Live from the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex, it is the boys single-A basketball state championship at the top, Rick Hancock, Central Bulldogs coming into the game with a record of 29 and to end the fifth ranked Turner County rebels from the town of Ashburn.
Coming into the game with the record of 28 and four.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
This is championship game number two of six on the day.
How big is this game for these two towns in Ashburn?
They told people to wake up the dead and bring them to fill out this building behind me and in the town of Sparta.
The coaching staff is all homegrown.
They know what this one means.
The last time these two teams won titles, JFK and LBJ were president.
The guys calling the game for us downstairs, John Wilkerson and Phil Hanson.
Guys, we'll see you in a second.
Thank you, John.
Thanks for the history lesson.
We got two teams to fill in and I'm really get after it all.
You got to love it.
You know, in a word, I'd say balance, turnovers and tempo.
Each team can create turnovers.
They're going to capitalize off the turnovers and all of it goes back to tempo and pressure.
We're going to see some Division one caliber players out here.
Let's start with Hancock Central and they've got one.
And Cameron Hulsey, you got to love him.
He's got such smooth moves around the basket.
He's got great hands.
And what I really like about him, as big as he is, he handles the ball extremely well.
He's got access.
See Big 12 schools.
Look at him.
He's just a junior.
He can sign early.
Of course, as we take a look at the starting lineup for Hancock Central, the Bulldogs, John Terry, a Stanton, he's a good one to watch as well as Jarvis off.
Jeremy Lawrence, a senior.
James Watkins, a perfect complement to Cameron Hall's both those guys six, seven, six six.
They have an imposing front line and they'll be fun to watch as the game goes on.
Now let's tell you about Turner County, another team that's a lot of fun to watch.
And they got a pretty good score.
And Trey Pitts, he's tremendous.
I say he's the silent assassin of this tournament.
You look at his game and you're saying, okay, he had a good game.
And then you look at the box score and he has a double double every night.
He can score inside, outside a tremendous leaper and finishes extremely well when he takes the ball to the basket.
Now, if you're keeping score today at home, you're going to have a really messy score sheet because Turner County plays ten deep.
definitely.
It's like hotel changes.
When they come in there, they throw it five at you, one wave, and then they come out and they come back with another wave of five.
It gives them tremendous energy and they can really set their defense with the tempo.
They are the A-Team in the B team, or as they say, second team, first team, second team, very similar things.
Smith in North Carolina way back when, and he was very successful with it again.
And what that does is it promotes competition within your club because you want to play and the way you play is play by production and producing.
this will be a day to game for the boys class single-A state championship.
We had a great win in the girls Calvary days, the state champion.
Let's introduce you to the players.
Eddie Ashley does the honors Boys state championship between the Hancock Central Bulldogs and the Turner County Rebels.
May I have your attention for the starting line ups?
First for Hancock Central and Guard number three, a five foot ten senior, John Terry Stanton at guard number ten, a six foot senior.
Jarvis, who at forward number 35, a six foot three senior, Jeremy Lawrence.
At forward number 15, a six foot six senior.
James, can use at center number 55, a six foot eight junior.
Kevin, who's seen coming out of the Guard, and Hancock Central's head coach Anthony way of ball And now for your Turner County rebels at guard number two, a six foot three junior jumbo Burgess at guard number three, a five foot seven senior Marquese Jackson at guard number 23, a six foot three junior, Trey Peer is at forward number 24, a six foot five.
Senior Demetrius Ewing at center number 34, a six foot five senior, Keyshawn Odom and Turner County's head coach Eric Harlan.
All right, buckle up.
We're getting ready for the class signaling Boys state championship.
We're back after this on GPB.

Welcome back to the Macon Cineplex, the Boys series Championship game getting ready to get underway.
But first, let's get a science lesson down the floor from Professor John Nelson.
Classes and sessions.
It's time for chemistry class.
This was the number that we learned where water changes from a boil to steam head coach Eric Holland.
On the backside of every Turner County warm up wants to remind his players it's that one degree of difference that can get you to where you are today.
And it has resulted in this championship game here.
And guys chemistry lessons over final exams were about to begin.
Back to you.
Thank you, John.
I'm much prepared now.
All right.
So Hansen Keyser Keyser, this game number one tempo.
Which team can control the tempo of the game?
Number two, rebounding is a must.
If you don't rebound today, you're going to have a sad, sad day.
Rebounds, equals rings.
Also defensive transition.
You have got to get back on defense and stop the basketball high halfcourt offensive execution.
You've got to be able to run your stuff in numbers in the four and the most important depth, whoever can get to the other team's bench is going to be critical.
Hancock County will control the opening set.
That's John Tobias.
John Terry Stanton, Number three, he's a point guard.
The guard tandem of Stanton and Huff are extremely quick and Lawrence is a great complementary player.
Hancock County showing a little patience to get inside the holes.
He kicks it back out.
The stand passed up on the shot drives and now turns it over.
It's Demetrius Ewing, number 24 for Turner County.
Well, we talked we talked about that earlier.
Turnovers are going to be big blocked inside by Hosey on Keyshawn Otto.
Both he and Watkins make a tremendous twin tower set up for Hancock Central that was locked in on the block.
So this is the goal by Hancock County.
He's the X Factor.
Jeremy Lawrence always makes the right play.
Look for a little high low action.
That's Hall's he trying to make a spin the trade inside can't hit first Turner with Joe Watkins with the rebound and he knocks out of bounds a no go.
We'll stay with the Hancock County Bulldogs.
Hancock Center does a great job of utilizing their bigs, meaning Watkins and Hosey with a high, low situation.
One will be on the block when they'll be on the ball side.
Elbow Hancock, Kent Hancock Center with the ball.
There's palsy with the drive.
So he can't do that.
He does floor it well for his size.
Turner County kind of push up the floor.
There's Pierce can't hit palsy.
It's just a loose ball and he can handle the ball in the open floor when needed.
And he needs to there's holes it's a scuffle to see.
You got to watch that.
He has a tendency to give a little hop step after he drops steps, you catch it, he'll make a pivot and then he does a little cha cha cha before he goes.
Anthony Webb, the head coach of Hancock Hancock Central since fourth year, he's a 1986 graduate of Hancock Central.
He shot up an error ball by Jamal Burgess.
Not a bad shot.
Turner does a count.
He does a great job of running their offensive, their game in their sets.
There's a sharp dressed man right there, Eric Collins, fourth year, the head coach.
He loves to wear those bow ties.
He's been good luck for him in his years at Turner County.
There's Lawrence not there but Watkins with the rebound.
Great rebound let it go straight up and get the ball so 1 to 2 pressed by Turner County that last time down in the luxury that Hancock Central has is they can bring Hosey up to the middle of it off offense against that press where he can bring the ball up Pierce was fouled inside turnover little out of control here is the one that fouled inside that was Watkins so they can bring Hulsey up as a big 6768 kid He can bring the ball down the floor.
It's hard to match up with that with your other center on the defensive end of the floor and with this height and him going to some major schools, he's going to need those ball handling skills to be successful at the next level.
He's definitely in it to put on some weight.
Stanton For three, he gets his feet set just like you saw with Natalie Parish.
He can hit that all day long.
510 senior with the first three points of his day and quickly Hancock Central has a five nothing lead.
Watch the back screen in the lab.
It it that's why Keith Jackson missed the interstate one so Lawrence open blocked the block gets it off it's a foul on Gordon's I have to see that again See I think he was moving underneath that one.
You got to be establish.
And usually you don't get that call unless you get that charge outside the lane.
But I like how aggressive Hancock Central's come out here in the first 2 minutes of the game.
Jamal Burgess with the basketball, that's Trey Pierce, third leading scorer from the elbow.
He's tough.
He is very, very tough player.
First, two points for the rebels.
Quite huge when you guys, the tallest player, is able to handle the ball and especially when they travel against another problem on Simeon Hulsey.
He's just got to add an extra bounce to that move.
Bounce step, do the move bounce step, shot, bounce, step, pass, bounce, step, Do a cartwheel.
I don't care.
Just add the bounce to the the repertoire.
Turner County with the basketball it's Pierce over to Burgess run a lot of motion there's Ewing and Ewing can't hit the little guy stays here he is Stanton strong with the boys inside the holes he's down triple T able to maneuver Nice move gets off hands but what I did like Twitter account he did when he's catching the ball, they're going to double when he puts the ball on the floor.
Look for them to change that throughout the game.
They're going to double on the catch, double on the pass, double on the dribble, five point lead.
And the bulldog once almost forced a turnover.
Burgess with an open look as he battling inside with Odom and Lawrence convert the loose ball.
That's why I like him He could play for me every day of the week in place.
On Sunday, Lawrence makes all the right place.
There's palsy.
You can get a lot of touches inside.
That's Watkins can hit nice give and go though by hand kicks Fox Central conditioning is going to be a key in this game.
They're playing pretty fast pace.
Here comes the wholesale substitutions.
As you mentioned earlier, the first team, second team scenario by Turner County.
They'll bring in five at a time.
Hancock Central and man to man defense lob lobbing Ewing and then the defender was once they got that in the semifinal a lot against Wilkinson County however with the two big kids in Watkins and Hosey that's going to curtail that.
We're going to take a break with Hancock Central up by five here on GPB.
The broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association.

Welcome back.
Turner County in Hancock Central.
Bailey for the Boys State Championship, Hancock Center up seven two here at the Macon Center plex.
What do you see so far for Hansen Well, the big thing I've seen is Turner Counties had tough trouble getting started, and that's due to the fact that Hancock Central's speed and size and strength is kind of stymied their offense.
While you want the ball on Stanton's hands when during the pressure, he forces the turnover, but he gets it back, not there, gets the rebound.
Boy, that kid is tough and he's fouled inside the great steal by Turner's loss.
And they get on that when they doubled the ball but Stanton is awful fast fast as fast in the work force though I like about him he's he's plays low to the ground he's very powerful uses his body as leverage extremely well He hits the free throw Stanton had to watch as his team advanced to the state tournament last year.
He was a casualty of bad grades, but he felt he let his teammates down and he buckled up, got his grades up.
He's eligible and he's enjoying his senior year.
Well, good things happen to good people who work hard.
Here's the Flex and Sam Spikes at the three.
He got to call that one from the playground.
The banker.
That's the lead, the three man to man, full court press.
And they'll do that.
Henry County wants to force in the bad decisions double team one.
Look at that pass by Lawrence Wright over to Watkins Palsy.
That ball moved by Hancock Central.
Now look for the ducking down low and Lawrence low to look for three the shot rebound by Turner County Kenny Moore up top Tavon Carswell the teardrop and champ can't hit Kent Spikes.
That's probably not the shot that Coach Cullen wanted There more than a half to go.
First quarter.
John Wilkerson, Phil Hansen, Jon Nelson here with you from the Making Sense play at the back shot with a long swing that was set up by Kevin holds his pass, has a great job of recognizing the floor and where the open man is second three pointer in the game for John Terry Stanton and puts the Bulldogs in double figures shot up to no good action here by the Champ Spikes and the little guy expected with a name like Champs Spikes to mix it up inside.
And he did hits two and draws the foul.
He's tough Coach Holland has the luxury of having spikes Caswell and Jackson is a three headed point guard and also Kenny Moore can play the combo guard in the one the two can connect on the free throw and Watkins is there.
He's fouled inside the fake Spike's got him.
Now you hate to have a foul that far away from the basket but you're being aggressive and again you've got four point guards you can use the first the third and Stanton bringing the ball up to see it go watch James that he couldn't handle even though Turner County did not get a steal and that man to man full court pressure.
They've got a turnover due to a quick shot and not a catch.
Sometimes when you come down, you think you have a shot.
It's fool's gold.
You take the quick shot and you miss is as good as a turnover.
Spears and rebound to Stanton Lawrence thinking about it pulls up into the hot hands and behind the arc long patient.
Although both teams do a great job of running their offense sets, Watkins thought about it.
Stanton with a little open look for three and the rebound by Spears he is a big young kid, six, eight sophomore.
They call him the big C-note.
He says, Hey, big fella takes up a lot of space inside and so move by more.
You can hit Watkins with the rebound.
Watkins is extremely accurate on the defense an offensive rebound We've come to the end of the first quarter.
Hancock has the early lead as we in the first quarter here on GPP in the class single boys title game in 1968, Dick Penick set out on a new adventure to live alone for one year in the Alaskan wilderness, and he would record everything on film.
Now see his amazing footage and hear his incredible story of survival alone in the wilderness.

Georgia's electric membership corporations lighting the way Career Coming soon to Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station and now broadcasting in digital in the Atlanta area on TV looking for day, watching how we assess the first quarter for controlling the tempo of the game.
And we, as we alluded to earlier about tempo, balance and turnovers, Turner County does a great job of scoring in bunches.
They play extremely fast and they throw a lot of bodies at you and they make you turn the ball over.
But the guard play of Hancock Central, Stanton Huff and Lawrence have done a superb job of valuing the ball first team now in for Turner County, Trey Pierce stealing the ball that's much he's Texan drive and he's a tough little player that's with his first two points of the game.
He gets them going offensively defensively man to man defense now he's guarding John Terry Stanton really put up a shot see that's solely due to the defensive pressure by Marquese Jackson.
That time he caused a quick shot by Stanton and set and called on the foul then turned he got a block foul on the other end of the floor on Stanton.
Second foul on L.A. Stanton Turner County Road in Macon was a first round victory over Kelly in the second round the field action some county look for Ewing inside he had central Talbots in in the quarterfinals in the semis.
There he is.
He's a defending state champion looking for five players.
Demetrius Ewing scores is a nice job of putting Ewing's all in the same side on the floor at Pierce.
He's trying on one hand.
Here's Lawrence thinking about it.
Ozone.
look at that shot with the left hand.
He's got soft hands.
Hancock Central back in the lead again.
Look for Pearson Ewing to be on the same side of the floor.
So it's hard to double down Jackson feeds to Pierce.
Pierce ties the clock and.
go to the bulldog again the size of Hancock Central.
He's definitely playing a role with Turner County's offense.
Take a look at James Watkins, number 5616 eight, The BLOCK Nice crossover by Lawrence and he turns it over Freshman the pressure does John it cuts down on your thinking that Jeremy Lawrence is the best player on the football basketball team turns it over there in Turner County there's Ewing inside on the block guarded by by Watkins and hauls he there with the block and Ewing goes back up strong this time Paul Watkins on the foul.
Well the reason he got that file he kind of turned away from the contact is basically Ewing took the ball right to Watkins if he just squared his chest up right to him, he may not have got the call his great block by Hosey.
But you got to go back and get the ball first foul on Watkins Ewing at the line you call him Mr.
Consistent because there's lots of double doubles this season and as you see substitution Saquon for Allen and he comes in for one reason he wants to shoot he can bomb them.
We saw him line some bombs in the semifinal against Portland.
You got to take your hat off to Portland to Wilkinson County.
It was just a fabulous semifinal that on Wednesday Lawrence would want the ball in his hands, playing it up under pressure.
beautiful pass.
Intercepted ball by Odom.
And see, that was solely caused by Marquese Jackson coming up there when the running jump up on the press.
He did a superb job of leaving his man trapping when the ball couldn't can't see you, which caused the errant pass by Lawrence flew well on this shoot airball a little quick turn of time you look at the Ron Paul beautiful pass to Pierce that's Marcus Jackson.
Marquese Jackson is doing a great job of taking the ball into the teeth of the Hancock Central defense right into the lane again causing the Hancock Central big people to rotate inside out, which is exposed in the baseline for a layup.
Now showing some 1 to 2 zone press easily broken by Lawrence through Allen Stanton As soon as Jarvis hops the long three Stan did a nice job of bringing the ball to the side of the floor on that play as all ready for it to Con Farrell on to watch one of those threes in his stay tuned it's gonna shut up no good And for one with the board we'll push it up the floor for Hancock Central pass to watch him if he can't handle it battle for it tied up it'll go to Turner County.
If you're coming straight down on one of your post players, you don't want to hit him with a bounce pass to an air pass where he can catch it.
Anything on an angle you want a bounce pass into the post.
So that's kind of a tough pass for him to catch it.
His feet and heads up.
Play by Trey Pearce before the tie ball and so Hancock Central get the ball back Palsy as a blocking foul That was Burgess but a little too much for me.
I got him with the body.
Now we're going to call Keyshawn.
and get kind of got him with the body.
You don't you leave your feet.
You're going to get the foul ball every time you want to have your hands straight up and back, hands straight up in bed.
Soft touch by the big fella Kenny on Hull's six seven Junior being recruited by Georgia Tech.

Georgia.
Auburn.
Who's who?
The U.S.S.

He's a hot commodity.
We got a hot game going on here and tuck central leads by three.
As we go to break here on GPB, broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association, the GHC.

A four point lead by the Bulldogs of Gamecock Central here in the Boys State Championship game.
John Wilkerson.
So Hansen and John Nelson here with you himself.
We mentioned at the top of the show about the first team, second team concept of Turner County.
And I think we're seeing will maybe championship pressure because we haven't seen a whole lot of that.
You're going to play, you know, the gun that shoot straight, so to speak.
I mean, you're going to go with your best players in a grant.
You have a system, you're bringing people in and bringing people out.
You got to produce when you're in there and this game, you know, has got great magnitude to it.
You're playing for the single-A state championship and the turnover.
James Watkins coming away with the loose ball and man to man defense again by Turner County There's palsy picks up back out the lines and half for the long free not there Pierce comes away with the loose ball Turner County little bit in scoring drought as care she got the ball in his hands to me points kind of forced it yeah he forced that shot and Lawrence comes like a loose ball cold shooting afternoon so far for Turner County going look a shot battle for the scrap in a timeout now they call a timeout as Hancock Central's James Watkins had the ball no one challenged him so he plays they call the timeout well he was about to get tied up for a jump ball situation there again Llewellyn took a pretty quick shot there.
You really don't you really don't want that shot coming right there Now you can get it three any time.
Best out of defense, out of transition because the defense hasn't set up yet.
But you know, you want to work the ball around a little bit and then you can get that shot any time within your offense, boys.
That is an example of the magnitude of this game.
Every kid going at it, they're playing for keeps.
Somebody will take home a trophy at the end of this game.
And you take a look at Turner County head coach Eric Holland.
I love that sport.
Coach.
One word that describes him as intensity.
no kidding.
He's he's the most entertaining coach on the sidelines in this state.
He does a super job with his club and he has an eye for fashion as well.
And he had it knocked away by Keyshawn Odom's off and flew along with him.
Open lane not to tip in not good by Watkins There's Ozzie inside and they got the twin towers They're going to shoot play volleyball with it all day long.
You got to get on the boards Turner County or it's going to be a long day.
Here's your best score.
Try to force inside the Ewing and knocked out of bounds by Harvey.
It's going to go to the Bulldogs I believe, or indecision there who actually touched it last week came here, reversed it I think they did reverse it again.
When you feed the post, John, you want a bounce pass into the post and you want to try to feed the post below the foul line, extend it, which gives you the best angle on the defense.
Some of the second team coming in, Kenny Moore and Javon Carswell.
These guys are like Noah's Ark.
They have two of everything.
Well, Turner County, like the only time they'll mix the first and second teams is in the fourth quarter.
But now we're seeing here in the second quarter, I mean, they've got to get something happen.
There's champs Spikes.
He's checked in, he'll put up the shot.
Ooh, nice little teardrops work.
And he found something that's working today.
Four point lead by the Bulldogs Here's Lawrence and Ewing blocks it Demetrius Ewing Not a bad play even though the shot got lucky.
You still want to challenge the defense when you're on offense.
It's Llewellyn who put up the shot Kent by one so far rebound by Turner County Todd Lawson.
Now it looks like we have, with the exception of Ewing and Pierce, the three members of that second team in shot up no good break down.
It's going to be a travel when it's all over the back and foul inside looks like they're on call up and swelling and flu.
Ellen take one for Ellen's watch the inbound are off the out of bounds play first foul and spikes with a nice pass inside the loss and can't get it There's Pierce with the follow again he just silently kills you He just kind of hovers around there.
There's holes in the back court and you got a handling skills for a67 Hancock Central can hit a few jumpers from the outside and open up a lot for their inside play.
We're all launch it from anywhere.
Spike thought about it.
When we can walk, we'll just steal by Huff forces the turnover with that tough defensive pressure on the perimeter.
Definitely.
If you can extend the opponent's offense and make them go sideline and down, remember that is if you could take a line and draw it straight across the court horizontally and then one vertically and bring that ball to the sideline and then straight to the baseline, they're gonna have a hard time running their offense from the midpoint.
Coming up on a minute left in the first half.
Both defenses are doing a great job of extending each other's offense out.
Now that passes in 15 feet it's 17 or 18 Ozzie with a move on Ewing go go on the second foul on Demetrius Ewing and he got it as a reach there again you want to go straight up hands up and back.
Let the offside guy come and get the block.
Cameron Halls.
He has a 3.0 GPA.
Favorite subject is world history.
You really love to read about World War Two, the A World War two buff.
If you can sense this, John, the tempo now, I believe is starting to switch more towards Turner County.
This is their type of game.
Little Harum Skyrim, Helter Skelter.
Next thing you know, you're down ten.
Chris Spears checks them Sophomore six, eight.
An empty trip for Z in a battle for the board and the Big six eight spears gets it is a foul Jarvis Huff bodies up You don't need that butler he's not going to score there consistently throughout the game first foul on shooting the bonus one and one here 17 foul Kenny Moore back up point guard I guess you could say the point guard of the second team.
Well, they've got three point guard, Jackson Spikes, Campbell, and you won't say more.
They have four.
And that's a tremendous luxury.
And you can just throw a lot of people and wear down your opponents point guard.
Plus, you get in here, it makes it very awfully tough for you to press them.
A perfect trip for Kenny Moore and it ties the game.
44 seconds to go.
Lawrence is going to play for last shot for Hancock Central to go in the locker room tied up with a two point lead.
And they got a mismatch down low.
Now, when they got to double it, Spikes was matched up on Harvey Lawrence at the three the those want it I love that kid he is so active around the basket two point lead for Hancock set for the travel almost a fourth time and it is as Timmy Moore was trapped at midcourt and there's that defense forcing bad decisions definitely pressure will cause that again you got to run your offense.
You never want to jump to pass.
That's a long shot.
But here's what I like about it.
He just comes in from nowhere.
He crashes, never stops playing, doesn't take plays off.
Hancock has a chance to increase their lead going into the locker room.
Lawrence, with a big shot on the last possession is fluid and he'll shoot from anywhere.
Now he loses it.
Turner Cannon with 5 seconds to go, Carswell loses inside his haws.
He'll pull it up.
my.
Hopkins Still three at the end of the first half as Hancock Central leads by 222 to 20 here in the boys class single-A State championship game.
It's gone a little crazy there at the end.
But good fundamental game by both.
And John Nelson is standing by with the Hancock Central head coach Anthony West.
Thanks.
Here with the coach first half it was runs and runs and you pretty much just survived that for 16 minutes.
Yeah, the first half to go like I expected to you know when they double and triple and my big guy we're not making outside shots right now so we got to make a halftime adjustment a second.
We don't get to go in the second half.
I was going to say, what do you do to adjust knowing that they're going to be going after the big guys down low?
I just got to tell my guy they got to continue to shoot the ball, find a open spot and they going to double and triple team all game.
So they just got to find open all of us by to make the shots.
All right.
Thanks for your time, coach.
Good luck.
Second half, Hancock Central, up by two guys.
Thank you.
John Nelson at halftime of halftime activities.

Tomorrow on TV, we're at halftime here at the Boys State Championship game single-A Hancock Center up by two.
What you're seeing on the floor is the athletic excellence of both schools.
There's much more for both these schools to brag about.
And with that, John Nelson is standing by with the principals.
Yes, we're here in the principal's office.
John, you're with Principal Stone and Principal Cleveland.
And since we decided this in the break, since Hancock Centrals leading, we're going to start with Turner County.
First, I got to ask, is this in line with the head coach?
What's with the bow tie in the wardrobe?
we made a deal with our head coach.
Me and my superintendent did that.
The during the season that they made it to the Final Four, I'd wear a bow tie to school on Wednesday into the game.
And so we did that Wednesday in the locker room After the game, the kids asked me, Coach, don't you go with Saturday?
That's it.
Absolutely.
So that's why I'm wearing it for and honor our team and and make good on what I promised.
What's it been like this last week, this whole run for you guys?
I want to say 1963 was the last title.
What's it been like down in Ashburton?
it's been electric.
Our kids have really been into it.
Our faculty has Our town did an outstanding job.
It's Just been really fun to be a part of a of Turner County High School this past week, everyone has been doing a great job and our kids have done an outstanding job in the classroom being contained in the last two days.
But it's been really fun.
We didn't have a pep rally coach go tell and it won't.
Do you want to keep it kind of simple, but we've had fun.
So what else is going on at Turner County academically, athletically, intramurals, that folks need to know about what's going on?
We've got a great school with our small school.
We got about 480 kids.
So we're a small rural county, very tight knit community.
We're getting ready for the graduation test that comes up in about two weeks for us.
So our big push is getting our kids, really our juniors, ready for the graduation test.
And along with that, trying to get our seniors that's that's ready for graduation.
We're ready to walk across that stage in a few months.
Chad, thanks for your time.
Hang out with me here a little bit.
Let's go to the flip side and the leaders at the half cocked Central.
And you, sir, are in uniform.
I sure am in uniform.
This year's the first year for uniforms for Hancock Central High School.
We have a 95% participation and everyone loves it.
It's it's not just a high school, but it's a uniform school for the district.
So the middle school in the elementary school also wear uniforms.
So what's life been like down in Spartan in Hancock County for the run as they're shooting for the stars?
This recess right there in the shirt?
Absolutely.
That's what we are.
We set our goal earlier this year to shoot for the stars.
The team has played outstanding.
We've had a tremendous response from the community.
Every stakeholders involved in this run, we've already set history by making it here today because we've never played in a state final of any kind of sport in the sport of Georgia at Hancock Central High School.
So everyone is here and we're having a wonderful time.
What's going on academically at Hancock Central folks need to know about.
We had an outstanding Georgia high school graduation rate in tests.
Our performance map, the performance of the state.
The state was 84% meets Hancock County.
Hancock Central High School was also 84% meet.
We are looking forward again to the upcoming test the end of this month and we are expecting some very high scores from our students.
This is your second year here.
Maybe look at the crystal ball over five, ten years.
How'd you like to see things grow and evolve at Hancock Central?
I think Hancock Center is going to emerge as one of those schools of excellence.
We are going through a current culture change.
I'm one of the center points and focuses of that culture change.
I made a commitment to stay there and to turn this into a school of excellence that will satisfy every stakeholder in the city.
My principal, Cleveland, thanks for your time.
Principal Stone.
Thanks for your time.
That's the way things are here at halftime here in the principal's office.
I think we have some highlights and some stats with John and Phil.
Let's go, bulldogs.
Great stuff there and let's show you some highlights in the first half here at the Making Center Parks and it's very much Hancock Control Center, Hancock County Central and John Terry still got a great shot by Stanton, got his feet set this the kid I like Pierce and he gets himself going They're going to be off the races and Cameron Hall's the inside Got it going Nice drop step layup Great job by the big fella Still getting it going Jarvis Hough from three point land but I love the way he holds He passes the ball he sees the floor extremely well for a big fella and half again he had two important three pointers in the first half.
Got a good lead going for Hancock and the rebounding inside and Pierce with a follow well piercing loss and definitely give Turner County a dynamite one two punch at the forward position.
And there's James Watkins.
It's been active inside 18% from the field, the 35% shooting skills Little League.
But look at the rebound by Turner County.
Well, 12 and six.
And you think Turner County be way ahead with that.
But again, another thing I'd like to see is the turnovers in effect in regards to 10 to 7 champs spikes with nine points and we're going to tip off the second half.
They're going for a state championship here in GPB.

Back in Macon at the Boys State single-A State championship game, Hancock Center up by two.
John Nelson standing by with Turner County head coach Eric Holland.
Thanks, guys.
Here with Coach Holland back and forth, a bunch of runs, you pretty much kept them in check.
What you tell them in the locker room.
we got to stop him.
Some shots.
They keep us from getting to the basket so long, and then we got to hit some shots, but we don't hit on the stars and we're not going to go too many points.
Well, they hit some stuff in the second half to win.
And so he's going to try and win it in the second half.
Guys, let's send it back to John and Phil.
Thank you.
John Nelson and Phil Handsome, He's in the second half, I think, for Turner County, as coach alluded to one, they're going to start really getting into their offense and work their offense to get some good shots in their offensive sets.
Number two, look for them to capitalize off their defense and try to get some free points via their pressure for Hancock Central, Look for them to try to put Stanton and Hosey on the same side of the floor to cut down on that double teaming so he can kick out to a shooter and then reverse the ball and have Lawrence on the other side that gives them another shooter and have Watson working opposite in tandem with Hulsey down low playing a high low game inside this the first trip to the state finals for Hancock Central.
They've won only one other state championship in any sport.
That was in baseball in 1985.
It's the only state title ever in Hancock Central on account of his possession.
Open the second half.
Here's the alley oop to young and they do that to get the team started get them up and started get the energy flowing.
Then they have done it.
That's how you score and your offense sets ties the game watches from the elbow not but there's palsy and rejected by Ewing is a great high low action by Hancock Central right there between Hosey and Watkins and Demetrius Ewing has come out with a lot of energy Great cut Stanton fouled inside by Trey Pierce can't fall asleep and out of bounds plays the most dangerous guy on the floor is the in bounder play can't get enough of watching that lob they ran that to death against Wilkins accounting the semi's stand favorite players Dwayne Wade is pretty good guy not bad The perfect trip for Austin my man Hancock Central keeps that lead Ewing He's been very active as we started the second half the foul away from the ball Lawrence ran right through and you got to go to the inside of that screen go to the ball side of that screen.
Third third foul on Jeremy Lawrence Fouls that up and there's Pierce for the drive whistle scoop tremendous scorer when he goes to his right So Turner County coach Horn said they got to score well there's a high low look and they listen as tough with a three and a rebound by Turner County that's a hip check by half tough and the court as the frustration fouled he didn't think he got the call when he shot the ball and then he hip checked him right at half court Second foul on Huff Anthony Webb he's six graduate of Hancock Central the entire coaching staff over Hancock Central, all homegrown, all Hancock Center alums Jamal Burgess with a three not there battle inside for the ball boy and then go to Hancock Center but watching them inside battle for position.
It's been it's been a fun to watch but definitely the tempo is what Turner County wants.
They've got the dunk come off right out of open the third quarter.
They've got the defensive pressure working.
This is exactly what Coach Allen wanted it quick steal right there turnover and a foul Stanton fouls Marquise Jackson and Hancock Center has got to settle down that's a third foul understand why mental discipline is so key outstanding be it and Lawrence both were three four Hancock Center those are two guys you can't afford to lose.
Marquis Jackson five seven senior coach Allen says he does the little things on the floor now.
He's the quarterback of the club offensively and defensively, one of two at the line and Turner County with a one point lead man to man pressure full court, Curry County trying to pick up that tempo want to get more and a helter skelter type game.
Hancock Central very patient entry pass to Hall's either Stanton good pass great pass along to the open look and I'll go to Turner County sometimes John with these on courts like this they had the 33. line kids think that that's the one furthest one is the one they need to shoot by Lawrence took a shot that was two feet three feet, basically behind the three point line.
Take a little step in there and knock down the 19 footer and turnover by half.
Good defensive play there by Jarvis Tough.
He is a defensive specialist on Hancock Central.
He's a type of kid that just will not back down.
He's got extremely quick feet really good guard the inbound pass we're in the second and the third quarter here at the Making Center flex, Turner County, Hancock Central going for the state championship and the boys by single-A crown the state champion his girls seeing late great rebound by Watkins and Watkins complete the rebound Cowboys they won the girls state championship earlier you guys Double-A boys and girls in triple-A boys and girls here on GPB fall afternoon.
The high school basketball is Cameron Hardy with a spin move out.
Hancock Central has a scored in the month and pushing up the floor.
Josh Jackson, Artis Jackson You've got to stop the ball at the top of the key.
You got to get the ball inside.
Line it down.
You can I'm not allow that deep dribble penetration calls it double teams takes it back out the sting nothing there Here's Hall's he is what's great pass high low half tries to save it I know go Turner County on the turnover Posey made a great pass to Watkins on that kick out Unfortunately Watkins threw it away but excellent inside out action a three point lead for Turner County.
We're back after this here on GPB broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the Georgia High School Association, the GHC.
We'd like to thank Dodge for their support of high school sports programing on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Dodge hopes you enjoy the game.
Turner County up 2724 in the Boys single-A State Championship here on GPB.
John Wilkerson, Troy Hansen, John Nelson and Hancock Central.
A bit of a scoring drought, definitely, but which can't happen is like let one bad play turn into six.
If you didn't scratch when you came down on the one trip offensively, relax, come back, run your sets, look for a good shot, knock it down when you had it.
Yeah.
Hancock Center hasn't scored in 2 minutes in 30 seconds.
And there's Marquese Jackson.
he got it going for the throat now Turner County, the lead is up to six here steal by Pierce Lawrence able to pick up his dribble Great pass blocked all this Holy see the floor and a walk by Watkins But you got to love the way Cameron Hosey sees the floor It's an excellent excellent pass look for coach Webb to put Watkins on the other low post and bring a shooter to the foul line.
And when they double skip it to the to the foul and you got a free throw That was the 12th turnover by Hancock.
It's been a rough third quarter for the Bulldogs yelling at the top of the key he looked for the lob there Odom yelling will take the shot but there and Hulsey with the ball six seven bringing up like a point guard for the street The foul lines wide open Stanton is obviously with a spin move really nice shot and one he is so long Cameron Hall's he people like to see him in a college uniform much just spin move.
One thing I like about him John he never looks rattled.
No, he's got ice water in his veins.
You mentioned SCC and SCC schools until he got some big 12 schools.
He's got a nice stroke from big fella to that 50 foot range on that jumper that has a big bucket.
That's the lead to three might be a momentum shift Odom that's the champ spikes with it Here's Pierce travel and he walks so you get the feeling the momentum is shifting towards team Maroon again if the team that runs their offense is very effective when you go one on five, it's a tough day at the beach substitution coming in.
Todd Lawson for Turner County, Keyshawn Odom coming out here, Stanton Huff pushing it out of control and will stay with the Bulldogs.
That's not the greatest shot.
Run your offense and you're going to give it the whole Z's got to touch it every time down the floor.
I'm not saying he needs to shoot it.
I'm saying every time down the floor he must touch it for the shot.
You just center that offense from fouled inside.
Looks like a well they can't garden and to come down and just jack up the three without him getting involved That's criminal dealing with his third second personal foul I mean he's such a force down low and he's going to make something good happens and he's got a nice shot from the free throw line.
And even with them doubling and triple team, in the end, he still does a good job of coming and getting the ball and becoming a receiver.
32 points against total.
I follow thanks to this we should academy double double 1911 rebounds against the Wolfpack in the quarters and with the ball going inside two holes it's making the game the half court game by half he was shot up and Watkins with the rebound being harassed by lost and able to get away Here's Huff Sam thought about it and look for the look for him inside.
Let's get it they they're going to grab foul hang instead they're calling holes on the foul inside look at body that's his third that's a big foul.
Anthony Webb wasn't real happy with that call either.
No Turner County with a chance here spikes with an open look.
Nope.
Well, he'll pop it.
It's not this time.
Big rebound.
What a rebound.
Nice boy.
He's not afraid to mix it up with the big fella going by Senior tough as nails warrants driving.
He's got three fouls.
Yeah, but you weren't getting anything out of that.
He was trying to drive the ball right through a brick wall and there was no space to make that drive substitution.
Kenny Moore coming in as well as Chris Spears, a68 sophomore.
I mean, that's a great luxury.
Coach Holland has to bring in Moore and Spears coming off the bench there.
Again, there was no space to go anywhere.
If you can't get to the rim with one with one dribble from the three point line, you're not open for a accounting with another chance.
Here, Spike, he'll take it Great offense so patient starts at 14 in the quarter final win over central Talbots in this walk ins and walk in from the elbow how's he battling for the board but Spears at six eight grabs it at that time as he won the break at six seven.
Here's Lloyd to slow it up didn't have the numbers night make that has us great pass Lawrence with an open alley That's a great pass by Huff outstanding ball reversal again if you take the ball you bring the ball down one side of the floor throwback to the middle then reverse it.
You're going to get something good every time down the floor.
You got to make the defense establish a strong side and reestablish the strong side coming from the weak side.
And the defense can't outrun the ball.
Patient team Turner County, that's more at the drive and another rebound just by Stanton and he's fouled and it looks like Boston time lost it on the foul any time this game can become a halfcourt game in regards to how Hancock Central wants to play advantage, Hancock said Flip it any time and Turner County can get this game going up and down, back and forth where they can run their sets out of transition advantage.
Turner County Only the 14 foul on Turner County Here's Huff from the baseline Little Thunder is not there Jose can't get it Hulsey again a third chance and he'll go to the line Boy what a luxury you have when you miss a shot.
And there's the two big guys, Watkins and Hall's he holds.
He's there for a second, third and fourth chance.
Well, basically what Catalent and Turner County is saying is Hancock Central's guards are going to have to beat us.
You know, we're going to double now.
WATKINS and hold it in double and triple him all night.
So they're going to say Hancock Central Guards must beat us.
That's how they're going have to play a kind role for housing.
And I'm just so impressed with his forehand skills in the open floor.
That's that's going to pay big dividends for him when he gets to the next level.
You put 20, 30 on him, he's going to be a stud, one of two.
But they're standing bull in a tough little guy is that's a big board.
Here comes the double and hauls.
He kicks it inside for this one things any time your man goes in double teams, if you're on the offensive in the floor, go to the front of the rim.
It's a wide open layup.
Every time.
Hancock Central, the momentum switching over to the morning team, they're up by one.
That's 7 seconds to go in the third quarter and the second team now the first team coming in now for Turner County.
So any time you go to double team, James Watkins got to go to the front of the rim.
He's going to have a layup every time the shot clock.
So we've played three quarters here in the Boys single-A state championship game.
the fourth quarter should be fine.
Hancock Central up by 105 state champion here on TV.
Yeah that was that was a six career.

Welcome back to make and John Wilkerson so handsome John Nelson Hancock Central up by one in the Cowboys single-A state championship game.
And Phil Hansen.
That was kind of a momentum shift in the third quarter from Turner County and then back to the Maroon team of Hancock Central toward the end of the quarter.
You feel that Hancock Central's guards have got to get more aggressive?
Definitely.
Even though a few shots didn't fall for Stanton Huff and Lawrence, you still got to play with the same intensity or even more on the defensive end of the floor and a foul on Marquis Jackson trying to steal it from John Terry of Stanton it's his first team fouls now are going to start coming into play here any time you try that reach around more likely to get that foul.
I think he picked that one clean now but this turns into a halfcourt game that favors him.
Definitely a favor.
Hancock Central 94 foot game favored Turner County policy the anchor that offense will put up the shot rebound by Jamal Burgess Not a bad stroke.
That's the shot Turner County wants him to shoot.
Huey, who is very active in the third quarter, the beginning of the third close and playing well.
There's a move by Mike Sexton.
He'll go to the line.
Never won a foul.
The shooter that once and Lawrence got him with the body he's fouled on once That's a big foul Lawrence he has become the team leader this year Marquese Jackson 78% free throw shooting and let those numbers go down when it comes to the fourth quarter of a state championship game, doesn't it?
Definitely.
I mean, I always laugh when I look at those percentages.
I'd like to see what the percentages are in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Last 3 minutes of the game.
I think they're more indicative of what kind of free throws here.
You haven't been able to go outside the game.
I tell you, it's thrilling.
The girls Game Boys first single state championship game has the makings of becoming a thrilling.
It is Hall's the outdoor watching season had that all day.
If they go inside look inside and then dive to the front of the rim, if your man goes in, doubles, This is perfect for Hancock Central.
Just be patient.
Make the defense run.
The never won a basketball state championship in Sparta Palsy.
That's two in a row.
He's most looking.
How far do you think?
beautiful pass inside the Odom great great job I would have He went straight into the shot blockers chest went right through him because he shine on him.
The old crafty veteran.
He's been there for four years.
Russell, the best finisher on the basket.
He proved those skill moves.
There's lines.
This has been cold all day and dribbles.
You get the ball.
You never want to wait for the referee to make that call.
If you can get it, grab the ball.
Don't wait for the referee to bail you out.
Turner County.
Last time they won a state championship, 1963, we won a football state championship, 1976, and that's the last time we celebrate a state title and national That's Burgess driving himself Big rebound Trey Pearce there challenging to the luxury you have with and when he rebounds the break starts because he handles the ball so well two point lead by the rebels and looking to launch it just like trying to throw haymakers in a prize fight.
Work it around, get inside, then go for the knockout punch.
Anthony Webb We have a lot of time.
Lawrence has had a tough afternoon.
If the jumper isn't working, look to drive a score off your defense for the near steal.
You're going to have a tough afternoon offensively.
No, call them Turner Accounting at the break here's Pearce the team's leading scorer Can't get it out of bounds and to go to Hancock Central Trey Pearce has had a hard time trying to get on track offensively and that's due to the fact that Lawrence is doing a nice job of locked him up and and vice versa.
On the other end, Pearce is locking Lawrence up.
Yeah it's a nice little match up one on one match up patience of the Bulldogs under five to go in the title game Halsey's fouled and he'll go to the line.
He's going to get something good every time he goes to the basket that is holding because the double is coming in.
They got to somehow contest the shot.
Third foul on Demetrius Ewing.
Now you're gonna say, well, how do you counter that?
Well one you got to get better ball pressure and the guy that's feeding the passing the ball to him instead of him just sitting there be able to knock the he's off the fly.
Have you been impressed?
The state tournament has kept them in holes.
I think he's tremendous.
I think the competitiveness of this state final semi final, it was outstanding Wednesday night.
Great.
And this is just taking right for that lift off.
They call it naked Madness down here in Good County, central Georgia.
Nice double tied up.
We'll stay with Turner County Great adjustment by Coach Webb.
You always want a trap when the ball can't see you.
Jamal Burgess, stand down through this Tarrant County.
Want to get the tempo more to their favorite?
Definitely.
But they're so fishin in their offensive sets that they're able to score in a 54 game versus have fouled may have been Travis tough on the reaching for John Terry stand back and it's his fourth personal foul on the reaching and Stanton you cannot afford to lose spikes coming into the game Sam spikes his little spark every time he's come in and that gives you the luxury of two point guards on the floor is the only not there.
Also another big for ball how many points he got.
That's what he's doing to keep them in the game.
It's getting good.
Almost the 40 minute Morgan Curry with a steal.
You never want to jump the pass Pierce and Fuller County has the lead That's a four point play too.
You didn't get to that.
You just cost you on the defensive end of the floor.
You got a five second call coming here.
45 years since they celebrate the Back Pass championship in Ashton Lawrence.
He's been called from the floor.
Not this time, but that rebound.
my with the great presence of mind of dunk Terry Stanton.
You've got to block out you cannot spectate.
You have to participate and that ties the game The 345 mark just under 345 and watch Stanton inside.
He never stops playing.
Marquese Jackson's going to stay with him and block him out Keep ball you in the man principal stay between the ball and your man Well this April, don't miss the gripping true life story of the men and women of the aircraft carrier Nimitz, Patriotism, love and rites of passage.
Passage of war.
One of our most powerful naval ships.
Don't Miss Carrier.
Beginning April 7th only on GPB that Hosey would like that show.
But we've seen a couple of aircraft carriers inside.
Sorry, Al McGuire had to say it.
I don't think Al would mind.
When I was listening, I take a look at Eric Collins.
He's served the program there at Turner County, the same for 45 years, probably the best dressed coach and make it madness.
We've got still got some balls, four games to go, so you never know.
But yeah, I love the bow tie and his jacket combo.
He says he looks good on his wife.
Yeah, there's a little bit of a of an acquired taste, but mean to him.
She's a proof of the spikes as travel boy.
He met the big fellows and wasn't expecting them.
The aircraft carriers to knock him down screen on the ball.
So what they're doing, they're the screen on the ball roll into the ball side block flash in the ozone is fouled inside low post shot by space and looking for a high load Duffy inside the old jacket just went flying by Coach Holland As I said, he's the most entertaining coach to watch out here.
He gets into it.
He's intense.
All he has a chance to give Hancock Central the nothing rattles this kid man sold on him and just wait till he gets to the big buildings and maybe a college basketball.
Wait, he's going to definitely have to put on some weight and that'll come through maturity also, Turner County calls timeout and down by two in the fourth quarter.
It's been 45 years since that Turner County team won the state championship.
Eric Holland likes the work.
Those officials, he's going to try to get every advantage he can for his club.
Turner County's Road to Macon, first round win over Cuccinelli in the second round seeing Atkinson County 6749 in the quarters 7273 52 win over central Tiverton and then that classic game Wednesday now is Wilkinson a 5250 win an upset over the defending class AA state champions and I hey that was a statement game for that Turner County team.
You're definitely right.
I mean, any time you can have a victory over a Wilkinson County team, as they did in the semifinal, anytime you beat them, you can kind of judge your program where you are because, you know, Dr. Aaron Peter Jeter does an outstanding job at his club.
You got to keep your head up.
Coach Brannan for Portland, they were his was the story class as well.
Sure, maybe they were from the way.
So yes, he was always Demetrius Ewing with the one big shot.
You always can judge it, Coach and how well they perform after a timeout.
And now the backcourt pressure by Turner County trying to pick up the tempo.
But those ball handling guards for Hancock Central able to handle it and there's Hall's a cool eight rebounds Watkins inside how many times has James Watkins filled out his game He's always there to get as you call like a junk player to get all the garbage.
He does a superb job of picking up the scraps and Watkins will be playing on the next level.
Definitely Spikes and Watkins with the turnover and Hancock Central now trying to take control a minute Mark you have to patient look for the high low action again palsy after walking from the top of the key that's a big bucket James Watkins in double figures and the fans from Sparta loving it made them in the heat got central full time out outside Turner County.
the fans from Sparta, Georgia, they're setting a state championship.
They've never won one in a high school basketball.
The baseball team did win a state championship in 1985.
It's the only title in the school.
Anthony Webb in his fourth year is just taking the shot by little action.
Throw the ball into the low post, slashed the other post to the foul line.
It's going to be wide open because a double team in it, there is a shot right there.
Again, whoever double teams the ball, if that man will dive to the front of the rim, then bring up the backside, go to the free throw line.
You're either going to have layup or a shot at that.
It's a straight Anthony Webb, the fourth year head coach.
He's a graduate of Hancock Central High School, 1986 graduate.
The entire coaching staff homegrown, all Hancock Central graduate boy with a state championship you need something big for them Look for Turner County now either to a get a shot off a skip pass.
They'll bring the ball to one side the four and skip it across the defense and or look inside for Ewing and or Pierce us with some tough defensive pressure there on Kenny Moore and it looks like Hancock's extended that defense Jackson with the penetration low at Stanton at 510 take the big boys still a steal and here's Pierce what a great play by Stanton.
I tell you, I'm impressed with that kid.
Now, the most dangerous guy on the floor is the inbound.
Or watch for Pierce stepping back in for a shot or a roll for Young coming the ball.
So you think about John Terry Stan couldn't play last year because of great buckled up, cracked the books, got the grades and here he is with a chance to win a state championship.
Here he comes.
There's Jackson.
It is not about the inbound quick time out and the leaves cut the one the fans in from Ashburn who made the trip now has something to shout about.
There's a step in, right, for the inbound.
Powell.
You cannot fall asleep almost like a toe is on that line.
So but I think he's on the outside circle to my back saying, I'm not sure about the circles with a minute nine.
Now look, look for Turner County to extend their pressure, it can make it tough for Hancock Central to get the ball bounds.
Now if they overplay, you don't have to go for the home run and throw it over the top.
Set a screen run.
All you got to do is beat one guy, come across the guy, this defender defending you.
If he overplays it, hit the brakes and reverse.
You can run the baseline because it's after a make hit him and up you go and clear out and get out of his way as we in the final man this game how huge is it to have a guy like Cameron Hall at six seven who can handle the press, can handle the ball and shoot free throw and people would kill to have it?
You know, he knows how to come up there and do that.
A It just makes it so much pressure on your defense cause you're big.
Can't guard him in the open floor.
I tell you, we had a great girls game and this boy's game is turning into a classic as well.
Playing is this tremendous high school basketball.
It's best and you know, let's go back to Hancock Central State, did a nice job and now he catches 45 by the inbound pass by John Terry.
A standard 510.
No, my goodness.
His palsy is a big break for Hancock.
You got to come to the ball.
You cannot wait for the pass under a minute pass and cut.
Do not stand defensively.
Don't let the ball change sides of the floor.
Keep it on one side.
Well, with the foul, she's one and one trying to take a steal off Jeremy Lawrence.
The Lord's got to step up there with confidence and knock these down.
Once has had a tough day on the floor played some good defense substitutions coming in now for Turner County Pierce Spikes, both of them have had that Hopkins for the rebels.
You take a look at Jeremy Lawrence.
He's stepped up this game, been a leader.
He's got a three free throws to help their cause the state championship.
And he checked it out and really get the rebound.
Now you got to play defense because Hyslop has five on him.
That plus that puts you in the bonus in the one one Jeremy Lawrence, a63 senior Llewellyn going to check in again.
Remember that Maryland's a very good standing shooter for Hancock Central.
Anthony will tell me I love this kid for Jeremy Lawrence.
I've always seen something special with him.
He's really stepped up as a leader this year.
He's you see the palace face fierce up the line.
Missed it battle for the board and I'll go to Hancock Central comes the extended pressure again Now that lob pass almost got picked off last time You just want to throw that throw a dog a bone pass which you guys are going to fight over.
It.
Hancock Central talked it over.
Boy, you can feel the tension in this building, Campbell.
You got to love it.
This is why you play John.
This is why you play.
We had two classic games so far.
I just think you got four more here in jeopardy.
I'm telling it is the best tournament going and call it Making Madness.
And it's lived up to the billing.
Eric Holland designing his defense High.
Deion Wesleyan will play in the girls State championships immediately following this one.
Then in The Boys, it's Wesley Wesleyan East Lawrence in Triple A, the girls that'll be after the double AA boys here on GPB.
I'll tell you we've got some great games coming up.
Stay with us next the next anything like this.
my look for Turner County A to switch on all screens and do not do not allow anybody to get behind you full court press by Turner County now Hancock Central try to catch the ball in the middle of the floor lane line extended you don't try to catch it near the sideline because then the sideline can become a defender.
Palsy, skip it, swing it standing under 30.
So not a bad first look commit the foul.
A lot of time they gamble they try to get a quick steal got the foul John Terry Stanton will go to the free throw line and how about well we've talked about him all day about the issues he has with the books stepping up to the line.
Hancock Center has had a great day at the free throw line.
Shoot two.
Here he is at the free throw line with a chance to bring the state championship trophy home.
So that double bonus is huge because there's not so much pressure on that first one in as it is in a one on one situation.
Now.
This one's live.
He felt he let his teammates down last year when he was a casualty of poor grades and wasn't able to enjoy their state tournament win last year.
Now Turner County issued this go does not need a three immediately perfect trip for Stanton three point lead by the Bulldogs a timeout by Turner County.
Nice job.
You always want to make sure there's no ambiguity at the end of a game.
Make sure everybody knows exactly what you want.
Run so you can work it and perform at your most optimal efficiency.
This Trey Pierce, the first going option for Turner County.
I would send him to the basket hard definitely because he's going to score or get fouled, which is gives you a three point play the old fashioned way.
So then you're right back in the game but he's going to make something happen.
Plus, he's more apt to draw one of the bigs Posey and or Watkins on a foul situation.
Plus if they do rotate inside out, that allows Ewing to do his magic on the baseline.
And how about the big fella's inside James Watkins and Cameron Hulsey?
As you take a look at the timeouts remaining, each with just one left.
But going back to those big guys from for Hancock Central Point, they played a great game in the state championship what they they're like a two man zone even when they're playing man to man because they're so dadgum long.
Watkins himself James Watkins on the 50 he's got being recruited by Jacksonville University, Florida A&M, all the new state mid-major division two schools.
But he's he's going to play pretty well in the next level despite what the drives got there with a rebound by filling in the ball full well it is foul with 10 seconds to go all the and Sparta can feel it You still got some time John you still got some time Again this is a double bonus.
He's going to shoot two free throws, but you're going to have to come down and get a31 free throw and make it a two possession game.
It's a plan for a junior, the best shooter on the team.
He's had a little bit of a rough go of it today.
He has a chance to nail down the state championship.
No silly fouls.
If you're Hancock Central, don't try to block shots still to get it going.
My goodness a foul on Stanton.
That's the last thing you want to do.
You know number five went on to Austin.
Yes.
All out your point guard plus they go to the free throw line shooting a one and one with the clock stop So they're able to shorten your lead with no time elapsing from the clock you can't do that and Marquese Jackson is the best free throw shooter on this Turner County team.
It's 76% so Jeremy Lawrence and John Terry Austin all casualties the foul Ryan Knox coming off the bench for Hancock Central good defensive player Mark Jackson is just tough to he makes this an intense inbound pass becomes the most important you cannot float it perfect trip to point lead by Hancock Central in a timeout by the Bulldogs look for Turner County now they'll change up the way their garden on the top of that press and they're full court man to man.
They may front it in play a center field to try to get the lob pass which Hancock Central's utilized to throw to Jose, or they're going to guard the boundary and trap the very first pass and go for a quick foul if they don't get it.
Boy, does the skills of Cameron Posey become huge now?
No, definitely.
I mean, you could him down as the first receiver cutting to the ball because he's going to get it and he's a good free throw shooter.
Look for the center field guard option or they're going to put a guy on the ball.
That is Turner County.
And when that pass goes in right off the bat, they're going to try to get a quick steal and foul immediately.
Eric Hollins telling his defense what to do.
Turner County been a while since they've had a state championship in Ashburn and boys basketball 25 years.
There are two points.
They need three points to bring it back.
Now, what Hancock Center has done here with Brian Knox just making him play all the way deep to stretch the defense.
Both teams brought in a large contingent of fans.
Right.
They're going to guard the inbound or they're going to switch on this cut, whichever they go, they're going to switch.
my God, love.
Stolen from now rebound the Hancock Central with one second to go.
Todd Lawson had the chance.
my goodness.
That's what I don't believe.
Coach Webb threw that up, but it worked out for now to cancel Allen at the line with a chance to nail down the state championship for Hancock Central.
Now crazy things have known to happen.
He is shooting, too, so there's no pressure on the first one that's big.
If he makes this one, it's it's a free throw for the state championship.
It's all over.
Hancock Central is the state champion is celebrating Sparta.
What a great ball game by two well ball clubs And if you're giving MVP Cameron Hall he deserves it, right?
Yes.
Yes and yes.
Hancock Central celebrates will come back as the Bulldogs are the state champion.
