Some folks like to call it Frellard.
I like to call it my neighborhood.
But I hear there's someone who knows a little bit more about this neighborhood than even I. Let's go meet him.
That's Frankie Feetsplinters.
And this is Colin.
And today, we're spending the day with him exploring Ballard and Fremont.
Colin, can you describe what it is you do?
Yeah, I run a sightseeing tours for locals and visitors alike.
Whoever is our tour guest, we try and take them around, show them things that are off the beaten path and kind of how the locals live and today we're here in Ballard.
Awesome.
Well, I'm a Ballard local.
I'm wondering, you got three fast facts about Ballard?
Well, let's start right here at the Nordic Heritage History Museum with Frankie Feetsplinter's right here, one of the six Thomas Dambo trolls.
Then you got the history, which is Scandinavian Norwegian culture.
Back in the day, they used to describe themselves as a drinking town with a fishing problem.
Lastly, and the most important aspect is the Locks.
I love the Locks.
Me too.
Can we check them out?
Let's go.
Let’s go!
The spot is so gorgeous.
I'm telling you, the Locks never get old.
What are some other spots you like to take people to?
Oh, the Snoqualmie River valley to see the Snoqualmie Falls is always very popular.
Even specialty stuff, like going to Kitsap, taking the ferries over.
Luxury Seattle city tours.
Really, whatever you can think of, we can do.
Incredible.
Well, I love to look at the water.
I bet I got a spot you've never seen before.
Let's go check it out.
So, Angela.
Yeah.
Just down there, Fisherman's Terminal, we have major industrial area.
And then it opens up to just this gorgeous spot right here, Gosh.
On the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
This is called the Fremont Cut.
Wow.
It is beautiful.
Little hidden gem.
That's what we're all about.
Well, welcome to Fremont.
Better well known as the center of the universe.
Hey, Angela, you know this is?
Lenin, right?
Yeah.
Vladimir Lenin.
This is six tons of bronze sculpted in what is now known as Slovakia, 1988 by Emil Venkov.
And it's actually for sale if anybody wants to buy it.
Last I heard, $250,000 or best offer.
The famous Gasworks Park.
Yeah, and if you didn't know in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You, Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger shot their paintball scene here.
Holy cow.
We finally made it to the world famous Fremont Troll.
Here we are.
Troll to troll.
Ballard to Fremont.
I even learn something new about my neighborhood.
Thank you so much Colin of Totally Seattle.
I'm Angela.
Thank you for exploring.
I'll see you.
