone, and now, it's game on.
- Boom, baby.
- Mic drop.
- [laughs] Steve: We play the game how we play the game.
We don't talk smack a lot.
We do think it's funny, and a lot of the teams are pretty witty, but when the team that's in last place starts talkin' smack, it's kinda comical.
- Ugh.
- [chuckle] Got a text.
- [sighs] All right.
Got a response from Team Green.
Christine: Let's have it.
Pam: They said - 'Kay.
So tell them to slow down their speed, and we'll get first.
Pam: I know, right?
- I just wanted to say good luck to everybody today, 'cause I mean, it's anybody's race.
You know, I feel like if, uh, you say, hey, good luck, don't wanna see you go home, they're gonna stress about that a lot.
Kaleigh: Yeah.
- Unless that's just a tactic we wanna use.
- No, I don't, don't wanna do that 'cause I don't want someone doin' that to me, either.
- So, I mean, goin' into today, the only team that's really, that has somethin' to worry about is Black.
- Yeah.
They better, they better bring their A game today.
- Yeah.
You know they will.
You know they're gonna try.
♪ [ringtone] Pam: Hello?
- Hi, Mom, hi, Dad!
Oh!
- We're okay.
We got a phone call today in the car from... - Our parents who raised us, Wanda and Gerard, and it was amazing!
- It's going good.
We have two sisters, Mom!
Both: Yeah.
Pam: Knowing that we've had the support of our adoptive parents this entire time has been incredibly uplifting for us.
Christine: It was great to hear their voices.
It's exactly what I needed.
I love you, I love y'all both so much.
- Yeah.
It just, you know, I really appreciate all the sacrifices that you and Dad made, and fightin' for Pam and I. Makin' sure that we stayed together.
Christine: Yes.
- Yep.

Susan: City limits!
We're in Bullhead City limits!
Steve: Oh!
- Right here!
Ugh!
Why didn't we see that sooner?
We could have pulled over right there!
- Geez.
JT: Yeah, there it is.
Ha!

- All right, look, there's the sign, let's go!
Christine: Comin'?
[notification tone] ♪ JT: Ha ha!
Kaleigh: I know where that's at, let's go!
Christine: Let's go.
♪ - All right, we should be comin' up on flags here soon.
- Yep.
See the dreaded yellow flag.
Susan: Right there, right there, right there, right there.
Steve: Oh, there it is!
Kaleigh: Let's go.
Pam: Double Vision.
Dan: The challenge for Day 8 is double vision.
Teams must wear various vision-altering goggles and attempt to throw and catch a ball in each others' bins.
Once each player catches a ball, the team moves on to the next phase, with new wacky goggles awaiting them.
Finish all three phases to complete this challenge.
♪ [energetic band music] Christine: Got yours on?
- Yep.
- [grunts] - Nice!
Steve: Whoo!
- All right, ready?
Steve: Yep.
Our strategy is no matter what goggles we're wearing, we're going to stand in the middle, and just throw it to our partner as close as we can, and just hope that we can catch it.
Kaleigh: Yeah.
[buzzer] Oh, so close.
[buzzer] - [laughter] I didn't get close, did I?
- Agh, [grumbles] Christine: [laughs] So when I first put on the, the prism glasses, it wasn't terrible.
So I was like man, this is going to be fun.
Huh, huh, huh.
Yeah.
[buzzer] [groan] Kaleigh: Good job, all right.
[ding] [ding] [ding, ding, ding] - All right.
[ding, ding, ding] Both: Yes!
[ding, ding, ding] Susan: Nice!
Steve: Whew, let's go!
- C'mon, c'mon, c'mon!
These first goggles, boom.
- Bam.
Got it.
♪ Kaleigh: I'm gonna get sick.
[buzzer] Sorry.
The second one, it's a lot harder to get my balance when I'm standin' there about to throw the ball.
Or even trying to catch it.
It's, every time I get my feet planted, I start to go forward, or start to go backward.
- Picking up the ball off the ground with the second pair of goggles is harder.
You go to grab it, its not there.
You go to grab it over here, it's not there.
I don't know where the ball is at.
Pam: Really?
[buzzer] Christine: [laughs] You look too far away.
It was really hard to walk with the dizzy goggles.
I wasn't sure, like, looking down to my right, trying to find the spot where I need to stand to throw the ball, it just was all off.
Pam: We could barely see each other.
Christine: It was really blurred.
Susan: Too far?
[buzzer] Susan: Come on!
Get it, get it, get it.
Do you need me to?
- I got it.
Susan: The second goggles we put on are fuzzy and dark, and I could, distorted, I could hardly see him.
Steve: Yeah.
Susan: It was more difficult than the first.
Steve: It got hard to walk.
♪ Susan: I'm in the middle I think.
Ahhh!
[buzzer] [ding] Pam: Did it go in?
- Yes!
[ding] Kaleigh: Yes!
JT: Got it!
- All right, Jonathan, right to me.
- All right, ready?
Kaleigh: Yes.
[buzzer] Okay, I'm not even gettin' close.
Susan: Come on.
Nice!
[ding] Steve: Yes!
- Yes!
[ding, ding, ding] Susan: Nice!
Steve: Let's go!
[ding, ding, ding] Susan: Whew, that's crazy.
Steve: Oh gosh.
[ding, ding, ding] Kaleigh: All right, let's go!
JT: The first two weren't bad.
But, heh, the next pair of glasses, they really flip your world.
♪ Pam: Oh my goodness.
Christine: That's not hard at all.
Pam: The only way that we could kind of see was to put our, our heads directly facing up towards the sky, and then we could see each other, but everything was still distorted.
Ahh!
- I don't even know where it went!
Pam: I don't know, you have to look straight up!
Kaleigh: I threw it way too high.
Susan: Come on, come on, come on.
Steve: [grunts] [buzzer] Susan: Shoot.
Steve: When you're wearing these goggles, you have to look up to see forward, and it's incredibly hard to keep your balance.
Sweetie, you're right there!
Susan: Ahh!
[buzzer] Steve: Oh crap, you okay?
Susan: Yeah.
Pam: I think I'm going in circles, I don't know what's going on right now!
Kaleigh: Hold on, I'm seriously going to end up throwing up.
Steve: Straight ahead, straight!

Steve: Behind you!
Christine: [grunts] - That went over my head.
Oh my gosh, it was like the whole world was upside down.
JT: You ready?

Christine: [laughing] Turn around!
Pam: I'm dizzy!

[buzzer] Steve: Where, where'd it go?
You ever walked through one of those fun houses with all those mirrors everywhere?
It's kinda what it's like, wearing these.
Kaleigh: Hold on, hold on.
At this point, it's about to happen.
I understand why they have the buckets in front of us.
The whole world's about to see a whole new side of me.
Susan: Ready.
Steve: To your, yeah, yeah, yeah!

[ding] JT: All right, we got it.
Kaleigh: Finally I realized if I close one eye, I could see a lot better.
- Oh, you figured out a trick to it and you didn't tell me?
- Well, I started to get nauseous.
[ding, ding, ding] JT: Table.

Pam: Little throw, little throw.
Yes!

[ding, ding, ding] - Wooo, let's go!

♪ Kaleigh: All I want to do is lay down, but we have got to go and get the address, and get in the car, and get to the relative's house.
- [playful voice] Do you need to call the wambulance?
- I'm gonna kick you in a minute.
- I just hope she doesn't throw up in the car.
- Sick as a dog.
[upbeat music] - Day 8, finding our relative.
Kaleigh: This is 4106.
JT: That's 41.
We're still on the 41.
- 4122, yeah.
So, we're going to have to go on down.
Steve: I mean, this is all we can do, is just keep driving, straight.
Susan: Yeah, I mean, yeah, there's no other option.
Steve: There's no, uh, at least we know we're going the right way!
- Yeah.
- [laughter] - We don't have to question, do we turn right?
No.
- There's no roads.
- No we don't.
[laughter] - It appears our relative's address is in a national park campground.
And this canyon looking road we're on goes right to it.
♪ Christine: No, it's not on here.
- That's, yeah, I know.
What do you want to do, left or right?
Christine: I don't know, call mom.
- Left or right?
I, I gotta do something.
- Then do something, I'm trying to find it on the map!
I can't.
- Okay, so, 4326.
We're going to go up here, where all the houses are on the side road, um, I'll check out on this side.
Christine: Is that Daytona?
Pam: Yeah.
We're supposed to turn down there?
I asked you right or left.
- No.
- Okay.
- How am I supposed to know that, all I said was you want me to find the streets, here's Daytona, here's Jamaica.
They run parallel.
- No, I know, we can cross through Daytona to get to Jamaica.
- It's not a straight, there's not a through street.
- Okay, help me babe.

- I have to make a U-turn.
Christine: All you had to do was stop, he won't stop the car.

- Hugging my cousin Madeline for the first time honestly felt like one of my grandma's hugs.
Um, it reminded me of the way she used to hug me, and I haven't hugged her since she passed away back in 2005.
So, that was very comforting, and it made me feel very at home.
So it's on my dad's mom's side, so.
- Yeah, yeah.
Kaleigh: That's the part of the family I don't know.
- I knew your grandfather.
- Okay.
Madeline: I used to go to Florida and see him, 'cause they lived in Lorraine, Ohio first, and then they went to Florida, and so I used to see them down there.
Kaleigh: Okay.
- You know, but I was a kid when I knew him, but I definitely remember him, and I have, I've got some old pictures that you're gonna just love.
- I can't wait.
I'm excited.
- Yeah.
- I'm ready to see all the connections.
Madeline: Yeah, exactly.
But I can tell by your coloring and everything, she's got, you've got that uh, Italian look about you.
- Yeah.

- Watching my wife get to meet a family member was just absolutely breathtaking, because I know that's all she's wanted, and this is all I've wanted for her.

- We have four sisters now that we've met since the beginning of this race, which was only eight days ago, so that is, that's just, that's incredible.
- How old are you?
- I'm 18.
Christine: 18.
Okay, and how old are you?
- I'm 24.
- Okay.
She'll be 40 next month.
- She will too.
All: [laughter] - Don't even believe it.
Rachel: Oh my goodness, meeting these girls, their personality, definitely presented themselves, and they have that kind of sisterly bond that Sam and I have, and it was really funny to see them, um, think together and work together.
- Did you guys know about us?
Sam: Yeah.
Rachel: Yeah, we did.
- You did?
Like, your whole life?
Both: Not our whole lives.
Christine: Okay.
- So you, you can, like, tell us more stuff right?
- Yeah.
- All right.
- We can tell you a bunch of stuff.
Christine: All right, awesome.
- Seeing our sisters for the first time was definitely a unique thing, uh, especially considering we've never really seen pictures of them before, and I think the only picture our father has of them is when they were babies, um, it's a surreal experience.
Um, I'm very excited about it though, um, happy to hopefully have them in our life for a long time, um, wish it could have been a little sooner, but, you know, we take what we can get, and I'm really excited.
You guys can come on inside.
Pam: Okay.
Christine: Okay, thank you.

We did it.
We did that quick.

- When we finally pulled up to our relatives, we're at a vacation home, next to this beautiful lake.
Steve: I can't wait to see who lives here.

My sister?
Becky: Your sister.

Becky: You are definitely a Pruett.

- I've been noticing the whole calico, um, beard and stuff.
- Right.
- A lot of eye features and.
- Yes.
I noticed that he looked like my grandma.
I saw my dad, I saw, he just, he was a Pruett.
He was a Pruett through and through.
I was in shock at what, he looks more like a Pruett than I do.
[laughter] He really does.
- So, we met your son, my nephew and his wife yesterday.
Becky: Oh nice.
- That was amazing, like, when he told me "Hi, I'm Jake and I'm your nephew," I like, it didn't um, it didn't click.
- Oh, you don't have any other nephews?
Steve: No.
- Oh wow.
Steve: I never dreamed that I would get this many answers, this much closure, from this, and meet this much wonderful family, that was so welcoming.
Um, I'm blown away, every day, by seeing somebody that I look like, uh, by how welcoming they are, um, I, I can't put it into words.
- Would you guys like to go to the lake, and maybe look at some photos, and talk some more?
- Yeah, absolutely.
- All right, let me grab the photos, and we'll do that.
♪ Dan: Back in Columbus, Ohio, Team Red may be out of the competition, but they still have one more relative to discover.
Amauni: No more racing, no more racing.
Jarrell: It was never about the race, it was just to meet relatives and family members.
So, I feel like we accomplished that.
Amauni: Okay.
Jarrell: [laughs] - We're here!

- Whose relative are you?
- I am your relative, Jarrell.
[laughter] - How are we related?
Khy: I am your cousin.

Khy: I've been waiting for you guys.
[laughing] I'm Khy Traylor, and I'm Jarrell's first cousin, on his mother's side.
Well, do I look like anybody to you?
Amauni: Dovetta.
- Yes!
[laughing] - I was gonna say Kaylani, I was definitely going to say Kaylani.
Khy: Well you look like some people I know, too.
- Who do I look like?
- You look like my son.
[laughter] Jarrell: Really?
- Yes.
Jarrell: Cousin Khy has the biggest smile, and her joy and happiness is like, is sky high, and it's just unmatched.
- It's so exciting to meet you guys!
I'm thrilled.
Thrilled, I've been like waiting for this day.
[laughter] - It's a long time comin'.
- Yeah, definitely, definitely.
Family is the most important thing to me, so even if I hadn't met him, if there's a family member out there, I want to make that connection.
But to actually be face-to-face, it was a very special connection and a spark.
Hugs, hugs, hugs.

All right, let's go inside, let's see what we got going on.
[laughing] Madeline: This is so wonderful to meet you.
So, I have pictures.
Would you like to start with that?
- Sure.
We sit down on the couch and my cousin Madeline has a bunch of information about my roots.
I knew that I was Italian, but I didn't know where my roots came from.
I didn't know where my family came from.
[Italian mandolin music] ♪ - This would be your great-great grandmother.
Her name was Casilda Vergari, which is my last name, Vergari, okay?
And my grandfather, they were brother and sister.
Okay?
So that's the connection there.
Kaleigh: Looking at these portraits and seeing how far back they go, you could tell me exactly who this person was to me.
How they're related to me.
And we're creating all of these newer generations and one day we're going to be that person to them.
You definitely want to leave a good legacy for them.
- So they all came over through Ellis Island, and you can even see right here, this is the manifest for the Funari's.
Um, you're probably, you're, you're, um...
Here.
Kaleigh: Funari.
Madeline: You see it?
Kaleigh: Funari right there.
Madeline: Yeah, so it shows all of them coming over.
You have to understand that the information is going back way before.
I mean, we're going back great-great and great and grandpa.
I think it maybe brought everything around for her with her family because she only had that one side that she knew, so now she has a whole new set of family.
- And what part of Italy were they from?
Madeline: Sarnano, which is kind of like, um, north of Rome.
- Okay.
Madeline: Yeah.
It's a real small, little mountain villiage, and I've gone many times.
But we actually have the grave site of the parents of Casilda.
Like, we went and visited in the cemetery.
- To find out that there was actually a small town that all of my family came from, and I could actually go back there and visit and possibly find more relatives, you know, or just be able to walk along the same streets that my ancestors walked across.
That's so cool.
Like, that is one of the coolest things.
Well, I just want to thank you for all of this information because it means so much to me.
I've wanted to know so much about my family and especially the Italian side.
I didn't know where any of them came from.
And so, this is very enlightening and definitely makes me realize I've got to go visit Italy soon.
- You do.
- And now I know where to go in Italy to visit so... And then I definitely want to come out and visit y'all.
- We would love to have you come out.
Bring the family and the kids.
- Oh yeah, for sure.
- Be great.
- Can make that happen, yeah.
I'm gonna give you a hug.
♪ Steve: So after meeting my sister, Becky, she brings us down to the lake to look at photos of my siblings and dad.
- This is, uh, your other sister, Joyce-y.
Steve: Y'all look like you're having fun.
Becky: Yeah.
[laughs] Those were the days.
All: [laughing] - Showing him the faces of our other siblings, it, it brought me a lot of joy because I could see that he was enjoying it.
He was like, "Oh, look at that," you know, "Look at that!"
And I know he wants to meet them.
I can tell.
He's just so excited about it.
This is Michael, here.
This is his, um, his youngest son.
Michael and me were talking a lot before he passed away.
From what I understand, he may have been having some problems with his kidneys.
He didn't tell anybody.
I know if that's true, any of us would've given him one.
- Yeah, I got to learn about Michael, which is in my brother that is already passed.
He was from a middle marriage and he wasn't able to be around everybody like, like he should have been.
I feel like that Becky is really saddened by the fact that she didn't get to spend more time with him.
And that Michael didn't get a chance to really know that how much he was cared for.
So how did, how did Michael grow up, I mean?
- Michael's mother never had any more children.
He grew up an only child.
When I heard about you, and they said that you kind of grew up the same way, it really hurt my heart.
[emotionally] Because Michael didn't get to know us, you know?
And I thought maybe he didn't have anybody either.
And he always felt like he had nobody.
And, it just really, it, I, I started to cry when she told me because I was afraid that you felt the same way and were, you know, had, growing up wanting those things and didn't have it.
Steve: Becky has absolutely, um, gave me a sense of how important all the siblings are to her.
She's kind of the glue that holds everybody together from what I gather.
- Losing Michael really made it important.
When I found out that I had a brother, it was very important that we meet him because, if he was looking for us, that means he needed something.
He needed something within himself to find us.
And that means he wanted it.
Well, he got it.
[laughing] He got it.
He's got a lot of siblings and we're all gonna love him.
So there's Dad.
Steve: Is that more recent?
- That one, yeah, is probably 9 years ago or so.
He's all about his hair.
Steve: Look at the, uh, the moustache, darling.
Susan: Yeah.
Becky: You know, you're just, you have the same face.
You look, doesn't he?
- Yeah.
- Literally, my dad, our dad is just thinner.
- Do you, do you think that Dad knew about me?
Back then?
- Uh, no.
Absolutely not.
I'm sure of it.
♪ Steve: That question's important.
It's important to me, uh, to know if my dad knew about me.
Because everybody was just a matter of fact that nobody knew who he was.
Nobody had any information about him.
- Dad, if he'd'a known about you, I think for sure you and Ronnie and the other three boys would've been raised together.
Probably wouldn't've been adopted out.
You probably would've been raised with Debbie and Dad, for sure.
And Debbie would've op-- She would've welcomed you with open arms.
Debbie is my dad's third wife and his current wife.
And she was always very open.
I think if they had known, Debbie, especially, would never have let him go up for adoption.
She would've been like, "No, no, no.
He's coming with us."
So, I, that's why I don't believe that they knew at all.
- That's, it's really good to know.
- Yes, but you definitely, definitely would've, you would've been raised with all your brothers.
That's why I don't think he knew.
Steve: We got one day left.
Day 9.
And that's one relative that we haven't met.
And I would very much like for it to be my father.
Would I be okay if it's not my father?
Um, yes, for the simple fact that I think I could get to meet him in, under normal circumstances.
I mean, I don't know, maybe I'm just leaving myself an out, you know, so I'm not de-devastated or something.
Um, but, um, I, I hope I get to meet him tomorrow.
Dan: Back in Lake Havasu City, the twins get to see more photos of their father, Arnold, and their new sisters, Rachel and Sam.
- And so this is him when he was younger.
And that's his sister.
- Aww, Monique?
Sam: Monique.
Rachel: That's Monique.
Sam: Yeah.
And then this is just another one of them.
Pam: Look at those rockin' bell bottoms.
All: [laughing] Pam: I love 'em.
Sam: And this is from her quincé.
- Yeah, my fifteenth birthday.
Christine: [gasps] That's you?
Rachel: Yeah.
- No way.
Rachel: [laughs] I look completely different.
Christine: That's cool.
And who's this with you?
- That's our dad.
Christine: Oh, oh!
Pam: That's what you're gonna look like in 20 years.
All: [laughing] - Hi guys.
Very funny.
Pam: When they were showing us more pictures, I just contiued to chuckle because I'm not her twin.
He's her twin.
Both: [laughing] - Stop it.
Pam: She looks just like him.
It's so funny because I've never seen anybody that she looks like.
And so I just, it just continues to make me giggle, but like, you know, a loving giggle.
- I mean, that kind of is my mad face, so like, you know.
People are like, "Are you mad?"
I'm like, "No, this is the way the face was made.
That's just the way I look!"
Sam: Yep.
Christine: So, I mean, not really mad face, but everyone thinks I'm mad all the time when I'm just like, just not smiling.
- This is hilarious.
You look exactly like him.
- [laughs] Sam: Sharing our family photos from our side with the twins was definitely a great experience.
I'm happy to give them some kind of insight into what it was like for us growing up, 'cause I know that's something they're missing.
They didn't get to grow up with our dad like we did.
I hope that at least seeing these pictures, it gives them some kind of insight to how he was and, you know, the kind of man that he is.
- What can you, what can you tell Pam and I a-about our biological father?
You know, you guys grew up with him.
You've lived with him.
- Yeah.
Christine: If there's anything that you guys would like to share, we'd like to hear it.
Sam: Yeah, I mean, he's, he's a really hard-working man.
And I know it sounds like he didn't really talk about you guys much.
You were brought up, like, a few times.
It's not like he didn't care about you guys.
I think moreso it's something he was trying to deal with for himself.
'Cause he, you know, everyone has their own, like, devils they fight with.
You know, he definitely has his own.
Our relationship is good with him, but you know, sometimes we butt heads, you know?
We're so similar in character.
- Like any child and parent would.
All: [speaking over each other] - That's no different from any relationship period.
- Yeah.
Christine: Yeah.
- Yeah.
Christine: I don't have any anger or resentment towards him.
And I think part of, part of that not being present for me is that we had a wonderful upbringing.
We had parents that loved us so wholeheartedly and sacrificed for us that I just, you know, there's always that question, like, where do you come from?
But I always knew where I belonged.
And so I just, you know, I'm not angry.
Answers would be great.
You know, I'm, I am ready and willing to, kind of, leave that door open if he's willing to meet us at that, you know, at that spot.
- I hope you are able to meet my dad along the way.
I think, I would really, I think it would be beneficial.
And I know he'd probably be very excited about it if it happens.
- We really appreciate you guys taking the time to, you know, show us these photos and, and meet us, and I would love to continue this, you know?
Pam: Yeah, it, it's certainly not gonna stop here.
- And you owe me 39 years of birthday presents by the way.
39 years of birthday presents.
Sam: I gotchu girl.
Christine: And Christmas- Nah, I'm just playing.
- I love giving presents, okay.

♪ - So, after meeting my cousin Khy, she had a surprise for us waiting inside.

I'm your first cousin on your mom's side.
All: [laughing] Khy: I had heard how much fun they had with Des and Dovetta and really, truly, we all wanted to come together.
So I thought it would be good if I could just bring them back, and we could actually spend some time with Jarrell, together the three of us.
And then I wanted to add in some of our children so that he would have a chance to meet some of the other extended family that are out there.
- I got to meet my biological mother on Day 6.
- What?
- Yes.
And I also found out that I have 13 siblings.
- [laughs] Woman: [over computer speakers] Congrats.
Amauni: It's really fun to have everybody together on the Zoom call because all of the personalities are wild.
It's, like, so fun.
It shows me what we have to look forward to when we all get together in person.
- Duryea, whatcha think about all this?
- I, I am, pleasantly surprised and amazed at, um, how the age in which we live and the technology that we have is able to bring us together.
Khy: Yeah.
- Uh, it's, it's a blessing.
It's a blessing.
Khy: Yeah, it really is.
- We're definitely gonna stay connected with all the family that I've met along this race.
This journey has been a life-changing experience and I feel all the love from everybody.

There's a connection there for me, where we are the mothers who will love you.
We are the family that will love you.
Madeline: For me, understanding my family roots is, uh, very important.
Kaleigh: To know that we could have this connection, and I can introduce my dad into it, because there's nothing better than family.
There's no bond greater than that.
Steve: I would still say that the biggest takeaway from this whole thing is how important time is.
I mean, you have an opportunity to meet family and spend time with loved ones.
You should do it 'cause there's, it's the only thing you can't get back, is time.
Pam: This is life-enriching.
It's life-changing.
It makes you a better person.
I mean, there's just so many positive things that I will pull away from this.
Steve: When I get home, I'm gonna make every second count.
I'm gonna do, [laughs] everything I can to make sure that everybody knows that I love them.

♪ ♪ Susan: We got first place yesterday and our prize was to move up one placement, so we're not worried about a strike tonight.
Steve: Yeah, but we went hard today.

And we're gunnin' for first place tonight.
Pam: We know we have two strikes going into the call tonight, but we do feel like we gave it our best today.
Christine: And really all we need to do is make it one more day, and we can get all the way to Day 10.

And things look different.
For the first time, there are only three teams.
I will let you know that Team Red did go ahead and use their golden ticket, and they weren't on the clock.
They were just on a day of discovery.
Let's kind of reset things for today.
Team Green, you finished in first place yesterday.
Your advantage today is that wherever you place, you move up one spot.
Well we're gonna find out how everybody did.
Team Blue, you're the only team that does not have a strike.
Are you surprised you're in this position?
Both: Yes.
- We really are.
- Yes.
- You haven't received a strike, and yet, you've never finished in first place?
- I know.
I guess we just like the second place area.
I don't know.
[chuckles] Dan: Wanna talk with our twin sisters.
You got a phone call while you were driving today.
Who called you?
Pam: Our, um, mom and dad called us today to surprise us.
To just, send us some encouragement.
We're both feeling pretty homesick, and they wanted to let us know that they've been prayin' for us the whole way through.
So it was, it was nice to hear their voices and, um, you know, know that they're okay and let them know that we're okay.
- Christine, you're pretty emotional.
- Um, yeah, 'cause, um, you know, Pam, Pam lives near them.
She's fortunate enough to see them.
Um, they moved away from, um, where, where I live about a year ago, so I have not been able to see them.
So I am, I miss them terribly.
I've never been this far away from, from them at all, so it's hard for me.
Dan: What a nice surprise for Pam and Christine.
And on that note, let's discuss why you're all here.
To discover new family.
So Team Green, who did you meet?
- Well Dan, today I got to meet, and I give the pleasure of introducing y'all to my sister.
This is my sister, Becky.
Becky: Hi.
- This is on my dad's side, on the Pruett side.
Dan: This is just incredible.
You guys are meeting sisters, brothers, mothers.
This is fantastic.
- It's so awesome, Dan.
It's so awesome.

[laughs] Dan: You're in Bullhead City, right?
- Yes!
Yes, we are.
- So we have two teams in Arizona right now and it looks beautiful.
Team Black, you're in Lake Havasu City.
Who was waiting for you there?
- Okay.
- We met two more sisters.
Rachel and Sam: Hi.
Pam and Christine: Rachel and Sam.
- Two more, that's four sisters.
- Yep.
Yep.
In total that's four sisters, and, uh, they took us out boating on the lakes, so that was an absolutely incredible experience.
Dan: Team Blue, you had quite the surprise tonight.
This was not JT's relative.
Rather, Kaleigh... - It was my relative.
So, I got to meet my cousin on my father's side, Madeline.
Both: Hey!
- Hi.
- What's interesting about this is she is on my dad's mother's side and she's the first relative on that side of the family that I've gotten to meet.
- So, you've got a lot of catching up to do tonight.
- Yes, we do.
Dan: JT, was this extra special for you to now be able to sit back and see the joy and the excitement and the light in your wife's eyes?
- Absolutely, Dan.
I've been waiting on this all trip.
- The whole entire trip, yes.
He's been hoping I would meet somebody.
- Yes.
Dan: Well guys, it seems like a wonderful Day 8 overall.
You're in beautiful places, you've met beautiful people, and your families have expanded once again.
But it's now time.
[suspenseful music] Team Black, you have two strikes.
One more, and your race will be over.
Team Green, you have one strike, but you also had the advantage of knowing you'd move up a spot.
Team Blue, you've never finished in first place.
You've been in the middle of the pack and you have yet to receive a single strike.
Finishing only two minutes over their alloted time, Team Blue.
You finally finished in first place.
Madeline: Yay.
[laughs] - Oh.
JT: Yes!
We get first, finally.
- We're down to Team Black and Team Green, and the difference here was six minutes.
Finishing 13 minutes over their alloted time is Team Green, which means Team Blue, you had first place for the first time ever, but it was short-lived.
Team Green now bumps you out of that spot.
But ultimately, Team Black, you finished 19 minutes over your allotted time, which means you have picked up your third and final strike and you are no longer part of the race.
But you had that backpack given to you on Day 1.
Inside, a relative golden ticket.
That allows you to move on one more day.
The race may be over, but your discovery of family continues.
Before we say goodbye, I'd like Team Green and Team Blue to give their thoughts.
- I just wanna say what a pleasure it is to meet you all.
