And by viewers like you.
Live from the Macon Coliseum in Macon, Georgia, it's the 2006 single-A boys basketball championship featuring the Southwest Atlanta Christian Warriors and the Whitfield Academy Wolfpack.
As championship weekend rolls on here on GPB.
Glad to bring it to you.
I'm Jim to knock you six games down five games to go here in Macon on championship weekend.
What a championship weekend.
It's been some fantastic ball games as we've had champions from different levels in Class four and Class five.
Of course, the girls a single-A championship just completed here on GPB with Atkinson with Southwest Atlanta Christian beating Atkinson County 5345.
Now we come to the single-A boys championship, Southwest Atlantic Christian and Whitfield Academy as the scoreboard is being raised here for the big game.
It's it's going to be a good one.
Warriors come in at 27 and five, the Wolfpack at 27 and six.
Southwest Atlanta Christian looking for their second championship in the last three years.
Meantime, Whitfield Academy looking for their second state title in the last four years.
So two great schools and we have two great guys to call it for you, John Wilkerson.
And Phil Hanson.
Hey, guys.
Thank you, Jim.
And, you know, we'll talk about raising the score, but we hope this game raises the roof of the Macon Center plex because for the third time in four years, Southwest Atlanta, Christian and Winfield Academy are playing for a class single-A state championship.
You're right, John, Both these programs have turned the Final Four in their own personal invitational tournament in Southwest Atlanta.
Christian will begin with The Warriors are led by a McDonald's all-American and Javaris Crittenton.
One more explosive.
He can go 94 feet.
He attacks you off the dribble.
He can.
He's got three point range.
An outstanding player.
He demands defensive attention.
Anywhere he's on the floor, he gets off the bus.
People are looking to pick him up.
He's in the state finals for the fourth time every year.
He's known nothing but going to the state finals and he's won one state championship.
That coming two years ago in 2004, as we take a look at the starting lineup for southwest Atlanta Christian Eric Watts, the other guard to high school, Howard, Danny Friend and Omar Pruitt, Howard and friend, two other scoring options for southwest Atlanta Christian.
And again this they are a loaded team not a whole lot of size there but good guard three really good guards.
What I really like about him is they're very well organized.
They know and have defined roles and they can attack you collectively.
They're like a bunch of wolves.
They jump all over you and get after you quick.
Well, let's talk about speaking of Wolves, the Wolfpack of Whitfield Academy.
And they've got a kid, Phil, by the name of Kelvin McConnell.
This guy has unlimited range.
One word improvement.
I've watched him play over the last three years and what I really like this year, he's got so much composure, he's got great feet, and when he is set, he can light you up with unlimited distance.
He I think a shot from beyond three point area is a layup to him.
Well, that's more like a free throw.
He's tremendous stroke there.
Good look for southwest Atlanta Christian to try to get him to move off his spots.
But what I like about him this year, he commands the ball.
Three guards, John Hartley and Kevin Anderson.
Anderson's going to be fun to watch.
Cameron Baskerville and Brandon Reed gets the start as a forward.
He's a freshman, two freshmen in that starting lineup for Whitfield Academy.
You recall two years ago when they were in the final, they had three freshmen starters and they're all juniors now.
Right?
And Whitfield Academy might be a Noah's Ark.
They have two of everything.
They sub Anderson out and then they bring in Howard since the same guy.
And they can run that through their point guard position to the small forward to the center position.
Yeah they'll go about five deep on that bench.
And now let's go over to the third member, our crew, Scouse Levski.
Thank you very much, John.
I had a quick chance to talk to both coaches right before the game, and I told them to give me three points, three keys to winning this game.
Let me run them down for you.
Coach Johnson of Woodfield Academy told me, First of all, they need to dominate the glass.
Secondly, slow down the fast break and quickly get to their matchups.
And thirdly, protect the ball.
No turnovers for Southwest Atlanta Christian Courtney Brooks tells me.
First, play smart on offense, get your shot and minimize turnovers.
Secondly, rebound the basketball they do not want Whitfield getting any second shots and lastly he said hustle points are what is going to win this ball game and he wants his team to outhustled them.
Back to you, John.
All right.
Thank you, Scott.
And we're getting ready to get their starting lineups.
And to do that, let's hear from the voice of the Macon Coliseum.
Eddie, Ashley.
EDDIE This afternoon's game will have the Southwest Atlanta Christian Warriors with a record of 27 wins and five losses dressed in maroon.
As your visit goes on the scoreboard and the Whitfield Academy Wolfpack pack, 27 wins and four losses dressed in white as your home team.
May I have your attention for the starting line ups?
First for Southwest Atlanta Christian at guard number one, a six foot five senior Javaris Crittenton at guard number 20, a five foot 11 junior.
Eric wants at forward number 20 for a six foot five junior.
Jose O. Howard at forward number 25, a six foot five senior Danny Flynn at forward number 45, a six foot five junior.
Omar Pruitt at Southwest Atlanta, Christian's head coach, Courtney Brooks.
And now for Whitfield Academy at Guard number 31, a six foot two freshman Brandon Reed at guard number one, a five foot eight junior Kevin Anderson at forward number 12, a six foot two junior.
Jamal Huntley at guard number 33, a five foot ten junior.
Kevin of at forward number 35, a six foot five freshman.
Cameron Best, Kirby and WHITFIELD Academy's head coach Ron Johnson.
All right.
So now you know the cast of characters here get ready to tip off this class single-A state championship game Sample signing Christian Winfield Academy will do so right after this.
Even after 37 years, it's still fresh.
crossroad.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station.
And welcome back to Macon as we get set the tip off the class single-A state championship game in the boys southwest Atlanta Christian already a state champion.
The girls boy, what a great opening act that was.
Phil, that was a fun game.
And I know this one is just going to be a tremendous follow up to that.
I think a big key in the game is how many touches Jabar Crittendon yet again, he doesn't have to shoot it every time down the floor, but if he has his hands on it, he's going to draw a lot of defensive attention, which is going to free up open shots for his teammates Danny Friend and the Maroon of Southwest Atlanta Christian and Cameron Baskerville working out of Whitfield will tip it off.
Crittendon controls the tip, and then Crittenton gets the ball.
He's looking to penetrate, looking for that opening.
Kevin Anderson has the assignment to three Zone by Southwest Atlanta Christian, a long shot by Fitton and draws nothing but area Go to the Wolfpack.
Kevin Anderson, he's an exciting point guard.
If you remember Brian LAMB, who played so well for the last couple of years, will lives here in this big move by Kelvin McConnell smoking nice spin move and shot has great composure this year and the wolfpack have to go first blood double team on Eric Watts and our first foul Well you don't want that foul 50 deep in the basket they really didn't need that they had them in good shape because they had the halfcourt line as a defender.
Yeah.
Two three zone deployed by Winfield Academy.
Hugh Martin tied with the foul his first Eric wants to inbound southwest Atlantic.
Chris is going to a131 look to counter it you get the feeling of doing that to stop the penetration by Crittenton although there he is he gets bumped we'll call McConnell which will slow it up but Anderson will take the shot threatened with the rebound.
He's looking to run.
He's got numbers.
It's the basket and foul that is very strong with the ball in the open floor.
He's more of a he's that a consummate true ABC point guard.
He's more of a slasher scorer point guard.
But when he gets the rebound, he's off to the races and the scoreboards coming down here.
CRITTENDON You got to delay as a scoreboard begin to come down.
That's going to impede any high passes.
Tucker by the sixth defender.
So Crittendon at the line, shoot the free throw game tied to the timeout.
My Baskerville and turnover by the Wolfpack Here's Crittendon low look pass the what's a big time shooter He made some big threes because Randolph playing the semi McConnell and he took steps defensive pressure caused that turnover Kelvin's got to go straight through the shot blockers chess don't worry about getting set just go straight up and take the ball for the shot blockers.
Just a1211.
Press by whistle academy.
We've always talked you and I always talked about over the years about southwest of high Craig Christian sometimes not able to handle pressure well most teams that like to press don't like to be pressed.
Frank couldn't hit Anderson with the loose ball, which they're looking to push it.
Anderson stutter steps great little penetrator.
Kevin Anderson is right and once got there the wolfpack a patient enough to back it back out to three zone by southwest Atlanta Christian Anderson baseline cut off both teams very familiar with their total they've met twice this year both have split Whitfield one the first game back on January 7th.
Southwest Atlanta Christian won the regional tournament championship.
Between these two teams, the flash from the backside of that zone.
MARTIN cut off gets it inside blocked out of there by Troy.
That's Hazel Howard with the basketball blocked by Martin.
Now the red feel looking to run Here's McConnell great job using the rim to block to defend his hand.
Did you see Fairchild face cause this one's going to get fast Both teams very familiar so there's no really a feeling out process there.
No secrets here.
Now, Jim, what's Martin stepped on the line.
It'll stay with the Warriors.
John, You never want to save the ball in your own basket due to the fact that you're going to more likely have an assist to the opposite team.
If you can't save it, take it and throw it out of bounds.
Watch the lob That's friend and Baskerville with the rebound Good young looking good long arms good body McConnell it's about his wings the parking lot he got very patient Whitfield team Hartley in trouble threw it but he scores nice strong body he can take the ball inside He and Martin are kind of the X factors in that that can play inside outside without much trouble offensively and defensively, 6 to 4.
WHITFIELD As you know, under 430, turnover will go to the Wolfpack.
That's twice now Martin has got back on defense and has altered South with Atlanta Christian here now, Tavares Crittendon, his name has been kind of absent for the last minute.
So again, he does not need to shoot it every time down the floor, but he's got to keep his hands on the ball in control.
The whole complexion of the game.
And that's what the role you want from your point guard.
You want him to control the offensive game Martin knocked away and Southwest along in person comes off the ball Here's Eric what's Terry got away with that got down Martin.
Hi, Hazel.
How are you?
Take the baseline.
I was set to foul.
Called on to Hazel Howard.
I really like the way those Jazz's ball handling has improved this year.
He gives you a good secondary handle.
Plus he's a big body and he can take down and post small guards.
Courtney Brooks in his seventh year at Southwest Atlanta Christian for state trips to the state title game.
He won the state championship back in 2004.
A team led by Javaris Crittendon and the big forward Dwight Howard.
He's having an excellent year right now.
The Orlando Magic reinstates an approach after that game.
Cameron Baskerville over there with McConnell, McConnell looking for a shot.
It feels right in a little shuffle with the inside.
Players are sending one to the corner and then the bring in the backside guy opposite the ball and the flash in the middle of that zone foul he can score off the dribble Good penetration by Anderson Anderson came here but the little guy the three bounce he's tough as a point guard you must produce points following the foul on him down dangerous pass Vermont was able to secure it and a foul on Ford battling with Cameron basketball with those pressure is doing a nice job of making people other than Crittendon bring up the ball four point lead the time out by the Warriors 8 to 4 a score here to make them coliseum make it center play to just getting underway.
And I think we're seeing the familiarity with both teams because usually when you see these two title games, both teams tend to be conservative.
These teams are playing conservative.
It did right after it back to back.
So they're coming out of here with great tempo.
I mean, they they know each other and they they both play very aggressive and aggressive teams that like to press and trap score in bunches.
As we told you earlier, both teams have played twice this year.
Whitfield won the first game, 8664.
Kelvin McConnell had 32 points in that game and Southwest Atlanta Christian won the second meeting on February 11th, 7360.
As you take a look, the field goal percentage, a cold day so far for southwest Atlanta.
Christian Whitfield, four of seven from the field, west Atlanta Christian has changed their defense to a131 zone.
And both teams are going to change their defenses, forced the offense to adjust.
Anderson, A long three.
He's really growing up here.
It's five already for Kevin Anderson.
Again, the pressure causes another turnover.
You've got to come and meet that pass basket.
And he saw they're going along.
He does a super job of taking the ball to the basket there.
Again, I said, they're like Noah's Ark.
They have to have everything.
They bring it and it gives you a stronger version of Kevin Anderson.
It's a way to take the ball strong.
Don't worry about getting your shot.
BLOCK Go up strong and a strong shoulder.
Keep ball you in the man principle.
Head up, watch the ball, go through the net.
Jonathan has this guy off the bench for good Field Academy left and well, when he comes in the game he brings up the defensive intensity.
He is the defensive stopper for this Woodfield Academy team.
He gets deceptively strong, hands free to not making that free throw didn't allow Webster to set up in their press watch a drive.
what a follow by Danny friend.
Does that make a lot of friends and it he's playing like that and now supports the right system turning up their defensive intensity.
That's Collin Wittig, a69 freshman handling the ball.
It's the high screen from the top of that zone.
Baskerville long to the corner.
I'm sorry, but they were two rebounds with Brandon Reed I like he's the best young player in the tournament just a62 freshman had five points against West Wilkins in finding Simmons and a turnover by software Salina Christian So how does it feel Howard double dribble great play by Collin ready to come out there and guard razzle dazzle on the perimeter.
Well the cold shooting has really affected southwest here on the Christian right now of course a lot of that has to do with the pressure again and late.
If you're wrong, you don't have to close out as far defensively two three zone as Northwestern and the Christian they're screening that top man of the zone and running a read on the perimeter Anderson with a kick out the three that's a big time play by Kevin Anderson.
What you want to do as a guard in any zone is you want to drive, draw and then dish, make two people play and then kick to the open.
Man.
Really good.
Five quick points in the first quarter and all of them point Richfield made long three and hits big shot by lots.
You got to get better defensive transition you can't wait after the score three inside in the big boy he's down a flag look for southwest later Christian to get the ball on to Crittendon he hasn't handled the ball much in this first quarter is going to to him every chance they get for he can get rid of it and I'll go to Whitfield Academy, Dorian Smith with a shot near the 32nd mark in the first quarter.
John, from high good charge again, he took that charge, Danny stranded outside the lane.
That's where you got to get that charge.
If you get it inside the lane, more likely it's going to be a block.
And so southwest, a lot of pressure and we'll get one last chance before the end of the first quarter to get some points on the board, which is doing a nice job and Tim Burton and gives it up and makes it really tough for him to get it back.
House is doing an outstanding job defensively and Terry and Smith are steps again now.
They put the ball in another player's hands defensively Good feel did other than Crittenton getting it so again they want the guy they want to shoot the ball big and Smith got I think a great move by Cameron Jackson to blame Hassan and it's almost as if he's going to be shadowing Javaris the rest of the game.
Anderson at the buzzer.
That's been the key to the first half.
Anderson's ability to drive.
he's got a good one tucked in here at the Lincoln Center.
Plugs Woodfield Academy on 21 points in the first quarter and they lead 21 to 9 as we head into the second quarter here from the making center blocks.
And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.
This is a whole new look at inspiration.

The legends of 1950s and early sixties Pop returned to the PBS stage in an all new My Music special to spend one night with in our home Wednesday at 730 on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station Whitfield Academy up by 12 at the Boys Class, a state championship game and Whitfield Academy shooting lights out.
So far, so handsome.
A lot of those points, though, are coming on.
Anderson's drives.
I mean, he's making they're making layups or he's kicking out for an easy 15 footer.
But still, the academy will get possession to begin the second quarter.
Anderson Davids in the game for Griffin Academy because little place on the perimeter and Johnson's on the bench early but he'll play ten off the bench and five off the bench ten total inside Kelvin McConnell was fouled.
Now, he couldn't have made that play last year, but he's really growing up.
Kelvin McConnell, is he got the defender up in the air defensively you never want to leave your feet 14 foul and what's that his second quarter McConnell got a few schools interested in him very very stable Mexico state no doubt restive.
He wants to so certainly now handling the basketball well look for Witsel academy to make him give it up and then not let him get it back.
They will not let him have the middle at all.
He'd love to penetrate down the middle, just start to get asked.
And David's shadowing and Davids is right in his sense, fitting in.
And the rebound by Southwest Atlanta Christian's Jared Hartley, who Martin He is the swingman in this team for this year, the Academy.
He's big enough to play the bigs for Southwest on attrition defensively, but he's quick enough to play on the perimeter offensively.
That's his first field goal of the afternoon.
What's penetrates inside the friend?
Nice job, Danny.
Good Solid four points for Danny Friends and all that.
A bounce back to the Wolfpack defense the transition Southwest electricity has got to get back quicker because Whitfield After a score is getting it one two passes and they're going to score know will get a rest.
Jeffrey Dean in the game for Whitfield Academy right Little spark very good role player passes the ball extremely well way and a whistle inside blocking foul looks to be on Julian Hartley.
you hate that there's a possibility get a four point play too that you didn't get and now you have to play defense.
Here's a turnover, Anderson blocked by continuing well gathered up by Jack Eisenhower.
Here's Omar Pruitt.
They're going 94 feet.
John gets the old academy.
Look at the answer.
And a routine foul on Jahvaris Pittman.
You got to be strong with that basketball.
And Anderson is going to take that thing in it and be strong.
Ball you in the man for Jameer house come in in the game to get him out so and battling the ball for self for which in accounting Johnson has six at the end you Martin with the basketball perhaps Whitfield's best offensive player not according to his coach Tom Johnson coming off the screen quick to cut him off 15 and the low post tell him he's very patient knocked away and Quitman playing at all three on two Eric what's he got to go out and get him in a three on to the top man stops the ball the bottom the guy's got to get the first pass ISO they are good by Dennard Huntley You've got to stop the basketball.
You can not allow penetration and they pressured by Ritchie almost a turnover Here's Danny Fred with a spin move and the foul many friends having a good game both defenses for Whitfield Academy and for southwest L.A. Christian are doing a nice job of pushing the offense further from the basket.
Now with that affects is spacing and timing and floor balance.
Second foul on Jonathan Haas has been he still makes his first friend that was injured most of the season last year was a factor in his foot, never really got healthy.
He's finally healthy this year and he's been the second scoring option for the wolves, averaging 17 points per game.
Thank you, Bill.
In the game.
Now, speaking before the game, nine point Wolfpack lead then to one's own Anderson picks from outside his lane his little arms allows him to play bigger than he is He is a playmaker for that team.
What a beautiful pass by watch Brooks friend unable to handle it and will go to the Wolfpack again.
Pressure caused that turnover Just relax and run your offense from the fans here from Mapleton team down I-75.
Well we definitely had a good crowd.
Both Atlanta metro area teams both travel well.
Anderson, That beautiful pass to McConnell.
McConnell Not this time.
Flynn chases down the loose ball.
Well, bringing it up now it gets into the hands of Crittendon, who's looking to penetrate.
Has it knocked away by McConnell?
You don't have numbers.
Pull it back.
McConnell Not this time.
Baskerville Fighting for the rebound soon blocks it into a jump ball and will go to the Warriors, a Southwestern Christian.
I know Coach Johnson probably loved to have that possession back.
He just really didn't have numbers.
Pull that ball back and run that little delay offense that you just implemented.
The last possession down where the post is going to screen for the wings, then roll to the block.
Take a look at Eric Anderson.
So he's a playmaking point guard.
As deep as the how your Howard hits a jumper.
He's a very good player.
I like his game inside Baskerville.
He took steps.
You got to be ready to score and there he may not be ready for that play in this game just yet.
He's got to get his feel for the game, he said.
To see that Kevin Anderson has a little better game than Mr. Pittman and Port Gibson.
He can do a good job denying finding Olivier needing to.
Hazel Howard and Danny Freed to step up and Beagle scoring.
Absolutely.
Exactly right.
The Crittendon he's got to get the ball.
I mean, if he's a big time player, you've got to get the ball.
And they're defending to you, then you've got to run him off screens or you're not being guarded.
Go screen.
The guy loves to up his footing and trying to work inside franchise to tip it in this put his side inside.
Cameron Baskerville will be his first but look for some versatility Christian try to get it inside to Pruitt his friend and Howard allows you to play inside and outside with his athleticism.
Omar Pruitt nine points, nine rebounds are his averages for the season.
Coach Brooks calls him the team's rock solid rebounding defender.
So to play JV ball last year and he came to the varsity level here little bit of the time adjusting and least Coach Brooks says he's adjusted well in the second half three steady now back then rebound by the freshman and it was Pruitt there really put selfless around and puts him over the top in the semifinal game against Randolph Clay made some big free throws Anderson penetrates and tried to feed it to Denard Huntley and goes out of bounds.
And that's going to be a bounce pass.
Any pass to the post needs to be a bounce pass.
We've talked about Southwest and Christian college shooting so far.
Jahvaris cutting in only one as follows from the field.
Little bit of time getting the Texas little guys.
You saw some jumpers up there looking to penetrate on Anderson there to help with McConnell there.
Kirtland finally hits a second field goal Nice job of elevating to shoot five points and assisted in cutting them South Coast line, crossing the line to chip away at that lead a turnover high school Howard and he's fouled it looks like McConnell on the reach in that as a frustration tie that's strip down here on the offensive end of the floor then defensively head to head the week Rick reach Tobias Crittenton averages 30 points per game for four today for the McDonald's all-American playing in his final high school game.
He's no nothing but going to the finals.
He's got a state championship ring from two years ago.
But when he gets the rebounds, he's looking to score.
He does see this is where they're going to exploit.
WHITFIELD Academy is on the board with their size, even though on paper this year, the college team is so young, they got ten players, but they're freshmen.
Another forced turnover by the Warriors Johnson High School out of bounds and the first time out here again.
And that's a really good timeout by the Ridgefield Academy Warriors.
The maroon clad fans and sophomore Selena Christian are standing in appreciation and their will will come back on down by six.
WHITFIELD Academy has got to get tempo and more of a frenetic pace, especially in the halfcourt end of the floor.
If not, then southwest Atlanta Christian going to be able to come down and then post up bigger bodies on WHITFIELD an eight run for Southwest Lane Christian.
And as we were there so we witnessed this Randolph plays 90 game win streak was snapped by the Warriors a little revenge too for last year's state title game.
You're right but you got to take your hat off to coach Joe Williams and Randolph play.
yeah, 90 and one.
My goodness.
And that's companionable.
And do you see yourself still working when you're in your seventies?
I hope so back to young working seventies.
I recall.
He's a good guy, great guy.
We need more coaches like him.
What's the pass on him?
Here's commitment.
He's looking for that lane to penetrate draws the foul and Redick we're there Javaris is like a train Once he gets going it's often hard to stop him I mean you got to limit his touches but again now he's starting to handle the ball more.
Whether he's shooting it or passing it with the ball in his hand is creating a lot of attention from the Whitfield Academy defense, which is freeing up his teammates to score six five total point guard.
And his favorite player is Magic Johnson.
He was four years old when Magic retired, and that's okay.
My grandmother bought me a Magic Johnson video tape and I've been watching it ever since.
He was a great player.
You see a little magic?
No, look, pass this thing already today.
This will try to run some screws to free up the perimeter.
We battle for it inside.
He chases it down, but right into the hands of Eric Roberts.
He hasn't knocked away the do.
Not hardly.
Then you know when he save the ball on the EuroBasket due to the fact that creates a turnover on the other end, you get the feeling of intensity.
He's coming up to us a little bit.
Well, Southwest Atlanta Christian's physicality is now starting to come into play.
Creighton in Inside Rebound by Pruitt.
It's been a long night for Whitfield.
If they can't control the boards it's a one point game Good shot academy and a double digit lead at the end of the first quarter.
Southwest Atlantic Christian picking up the intensity using their size to wear down this young Wolfpack team called ready That's six nine and there's hawks inside for the board big stick back by Jonathan Sullivan Southwest alone and Christian bring it up Crittendon with a fadeaway get it inside his friend still battling for Fred and they'll go to the Wolfpack Southwest officials ability to rebound is allowing Sidney he can go one on five and then if he misses the Southwest is getting 1 to 3 cracks at it.
And it's again you cannot allow your opponent multiple chances down the floor offensively trouble McConnell checks back in for the Wolfpack in the 33 he's been playing from three point range Well you could see zone by southwest location looking for the student athlete telling Henderson on the baseline and throw it with a big rebound It's the the what's and what's the come in that's a big time dunk he's the rim the block the defenders in and I'm sure the yellow jacket nation back in the arena look forward to seeing that when he puts in that tech uniform that dunk also put him in double figures McCollum he's called from three point range his commitment to the two on to foul by Baskerville Whitfield's got to grab their composure They're a little impatient now now watch this great pass reverse dunk and way to get up in the air There's super job of using the rim there by defenders in again both these teams score in bunches they like to apply pressure they like that tempo going up and down.
The teams that press score in bunches next year.
Devils couldn't know where to go to the might of Georgia Tech.
I'll tell you the yellow jackets they're used in this year, but they're going to go get a dandy one next year.
It's going to be interesting to see how his game transfers in the SCC.
He told me he's already studied film.
Some of his opponents in the SCC, Sean Singletary and Bobby Frazier and and that for a talented young guards that are in the SCC right now who will get a wake up call he makes his first trip to Cameron Indoor stadium in the College Park Maryland to the top of buildings in the SCC.
So forget Chapel Hill here's McConnell at the buzzer what a second quarter in this one Southwest Atlanta Christian with the comeback the girls winning the state championship the boys one as well.
Let's go down to Scott Kels Laskey here coach I got to tell you, you guys came back what are you going to tell your kids at halftime after that feverish comeback?
we just got to keep our intensity level up and continue to execute in the half court.
We play started out a little bit too fast and got a little got a little in a funk, a little bit there.
But just keep the intensity level, execute the half court, stay in their face defensively.
Good luck.
Best of luck in the second half of the quarter.
But the first half is an indication.
The second half should be awesome.
But we're at halftime, we're tied at 32.
Back after this.

Halftime of the Boys single-A Championship, Southwest Atlantic Christian 32 WHITFIELD Academy 32.
A big tie going on.
Great games going on here on GPB all day long.
Hope you're enjoying championship weekend as it rolls on.
Okay.
We'll go downstairs now to Scott Kozlowski.
Scott, how does it feel to be in the principal's office?
That's that's exactly right.
I'm here with Principal Geraldine Thompson from Southwest Christian Academy and headmaster Tim Hillen from Whitfield Academy.
First of all, let's talk to Geraldine.
You were here just a few minutes ago talking in the middle of the girls game.
You guys pulled it out.
Tell me how that felt.
it felt excellent.
We expected to win.
We're good at coming from behind, and we've done that throughout the year.
So we were excited to see them.
We're talking about excited the coach.
After the game.
He was in tears.
It it was fun to watch.
Tell me a little bit about Coach.
Coach has been with us now for two years and he's done an excellent job.
It's a matter of fact, he's been the one who has pushed the girls ahead and has worked day and night.
Last night he even went back to Atlanta so that he can study the stats as well as the videos of previous games.
So he's just excellent.
Well, next year, you're going to be losing a great player to Georgia Tech and Javaris Crittenton.
That's.
Tell me a little bit about him if you know what he might be studying at Georgia Tech and what kind of student is that kind of thing?
Well, I can say what kind of student he is.
He is an excellent student who has taken all of the difficult courses, including AP and International studies.
He's a part of the prep college prep portion of our school, and he has just done an excellent job, is very diligent at inspiring others.
Well, congratulations on your earlier win and good luck in this one.
Let me turn now over to Tim Helen, headmaster at Winfield excuse me, Academy.
I was talking to her a little bit about these are preparatory schools.
All these students are fantastic.
Since you only have 235 high school students at your school and you've been here three out of the last four years.
Tell me about that.
Well, I think really that's true and that's our commitment.
You know, we have a motto at the school is work hard and play hard and honor him.
And part of the working hard is in the classroom and on the basketball court.
So they do work hard.
Their college prep school kids are all going to college, of course, and they're going to some outstanding colleges.
And I think what you see on the court, by the way, is a reflection of the both the working hard and the playing hard.
Tell me a little bit about your coaching.
You know, obviously that has a lot to do with it, too.
It's not you're not coming from a big pool of talent.
Talk about your head coach.
We can't underestimate our coach and coach Johnson and his staff really is what makes a difference.
When you have a fairly small student body like we do.
You have to have good coaching.
And good coaching seems to work well with some quality players.
So we take the giftedness of the players.
Coach Johnson works real well with them and we've seen the results in the last several years under his leadership.
Thank you both very much for joining us.
Let's go back to Jim.
Thank you.
Hi.
Thank you, Scott.
So we get ready for the second half and we go downstairs to John Wilkerson and Phil Handsome.
Thank you, Jim.
And, you know, when you get in these big games like this, you need your stars to come out and really take control of the game.
Jahvaris Crittendon has right now for Southwest Atlanta Christian Kelvin McConnell has struggled, really hasn't found a shot yet.
Well, he's been in many to hit his stride yet.
But the biggest thing he's got to come and get the ball.
I mean, then come off screens and they got a screen for him and then look to be an impact player in the in the second half.
Crittenton, on the other hand, has started off slow but then really got going due to dribble penetration and some stick backs and then the physicality of the inside play of Southwest Atlanta Christian with friend and Howard and Pruitt has really rose to the occasion here in the second quarter.
WHITFIELD Academy Road out to that big lead in the semifinals.
And we're able to maintain it, although we're tied here at halftime.
There's Kevin Anderson.
Thank God for him because he is kept in the game.
He's got a super job to penetrate and kick into the open man, Anderson, with this three point basket here, He has been the outside shooter.
He's the playmaker for Whitfield Academy.
And speaking of playmakers for Watch, he's finally got confidence in his shot.
His coach, Anthony Brooks, told him, you got to take some big shots inside and he got some confidence.
And then there's Javaris Crittenton with the dribble and the drive and Kriteman With the big time dunk in the second quarter and the stats pretty much reflect a close game and that's what we have from them.
Well, free throws five of ten.
I know Southwest little Christian would want that higher and then you got your turnovers five and eight and that's basically due to the defensive pressure that Southwest Atlanta Christian has been able to apply create in the eight turnovers and that's where they were able to produce their points to get back in the game.
They got 12 and eight points off turnovers as far as threatening with ten points.
Kevin Anderson with ten points for Winfield Academy.
The second half is coming up from the making center place.
We are tied at 32 and their boys class, a state title game.
Even after 37 years, it's still fresh across all cream rocks for super group is back.

Get ready to start the third quarter here at the Macon Center plex.
We're tied at 32 and the boys class single state championship game and standing by with Whitfield Academy head coach Tyron Johnson and Scott Kozlowski.
Thank you very much, John.
Coach tie ball game.
Now, you had a little bit of a lead there in the first half.
What did you tell your team at halftime?
What the main thing is that, I mean, we've asked you to wail on offensive end.
We've been able to switch defenses, but we have not taken care of the backside on offense.
On offense.
GLASS And that has caused us I mean, that's basically how we lost the lead.
We were laughing and coming up on the backside when shots were taken by Jahvaris, we was taking on a strong side and we simply didn't have anybody to man up on the backside.
So they've been at a crawl by game.
Thank you very much and good luck in the second half.
You think, everybody Scott Southwest, Atlanta Christian.
They won the state title two years ago in the state title game, the last four years, Javaris Crittenton, ten points, two eight rebounds and assists average just eight points a game.
And he's starting to feel it.
He's starting to get rolling.
And when he did it on the one dribble penetration where he got the layup and he hit the shot off the offense.
What I really liked about it was when he kicked off make that pass.
Now this kid right here, Kevin Anderson, is that great job of keeping Ridgefield Academy in the game via his dribble penetration, picking to the offensive man.
He has got to keep them going if they're going to stay in this thing in the second half.
Southwest Atlanta Christian finished the first half on a 14 two run as we have our tie score at 32 Portland with ten Anderson with ten for continuing to shoot ten for Woodfield Academy.
The only two players right now in double figures.
So you can almost say that the growth has been spread in this one.
Help us.
Lenny Christian is in a1310 should be a dandy Second half, both teams playing for a state championship.
It'll be the second for either school which should one of the 2003 two years ago was supposed to be Christian's turn and they beat this Whitfield fealty and that title Patience and Intensity is a key factor for this game.
MCCONNELL He has been called he was tightly kicked out back for McConnell drive by Hugh Martin not there but Huntley with a fouled and a foul inside which they did a nice job of running a two zone attack bringing the backside cutters through the middle of the zone and then he can't be skipped before to high or Howard with his second foul today Denard Hartley at the line hardly a natural point guard but he's so physically strong, not afraid contact that time.
Ron Johnson wants to play him in all five positions.
He's got the body to do it.
There's a 3.2 grade point average as well, which will pick him over the minimum ten.
Then try to force the pass inside to Howard, has it not intercepted by Huntley?
There's one handed passes.
You can't bring the ball back and the defense adjusts Anderson by point play guard Kevin Anderson has lit up the scoreboard so far.
That's 12.
It's 14 for the junior Howard Beautiful pass inside the material extra job driving in the middle of the game and making that bounce pass the ball It's an academy score in the lead as Huntley looks to has your Howard on him Anderson gets it inside the deal and Dean can't hit but he gets the putback Excellent job by Martin to keep that ball alive which sealed academy coming off in the second half.
I would say academy opens in the free throw line and rebound by McConnell long outlet the mountain there's Anderson that kid is everywhere the ubiquitous Kevin Anderson threatening still not not able to penetrate intercepted called on the region.
I don't want to reach by defense with your feet.
Keep your chest square with him.
Keep your head in your shoulder, blow your opponent.
This is the second game in a row that Tobias Crittenton has not been able to find those lanes to penetrate.
Well, that's due to speed skills, kills, drills.
But when he's driving in the lane, Winfield Academy is doing a nice job of pinching the middle frame with a beautiful pass the watch and has it blocked by Huntley.
WHITFIELD Pushing up the floor tonight.
HARTLEY The backside of that defense is to get hurt by the field academy.
That is, if dribble penetration was allowed by Southwest when the Christian Wolfpack come out running reestablish command.
Here's Crittendon not there.
And Dean, with the rebound, McConnell will take the shot still hasn't found it from three point range.
Furman looking for that lane penetrate fouled either by Dean or Hartley.
Pittman's ability to take the ball to the basket is going to be allowing him to pick up a lot of cheap fouls in a split field academy.
Hartley tied his second foul South whistle and a Christian maintains possession open his watch for him for the rebound as McConnell D beats the defense on the floor.
I don't know if that's the pass you want to go there with that is that you're putting Jeffrey Dean going head to head with Danny Garza Howard and that's a mismatch southwest Atlanta Christian shooting 20% while Woodford Academy 57%.
They've come out hot.
Meanwhile, John Howard committed his third foul in as well, scoring options now in foul trouble.
But the high screen Baskerville the deed on the low post and Howard with the rebound what a great steal by McConnell he's fouled by Sean you've got to come back to the ball you just wait the defensive man is going to shoot the gaps You got to be impressed with Kevin McCollum.
His offensive game is not there but he's he hasn't left the game.
He just made a big play on defense.
Well, that's what big time winners do.
They don't just if they're not shooting well, decide you're going to hang their head and call it a night.
I mean, you got to come in there and pick your team up in other ways, which makes this the greatest game because you have to do a lot of things offensively, defensively, shoot, Dribble Pass is an 86% free throw.
Shooting carries a three point grade point average to give Howard to hustle.
Howard will sit down all seven players, Carmelo Anthony a no brainer here he likes the Denver Nuggets one, 211.
Press now in communication with the Academy.
What's to double teams they got to do is pass the pass beautiful pass inside to Prewitt knocked out of bounds by Hartley and stay just below it since that pressure you want to take the ball to the sidelines, go to the middle and skip in opposite diagonal or opposite low 11 point wolfpack.
We saw the shot on Wittman from three point range.
Nice play by textbook.
Might be the spark to get the Warriors back into the game.
Here's McConnell.
Here's a pass to Dean.
It's a two pointer and that's where you want to get just the game, the ball in space where he can get his feet set.
Well, that pass got to get picked off nearly three, threading the needle there with those passes in the middle for off the pulse as rookie floating a little lofty pass that was going to take it more name there's one inside the ceiling that was a big shot what big time player stepped up in big time games.
And it's almost to the point where Jahvaris is saying, Boys, get on my back.
I want this title.
McConnell finally hits a jumper and they take the ball to one side.
Look middle Southwestern person do or one basketball after that dance.
Certainly already was 16 points for the Warriors Now substitution zone for Whitfield Academy.
Anderson back in Brandon Reed for the first two.
Well lamb checks in in the 42 for southwest Atlanta coaching Danny Flynn.
He can play on the offensive rebound, dig down by basket.
They're not fighting for possession.
Great job by House.
The guards coming the high below his shoulder to see that outlet pass back wide open it quick deal with an offensive board.
Find the inside basketball had it and now it goes in the hands of the warriors and Jamal's treatment has it knocked away by Anderson but today is a cool to have Jimmy Stewart as well He's talked about just getting the game at a frenetic pace in the half court said definitely benefits Whitfield Academy.
Anderson took steps trying to drive the baseline but if they allow Whitfield Academy to come down and run their sets, it's going to be advantageous to Southwest win officially.
And you got to think this way.
Tyler Johnson substitutes bench.
He's going to have fresh legs coming in, especially in the fourth quarter and another turnover.
You can't throw that loosey pass in the middle that the athletes are too good to go pick that off Hugh Martin and high stuck in the drive he stepped on the wall to go back to the Warriors.
Well, there's really no way for him to go I mean, if you go baseline, you're getting yourself into a pickle there because that now the baseline becomes a defender.
There's no space.
Every offense he's facing for balance and timing and time out on the floor.
Both teams want to settle down.
Well this game can also be viewed live on their GP Internet site around the world at WW w dot gpb dot org.

A very good ball game here at the Macon Cineplex, 4940 after this.
It's the girls Double-A state championship game, Georgia, Greater Atlanta, Christian and Wesleyan, who almost say it's a battle Moore Cross and that one so go across gets a state championship be the way Hey girls Double-A look forward to that one You take a look at Javaris Crittenton 16 points already.
He's starting to sealer.
He's had two big three pointers to tie against the Southwest Atlantic Christian Rome, which you did a nice job.
He showed the one two that after the first pass picked up man to man pass all over Trenton.
And he has been all afternoon.
He's been in the game for him to hit the gimme.
And Collin Little I'm sorry Cameron basketball comes around with the ball so he takes steps in the backfield even though the basketball had to turn over there.
I really like the way he's playing with his intensity.
He's changing the game defensively, rebounding on the offense and defense, spending the floor, then saying he's been called Eric Watts.
Great challenge on that shot.
And Hugh Martin with the rebound, it took him a little while to get his feet wet.
The championship game has been a fresh one on under to a missouri high screen.
And Roy Baskerville, challenged by Joel LAMB and lamb, converted the loose ball.
And now both teams suddenly realize what's at stake as we near the end of the third quarter.
Great defensive key by house he is with those defensive stoppers LAMB flies in the face don't try to play and Jojo Howard knocked away juice continues Kevin Anderson looking and finally here they're going to penetrate has it knocked away twice throws it up can go to Ryan 60 features again John Burris is allowed to penetrate that deep in the lane good things are going to happen to southwest when a Christian because we feel Cam is going to have to rotate inside out from the hill which is going to expose the baseline.
Simmons, a 70% superior shooter, Omar Pruitt, checks in number 45 for southwest Atlanta Christian McConnell cover McConnell comes back in for Whitfield.
Both coaches are doing a great job of utilizing their bench to keep fresh legs in the game tonight, hardly pushing the ball up the floor for Whitfield up 4942 Hill Martin with a drive block this time Thanksgiving Freeman out of bounds on a stay with Whitfield Academy but I tell you both teams are selling out for every loose ball.
That's how it should be.
Mark he's got to stay on this, pass the Martin and Martin looking to drive on Omar Pruitt.
Nice shot.
Good.
Nice catch.
You know, Hartley has a tough pass under a minute in the third 09.
Whitfield Academy League Here's cretin with a spin move as a block by Baskerville playing really big in the second half.
Here's Anderson He's had a big game for the Wolfpack and it continues You can see that's an assist for basketball the block and his activity around the basket is really turning the tide.
WHITFIELD Up by 11, three under 30 seconds.
How has your Howard hits and the foul?
The very steady player, John?
Yes, your high school, Howard is the younger brother of Dwight Howard.
The great move, very steady, very underrated ball handler.
He handles the ball very well.
Good.
Gives you a good secondary handle.
Plus, he can pull up and score that 50 footer.
What is?
Peter said he can shoot the three.
He improves his ball handling skills over the summer, just hanging out with his brother Dwight.
Remember he was a heck of a ball handler for his size at 611 and also a shooting and it seems it paid dividends.
Definitely a much better player this read great baseline pass and back and down really can't hit here comes Creighton and has all the way he's fouled back the basket Kevin Anderson another thing I thought he got fouled before he went up but every now and then they'll allow the continuation of the ball get great elevation.
He's a big time slasher.
John that make those free throws foul so the loose ball and read and eyesore Howard and the ball go to southwest Atlanta Christian on the alternating possession You get that rebound John you got to turn to the outside if you turn to the inside that's where all the traffic is supposed to land Christian have 6 seconds timeout and Courtney Brooks wants a timeout Well you can feel it but Southwest allowing Christian per game to make it a little bit of a run as they try to win their second state championship and me a second of the day for the Warriors the lady warriors won earlier today over Atkinson County, Georgia's longest running weekly high school sports and academics program prep sports.
Plus, each week you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports.
Plus, it's returning Thursday, March 23rd at 7:30 p.m. exclusively on GPB with 6 seconds here, John, They got enough time to catch it and look for a quick shot inside or watch the lob right off the bat.
Throw it inside.
Has it not by Baskerville or by calling Reddick.
And they go to the line, the sheets of free throws.
Again.
He went up to set that screen and rolled right back to the ball.
And the guy I like it to that good food, selfless.
A lot of Christians maybe to get some points on the clock, stop that six five junior Omar pull it.
Yeah this rebound is big 1 to 2 for Omar Little Southwest rally Christian the track right over halfcourt Anderson here's Reed he'll stay a solid at 5348 and my goodness we're getting to the fourth quarter.
We got a close ballgame here at the Making Center place for the boys class, a state championship in Houston.
And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.

Coming soon to Georgia Public Broadcasting, I send you the love, my sense as I can.

My lack of walk in the rain watch.
John Denver, a song's best friend as a Tuesday at 730 on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station Whitfield Academy, up 5348.
As we head to the fourth quarter of the boys class single-A state championship game, There's the chili for surplus, a little Christine, the Wolf Pack kid bear to watch this.
It's getting that good here at the Macon Cineplex.
Man to man by southwest Atlanta Christian.
They a cut really hard to the ball.
Be strong and have courage Crittenton with 20 points Javaris Pittman for south for Solomon Christian Kevin Anderson with the ball only with 17 and he'll go to the line He is so fast with the basketball Kevin Anderson is just a junior I'll tell you Tyrone Johnson did nothing but praise him.
I talked to him on Friday and how his game is just stepped up from the JV level to he got here to the varsity.
He's a tough kid to say that players Allen Iverson and you see in the air here today, he definitely can take the ball to the basket.
3...
I would say the class is biology.
The pressure in the back court by the this back, there's a flex offense.
They're going to have a cross screen and a down screen on the same side of the on the opposite side of Gordon the ball and they're looking to penetrate what's going to for that pass And here's Anderson in the defense but the pass is too strong and Crittenton with a baseball pass over to Pruitt and he turns it over.
Hugh Martin, possessions are such a key now down the stretch.
You just don't want to throw them away.
Not hardly.
With those runners spread attack, trying to get dribble penetration Ding has a blocked by Danny Froines they think that the long arms deceptive Paul Brady on the floor has long arms Hugh Martin inbounds so you just sense potential is there a shoot out highly inside the sub to house you a Howard that's number four on the high school Howard you want to go up in back with your hands up and back with your hands.
but hardly gives you that luxury.
He's able to go inside and outside.
Do the fact that he's a strong kid, partly now in double figures.
And you know, Tyrone Johnson calling his most aggressive, playing so little aggressiveness inside, receiving an inbound pass and and challenging the big guys inside is a 3.2 grade point average for the closest match and he racked up two in man to man by Whitfield You guys kind of got a sense of southwest Atlantic coast needs to put together one here is an ISO for in ball beautiful move inside towards the side there's no doubt he's a McDonald's all-American he's got a strong story by now You never if you're going to follow, don't let him get his teams above his shoulders.
But he's just a bigger, stronger player than Anderson.
Now you got to get that helps.
Got to come and seal off that baseline.
Can't give up that you think The old jacket fans smiled when they saw that they liked the penetration It is point guard you five point need for the wolfpack the double ball in the corner Hartley here's Anderson that's how big three Tim Anderson has been the offensive threat all day for Whitfield academy Pruitt able to handle that pass Jack was all over him and will stay with the Warriors.
Every time Whitfield's able to score, then they are able to dictate the tempo defensively.
However, if they turn it over and miss a shot, then it's flipped.
On the other side of southwest Atlanta, Christian and can dictate the tempo.
McConnell Kriteman Inside that's Danny Strand and help draw the foul and over line and you have a penetration is causing that, whether it's from Anderson Phillips Academy or Crittenton or Southeastern Christian, if you're able to drive into that lane, you're going to attract so much attention that you're going to free up your teammates.
In this case, Fred had an open layup last night.
Danny Friend emerged as that second scoring option for Southwest.
First, the only question this year, he was healthy all year at this after having a stress in his foot all his junior year six five senior Courtney Judge thinks that press snap forced a turnover watch on Kevin Anderson during the week on the perimeter screening for the Raiders.
Down low pop to the elbows Priscilla Kelly running some thought partly to hide and get back.
They've got to get back to it running the bridge Howard on Jeffrey Dean.
Look at that move a four point game in southwest L.A. Christian like they did in the second quarter, chipping away at the Wolfpack lead walk.
The new Martin took steps.
Whoever scores is dictating the tempo on the flip side of the ball and on the other end of the floor defensively.
And you don't like this tempo, though, for Southwest L.A. Christian, due to the fact that they're bigger and they're more physical.
Speaking of top point guards, Jahvaris Pittman, six five, senior, he's been to the title game for four years.
He went to secondary to Martin with the rebounds two on one.
McConnell That's a three pointer today.
You can get threes in transition due to the fact that the defense doesn't have time to adjust to it.
He's a passing cybercriminal now.
You can't stop that.
He's just bigger than anything.
We'll post him all day long.
I get the sense that Jahvaris continues telling his teammates to come on my back.
This guy, Kevin Anderson, has been the playmaker all afternoon for the Wolfpack.
Here's Huntley to Howard on him.
And Dean left open battle for the ball.
Omar Pruitt has a stripped away partly great play by got the timeout but there was Kevin Anderson that started that new lane getting his hand on the initial rebound.
So for Tyrone Johnson Lee telling the team right now.
All right let's first of all this went out of bounds play and don't take the first quick shot we have.
Again, we're up in this game and the clock now becomes our ally.
Let's bring the ball out, make them chase and spread them out a little bit.
Now where we can ease our dribble penetration via Anderson or Hartley could split them Flipside Coach Brooks to say look you got to clamp down try to get a quick steal If not play that solid DBS, get it up, become again, get it to Boris and get out of his way so he can drive or score and take a look at the blue crew from Midfield Academy.
You tell me great numbers from Ableton right behind us is the Southwest Atlantic Christian fans and they've had a long day already.
Girls win the state championship.
The boys now trailing right now, but the Lady Warriors did in the fourth quarter as well and came back, Kevin Anderson, with 21 points on the day.
Good patience.
Watts knocks it away still battling for big get up to walk move to speak and then call a jump ball or go to Southwest.
The only question, Nancy, and then you have control of it.
Well, both teams now totally selling out.
The state championship is less than 4 minutes away.
They've got to have some help side footing in trying to penetrate.
Anderson comes out with a loose forward play.
It's a smart play, partly Dean, who's had a hit some big shots in the fourth quarter tip no good by Martin and they'll be tied with the foul as he and Eric watch are battling for the ball during the bonus so shooting free throws that's the fourth foul on Hugh Martin that'll bring Eric Watts to the line 511 JR He's a 75% free for a serious human You sit on the bench basketball in the game from Martin right there was watch his three point shot with a minute 15 left in the semifinal against Randolph play that gave the Warriors the win put them in the title game of basketball.
Only Christian ended one off players on the game winning streak 6259.
He's been staying with his confidence, the shooting confidence throughout the year that he's found it in the second half of season clutch with a couple of clutch free throws and coming to the ball.
85 point deficit.
Nice three.
I'm a Palo.
You never see that entry pass.
You don't want to touch that ball below the second most.
William Bennett threw a ton over the football and did sack this talented person with another chance to chip away at this lead.
As we near the three minute mark, we're looking to post Brittney Hartley with a great defense.
He's calling the foul, hardly trying to create a turnover zone.
Police are going to ask Pittman.
Look at that over and back.
That's the third foul on and you know it hardly the fans are starting to add up for the good side of Kevin Wolf.
Back to Forest Crittenton, a 70% free throw shooter and a couple of biggies.
Remember back in 2003, the first cut in the freshman, three, six points today, already struggled, but will be amid the bright lights of a big game like that.
Got to know was only 14 years old.
No.
Two in a trip So he gets the ball well you got a rebound tip good by Danny form and we are tied McConnell you cannot leave your feet John that was that got to be three shots out of you in the second run and I go in for Lisa.
I didn't think I was going to shoot the ball and then at the last minute we knew was going to get hacked through it up this third right now, he's done that the last three times.
Every time he catches it on the perimeter, he'll headbutt ball, fake you and get you up very like 18 day even you stayed sound.
Eric Roberts is a blast from the past and I'm under three to give him a two point lead McConnell 86% free throw shooting 38 to 44 coming into this game the two point lead for which the 1211 press and they're going to match to man to man rhythm and all through it comes out now I've been on treatment and that's been a big match up all afternoon fans are asking your your Howard short Hartley with the rebound there's McConnell beating the defense down the floor.
That's a big time move and McConnell now starting to heat up late in the game right when the wolfpack needs another beautiful pass.
The friend on his side and then what a foul guy in a layup.
Cameron Baskerville commits the personal that's a freshman mistake they got him with the body up with the correct hand.
He took his inside hand, went over his outside shoulder, but he got him with the body.
A quiet 12 points for Danny Friend this afternoon and two big free throws, solid six say one big free throw green odd numbers.
Now as we near the two minute mark, but a pass move, Anderson, was in trouble and threatened with the steal.
Well, go to the line to shoot free throws.
Jonathan Haas commits the foul Southwest indications defense did a nice job of pushing Ridgefield Academy further and further from the basket which messed up their spacing They got nine got 45 guys and three feet of space.
Was it that play doing from the start when Hodge picked up his dribble right by the center court circle also?
Yes.
But when written picked up, Anderson would let him get the ball.
That's when it started going out of whack.
His free throws for the lead.
He's got to make those free throws.
He's got to handle the ball that much.
Anderson Cut off by Pruitt and to the time high Matt excellent time out and we're getting to this point in the game when possessions are precious because of the finality of it all.
I mean, right now we got 142 to play.
And when we look up at the clock again, it'll be 136, 131 and then it's over.
So you've got to make the most out of every possession offensively and defensively down the floor.
The ball is gold you got to evaluate.
Tell them McConnell has picked a good time in the game.
They start heating up.
He did.
That was a wonderful spin move.
But he's got to come to the ball and be a more of a secondary handle, Anderson, because South Carolina Christian is not going to allow him to in the ball up the blue crew from Midfield Academy on their feet.
It's you can't say enough about these two coaching staffs.
They've done a great job of keeping their teams in the game.
See the ebb and flow of the game and the fans in South Carolina, Christian all ready to celebrate another state championship the girls won earlier, defeating Atkinson County, so one state championship trophy is heading back to campus.
Will there be a second at 17 of 26 free throws?
You've got to score those.
And Winfield Academy has been able to stay in it with 12 of 14.
That's outstanding, but we're in that under two range and those percentages tend to drop a little bit when the more pressure on you in the back court.
Kevin Anderson So far as Pittman chasing him, here's McConnell good rebound by Howard so has your Howard Hughes treatment No look pass the friend nice pass It's a big, big pass.
Look up the floor.
The Warriors have the lead.
That's trusting your teammates right there now.
he's behind.
What's folks in the way is to haze you hard and go the line for a free throw.
You're going to find he can allow him to get the ball above his shoulders.
Know it's a three point play now.
Good win for the game.
He cannot panic.
If this misses, you've got to get the rebound.
Great steal Big kick ahead.
Now you're going to follow him.
You Can't let him get the ball above his shoulders.
Nice pass ahead it you see it now is the southwest Olynyk Christian players really have a good trust for each other and they're not afraid to kick it ahead to your teammate that's open John how is your Howard connects on the free throw and that's a five point southwest Atlanta Christian lead with a minute eight to go which you may want to bring someone else back to help John Hartley.
They don't need a quick three here.
Anderson will take a three and a steal by Quitman and they'll take it all the way again.
You don't need to pick three, John.
Just come down and run your offense.
Look for a time, three in a set play from the final whistle once Tom on Jamal's treatment this senior 84 state championship game may have punched his second state title but a beautiful dunk by the senior post being the operative word he really elevated went and threw it down hard erupting name for your bench with a lot of time.
This game is not over by any stretch of the matter again watch Whitfield Academy Drake great time out by coach that's settle his team down Come out of this out of bounds play look for a set play for McConnell or Anderson score and then now you've got to go for your immediate steal off the bag.
If you don't get it, then you've got a foul and then you've got to bring them back on the line.
And now you're going to have to try to put pressure on them and to make these free throws down the stretch.
But if you take your first quick three and miss and then foul, now you're playing behind the power coach, 29 points for Jahvaris Pittman, seven of 14 from the free throw line.
His four state championship game.
Think about this senior class for southwest Atlanta Christian.
They've been to a state title game every year.
They've pulled the maximum out games you can play at the high school level.
How many people say that?
Not many.
It's extremely rare.
They're a very, very explosive ballclub.
And.
1101 So the Warriors might be the one that gives them the state championship.
Anderson has said play the man.
But here's McConnell Hughes.
Great play out of the time out there.
Give it to your three point bomber and he comes out and hits.
That's a great play by Coach Johnson, settled his club down, ran the set, play out of the timeout big time.
Anderson great pass, did a nice job getting open first, then coming up and making the pass McConnell in stride to shoot talk about big time players making a big time shot that's endearing The quality of the pass is synonymous with the quality of shot you're going to get within the game.
Good for Academy, a state champion in 2003, that team, led by a real point guard named Brian LAMB.
Tim Morrison now has a very good stance and player, very good stands for player.
He comes off the bench as a six man.
He started eight games already for the pardon.
Talk about warm, just talk about selfless talent and question when you get Dwight Howard, who's averaging a double double in the NBA right now the first pick we saw in his last high school game and a couple of months later, he was the first pick in the NBA draft.
As you take a look at Kevin, Kelvin McConnell's numbers, 20 points already, Melissa Whitfield Academy So to still get the inbound pass on the steal, switch on all screens, don't allow anybody to get behind and you must guard the front of the rim.
They're going to face guards with a center fielder and hardly got a switch at all screens.
They got about they got hit foul and watch will go to one now 34 seconds.
Watch now has to come to the line under a pressure situation to shoot.
Now he does get to very well for his third foul on Kevin Anderson.
Eric, what is a 75% free throw shooter Now these go down look for southwest Atlanta Christian to make Whitfield had to catch the ball going away from the basket which will eat up more time getting the ball up the floor Big miss this rebound is huge if there's a miss because then you got that whole scenario where you get to a quick foul again, still a two possession game.
I think we had a whistle malfunction when the refs last night.
Got to be good for Eric Watts.
He's already in enough pressure when they take the ball away from him.
His 15 points against Randolph's play in the semifinals was his tops of the year.
An empty trip and Baskerville a huge rebound for Wolf Pack.
Now again you don't need it all off Steal by Danny friend He'll take it all the way and a blocking foul called on Baskerville again He got the block a little too deep in the lane You got to get that charge outside the lane but a huge turnover by the Wolfpack.
And how fortunate was Southwest Atlanta Christian great pick by friend See where he picks up the charge and you slide a little bit Cameron Baskerville fouled out coming in with Reed.
Brandon Reed, a freshman, will check in what a huge swing of events that once they get them to miss free throws, get the rebound and the turnover rears its ugly head all the friend can't hit and the worst thing is that it 810 seconds off the clock stay a two possession game Spencer with this free throw here's Anderson quickly Reed you got to get them to stay Anderson they got to move the ball 17 seconds.
Anderson He's got to take the shot.
Anderson will pick up McConnell with a tip in.
They go for a quick second play.
You get back, there's Pruitt.
Nobody got to get behind you.
That may have sealed the state for the warriors.
The girls won it earlier.
Now the boys, it's a double double for the Warriors.
Outstanding coaching job by both clubs, by both fun, outstanding coaching job.
Jahvaris Quinlan's goal is to get another ring.
It's his fourth trip to the finals and he's a state champion.
Southwest Atlantic Christian wins the boys single state championship.
We'll be back with the postgame festivities right after this.
And I'd like to suggest to you that inspiration is not something that comes and goes.

Scott Congratulations, Coach.
Your girls took it this morning and then do you take it this afternoon?
It's got to be pretty sweet.
How does it feel?
It's a tremendous feeling person First of all, a lot of you owe to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who made this possible, who told us this year that not by might know about power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord.
All of us and our kids just had the mental, the physical and spiritual toughness, and to overcome a deficit in the game and and win.
So it is this is a great feeling.
It's a great accomplishment for Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
The boys and the Girls Athletic program praise the moon.
Enjoy it, Coach.
