- Some of these veterans flew the same airplane that we have taken them flying in.
And I am always struck at how poorly equipped I am to truly appreciate the reality of what they went through.
These were kids on the other side of the country, they'd probably never been out of their hometown before, and they're sleeping in tents at night and getting shot at every day.
And it's humbling and I, again, just can't imagine what they've gone through.
