week eleven of the Georgia public broadcasting high school game of the week you weren't part of the team that but glad to have you with us now but on opening night we saw a new coach at flowery branch they didn't get off to a good start their plan a number one team in the state in our side of Warner robins they lost that game and they lost their second game it's been all appeal since then well the flowery branch falcons seven into the R. seven %HESITATION in their region rolling through region eight of class five A. we got a chance to wrap up the number one seed here tonight this game with the red elephants flowery branch in their history has never won a region championship they're gonna look to change that against the red elephants from Gainesville in there are very strong history they've already been to the final four if you will they've had a tremendous record but yet with all the good things that we shot did he never won a region they'd like to do that tonight on the other hand we've also seen Gainesville this year in Gainesville did what very few people do they wanted to few for high school and PQ third at home nineteen to fifteen final score that match up and that was a sort of a seven game winning streak that was broken last week a forty six forty one wants to Loganville they're actually up twenty one point at the halftime couldn't hold on for the victory so instead of two one BTC got it on being a one loss they're going out of here tonight the winner will take that one seed I guess three can five X. within the first round and it's a little bit interesting in that %HESITATION obviously they both will get a home field advantage in the first game the number one seed would probably get into the second round but the road gets a lot tougher for the number one seed they'll go play potentially Tucker a defending state champion and at the so in some ways the number one might not have the advantage you normally expect not if you get Tucker on the end of that draw heading into the state trials will break down playoff implications all through the night here well the last week of the regular season lots of very good players but my mind one of the we've seen a lot of good quarterbacks this year but we're going to see one of the best junior quarterbacks in this in the country I would certainly in the state Louis back to talk about him and the rest of the fine players on the field that we take this time out the wheel what about Fridays in Georgia on G. me that because I will be back with a good we went to two different contests at all spears top stories had a great season now it's all about football taken it over there to the state championship and recommending supplements to the to the high school athletes the first thing they need to understand is there's no substitute for proper well balanced nutrition proper rest in their training and and technique of perfection some of these athletes want to expand with certain supplements the most common I believe is probably protein shakes a lot of times it's high school football players seen behind us they all want to gain weight not too many high school football players want to lose weight so they want to gain weight they want to build muscle they wanna get bigger for the upcoming season so they so they feel that they take extra protein shakes a couple times a day that'll help them honestly if you have a normal western diet in there adequately taking in the proper amount of protein your body needs through natural food sources taking an extra protein doesn't really matter if their bodies aren't going to store extra protein I tell these high schoolers if they're taking in enough protein to your diet and they still want to go spend sixty Bucks a month on on a protein powder they're making expensive urine I'd rather have them send that spend that money in a more effective way what are some of the hazards of the supplements well some of the hazards it can be it can be life threatening for example something like anabolic steroids which is banned throughout the sports throughout high school college Olympics in professional level and about like steroids are are %HESITATION not as widely used at the used to be in the past but they're still out there being used by the high school athletes are the kids need to realize that they can be very dangerous in terms of affecting the brain the heart the liver the kidneys as well as a sexual organs which is something that the kids do not want I do not want to get involved in not to mention the psychological effects of being addicted to anabolic steroids so anabolic steroids of any kind should always be discouraged %HESITATION in in amongst you know the one that that's common is creatine pre teens a little different in that it's not banned is not banned by the by the %HESITATION the I. O. C. the NC double a or or or high school high school sports it's strongly discourages the kids at the two kids experiment with this be because we're not quite sure of the long term effects we do think that seems to be relatively safe in the short term if used properly %HESITATION it has been shown in some kids actually increase increase our ability to sustain a maximum contraction sustainability to to get a couple more reps in the weight room so can can help prevent hands performance for his high school football players but we're just not quite sure of the long term potential detrimental effects on the liver and the kidneys so because of the lack of long term knowledge it safe we don't recommend that high schoolers %HESITATION get involved in that one as leaders in our communities George is started the season together in in the season together so not absolutely so I don't know if your show is changed but I know better just do what's what's their show that during the season but for those who might not know about tonight's show let's talk about it well we're doing the music of sticks this year and %HESITATION what we're we we don't know really change would just added things until we completed the show and %HESITATION we completed the show about four weeks ago and that means adding everything to visual elements and all those things and have gotten all that take care of and they competed with it %HESITATION you know over the course of the marching season the house festival the competition %HESITATION we did pretty well we got a superior rating all our captions color guard percussion drum major database and storage so we had a fairly successful season is over what happened with our in results this year I know we've talked many times about the fact that I'm in a band and I love the marching band I think it is a vital skill to have know how to play music it read for those parents or students watching out here maybe thinking about joining the banner well I can say this statistically center of all that fine arts programs with his chorus orchestra hard I have a tendency on average the score about a hundred points higher on the SAT scores nationwide there's a lot of statistical evidence data that'll show you that students in these programs will achieve at a higher level success on standardized testing throughout our country so yes it's a vital part of the day overall educational program in any high school or middle school so yeah we're a big proponent of having schools in music in our schools I look forward to with the fire breaks back coming up we have a lot of things going on as we start to close down marches season course went to our concert season we have three concert bands here your professional stumbles we have a winter color guard fall drumline that's our winter drumline we have to steel drum bands are one of our children plans is planned at the church George music educators conference in January so we're really excited about that seven jazz
