More than a dozen Jersey Shore towns that tried to boost summer business by extending their beach season ran into literal headwinds, rough surf and chilly temperatures this September. Boardwalk shops in Seaside Heights gave this year's "shoulder season" mixed reviews. But some saw a mini-boom; vacation rentals spiked as city folks sought refuge from COVID-19 down by the ocean.
