A Japanese immigrant captured the final frontier days of theOkanogan valley

A Japanese immigrant who lived in the Okanogan valley in the early 1900s, frontier photographer Frank Matsura, was befriended by a community of cowboys, miners, merchants and Native Americans. In a time when portraits were stiff formal affairs, Matsura’s photographs seemed to capture a more authentic image of his friends and neighbors. Learn more about Matsura at www.ksps.org/history
