Dan: The twins met their mom's sister, Bobbie.

Dan: And received answers to questions they've had their entire lives.
Bobbie: She gave you guys to somebody who could properly take care of you.
Joseph: It blew me away because I didn't realize the kind of predicament that our mom was in.
Dan: DNA tells us who we are and where we came from.
Following their own DNA, four teams are racing-- Sean: Come on!
Liz: Let's go, let's go!
- [scream] Dan: --to win $50,000-- - Yes!
Dan: --and to find their family.
[knocking noise] ♪ Devin: Look, this is it.
It's the last day, do or die.
We're either gonna win it now, or we're going home crying, and I'm not going home crying.
- We're feeling great after that first-place win, and our challenge benefit today hopefully leads us to another first-place win.
Dan: It's Day 9 of Relative Race, and for the first time ever, all four teams have two strikes.
Sean: It's Day 9, we've got nothing to lose, so we're going all out.
- When we started this race, we had one goal, and that was to visit and see every relative.
Dan: All of the teams will meet their final relative today, but one team will be going home while the others will move on to compete for $50,000.
Monika: It's really anybody's game, and it's a little nerve-wracking, but I'm really confident in our skills.
Every day we've been getting better and better.
- We're not going home.
Dan: Will the ongoing feud between Teams Green and Black come to an end, or will both teams be moving on?
We're about to find out.
♪ In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth and Devin aren't wasting any time getting ready this morning.
Liz: We woke up this morning, downtown Philly, we're saying goodbye or see you later to my sister, Jen.

- Since we're wanting to do adoption, it's a pretty long process, and it requires a decent amount of money to get started.
- Yes.
- After being on this show, adopting a child into our lives has now become more important than ever.
- And winning Day 10 means everything and could really make that happen for us.

Anthony: This is the view.

Twins: Yeah.
- We've got one more day, and we've come so far already, we can't go home at this point.
- You ready to do this?

♪ Dan: And in Omaha, Nebraska, the best friends, Monika and Magen, are more focused than ever on making it to Day 10 and taking home the $50,000.
- The nightly ritual, and the morning ritual, is to plan and map, plan and map.
So, this morning, I've been working on this, and I've narrowed it down to about 10 or 12 cities.
Definitely wanted to sit down with Dave this morning, he's a native, and check my work.
And maybe you could help me look at it?
Dave: Yeah!

- And Team Green will be traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska!

Liz: Today's first place prize is two airline tickets to visit a relative of your choice.
- Wow.

♪ Dan: With a bit of a slow start, Team Red is departing from Philadelphia and heading to West Chester, Pennsylvania.
They have an allotted time, including the day's challenge, of 1 hour and 29 minutes.
[horn honking] - Getting out of downtown Philly, these streets are tiny!
[horn honking] Hey, babe, I got this!
Let me drive.
Magen: We don't even know what side of the road we're going to and it's right here, so.
- I'll figure it out.
Magen: Okay, but there's one off to the right is my point.
♪ Dan: Team Green is departing from Omaha, Nebraska, and they're headed to Lincoln.
They have an allotted time of 1 hour and 6 minutes.
- You're gonna go west.

Sean: We need to just make it into Day 10, and then we'll really turn the fire on, so we're gonna rock the war paint again, we're gonna get this.

[giggling] Sean: There's the on-ramp right there.
Today we're coming for all you.
- Every single one.
- We're getting that $50,000.
Dan: Feeling determined, Team Black is starting in Nashville and headed to Chattanooga.
They have an allotted time of 2 hours and 19 minutes.
- Here we go!
♪ Anthony: Yep.
- That would be.
Oh!
Dan: And excited for the opportunity to win airline tickets, Team Blue is leaving Cocoa, Florida, and making their way towards Clermont, Florida.
They have an allotted time of 1 hour and 36 minutes.
- My goal is for us to win today, Joe.
We have to.
Like, it's out of the cards.
Like, we have been losing and getting second and third place, but we need to get today, because we need those airline tickets more than any other teams.
♪ Dan: While all four teams will meet their final relative today, Team Blue, Joseph and Anthony, are reflecting on their journey thus far and wondering who is waiting for them.
- As Joe and I became adults, our relationship with our adoptive family went through some hard times, and Joe and I found ourselves sleeping on a park bench at one point.
That's when we decided to go live at the Union Gospel Mission in the Twin Cities.
Joseph: All of my life, there's been a space in my heart filled with questions.
Anthony: We've come a long way on this journey, and we have met amazing cousins and two of our mom's sisters.
We're really hoping that we meet our mom today.
It’s amazing, man.
When you have true hope... Joseph: Yeah.
- ...and you don't give up, you don't give in, and you just keep going, do good things, and good things will come your way.
- That’s right.
Anthony: Mm-hm.
♪ Dan: As all four teams approach their destination cities, tensions rise as they look for city signs.

[clapping] [suspenseful music] Dan: With their selfies completed, the teams are about to dive into Day 9's challenge.
- Ready?
Dan: Day 9's challenge is Dodgy Divers.
Teams must transport fish from one side of an obstacle course to the other, while wearing flippers and goggles, of course.
If teams spill their fish or knock over an oar, they'll have to start over.
To complete this challenge, teams must drop three fish in the bowl on the far side of the course.
The allotted time for Dodgy Divers is 8 minutes.
♪ Kacey: All right.
Shoes off.
♪ Monika: As soon as we started our challenge, there's a card sitting on the table.
Congratulations on yesterday's win.
For your benefit, you may remove one oar from this course.
- Okay, which one do you want gone?
- The bottom one!
- The bottom second?
Okay.
The decision was pretty clear.
We were moving the second oar from the last stop, so we only had to clear under one oar and not step over it.
It felt great to chuck it to the side and know that other teams were going to have to clear it.
♪ Liz: I'm ready.

[water bubbling] Monika: Okay, hold on.
Liz: Let's go, let's go, let's go!

- Yep.
Kacey: All right.
Here, I'll go up first?
Sean: Yep.
Go ahead.
Kacey: And up!
Sean: Okay.
Kacey: Oh, there's something short there.
The scuba flippers make this so much harder.
Anthony: Joe, grab here, and grab here.
We're thinking we're not going to be able to hold the wheel like the other teams, so if I can get my hands under the wheel, maybe Joe can have enough leverage and put his feet above the oar.

- To be honest, I don't know if I can do this.
[Joseph groaning] Anthony: Good job.
Joseph: Okay.
Anthony: Good job.
Anthony: Takes a lot of strength on his part because he has a lot of spasticity with cerebral palsy.

As we're doing this challenge, it's really hard not to think about Joe on Team Blue.
[Joseph grunting] Liz: Yeah, and how difficult this must be for him with his disability.

We get the second fish in the bowl, and I'm feeling we can actually do this, I just need to push through a little bit more.
♪ Devin: Three.
- Okay, let me know when we're ready.

Anthony: I can see a little.
Joseph: Third fishy in.
Anthony: Okay.
Magen: You can't see, so you need to trust me.
Monika: Okay, ready?

[Joseph grunting] Dan: With Day 9's challenge behind them, all four teams are now on their last leg of the race, finding their relative's address.

Magen: Yeah, it wants you to turn right, you know, when we get up here, okay?

Are you sure?
Magen: 100% sure.
- Okay, awesome.
- This is it.
We have to find our relative's address faster than anyone else.
Sean: Got a notebook?
Got a marker?
Kacey: We see cops on the side of a dirt road, and today is definitely our lucky day.
- See the flag, it's like straight.
- Oh, okay, cool.

We've been doing this for eight days.
We got this.
- We're on our way to our relative!
This is our last relative, and I'm so excited.
This could potentially be who we've been looking for our entire lives.
- You got it?
Kacey: Yeah, so we're gonna turn right out of here.
[grunt] Sean: Okay.
- So it’s gonna be on this side.
Magen: 1.42 and falling.
- Just keep giving me that update like you always do.
Kacey: And then we're gonna go over the river and we're probably have to ask someone after that 'cause it gets real dicey.
Sean: Great.
- Uh... Liz: Try to navigate this quickly.
- Yeah, yeah, I got you.
Kacey: [sighing] It's all right.

It was an incredibly amazing experience for me to meet somebody from my biological mother's family, but specifically from my grandmother's side of the family.
My grandmother died when I was very young, and I did not know any of their relatives, so this is the first person that I've ever met from that part of the family tree.

Shelleye: Your story has 32 years involved, and mine has 62 years involved.
Monika: My Aunt Shelleye tells me that she's been looking for my side of the family, the Draheim side, her entire life.
So you didn't know, like, anything about that side until my DNA put it together?
- I hadn't met any of them.
I knew that I had sisters, but I didn't know-- I've tried to find them, and I couldn't find them 'cause the last names weren't the same.
- Right.
Shelleye: I have looked.
Absolutely.
Monika: That's so crazy.
Shelleye: Absolutely.
- Wow.
Shelleye: Absolutely.
Monika: My Aunt Shelleye has never met my mom, Robin, or anyone on the Draheim side of the family.
- You did your DNA, and then my granddaughter, Bri Lawson, did her DNA, and the two of you, by searching your DNA, brought the whole Draheim family together, and it's been a long time coming, honey.
Monika: Yeah.
You're making me emotional too because, like, I never saw, like, this, like, paying off for other people.
Like, I just didn’t-- That wasn't-- I don't know why, I just didn't see that happening, and seeing that this is, like, helping spread the love, and you're finding more family, it's just-- Shelleye: And I hope I can spread a whole lotta love in your life.
Monika: Oh.

♪ My journey is coming to an end today with meeting relatives, but it's really cool because Shelleye is actually kind of just starting her journey, and because I went on this journey, she's able to meet a lot of new family.

Let me show you how we are related and whose family.
- Okay.
- And it starts off with Moriah Peoples, who is pretty much-- is my-- our great-grandmother.
And Manerva is your great-great-grandmother.
Devin: Great-great-grandmother.
Leon: Okay?
Devin: Got it.
Leon and Reneese, their grandmother and my great-grandmother on my mother's sides were biological sisters.
They were actually right after each other, born right after each other.
And so that makes our great-great-grandmother the same person.
And I knew that my grandmother was maiden-named Williams.
- Right.
- Um, but unfortunately, my grandmother was mentally ill. Um, she had dementia, she had Alzheimer's.
So by the time I really got to know her, she wasn't really in her right mind anymore.
So what's really interesting to me, my grandmother and my mother and a lot of my aunts and uncles have those eyes.
My cousin Reneese has my grandmother's eyes, and my grandmother and my mother have the same eyes, as well as my aunt.
And so when I was looking at Reneese's eyes, I could see both my aunt and my grandmother at the same time, and my mom who raised me as well.
So, my mom died-- She died five years ago.
♪ [Devin sniffing] Reneese: It's okay, cousin.
It's okay!
It's all right.
Devin: So... [clearing throat] So, my birth mom was sick, and basically, because she died five years ago, our plan was always to do something to celebrate either five years from when she died, which was May 19, or five years from what would've been her birthday.
I was surprised by how emotional I was to make that connection, because in the midst of this race, we're only a few days away from her birthday, and she passed away five years ago.
And it just hit me that-- Reneese: So, this time and this is the perfect time to-- - To get the history, absolutely.
I hadn't even thought about it, and being able to make that connection somehow makes it seem like she's a part of this journey as well.
Uh, just first and foremost, Leon, just thank you.
Thank you for being a part of this journey, thank you for your hospitality today, because-- Leon: Likewise.
This has been a journey for me also.
♪ Dan: In Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sean is learning more about his connection to his cousin, Gayvin.
- We share a set of grandparents.
Sean: Okay.
- In fact, great-great-grandparents, so it goes way back, and I'm gonna show you who they are.
Sean: Awesome!

- Sean and I are related by our great-great-grandparents Orrin and Emma Gilbert.
On your dad's side, as you know-- - Okay, yes, yes.
- --and this is the tintype of Orrin Gilbert, who you're related to.
Sean: Oh, that is so cool.
Kacey: No way!
Gayvin: Yeah, and that's how they made the pictures off of that.
Sean: That is so cool.
Wow, look at how crisp that is.
Gayvin: What's really cool about the tintype that I was showing Sean is that it was one of the original ways that photos were actually made.
Sean: She had some absolutely fantastic photos of actually our connecting relative back from 1874.
Gayvin: It's old, it's old.
- This is old, it doesn't look like, you know, kind of other sort of old photos and stuff.
It's so sharp and so crisp.
Gayvin: Yeah, go ahead, pass that to Kacey.
Sean: I was shocked when she pulled that-- told me, and then I saw the date on it, I was like-- I said, "I can't believe you don't have this, like, in a glass case."
I was like, this is the kind of thing you see in a museum.
And again, it was actually of someone I'm distantly related to, which just added to just the magnitude of the experience.
Wow!
- How cool that you have these!
This is, like, a look back into history!
This is, like, seriously, like, the coolest!
- Meeting Gayvin and Jack today was super, super awesome 'cause I didn't expect on this trip to meet a lot of people on my side of the family, let alone I got to meet a cousin on my dad's side of the family, so exploring our connection was just a really awesome treat.
♪ Anthony: Our mom seems a little nervous, so Joseph and I are really going out of our way to make sure that she feels comfortable.
Joseph: So, Mom, when I- when I look at you, I see someone who has been through so much, and someone who's, you know, lost a lot, but at the same time, I know you're so strong, and it's the same theme that I've seen throughout all our family, and most importantly you.
You're a fighter, you're a warrior.
[Ruth chuckling] - This is true.
- Yeah.
Ruth: I don't know how to feel right now.
It's like a flood of emotions.
It's like-- - It's okay.
We learned from our family over the past eight days that our mother has struggled with mental illness almost her whole life.
Bobbie: For Ruth, you know, she had a lot of mental issues.
If you saw it, you would understand.
- To see that was incredibly emotional.
I just want to let you know, Mom, that I see you and I see who you are.
I see your strength, I see your perseverance over the years.
I see... your love for Anthony and I.
And I just want to let you know that both Anthony and I, we feel that.
- That's amazing.
I love you guys, too.
- Yeah.
I can tell just how much she really loved my brother and I, and that was enough for me.
- It was more than enough.
She doesn't have to say anything to us, she doesn't have to really do anything.
- I'm just glad that she's in my life.
♪ Anthony: I see so many years you have just blamed yourself, and you have lived with regrets.
Ruth: And loss.
Anthony: And loss, and... you're feeling like you're in a place that you're stuck and you can't get out, like a deep well.

I knew this whole journey was for Monika, and I figured I'm just gonna go for it.

Monika: Okay, I'm going to introduce you.

- I got to introduce my biological mom to her sister for the very first time, and it was a really beautiful reunion.

It was a sister I really didn't know I had until a few weeks ago.
Having Monika introduce us made it even more special.

I looked at her and went wow.
You know, she's got the same color eyes, she's got the same nose, she's got the same smile.
So it was amazing for me.
I can't believe I have a sister that I didn't know about.

And it was amazing to see someone who looked like me after all these years.
Shelleye: Monika, you know your journey's ending on this, but I don't believe you've realized how many journeys you've opened, and mine's just opening.
I'm 62 years old and now just met my sister.

- So, we were able to take an oar of our choosing out of the obstacle course.

And I'm seeing the other teams all go, "Oh, that's a big benefit."
Team Blue, Dodgy Divers proved to be a real challenge for you two.
Joseph: Yeah.
I think the toughest part was finding a way around it and just helping each other out the best we can.
Dan: My hat's off to you, because you did adapt, you did overcome, and in the end, you also beat this challenge.

Sean: Um, today I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting my cousin, Gayvin and her son, Jack.
