Senator Bob Menendez's seat.
In a statement on Thursday, Democratic Senator Dick Codey backed Murphy, describing her as a, quote, qualified, deserving and a driven person, saying the first lady has been a force within the governor's administration, arguing she spends more time in Trenton than some elected officials who are paid to be there.
Murphy, though, hasn't confirmed whether she'll run for the seat.
But according to reports from NJ Globe a political website in her name was registered last week and social media pages for her campaign are in the works.
If she does enter the race, she'll face progressive activist Larry Hamm and sitting Congressman Andy Kim, who tossed his hat in the ring a day after Menendez was indicted.
If elected, Murphy would be New Jersey's first female U.S. senator and the only first lady to win an election to that seat.
