Washington's public schools are struggling with how to reopen, even as the vaccine rollout continues in the state.
It's a complicated scenario.
There's pressure from parents groups, many who see their kids slipping behind in remote learning and want to see them back in classrooms.
School districts, encouraged by the state and Governor Jay Inslee, say it's safe to send students back for in-person learning.
More than 100 districts across Washington are already holding some in-person classes.
Teachers and school employees want to be fully vaccinated before they're back in school buildings with students.
Vaccine availability is something not even the governor can guarantee, but teachers are in line for vaccination in Washington state after the current groups.
Seattle Public Schools plans to bring preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students back into the classroom on March 1st, but that hinges on coronavirus transmission rates and negotiations between the district and the teachers' union.
