I'm the executive director of Family Freedom Center in Duluth, Minnesota.
It started with a dream, with the elders in our community that came together back in around 2014.
They started having conversations about the lack of ownership in the black community, and they wanted to develop pathways to ownership and pathways to increasing wealth within black families in the Duluth and the Twin Ports area abroad.
I think the biggest couple of words in our name is family, and I think that's the biggest portion of really what Family Freedom Center is about.
That's why it's the first word of our name.
Wealth and empowerment and ownership and knowledge.
All these things come from the family.
You know, people talk about generational wealth.
What does generational wealth look like?
It doesn't just mean, you know, having all the money in the world.
It means that the family itself is safe and secure and stable.
And from generation to generation, as families progress.
There is a, a solid path upwards in terms of what those families are able to accomplish.
And so what Family Freedom Center is, is a space for families to come together.
Our programs serve each generation of the family, but then also the family as a whole.
So we have a lot of multi-generational programing that we do that brings every generation from from the, the babies to the elders and everybody in between together.
