Feet!♪ ♪I've got two feet!♪ ♪I've got two feet and they're really neat!♪ ♪But what can I do?♪ ♪I've only got two.♪ ♪What can I do with my two feet?♪ Hmmm.
I think I've got it.
We can take giant steps like this.
♪♪♪ You can do that.
Come along.
Let's take giant steps together.
♪♪♪ (children) Hmmm.
♪♪♪ (children) Feet!
(girl #1) F-E-E-T.
Feet.
What can you do with your feet and legs?
Well, you can stand.
And you can walk.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) Walk.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) Walk backward.
♪♪♪ What else?
(boy #1) Hop.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) Run.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) March.
♪♪♪ I don't know what he's doing.
Tip-toe.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) Stomp.
♪♪♪ Anything else?
(boy #1) Jump.
♪♪♪ (boy #1) Stand on one foot.
♪♪♪ [laughing] You know, I like all the things I can do with my feet and legs.
How about you?
But you know what?
I think I like this most of all.
[water trickling] Ahhh.
♪♪♪ (boy #2) First you have to pull off your shoes.
Then after that the teacher has to paint your feet.
♪♪♪ (boy #2) You can paint your feet orange, blue, and green.
Then after that, you've got to walk on the paper.
♪♪♪ (boy #2) Then after that, you go and sit back down and you wash your feet.
♪♪♪ (female #1) Ready?
Here it goes.
Is it cold?
Does it tickle?
It tickles!
You're the first one that said it tickles.
(boy #3) That's my feet.
♪♪♪ (female #1) Good job, Patrick!
Very good.
Alright.
How did that feel?
Was that good?
(boy #2) You've got to walk on the paper.
(female #1) Alright, was that hard work?
Ready?
Need some help?
♪♪♪ (boy #2) I've got five toes.
How many toes do you have?
Feet!
(Mr. Chuck) I have two feet.
And two legs.
See?
Can you think of something else that has two legs?
[quacking] Quack, quack.
How about a duck?
Ducks have two legs and two feet.
And you know, friends, some animals have more than two legs.
Can you name an animal that has more than two legs?
[horse neighing] How many legs does this horse have?
Four legs.
That's right.
Can you think of another animal that has four legs?
[cow mooing] Have you ever seen a cow?
A cow has four legs.
You know some creatures have even more than four legs.
Can you think of something that has more than four?
Did you know that insects have six legs?
Look at this ant.
Let's count its legs.
Six.
That's right.
That's a lot of legs.
But wait!
I know of a creature that has even more than six legs.
♪♪♪ Hey!
It's a spider.
That's right!
Do you know how many legs a spider has?
Well, here's a spider, so let's count its legs.
Eight legs.
How would you like to have eight legs?
♪Hey, hey, hey♪ (male #1) Hey, everybody.
Let's get ready for Animal Action.
One, two, three, four.
Everybody walk.
♪♪♪ Move your feet.
♪♪♪ That's good.
♪♪♪ Now just do what the animals do.
♪♪♪ Move your head.
♪♪♪ Try this.
♪♪♪ Can you stand on one foot?
♪♪♪ Now flap your wings and fly away.
[duck quacking] ♪How would you dance if you were an elephant?♪ ♪How would an elephant dance?♪ Well, he'd have to have a trunk.
Put his hands together like this.
And he would move.
Swinging his trunk.
♪♪♪ ♪How would you dance if you were a robot?♪ ♪How would a robot dance?♪ I imagine with stiff legs and stiff arms like this.
♪♪♪ ♪How would you dance if you were a chicken?♪ ♪How would a chicken dance?♪ Oh.
It'd have to have wings, like this.
Oh and his legs would be scratching around with his feet at work.
[chickens clucking] ♪♪♪ ♪How would you dance if you were a penguin?♪ ♪How would a penguin dance?♪ Well.
♪♪♪ Well, that's the way some things would dance.
Maybe you can think of others.
♪♪♪ (Mr. Chuck) How would you like to walk around in these everyday?
Well, what do people wear on their feet?
How about socks?
And shoes of course.
Jogging shoes.
♪♪♪ Dancing shoes.
♪♪♪ Cowboy boots.
♪♪♪ Sandals.
♪♪♪ Work boots.
♪♪♪ Snow boots.
♪♪♪ And how about just plain old tennis shoes?
Ahhh.
That's a bit more like it.
When your feet feel good, you feel good all over.
Why, I feel so good, I'd like to move my feet a little.
You move with me, okay?
Let's do the hokey-pokey, okay?
Okay.

My name is Ronnie Mosley.
I'm here to introduce a friend of mine.
His name is Ronnie the clown.
But before you can see him, I have to make a few changes.
[snaps] ♪♪♪ [cheering and clapping] I'm Ronnie the Clown.
And my name is Ronnie Mosley.
Sometimes I change.
And sometimes I change.
Some of us change more than others.
(male #1) ♪Sometimes I laugh.
Ha!♪ ♪Sometimes I cry.
Mmm.♪ ♪Sometimes I smile.♪ ♪And I don't know why.♪ ♪Sometimes I'm happy.♪ ♪And sometimes I'm sad.♪ ♪And sometimes I just so mad.♪ ♪But usually I just make a funny face.♪ ♪♪♪ ♪Sometimes I'm happy.♪ ♪Sometimes I'm sad.♪ ♪And sometimes I'm sleepy and I wish I had a pillow.♪ ♪Sometimes I laugh.♪ ♪And sometimes I cry.♪ ♪Sometimes I smile♪ ♪Just because it feel nice.♪ ♪Sometimes I smile and I don't know why.♪ ♪♪♪ On today's show we've had fun moving our feet.
And while jumping, skipping, and dancing may seem like child's play to some adults, it can be serious business for our children.
On today's show we have Dr. Susan Dold, an early childhood specialist, to talk with us about how important our children's physical motion can be.
Young children need to move.
Many researchers have found that play is actually the work of the child.
That in playing, in moving and running and jumping and kicking a ball, young children are not just developing their bodies.
But they're also developing their minds.
As a young child marches to music or walks to a beat, that child is actually preparing himself to be a reader.
They're learning about rhythm, about syllabication, about the natural rise and fall of language, so they're better able to attack new words when they see them.
To read with some expression and some fluency.
The mental development of a child really depends upon the physical development.
The two go hand in hand.
As a child develops mentally, then he's also developing physically.
As they use both sides of the brain, they're strengthening the connections between the sides of the brain and they're using new skills and new knowledges that they might not have developed if they hadn't been able to use their bodies as well.
So, physical development is critical for a child.
Play is essential for children.
The fact that they're able to walk and jump and run and skip is a very important indicator of both physical and mental growth.
I'm so glad you could join me today.
Who would have thought feet could be so much fun?
We learned a song about feet.
We talked about the different kinds of things people wear on their feet.
And many of the things we can do with our feet and legs.
Oh, right now it's time for me to be running along.
