My name is Anna.
I'm a zookeeper at the Lake Superior Zoo, and we're here at our in goal and call of this exhibit, And we're going to be feeding them today.
So one unique thing about colobus is that their hands are specifically designed to swing through trees, really efficiently.
But it also means that they don't have an opposable thumbs.
So when we make their food here at the zoo, we try to make sure that their pieces are big enough and long enough so that they can hold it without it being uncomfortable, because they can't really hold on to kind of smaller chunks So I have some of their yam pieces here.
We keep track of which foods our animals like the most.
So that when we're feeding, we know, like, what's really high value and what's low value.
So I know that out of all the food that I have here, the thing they care most about is the yam.
In a sense, it's difficult to enrich primates because they are just so smart.
They can figure out almost like anything that you give them.
Like if you hide their food or put it in a puzzle feeder, they can figure it out pretty quickly, but it also makes it kind of easier to enrich them then, because you can be so creative with it.
