- Cordelia Fredrickson: My name is Cordelia Fredrickson.

I'm 17 and a senior at the Wisconsin Virtual Academy.

I've been playing violin for 14 years.

I started when I was three-and-a-half years old.

I really enjoy the collaborative aspect that music has, and also it's such a nice feeling to be able to play something beautiful that the audience will also enjoy.

- Professor Janet Sung: A little bit more volume now.

- Cordelia: My violin teacher is Professor Janet Sung at DePaul University.

[bright violin music] - Okay, good, I love this.

I wonder, can.. - I've been studying with her for about six years.

- Prof.

Sung: Because of that, you're able to actually keep building your energy through, right?

- Cordelia: I met her at a master class that my youth orchestra was hosting.

- Right, so that creates this kind of change of energy in the sound, okay?

- Cordelia: I think she is an amazing teacher.

She is a person I admire a lot.

[bright violin music] I will be performing the Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.

1, the first movement.

Professor Sung introduced me to the idea of playing the Prokofiev, but when I first listened to it, I kind of felt connected to it immediately.

The beginning is a very dreamy character, almost like it's up in the clouds.

And then, when you keep moving forward, it becomes a bit more like an evil little elf.

[bright violin music] I enjoy tying all of that together to make a story.

I also think it just sounds so cool!

I enjoy baking and spending time with my family.

Sometimes, I will bake by myself, but I prefer doing it with other people, especially my little sister, Charlotte.

It makes it a lot more fun.

I've started volunteering at the Madison Children's Museum.

I really enjoy seeing the different creative things that the little kids are making, and I wanted to give back to the place that was my favorite place to play at when I was younger.

[bright violin music] I think bringing out the musicality and really making it so that the audience feels what you are trying to show everyone is one of the most challenging but most enjoyable parts of playing violin.

And it's such a great feeling when you can portray what you want to the audience.
