Frank Daniels Jr., and his son, Frank Daniels III, foresaw the influence of digital platforms in 1994, launching NandO.net, the first online newspaper. But despite NandO.net’s success, the Daniels family became increasingly aware that print newspapers were starting to lose ground to Internet alternatives. Selling the newspaper to McClatchy in 1995, Mr. Daniels left the N&O newsroom a year later.
