It saves lives as we welcome you to Ray Stadium in Roswell for a huge region 76, a showdown as the number four Gainesville Red elephants have come to town to take on the eighth ranked Roswell Hornets.
And good evening.
I'm Matt Stewart, joined by former Auburn Tigers All-American NFL first round draft pick and 15 year pro.
And Wayne, this game will not decide the region championship, but it will go a long way towards determining who wins the region seven championship six weeks from now.
Last two times these teams have played.
It's been a shootout gone down to the final play.
Do we expect the same thing tonight?
Two talented teams that's playing with a lot of confidence they have.
Terrific dual threat quarterbacks.
Their defense has played downhill.
Should be a great game.
Roswell 4-1 on the season under second year head coach Jonathan Thompson got to the state semifinals a year ago, got a quarterback, and Matt Schlittler going to remind you a little bit of the quarterback that Coach Thompson used to coach at Lee County named Weston Bryant.
Yeah, this young man is so talented.
He's 62.
He's around 220.
He has a big arm.
He can deliver the ball down the field.
Seven touchdowns in the air, eight on the ground with his feet.
He's a true dual threat quarterback with a lot of speed.
Defensive side of the ball Tyler Pressnall he's kind of a Tasmanian devil.
But he's going to play running back as well and all over the place on special teams.
Literally plays everywhere.
Linebacker, running back, snapper.
They count on him to make plays on all levels of the field.
They're going to need that to try to stop Mr.
Rheem.
Kyree Hughley tonight.
Now for Gainesville.
They're 3-2 on the season.
They played a very difficult schedule under first year head coach Sam Tobias Bryant.
And you mentioned Kyree Hughley.
He's the quarterback.
He's rated as high as the number five dual threat quarterback in the country.
Long time commitment to Clemson.
Yeah four star headed to Clemson.
He can throw the ball around the field.
He's a true dual threat one of the top dual threats in the country.
Very mobile.
Sneaky speed.
This young man can make some plays deliver the ball down field has a great talented arm.
He calms this team down.
They count on him to do everything.
He's been a great leader and he's the reason they're on a winning streak right now.
Being able to get outside the pocket and make big plays for his team.
Defensive side of the ball, they've got the freakish Jeremiah Proctor at safety.
He's rated as a linebacker but he's 6′5″, 211.
Yeah what a frame.
This young man has the four star headed to Pitt.
His coach calls him a unicorn.
That's because he can get in the box, play physical but has great range at safety.
He's going to have to have a great night to stop.
Mr.
Schlittler.
Yeah, it's Gainesville and it's Roswell.
Should be a great ball game.
Let's send it down to Jon Nelson.
Thank you very much, Matt.
Good evening.
Good evening to you, Matt, as well.
Good evening to all of you.
However you're accessing us large device or small.
January 20 fourth 20:25 was when Jonathan Thompson was announced as the new head coach here at Roswell.
And since then you have noticed a decided change in how things are operated on a daily basis.
When it comes to Roswell, you have five coaches on the coaching staff that teach in first period, seven coaches that teach on second period.
Jonathan Thompson requested lunchroom duty so he can be seen and so his staff can be seen.
It wasn't just the two coaches or three coaches that were in the building.
It is now basically seven of the nine coaches that are around that are seen on a daily basis and active in the lives inside the walls of Roswell High School.
Participation is up about 40%.
They started at about 88, two years ago.
Now it's up to about 127 last time around.
And everything you'll notice is done on the hop.
One coach said.
That was very, very famous in the Southwestern Conference.
We got to do things fast so we can be fast.
They practice fast.
The weight room is fast.
Everything on the field is fast.
You will see that tonight.
They operate like every play is fourth and one.
We'll see that fourth and one every single time out.
On offense.
Matt Stewart let's send it up to you and light a candle here on Football Fridays.
All right.
Thank you Nellie.
And as you watch the game tonight, keep up with scores all around the state by going to our QR code there on the screen and downloading our GPB sports app.
Another thing that Nelly was talking about, Wayne, is another element to this Roswell team is they like to go for the two point conversion a lot.
So when the touchdown is scored, the scoring drive might not really be over yet.
And that's just a function of the head coach is not a function of the kicking game.
He's a guy that likes to keep the pressure on, wants to get on the scoreboard.
So on fourth downs he likes to go forward.
And when he gets down that end zone two point conversion is the name of his game.
Roswell Hornets 4-1 on the season.
They are already 1-0 in the region after a 39 15 win at Lanier last Friday night.
And Gainesville, under head coach Sam Tobias Bryant after three seasons as the top dog at Grayson, won the state championship in 2024, comes back to the program where he was the DB coach under Josh Niblett.
And walking with some confidence after his time at Grayson.
What a program he put together there.
Just kept that legacy going.
And now here, returning home for a little home cooking to get this Gainesville Red elephant elephant team down to the beans come December.
Gainesville all in white, trimmed in red.
Tonight.
Roswell going black on black.
And Riley Chambers has it teed up and ready to kick off.
Opening kickoff is brought to you by Heads Up Georgia.
Park your phone while you're driving.
It saves lives.
Demarion Barrett.
Among those standing deep for Gainesville.
He's going to take it inside the five yard Barrett comes this way and Barrett long up the sideline, got a big return by Demarion Barrett up across the 50 yard line.
Tremendous blocking by the return team right there.
Big hole for him to explode through.
Watch this hole as he returns.
Just running full speed.
Really not having to negotiate anybody as he gets upfield.
Only the kicker to beat.
Pushing him out of bounds.
Big play to start this game for Gainesville.
Yeah.
Huge 50 yard return by parrot.
Gives Gainesville the ball first and ten.
They spot it right on the 50 yard line.
And there is Kyree Hughley.
You see his numbers his passing numbers for the season.
That's just part of the story with Hughley because he's going to run it too.
Yeah.
He's a true dual threat quarterback that can beat you with his legs.
Has running back speed.
So you have to be able to keep him in the pocket.
If you're this defensive line.
Jordan Brown the converted cornerback is the starting running back.
And he's going to get the handoff.
And Brown's got a big hole.
And Jordan Brown down to the 40 1 yard line.
Foulston on that tackle along with Preston Glenn for Roswell.
Of course their top running back Nigel Newkirk still out with that knee injury.
Nice pull right there.
Good power blocking up front by this offensive line.
We're going to get a chance to talk about this line tonight that he has in front of him up there.
But a nice run there by Jordan Brown.
Yeah it's nine yard pickup for Jordan Brown.
He's been their lead back with the injuries to Newkirk and Lewis Morrison on the jet sweep.
And Morrison's going to try to get to the edge and pick up the first down.
And he will as he gets driven out of bounds at the 38 yard line.
Wayne let's take a look at your Breda Pest Management impact players brought to you by Breda Pest Management, the official pest management of high school football.
Doe Morrison, the best receiver out there.
Explosive guy Tyler Ford, the three star headed to Miami.
What great feet he has on the other side.
Jackson Holley, one of the three star headed to Florida State.
A fast, twitchy defensive end and Hayes Kendall Lee, a star linebacker, the captain and leading tackler for.
Them hugely with a big run, picks up the first down foul, saves a touchdown by grabbing him by his ankles.
Nice job once again.
And this is where in the dimension where this young man can definitely punish a defense.
The ability to run the ball.
As you can see he looks like a running back when he breaks the line of scrimmage.
There's PJ Lewis checks into the ball game.
He's been out with injury.
Did get into their 56 to nothing victory over Alpharetta in their region opener last week.
So big to get PJ Lewis back.
Hughley back to pass scans goes to Lewis inside the 15 yard line.
PJ Lewis down to the six.
And there's a flag down on the field.
What a weapon.
The three star Dwight Lewis got a chance to see him last year.
Ineligible receiver downfield on the offense.
Five yard penalty replay.
First down.
Aaron Adams is our referee.
And there's a look at the rest of the officiating crew working tonight's region seven 6-A showdown.
Yeah you saw PJ Adams come off the bench after Newkirk suffered that knee injury against Rome in the state semifinals.
And all PJ Lewis did was come out of the shadows and rush for over 200 yards.
Man hurt for Roswell.
Time out for injured.
Number one Christian.
That's Christian English there.
Really good cornerback being helped off the field.
Hold him up.
Hold him up hold him up.
James trying to work his way off the field.
Gainesville is set and ready to run the next play.
, so backs him up to the 34 yard line.
Opening drive for Gainesville started with a big 50 yard kick return by Parrot movement flags.
Roswell pointing at Gainesville.
False start offense.
Five yard penalty replay.
First down.
That will back up the Red elephants another 5 yards.
This offensive line for Gainesville is amazing.
They've got four power conference prospects out of their five offensive linemen, three of them committed to the A, c c yeah.
When you look at Ford Hurt and Mathis over there at right tackle at six, seven, 300 pounds, massive offensive line that they love to lean on.
On first down pass is going to be complete over here on the near side.
And going to get a lot of that back inside the 30 yard line down to the 26 as that goes to legend.
Wilmot let's take a look at the Johnny's New York style pizza starting lineup for Gainesville on offense.
And there's Ford and Hurt and Mathis all of them committed to the A c c noisettes, a junior who's got 25 offers.
And then the wide receivers in the running backs, Doyle Morrison, the junior wide receiver, has 16 total offers, including Georgia Tech, all total 29 players on this Gainesville team have college offers.
Jordan Brown on the screen pass gets around the edge and picks up the first down before finally getting knocked out of bounds by Nick Daniels.
Just a little swing pass.
Get the talent of Jordan Brown, but watch this block by legend.
Wilmot out on the edge.
The receiver to let go right there.
Does he see.
You can see right there.
A lot of times the receiver holds on.
Nice job of letting that block go.
Yeah.
Wilmont had the pass reception on the previous play.
So now it's first down and goal.
And PJ Lewis gets dropped for a loss.
Jackson Holly with the TfL.
As we take a look at the starting lineup for Roswell on defense.
Holly who just made the tackle.
He's committed to Florida State.
Then you got Walker and Thompson up front.
Linebacking corps Smith, Fletcher, Kendall Lee and Preston Glenn.
And in the secondary English who we already saw get helped off the field.
McAllister Foulston Daniels.
So second down.
Second and goal ball sitting on the 11.
Hughley fires in the middle off the hands of his wide receiver.
Should have been caught.
Trent Wilcox had it glance off his hands.
And now it's going to be third down.
Just a little slant route there to Wilcox.
The young sophomore.
Nice throw there by Hughley.
Put it on the numbers.
Just got to catch the ball there Mr.
Wilcox.
So third down and goal ball is sitting on the 12 instead of the 11.
And this is a big third down conversion coming up for the Red elephants.
Do you.
Move.
Kareem outside the pocket.
Let him make a play on the run.
Going with the hard count.
Trying to get the defense.
Nice job of getting the plays in and out of the huddle.
Hughley committed to Clemson long time ago.
Over 16 other offers, including Georgia and Auburn.
Play clock down to one.
And they're going to take a penalty or get a time out.
Time-out.
Gainesville.
They were having a hard time getting the play in.
And so we'll step aside time-out in a big third down and goal coming up for Gainesville when we get back.

Welcome back to Rahman.
It's 942.
For the first.
We'll see how this drive ends up in a second.
It's time to catch up with our friends from Roswell and thank our friends from Cigna.
Time for the $1,500 donation.
We have cheerleaders.
They're all upperclassmen.
Dr.
Morrissey, who is the principal, and Addie Souter, we're going to catch up with him.
Thanks for being a great partner with us all week long and for Football Fridays all year long.
Well.
We appreciate you guys from GPB and Cigna coming out on this fine Friday night at Raymond Stadium and celebrating the Hornets.
Right.
What he said upstairs for the rest of the first.
Back up to you Matt.
$1,500 my friends from Cigna to our friends here at the Hornets.
All right.
Thank you Nellie.
This is the fifth all time meeting between these two teams.
Not until just the last couple of years that they play in the same region.
Oftentimes they didn't even play in the same classification.
But the last two years, the games have been decided by a total of five points.
Roswell victories by a 48, 45-37 35 score.
But Gainesville is the team knocking on the door here trying to score first.
Still some confusion play coming in, taking a little long a time to get this play off.
Trying to get the defense to set.
I think they're trying to get the defense to jump and turn the third and goal from the 12 into third and goal from the seven.
Hasn't worked.
Play clock continues to wind down now at 12.
And Hughley takes the snap.
Heavy rush steps up to avoid the rush.
Scrambling, throwing incomplete.
Nearly intercepted.
McDaniels jumped in front of that pass as Hughley was just trying to throw it away.
And it's going to be fourth down.
He just got the feel with how long it took the play to come in and happen.
And the snap.
A lot of time here.
Big pressure by Holley off the edge forcing him up into the pocket there.
Fletcher as well the middle linebacker nowhere to go just throwing the ball away.
Good decision there by Hughley.
So field goal attempt of 29 yards.
Dwayne Carter with the kick.
And it is going to be good.
29 yard field goal by Dwayne Carter.
And Gainesville cashes in on their first drive and has a 3-0 lead.
Starting with the.
The big kick return, getting up to midfield and then has some positive play.
The big play to PJ Lewis taking off the board with a penalty.
Started getting some mental mental errors going there and that's the thing that Coach Bryant talked about with his team.
Got to go out offensively early in the game and stop having those mental errors.
Still was able to get three points on the board.
So our first chance to see Roswell on offense tonight as Gainesville scores first 3-0 Think it's going to strike you about this Gainesville defense is the youth of their defense, especially in the front line and in the linebackers loaded with sophomores and juniors.
Counting on those sophomores and juniors to make plays.
And so far, so good.
The talent over there, Jason Johnson, Chance Davis inside and their senior Daryl Williams leading them over there at that linebacker position.
So kickoff coming from Logan Gailey.
And it's going to be taken at the five yard line.
Kalshi on the return and Kalshi up to the 25.
And that's where Rousey or rather that is where Roswell is going to go on offense for the first time at the 25 yard line.
Our first chance to see Matt Schlittler.
I mean, this guy is a he's not quite as big as Weston Bryant, who played at Lee County.
He's now with the Georgia Southern Eagles, but he's close at 62, 220.
He accounts for 235 plus yards of total offense per game.
Yeah.
This young man a true dual threat.
He is the offense.
He's the guy that makes them go.
Can he do it again tonight against this fast young defensive Gainesville.
But they're fast and they play downhill.
He averages 94 yards rushing per game.
He is by far and away their leading rusher.
And the handoff goes to Holbert on the first play.
And Hobart's going to get stood up at the line of scrimmage and driven back.
No running room right there for him.
Corbett the starting running back here tonight, their top running back, the sophomore Jayden Allen suffered an ACL injury last week.
He's out for the season.
Rotate three or four bodies over there to give Hobart.
But the running game is all about Matt sledding again.
No running room as he gets dropped that time by Darian Swanigan as we take a look at the impact players brought to you by Breda Pest Management.
John Smith, a three star tight end, great hands Westerfield up there.
Big huge 6′5″, 293 star headed the UGA.
Aaron Williams that senior leadership the three star headed to Wake Forest and goalie over there at that cornerback.
The four star one of the highest rated players on this field tonight.
He's actually the highest rated player from the recruiting rankings standpoint.
That's the big senior CJ Terry, the defensive end who got hurt on the play.
Looks like they're looking at his left ankle.
He's the only senior they have in their two deep on their defensive line.
Yeah this young man has been having an explosive season.
The thing you love about Terry is how he chases the ball right now.
Good to see him up.
Maybe trying to walk it off.
So he's going to hobble off under his own power.
But again the only senior they have in their two deep on their defensive line.
And then they have only one senior in their linebacking corps.
Starting two sophomores up there up front on the D line.
And then when you look at this linebacking corps in the middle there, just to have that youth, they're playing season, especially Johnson.
Keep your eye on Jason Johnson, the young sophomore.
He's the next big linebacker here in Gainesville.
So third down and ten after no gains on two consecutive runs.
Cause he's now in there at running back.
And he goes in motion to the air fires and nearly caught by their big tight end number zero Sean Smith who has 19 offers including Georgia Tech.
Nice job getting this offense in third and long, forcing Max to make something down the field.
As you can see, the range of Sean Smith still able to get a hand on that ball, but ball is just too high for him to go and grab.
Good job.
Three and out there by the red elephant defense.
So punting situation.
Tyler Presnell who we talked about in the open who plays all over the place.
He is the punter.
He stands at the 11 yard line.
Low snap has trouble with it.
Now.
He's just going to run.
He's one of the fastest players on the team, but he's not going to be able to get around that Gainesville defense.
And a big mistake by Roswell as the snap to Preston was Lowe.
They're down to their third string snapper because of injuries this week.
Yeah right here.
Ball hitting the turf just not able to corral the ball.
Doing the smart thing, trying to get outside.
Just too much speed.
Nice tackle there by Jeremiah Proctor.
Yeah they're down to their number three snapper.
And he is a freshman.
So it shows its ugly head right there on the opening snap.
On their first punt of the game.
And so Gainesville takes over at the 26 yard line.
Great time for Ibraheem Hughley to go up top in these kind of situations here.
Yeah PJ Lewis is in there and he fumbles the ball.
He picks it up.
He's in trouble.
Gets away for the moment, then heaves it up in the air.
Incomplete.
So good job by Hughley just to get rid of the ball and not take a big loss.
Great job of able to get the ball and then get out all this pressure.
Watch the right side of your screen.
All black jerseys.
But right there showing you the athleticism.
Nice awareness to get out of the pocket and get rid of the ball.
So second down and ten Lewis stays in the ball game with Hughley in the backfield.
Lewis a three star running back in 2028 with 14 offers including Georgia State, Pitt and UConn.
That's a good number two to Nigel Newkirk, who's committed to Alabama.
Unfortunately, Newkirk has not yet been able to play since suffering that ACL back in December.
Hughley heavy rush again, steps up to avoid it, and now he's going to go down.
Quarterback sack and a flag out.
Might have a face mask on the play.
Jake Smith the linebacker got to him.
Might have got a piece of the face mask.
And we'll check the call.
First a foul face mask on the defense.
Personal foul.
Big pressure right in his face.
Nice job getting up the field by Thompson.
Elijah Thompson forcing him out.
And then right there hard to see.
Looks like Thompson had him maybe on that front chest plate.
Yeah so it was.
Not from the angle of the referee.
Looks like he grabbed the face mask.
Elijah Thompson had the quarterback sack not Jake Smith.
Jake Smith was standing there in the vicinity.
But it was Thompson who's a good looking junior with four offers, including Minnesota.
But he gets flagged for a penalty and like you said, might not have been a penalty.
But from the referee's perspective, it looked like one.
So that's going to give him the ball at the 13 yard line.
And it's going to be first and ten.
The operation of Gainesville offensively just seems to be a little stagnant.
Taking a little while to get the ball snapped.
A couple of penalties balls on the ground.
Got to punch this ball in here.
Hughley to the air.
It's caught.
That's a touchdown for Gainesville legend.
Wilmont into the end zone.
And the Red elephants have a 9-0 lead.
We saw this earlier where Kareem Hughley tried to get this slant in there to Trent Wilcox this time going to the senior.
The three star Georgia State Colin Potterfield yeah.
Porterfield.
Porterfield pardon me had the catch.
Knott.
Wilmont.
And it's 9-0 Nice job there working on Nicholas Daniels the big receiver 6′3″, 226.
P-a-t is good and a 10-0 lead for Gainesville just 4 minutes into this game.
Another look at the Healy to Porterfield touchdown.
Porterfield just a strike.
Put it on the numbers.
Look at the big body there that he uses on Daniels who's 62 as a corner.
Kind of like a box out there.
Just a big weapon.
That's the kind of weapon you want around the goal line.
Great job.
As you can see right there.
My man headed down to Georgia State.
So Porterfield is much bigger than a year ago.
He's up to 226.
Hughley is playing about 20 pounds heavier.
Everybody on that Gainesville side is bigger, stronger than they were a year ago, Centerville says.
We've been eating and working.
Out the training table is working for this team.
Everybody's up in weight conditioned in this Gainesville team.
Dropped those two early games against tough competition, but really finding themselves here in the last three or four weeks.
And here is the kickoff going to be taken at the seven yard line.
Monahan coming to the near side.
And he's going to get stopped at the 23.
And that's where Roswell goes on offense.
They're down ten points already and they haven't really generated any offense whatsoever.
Yeah three and out on that last possession.
Got to settle down start playing ahead of the sticks.
First down is key.
Whether it's sled running the ball or throwing.
They're going to have to have execution protecting the ball, not beating themselves and start having positive first down yardage.
So first and ten from the 23, just 2 yards of offense so far for Roswell, 61 for Gainesville.
Five first downs for the Red elephants, zero for the Hornets.
Holbrook back in there lines up behind Schlittler.
Fakes the handoff and throws on the slant route.
Caught at the 30 and up to the 33.
Close to a first down as the ball goes to Sean Smith.
Time out for me.
Coming off defense.
And here's a look at the Gainesville scoring drive.
It is brought to you by DBHDD in the new red ribbon 365 curriculum, two plays, 27 yards.
Taking advantage of the short field.
Got the big penalty on the face mask and punched the ball in.
Nice strike there from to Sean Smith, the hybrid tight end.
What a weapon.
He is leading this team in receptions.
Kind of that tweener 632 ten junior very highly recruited.
Encroachment defense five yard penalty still first down.
Yeah that catch by Smith was his team leading 23rd of the season.
He's averaging right around 12 yards per catch close to 52 yards receiving per game.
Coach Thompson said he has the best hands on the team.
Very explosive guy with top end speed at that tight end position.
So first and five now ball at the 38 after the five yard penalty against Gainesville.
That's going to be the third penalty on the Red elephants.
On the keeper.
And he gets wrapped up falls forward for 2 yards.
That was Darren Williams the senior linebacker.
You remember him from a year ago.
As we take a look at the starting lineup for Roswell, brought to you by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Westerfield is Wayne mentioned the three star, 65, 290 offensive tackle committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.
And here's a look at the backs and the receivers.
Chase Jackson is actually their top receiver by yards on the run across midfield down to the 41.
Getting in his work with his legs.
Zach Ingram the corner makes the tackle.
Nice blocking on that right side.
He's going to pull this ball out.
Good block there by his receiver.
Cuzzi.
Nice job of covering up that ball right there at the end.
As you can see the defender trying to rip it out.
Good job there by sled.
Sled came in with 470 yards rushing on the season.
Already close to 6 yards per carry.
Going to run it again.
This time he gets tackled, grabbed him around the helmet and got him on the ground.
Ziggy Williams the nose making that stop as we take a look at the Gainesville defense brought to you by Johnny's New York Style pizza.
Swanigan.
Ziggy Williams just made the tackle.
And Terry, who got hurt earlier.
Williams, Davis and Johnson in the linebacking corps.
And in that 33 stack defense you got goalie proctor Ferguson Sims and Ingram on that back line.
Positive drive going so far.
We see committing to run the ball.
Got a good look at xAI little goalie there a moment ago.
He's the top rated player in this game.
38 offers including Georgia might not call his game his name a lot because no one ever throws at him.
Yeah very talented secondary.
Nice job there.
Breaking by Dallas Ferguson to break that pass up another third and long.
This is what Gainesville wants to do.
They want to create third and long and Farage Matthews to have to make some plays down the field with his arm.
Third down and nine.
Just under 6 minutes to play here in the opening quarter.
Kalshi in motion to the top end.
Schlittler rolling to his left.
Looking for a man downfield now a heavy rush chasing him.
Gets rid of it.
Throws it incomplete.
Darren, the missile.
Williams right here.
Great job getting off the route getting back into this play.
Getting up field the pressure out of the secondary to force Leti to have to move out of the pocket once again chasing him down to force that bad throw there by Sletty.
I think they might have a grounding.
Intentional.
Grounding.
On the.
Offense.
Five yard penalty from the.
Spot of the foul.
Fourth down.
Always wonder why it takes him so long to drop that flag.
Got to figure out that the ball make it to the line of scrimmage.
Was he a receiver in the area.
Interesting on that play.
He actually got outside the pocket then came back into the pocket and threw the ball away.
So you get a loss of downs on that.
So now it's going to be fourth down.
They're going to back him up to the 46 it looks like.
And another punting situation with Preston Glenn.
Remember they've got issues at the snapper position this week.
They back it up to the 40.
On the play 36.
Yeah I think they've got a no.
They still have the freshman in there snapping the ball right now.
Gets back to Pressnell this time.
Got a rugby style.
Kick it out of there and it's a nice kick.
He's going to hit at the 30 and take a Roswell bounce inside the 20.
And all the way down to the 16.
We hear that Schlittler has gone to the tent.
John's Efforting that story.
When we get back, it'll be Gainesville Ball.

Legendary coach Tim McFarland led Roswell to the 2006 state championship, then went around the corner and led Blessed Trinity to three state championships.
Now on Brent, key staff at Georgia Tech.
Making an appearance in his old stomping grounds, a number of players with Georgia Tech on their radar and vice versa.
On both sides of the ball here tonight.
So first and ten Gainesville as they take over at their 15 yard line.
Pass is complete to Porterfield.
Porterfield makes a man miss in the open field and Porterfield gets up to the 29 yard line.
So Colin Porterfield had a touchdown catch the last time he touched the ball.
Picks up a first time this time first down the.
This time he touches the ball and off to a good start here tonight.
Yeah nice play design right there coming underneath.
Good job by Hugley.
Baiting the defensive end.
Kind of like a little screen getting buying time.
Porterfield to get outside.
What a big target.
Yeah he.
Is.
6′3″, 226.
As you mentioned Wayne committed to Georgia State.
It's first and ten.
Hughley heavy rush.
Holley missed him.
Now he's going to run it up to the 34 yard line.
So Kyree Hughley using his legs here effectively tonight.
He's up to the 33.
And it's going to bring up third down.
That's truly had to be an escape artist here tonight.
In this first quarter.
Yeah second down.
Pardon me.
I said third and second.
Second down and six coming up.
Defense was the side of the ball where Roswell returned the most experience from last year's state semifinal team.
Hughley trying to weave through the defense.
Not going to have any luck doing that.
Kylan Fletcher, the linebacker first man there.
Let's check in with John.
And now they're trying to adjust the cleat and the tape so it's comfortable.
He was walking around okay on it hasn't done any kind of quick stops and starts on it yet.
Still under the tent.
We're in rapping.
Chapter two.
Same can't be said for CJ Terry with Gainesville.
He's having problems with that left ankle even after it is wrapped.
Not able to get any kind of thrust at all.
Back to you.
Thanks, John, for the update.
Ball goes out here on the edge and dropped Arshan Sampson, the freshman wide receiver, freshman running back could not hold on to it.
It's going to be fourth down.
Trying to set up the screen to Sampson.
But great pressure once again by Jackson Holley off the edge.
Just not giving Hughley time to even wait for that route to happen.
Having to throw the ball kind of floated high.
Sampson couldn't come down with it.
Looks like he's got a little bit of a limp as he gets ready to come back in here on offense.
Axel Alfaro is the punter standing at the 13 and he boots it down field a line drive kick.
Wow what a bounce.
Wow.
Farro's kick is finally going to roll.
Dead at the six yard line.
Wow.
He kicked that from his 13.
And it stops rolling at the six.
We call that flipping the field right there.
What a great role for the punter.
Good job right there.
I want to make sure we give credit to the right guy.
Now Alfaro is listed on our depth chart as the kicker on our depth chart.
He's 30.
There is no 91 on the roster.
You see he's wearing 91.
But you know when there's a shortage of jerseys you know those kickers sometimes you know they got to take whatever right.
They have to take whatever's left.
So that's.
Probably we're guessing that was Alfaro with that fantastic kick right there.
So after that punt right there maybe he can demand 30.
I want my 30 back.
So here is Roswell back on offense throwing out of the end zone.
It's caught.
Nice play by Chase Jackson to stop and come back to the sideline to get that pass.
Great body adjustment there by the the deep threat of this offense.
Nice throw.
But watch how he adjusts to that throw kind of back shoulder throw.
Good job by Chase Jackson.
Yeah this kid's going to be a big time player.
Came in with 275 yards receiving in their first five games.
And he's already been offered by Alabama State as a tenth grader.
So it's a first down play now for Schlittler looking and throwing on the crossing route.
It's caught by Kalshi and Kalshi out of bounds at about the 17.
Good protection by the offensive line on developing play.
He wanted to hit Sean Smith running down the seam.
Had to wait to cause he came open underneath.
So going to bring up second down and nine.
They got only one on that completion to Kalshi who had three touchdown catches last week in their win over Lanier.
That was a running clock win on the road.
Time-out's going to be called.
Time Out.
Roswell time out.
Roswell.
That is the first time out that they have used.
And it comes with 3-17 to play here in the first quarter.
Let's take a look at that Roswell resume.
Three state championships in their history 1968-1970 under Charlie Horn.
And then in 2006 under Tim McFarland, who we showed you on the sideline here tonight, 16 region titles, nine different coaches have won region titles, including Jonathan Thompson.
Last year in his first year, 15 seasons, ten plus wins.
And this is the 77th season of Roswell.
Football opened up as a little country school back in 1950.
Coach Thompson has his team humming.
They're playing great as a team, don't have a lot of big names, but have a lot of great high school football players.
Yeah, they've got 12 total players on their roster who have college offers.
Contrast that with Gainesville.
They have 29.
Freshmen and sophomores that that at Gainesville.
But this Roswell team, they play tight as a unit and they're having a lot of success right now.
Offensively, though, they're struggling.
It seems, with tempo similar to Gainesville with the plays just don't seem like they're happening fast.
Taking a long time to get the snap going for sledding.
How much do you think that's the defense.
Trying to figure out what the defense is doing, trying to get them confused and run the best play.
Ball comes to county.
Nice open field tackle by Ingram.
Ingram is a guy that coach Bryant says is probably in his mind the most underrated cornerback in the state.
The three star headed to Miami of Ohio.
Great job of getting off that block of Chase Jackson getting up field 6′1″, 180.
Very physical rangy cornerback.
And you know how Coach Bryant loves his secondary.
Yeah that's his baby.
That was the position he coached when he was with Gainesville the first time.
That was part of their 2022 state finals team.
When he was on Josh Niblett's staff.
And then he got his big break in his late 20s because he's just now 31 to become the head coach at Grayson.
I got clothes older than St.
Thomas Ball in the air, incomplete.
Incomplete is going to be.
Just kind of getting rid of the ball.
Too high pressure in his face, throwing the ball there over his head.
And it's this Roswell offense.
Just you can see the frustration as he comes off the field.
And.
So still Roswell unable to get this offense going.
They'll have to give it back here late in the first quarter.
How big was that punt by Alfaro.
Yeah to flip the field.
And then the defense goes out here and hold them to one first down and get him off the field.
Now you set your offense up with great field position.
Snap gets back there.
Pressnell with the line drive kick.
He's going to do the same thing.
Alfaro did get on the ball rugby style kick that finally rolls dead at the 37.
Not quite as far as Alfaro but effective nonetheless.
And that's where Gainesville is going to go on offense with 211 to play in the quarter.
And there is a flag down on the field.
So we'll check the penalty flag there.
Indication from the Roswell sideline is it's going to be against Gainesville.
Before the kick personal foul face mask defense 15 yard penalty replay.
Fourth down.
So if that's a 15 yard penalty on Gainesville's defense would that not give them the first down.
Looks like it would be.
Because it was because it was it was third and it was fourth and ten.
So attack on 15 that gets you past the marker right?
They have not changed that yet.
I'm not sure.
Is it going to mark 15 after the punt.
Maybe.
And.
Sam Tobias Bryant wants an explanation.
Theron Adams is our referee.
He's playing traffic control cop right here with the two officials, two head coaches trying to explain to them what's going on.
Coaches want an explanation too.
We'd like one as well.
I wonder if the question is, did the face mask happen before the ball was punted or after the ball was punted?
But it looks like the Roswell team is taking a walk back down the field.
Some confusion.
Looks like the offense is going to take the field.
They're going to mark off the 15.
If that's the case, that gives Roswell a first down.
They're going to mark it from the 16.
So add 15.
That puts the ball down at the 31.
More than enough for the first down.
There you go 32.
And that should be a first down for Roswell.
And it will be they'll send the offense back out there.
So Roswell gets another set of downs to work with first and ten from their own 32.
A little lethargic here to start this first quarter offense.
Still trying to figure some things out where he wants to go with the ball.
Only 33 yards of offense so far.
Hobart gets the handoff and Holbrook gets slammed down at the 35 yard line after a three yard gain.
So look at the left side of your screen.
You'll see where the face mask infraction happened.
Right there.
And it was actually right.
It was right before the kick.
On the personal protector he was blocking, and the defender grabbed his face mask.
High snap.
He brings it down.
Going to run it instead.
There looked like a face mask right there.
Helmet comes off and he gets taken to the ground.
Out of bounds.
Very close for safety.
Right there with the face mask taking Jason Johnson's face mask off as he tries to stiff arm him.
I think we had dual face mask opportunities here, did we not?
I snap, throwing the timing off on the RPO and right there the face mask.
That's dual face mask.
Both players.
Personal foul face mask.
Offense called.
Against the Hornets.
But not on the defense.
So how do you miss that.
That's clearly a face mask.
How do you see.
How do you see the quarterback face mask but not the defender face.
I think it was all about the helmet coming off right there.
But definitely it was two personal fouls and should have offset each other.
The angle of the official that called the play, but definitely both players.
Pretty hard to miss.
But apparently he did.
Still trying to.
Gainesville is opted to decline the penalty.
It'll be third down.
Okay.
So they want to try to get the ball back.
Interesting that they would decline that though.
Yeah interesting call especially as it's going to be second and six instead of second and 21.
Yeah I'm not sure why they declined the call.
And I think Coach Bryant is still out on the field.
So the officials are trying to get a handle on this game.
Quite frankly, and not doing a very good job of sorry.
That's just the truth.
And now it is third down here, third and ten.
Decided not to take the penalty and make it second and 21.
So now it's third and ten and Schlittler in the deep drop back fires.
And it's going to be caught at the 35 yard line.
That's Magnuson with the catch.
It's going to be a short gain.
And now it's going to be fourth down.
And this is kind of a good example as to why he declined the penalty.
Wants to get the downs over, make him punt it.
Nice job coming up and making that tackle there.
Jordan Caine out of the secondary.
Just not a clean operation so far offensively by Roswell play.
Taking a while to get in.
Uh penalty stalling out.
And we're back to punting.
And we've seen some issues they've had with the snaps.
And now going with that rugby style kick.
Yeah.
So Presnell is going to punt again.
Standing at his 22 snap.
Gets back there clean.
And he puts it away.
Ball is out and may have gotten back on top of it at the 33.
The return man came up to try to field that ball at the last second before it hit the ground, and nearly had a costly turnover.
But Gainesville is going to survive.
You could see initially he was going to let the ball hit the ground late, tried to go get it ball just too low.
Couldn't get underneath it right there.
Dora Morrison and that indecision whether to go field the ball or stay back is what caused that by Morrison.
Can't be indecisive.
So Gainesville back on offense.
They have a 10-0 lead 30-3 seconds to play here in the first quarter.
77 yards of offense for the Red elephants, 40 through the air, 37 on the ground.
And Kyrie Hughley is four of eight passing for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Fires nearly intercepted.
It was in and out of the hands of the wide receiver Wilmont.
And nearly intercepted by Daniels.
Nice break on the ball right there.
Nicholas Daniels playing in that slot against legend.
Wilmont.
I don't really think Hughley saw him here as he stares down on this route.
Great job.
Really threw it right into the chest there.
Daniels If Daniels would have been looking to intercept the ball, it was right there for him.
Second down and ten.
Hughley swings it out here to Brown.
Jordan Brown going to be run down by Fletcher at the 39 yard line.
Might have been the final play of the quarter.
Nice job there by Fletcher.
That was a lot of ground to cover coming with pressure to force a quick throw by Hughley.
Not going to be the final play of the quarter.
Going to snap one here.
Complete again.
And that is Morrison with the catch.
And run up the sideline for the first down.
So Morrison picks up the first on the final play of the first quarter.
And Gainesville moves it up to their 43.
And that's where they will be when we get back for the start of the second quarter.
Gainesville on top 10-0 on the touchdown pass to Porterfield.

As we are back in Rahman Stadium in Roswell, heading to the second quarter in this region.
Seven 6-A showdown.
And it's the fourth ranked Gainesville Red elephants aiming for their fourth victory in a row.
Leading number eight Roswell to nothing.
Matt Stewart, Wayne Gandy and Jon Nelson, but kind of a sluggish, uneven first quarter right.
Very sluggish, very, uh, a lot of things happened in that first quarter.
They're both offenses, uh, struggling to kind of operate with any kind of smoothness.
That's Ruiz in motion behind the line, and the handoff goes to Jordan Brown.
He shoots through the hole up to the 50 yard line.
Jake Smith making the tackle for the Hornets.
Nice job up front center Bryson hurt the three star at North Carolina State.
Jordan Brown and Sampson.
Marshawn Sampson two young guys or Sampson being the freshman, Brown being the senior.
But they've done a great job filling in for some big names.
Brown gets thrown backwards as Fletcher comes up into the hole and gets the TfL.
Watch 26 this ball up.
Nice job avoiding the blocks there on that right side.
Getting underneath Carter Mathis.
Colin Fletcher 63205 true Mike linebacker that loves to play downhill.
Third down and three.
Hughley on the run will get the first down.
Leans the body across the 47 down to the 46.
Great job falling forward.
There was Hughley.
A big kid 6′1″, 216.
He can take those kind of hits.
And he does make himself into a runner.
He looks like a natural running back when he does.
Yeah he's 20 pounds heavier than he was at the end of last season when Gainesville lost to Thomas County Central in the five, a state championship game.
Wilcox comes stepping in close to the line.
High snap off of hands.
Ball is going to be covered by Hughley back at the 38.
These offensive lines is both of them sitting there for a long time.
Just a high snap that got away from Hughley.
Was low enough to be able to catch right there.
Had a little pepper on it coming to him.
But a great job of getting down and recovering that ball.
So second down and 25 ball at the 39 they'll spot it.
They're and again Gainesville playing way behind the sticks.
Holley jumped offsides.
Flag on the field.
Encroachment defense five yard penalty.
Still second down.
We've seen both offenses use that hard count trying to get the defense to declare right there.
Holley and the way he's been exploding to the quarterback catching him.
So second down and 20 following the mark off ball on the 44.
Pocket for Hughley.
Going deep and intercepted at the 27 yard line.
Presnell the Tasmanian Devil getting a play done on defense.
What a beautiful play by Tyler Presnell.
We talked about in the open.
A young man that's just counted on to do everything kind of just laid this ball up there.
Not really sure how he missed Preston Glenn right there, but a great job playing center field going up at the high point and bring the ball down.
Watch eyes on it.
Beautiful job.
Just taking the ball away from the receiver.
To me perhaps the most phenomenal stat with Tyler Presnell is he's their punter.
But he also leads them in blocked punts.
He is a special player that Coach Thompson says.
It's basically their best player.
When you look at his production out on the field.
Yeah, he's been offered by Brown out of the Ivy League.
Comes up with a big play, gets the interception, gets the ball across midfield.
First and ten for the Hornets at the Gainesville 48.
They're down 10-0 Schlittler throws too far in front for Causey.
Right there.
Just staring down Causey on that throw looking out of the slot.
Just not a smooth operation.
Not yet for this Roswell offense.
5-9 passing just 27 yards.
And he has only 3 yards rushing averages 94 a game.
And before the game Jonathan Thompson said he's going to need more than 94 yards rushing today.
And he's nowhere close to that right now.
Pocket going deep and incomplete inside the five yard line.
Kalshi again was the target and they had tight coverage back there.
Marcus Marcus Sims, the free safety.
Marcus Sims right there.
Doing a great job in this secondary.
It's just a whole bunch of stars.
Hard to throw against him.
Watch two running step for step.
But Causey just nowhere for that ball.
No way to make a play on it.
Good job there by the senior free safety.
Yeah he's a three year starter.
Has three offers including UMass.
Third down and ten.
Hobart in motion.
Ball in the air.
Far sideline jump ball and nearly intercepted.
And then a flag comes out.
Yeah.
Flag out at the 30 1 yard line.
That ball was nearly intercepted.
Big pressure off the edge.
Tim Cole bearing down on.
50 50 ball there.
Ja'corey hunt nearly had the pick.
Defense 15 yard penalty.
First down.
Tough call right there.
Cornerback getting the hand in there knocking the ball out.
Didn't get his head around.
So maybe because he didn't get his head around that contact they decided was interference.
But a big break.
Here it is.
For this Roswell offense.
Gives the Hornets a first down at the 33 yard line.
Bails him out on a play that was nearly intercepted.
And they get set thinking that Roswell might not have gotten set.
Ready for play.
Signal had not been given yet.
Still first down.
Tried to quick snap.
Slemmer.
You have to wonder about that ankle while he's running the ball.
He tries to run into that line and has no place to go with it.
How much is that hindering him?
Being able to be explosive, running the ball player's helmet coming off.
So player's helmet off.
That's Terrell Russell who's the junior, leads him with nine TfL.
He's got to come off the field.
Second down and ten.
Empty backfield.
Where is Sean Smith in this situation.
The big tight end.
Nearly intercepted would have been a pick six had Darren Williams been able to hold on to it.
Great job trying to force this ball into.
Just talked about Sean Smith.
Watch zero coming to your screen.
Just staring him down right there.
Great job of getting that right hand in there by Darren Williams.
So third down and ten.
Roswell is zero for four on third down conversions so far tonight.
Schlittler pocket overthrows his man by a mile.
It's going to be fourth down.
Just tough work.
Jakari hunt right there.
The junior 6′1″, 176.
This secondary is just talented.
No matter who they rotate in there they're very confident that they can play bump man.
They can play zone.
They have the talent back there.
Just tough sledding so far for sled against this secondary.
And you mentioned hunt.
He's the Back up boundary corner and he's got offers from Florida International and Colorado.
State.
As the size has the speed and the confidence.
Definitely the secondary is a reflection of their head coach.
So Preston got the interception that got him on the plus side of the 50.
But now Preston is in there to.
Preston is going to run for the fake here and he might get it.
He's got him inside the 20.
Inside the 15.
Stumbling down to the ten.
And there is the dynamicism of Tyler Preston.
And that's why he's so valuable to this team.
And sometimes you forget that he is a running back.
He's listed as a backup running back.
Great job making a man miss there in the open field, running through tackles, stumble.
And that's why his coach says he's such a great player.
Their best player.
Nice job here.
That's Jeremiah Proctor right there.
He got out of that tackle of the four star.
Great job by Preston.
So first and goal to go for the Hornets just inside the ten yard line.
8.5 minutes to play here in the first half.
Handoff goes to Kalshi.
Kalshi down to the seven.
Draycott Kalshi the 510175 senior.
Time out for players.
Helmet coming.
Off.
And the player helmet.
That's about the fourth time we've had that so far in the game.
Tied nose, chin straps up.
How many times did your helmet come off in your career?
Maybe three.
Exactly.
Your entire career.
We've had four here tonight right.
And two of them was intentional.
Somebody probably pushed him off.
From the seven.
The handoff gets blown up.
That's going to be a TfL for Gainesville.
Darren Williams there to meet Hobart in the hole.
Miss Darren Williams don't know the name.
This is a special player.
Watch six.
He's going to play downhill right there.
Good job for him.
Tackling 6′1″, 214.
Saw him last year when there was a whole bunch of stars.
We saw.
Those guys going to Alabama and Darren Williams was the guy that was the brightest, right?
He was making all the plays.
The three star headed to Wake Forest.
Yeah, he really was.
They had Jamarion Matthews, they had Elijah Griffin and they had they had Aidan Caine who's now at Duke.
I mean, they were stocked.
Schlittler spins wants to throw to the end zone and dropped.
Jackson could not hold on to it.
Is Amari Bailey right there?
The backup field corner in there.
His secondary is talented.
Doing a great job rolling out there delivering the ball and watch eight.
Just pull in there late to get that ball out.
Yeah it was dropped because Bailey swiped down on it and knocked it out of his hands.
A little behind Chase Jackson, but a good job there by Bailey.
Riley Chambers on for a 17 yard kick.
And it is good.
So Riley Chambers converts gets Roswell on the board with the 17 yard kick.
And it's 10-3 Georgia.

Heads up, Georgia.
Welcome back to Rahman 714.
For the first half.
And the margin is now down to seven.
And I guess Matt, this particular hit on the sideline has brought to us by the letter S. You talk about what Centerville Bryant has been able to do.
It's about Centerville.
The sophomores and the schedule out of the blocks.
0-2 losing to Buford and East St.
Louis.
We did the math.
32 sophomores on this roster getting early reps on an 83 person roster that's close to about 40% of this group is tenth graders learning on the fly here in the state of Georgia.
Getting that 0-2 start coming back with wins against Oceanside Collegiate, McEachern and Alpharetta to get them to this point.
It's been an interesting learning lesson for this group of red elephants, most of them tenth graders.
Yeah, no doubt they've played a tough schedule.
As you mentioned, four of their five teams ranked in the top ten.
Three of those four ranked number one in their states as the kicks going to go to the back of the end zone.
Nonreturnable and Gainesville is going to bring it out to the 20.
So.
So Gainesville has one state championship that came in 2012 under head coach Bruce Miller and a quarterback you saw on Thursday Night Football last night, Deshaun Watson.
Yeah taking down my Steelers last night.
Great job.
Great bounce back bounce back year for Deshaun Watson.
Nine state runner up finishes including last year.
And in 2022.
And they've won 30-3 region titles.
But they've lost this year to number one.
Buford Georgia seven a number one East St.
Louis number one 6-A in Illinois, Oceanside Collegiate.
They beat number 13 A in South Carolina.
And McEachern, who they beat, was not ranked in the top ten at the time they beat him was the team that was ranked in the top ten at the start of the season.
So they play a tough schedule.
This Gainesville offense start establishing the run with Brown and Samson got this big, talented Miami, North Carolina State, Pitt line up there, established the line of scrimmage, let the big boys go to work.
Hughley in the air fires.
That's complete.
That's a first down.
Porterfield with another catch.
That's his third catch of the night up to the 36.
That'll move the sticks.
Nice job.
Play action fake.
Just swinging in there to the big body.
Good job of catching that ball a little behind him.
Porterfield.
But he's having a great first half here for his team.
Yeah if anybody's been a star of the game so far it's Colin Porterfield.
First and ten from the 37.
Handoff.
Short gain up to the 41 pick up of four on the play.
Again the ball carrier.
And that was the freshman Marshawn Sampson.
They've had Jordan Brown and Marshawn Sampson as their two running backs here as Nigel Newkirk and PJ Lewis on the min.
PJ Lewis is back.
We've seen him in the game here tonight.
Who knows when Newkirk could be back.
Centerville, Bryant seem to be optimistic that he is going to play this year, but this is game number six.
Hasn't played yet.
Porterfield with another catch, gets the first down.
And a flag out as well.
Porterfield now with four catches in this game.
Nice job.
Going to get the ball for his quarterback.
Porterfield.
You can see personal foul face mask defense 15 yard penalty.
First down.
Just just think what this Gainesville offense would be Wayne if you're able to put Newkirk back in the mix.
He's rated the number six running back in the country.
Committed to Alabama.
Last time I checked.
They take pretty good running backs in Alabama.
Yeah definitely.
You can get him back come November.
At least in that that playoff run, that kind of talent.
Along with Dwight PJ Lewis and the way that Porterfield is catching this ball.
We know what Hughley can do.
Very dangerous offense.
Jordan Brown with the run that time flag out again.
The ball carrier.
With the tackle for Roswell flag on the field.
So we'll check the penalty call with 548 to play here in the first half.
Illegal formation on the offense.
That penalty has been declined.
It'll be second down.
So brings up second down and ten.
Gainesville offense once again.
Penalties and mental errors when they have a little momentum going for themselves not costing them any yardage right there.
This is the fifth all time meeting.
First time these two teams ever played.
1985 state quarterfinals.
Hughley to the air.
Complete.
Porterfield again.
Colin Porterfield putting on a clinic.
That's five catches here in the first half.
Nice job there.
And he's working against one of the top guys in the secondary for Roswell Christian English.
So that's a great match up there.
Porterfield and English got a chance to see wide receiver coach Travis Taylor.
Gainesville TfL right there.
Jackson Holly drops Jordan Brown for a loss.
Jackson.
Holly we've seen the pressure that he can bring right there working underneath that block of Tyler Ford Miami Florida State battle right there between Ford and Holly.
Florida State won at that time.
That doesn't happen very often.
Anymore, does it?
Wide, right.
It's been a while, right?
Second down.
Here's something.
The play is just coming in slow, slow developing.
High snap.
Ball is loose and Gainesville gets on top of it.
At the 41.
They get bailed out right there by the tight end.
AJ Watson who falls on the ball.
Almost.
This is hard to understand.
These balls are within the range of where Hughley can bring them in.
They are some fastballs coming back, but once again fortunate to fall on that.
Yeah.
So far this game has been nothing like the last two games between these two teams.
Under four to play in the half, third down and 23.
Hughley in the drop hit as he throws and it's caught by Morrison going out of bounds for the first down at the 12 for the 13.
Huge catch by Doyle Morrison their top wide receiver statistically.
Right here.
Pressure able to avoid the rush.
Pressure in his face.
Kind of sidearm this ball to Morrison.
Great job of catching this ball and staying in bounds right there.
Wow.
Gainesville on the verge of scoring another touchdown here.
Hughley no running room.
Hughley is going to get knocked down.
Jackson Holly in on that tackle.
Hayes Kendall Lee and on that tackle.
That'll bring up second down.
Neither quarterback Hughley or Slater have been able to do anything running the ball tonight.
These defenses and sometimes when you play a team that kind of moves the ball the same way, it's easy to practice against because that's something a feature you've been practicing against since August second.
Down and ten.
But Gainesville right here up ten three and a chance to go up 17-3 Pass in the middle, broken up right there at the goal line trying to go to Morrison.
Nice play on defense by Kwamie McAllister.
Nice job there by the junior.
Those physical safeties along with Ian Foul's.
Qom McAllister breaking on this ball trying to run that that slant route inside to Morrison.
Third down and ten.
They can pick up a first around the two.
Once again trying to get the defense to declare going with the heart count is hugely.
If you're Roswell you got to remember that this quarterback loves to get outside the pocket, play off schedule, make something happen.
Hughley looking for the end zone.
Coming to the inside corner.
Jump ball and caught by Morrison.
Did he get his feet down.
He did touch Gainesville.
Morrison goes up the elevator and comes down with it.
So we'll check that replay.
It looked close to maybe being out of bounds, but the official was right there and called touchdown.
Just throwing a jump ball right there.
Let's see if he could get.
Yeah he has right there.
Got that right foot in as he's being pushed out of bounds once again going up to get the ball there.
Morrison that right foot right there.
That is a touchdown.
Great job.
Great concentration to get that foot down.
And a great job by the officials.
Get that call right.
It was a bang bang play.
And the Pat is good.
And it's 17-3 for Gainesville.
Hughley with his second touchdown pass of the night.
And a super play by Morrison to haul it in.
Gainesville leads by two touchdowns.

Coming up around the corner.
It's the halftime show.
We get to catch up with our friends at Georgia's EMC, find out where the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award is this week.
Find out what's going on at the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
Find out what's going on with our friends from Cigna.
We got scores from a lot of important matches and games, and a lot of stuff going on around the state.
Folks getting into region play.
And personally, I would like to thank both Matt and Wayne for reintroducing Florida State's losses in the college football field.
I would like to thank you both as the alum on this broadcast.
Well, you know what, John?
It's our job just to tell the truth.
Sure it is.
Yeah, we'll go there.
Like George Washington.
We cannot tell a lie.
Monahan on the return.
Oh, wow.
He got leveled.
Wow, what a big hit.
Monahan trying to get to the other sideline.
Got steamrolled.
And that's where Roswell will go on offense.
Big hit here 32 Dallas Ferguson trying to cross the field.
Just can't get to the other side of the field.
What a big hit there by Ferguson.
So this is a Roswell offense Wayne that averages 35 points per game.
They averaged 332 yards per game.
And right now they have three points and 60 yards.
It's been tough sledding penalties, mental errors, not able to capitalize.
Preston gets there.
The ball down here on the fake pond and you're not able to punch it in.
But right here you got 233.
You just got to start executing.
Move the ball down the field.
Have more confidence when you break the huddle that you the pressure is on him.
They have two time-outs remaining.
That ball is tipped into the air and nearly intercepted.
That was a near devastating disaster for Roswell right there.
We talked about this secondary Moseley proctor Sims Ingram.
Look across the board and the speed of these linebackers.
Just getting the hand right there.
The man himself Daryl Williams Darren Williams excuse me special player.
Each and every time we've seen him in a uniform he's just a playmaker.
Uh he is rightfully and deserving to be headed to Wake Forest.
Yeah.
Williams never disappoints does he?
He does not.
He's a heck of a player.
6′1″, 214 the senior leader of this group.
So second down and ten.
Let's see if Roswell can get something going here to the air.
Throws incomplete.
Looking for Sean Smith.
And a flag out back in the offensive backfield.
Do we have a roughing call coming up.
I didn't see the play.
A little inside battle there.
Aiden Howard.
Pushing and shoving after the play.
Hands to the face.
I saw a helmet come off.
So that's a good chance that those hands pushed that helmet off, don't you think?
So Theron Adams going to step up to the microphone.
After the play.
Personal foul defense, 15 yard penalty.
It'll be a first down.
It's going to be 15 from the end of the run.
Yeah.
Right there.
You can see right there as he punches cannot throw that punch right there young man.
But they called the penalty on Gainesville.
At the.
34 yard line.
Yeah.
So first and ten ball at the 34.
Heavy rush stands in there.
Fires nobody in the area cold.
I think Jackson was the target but he did not break off his route.
Nice job there.
Tight coverage.
Once again, Marcus Sims running step to step.
Chase Jackson just trying to get the ball out to Jackson.
I think Jackson was supposed to break to the sideline and didn't.
That's a tough secondary to have to continue to make second and long third and long against.
If you're Matthew.
So second down and ten.
Time for Smith.
Sean Smith.
The tight end has the catch rather pardon me.
Proctor gets him on the ground.
But that's going to be a first down for Roswell.
By number seven.
Jeremiah.
I talked about the talents of Sean Smith the three star young junior with 19 offers including Georgia Tech.
Ball out and coming back to the sideline and making the catch is Kelsey.
37 yard line.
Second down.
Ball across midfield now at the 47 clock.
Continues to run now 148.
Schlittler going for the home run ball.
Got a nice ball there and it is incomplete.
Proctor was back there.
I think it got through his hands but Kalshi couldn't hold on to it.
Yeah just a tough catch there.
By Kalshi.
Good ball.
Earned it out right there.
You can see him a little shaking right here.
Has a chance.
And just couldn't hold on to the ball.
Tight coverage.
Once again Marcus Sims is back there.
Jeremiah Proctor breaking on.
It just couldn't bring that down.
Was causing.
Yeah proctor never touched it.
It got all the way through the Kalshi and he couldn't hold on to it.
So third down and four.
Incomplete.
Fourth down and four.
Let's see what they do.
94 seconds left in the half.
You got to feel like you in this situation.
Keep the ball with Max.
Let him create get him outside the pocket.
Keeping the offense out on the field.
If you don't convert here, you give Gainesville a potential very short field and still plenty of time left in the half 94 seconds.
So they're going to call a time-out and think about.
Time.
Out Roswell.
So Roswell uses their second time out.
So this is a big fourth down play coming up for Roswell.
You have to feel if they're going to keep this play on you.
You want to get Max lady.
To me in a situation where he's on the move.
So if he doesn't like what he sees with his ability to improvise and run the ball, he still has a chance to make this play happen.
Let's take a look at the top five prospects on this Roswell team.
As we mentioned, 12 players with college offers headlined by Miller Westerfield, the three star offensive tackle committed to Georgia.
Jackson Holley, the three star defensive end committed to Florida State.
Sean Smith, the tight end, is just a junior.
He is uncommitted, has 19 offers, Georgia Tech among them Nick Daniels, three star cornerback is uncommitted, and he's got a number of offers, but he's been hurt, got nicked up a little bit, so he's kind of a senior evaluation player now.
He's 23.
Offers include Liberty, Miami of Ohio and UConn and then Christian English, the cornerback who's just a junior, has 11 offers, including Pitt and Maryland.
Offense coming back out on the field.
Let's see if they can get Matt Ciletti on some kind of roll out here so he can have the ability to make something happen with his legs.
Empty backfield on a fourth and four coming out of the time-out.
All about the look up front.
Plenty shotgun scrambling.
Lots of open field.
Going to throw on the run into traffic.
And it's intercepted back at the 13 yard line.
As good as the punt really.
That ball is intercepted.
Going to go over to the Gainesville Red elephants.
Jaleel goalie the four star cornerback one of the top cornerbacks in the country in 2028.
That's an easy pick for him.
Yeah.
Goalie just falling off the route right here trying to make something happen.
Matt Slatey just kind of airing it out here and goalie coming off of his coverage of the salsa making that interception.
Yeah, I thought that he had a chance to run for the first down.
Yeah.
And initially you felt like.
And how much did that ankle bothering him in a situation like that.
But right there just throwing the ball down the field.
Interception for Gainesville.
Yeah we did see him in the tent earlier.
And John Nelson reported on his medical condition, had it heavily taped.
Looks like Gainesville might be content to burn the rest of the clock here as they run the ball to Jordan.
Brown picks up 1 yard on the play, but they're quick back up to the line of scrimmage, so we'll.
See.
Second down.
Definitely want to run this operation that you don't find yourself giving this ball back to Gainesville.
Ball is going to be caught by Wilmont at the 20.
Going to run up the sideline and step out of bounds close to the 30.
That'll stop the clock with 55 seconds.
Kurtz Porterfield has been your main target in this situation.
Can you find a way to get him on that 111 on one matchup down the field.
Take a chance here on this first down.
Play.
Porterfield five catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Doyle Morrison four catches 47 yards and a touchdown 120 yards in the air for Gainesville from Hughley.
Heavy rush.
Jackson Holley giving chase going to throw across his body and incomplete.
Jackson Holley really showing off that pass rush skill right there.
Definitely showing you the speed at 6′4″, 225.
Very explosive as Coach Thompson said twitchy maybe the twitchy player he's seen.
And he shows you his ability to get off the ball and get up.
Field came in with 29 total tackles, six TfL, a couple of quarterback sacks.
He's already picked up a TfL tonight, transfer from Alpharetta, standing up on the left side of that defensive line.
Hughley going to run it.
Hughley out to the 40.
Great balance up to the 49.
Let's see if they burn a time out.
They do.
Very heady play by Hughley to pick up the first down immediately before he gets up off of his behind.
He signals for the time-out.
Looking at that slant on the short side of the field.
Didn't like it.
Decided to tuck the ball down and go get some yardage here.
Well, you just imagine they have to try something going down the field here vertically.
I thought he called for the time-out, but apparently he did not.
So the clock's running again, slinging it downfield, and his wide receiver didn't turn around to see it.
That was Wilmont streaking down the sideline.
Stops the clock 0:26 Second down.
Monte running a go route.
Just never turned around.
Even look at the quarterback as Hughley had already let the ball go.
Second down and ten ball sitting at the 48.
Empty backfield here.
Gainesville you get something vertical.
Try this secondary on the back end.
Sidearm pass comes here to parrot.
Parrot.
Haven't called his name since he opened the game with a 50 yard kick return.
He gets the first down at the 39.
Another time out used I think so Gainesville has one left.
So they can keep that Time-out for a field goal.
Gainesville receiver screen down low and just tripped himself down as he tried to get back to the outside as parrot had some room out there to make more out of.
That just fell down.
Tripping on his own, tripping over his own feet.
Yeah, that's just the third catch of the season for parrot.
Let's take a look at the top five prospects for the Gainesville Red elephants.
29 players with college offers.
So there's a bunch of them.
Jahlil Goldie, who we saw have the pick just a few moments ago.
The four star corner uncommitted.
He's just a junior.
He's rated as high as number four corner in the class of 2028-38 offers, including Georgia Kareem Hughley, the four star cornerback quarterback, long time commitment to Clemson Nigel Newkirk still injured four star running back, committed to Alabama.
Jeremiah Proctor, the four star linebacker who they play at safety, committed to Pitt.
Tyler Ford, the left tackle, three star offensive tackle, committed to Miami.
Throw Carter Mathis up there and he just have a. I mean you got you got an all ACC offensive line playing in region 768.
It's pretty amazing for the left tackle.
Committed to Miami.
As we just pointed out hurt the center committed to NC state.
Mathis the right tackle 67300 NFL size committed to Pitt.
Final 18 seconds of the half.
Gainesville trying to stack some more points here.
Morrison they swing it out there to him.
Can't hold on to it.
Right there.
If you're Huguely you got to put that on Morrison out there.
A lot of room to work with.
If he can catch that ball.
Man to man coverage out there, his kind of talent.
Morrison Travis Taylor, the former Georgia excuse me, Florida Gators wide receiver coach, said that Morrison is just a tremendous talent.
Alex Alfaro is there.
Long range field goal kicker.
They got to a short kicker and a long kicker.
Alfaro is the long kicker.
Let's see if they can get in the range for him.
As Wilmont makes the grab and gets out of bounds with 5 seconds.
To get out of bounds.
In that area where the real tight to try to run a play, a quick out.
Yeah, I mean you gotta go to the end.
Zone right here you go for the end zone or try the long field goal.
So this would be right here about a 50 yard field goal.
The danger you have, especially in high school, but any level, but especially in high school, is that the kicker doesn't have enough leg to get the trajectory on the ball over the line.
So he kicks it line drive, trying to get the distance and it gets blocked.
The.
So that's the fear for anytime you're going to try a long field goal.
If they attempt to do that here.
That's your concern as a head coach.
Again.
And the way that Porterfield is size, you imagine he's going to be the point man.
If it's something going to the end zone and any kind of way, you can kind of just get the ball to hang up there.
If you Hughley for him to bring it down.
Yeah, I think that a jump ball with Morrison and Porterfield right there in a bunch.
And see if one see if somebody can come down with it.
Cosmetic satisfaction.
If you are looking for a dentist to provide the best care.
So that time out was called by Roswell.
They don't have any left.
Gainesville does have one remaining, but I don't know if that's going to be of any consequence right here.
So John Nelson down on the sideline believes they're going to try a quick hitter here.
They have to be really quick to get a little bit closer for a field goal attempt.
That's exactly what they do.
Porterfield the catch 1 second on the clock.
So it does work.
Great operation right there.
A little stop route.
Keep it on the edge.
Good job there Porterfield.
Going to the big body.
He can get out of bounds.
Give your kicker here 1 second to try this long field goal.
So that was the seventh catch for Porterfield here in the first half.
And now Faro is going to try a 42 yard kick from the left.
Hash.
Back up quarterback is the holder.
They get it down and the kick is on its way.
And it is good.
Just got it over the crossbar.
Alfaro nails a 42 yarder on the final play of the half, and Gainesville has a 20-3 lead.
Great job, great operation in the two minute situation of walking the ball down.
Nothing bigger than with 5 seconds being able to complete that ball to Porterfield and get out of bounds for that, try.
Time now for our Johnny's New York style pizza halftime interview with Santa Bryant, and let's send it down to Nelson.
Thank you very much, Matt, here with the coach.
You had 5 seconds and it was.
If it's not there, get rid of it and go from 50.
But you got it from 40 plus.
Yes, sir.
Yes sir.
Man asks Alfaro.
Man done a hell of a job.
Just getting better all year, man.
And again we saw him bang one in practice like that.
So we felt confident about it.
How would you describe this first half?
It seemed either very, very clunky from an offensive standpoint or very, very stout from a defensive standpoint.
Yeah, man.
A little bit of both.
We've done some things to you know what I'm saying?
Penalize ourselves some things that we've done.
Self-Inflicted wounds.
Again, we got to get that cleaned up in the second half and really go take over this game.
Looking forward to seeing it.
Thanks for hanging out.
Thank you.
Have a good one.
There he goes.
Sam Davis Bryant he is up 17 as we go to the break here at halftime.
Show coming up around the corner from Rahman Stadium.
Football Fridays in Georgia continues on the great GPB stick and stay.
We'll be right back.
Is your phone really more important than someone's life?

Welcome back to Raymond Stadium.
We are at the half band is going and the margin is 17 20-3 off the last second field goal for the Red Elephants of Gainesville.
Welcome.
Here it is.
John Nelson here.
All of you there.
Thanks for accessing us.
However, you were doing so here at the halftime and now it's time to catch up as we take the tour with all of our friends here at Georgia Public Broadcasting, we go out I-20, we let you know what's going on in Covington, the Georgia EMC and the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
This trip was to Eastside.
Take a look.
Snapping Shoals, EMC and 35 other participating Georgia Electric membership cooperatives congratulate Eastside High on winning the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
This award honors schools that exhibit exemplary sportsmanship during competitive events.
Only one school in each region.
Each classification is chosen to receive this annual award.
The GHC takes into consideration all aspects of sportsmanship, making the award a tribute to the entire community.
We are so pleased to be here at Eastside High School in Newton County, presenting them with the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
It is amazing to see how this school has been selected for this.
One of the wonderful things that we like to see in the community, getting along with each other, showing this kind of sportsmanship and moving forward in life.
Introduced in 2006, this award reinforces the GHSA philosophy that everyone associated with high school activities, from athletes to spectators, should adhere to the fundamental values it represents.
It means a lot to us.
It talks so much about just our teachers, our counselors, our all of our staff coaches.
It just shows the embodiment of everything that we believe in here, that we graduate excellence and that we every day is important.
At Eastside, we have great camaraderie.
Everybody likes each other, good sportsmanship with people that we play against, people in the region, people in the state.
So I mean, it's an honor.
Honestly.
I think it's a really big honor.
I love getting to be on the sidelines with my teammates and getting to be the person that's like, hey, make sure you clap for them.
Make sure you cheer for them.
Make sure like, hey, keep everybody in high spirits.
We might be down a point, but keep pushing point for point and getting to see the next generation do the same exact thing.
After that slight correction means the world.
Georgia EMC and the 36 participating Georgia Electric membership cooperatives are proud to sponsor the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
Congratulations to the Eastside Eagles community.
As always, great to catch up with our friends from Georgia EMC.
Thank them for being a great partner with us here at Football Fridays and at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And great to see our new friends out there at Eastside.
We're going to go to break.
But as a reminder, in this particular break from us here at Rahman, you're going to find out what's going on with our friends at you.
Save it.
And this focus this week is on Saland Green class of 20:27 at Frederick Frederick Douglass High School in downtown Atlanta.
So Astro fan, very, very proud of Jalen.
He knew from an early age what he wanted to accomplish, stepped on to his high school campus, set his sights on winning the state championships in the 100 and 200 meters.
He accomplished exactly that multi-sport star.
So on the football field, multiple positions, wherever he's needed punt return, kick return receiver and anywhere the elite speed can make an impact.
His speed is what sets him apart.
Work ethic is what continues to push him forward.
Works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the field, as he is already committed to the Pirates of East Carolina.
You'll learn his story coming up here in just a little bit as we take a break from Romania Stadium.
The visitors have the lead.
Football Fridays in Georgia halftime continues and rolls on after this.
This kid, when he came through the door, he knew what he wanted in life.
He had goals.
He knew he wanted to win 100 in state.
He did that.
You know, he wanted to win the 200 in state.
He did that.
We use them all over the place.
Kickoff return, punt return, everything.
His elite speed does separate him.
But I think it's more than that.
The way Xavion can get in and out of his breaks as like a slot receiver would, but his speed sets him apart because he can also play on the outside.
He's a hard working kid.
He practiced hard.
He does it in the classroom and on the field.
Welcome back to Rahman.
It's halftime show rolls on once again, thanks to our friends at you.
Save it and a fantastic visit to Astro Fan and Douglas High where we caught up with Jalen and what he's looking forward to as he will continue at East Carolina block now, which means that's our second block of stuff.
That's the official TV term.
Time to catch up with our friends from Cigna and our signature moment.
This week we find out about the dangers of opioids.
Here's our visit.
Opioid abuse is on the rise here in Georgia, and overdoses have spiked since 2020.
Crick Erickson, Cigna Healthcare, general manager for Georgia and Alabama, is here with tips for parents on how to protect their kids.
Kirk, this topic is so important.
How serious is this crisis?
It's very serious.
Hannah and it often starts very innocently.
You could have properly prescribed medications that come in a 30 day supply.
But the reality is one in five are actually prone to addiction.
After just ten days of use.
So even though the opioids might have been prescribed properly, it's the access to them that can lead to improper utilization.
And then addiction exposure.
So how does this affect our kids?
What should parents do?
Well, if you think about it, it could be a child who accesses leftover pills again from a properly prescribed situation with a parent.
A child may have had wisdom teeth that were removed.
There could have been a car accident, so maybe they were prescribed directly to the child.
It's once they get on them and once they start them, it can be really difficult to get off of them.
So we want to make sure that we're watching for symptoms of maybe backing off of normal relationships that they're in, maybe not having the, the normal energy that they have, and maybe just feeling like they're hiding things from their parents.
How can viewers help opioid strugglers even more?
Well, so talk to your doctor.
There's a lot of help that's out there.
And I think a really great thing is that behavioral care has been destigmatized.

Brookwood and Park View the Battle of Five Forks, Trickum and a special thank you Frenchie.
Hit it as we go to break.
Hey guys, it's Jeff Francois.
Uh, first I want to congratulate GPB on 30 years of high school football.
High school football in Georgia, as we all know, is a huge deal.
But you all help make it that bringing us the best games of the week, the best coverage.
On the outside.
It's Frank Gore down the sideline and he is cut down at the 20 yard line.
And that is one of the great athletes in the state.
And in high school, high school setting.
There's no better job than what you all do.
My favorite memory was being on it, of course, my senior year at Northside Warner Robins, we went down there, won 12-7 and they called it the night that the lights went out in Georgia.
Thank God we were down at Northside and not at Parkview, but it was a great memory.
But thanks for 30 great years.
I know that y'all are going to continue to do a great job.
High school football is in the blood for a lot of us, but thank you again.
Uh, for 30 great years into 30 more guys.
Is your phone really more important than someone's life?
When you take your eyes off the road, you're not just putting your life in danger.
In fact, two out of three people killed in distracted driving crashes in Georgia were not the distracted driver.
It could have been.
This family, this college student, this little girl.
So when you're tempted to scroll, don't pick up.
Think heads up.
You never know whose life you could save.
A message from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
All right.
What do you think, Jasper?
Honestly, I think that polyester shirts affecting your game.
What?
I think cotton would have been a better choice.
Cotton?
Yeah, it's come a long way.
You know, nowadays, cotton breeze and wicks moisture.
Great.
But buying cotton means supporting Georgia farmers.
I think that's wonderful.
Okay, sure.
But what do you think about the putt?
Oh, it's really hadn't thought about it.
I'm BJ green with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Congrats to GPB on 30 years of covering high school football in Georgia.

Once again, thanks to all the shout outs and thanks to our staff behind the scenes, by the way, who assembled all of these, finding all of their sources and all of their contacts.
It's been fun to see who's been responding and who's been answering the curtain call this year, as we celebrate our 30th season of sports and football here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
All right, it's that time.
Make sure you're properly stretched.
Make sure that anything liquid is outside of your range to where you don't knock it over.

Let's make that kid an offer for this week.
Let's go to the scoreboard, let you know what's going on, because it has brought to us by our friends at Georgia's EMCs so much more than electricity.
And that includes scores.
Cartersville, by the way, Braden Doss scored to make it 22-0 on Cass and it is 43-0 That one's already rolling.
That one's going to be a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Big statement for Cartersville and the canes, Newton and Westlake.
We figured this one was going to be back and forth.
It certainly is one point margin there.
Lee County and Coffee.
Lee County was up 15 in the first.
They're up 15.
And that clock is still rolling.
Big win looming right now for Lee County.
And Dean Fabrizio with the murderous schedule that they've had.
We've talked about the schedule that Gainesville has had.
Lee County schedule is just nuts.
When you look at their non-region.
Sandy Creek was up 216 in the second quarter.
Sandy Creek has doubled that.
They're now 426 over Woodland Stockbridge, and that one ends page one on page two.
I think this is the first time that we've ever had back to back divorces on a page when it comes to scores, because Father Steve is coaching veterans and veterans and Thomas County Central.
It was 76, and it's now 346.
That one's at the break.
And his son Jess is at Taylor County.
That one is divorce, knee versus shed whisper 127.
That one is at the intermission.
Holy innocents and Nick Perrotta leading Lovett by the score of 22-0 And that one is in the books as well.
Another couple of scores that we can give you going around the state.
The first real final, that first late score that we have is Lincoln County leading SI.
That one is heading to the fourth quarter, and Lincoln County is in control of that one.
And that one was 217 heading to the fourth quarter.
You've also got Lowndes with their lead right now in the second quarter over Winter Haven, Dority over Shaw is our first final 40 45-0 there.
Colquitt leading Records of Florida 14 13.
That one is going.
That one's in the second quarter, and it's going to be good to see our friends in Moultrie coming up in just a bit.
Pierce Leading beach by 29 at the break.
Thomasville leading Brooks County second quarter.
That one is 247.
It was 107.
That one has gone to a margin of 17.
Treutlen leading Turner County.
That one is 106 at the break.
Houston County it was 77.
Houston County now leading Tift 287.
That one is in the second quarter.
We're going to go to break.
When we come back, we're going to find out what's going on with Jonathan Thompson and what J.T.
Talked to his troops about with Roswell.
They've got some work to do.
They are down 17 as we come back to halftime.
Winding up second 24 coming up around the corner.
Football Fridays and Georgia on the great GPB.
Roswell's got work to do.
Gainesville up 17.
Thanks for hanging out with us at the half.
We'll be back in just a bit.

Back in Roswell in a 20-3 lead for Gainesville, Matt Stewart, along with Wayne Gandy upstairs and Wayne.
It's been all red elephants.
They have nearly tripled the yardage of the Hornets as this Roswell team, averaging 35 points per game, has been shut down so far.
Yes.
Just not been able to find any real offensive movement.
When you look at how they've been able to run the ball that's been absent, Matthew Skrmetti has not been able to find anything deep down the field either.
And time now for our Johnny's New York style pizza halftime interview with Jonathan Thompson.
And John Nelson is standing by.
Thank you very much, Matt, here with the coach.
What did you talk to him about at the half?
I know it came down to a couple of moments at least.
You know big play here, big play there.
How would you characterize this first 20:04.
I mean, I think we're about to find out who we are, right?
We talk about being resilient.
We talk about being connected.
We're going to find out how resilient, how connected we really are in the second half.
So that's what we challenged them to do.
And Gainesville was getting pressure keeping everything contained.
And you were having to try and work things outside the tackles.
When you look at that offensively, how do you think you can adjust to all of that weight coming.
At you?
Right.
We just got to win first downs, right?
When you don't win first downs and you're in second and longs, it makes it challenging, right?
So we got to find ways to run the football on first down and create some explosive on first downs.
So we're not in second and ten.
Thanks JT yes sir.
Thank you all.
All right.
Let's send it back upstairs and find out how we got to this particular moment in time guys.
Yeah.
Nellie let's take a look at the first half highlights.
Wayne.
And started with a big 50 yard kick return by Gainesville that set up their first points of the day.
And then Porterfield had a huge first half.
That was the touchdown catch for him.
He has seven catches in the first half.
And then right here Hughley hitting Noah Morrison in the corner.
Great job of him getting that foot down for the second touchdown.
And then Alfaro adds a 42 yard field goal on the final play of halftime.
And it's a 20-3 lead a 17 point lead for Gainesville.
As you take a look at halftime stats, what jumps off the page at.
Roswell and effective running the ball only 33 yards.
And when you look at it completely, they can't run the ball.
They're not going to be able to play action and get the ball down the field.
46 yards passing for Gainesville, the penalty six penalties, 61 yards.
But the conspiracy 18 first downs versus eight is just an incredible difference between the two teams.
And I think Coach Thompson hit the nail on the head.
They got to have more success on first down.
Yeah, only, 33 yards rushing for a team that averages 177 a game.
And he averages 94 yards rushing per game.
And he just simply has not been able to get going.
He has seven carries for three total yards.
Yeah it's part of that.
Is this Gainesville defense.
And some of it is just you have to wonder whether his ankle really is bothering him.
Not really been moving around in the pocket either.
But they're going to have to try to keep pace and try to make some opportunities some explosives, as Coach Thompson said for the offense.
Meantime, the stars for Gainesville, Kyree Hughley, 15 of 25, passing for 160 and a couple of touchdowns.
And very surprised with Gainesville.
They haven't been running the ball.
I expect that's what they're going to do more in the second half, but Healy doing a great job, especially getting the ball to Porterfield, Morris and those have been his main two targets.
Yeah, Porterfield actually has six catches for 63.
I think I said seven.
But a big first half for Porterfield.
Morrison four catches for 47.
Both of those guys with touchdown passes receptions that we just showed you in the highlights.
Can this offensive line of Gainesville start taking control and get the run game take some pressure off of you having to pass and can Roswell have better success on first down as they start the second half with the ball?
So Roswell is going to get the ball first.
Let's see if they can do anything with it here.
And they need to get going in a hurry.
They're down 17 points.
So that's three possessions really that you need.
Unless you get something in the special teams or defense.
And the third quarter kickoff is brought to you by Heads Up Georgia Park your phone while driving.
It saves lives.
And that's going to be over in the corner.
It's going to kick out of bounds.
So that's a break for Roswell as they can elect to bring the ball out to the 35 yard line, which is what I'm guessing they will do.
This offense illegal procedure ball will be placed at the 35 yard line.
And where do you go, Matt?
What do you do in this second half?
First downs are so important just to keep your defense off the field.
Gainesville uh, they're turning some yardage and some plays out there with this Roswell team has to start fast.
Find something in the run game to try to set up the pass.
Seven of 21 passing for 46 yards and an interception in that first half.
Jonathan Thompson, you see him out there on the field at the 25 yard line.
He wants to talk to the officials here.
Is he going to want him to kick it over.
He has that option.
He's trying to pick a hash mark of where he wants the ball put.
So the ball's at the 35.
You can see it's sitting over there on the far hash mark.
And that's where Roswell is going to go on offense trying to get something going here.
Their biggest rusher of the night is Tyler Presnell.
Two carries for 25 yards.
And that came on a fake punt.
That's that's been the biggest play in their run game so far tonight.
Sean Smith the tight end in motion motioning behind the line.
Schlittler going to run it to the far side.
And he's going to get maybe two maybe three on the play.
Another helmet came.
Off.
That's probably been the biggest theme in this game.
Helmets coming off right there.
You can see Matt Sletty.
And this offense is going to try to get the run game going a better and smoother, faster operation getting the plays in and out as well.
I just remember back in the day, I mean our helmets didn't come off.
We had chinstraps and you buckled them on and if you didn't buckle them, the coach yelled at you and you came off the.
Field.
You're trying to go with the quick snap.
Looks like they.
Once again went without the play clock.
Shuffling in and out.
And this is that stagnant offense that happened in the first half, where it takes a lot of time to get the play in and called.
Hice Kalshi behind the line in motion gets to the far side.
Hughley looking for him, looking this way instead.
Or pardon me, that's obviously looking this way and throwing incomplete.
Trying to go to Magnuson.
And it's broken up by Darren Williams.
How about the first half that Darren Williams had four total tackles, a quarterback sack two t f l two pass breakups.
Yeah.
True senior leadership.
Aaron Williams in that first half, the three star right there.
Jeremiah Proctor breaking.
And just in that body frame you just know that's going to find itself.
It's not going to be a safety at the next level.
You look at his size and his speed.
He's going to be in the box.
He's 65, 211.
But Santavy says he could play safety.
He thinks that's a big safety.
That's a tall safety.
He is rated the number 17 linebacker.
Encroachment on the defense.
Five yard penalty.
Third down.
That'll make things a little more tenable here for Roswell on this third down.
He's rated proctor the number 17 linebacker in the class of 2027.
Yet he plays safety.
And when you're that tall just in the secondary it's just hard to get out of the break.
So you put him up there at the wheel backer, which uh, will backers and linebackers period now at the next level have to be able to cover, uh, the way that offenses run the spread.
Siletti will pick up the first down across midfield and down to the 46.
So just got more yardage on that Run right there than he had the entire first half combined.
The biggest run of the night for Roswell right there.
Counter action.
Getting behind his blocks.
Falling forward.
Big body 220 pounds.
Eslick.
Johnson again to the far side and gets maybe three or four on the play.
The comparison, of course, to Weston Bryant, who is bigger.
Weston's more like 250.
He's probably about 20 pounds lighter but a very similar style to Weston Bryant, the star quarterback at Lee County.
When Coach Thompson was there as the OC.
He's now at Georgia Southern.
But a lot of comparables with Eddie and Brian and what they do and how they play the game.
And of course, the guy that coached him in high school, same guy.
Empty backfield.
In this situation usually runs.
He does again, takes on the defender and pulls his way forward to the 37 yard line.
You get the feeling, Wayne, that if they're going to get back in the game, this is exactly what they have.
To do.
Yeah they have to slow down the tempo.
Just run the ball.
Get behind the big offensive line.
That time.
Westerfield James over there on that left side.
Third straight run for Sletty.
And he's going to get the first down.
Flag out.
So check the penalty call.
Does it wipe out the first down.
Keller you got another helmet player having to leave Aaron Evans.
He's the fullback.
I didn't know they still invented those.
Their specialty item.
You can't order that off the rack.
Right on the offense.
Player helmet came off.
He continued to participate.
So you see Jonathan Thompson again.
He's out there on the field at the 37 yard line.
And right there the penalty.
Aaron Evans continued to play when his helmet came off.
Once your helmet comes off, you have to stop.
It's a safety issue and rightfully so.
You can't be trying to get in the mix.
And you know, guys, they're still feeling and sometimes it's free like, okay, I'm going to run over there and make the play.
Next thing you know, someone hits you with a helmet.
Penalty.
But man, I definitely have never seen this many helmets come off me either.
And the game.
Either the helmets are too loose or their hair's too big.
They can't get their helmet over their hair.
Definitely got some kind of an issue going on here.
Both sides.
It's not one side or the other.
It's both teams.
So now it's third down after the big mark off.
Third and 17 ball back at the 48.
It's wiped out all that hard work that he's done the last three runs.
Right there.
Aaron Evans tried to go back into the game and the referee sent him back out.
You have to wait a play.
Once your helmet comes off.
They bring Leon Latifi in the ball game to play the fullback.
H back position.
Kalshi in motion coming to the near side.
Schlittler had the pass batted back down in his face.
How about the defense right there by Gainesville.
Nice job by Jason Johnson.
Young sophomore Max big deal at the linebacker position six feet 175.
Pressure right there.
A little late dog got his hand up knocking the ball down.
Yeah.
How about Jason Johnson the six foot 175 sophomore.
He's playing the will backer position.
That position was manned by the five star Xavier Griffin last year.
That's what you call big shoes to fill.
Those dependable sophomores that Coach Bryant is definitely confident can perform and perform at a high level.
So Preston Glenn on the punt.
He's standing back at his 34.
Roswell goes in reverse after getting some positive yards, and Preston Glenn gets it out of there.
It's going to be caught at the 15 and a short return, and Gainesville will put the ball in play around the 25 yard line.
Tonight's memory moment is brought to you by Georgia memory net.
Your partner in memory care.
Winless in six previous state title appearances, Gainesville was determined to make history in the 2012 final.
Third and five.
Rolling on the right is McKinnon Watson, and he finds Caleb Heyman for the touchdown.
Touchdown.
Gainesville making second and six.
Johnson.
And that's a loose football.
And that is retrieved.
And that's going to be a touchdown in the person of Fred Payne.
Touchdown.
Gainesville Gainesville built a four touchdown first half lead before cementing the victory early in the fourth quarter.
No field goal attempt.
Gil they're going for this and lofting it long.
And that's Heyman.
And he's in for the touchdown.
Red elephants defeat Ware County 49 13.
The state championship trophy finally heads to Gainesville.
We have waited so long and we've got it.
And we're bringing it home tonight.

Gainesville leading Roswell 20-3 Let's check in with John Nelson.
Spending time down here on the Roswell sideline and head coach Jonathan Thompson and his assistants are pretty hot right now.
Before the punt, Coach Thompson was in the ear of the side judge discussing all of these penalties and all these helmets, leaving heads.
Basically, it goes to the side judge.
He goes, helmets just don't pop off.
And one of the other coaches was wondering why a penalty was called on Roswell, because it wasn't their act that caused the helmet to go off.
And in the interest of equal time, I'm now going to go to the Gainesville sideline and see if they feel the same thing.
Yeah, I think that's a good point.
Helmets don't just pop off and this pops off.
Look at Hughley.
He might go, there he goes.
There's your four star number five dual threat quarterback in the country.
Kyree Hughley.
Long touchdown run to make it 26-3 Great play action fake on the RPO game by Hughley.
Defense taking the running back.
Watch all the black jerseys converge on the running back.
And then just space and speed by this young man.
We told you the kind of athlete he is.
He shows you the speed right here untouched to the end zone for the big touchdown to start the second half.
Wow.
Hughley pops a big run 26-3 Gainesville in total command here P a t is good.
27-3 We saw Hughley do this in the state championship game when they were getting beat by Thomas County Central.
And here he flashes his brilliant speed.
Great job legend Wilmont out on the edge blocking Christian English.
Did not recognize that Hughley had the ball until he had passed him on the corner.
But what a great run right there and you can see the speed.
No one on defense was making an inch on him, trying to chase him.
A 77 yard touchdown run.
One play.
And that's your scoring drive.
That's as efficient as it gets.
And it's presented by D, B, H, D, D and the new red ribbon.
365 curriculum.
Wow.
Third touchdown that Hughley has accounted for tonight.
Two touchdown passes and a highlight reel run.
And Roswell is now in a heap of trouble.
So Alfaro, who had the 42 yard field goal to end the first half, will kick off Khanna Gooch this into the middle of the field.
It's going to be caught at the 30.
Return by Jackson.
They haven't really been able to get him the ball tonight.
He has one catch for 11 yards.
Gets the return right there.
And so Roswell goes back on offense desperately looking for the right gear to put this thing in.
They just have not been able to get their offense going at all tonight.
Just 102 yards of offense, ten less first downs than Gainesville and where it counts the most.
Trailing by 24.
And looking.
Still looking for that explosive that Coach Thompson talked about as the offensive coordinator.
Where can you find that in this offense to try to even inch back into this game?
Holbert on the carry.
Six or two on the play up to the 38.
From the 36 to the 38.
And is it time to just start trying to get play with a little pace?
Not necessarily a two minute mode, but more of the play is in and out.
Get something going, some energy.
Yeah, there's only 20 minutes of game time left in this contest.
To the air fires.
Kalshi makes the catch.
That'll be a first down.
No a little bit short at the 40 for two yard short.
Really like the way that Marcus Sims closes on the ball.
Playing back there with some brand names.
And Ingram and goalie Sims does a great job making tackles.
I think is short of the first down.
It's going to be a yard short.
Brings up fourth and one.
Looked like he could have gotten there.
I don't know whether someone tripped him or he just tripped himself.
Nice job there.
DeMarcus Simmons, the young junior in getting in his legs and getting him down.
And a big gamble here.
Roswell.
Szlachty gets the first down.
I mean that is huge because if you don't get that first down right there give them the ball on a short field.
They score game over.
And that actually tells you where you are in this game.
With 7-29 still in the third that you got to start going for it on your side of the field.
Yeah, man down for Gainesville with 729 to play here in the third quarter.
Looks like that might.
That's Corey Hunt the cornerback.
And we'll step aside as they tend to him.
Gainesville in command here in Roswell.

No need to be afraid of bugs.
First and ten Roswell on 47 yard line.
Pass thrown.
Incomplete.
Receiver never turned around.
Holbrook.
The running back was the intended target.
Big pressure there by Russell.
Just no time to set that play up.
Instant pressure by the senior tackle there.
Russell 6′2″, 218.
Matthew Slade doing all he can here in this second half to try to get his team back in it.
Corey Hunt by the way was helped off the field.
He had a cramp.
So it's not or does not appear to be serious.
Schlittler in the pocket fires too far for Magnuson.
Third down.
Nice job there.
Jason Johnson, the sophomore linebacker kind of undercutting that route.
Just couldn't fit that ball in there.
We talked about earlier this secondary just tough to continue to have to throw against.
Third down and ten.
Rush coming off the edge.
Thrown behind Kelce.
Fourth down.
Just not on the same page.
There.
And and Kalshi.
We've seen that a couple of times tonight.
The frustration of the body language there.
Sweaty tight coverage again by Marcus Sims.
Just nowhere to go with that ball.
Not on the same page.
Man.
It's been a while since we've seen an offensive this out of sync.
Other than the one long run, the sled he had not a lot going on offensively for this team tonight.
Now takes a big bounce for Roswell.
Going to be down at the one.
Good coverage.
That was the snapper getting downfield to down that ball.
So a nice play by the Roswell punt coverage team.
And Cole Dalton the freshman going to take that ball down back to the sideline.
With him.
I don't think you get to put that in a trophy case.
Young freshman trying to bounce back after that low snap early in the game.
But here is an opportunity.
If you're Roswell got this Gainesville team on inside the 1 yard line.
You got to force a turnover here and recover a fumble.
Maybe recover a fumble in the end zone.
You got to make it happen right here for your team.
Yeah no doubt.
So this is an opportunity for Roswell after that great punt by Presnell and who moved.
Flag on the field.
False start offense.
Half the distance to the goal.
First down.
That was Dawson Gray the tight end.
But half the distance is like an inch to where the ball is right now.
Just nudge it.
A little bit.
Okay.
There you go.
That's the penalty.
Okay, there we go again.
Is this on Gainesville or Roswell?
Make the contact first.
False start offense.
Half the distance to the goal.
Still first down.
And at some point you won't be able to move the ball back.
It'll just be right there.
I was getting ready to.
I was getting ready to call down to Nelly and tell.
Get him to give us an exact measurement of exactly how much is half the distance right here.
It looks like it's maybe an inch.
And this is the new age offensive system where the quarterback is in on the inch line and it's in the shotgun.
Just tough.
The ball going back in that situation.
Ugly does punch it out of the end zone to avoid a safety and gets them a little breathing room.
Of course he had a 77 yard touchdown run on the last series.
I don't know that it's put the game out of reach, but it's made it very difficult for Roswell to have a chance and come back and win.
This game.
And that's why this set of downs is so important for this defense to try to get a three and out and get this ball back for your offense.
Going to hand off in the end zone, they're going to get the safety.
Interesting that they went to that play call instead of just let QB hold on to the ball.
Roswell gets the safety.
It's 27-5 Just what this team needed after a great punt a couple of penalties.
Ball is on the inch line.
Good penetration, a slow developing play right there on the read option.
Not sure why we're read option in that situation either.
You're going to hand it off or Hughley's going to run the ball.
I think it was 15.
Jake Smith, the linebacker who got the penetration made the tackle in the end zone for the safety.
And so now Roswell is also going to get the ball back on a Gainesville free kick.
So maybe this is the break that they were looking for wasn't a touchdown.
But it's two and better field position for sure.
And I agree with you just like I said.
I mean why are you handing off the ball in the end zone instead of just letting you try to punch it out another yard or two?
Yeah, that kind.
Of questionable play.
Call is definitely something in midfield right there.
Taking a long time to penetration and Roswell stepping up.
Great job.
Defense right there.
Able to get the safety and get your team the ball back.
So they're going to kick off.
Instead of punt.
You have the option of kicking off or punting.
In this situation.
And so Roswell should be able to get some pretty good field position out of this English oh ball out is pinballing around who got on top of that?
That was a mean hit.
And Roswell does get on top of that.
That was a big hit.
No, Gainesville's got they initially signaled Roswell.
Now they changed their mind and say it's Gainesville's ball.
Physicality right here.
Austin white jersey right there.
Come in Procter that is Jeremiah Proctor out on special teams covering the 65 bending and delivering the monster hit right there.
Great job.
And that's the one thing I have noticed about this Gainesville coverage team.
They have a lot of starters on their coverage teams out there.
And proctor with the big hit giving his team the ball back.
So Gainesville takes over at the 39 yard line.
Encroachment.
Aiden Taylor.
Encroachment.
On the defense.
Five yard penalty.
First down.
Nice job.
Once again going with the hard count.
Catching the young sophomore.
Little antsy out there on the edge.
First and five.
Huguely going to sling it out to the far side and a flag drops on the play after the pass completion.
Going to parrot.
Flag on the play in that area of holding and those are just the penalties you don't want right here.
If you.
Gainesville.
You want to just put a drive together, punch it in, get some points on the board, take the momentum back.
Yeah.
I mean, as hard as it is to believe.
I mean if they score a touchdown here, they're faced with.
Holding on the offense.
Ten yard penalty still.
First down.
Yeah.
If they score a touchdown we got a man down.
You can hear him yelling oh my goodness.
Is this just a cramp.
Hopefully.
One of those big offensive linemen defensive linemen pardon me.
Down on his back being tended to.
Yeah.
But it was going to say is if Gainesville scores here they're faced with the decision.
Do you go for two and try to make this a 30 point game.
Get a running clock going into the fourth quarter.
Hard to believe that we are at that stage, but that is a potential development here.
Now that they have the ball.
On the plus side of the 50.
And the high school level, coach Bryant, you have to try that.
You have to have a running clock.
If you can be up 30 points with a running clock, you have to try that to go for two.
You basically in the game.
So.
Has been a warm day here today.
Started off cool in the morning, but by the time we got around the kickoff, it was still about 80 degrees.
So we've seen a couple of guys here cramp up late in this game.
Yeah, the trainers are treating it like it's a cramp.
Now the player I have not been able to identify that player, but the player was reacting as if it was something worse than a cramp because he seemed like he was in a lot of pain.
You see, John Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, their head coach, is out there.
Typically.
I don't know that a coach would be out there for a cramp.
So we'll step aside as they continue to tend to the injured player.
Georgia every day at Georgia Heart Institute, we're making breakthroughs, pioneering treatments and leading clinical trials so we can offer options to many patients who've been told they have none.
Second opinions creating second chances because Georgia's hearts are always on our minds.
Georgia, on my mind.
Georgia Heart Institute.
I've been checking food labels for years.
I like to buy local and I like to buy healthy for my family.
So I started checking the labels on our clothes too.
Did you know synthetic fibers like polyester are pretty much made of oil?
No thanks.
I look for cotton now, which grows right here in Georgia, a major source of the world's cotton.
Cotton is natural, renewable, sustainable, and buying cotton supports Georgia farmers.
Good enough for me and my family.
The injury.
Was to the freshman defensive lineman Cole Larson.
He was able to hop off the field under his own power, but he seemed like he was in some pain, so hopefully he's going to be okay.
Did appear to be nothing more than a cramp, and hopefully that is the case.
So following the injury time out, it is first and 15 with the ball at the 44.
Showing pressure backers up here for Roswell expecting the run once again going with the hard count is Hughley.
Just want a clean operation.
Get positive yards here on this.
First down.
If you're Gainesville.
Up top far side incomplete.
Wilcox was the intended target Trent Wilcox and it's going to be fourth or third down.
Second down.
It's going to be second down.
I'll just keep going through the downs until I got to get the right one.
It's going to be.
Second and nice coverage there by McAllister.
The free safety on Wilcox.
Just no space right there to deliver that ball.
Trying to go for the big one on one matchup was Hughley.
Second down and 15 under 6 minutes to play here in the third quarter.
Slings it out here complete to Morrison.
Morrison sidesteps a man.
Wilmot threw him a block and he gets down to the 33.
Doyle Morrison with his fifth catch of the game.
Nice throw and catch.
Little receiver screen out on the edge.
Good block there by Wilmont.
Getting half getting 10 yards of that back.
Setting up this third and short dangerous situation here with Hughley.
And the way he can run the ball.
Roswell paying a lot of bodies in the box.
Third down and four.
Handoff goes to Samson.
Samson gets hit in the hole by the linebacker Kylan Fletcher.
Now it's going to be fourth down.
You imagine the offense is going to stay on the field in that no man's land area too far for a field goal.
The way your defense has been playing.
Just can't see Hughley not handling the ball here.
Creating something outside.
Try to hit Porterfield.
His big target his main target here tonight.
Samson the freshman running back, flanked next to him to the left.
That's Morrison in motion.
Hughley rolls in that direction going to pump fake and get the first down.
A flag does come out.
Might be coming back.
Hughley picked up the first down at the 19.
Might have a hold him out behind him.
They're going to get Marshawn Samson there holding the line.
Free safety in fouls.
Fouls.
Tried to come out and run.
Hughley down.
Samson the lead blocker pulled him to the ground.
The penalties on both teams holding on the defense holding on the offense.
Those penalties offset will replay down.
That's actually a big break for Gainesville because they would have been facing fourth and like 14.
And now it's just going to be fourth and four again.
You imagine a similar play will be here for Hughley, something where he's moving so he can threaten the defense with his ability to run the ball with the trip set up top, trying to spread, get those backers out of the box.
Now it just becomes a head count based on whether he's going to pull the ball or throw the ball.
Defense creeping up.
Here comes a blitz.
Hughley up top holding out there.
No flag is dropped.
Did they drop a flag?
They finally did.
Yeah.
It looked like they was holding on Morrison.
The wide receiver was being held as he was trying to get free from the defender.
Yeah.
Christian English right there.
A little handsy.
Morrison the junior just trying to air it up.
Give his receiver a chance.
Holding on the.
Defense ten yard penalty that results in a first down.
And you can see that left hand of English continually to pull on Morrison.
So that is going to be a first down for Gainesville.
Four 0-4 to play in the quarter.
It's going to give them the ball at the 23.
Hey, where are we at?
This is a big drive.
As we mentioned, the ability of Gainesville.
If they can punch this in and get a two point conversion to really put this out of.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Yeah.
I don't know that anybody's ever come back to win a game after being in a running clock as the team that was down, it's almost impossible to do.
It's almost impossible to do, even with a standard clock, much less a running clock.
So first and ten ball at the 23 for Gainesville.
Jet sweep.
Knocked out of bounds by Pressnell, but a nice run on the play for Gainesville and Connor Hall.
Nice pick up here.
Just a little jet sweep.
Toss in front.
Guess what the toss action that comes a pass.
Yeah it.
Is a pass.
In a situation like that.
But a big hit there by Pressnell.
And that will go in the books as a pass.
So second down.
To this side.
Tipped up into the air flag out penalties coming up on Roswell.
They're going to get the defensive back.
The cornerback Nick Daniels for holding.
Right there one on one.
Let's see.
Coach Thompson not happy with the call.
Trent Wilcox able to once again draw pass interference on the play.
The ball was tipped.
So they wave off the flag.
You heard the explanation there.
And Adams no flag because the ball was tipped.
Didn't see who tipped it.
It looked like kind of a secondary back.
Maybe one of the linebackers, not one of the defensive linemen who got their hands on that ball.
So third down.
Very shocked that Gainesville with this line hasn't run the ball up front right here.
Great time to get the run game going in these situations.
I mean they got the lead.
They got the clock on their side.
You would think they'd just be mashing right now.
Third down hugely.
Hughley first down.
Hughley touchdown.
Second touchdown of the night for Kyrie Hughley.
And it is 33-5 And let's see if they go for two.
Wow.
Hughley has accounted for four touchdowns.
All four of their touchdowns tonight two rushing two passing.
Great blocking up front.
Great call here.
Just following the block.
The waves right there.
Great job by Carter Mathis just wiping the black jerseys down.
And very surprised they're not going for two in this situation.
Yeah I mean it's.
Interesting.
They're going for the single point.
And if you have a chance to shorten the game get get your guys off the field.
Get the dub and get out of here.
You know, it seems like that's the thing to do.
But they're going to go for the single point here and make it 34-5 I mean very little resistance here from the Roswell defense.
On the run by Hugh.
Great job of pressing the hole there by Hughley.
Getting away from that backside rush.
As you can see Aiden Taylor up field but pressing the hole getting the defense to buy on that left side and then cutting it back with his speed for the touchdown.
So Gainesville, whether they, you know, get to the 30 points or not, they are in command in this game 29 point lead with 15 plus minutes left on the game clock.
It's been an excellent night here.
A little slow early for Hughley.
But you can see when we talk about one of the top dual threats in the in the country that size and that ability, that speed.
Still developing as a passer.
But you can see why he's so highly rated.
Again headed to Clemson and he's been committed to the Clemson Tigers since early in his junior year.
So he's been pretty solid on that commitment for a long time.
Right there.
Talking to Coach Taylor first round pick out of Florida.
Went to the Vikings back in the day.
That's the kind of staff they have for Gainesville.
Very experienced, a lot of great coaches.
Roswell on the return and Roswell's got Justin Houston coaching their edge guys.
So I mean it's crazy.
Right?
I kind of experience that you can tap into.
Back in my day all you had was the geometry teacher to be able to ask about an angle.
Isosceles triangle.
Here.
Yeah.
You use the I don't even know what that means, but you know.
Yeah, you use that angle to get to the quarterback and you're like, what?
Yeah.
True experience that you have to instantly listen to you now on these high school staffs.
You got NFL guys giving the advice.
Pass dropped Sean Smith I mean, things just getting bad to worse here for Roswell.
I mean they're kind of feeling the scoreboard right now.
And it's reflected it reflected in their performance.
Yeah it's tough sledding tonight especially offensively.
Just no energy no big play to really feed off of.
When they did get a little momentum they get a penalty or a batted ball that takes them out.
Well this is certainly going to be a win that helps Gainesville in the PSR.
Like I said, we've got them number four in our GPB rankings.
I think we probably got them ranked higher than almost anybody in the state.
But I mean, I, I have felt I mean, this is a talented team.
They've played a tough schedule.
This will be Wynn number four in a row since they lost to Buford in East St.
Louis.
Two tough games on the road.
They were in the game against Buford in the third quarter.
And then they go on the road to East St.
Louis, make a road trip, and they have a chance to win that game, too.
But don't pass.
Thrown to Smith.
Complete.
So Gainesville tonight kind of showing me what I thought they had.
They had not really put it on full display, but they're putting it on display here tonight.
And doing it with a bunch of young players that are growing up real fast and talked about if they can get those two star backs, two running backs back, how dangerous it makes the offense.
You know, the PSR, they're currently 20 in the PSR, which is absurd.
This is a team better than 20th in 6-A.
And you know but I bring that up because there seems to be a lot of emotion coming out about that ranking.
Now, a lot of the coaches, now that we're halfway through the season, are not necessarily seeing, you know, their numbers being what they feel like their team is reflected in the rankings.
So starting to hear some frustration from coaches about that.
It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Nothing's going to change this year.
This is the system for this year.
Quarterback sack.
And that is the big defensive tackle who got to him.
Number 51 a Darian Swanigan.
Was it DeMarcus Simmons.
It was 51 okay 51.
I thought it was 52.
So it was big.
DeMarcus Simmons with the quarterback sack.
That's number five for him this season.
The leading sacker.
Right there coming underneath the tackle.
Great pressure.
Good job getting down.
So second down and long after the sack by Simmons.
False start offense.
Five yard penalty.
Second down.
I mean I don't I don't want to sound too harsh.
But the body language from this Roswell team they don't even look like they want to be here.
Right now.
They're in that that mold kind of like they just want to get this over mistakes all around.
Drop balls, penalties.
It's just been a tough night for a team that had been executing and playing well.
Yeah, they were 4-1 coming in pass complete to Causey.
He gets leveled at the 39 by proctor.
One thing I love about this secondary of Gainesville, they're great tacklers.
You may catch the ball, but that's it.
There's not a lot of.
After the catch yardage.
Yeah this might be the best secondary we've seen so far this season in the air.
That's up for grabs and should have been picked for the two Gainesville players were fighting for the pick right there.
Upset that they didn't get it.
Goali thought he was going to get picked number two and then cause he's hurt on the play.
Glass gain and goal both going up for the interception.
It looks like oh my goodness.
This is on his left ankle right.
Yeah.
This is more than a cramp.
Right here just trying to lead.
And as he.
Comes down on top of it.
I think he landed full weight on his own ankle right there.
Tough break for this young man.
The senior.
Three touchdowns last week.
Yeah against Lanier Lanier.
I mean they had a running clock victory on the road against Lanier last week.
And uh Roswell had come in with a three game winning streak after starting the season 1-1 They beat Walton in the Corky Kell Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Got beat.
Big score by Newton.
That's ranked number three in seven A. The game was the score was not really indicative of how close that game was.
And then they've won three in a row until tonight.
So fourth down Preston on the punt standing at his 26.
They get Kalshi off the field.
Boom.
Get back.
Out here Preston.
Wobbly kick going to be caught at the 26 and returnable ball comes out at the end of the play.
And I think uh Parrott was able to get back on top of it.
And he he was.
He bounced right back to his hands as he was on the ground.
Yeah.
That kind of night for Gainesville.
He's coming up.
Limping just a little bit gingerly, not trying to stay off of that right ankle.
When you nearly fumble the ball on the punt return, you're more apt to be injured.
Right, coach?
It was.
I it was it was my ankle.
I lost concentration because I hurt my ankle.
So anyway, Gainesville back on offense 104 to play here in the quarter.
Let's see how aggressive they may be here with 104 to try to push this score.
Maybe uh get some points here.
Yeah.
I mean you know it seems like it would be bad sportsmanship, but it's just smart play the way the running clock rule is in effect.
If you can get the lead to 30 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Uh, PJ Lewis is now in the game.
He's going to get the handoff.
Nope.
They're going to throw it instead.
Short gain out there on the edge.
That was Porterfield with another catch.
That is number seven for him tonight.
Even with the big score very interesting how they've kind of stayed away from the run game when they have chosen to run.
It's been hugely but not.
Not the.
Running backs you have three linemen up front that are over 300 pounds and highly rated, and just kind of stayed away from the run game here in this second half.
Second down and seven.
Roswell showing some edge some pressure off the edge.
And here it comes.
Lewis gets dropped.
Short gain.
Jake Smith.
Kharg Island Fletcher in on that tackle.
So is Jackson Holley.
And that is the end of the third quarter.
End to the fourth here.
In Roswell.
It's been all Gainesville tonight 34-5 As we head to the final period.

Here, big 29 point lead for Gainesville, Matt Stewart Wayne Gandy and Jon Nelson with you at Romanus Stadium in Roswell.
Hugli.
Nice ball delivered downfield to Brown.
Touchdown saving tackle at the 30 yard line by Foust.
Great protection up front.
Good job of leaking out there.
A little seam route by Jordan Brown.
Getting behind the safeties.
And a nice ball there by Hughley.
Dropping it in the bucket for his running back.
Quite a night for ugly.
He's up over 200 yards.
Passing over 100 yards rushing.
So he's got a chance to get that towel and hat from John Nelson.
The Georgia Cotton Commission towel and hat from John Nelson.
So first and ten ball at the 31 again to the air.
And that's Connor Hall with the catch.
Gets inside the 30 down to the 28.
Read limits on that tackle for the Hornets.
You have to feel like Gainesville punches this in.
Put points on the board.
It's probably the last drive we'll see.
Hughley yeah you would think.
This kind of point spread.
Yeah.
Gainesville plays at Johns Creek next Friday night.
Their next home game on Friday, October 16th when they host Riverwood.
Connor Hall with the catch gets back to the line of scrimmage.
No more than that.
Here's a look at that Gainesville schedule.
The big one on their remaining.
The really big one on their remaining is the Middleton game on October 23rd.
That could potentially be for the region championship.
Still, using the short passing game, the quick screens out on the edge.
Not really running the ball with the backs.
Ugly in the pocket.
Fires a laser downfield and it is caught.
Nice catch at the ten yard line by AJ Watson.
That was a laser from Hughley.
Oh they're going to call that incomplete.
Must have hit the ground because from my angle it looked like he caught it.
Pressure off the edge by Holly.
Just a beautiful ball.
Yeah.
And the ball right there right at the end.
Foul's in Foul's able to rip the ball out.
Another angle of it right here.
But as this game has gone on Wayne I've been impressed with the accuracy of ugly.
And I mean he's getting that ball downfield you know pretty far.
Looks like very little effort on his part.
Got a nice delivery.
Still developing as a passer right down as you see.
Has 316 total yards of offense tonight 209 in the air and 107 has accounted for all four touchdowns for Gainesville.
Going to step up and fire and off the hands of his receiver.
Porterfield should have had a catch there in traffic at the 12.
And the ball is going to go over on downs.
Roswell's going to get it back with ten plus minutes to play.

Score kind of tells it all.
345 Gainesville leading Roswell by 29.
As the Hornets go back on offense.
353 total yards for Gainesville, 128 for Roswell.
Yeah, it's complete dominance by this Gainesville defense.
Just nowhere.
Not letting Sletty make any plays, running the ball or really passing the ball.
22 first downs.
That's the 12th first down for Roswell.
Holbert breaks out, gets caught at the 20 down to the ten.
Flag.
Comes out.
Might have a face mask and Holbert with a big run down to the ten yard.
Line.
Oh I think we just get an.
I think we got two penalties here.
I think Holbert's going to get flagged for unsportsmanlike.
Great blocking up front.
The speed right here of Holbert.
The senior right there.
Yeah that's.
Not really sure.
That was not face mask on on the Gainesville player.
And then right here Holbert just continued to jabber with the Gainesville player.
During the play personal foul face mask defense after the play.
Unsportsmanlike on the offense.
B first down yeah.
Well they missed that because that was not a face mask.
The defender grabbed the shoulder pads across the body.
I could see how the official might miss that.
And they did.
And then you had the unsportsmanlike for Holbert because he was uh carrying on probably an unpleasant conversation with the defender.
I love how they walked off both penalties to bring the ball back to the spot right here.
But what a finally, a big play for the Hornets.
Kind of like taking off your shoes to count right.
Oh offense.
Finally showing some life right there with that big run.
Encroachment on the defense.
Five yard penalty.
First down.
DeMarcus Simmons the team leading sacker right there trying to get off the ball getting the edge giving a free five.
Having to take a play off after the penalty.
Roswell just want to execute your offense.
Try to get some good feeling running the ball once again with Hobart.
Yep.
Fake the pass by.
He was able to slip it in there to Holbert.
Brings up.
Second down and two.
Quick back to the line.
Holbert gets stuck for the TfL.
Big Taurel Russell gets the TfL leads the team in that category gets another one right there.
Great job right there by Russell.
Sneaking underneath the block almost taking the hand off as Hobart got the ball.
Big time penetration by Russell.
Yeah this Gainesville defense has just been way too much for the Roswell offensive line to handle.
Tonight.
Third down.
Colbert another carry.
Nothing driven back.
Still pushing him back.
This game is real defense.
The thing I love about him is they are still in.
The starters are in there.
They're still engaged.
And you feel like they have that swagger where they're not trying to give up a touchdown here tonight.
You know they're playing with that same intensity.
Might have to ask John Nelson to get into the record book and find out what's the last time Roswell got shut out of the end zone.
Doesn't happen very often to the Hornets.
It's happening here tonight.
So far.
Fourth down Come on, come on.
Time out.
Called by Roswell, and we'll take it while they do.
With a big fourth down coming up.
When we get back.

Fourth down coming up.
Fourth down and six to pick up the first down.
Roswell to this point has been shut out of the end zone tonight.
They have not been held scoreless in a game.
No touchdowns since 2017 against Colquitt County.
Spin move being chased running for his life.
Lobs it up there and nearly intercepted.
And the ball is going to go over on downs.
Great pressure once again there by Russell.
Just not going to let Sletty be able to set up and look around the field.
Great coverage on the back end has it as it's been all night long about his secondary.
And you could just tell the swagger of this defense that they are on a mission at this point, that at least on their watch as the starters, they're not going to let Roswell in the end zone.
What you got, Nelly?
Yeah.
It was.
Week three, September eighth of 2017 when they won three games that entire year they finished up 3-8 I believe.
That got shut out 28 to nothing that night by the Packers, who were ranked number two in the state at the time.
So then all right, Mr.
P SR where do you think Gainesville should be with this win tonight?
Well, I mean, I mean we got him number four in our GPP rankings.
So that's where I definitely think they should be.
Somewhere near the top not near 20.
But I don't know.
I mean the P sr.
I mean but they're going to get a kick out of this.
I mean that's going to be good for them because Roswell 4-1 that's going to give him some points in the P SR.
No doubt about it.
That'll be good for them.
Roswell came in in the P sr.
I think they were number seven.
They're going to drop.
And so if you're ranked top 16 in the P SR that means you get a first round home game.
If you win your region you get ranked in the top 16 regardless of what your number is.
So.
Still a long way to go, but Gainesville is going to be four and two after tonight, and so is Roswell.
But more importantly in the region, Gainesville will be 2-0 and Roswell will be 1-1 Big stop in the backfield by the Roswell defense.
That's Fletcher again stopping Brown.
Two big stops right there by this Roswell defense.
Finally Gainesville deciding they will get the ball to the running back and let him run the ball.
But this game this Roswell defense playing downhill.
Third and forever.
Now here for the Red elephants.
Hugh Lee scrambling being chased and just throws it away.
Threw it at the feet of Porterfield.
That's the other thing that I've been impressed with Hughley tonight.
We've seen since the sophomore year.
We know how good of a quarterback he is, but on those plays where there was nothing, he did not try to force it and make a mistake.
He just got rid of.
It and that's that experience that they are really leaning on with him this year to make the smart play, to not lose the game, to beat a veteran in the voice of this offense.
And he's doing it so far tonight, getting out of traffic, but understanding and having awareness where he is on the field to make the right play.
Jack Kingston punt by Presnell.
Now he never punted the ball.
Knott what did he kick it into the ground?
I kind of lost track of what happened with the ball.
There were so many players around the ball, and so Roswell is going to take over at the five yard line and pardon me, I said Pressnell Presnell would not be punting that.
The Roswell punter.
So.
So the ball goes over.
And I'm not sure that the punter understood that that ball was live.
He did kick it a little bit unfortunate.
Roswell didn't cleanly pick it up was blocked.
Was it kicked kicked blocked or was it just poorly kicked here.
Here's another look at it.
This is Alfaro.
Yeah.
He just kicked it into the ground.
And so that's a live ball right there that Roswell picked up.
And so the Hornets take over at the four yard line.
I lost track of the ball.
And Holbert on the carry leaning trying to get their flag.
Comes out.
Reoccurring theme tonight.
Flag out.
So Roswell trying to finally punch that ball in the end zone.
Illegal formation.
Five men.
In the backfield.
Still first down.
Yeah five in the backfield.
It's been bad.
It's it's been real tough.
And maybe if it was the first game of the season you could see some of these miscues.
It's kind of been played like that.
Yeah it's had that kind of feel by Roswell especially on offense.
And just hoping they can generate some energy to build on have some type of accomplishment in this game.
But right now the whole sideline, you can just tell this has just been a tough night.
Schlittler on the keeper.
He's going to lean down, get close to the five.
And as I said earlier on that last drive, this Gainesville defense, the starters are still out there.
They seem to still be determined that they're no matter what situation.
Sam Davis runs, the.
Defense.
He's the he's.
The head coach and he runs the defense.
So.
They're still going to make Roswell earn every point.
On the keeper.
It's going to bring up fourth down.
Get up, get up, get up.
So not thinking they're going to get into the end zone that way.
So they're going to have to come up with another plan here on this fourth down play.
Because running right into the line hasn't worked.
Late flag probably got some kind of an unsportsmanlike coming up here.
So the fullback I'm told ended up Evans.
Aaron Evans lost his helmet again for at least the second time tonight.
Sojo has dropped the flag.
Not really sure what happened up at the line of scrimmage.
After the play, unsportsmanlike conduct on the defense penalty will be half the distance to the goal.
It'll be third down.
So third down in half the distance.
Roswell still shuffling in personnel.
But you have to imagine that this ball is going to go to Sletty in this situation.
Quarterback, student body right.
So Holbert takes the direct snap and tries to go to the near side.
And he gets driven back.
And that was Marcus Sims who didn't let him get there.
I mean you're right.
I mean they're not.
They are.
They're up 20-9 They do not want to give up the touchdown.
They don't want to give up the touchdown right here.
They're playing these starters typically at this point even your starters have that kind of like let's get it over.
But yeah they're playing like this is a tight ball game.
They're playing with pride right here.
They're finishing the mission here tonight for their coach.
Aaron.
So fourth down they're going to run a reverse to try to find a way to get into the end zone.
That's not going to work either.
The ball's going to go over on downs as Gainesville gets the goal line.
Stand here and preserves their touchdown shutout here tonight.

So ball goes over on downs and.
Let's see.
I think Kyree stays in the ball game at quarterback doesn't he.
Yeah.
He's still in there going to hand it off.
Let's see if they're just going to hand the ball off here from here on out.
No reason not to right.
Should be three runs in a row right there.
And just you know get three first downs in a row and get on the bus and go home.
Right.
I think three first downs is about all you need to finish this game out.
Right?
Tuck management the clock run down and see ugly looking at the play clock.
Thought they might take the starters out at some point.
Coach Bryant sending a message to his team.
This will be win number four in a row and really kind of puts the spotlight on that.
October 23rd game when they host Milton at City Park and Bobby Greenfield.
That's shaping up to be for the region championship.
Now, of course, if Milton wins that game, then the Roswell Milton game does have some significance there at the end of the season, because then Roswell could possibly play themselves back into a tie for the region championship.
But it's hard to think about that right now with the way they played tonight.
What a night Cairene has had for his team.
Yeah, 316 yards of total offense, 209 in the air.
Two touchdown passes 107 on the ground.
Two touchdown runs, including a 77 yard sprint.
That really was the backbreaker when he did that.
You're kind of like, okay, this game's over.
And those three or four plays where he felt the pressure and was able to scramble and get out of the trouble and still make the right decisions, pay big dividends.
But that's that leadership they're looking for for him.
That's why they believe they have a chance to do big things this season.
Well, Sam Tobias Bryant led Grayson to a state championship in 2024.
Will he lead Great Gainesville to a state championship in 2026?
Despite starting the season 0-2 with losses to Buford and East St.
Louis?
This becomes the.
Fourth different top ten opponent that they have played here in their first six games.
It'll be their second top ten win.
Talking to Coach Bryant, you got the feeling that he wants to make Gainesville a national brand.
He's going to keep scheduling those tough games when he can to make sure that his team is trending in the right way.
And that's how Grayson, when he was there, he did that.
Grayson what he did.
Grayson.
Exactly.
Ugly on the run.
Going to add to his totals.
Going to slide down at the 40.
Check the penalty flag.
Holding on the offense.
Ten yard penalty.
Replay.
Third down.
So that will erase the first down run by Hughley.
Even though that play is being pulled back that's that smart decision making that we're seeing out of Hughley right there.
Know where the sticks are.
Pick up the first down.
Get down.
There's no need to try to make the big splash play here.
Just need to get a first down and keep the clock moving.
Unfortunately a penalty out on the edge.
So third down and 15 following the penalty mark off.
I thought he was about to go under center right there.
No, just a trick play.
Just killing.
Time.
And you can eat a sandwich with all the time.
He's got to kill now.
The play clocks at ten.
Going to roll to his right.
Going to throw downfield.
Man open.
And it's caught at the 42 yard line.
Connor Hall sophomore wide receiver.
Part of that tremendous sophomore class that Gainesville has that definitely if you coach Bryant you have to smile about the next couple of years.
Connor Hall making a play right there.
And he's been fed the ball a couple of times 62, 165 sophomore.
I asked him, you know why they're playing so many sophomores.
I said is that out of necessity?
He goes, in some cases, yes.
But in some cases, because they're just good.
, high level, highly talented, especially on the defense had to replace so many people over there that and sometimes that happens when a new coach comes in.
Everybody's up for the job.
Everybody.
There's no loyalty.
He's looking at everybody.
And he felt like the sophomores could produce for him.
Yeah, hit that reset button.
And if you can play you're going to get an opportunity.
Down to 120 left in this game.
Maybe a couple more plays to be run here before Gainesville gets out of here with a victory.
It'll snap their two game losing streak in the series.
Like we said earlier in the evening, the prior two games have been shootout games went down to the last play.
That has not been the case tonight.
Looks like Gainesville is shuffling out starters, at least up front in the offensive line.
Haven't had to call their name tonight, which is a good thing when you don't have to as an offensive lineman.
There's the knee.
That's the icing on the cake.
I think that's the last play we're going to run here tonight.
What an impressive win for Gainesville.
If anybody doubted Gainesville, I really wondered about some of the rankings where I saw them ranked lower than we have them in the GPB rankings.
I'm like, what are you looking at?
Because this is a very good team and they showed it here tonight.
And the one thing I like was when you did drop back, he has an assortment of receivers that he was spreading the ball around to that are growing and maturing, that are juniors and sophomores, that they're comfortable throwing the ball to.
So this will be the final play right here.
Gainesville, 345 winners over Roswell.
Emphatic victory.
Red elephants announcing to everybody in the state that, hey man, we're pretty good now.
4-2 on the season 2-0 in region seven.
6-A Roswell drops to 4-2 and 1-1 in the region going to be very difficult for them.
But there's still a path for Roswell if they can get their act together, they've still got a chance to make a run at the region title.
When you watch this game tonight for the Red elephants and you watch their coach right there, the intensity that they played from beginning to the end and truly to the end, he made these guys pay and play and the defense on a mission to keep this Roswell offense out of the end zone.
And that mission was accomplished here tonight by the defense.
Yeah.
Kyree Hughley 11 for 107 rushing 77 yard touchdown run.
Two total touchdowns on the ground 22 of 37 through the air 245 passing two touchdowns four total touchdowns tonight 352 yards of total offense.
Those are numbers worthy of the number five dual threat quarterback in the country, wouldn't.
You say?
Yes indeed.
Headed to Clemson.
The four star showing you why he's so valuable, why he's trusted to lead this team and wherever they want to go, he's going to take them showing you the complete package here tonight, especially on the speed he showed on that long run.
How about our man, the freak Jeremiah Proctor on the defensive side of the ball had seven solo tackles, pass breakup.
Quarterback.
Hurry.
Darren Williams, who always plays great on GPB, had five solo tackles, quarterback sack, two TfL, two pass breakups and that defense held Roswell out of the end zone.
First team to keep Roswell out of the end zone since Colquitt County in 2017.
Just tough sledding, trying to throw against this secondary.
You saw all the pieces that they have, even the backups, tight coverage, willing to play man to man.
Attack the quarterback with the blitz.
Great defensive effort.
And then Darren Williams, as we talked about, always delivers.
You can always just say his name and he's going to play the senior linebacker headed to Wake Forest.
Two quarterback sacks eight.
TfL interception seven.
Pbu for the Gainesville defense in total tonight.
That's quite a job by those red elephants on the defensive side of the ball.
Yeah.
Just a complete nowhere for a high powered offense.
When you talk about Roswell.
So yeah they were averaging 35 points per game.
And to hold them to five points.
And a lot of times in tough situations Gainesville defense is what really got them out of trouble.
Time now for our Johnny's New York style post game interview.
And Jon Nelson is standing by with the victorious San Bis Bryant.
Thank you very much, Matt.
The first word that comes to mind about tonight is suffocating.
Would that be accurate defensively?
You think?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
That's what we take pride in.
We play defense at Gainesville High School.
So that's what we want to come out here and show.
And part of this also was maintaining the margin.
It's like you still had the first teamers out there late, even though you were still shuttling in.
The sophomores that we've been talking about all week.
You seemed like you wanted to make as much of a statement as the next guy out here tonight.
No, it wasn't that.
Just closing the deal.
You want to.
Yeah.
It wasn't that.
Just didn't want to start giving up points in the game.
Turned into something different than it didn't need to be.
So again, they got the ball in the red zone a couple times, and we just needed to get a stop just so the game wouldn't snowball on us.
So that's why that's why we did that.
And then offensively, obviously you're rolling behind that big offensive line of yours getting a lot of yards out there tonight.
Everybody obviously looked at that 0-2 start.
Where do you think you are right now having turned all that around.
Really good man.
I think everybody looks at the 0-2 start.
We lost the two of the top teams in the country, and we had both of those teams on the ropes.
So again, you can look at the record, but if you were at those games and you watched those games, like those games were very close to us being 2-0 What else do you think you need to work on right now?
Yeah, man, just keep maturing and keep improving.
But didn't like the way we finished that right there.
We could have finished that game a lot better.
Got a little sloppy there at the end.
But that's a part of maturity man.
So we'll get that fixed.
Congratulations on the big win and we'll see you down the road.
Thank you man I appreciate you.
That is the story down here.
Kareem Hughley coming up in just a second.
You know what.
Wayne San Tobias Bryant is 31-years-old.
And I'm always impressed when I walk away from an interview or a game that he has just coached.
Yeah.
He's always just a guy that's focused.
It's about team.
He's trying to push his team, push his players and play at a certain level, play to a standard, and he kind of sets that tempo.
Always a humble spirit, always about football.
Man.
They were impressive tonight.
You heard him say he's he's you know he's making the statement that we've been saying the entire game.
Look we played two of the hardest teams toughest teams in the country.
We could easily be 6-0 right now.
Instead they're 4-2 But they look like a 6-0 team tonight.
Yeah.
Those two teams, they were able to take them deep into the game before they lost those games.
Actually, even against the mighty Buford, they were really, really had them on the ropes.
And I think that's just part of sharpening metal.
You got to play tough teams.
And he's trying to mature these young sophomores and juniors to play a step up and follow their quarterback.
Let's send it down to Jon Nelson with the presentation of our Georgia Cotton Commission Player of the game.
And that is the natural choice for Georgia.
He was taking a break.
He was sitting on the table kind of getting treatment north of 300 yards total offense, which means one thing, natural choice for the hat.
And the natural choice for the towel.
I got to make sure that the logo is looking right.
So we'll turn that around.
Where's my one?
Right here.
I flipped it, silly thing.
There we go.
There it is.
He's wearing a bib.
When you look at we talk about the 0-2 start a lot.
But it was against two of the top ten teams in the country.
You've been making statement after statement after statement after statement against quality competition ever since.
What's it been like for this team to show what you guys are made of?
Um, well, like you said, it started with the 0-2 season.
Um, I think that really molded us.
And, you know, I think we came in a little arrogant to start off the season, you know, knowing what we have as a team and thinking like, hey, we're unbeatable.
And then just going out there and then just giving up on games.
Honestly, I think that's what got us.
And you know, we had to we had to sit down, we had to talk as a team.
Coaches included.
And we got it fixed and just rolling ahead now.
So you had to sit down and had a talk, huh?
Yes, sir.
Yes, sir.
Are you allowed to disclose what happened in that talk?
Um, I mean, we just.
Yes, sir, I can I, I think I can we just, we just talked about like we were in two really.
I mean, we're against two really good teams and we were playing bad offensively and defensively was playing lights out the whole season.
I mean props to them offensively we were just playing bad and you know killing ourselves on drives.
And we were stealing games.
Like we had a five turnover game.
And it just came down to we had no heart and we just had to have a gut check and like look at each other like, hey, like, who wants it more?
Do we really want to win?
Do we want to win state?
Do we want to go all the way?
And I think that really hit home to us.
And we got to turn around and fix.
And then hit home over 48 minutes tonight where it was just dominant with those guys blocking in front of you and everybody else that was getting yards.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Ol kicked butt tonight.
They kicked butt tonight.
Defense played lights out.
They played lights out.
I gave them three points.
Um and the safety uh, defense.
They didn't let up anything.
They played really well.
Played really well today.
Well done tonight.
And as always once again Georgia Cotton Commission natural choice, natural choice.
Once again.
Where's where's my there it is.
There's my logo.
This goes home with him.
Natural choice right here.
Player of the game.
North of 300 yards on the night.
Matt.
Dominating performance by Gainesville across the board.
Absolutely.
Chirine hugely.
The natural talent and the natural choice.
