(upbeat music) - Friends of Historic Spring City is presenting its annual Heritage Day event, which includes home tours, an auction, a framed art sale, live music, and other events as well.
Here with us today to tell us all about it is publicity director, Randal Thatcher.
Welcome, Randal.
- It's a pleasure to be here, Liz.
Thank you for having me.
And I have to say, I wonder how many Utahns are aware that we have in the center of the state of Utah, this historic little gem of Spring City.
- [Liz] I bet not a lot of people are aware.
How did it become a historic district?
- Right?
Back in the early 80s, the whole town became a national historic site.
The whole, everything in the town.
And it's on the National Historic Register and that's very rare.
I know of only two other towns in the whole country.
One is Colonial Williamsburg, so it's a very special thing.
And all these old pioneer homes that have been lovingly restored will be on display, open to the public on that May 25th.
- About how many homes will be on display?
- We'll have 27 sites in all on the tour map this year.
13 of those are private homes, mine included, and 14 are public structures, public buildings, including the Old Rock Church and the old Vaudeville Theater where we'll have live bluegrass music.
Yours truly on the banjo.
(Liz laughing) - Now you said your home included?
What's that like opening up your home for people to tour and walk through?
- It's interesting, you hear comments.
Somebody walked in and said, "Well, what'd you pay for the place?"
But it is really interesting to see what these homes were like 150 years ago, how people lived.
- Are other events going on that day.
I think you said there's gonna be music and is there gonna be food and other things as well?
- Wonderful food.
A lot of live music.
We've got, in addition to being a historic site, Spring City's also a become an artist colony, an artist's community.
So we've got a lot of original paintings, artwork, that we'll be auctioning that day.
So nice chance to get an original piece of art.
- All right, it sounds like a wonderful time and I know a lot of people are gonna wanna check it out.
So let's get the information on the screen.
It's the Friends of Historic Spring City, Spring City Heritage Day, happening on May 25th at 10:00 AM.
