A familiar name has officially entered the 2023 race for Chicago mayor. Paul Vallas ran in 2019 garnering a little more than 5% of the vote. He is the city's former budget director and Chicago Public Schools CEO under former Mayor Richard M. Daley. In recent years, he's been harshly critical of Mayor Lightfoot about the city's soaring violence rate, calling for more aggressive policing.
