It's the MPA boy's class, D state championship between the Southern Aroostook, Warriors and the Forest Hills Tigers Welcome back to the Cross Insurance Center Im Brent Steve along with coach Ken Lindlof We have one in the works and another on tab Southern Aroostook looking to make it a clean sweep here in the Class D state championship games and these two teams a couple of high powered offenses.
Oh yeah.
We should see a high scoring game.
I think maybe the highest scoring game of any of the classes in this year's state championship.
Both of them need to get out to fast starts.
They have big first quarter so somebody is going to have to play from behind, which they're not used to doing.
Forest Hills coming in with a record of 15 in three on the regular season.
They are the number one seed out of the south and so that are rustic, looking to take home the gold ball for the second year in a row.
This two is a rematch of last year's State Championship game.
So we had a rematch in Game one and now another rematch here in game two.
Force Forest Hills looking to turn the Tide has changed the script from last year's game for sure.
Right now let's turn things over to Jim Banes on the sideline.
Jim.
All right.
Thank you very much, Coach Amaro.
You got eight players on your varsity roster.
How do you make it work with the only eight?
Well, we've got the eight into two of our eighth graders.
So our enrollment this year was in about 42 students in our high school.
So we find a way, but thankfully, we get a lot of alumni players that come in when they're at home.
So we get up to ten guys and get all those coming to an end.
And then let's play.
That's positive.
You've had some success over the years that kind of breeds more success.
Definitely it does.
And I think, you know, what I'm very proud of is that the guys really, you know, they never leave the program for good.
You know, last time practice to get a 10th guys, got a dad, one of the guys that coached and that was father, he played for me 20 years ago and now he's in there helping us out last night.
So we have ten guys to scrimmage.
So it's really kind of a special thing.
I like to talk about how old we are, but we got to get to the opposition.
Scouting the Warriors.
Tell us what you see.
Tell us what concerns you.
I see a very good team and the shooters concern me.
Five guys that can shoot the three or five guys that take to the rack.
They do very well in that dribble drive, very well coached and as good or better than they were last year.
So we got to work cut out for us.
Okay, Tony, good luck to you.
Things are very good.
And we'll talk to Coach Russell just a minute.
All right.
Thank you very much, Jim.
As we take a look at the road to the goal for each of these teams.
Take a look at how both these teams got here at the Forest Hills Tigers at 15 and three losing to only their loss to three classy schools.
No one points scored, no one in points allowed the same thing on the other side for Southern Aroostook, no one in northern Maine, average 75 points and gave up only 36.
Look at the point differential of both teams that both familiar with winning the state championships on online southern Aroostook beat Jones for Beals Bangor Christian Mathias in the tournament the link on line and for the Tigers it was Pine Tree Academy Seacoast Christian and valley Once again here is Jim Banks check you are okay Brant Russell first get the link you put your coach John I want to put your dad hat on for a second there you got a girl who got a gold ball in her senior year that's got to be immensely proud moment for you.
Yeah I couldn't be more proud of Maddie.
You know she's had a great career here.
I think that's her third gold ball three been her senior year and all her mother and I are so proud of her.
And now we're just hoping her little brother can come out of here with one now.
So, Scottie, the Tigers, you I'm sure you watched the video.
What do you see what worries you?
You know, we've we've played them last year.
Not a lot different.
You know, this year, though, they're a little older, a little smarter, you know, a little stronger.
So we're gonna have control tempo.
We're going to have to control the boards and play inside.
And I think, you know, if we play inside, outside that game, I think we'll be fine.
All right.
Very good.
Well, good luck to you, brother.
Thank you.
Right back to you.
All right.
Thank you very much, Chairman Richard, it can be the point differential so that trusting averaging on the regular season around 30 points more than their apollo-ridge.
The other side forest hills just shy just over another 27 points during the regular season.
Yes both of these teams are used to winning and winning big right the 33. shot is big for both teams in the tournament Forest Hills made 28 threes as a three games and the Southern Ruzek made 21 so both teams are going to let it fly the three point shot long rebounds the pressure defense is the signature of both teams really so it's a great matchup both teams will get after it.
Both teams know each other well last year's game, Southern Trust had a couple of runs, went on a couple of runs and were able to take care of business down the stretch.
What are the concerns for Coach Anthony Amaro?
Is is the fact that Coach Russell can go to so many different players?
They have five points in so many different places.
Well, yeah, you know, Forest Hills is as used to, you know, the other team having being deeper, but they rely quite a bit.
We have one we have a couple of stars here in this game.
And for Forest Hills, it's Mason Desjardins.
He's number 11.
You better start guarding him when he comes over halfcourt because he will let it fly.
And the whole their whole offensive attack runs through him for Southern Russa They have an outstanding guard in Dillon Burpee.
He's number five.
He's a guard.
Flash forward.
Looks like he's a little bigger than he was last year.
So he's going to be tough to handle as well.

First, the team members for the Southern Maine champion Forest Hills Tigers coached by Anthony Amaro.
Eighth grader number 28 and Neto eighth grader number 22 Maddox Cutie and a junior number 25 Leo Campbell and now the team members for the Northern Maine champion and home to southern Aroostook Community School Warriors coached by Brendan Russell a freshman, Dylan Bouchard senior A.J.
Chambers sophomore Ethan Collier sophomore Ryder Russell freshman.
Lincoln Hardy freshman Richard Chambers Junior Brendon Burpee and a senior AJ Lewis And now the starting lineup for this class, the state championship game, first for Forest Hills, that guard a sophomore, number two, Blaine Neto and for Southern Aroostook, Ed Gardner Senior and a Captain No.
Zero Drake Western from Forest Hills.
Up forward, a junior number three Cooper Daigle from Southern Aroostook Forward a junior.
Number five Dillon Burpee from Forest Hills.
That guard a junior.
Number ten, Brayden Welch from Southern Aroostook at guard US Senior Captain Number 14 Buddy Porter from Forest Hills That guard a senior captain Number 11 Mason Desert in from Southern Aroostook Ed Gardner Sophomore No 15 Trafton Russell and for the Forest Hills Tigers at forward a senior number 44 Hiram Lodge Stay and for the southern Aroostook community school warriors at forward a senior captain number 32 grams Celeste officials for tonight's contest are Mr. Prescott, Mr. Clark and Mr. Brooks certified athletic training services are provided by Northern Lights Sports Health So Forest Hills will start one sophomore, a couple of juniors and a couple of seniors in all the other side Southern Aroostook will have three seniors on the floor, one sophomore and one junior each.
And before that, Forest Hills lost to Southern Aroostook in the state title game last year.
But certainly Forest Mills no stranger to winning state championships as they won it in 19 and 20 as well.
No tournament of course in 21.
Those are just the most recent wins for Forest Hills.
The toss is up and the ball comes away to some good to rustic and we are underway in the boys class D State Championship game.
Forest Hills and man to man and immediately Kevin Porter off the class 42 right to the rack here's the garden hill that Desjardins won three find him early Porter on the dribble so great Weston Weston will take it to the rack No good rebound comes away to Forest Hills Pushing it up his Desjardins He is fouled He's going to be called by trusted Russell fell in love on a regular and drafted Russell picks up the first foul of the game Forest Hills looking for their first points of the game comes out deep to Welch We'll kick it right side and Desjardins hits the three in third quick release by Desjardins And that's a set play run for him 36 points in last year's state final game so he had a heck of a tournament in the south the turnover down goes back to Forest Hills He will shoot early and often gardens at 21 points in the quarter final 33 of the semis 27 finals turnover by Forest Hills is a whistle for travel.
Desjardins has scored over 1500 points in his career Yeah.
He comes from a family of similar type players probably somebody you want to keep an eye on.
Yeah ball lost out of bounds says Cam Porter could not hang onto his brother.
Parker Desjardins plays at Thomas College driving home and it's Desjardins is set to screen for him and he didn't use the screen he faked like he was going to use it did a little inside out dribble and went to the ref was off right side the puppy puppy in the lane off the front of the room dribble put up him in by six and Burpee has his size advantage over Brayden Welch He's going to give him all he can handle Desjardins Another rainbow shot from way out deep off the front of the rim that is Burpee.
Burpee spins his way off the glass for two until the bench by Welch.
But this the size differential picks up his first two points on Burpee.
The tourney MVP is there's this chance you better get somebody on the other side of that screen to to help out or make him change direction.
Eight to six forest hills after school with helmet of around 42.
Yeah that's incredible shot from the corner nothing there forest hills with the lead and the ball just gardens certainly getting some attention dribbles around the defender has it knocked loose picked up by Forest Hills now stolen away by some adversity and a foul is going to be called the bucket will come still in burpee you try to make it a three point play Courtney Love is there always on Welch first followed Walsh first team pile Burpee makes the fall short So Southern Aroostook now takes the lead Desjardins is fouled as Cam Porter having a hard time containing Desjardins walking running order in gardens He does not need a whole lot of room to shoot He gets the shot off pass goes underneath Cooper table Good job on the offensive glass at time by Daigle He can put some points up as well He had 19 of the regional final pass scores over two Burpee goal Daigle rebounding at both ends it's gardens behind the back hasn't taken away ball scramble for and now we've got a foul right he's going to go against break Braiden Welch hey you know Brady Welch is a high energy guy but he just picked up his second foul deservedly so something he may want to watch Forest Hills not quite as much depth working underneath his crib sills didn't have a whole lot of room to maneuver, but we found a way students picked up a couple of screens that time, two ball screens a that one short scramble on the floor, a couple of players diving for it right out of bounds off Forest Hills.
Coach Brett Russell having a late conversation with the official oh, he gives over and out of curfew quarter.
It's a back pull up jumper, left baseline nothing more and knocked out of bounds unable to save it There's hustle by Cooper Daigle for Forest Hills But out of bounds it'll be warrior basketball yeah so it's an out front to western to Celts makes it back to Russell driving into the lane bumper he hits a two head Dylan Burpee does a great job of taking the ball where he wants to go just a couple dribbles.
He has a nice little seven foot shot in the lane, seven points for Dylan.
Herbie huddled up along the baseline was Mason Desjardins.
Yeah, he's attracting the crowd, and as soon as he puts the ball down on the floor, he's going to get a guy.
This defender, plus another running right at him, comes out deep to Welch.
Desjardins Quick release corner.
Nothing there.
This one's, though, back to Southern Aroostook oh so Desjardins not finding success the last 23 trips down the floor so there the risk shot from the corner no good bye perfect Desjardins has it stripped teammate gets it back then loses about out good hands good hands on defense at time Buddy Porter also Weston.
Here we go.
Here it is.
The lay by Graham Sills.
Yeah they seem to want to go post up tilts inside has a little height advantage over Cooper Daigle lane planted that double bounce Now Desjardins is going to score.
You just have to make him work hard for his points.
Put him in situations where he has to make difficult shots Mentioned this being a rematch of last year gone for Forest Hill starters Jackson de go from last year Chris Caswell and Hunter Burpee starters for southern Aroostook pull up left baseline and Desjardins connects again Duff's tough shot off the dribble going to his left is able to create space left 12 three point lead for southern Aroostook Turtle Desjardins forcing the issue dumps it off to Blaine Meadows for his first two points of the game play by Desjardins.
He played through the contact and went all the way to the rim was able to lay it off to Neto stilts with it off the glass four to eight points facilitates a big part of their game plan early is getting the ball inside to self It's been successful.
We talked about first quarter leads.
Both both teams have had explosive first quarters all the way through the tournament shot missed by walch.
So the rustic bringing it the other way under a minute to play a quick first quarter no to get out how to western that's on the right side a was to Russell 40 seconds on the clock Popping out right side closing splits again sills takes it strong to the hoop off the glass four to ten points with this quarter get the ball right inside Five point lead now for southern Aroostook circuit around.
Spinning off the glass to stall but he's fouled Hooper Daigle will go to the line to shoot oh so I was going to be on his stilts and it's his first 13 five on the line to shoot is Hooper Daigle Daigle connects you coming into the game is recently here Daigle misses his second foul shot southern Aroostook with a four point lead and the ball here the closing moments of quarter one still travels so Forest Hills will have a chance last crack at the basket here in the first quarter I think I know where the ball's going you could shoot any of it does this miss 19 to 15 is the end of the first quarter We'll take a break and be back to the crossing cheering center.

Our director Frank Welch and our table producer Curt Chatman all a cast of thousands to bring you championship basketball as Desjardins drives into the lane and is fouled out named after Porter inserted.
Oh, sorry, buddy.
Porter picks up the foul.
That is his second first team foul Desjardins gives off to Welch Knocked out of bounds will remain with the Tigers Back into the ball game is drafted Russell Dunn run and Russell Gardens will take the three for way outside is an easy solution if you're guarding him he just goes back a couple steps oh distance is too far seems like driving in the right side.
Is Dillon perfect.
That's too easy a basket to give up for forest hills.
Coach Amaro has to be concerned with that Desjardins floater in the lane after round picked up by just gardens and he immediately turns around and throws up the shot to see if they go inside to Sayles again.
Oh, the three pointer put up by Burpee Alex battle for and I believe Out of bounds was so the trusted player so to get the ball to forest hills Desjardins drives it loses it, picks it back up spins no good rebound off the glass no good for a Logsdon still gets it back Forest Hills player let it go thinking that it had been tipped But I don't believe there had been any contact and I sure felt the same way see the folks of the Tigers outfit didn't agree with that it was the orange hats aren't happy.
Oh see it's pretty well if you saw that on the monitor there Mr. Wolf I think I see I think I've seen the outfit that he should be wearing the coach.
Amaro may have to consider trying to front the post because they're having an easy time getting the ball inside the cells nailed the first team's first Daigle picks up the foul that is his first 13 foul against the Tigers Russell gets the ball in Porter loses it off his foot and he goes out of bounds actually had burpee was open setting a screen then rolling to the rim six 15 to play here in the first half of action in this class D state championship game as Jardins tracks a crowd ball take it away quickly the up ahead from Russell he goes to west and lays it in for two jarhead three guys guarding and then they're going to line up three guys cross the top five Trey Preston jump his first two points and Desjardins loses it on his foot so like that so that Aroostook is an eight point lead it stretches out to ten maybe even 11 right inside stilts with it good folks are back out to quarter 43 inside out into Celts back out to Porter by West Gardens Gives it up shot okay by Neto We were off to the races we go so that a rooster western with it goes off right side Russell a little spot up for the three off the back of the ire taken down by western Oh Russell loses it bad scramble on the floor and Forest Hills comes up with the ball and we'll have a player control foul on Desjardins as he lowered the shoulder Good job anticipating by craft and Russell that time picks up the offensive foul Jason Desjardins picks up his first foul for foul against the Tigers Right inside selects the right blocks to back out now to burpee shot Oh good Ross out of bounds they say it's lost touch by southern Aroostook Host Southern Aroostook keeps up with their two man game tilts and burpees sometimes quarter in the quarter it goes Welch the shot nothing there that people are going to have to make shots other than Desjardins Desjardins gives their first points of the second quarter almost midway through the second quarter for the tigers right inside so to a little on the right side still as low as the shoulder can't get the first in the goal.
The follow up is in the sense that contact elicited the ire of the Tigers fans behind us a foul is going to be called again southern Aroostook Here we go again.
Here comes the hills on the tag team drafted Russell was called for his second foul that is the fifth foul timeout taken It's a reminder to the state final game for being streamed live and for free on the Maine public basketball Facebook page Maine public YouTube you can watch on your mobile device, your computer or your smart TV anywhere you are search to the public basketball or head to Maine public.
Org for all of the links to find your free school made public Well, we got ourselves a dandy brewing here.
I think Forest Hills is just a couple of possessions away.
You know, they're always on the verge of and particularly with Desjardins.
And, you know, you know, leaders say you're up against Forest Hills with Coach Hammer on this to figure out how he's going to handle the low post presence of sales.
Either he's got a double him with the ball goes inside.
Right now he's just covering in single coverage with Cooper Daigle and kilts is having his way.
Desjardins has 33 pointers so far in this game.
They had a 4.4. line.
I think he probably would have a couple of those.
Yeah.
Just halfway through the second quarter, Desjardins gives it off to begin have a player control foul on Creighton on the Hooper.
They go on.
They go put his shoulder down at that time.
So that's a that's an easy indicator for an official two fouls now on the Beagle so here well each have a couple filters out now in now is Brendan Murphy a three pointer is put in by Dylan Byrd so they still continue with the two man game into the post and kick back out the corner cutting down the way and being rejected.
Dylan Burpee getting a hand on backing up after the little Bob Dylan throwing hits another three just like that.
It is a 16 point lead for Southern Aroostook and a steal Russell after the races crossover dribble kicks No basket We have a poor control foul called on Cooper Daigle That will be his third pick is going to be a Neto I think this is it yeah now on the dish off I think it's a bit of the foul on the pass or after the pass So that's the first on Neto how a foul is going to be whistled against Hiram Logsdon in the one on one now it'll be his first team seven more and more I want to know the history of the team circle on the way to shoot is Dylan Berkman because one burpee makes the first one that you hear was the William C winner reward tourney MVP here in the north 38 18 in and out dribble dished off after class foul call Cooper Daigle will go to the line to shoot a floater No Dylan Burpee picks up the first foul of the game for him The sixth team of the line to shoot a couple now is Cooper Daniels.
For Justin Collier back into the game sophomore for Coach Russell Southern Aroostook Hagelin missed the second foul shot down where to call it here out on top Is it Weston Give it into the corner Turn around.
Tough shot put up by burpee Dylan Burpee for stills The rebound Desjardins three had a 32nd timeout taken by the warriors of Southern Aroostook leading by 1638 22 basis Dejan wasn't open by much or for long but the little penetrate and then the deep three right now the tigers finding the lion's share of their scoring coming from the hands of Mason Desjardins I've got to say that somebody else is going to need to get involved in the audience have got to find a complimentary contributor here who for Daigle can do do the job inside Brayden Welch can make some shots players with the ball and the lead shot put up in this by getting Bobby Collier it's lost out of bounds by the Warriors for the Brayden Welch as we describe his high energy this so now they're playing this garden off the ball so they can pass it to him he doesn't have to bring the ball up against all that pressure that's a high intensity game and coach Amaro has not gone to his bench shot his short forest hills off to the races.
Desjardins drags Jared's stutter step, kicks it underneath all along there is Hiram Loxton for his two first two points in the game.
We got to protect the rim and good vision that time by Jared Desjardins has to know that with two or three people on him, somebody is hoping the trick is to find he did so on that last possession and the bucket there.
Why Dillon Burpee And he also draws the foul that was burpees burpees time to shine in the pose This time you save her long standing that is found over two on him 85 31 from having a seat burpee Brendon Burpee stilts back into the game for coach Russell Desjardins behind the back He's done that a couple of times but a defender is there to greet him a loose scramble forward Nobody wants to pick it up and now so the rooster does so shut up in here by Dillon Burpee Run Away by Diego for sales can ill afford turnovers like that unforced turnovers 19 point lead for the warriors of Southern rustic with 15 seconds remaining here in the first half go right back inside to sales go silks spins nothing there to go the rebound I am running out Desjardins with it gets it across midcourt fall is loose and no shot will be taken That ends the first half of play with southern Aroostook leading at 43 24 We'll take a break and we'll be back in just a few moments Production a high school basketball on Maine public television is made possible by people like you and they expect the unexpected at the university of Maine at Presque Isle committed to providing an affordable education with a personalized experience full of discovery and innovation.

Brant Stevens, along with Coach Kendall Coffey, Jim Baynes and a 43 24 lead for Southern Aroostook as the teams talk things over into the locker room.
But I think what one of them Tony Ambrose, coach for Forest Hills one of his concerns those runs by southern rustic and that's a nice job of that Yeah they sure have they've they've bottled up Desjardins they've they've made him work for his points they've they've turned they've turned him over and some of the other players for Forest Hills Forest Hills has not been able to find somebody to complement Desjardins.
And on the other end Southern Russet doing a great job of getting the ball inside to Celts and playing a two man game with a with a post in the wing.
All right.
Our third member of our broadcast team, Jim Baynes, is sidelined.
Jim.
All right.
Brant Mitchell, every year we try to do this in Bangor.
It's become tradition around here.
The Eastern Maine Television Sports Summit right here we got just about every network covered right here.
We got there from Fox 22 add ABC seven year Tyler Crews.
We got Ben Barr from the CW and Channel five.
And of course, we have to have Ready Clokey from the Star City AGM Channel eight here.
We got to go with the rookie year.
Well, technically, you're rookie by default, really a year and a half.
Very good.
But you got here every channel seven and 22.
What?
Right.
The middle of October two.
That could not have been easy for sportscaster right.
In the fall of 20, 21 a lot of zooms out masks inside.
Hard to really do like standups you couldn't really find anywhere.
But it was right when they were letting fans back in, right when they were letting kind of things were getting back to normal.
So it's nice to see that transition to back to normalcy and now you're in New England, kid.
You're from Rhode Island.
They're got a similar vibe with high school sports down in the we do here.
But do you think it's a little bigger, a little more big deal here?
What are your thoughts?
When I first saw the basketball tournament here, I was like, there's nothing like it at the high school level down Rhode Island.
I mean, basketball is it.
It's huge up here.
And it surprised me coming from a state where I thought basketball was pretty big.
It's huge up here.
The people get into it.
I love it.
What wait.
First of all, you only got about ten square miles of Rhode Island to start with or something like that.
So where do they play?
They must play the whole thing in Providence, I'm assuming, right?
Oh, they play some at Rick and then they play some at the Ryan Center.
At your eye.
So they pick the schools and they do it there.
We got a similar question for the Pennsylvania guy over here, Ben Barnes out there.
You came up here, you knew that high school sports is going to be a big deal here.
And then you experience it yourself.
Why do you think?
Well, the tournament season in itself is probably the craziest.
Back to back to back forever and ever and ever at that I've ever been a part of.
You have five classes here with all the fan bases coming out has been just absolutely insane.
It's been a really great scene to be a part of and just learn, you know, day by day, really.
It's been about a year and a half Sam as Tyler.
So right there.
Allow me one more question.
What's got to go do the king over here?
I spent the last week in a row with to county on business.
I got to saw some of your workout with is great stuff about there just tell us about how important sports is to tourist accounting.
Well I think it shows here with the southern Aroostook bands of Dire Brook fans are all here today and not only dire Brooke, but the whole area has come down.
Sports up there is still huge.
Still go to all the high school games.
I mean, it's like everyone from the county polls for each other and that just makes such a difference for our teams up in every state.
You have a story about how the Eastern Gym has a new we'll have a new floor and you spend about four or 5 minutes on that.
I think it says it all right.
There well, it says it all.
That's the barn.
That's the iconic gym and Aroostook County.
And they're going to renovate it, which is going to be phenomenal.
We get these guys up there some point, maybe at some point, I'll give them directions.
Very good.
Yeah.
Gentlemen, thanks for joining us once again.
It's the 2023 Eastern made sportscaster summit right here.
I made public TV.
Bryant, back to you.
All right.
Thank you very much, Jim.
As we take a look at some of the numbers from the first half of play coach.
Yeah, let's take a look.
Big time advantage in terms of production, in terms of field goal percentage.
Southern Russa well over 56%.
But if you look at where their shots are coming from, right around the basket for 44 from the line turnovers only eight.
Forest Hills turnovers a has been a problem in the first half with 15 field goal percentage low.
A lot of contested shots and off balance shots does Jarden can explode at any time but he's taken some tough shots right now so that Frostick has done a really nice job working that inside outside game going into salts especially in the opening up that the outside in the second quarter they connected on 33 second quarter especially outscored them 24 to nine and went on an extended run really and does Jarden looks up and they change their defense in the second quarter and they put three guys up top.
So wherever Desjardins went, he had one plus at least one other guarding him so it made it very difficult for him.
I thought they might take him off the ball and try to pass it to him.
They try.
They tried that one time that didn't go, so they're going to dance with who they brung for us, Till's having to do a better job of taking care of the ball as well.
With 15 turnovers in that first half, nearly double the turnovers in Southern Aroostook at both Forest Hills not being so deep, they're really not pressuring defensively.
They're they're kind of playing a really a position defense are trying to kind of sag and take away driving lanes but they've been able to southern Aroostook has get the ball inside the sails and play a two man game in the post.
All right we're going to take a time out and we'll be back with the second half of play in just a moment.

Nothing better.
So the first 4 minutes of this third quarter Forest Hills needs to cut this lead in half.
So the first part of this third quarter is very important to Forest Hills to set the tone for the rest of the game.
What Warriors will have the ball to open up the second half of play Both teams pretty late coming out of the locker room.
They're going to play some zone right corner three accompanied by Dylan Burpee.
It's okay to play zone, but you better find him Paul slapped away by Dylan Burpee.
Get it up to Weston.
Weston finds a little room.
Can't get the shot to fall.
Knocked out of bounds.
Last touch by Southern Rustic.
It will be Forest Hills Basketball.
Western tried to drive good help by rotating help by Cooper Daigle So they're going to play this Jordan off the ball Forest Hills really needing to make every possession count as they find themselves behind.
Here's the foul by Dylan Burpee Of course he was immediately double team that time for a moment or five.
In other words before burpee that was his second foul and the first team followed here the second half to come down to the on the line to shoot as Desjardins put senior makes both on 31 looks like so can pressure three quarter court but to get him out of rhythm the ball comes right side in the corner drive again Russell off the glass once again good help by Cooper Daigle He really anchors that defense to Desjardins he is going to be calling for the player control foul and that's a nice take that time by by buddy Porter and foul number two is it undeterred he picked up his second foul as it is you see Patty Porter kind of holding this yep Porter was waiting for him Celts with it long long three thrown up by Dylan Burton that's the Jordan range right here Welch gives it to Desjardins.
Desjardins tosses it off the glass, tilts up for the rebound for Southern Aroostook to Dylan Burpee or Russell Times to kick it out front.
Footrace goes out of bounds for Still's basketball miscommunication between a couple of warriors and me.
Yes, Hilts was alone at the top just couldn't get the ball to Desjardins gets it into Daigle Toss it comes Logsdon swung it around right side three off the front of the rim Good no call 46 26 from the corner The really no good soaks tries to save it And that's out of bounds or yes it's Ed Owens as Desjardins was out of bounds though the ball Forest Hills really hasn't made any headway in terms of getting into this lead but they're protecting the basket a lot better right side three rounded out Rusty unable to connect Boston's 50 final a 22 points in that spot Chase Desjardins trying to get to Desjardins right in the middle of that 221 zone now burpee around it out so either team connecting the last few times down the floor burpee the dribble has it picked ahead he goes and lays it in for two is blowing meadow for Hayden Welch with that high motor makes the play just burpees into the lane fingerboard make good suits he's got a player control foul this two plays in a row burpees kind of guilty of over dribbling there he goes a nice pick up that time by Hooper Daigle He's anchoring the defense pretty well just right the follow up by Denzel is up and it started with the penetration by Welch saw a little rusty rustic alley down to 16 now it's clearly had the better of the play so far just haven't gotten into that lead too much Westwood's shot no good and out of bounds everything right now is jump shots still we have a viewer in Aruba who was checked out by after Maine the state with the most streaming viewers any idea I'm going to go with a certain amount of time out on the floor.
By the way, Massachusetts, a Florida Florida course they and Florida and Aruba.
So take the high school quiz show Maine season six is about to begin.
16 teams from across Maine all competing to see who will be this year's champion.
Bring home the $1,000 prize.
Tune in for the season premiere on Thursday.
March 23rd starts at 8:00 right here on Maine Public Television I will say I do remember who the defending champion is a sort of show Maine Brewer High School you can win our season's first ever right so you know I don't mean to go ball I mean high school quiz show me oh high school well and throughout the course and the boys won the gold ball there's only one reason for that so superior administration something like that wicked smart kids I saw some people down at the coffee shop down to Waterville that were talking about corner of this week maybe some of those guys.
I don't want to name them on the air.
No, Forest Hills looking to cut into the lead.
A quick release by Brad Braden, Wild Short.
Yes.
Forest Hills Tigers have picked up the pace defensively.
Porter said after Weston kicked it off right side into the corner stilts with it Porter gets it right back to Sills.
He's lost out of bounds off Forest Hills you know.
So they taken away some of the easy looks and easy rhythm that the Warriors had in the first half.
Now it's just a matter can they capitalize on the offensive end only managed to gain three points here and we've got a player control following suit Hundley follow over to on him third on the team the prodigal yet again watch this lowers his shoulder establish position was established clear charges third Desjardins pass picked away Oh Desjardins picks it back gets it quickly up ahead to Daigle who lays it in for two momentum shifting ever so slightly selects burpee with it the burpee now gives off to western right side it comes to Russell Russell drives over he's ball for the player control 534 third foul on drafted Russell and the team's fourth Russell right there He's going to call for a foul That's number four on track that Russell little surprise to see him being that aggressive after just picking up his third by the eagles throwing fouls on everybody and playing the fifth team foul Desjardins so the rustic taking it the other way 14 point lead for the warriors silks off the glass hill going off they're going to be careful any time anybody goes near the basket they're kind of looking around where's where's Diego silks at 12 the first half those are his first two points here the second half kicked out of bounds by so-called mystics or Forest Hills will put the ball in the play along the sideline and again drawing a double and triple team as does Jarvis take her on a goal kicks off to Desjardins Desjardins shot is no good quarter into the lane out into the corner Delon Burpee for three his fourth three pointer of the game Desjardins has his pocket picked by Delon Perfect Who Weston gives it off to Buddy Porter pull up jumpers in just like that Pump the lead back up again Back up to 21 Now Desjardins leads the way Shaw think he was right on the ear of the bear saying he barely missed it Is that what you said?
You really missed it?
Yeah Pull up Jumper by Dillon Burpee So smooth always in the under control Burpee is never seen him shoot the ball off balance the tigers kick it off the ropes on the three pointer by playing that Oh on burpee dumps it into silks comes out to Porter shot no good on Forest Hills Black Daigle gets the ball back yard contact it a fire Okay we're going slow The rooster the eagle getting it down at both ends gets the rebound It's slick gets it and gets it back Draws the foul Great question Picks up the foul That is the first foul of the game for trick question 16 foul and the line shooting is tackled This is my first one The prodigal junior makes the second foul shot Closing seconds of quarter number three Porter gives off to Dillon Burpee Burpee with a rowdy burpee works off the screen along the baseline and here's up and in it as this buzzer sounds southern a rustic with a 21 point lead heading into quarter number four will step aside and we'll be back right after this production of high school basketball on Maine Public Television is made possible by people like you and by coastal auto parts selling Napa auto parts since 1981 with 29 locations across the state proudly supporting student athletes from across Maine Sheridan Construc Train, a Maine company committed to building on their promise for over 75 years did River Company committed to reliably delivering propane and heating oil to homes and businesses throughout Maine.
Dead river scum the University of Maine at Augusta committed to providing a quality, affordable education online and in-person with two campuses and eight centers statewide there at the Cross Insurance Center, Brant Stevens, along with weight loss campaigns.
Frank Welch, our director at our table producer, making it all happen, telling us exactly what to do.
Kurt Schreiber, Forest Hills had had a really good quarter of quite a season momentum.
But then you look up at the scoreboard is not showing well.
They had cut into the lead.
They had made a little bit of ground a little bit.
But by the time the quarter was over, Southern Aroostook outscored them by two.
Yep.
So the rustic went on one of their runs or at least a mini run run burpee three in and out coming up with the ball is Drake rested and fouled.
He called against Forest Hills or his little boy Neto picks up the foul for Neto.
That is his second foul second team foul against the Tigers Three pointer Put off it in by Buddy Porter Desjardins tries to match it off the back of the rim Rebound is going to come away to say that a rustic stilts with it and he is fouled or they throw by Ivan Watson has earned lobster hook up the third foul Andy Porter well back at 01 as Welch soaks up loses the ball momentarily hits it back now the ball still going away nice pass up ahead unable to handle it into the quarter Welch shot no good and the foul is going to go against Forest Hills Oh it's going to be a Braden's Welch that is his third foul on Welch the fourth team foul if I'm not mistaken Forest Hills has not gone to their bench at all.
You are correct silks on the right elbow himself front pass underneath to silks no good silks gets his own rebound puts it up the bucket is good and is fouled I find that way that time by Drake Weston I was after the pass or stays with it big guy so tough around the basket Daigle picks up his third foul 15 foul on the line to shoot silks to try to complete the traditional three point play at around the rim and out But so rustic With the rebound in the corner The shot is up it in pieces Collier That's a back breaker right there Desjardins tries to work hard out He's got three defenders on He kicks it down low to Daigle and he'll lose five part will pick up his fourth foul by his fourth 37th team Follow through with Diggle to shoot to the first story and one burpee the same words from coach Russell His big old connects are in the second fall shot as well Just selects five ten along the left side of the lane is at the finish with the right hand that time it's Jordan's will try to contact as he made his way along the sideline coach coach Russell not happy right now with fouling at the end for the third he stops the clock foul on line and score without any time running Weston was missing from a foul on the line to shoot is Desjardins blocked senior guard made his first play it's the second count it and now we've got a foul on Daigle right not very often his 44th team foul foul whistled on the floor after the foul shot was made jockeying for position for a possible rebound so Daigle picks up his fourth foul Tigers down by 27 That's over five and a half to play here in the game Desjardins into the lane nice shot he had to go through for people to do it off to the races the other way Desjardins will take it himself through the contact but no call lights that sideline Weston gives over to Porter corner Dillon Burpee Burpee pulls up hits a shot Nice little up fake to get some poise And then he's able to go up off two feet Desjardins throws it up 12 deep right now Daigle has his shot rejected Russell He's fouled from behind Sabian Welch the lead in wrong He's going to be on by to see a replay on that day go getting from one end of the floor to the other if he went by about eight guys it get there it's Cooper Daigle fifth foul so he is down from the game and that will be the first sub of the game for Forest Hills as Leo Campbell junior comes into the game at four 39 to play here in the game much and coach MRO doesn't have an extensive roster of eighth graders Russell Trafton Russell connects both of his foul shots Desjardins around the rim it out Desjardins picks up the loose ball shoots no good kicked out into the corner through the hands of Desjardins Floater in the lane is in for two stolen away by Wells Walsh lays it up for two his Jarden has as a theory If you're hot keep shooting If you're not hot Shoot to get hot Time out Take it on the floor here at the cross insurance center to say what you want but forest hills down by 25 at this point but they are not showing any quit.
Oh I'm sure that that won't happen they're going to play hard right to the Tigers fans behind us decked out in their orange hats out of orange hats back to the top go on the other side of the floor the warriors of southern rustic looking to take home their second gold ball of the evening as the girls team won their state championship game against Seacoast Christian.
And they pulled off the same double last year.
A year ago at Augusta and if they continue on this path that they have started here against the same two teams that's not going to involve the ball.
But a momentary pause gives the ball back down to Forest Hills.
Welch dumps it off the right side, shot wide open was not all, but a little too strong off the glass To slice silks spots up for the three does it inside and outside and do it all the damage inside.
But want to show off his three point range still to the rebound Berkeley they get the ball up ahead to Russell Russell sophomore off the glass for two of the back up to 30.
Desjardins picks up that ball after losing the handle and lays it up for two and the glass silks Too strong a lot of contact Desjardins for three 37 36 51 has intended for silks knocked away Langston with it Hiram Langston will look for some help and Rudy if found Campbell his shot was blocked.
Second effort no good silks a big presence inside defensively Dylan Burpee on him as Welch gives to Russell lays it in for two.
Nice play found the cutter Hoyas still moving away from the ball Desjardins picks it up puts it in for two just like that is the year 13 points in the fourth quarter for Desjardins under 2 minutes to play 78 53 and a foul is going to go against.
Well an incredible fourth he's in the line to shoot first to Dillon Brooks Murphy makes the first try and more Maddox cutting over 22 has come into the ballgame and it's greater for coach Anthony Amaro second foul shot by Burpee was in Desjardins around the rim and out Welch puts it back Desjardins Desjardins throws up another It bounces off the top of the backboard and out of bounds Now coming into the game is Aiden Neto, another eighth grader So the rooster takes a 32nd timeout just over a minute and a half Just under to play should take say so that Louis took fans on their feet cheering on the players who are coming out of the game and getting ready to collect another gold ball Just too much ballads from Southern Aroostook They had a good attack to start the game and put the ball in the hands of Burpee Mills has been an immense presence inside.
Forest Hills just couldn't match it.
We talked about there's going to be a high scoring game.
We thought Forest Hills might be able to put up a big number themselves, but looks like it's not going to happen.
So maybe Porter brings it up makes it off the left side.
Well, jarred loose scramble for it picked up by Southern Aroostook And it goes the corner The three is up it in Buddy Porter the other side it's just Gardner's Andrew Lewis has checked into the game so that Aroostook two has had AJ Chambers 30 seconds to go Celts with the ball in the final seconds encountered off the clock so the rustic content to dribble it out.
83 56 well that will be the final ball is up in the air and you saw that almost a four year have done it again they have won the class D Boys State Championship just as they did last year against the same Forest Hills team and they really did it in impressive fashion controlled it from start to finish Forest Hills started to seize some of the momentum in that third quarter but didn't really show up on the scoreboard and then the Warriors able to finish it off strong in the fourth quarter.
So congratulations to the Warriors of Southern Aroostook finishing off a perfect season 22 at old Forest Hills finishes up at 15 and for the second year in a row that they have come up short against southern Aroostook Both games are kind of similar to last year's in this too much firepower on the part of the warriors last year southerners took one by 21 82 to 61 this one 83 56 so very similar indeed as the players make their way up the ladder to take down the nets buddy Porter on the screen he's waiting for his teammate on the other end Dylan Murphy swing the nets now with his silks Drake Weston with Buddy Porter as well So congratulations to the Warriors They bring down the Nets They will make their way off to the sideline in the bench and moments away from the award ceremony this is pretty much in keeping with their margin of victory throughout the year.
83.
56.
So let's turn things over now to play.

Well, can we set it after the girls who said the Rusty Girls took home the gold ball?
Winning just doesn't get old.
And, you know, it doesn't matter.
The second gold ball in a few hours.
That's right.
They're loving it.
They've got a good formula.
Up there in Dire Brook it's called get a bunch of guys to work on their skills year round and play as a team.
All right.

Some of the scoring numbers are unofficial scoring numbers.
Forest hills there were led by Mason Desjardins with 34 points.
And on the other side, it was Dylan Burpee with 36 points on ice scoresheet.
21 points for Graham Seltzer.
And I think that really speaks to the inside outside games that they had going, although Graham Schultz had three from three point land.
Yeah.
Dylan Burpee very efficient though in shooting percentage made open threes was able to drive get into the lane always under control and on balance really made a lot of outstanding plays for his team.
And of course, anytime you come into a tournament, a postseason play with a perfect record, you you have that proverbial target on your back.
But so realistic able to navigate the tournaments that they were able to to get through in and their season two went oh after a pretty convincing 83 56 victory.
Got to give a lot of credit to Forest Hills though because you know they they they play hard they commit for a 32 minute basketball game they're never going to get outhustled they're outworked but they ran into a buzzsaw here tonight and the warriors are up to the task.
So both southern Aroostook teams out there on the floor having their photos taken together.
So right now we're going to throw things over to Jim Baynes who is with the Champs Jim.
Yep.
Very good.
Well, first we're going to start with Cam because he's not letting go of the goal.
You're not letting go this thing right now.
All right.
Now, let's talk about what Coach Russell had you do during practice and how it all kind of transpired here on the court.
We had a pretty laid back week, actually.
We just get shots off and stay focused, really more laid back than during the regular season.
Yeah, we have experience.
We know we just we knew what the intensity we had to bring and we brought it today.
So.
All right.
I want to bring another captain here.
Well, well, this particular senior Dale, just for I'm sorry, Dugdale.
Yeah, Drake kid can read my own writing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm a little surprised to hear that this was a more relaxed week for practice than the normal.
Is that true?
Yeah.
We just, like he said, got some shots off, went over some defense and ran our plays a little bit.
I got a question for everybody here.
I want to say, you know, how many points Dylan scored today?
Anybody know?
I guess.
Yes.
36. Who said 36?
Very good.
Let's get a break.
Let's get Dylan up here.
Yeah, come on down.
Get yeah.
Very good.
That was an amazing performance down there.
I mean, did you just feel super relaxed being on this floor during the tournament and it just all worked out for you?
Yeah, definitely.
I was playing here, but yeah, well, I just went there and played and I just came up with a reason.
I'm just glad that we won the game.
That's all very good.
What does it mean?
I know you're junior.
You got another year to tell us about the seniors on this team and how they helped you, you know, play that well, they definitely help them in Buddy Drake and Graham, they all get us free.
And AJ is out there with the water.
You everybody's always called me on, and this is all great.
All right, very good.
We'll get Graham here for a second.
Yeah, mean, I see.
I know he's hiding back there.
I don't know why, but 21 before a performance for you here.
I mean, that looked like you guys were really relaxed today.
I mean, you had, like I said, you had three good games here during the, the regional tournament.
Was it just a lot easier working in a state game, you think, or does it matter?
Yeah, I don't know.
It's just we all just came to play ball, right.
And you just leave it all on the court right there.
Yep.
Yep.
Yeah.
All right.
So I get here, I look at look at the big.
So you got your daughter win a gold ball, your boys want to go, but it's not a perfect day or what.
You know, hey, my daughter's run, run.
My son, myself and my boys here, you know, couldn't be happier for these guys.
They've worked hard all year.
And I have to admit, playoff time has been pretty relaxed in that.
You know what?
Our jam, you know, we just try to keep it light and in their spirits up.
And you know what I guess is working somewhere and keep doing what we do.
I've some of the most intense practice I've seen is getting ready for a state championship.
What makes you guys so much more relaxed?
Well, you know, that's the way we we practice all year.
You know, we're full of intensity in the way we've played.
You know, we know what we got to do at the end of the year.
You know, we've been doing it all year.
So I mean, we just come out and I don't worry about the defensive end.
These guys work so hard, you know, for me.
And when the chips are down, they'll pick up and go.
So what a great group of guys.
Very good.
All right, Champs, bring it in here.
Remember the challenge here?
You got to do a lot of the girls.
You think you could do that?
You think you got that?
All right, guys, congratulations.
Tell the camera what it's like to be stay, champ.
You know, oh, all right.
Yeah.
So a clean sweep for some that are rustic.
The girls are fancy co 68 30.
The boys winners over Forest Hills.
83 to 56.
And that's going to put the wraps on it here from the Cross Insurance Center on Brand Stevens for Ken Lynn Loft, Jim Baynes, Frank Welsh Coeur Chad born all the folks at Maine Public.
