Flood survivors still looking for housing, had the opportunity to apply for an affordable high ground home and Floyd County.
On Thursday, we spoke to one survivor who says she is ready to get out of the flood plain and into one new home.
This is a homebuyer program intended to help people get connected with housing that is safe and affordable.
And out of the flood plain.
There's actually two different programs going on.
There's the buy out program with FEMA.
And then there's the new housing program.
And we are the follow through.
We're doing the intake for folks who are affected by the floods in 2021 and 2022.
We were we were awarded money to to acquire some property on Cliff Road impressions burg.
This is a come and go type of event to sit down with them to give them more information specifically about this project, about the program, how they can get connected with the case manager, how they can get an awareness and an overview of the eligibility process so that they can start the process of intake for this site.
I looked at another project at Wayland.
I did a little drive by and saw their homes and they looked so, so cute and simple and and just effective of of exactly what I need to live in.
My first flood story was in 2021, I believe January, and although it didn't get in my home, it got underneath my home.
And then in 2022 it did get in the home and I had to leave and stay gone a few days.
Actually.
My house, which I love, I don't want to move, but I would like to pick it up and put it somewhere, but it's already eight or nine cinder blocks high and it's still coming in.
I live so close to my daughter and it got in her on her property, but not in her home.
So I moved here because I was so close to her.
Logistically.
So now I have to find a place to move further away that I really don't want to move at all.
There's a lot of folks that this will help impact and keep them in forward county that are not having to pack up and move to Lexington, where another family member lives or somewhere else.
We want them.
We want we want them here.
This is home.
This is my home.
This is their home.
They want to stay here as much as I do.
And we're going to do everything we can to try to keep them here.
I'm very thankful for the opportunity to get to be a part of this process.
I sure hope that I get a home.
I hope but I also hope that if there's somebody more in need than I am, that they get it first.
I'm not a take me first kind of person.
I'll wait my turn.
FAHEY Housing and Homes Inc. are expected to build three more than 40 homes at the site as part of the Housing Can't Wait initiative.
