Clip: Season 5 Episode 22 | 3m 29sVideo has Closed Captions
Congressman, family urge release of ICE detainee needing Sickle Cell treatment.
It's rare that those in immigration detention come forward with their story, but the brother of a Uganda woman detained at Louisville's airport is speaking up. He and Lousiville's Democratic Congressman are pleading for her to be released from a jail in Grayson County, Kentucky so she can go to the hospital. Our June Leffler has more.

But the brother of a Uganda woman detained at Louisville's airport is speaking up.
He and Louisville's Democratic congressman are pleading for her to be released from a jail and Grayson County, Kentucky, so she can go to the hospital.
Our June Lefler is on top of that story and has this report.
Serafina Bukhara runs a nonprofit that provides health screenings for sickle cell disease in Uganda, a condition she has in the country she is from.
She was arrested by federal immigration agents a week ago at Louisville's airport, before she was set to fly to a sickle cell conference in California.
A few minutes later, she came out with the Ice agents and I noticed her putting the handcuffs on her.
So I stepped out of my vehicle and asked them what was going on.
She came to the U.S.
two years ago on a visa and eventually applied for asylum, says Louisville's congressman Morgan Mugabe.
Serafina shouldn't be there in the first place.
This woman has done nothing wrong.
She has never been charged with so much as a speeding ticket.
A letter from Bukhara details a decline in her health and a plea for better medical care.
I spoke with my sister, and, health was deteriorating.
This morning I received another phone call again from Maya, and she was telling me, like, she really needs the hospital.
And she said, the crisis started from my leg, so she couldn't use one of our legs.
And she is in a lot of pain at this point.
What I care about is medical attention.
You know, if at least she can get, the medical attention she needs, then we know she's going to be okay.
She is currently at Grayson County Detention Center.
The jailer wrote, quote, the detainee in question is currently receiving and has been receiving all the medications that she is prescribed, as well as medical attention, end quote.
But Mugabe wants more answers.
He wrote to Immigration and Customs Enforcement demanding body camera footage of here was arrest and other records documenting her detention.
She said that Ice agents hit her.
There are roughly 1200 Ice detainees in Kentucky's jails, and Mugabe's office is working with other families.
And what the Trump administration is doing is wrong.
And I have an amazing team, and we are doing casework every day, every night, to try to help people like Sarafina, people who are neighbors, people who are doing the right thing.
People who've never even been charged for the crime, who are being picked up and taken to places and sitting there for months and months on end.
And the stories are heartbreaking.
Earlier this week, Mugabe visited three inmates at Campbell County's detention center.
Mugabe said he also heard they are not getting their proper medications.
The jailer there wrote, quote, I find it incredulous that Mr.
Mugabe has the knowledge, education and audacity to judge the medical facility and care that we spend over $2 million a year to provide for the benefit of our visitors.
We are proud of the medical department.
End quote.
For Kentucky Edition, I'm John Lefler.
