I go to Linden Avenue Middle School and I play piano.
("Sonatine" by Maurice Ravel) Today, I played "Sonatine", Movement One, Modéré, by Maurice Ravel.
It's an impressionistic piece of music.
And I remember my teacher showed me a painting called "The Water Lilies" by Claude Monet, and she pointed out how the colors are blended and how I need to portray that in the way I play this piece.
And rather than achieve a distinct photograph, achieve a feeling or experience.
(soft piano music) If you look at the music, it's very segmented and I found it hard connecting each section while maintaining the flow of the piece, but not rushing.
I think if you look, the right hand, the thumb and the second finger play fast 16th notes that creates sort of a shimmering effect to support the melody.
And that was hard to separate the hand into two parts.
(lively piano music) I'd definitely like to thank my teacher Suzanne Sawn for nominating me and being so dedicated in helping me bring this piece to life.
And my practice buddy Wan Chen Wu for supporting me and being so patient in working with me a lot.
And my mom, she's a musician too and she's helped me so much.
(soft piano music)
