The rebels of Turner County 30 and one on the air take on the Wolf pack of Whitfield Academy 25 and six.
And we welcome you back to Macon, John Wilkerson.
Phil Hansen.
Both these teams have been regulars at the Final Four the last few years.
But Phil, these are two teams are just sick of playing the bridesmaid role.
You're right, John.
That gives us that matchup today of a back alley street fight.
Both these teams want to cut the nets down.
They want that cup.
They both play extremely fast.
They score in bunches and they thrive off their pressure.
And let's talk about the rebels of Turner County and Turnell Davis.
He's a good player.
Colonel Davis is the prototypical high school wing.
He can see the leaper, He can shoot the three.
He can penetrate, he can drive.
He's got a good secondary handle, an outstanding player averaging over 20 points for the rebels.
We take a look at their starting lineup.
Adrian Jackson, Pernell Davis, Trey Pierce, Brian Dixon and Chris Spears.
Look at that height, six, five, six, seven, six, eight.
They have some big sellers underneath.
Let's tell you about the Wolfpack, the Whitfield Academy.
There are no strangers to this championship game.
No, they're not in.
They have one title in their trophy case already and they're led by Brandon Reed.
He's a player's player.
Brandon Reed, 16 points averaging, shooting well over 50%.
And after this game, he'll go on to Arkansas State to play for the red wolves.
As we take a look at the Wolfpack starting lineup, Trey Miller, Brandon Reed, Chris Lovelace, Cameron Baskerville at six seven and Kinnard Backman, Ben Baskerville and back then will be two players.
You can keep your eye on as well as Crabtree.
Let's show you the starting lineups this great class single-A state championship games and with the starting lineups, here's the voice of the Macon Coliseum, Eddie Ashley and Turner County rebels with a record of 30 wins and one loss dressed in Orange as your visitors on the scoreboard and the Westfield Academy Wolfpack with a record of 25 wins and six losses dressed in white as your home team.
May I have your attention for the starting lineup?
First for Turner County at GA.
Number three, a five foot five senior Adrian Jackson at center number 46 foot seven.
Sophomore Brian Nixon at center number 25, a six foot eight junior.
Chris Spear at guard number 23, a six foot five senior Trey Pierce at guard number 12 and six foot two.
Senior Pernell Davis and Turner County's head coach Eric Hale.
How long's and now for you, Will, which male academy will pass and guard number one, a five foot 11 senior Trey Miller at guard number two, a six foot three senior.
Brandon Reed at 421, a five foot nine junior.
Chris Love this forward number, 35, a six foot seven senior, Cameron Baskerville at forward number 45, a six foot four sophomore, cannot touch much.
And with Steele Academy's head coach paroled Johnson Reed.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station.
And welcome back to making the boys state class single-A state championship game.
Get ready to tip off.
Before we do, let's hear from the third member of our crew, Scott Kozlowski.
Well, I'll tell you, John, the fans are getting restless for the tip, So I'm going to make this short and sweet.
Ask both coaches what their keys to the game said.
How are you going to win?
Their call calling told me we just have to score one more point than they do.
But then he got serious and said they got to protect the ball, make their free throws and have a great defense for Whitfield Academy.
Tyrone Johnson told me they needed to dominate the glass, send a message in the first quarter.
They need to match up on all 94 feet of the floor.
And the last thing you said confidently was, We're prepared, John.
Thank you, Scott.
And Eric Holland always has a good one liner for you.
Fill your key to the game.
Well, I expand on that.
I think defensive transition rebounding, I agree, is a must staying out of foul trouble.
And plus they got to capitalize when they do go to the straight turnovers who can handle each other's pressure most cost effective dash efficiently and mental discipline you've got to keep your head in the final game.
Trey Miller draws a quick foul on Adrian Jackson.
And you don't like those reach fouls.
They'll just drive you crazy as a coach.
Whitfield will inbound 25 and six on the air for Whitfield Academy.
That's Baskerville not that time and Turner County will get their first offensive possessions.
You take a look at Eric Harland, always dapper, dressed with that bow tie.
He says his wife picks out his clothes and she does a fine job at that.
And a turnover by the Wolfpack, if you like, a frenetic pace.
This is your type of game to sit back in your chair and enjoy this final read with the spin move when it's blocked by three on six of that six seven Turner County, both these teams are extremely long.
Watch this reach by Brian Dickson Nice drop step by Reed another foul inside on Turner County here this is totally is not going to go ahead with this two quick fouls but after the jump Chris Spears draws his first Baskerville from the top of the key.
Nice stroke from 15 and Whitfield drops first blood and there's that track too then intercepted with adjustment by coach Johnson Lovelace and Whitfield Academy.
The press breaker that Turner County was using was they were passing it to the wing and then passing it right back to the inbound who was then turn it up, up the floor.
Superb job of taking that away that second time.
Five, nine Junior Lovelace.
Four quick points already for Whitfield Academy Can't believe this game The guards of Whitfield academy against the guards to Turner County may be this thing that swings this foul for the loose ball you're in for a street fight today.
John Baskerville small Adrian Jackson guarding another classic mismatch man to man defense by Turner County.
They get it inside the play by Jackson Backman intercepted by Adrian Jackson.
There's a near turnover by Lovelace.
This is not the save it for the faint of heart today they're going to be going at each other on that alone inside this Brian Dixon is tied up right now.
Stay with Turner County.
On the flip side, I believe the inside play at Turner County with Hudson, Spears and Dixon are going to be awful tough to handle.
And another steal by Lovelace.
He's all over the floor.
But just Spears able to recover for Turner County and a foul on Cameron Baskerville.
You don't want him fouling, especially basketball falling 25 feet from the basket but you cannot throw Turner County before WHITFIELD Getting those long loopy passes in this game, as we saw in the first game, they're going to get picked off all night.
Baskerville six, seven, two tallest player on the way.
It's going to come to an end and really straight here, man to man.
Defense by WHITFIELD Again, that's too easy to pierce on the cut.
Baskerville trying to force a bad shot, which he does but there's a foul inside.
Oh I thought that was it nice defensive position is hands up feet still may have reached that starts two quick ones.
I'm going to make you nuts as a head coach.
On Cameron Baskerville.
So Chris Redding was set to check in.
Pierce at the free throw line.
Chris Redding.
Now, as basketball's is going to have to sit for a while, you've got to capitalize on your free throws due to the fact that allows you now defensively to set your press.
I'm still Turner County not on the board battle for it.
And Brian Dixon fighting with Chris Redding.
You can take a look at Tyron Johnson in his eighth year Whitfield Academy one state championship six years ago and then Pierce throws it away.
John Never want to jump the pants.
You're not Peter Pan.
You're going to come down, never jump the pass and Turner County is gone almost 2 minutes without scoring Turner County in a 1 to 2 press.
They're going to trap the inbound and a foul to Spears on Brandon Reed.
You don't need that foul.
Oh, he's not going to score from there.
This is not that's a second sound spared.
So two big guys for both teams with two quick fouls.
Lawson coming in to turn accounted for.
Collins also had four turnovers in the first 2 minutes of the game.
Lovelace he's had he's affected this game early on.
The couple steals my watch his hand and the ball again.
Redding 40 came very well give and go with Trey Miller almost turns it over but Cannon a back bench and six quick baskets by Whitfield Academy started not fast today what a start by this Wolfpack team very hungry for a title both teams are hungry for a title.
Here's trying to do it all.
This is Pernell Davis, the team's leading scorer and he's fouled He scores and it looks like they got Trey Miller on the foul Big time athlete Great drop step move They get right to the defense drops step elevates Nice shot on Trey Miller on the hack trail Davis 21 points per game the team's leading scorer he never won a foul the jump shooter so this allows Turner to score with the clock not running plus with city make this they can set that pressure right back up cuts the lead to three across by Turner County Great job breaking that Chris Lovelace he is fouled looks like Cornell Davis got it I really like it takes Johnson to there if you like a chess match folks you're in for a treat there he had Lovelace.
He's a secondary receiver in the middle of the floor so now you're your best ball handlers catching the ball in space.
Adrian Jackson was calling the foul inside.
Keenan back then had a chance for an easy basket, wouldn't fall out of bounds at Turner County even though cornerback and missed that shot.
I really like his activity early in this game playing with great intensity.
Now he's active in the post.
He's been an active player for Whitfield Academy at the wingspan of an Eagle Ford.
Lawson has checked in.
He did a real good job of this in the semi garden.
The smaller players on the open floor really lose his feet.
Well, for big man and Davis can hit rebound by Lawson in a long shot not there by Davis and on the rebound was Chris Redding and he's fouled fouls are starting to mount up here That's Brian Dixon actually they call that on Chris Redding that's his first foul so the big sellers and love playing with a charge Nice job for Charlie He set tuck that can lock yourself in and land on you but if you reach back out with your hands out to hurt you break your wrist, your fingers.
If you sit down on your button, take that charge to drive that grow that shoulder until like the first time.
Brian Dixon for the Big four, both teams are starting to accumulate some fouls Got that move by Brandon Reed all is he silky smooth as we said in the opening, he's a player's player.
His skills exceed his will and he is a tremendous attacker of the basket.
31 points against Wilcox County in the semifinals and shoots 51%.
He's really carrying this Whitfield team on his back short of that free throw.
And as I mentioned in the open, we will move on after this game and play for the red wolves of Arkansas State.
You see the substitutions coming in for Turner County, D. Jackson puts out Eric BOLLING likes to play in first team, second team, especially in the first quarter.
And he feels this second team has got to be better than the substitutes.
So.
WHITFIELD for them to have a chance, he's right in there so deep time out here at the Macon Coliseum and Whitfield Academy up by three on GPB.
Ooh, I mean, they're all playing a four point lead by Whitfield Academy.
Let's throw it down to Scott Kozlowski.
Hi, I'm here with Chad Stone, the principal of Tourney County High School, said the game early on that close game, but you wanted to talk about what else is going on.
Attorney County, County High School.
We've had a great week here, Turner County High School.
We've got graduation test coming up and our seniors have done an outstanding job.
We just had a fun week.
You get ready for the state championship game.
Our kids have really been good and we've got a great community here in that way.
Come see us.
That's a lock in the second half.
Thank you.
John, back to you.
Thank you.
And you're taking a look at a sharp dressed man in Eric Collins.
Now, he could pull off the bow tie.
I can't.
I love that time.
He ties his own ties and he told me his wife picks out his outfits and she as I said, she does a darn good job of it.
Turner County with Colts in the field.
WHITFIELD shooting 50% and Turner Al Davis not there but there in the follow with Todd Lawson.
And again, that frenetic pace keeps up.
Chris Lovelace Oh, look at that pass inside the back.
Then the Jackson in the game for Turner kind of gizmo guard punch Lawson with the rebound and that's D.D.
Jackson a sophomore running the point now for Turner coming the rebels were in this championship game last year lost to Hancock Central hungry team and also redeem that loss and turn out Davis came here and a rebound and that's D.D.
Jackson great job another charge by Lovelace that's two to go draw in this quarter the guards of McCloud Miller love this tremendous defensive pressure, but both McCloud and Lovelace had two big steals in the semifinal.
That's the seventh, eighth team foul on the rebels.
And so Whitfield cannot be shooting free throws.
We talked about that early.
Who could get into the bonus quick?
And the free throws are going to be a huge decision in this game.
And the ten Javon Carswell is checked in to Turner County.
That's him guarding Chris Lovelace.
Got a very active first quarter for the Wolfpack.
Good there, but that's Reed and we work on our line.
Big players make big plays in big games and this kid really steps up to the plate.
His skills are considerable beautiful cuts.
What's the defense took on the big guy?
Great use of the rim to block the defenders had an excellent job and for you Sun dunk conference fans are going to enjoy watching them the next four.
He was here two years ago as an integral member of that team in 2007, the Windmill Academy.
In fact, he had a chance to win at the buzzer.
He blossomed into a great player.
Boswell bringing up the ball.
Tough man to man.
Defense by Richard A shot by Javon Caswell.
They call and pass money and it was money there.
Swing it he'll now Whitfield known to be a little patient and will execute some of that their offense here and there has brought offense Douglas is doing a great job handling the county pressure and it's a very athletic defense slot and it finally got him on the kill and on his little early too and the great call and he tends to get his hand underneath the ball.
You got to keep your hand on top of the ball.
He can be on top behind or in front, but never, never underneath.
Didi Jackson, the sophomore point guard.
And take a foul inside on Chris Redding.
Know the big score Turner County I'm starting to get which is that most players are in trouble so Redding has to Cameron Baskerville is on the bench with two and Tyron Johnson cannot have that out of bounds will stay with Turner County he is coming in the game for Whitfield Diaz 65 senior checking in and that's Chris Spears not there.
Look at Brandon Reed.
That was like Dwayne Wade.
Yeah, he does.
Oh, and take it all the way to finish.
They can't find a rebound by turn it down.
It's Jamal Burns.
This was a starter last year now comes off the bench and they pass it over his way free and he'll go to the line as Davon Caldwell fouls Brandon Reed Brandon Reed is a deceptively strong young man to get hammered like that and still have the ability to get that shot off.
Gomes makes the three point play outstanding job great outlet pass.
Now what he does here he keeps himself between the ball and his opponent Excellent job with that they mentioned 31 points in the semifinals against Wilcox.
His last two games have been outstanding so 36 points against Darlington in the quarterfinals.
So he is on a roll, they say, and it's kind of a silent assassin kind of deal in regards to how he scores it.
You sit there and you watch him play and all of a sudden you look at the stat sheet at the end of the day, he's got 25 and seven and he just kills you with that.
You realize, you know what I like about him?
He wants the ball.
At the end of the game, some guys disappear in the fourth quarter.
He's coming to get it.
In fact, the last two ballgames, he's had double doubles, ten rebounds against Wilcox and 16 against Darlington.
Already 10,000, 2000 Turner County, which is a double bogey, six next on three, not there for Con Lawson.
Brandon Reed is active and every year Miller the man to man like around him back then he can make that shot from the elbow.
Here's Gage Diaz with a turnaround and a rebound by Turner County and Todd Lawson didn't.
Jackson hasn't knocked away but there he shot the record back by Burgess back then with the ball and a foul inside they're going to attack Trey Pierce with oh, I'm sorry Chris Beard.
That's a big foul this year Third foul on Chris Beard That six eight well looks like a reach.
Betts And that's a tough foul for Turner County to have him come out of the game now with 124 to go in the first half.
Well the officials are really looking at an inside game, aren't they?
So.
Well, that's going to swing it one way or the other, just like we talked about.
Who can get the other team in foul trouble.
The quick is is going to have definitely an advantage.
Kennard back then at the line 21 points against Wilcox County in the semis 17 against Darlington Daniels comes in to replace Spears for Turner County Look for Trey Pearce to get going for Turner County.
Look for them to start getting him the ball.
Well, wake up, Eric.
Collin told me that as Trey Pearce goes, Turner County goes.
He's an important part of this team.
Pernell Davis, great boy, has tried to draw that charge.
Not there, but look at that rebound by Kennard.
Back to Ben commanding the rebound.
Brandon Reed couldn't finish back back for everyone.
We'll put it up back there and off the hands of Todd Lawson and knocked out of his hands and it'll go to the rebels as we near the one minute mark in the first quarter.
Turner County really needs a big game out of Todd Lawson tonight.
Ty Lawson They call him the curve ball because he can defend the big the bigs inside.
They can defend out on the perimeter and throws the other team Curveball.
He's got such great length.
There's Pierce and there's Pierce and he's getting active with a baseline drive.
Good job by Portland to get him some touches.
One point lead by the Wolfpack.
Kenny Lemmons is checked in number five for Whitfield Academy inside the Beckman backing down couldn't hit and here's Pierce great pass over to Davis and Davis and he'll draw the foul on Josh Cleaves If you leave your feet you're going to get that foul called on you every time you've got to keep your feet on the ground hands up and back.
But the backside guy, get the block first.
Foul on Josh Cleaves and Cornell Davis is six.
One seemed to go to the line.
He didn't play in the title game last year.
He was a casualty of grades and well, like about ten Al Davis is that he buckled up.
He knew basketball is what he wanted to do.
So he got to improve on his grades.
And here he is back in the state championship game and a major contributor for this rebel team as a leading scorer.
Nice stroke and that gives Turner time to lead for the first time in the game near the end of the first quarter.
Trey Miller with D.D.
Jackson the Guard.
WHITFIELD Try to get to a beautiful pass inside back, man.
Great give and go.
I jumped at the ball defensively on that D.D.
Jackson shot great effort there by turned out Davis and what a first quarter we had Turner County and Whitfield Academy two teams hungry for a state championship.
Well the second quarter when we come back on the fourth.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on how now Welcome back.
To Make it Easy, check out the Turner County cheerleaders, one point lead by Rick Shield Academy.
And let's check out the last basket in the first quarter and fill the second.
Check out the move by Kennard back.
And it's a great ball side cut by back.
And I really like his intensity and his activity level in the first quarter.
He's paced.
WHITFIELD Academy.
Kennard back then a64 sophomore.
Now Phil, we talked about at the open pretty much the the the big sellers inside were going to be the key to this game with a foul trouble.
It's now become a card game definitely.
WHITFIELD Academy with Lovelace.
Reed Miller will be going against Jackson, Davis and Pierce for Turner County to the county now in a two, three zone.
The dynamic has certainly changed.
Trey Miller, great board by Pierce and Turner County, looking to push it up the floor.
Pierce and a floater by Davis that won't fall battle for the board between Brian Dixon and Kennard back then a tie up he'll stay with Turner County.
These teams are mirror images of each other and in all aspects of the game.
Both play fast, both are strong, both can run and they all can handle the ball.
Lots of stepback three and Davis can't hit.
But Chris Lovelace with the rebound.
He's been all over the floor for the Wolfpack and Lovelace will take it himself past beautiful pass to Diaz nice Garver using that left hand put those hands up.
You always want to be facing the goal when you receive that pass, not the ball.
Gage Diaz with a major contribution for Winfield Academy, they're up by three.
Here's Lovelace all over him.
Adrian Jackson, back to point guard for the rebels, and that's Pierce Now Turner County showing some patience.
Diaz on the help shot by Davis not their way and a rebound by Cannon back then with the long pass to trade Miller there he was double teamed Take the fall football and you don't want to throw double coverage and that's exactly what happened.
Davis has it knocked away but inside the clean up the garbage nice followed by Lawson by Chris Todd Lawson one point lead by the Wolfpack.
James Diaz, the top of the key.
He's having to play some significant minutes in this first half off the back of Trey Pierce and Pierce behind the break and speaks up Ryan Dixon and Dixon is fouled on the floor.
The speed of the game John is causing a lot of these reach fouls.
You've got to play defense with your feet, not your hands at all.
On these games.
Diaz commits his first foul, 17 foul.
And so Brian Dixon, a67 sophomore, will go to the Lions, really come into his own.
Why Division one schools are looking at Brian Dixon at six seven that size.
I can't blame them.
Well he's he's a horse when you read back in a game they can't they bring on the big ticket they call him a little ticket last year because it's six seven.
He played little defense.
He had to earn the big ticket nickname.
And I would say he has averaged 14 points per game.
Good job by back then to bring up that ball.
Brandon Reeves sucked back into the game doing a little bit of a rest.
MILLER And he's called four steps track, trying to go for an offensive foul clearing out with his forearm.
So here comes Turner County foul on Kennard back.
You just can't have that if you're Kirk Tyrone Johnson had that foul that far away from the basket with one year big people it is that's going to get you killed first foul on Pacman let's see that's seven fouls on the on the big guys for Winfield Academy Davis can't capitalize on well hustle play there by Adrian Jackson he is so quick this love this is going to step into that pass if you just wait for the ball to come to you, these guys are going to shoot that gap every time.
That's what this state championship means to both teams.
They're selling out in every play.
Both teams have been to the stands before and come out as bridesmaid.
There's Brandon Gray with a great drive.
He just takes over the games in spurts.
Two point lead for the Wolfpack.
Trey Pierce really hasn't come on track yet.
You've traveled on that trip to a little one on five there tends to get you in trouble.
Substitutions coming in.
You take a look at Chris Lovelace, Aaron McCloud, who's checked in for Whitfield Academy and the excellent slow down that takes man to man by Turner.
Can McCloud the tranel Davis on him Lovelace will drive challenge the big fella inside knocked away a stay with the wolfpack Great dribble penetration just a junior five nine Chris Low Gleason are ones tough as nails one place so low to the ground Great center of gravity Blair from Pittsburgh with that ball fake McCloud so much taller Todd Lawson over and a turnover by Whitfield it's McCloud Culver steps the defensive pressures causing some of these turnovers and pushes off by Whitfield Due to the fact that it's hard to compensate and to simulate that speed in practice.
Lawson pushing up the floor and a bounce pass to Brian Dixon Nice pass drive drive dish and dunk That's Batman He can hit that shot triple team Lovelace he'll drive swatted out there by Brian Dixon There's nothing wrong with that Like I tell Chris Lovelace to go in there all day long, make them make plays.
Excellent job.
Keep taking it to the big man, Brian Dixon.
Dixon averages four blocks per game.
As we go to the break here, let's welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
We're tied in the boys state championship game.
Let's hear from Scott Koslowski.
Hello.
What's a 15 seconds?
Oh, yeah, he'll rush over here on the screen right here.
We're going to hit him.
Three, two, one.
And then hello.
With no right off.
That just makes me.
I'm here now.
Here with the headmaster at Woodfield Academy, John Lansdale.
John, first assess this first half and tell me a little bit about what it would feel.
Academy Team Well, it's been a great year and what a great first half.
We're just about tied.
We're just privileged to be here.
Well, good.
Enjoy the second half and best of luck your team.
Thank you very much.
Okay.
Thank you, Scott.
But what's your impression so far in the second quarter?
I think it's been a great game.
It's been back and forth, an up and down look for conditioning to play a role down the stretch in this ballgame.
Whitfield will have the ball.
Aaron McCloud and Whitfield state champions in 2003.
They've been back to the state title game three times since Reed took the extra steps.
And that's all due to defensive pressure.
You kind of do things a little quicker than you used to doing them.
Turner County runner up last year, Final Four and 27, Adrian Jackson knocked away a play by Lawson.
Right there was Todd Lawson.
He's had a big half Turner County with the advantage near three and a half minutes to go till halftime.
McCloud hits the drive and there's Trey Miller and Miller and a block foul called on Turner County.
Gentry Jackson the luxury Miller gives Whitfield Academy.
He's a strong guard big body kid who can play both the post and the perimeter defensively and can take it inside amongst the trees and get the 3.5 11 junior.
He's built like a half and he's a strong kid.
That's what he does up play football for the Wolfpack, shooting 45% for 15 points against Wilcox in the semifinal game.
Look at Kennard and that's three it by Brian Dixon Great rebound back and great great rebound Keep the ball exactly above his head Does a good job of going straight up and getting the ball and blocks is what Brian Dixon specializes in and Redding Lonzo back then outhustled by Tom Lawson for the rebound and what a move by Turner Davis finishing the ball he is a scorer extraordinaire he can take the ball in foul line down he goes for these points Turner County down a little bit of a run in the momentum shifting to the team in orange that's back and flashing inside trying to back down three on three on Dickson and can't hit but there's Brandon Reed he has a block by Dixon the ball tied up and I'll stay with Whitfield Academy look for Woodford Academy to run some sets for Brandon Reed because every time they need a big possession, he usually comes up with the ball.
Oh, the big ticket's got some big swat so far.
Turner County is doing a good job of bumping Reed every time he's coming off the screen.
Bump all covers up the screens ten The woman inside the fact that he needs tact inside Todd Lawson will draw the foul.
Well again this isn't for the faint of heart.
You're going to take that ball.
You got to get a strong ball, fake chin, high and above.
Go straight up.
Draw the contact possibility for three to make the two on the foul line.
No freebies tonight and you take a look at Kennard back then five points five rebounds so far in the title game Watford struggling right now from the line now four of 11 with that make unsung heroes in this game so far Backman and Lawson Yeah tremendous job by those and go back has been a major contributor to work for the academy this year makes them both here come Turner County Janelle DAVIES trying to push the pace, give a pass inside to Dixon and the ball is knocked out by Keenan back then.
The goal record for the foul.
Well, that threw the two cannon back there.
Well, that play was all made by Colonel Davis.
He's doing penetration, a super, super job taking it to the rack.
You've got to stop the ball in defensive transition.
You've got to stop it high.
You allow your opponent to get foul line and down.
You're dead in foul trouble.
John is starting to show its ugly head coaching academy in the back and has to sit.
Reading comes in for him and there's wholesale changes for Turner County Chris Redding to draw and drew two quick fouls as well as Cameron Baskerville getting started in the post for Whitfield Academy as Dixon is one of two from the line in Turner County.
He's made this run, the spear still sitting on the bench and we sit on the bench for three McCloud.
He stops by Jamal Burgess inside, that's Redding, and Redding came out.
There's Brandon Reed and he has a stripped So Whitfield maintains possession and Trey now he that's when I was a little girl or Miller gives you the luxury he can take the ball inside and he gets bumped.
He's strong enough not to affect the shot.
It counts.
Turn out.
Davis His dribble penetration is getting Whitfield Academy picks now check out turn out Dallas on this drive it's Johnson creating Chris Loveless to help stymie Davis's dribble penetration.
Cameron Lemmons call on the foul 89 points for 12 Davis, the rebels leading scorer.
We highlighted the right guys and now turn to square trap turning up the defense at the half it a steal by Lawson and another steal by Brandon Reed Reed is fouled by Javon Carswell.
It's like watching a tennis match going back and forth forth and back great great job defensively by both clubs.
I've been waiting see which team is going to start using the back court pressure and start to push the tempo.
Brandon Reed at the line and could feel that continues or struggles of the free throw line.
You have to capitalize on those ones from the stripe.
Again, you can score and the clock's not moving, but again, it allows you to set up your defense.
You can apply your pressure.
Well, coming off the make one up two on that trip for Brandon Reed.
Now, the pressure being ratcheted up.
Look at that screen.
Great job by Bryan Robson and reconnect forces a turnover again.
Loveless did a great job of funneling Davis up the sideline.
Reed steps up and takes the charge.
He can't throw those hands back.
Really.
I hate to have him hurt his wrist.
You want to sit straight down, make sure you tuck your chin and sit down.
When you take that charge with your chest and turn.
Al Davis will sit with his second foul and they can't afford to lose him.
Redding Just nothing.
There.
Lovelace already thought about takes the pace a few of the past three years, rejected by Dixon now read the Curve again, rejected by Dixon.
And now Lovelace will challenge inside and draw the foul.
He will to take that ball again right to the shot blocked his chest.
If you create space, any space, you create the defense.
A man is going to occupy that gap.
Oh seven fouls on Todd Lawson Number two on Lawson.
You got to love the passion.
You just take it inside, go straight through him.
Great.
BLOCK by Dixon it two great blocks that possession unofficially I've got him down for six blocks already in the first half.
You get the great job of blocking the ball in the air instead of out of the offensive man's hand.
Oh, great.
Rebound.
We look at Rudy's everywhere.
It's again rejected by Dixon and now Turner County on the move.
Dude, Jackson will take it himself with off the basket traveling on to Jackson.
Great spin comes down hard dribble Yeah took an extra step You always want a bounce step bounce step pass bounce step shot bounce step Do a cartwheel Always up a bounce Lovelace on the penetration and he called for extra steps so both teams have exchanged traveling turnovers Yeah true to that the defensive pressure and the pressure causes the turnover and Reed and Lovelace battling for the Trey Miller and number four goal line he's so tough following him down because he's so physical.
When he gets bumped, he's not going to get knocked off Balance the great center of gravity strong.
Everybody up here, no foul called on Jamal Burgess's first foul in the region so he gets bumped.
He's not he's still going to be going to put that shot up when he's at the line.
That's like a layup.
Puts it in the book.
Trey Pierce's check back in.
And as you're about 30 seconds away to halftime, 2 to 1 five timeout called by Turner County.
As you take a look at Eric Holland Junior.
Well we hope you're enjoying our live broadcast of the best in Georgia high school basketball and ask you to stay tuned at halftime for your opportunity to become a member of the Georgia Public Broadcasting family.
It's viewers like you that help make great local programs like this possible.
And thank you for supporting Georgia Public Broadcasting.
We're tied at 25 in the Boys single-A state championship game and the Macon Coliseum.
John Wilkerson, Phil Hansen, Scott Kozlowski with you.
If you're just joining us, the Wesleyan Lady Wolves won the girls class single state championship game.
And now we're going to crown a boys state championship game as Trey Miller tried to get a turnover, but they'll stay with the rebels.
Trey Pierce has got to come and meet that pass.
If you stand and wait, Whitfield's too quick and Pierce right in the break, bounce pass, the pick said.
And Dixon is fouled and you going strike John you got to use that backboard especially when you get bumped inside.
If you use the backboard, it sometimes can take the error out of your shot.
Dixon makes it first a huge first half defensively for Brian Dixon.
He's got great, great length, plays it.
I only saw the seven footer he was shot.
Blocker You showed that in the first half of this one.
WHITFIELD Not just keep for the last shot McCloud that's Miller he'll take it and a charge as Trey Pierce draws the charge did a superb job of getting that charge outside the lane.
And so Turner County will now have a chance for the last shot stepped up on the block through the charge and say Miller There's a turnover.
Lovelace It reads Play scores it at the buzzer.
And so Whitfield and Turner County will go in the locker room tied at 27.
Oh, that's a great defensive play.
That's a four point swing playing on in up to possibly up four and then give up that quick score off the turnover and Brandon Reed finishes to tie this game at 27.
As we go to halftime let's hear from Scott Kozlowski.
I'm here with Turner County Coach Holland.
You looked a little upset there at the end.
What happened at the end of that?
We just make it too many turnovers here.
Let's turn the ball over.
I'm pretty upset.
We turn the ball over.
You can't play no defense.
What are you going to tell your team at halftime?
Start turning the ball over.
All right.
Well, best of luck in the second half.
John, back to you.
Thank you, Scott.
We're at halftime.
We're tied at 27 in the boys state.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station.
Welcome back to make it into the class single-A boys state championship game.
We're tied at 27.
And Scott Koslowski is standing by.
I'm here with Whitfield Academy's coach Johnson coached tight game going into the second half.
How do you assess the first half and what did you tell your team at halftime?
I felt like I needed to level with very good high intensity level.
We had a pretty mean level of intensity, but we did some dumb things.
The rotation was very off in the press and we had him in double bonus.
I mean, we didn't really pack the ball on inside like we wanted to and we got to make free throws.
All right, Good luck in the second half.
Having a good game.
Back to you, John.
Well, both teams have struggled a little bit as we take a look at the highlights and Trey Pierce finishing, Chris Lawson or Todd Lawson there, he had a big game with a couple of inside buckets for Turner County and then the leading scorer turn out.
Davis put us sweet lay up and Turner County had it lead briefly and then check out Brian Dixon He had five blocks to right here on this possession on Brandon Reed and then the big fella has gotten foul trouble and then back man for Kennard back then for Whitfield Academy with a couple of nice baskets inside.
And we're tied at 27 at halftime and we check out our halftime stats.
And once again, pretty even game well done.
50% from the free throw line.
That makes it awful tough to win.
You've got to shoot a better number than that.
Field goal is nine for 28.
That has a lot to do with the pressure that Turner County is applying to Woodfield Academy.
And you can flip it around with the Eagles nine for 23.
WHITFIELD Academy's pressure has caused a lot of that ten turnovers, 11 apiece.
There's your defensive pressure rebounds are about the same.
Look for her county to get a push from Chris Spears that got to get him into the game TRANEL Davis with ten points and two rebounds to lead the way value the pair city can't finish love to when that play out of a timeout for a halftime They did it last year in the state championship game it was successful and it really got the energy going for Turner County this time they couldn't finish Cameron Baskerville back in the game after a long rest in the first half, drawing two quick fouls man to man.
I think again, sagging in the lane and that's just knocked out of his hand and that's turn out they missed a great pass inside the Pierce play intercepted by Baskerville Oh he's going to bounce pass into the post he is Lovelace and that's back bench back then try to see Baskerville recovers and he took steps but Dixon is the silent MVP for Turner counties affecting every shot down the floor for Whitfield Academy.
We're just underway in the second half here The boys single-A state championship game.
John Wilkinson, so handsome.
How's he going to press my wish to look at it from the Macon Center Cineplex and Davis with a drive.
Great bounce pass to Dixon and he can't finish battle for the quarter lead.
That's Pierce on the jump ball and it'll go to wolfpack.
But Cornell Davis penetration off the dribble is giving Whitfield Academy fits Both coaches didn't sound so pleased about the first half play by their team More Vulcans mirror each other.
I mean teams at press and Trap don't like to be pressed in traffic.
Lovelace Fantastic pass the Baskerville follows the shot.
Oh, we're at full strength now after the all star is back in the game, so this should be exciting.
Now, guards were the key in the first half.
Well, the inside game come back in the second half again.
If the guards keep are allowed to dribble and penetrate as they always have all these Brandon Reaves and we will draw the foul.
He does such a great job of going north.
He sound like this one is Dwayne Wade.
Constant motion going forward.
There's no east and west in this game.
I love the way he gets his body between you and the ball.
They just turned the corner with a little bit of a wiggle super jab.
It's an instinctive score for fouls called him Adrian Jackson is scoring his fourth personal foul.
You need as a lefty is very good off his right field for the subject of what your academy is meant when he puts up some big numbers.
But we feel the caddy, he's going to be a big time player 2 to 1 trust.
They change it in that city.
Jackson is set to significant minutes in this game now, thanks to the track Davis and Davis for the floater.
He's not there.
Rebound by Dixon again Dixon has it knocked away we've got to finish below the foul and Chris Pierce it an elbow to go into the chops that's the fourth foul on Chris Spears so two significant starters who may want to be counted with four fouls at the beginning of the second half.
This is the coach.
You want to walk out and play in the traffic.
When that happens, Chris Lovelace bring it up again.
Both teams have played the bridesmaid role in this championship game.
Turner County last year losing to Hancock Central Whitfield Academy since they won the state championship as Chris Lovelace knocks it down, he's had an outstanding game with Phil Academy since they won that state championship in 2003 and has made this is their fourth trip since he that long pass isn't going to work against this pressure.
They've got too much speed defensively.
Both teams they're going to get they're going to run that pass down.
You got to short diagonal passes each time Whitfield has come back.
They've lost in the championship game, tapped out by Cameron Baskerville to know Davis has got to get down to the triple threat position and that sits weakness where don't just put the ball over your head.
It's going to get knocked out I guess, since with the with great pass I get a sense with Jackson and then Spears coming up for fouls that things are starting to unravel a little bit with Turner County and Dixon just got a call for a push and that's the third on Dixon.
The benches are going to play a role if things keep going the same.
And once again, Tarrant County collecting the fouls.
I suspect Mr. Pierce is going to take over right now.
He's disappearing and another foul on the bench.
And again, look for Brandon Reed to start getting involved more offensively for Whitfield Academy first found Caldwell I'm sorry the third foul on proven Tazewell the third Miller the basketball now Reed you look at the operate not that Ty and Dixon with a big four these kept Turner County in this game he's been super great let's avoid traveling again you can't jump on Jackson you just can't jump the past again.
Defensive pressure causes that turnovers Adrian Jackson coming back in the game for Turner County down three Jackson will sit on the bench really bringing up John Caswell guarding penetration by Miller knocked out of bounds and will stay with Whitfield Academy and you can feel that whole momentum swing over to Whitfield Academy field especially when Spears went out early with the fourth foul and a great pass to Miller and I'll draw the foul and if that's on Brian Dixon, that could be number four, the most dangerous man on the floor is the inbound and an out of bounds play.
People tend to lose him and they step right back in and get the pass back.
And I'm Brian Dixon, who just got charged with his fourth personal foul.
And I can't afford to lose him.
Turner again and four more at the line 511 JR He's doing a great job at the stripe and Brian Dixon with his 4000 stay in the game is Trey Pierce checks in and Turner County needs for Pierce to really step step it up he's got to get going and Turner Cannon will get on the turnover you have to score in this half unravels here comes the press here stand back Jackson come morning the trap there here to hit blocked out of there by Reed Reed may have fouled him the job he went north and south when you pass you never want to stay and pass in Cut to the basket pass screen away pass screen on the ball pass cut replace yourself Great job of passing in.
Coming back, getting it.
You got to go and finish that play.
Pierce at the line.
Now watch this one.
Knock the bottom out of that.
I've seen this a thousand times, only two points and two rebounds on the afternoon for Pierce.
Good rebound Dixon loses possession go to the Wolfpack and grab that thing with two hands.
We got a timeout on the floor with field up 3427 if I can make it here on GPB and welcome back to the Macon Cineplex the boys classic L.A. state championship game Ridgefield Academy up 34, 27 and third quarter.
Take a look at the Winfield cheerleaders.
They've had a lot to cheer about so far in the third quarter.
And Phil Hansen, Turner County body language, they seem a little tight right now.
Definitely.
You only have to win by one and you're not going to you don't have to blow them out by 80 points and just stay within your system and allow it to work for you.
It's part of youth.
Sometimes patience goes out the window and a foul.
You don't need more.
Davis That's not the rotation you want or the trap you want.
There.
He can't afford to lose channel.
DAVIS Now he's got third and they're about they have six fouls one more that puts Winfield Academy in the bonus in Turner County where he has won five.
Adrian Jackson's first career finish with four fouls.
John Caldwell, Todd Lawson and Bryan Dixon each have three.
We can just see that Turner kind of was just pressing fumbling balls and he kind of do things a little too quick.
Now with the Academy.
On the flip side, is it a lot to do with that in regards to their pressure because they extend you on both ends of the floor.
That gives go basketball challenging Brian Dixon and scores and the feel academy is going for the knockout punch right here Pierce with a turnover and he has Brandon Reed he's got numbers and they're to hit himself that was a big possession well an empty one for Wolfe Field for Turner and you get the feeling they got to really recapture that momentum.
And this is like a prize fight that with the academy had them on the ropes with that one possession there and they let them up in the back porch pressure.
There's the trap that's back bend and finishes here.
The McCloud is starting to slip for the rebels and the Whitfield Academy fans who made the trip from able to are excited.
I love it on Run for the Wolfpack.
That's a great trap.
You never want to pick the ball up off the dribble right over half court, take it to the head, take it up towards half court, reverse it to the middle and swing it opposite.
Well, for the latest information on GHC basketball championships, including live score Atlanta blogs, just go to GPB dot org slash basketball and also check out score ATL dot com for the updated scores.
The John back to your 11 oh run it's really a 13 to 0 run because if you take the last two points right before the first half which was a huge play well Whitfield Academy definitely now sensing it going for the jugular this is a team that has been in the state championship game.
It's a fifth trip, state champions and all three the seniors on this team as sophomores lost to Wilkinson County two years ago in Texas, first when they lost to southwest Atlanta Christian.
So they want to get the job done.
Since that state championship game they've lost three times the state title game.
Great shot, Cornell Al Davis trying to get it going for the rebels.
And the folks in Aspen are a little anxious right now down.
But Turner County down by nine, there's a trap that's going to get kicked off nine times out of ten.
Reed driving pass inside the basket.
There are these five and it might be on Dixon and they can't afford to lose him beyond Dixon, who's been very active inside.
And that's the fourth foul on Brian Dixon.
Well now they bring in one guy with four in for another guy with four spears coming in for Dixon.
You still got one more quarter to play.
Phil Woodfield Academy when they apply that press by having the luxury of putting back man on the front of that just gives you so much length at the top.
So that's first trap is just a monster.
Cameron Baskerville He's been a major contributor to the Wolfpack the last four years, so from the foul trouble early, you stayed away from that in the second half, one for two on that trip to the Lions, a ten point wheel tackling.
You do a great job will carry on mixing up their presence three quarter to quarter.
Yeah never let you get settled and you get a rhythm against it.
Lawson Has it knocked away.
He'll stay with the Wolfpack.
Look, Chris has got to come and meet that pass.
He can't wait for the ball.
Two and a half to go.
Third quarter.
That's the second of six basketball games today on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Good play, David.
Yes and no.
That's foul.
That's what that's going to be.
Chris Spears and Spears will throw his fifth and that's a shame.
Can't believe it.
He never got going at all today.
So Turner County loses Chris Spears 6 to 8 Great play on the out of bounds for the inbound are coming off the screen Good positioning by Backman over the back and that's a heavy blow for Turner County Jackson has four Dixon with four and three players with 3000 just been racking up and collecting the fouls throughout the game.
So again, a lot of that's due to the guard pressure and the guard presence offensively, which with Cam his ability to drive and beat the heat the guards for Turner County and then the bigs have to rotate the inside out.
Any time you rotate inside out defensively, you're going to be in a world of hurt, you know, back then, six four, sophomore, he's had a nice state tournament, 21 points against Wilcox, some 17 against Darlington, but he had a double double against Darlington, 17 points, ten rebounds, 4129 Backcourt pressure forcing the tempo last.
He's going to step up big and stripped away.
Whitfield has numbers and rate trailing looks a little time off by Aaron McLeod will go all the way as stay with the rebels we'll see officials talk you got a timeout good timeout by showtime by the rebels and look at that break.
Aaron McCloud finishing it off and he's made some contributions off the bench.
Well, yesterday at Exeter, Crown Flame for the state champions and boys and girls and had some really good games at the Gwynedd center and the only four eight girls.
SOUTHWICK The cat defeating Fayette County in the four AA Boys Milagro with a first state championship over Tucker and the five eight girls Redan over Marietta and then the five boys WHEELER And they win it every year.
It seems like, as are the three Milton And then earlier today, Wesleyan won their six state championship, defeating Savannah Country Day Litchfield with 16 points.
This third quarter, Turner County only two and Cornell Davis will go on while Davis is going north and south with the ball every time, every trip down.
Offensively, however, that does, it doesn't allow you to get a good rebound positioning.
If you're Turner County, which tends you to get a lot over the back calls, trying to get the Miss Davis at the line here.
He is the most athletic player on this team and that's saying a lot with a lot of athletes on this.
Definitely a double team.
Trey Pierce has got to step up here the next nine and 10 minutes to go in the game.
Pierce comes back in the game.
He's been sitting on the bench for a while.
And this is what Trey Pierce passed to step it up to account.
He's having a tough time scoring.
It comes works on academy.
Miller Good pass great pass inside the Chris Redding he draws the foul again.
John one you got to have defensive transition you got to stop the ball high with the heat mentioned.
But if you allow your opponent to get foul on downs, you're going to have to rotate inside out, which is going to produce layups on the backside just like that.
And Adrian Jackson is called for his fifth personal foul.
So they've lost their starting point guard.
The water is starting to come in the ship.
That's three point.
That's two players fouled out.
And we're not even in the fourth quarter yet.
And sitting on the bench, he's going to have to step up big here for Turner Town.
But the rebels have got to rally because right now their body language is almost defeatist in a way.
And look, they've got to rally.
You're right, John.
Look for them to try to amp up the defensive pressure and try to score off their defense, which will ignite their offense.
Redding at the line.
He'll play football at Wake Forest next year.
The 12 point lead for the Wolfpack Shot No Good by Davis Steiner for the fourth and there's big Chris Redding.
So you're not making the defense move just coming down going one on five and just pulling from anywhere I don't have inside the PAC man.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
The back then can't hit the shot And Devon Carswell, there's Pierce trying to get it going.
Stay well he'll get the block and back from calling the foul.
You've got to get ball movement offensively.
If you just come down and pull.
The defense doesn't have to adjust.
But one rotation, once that defense rotates one side back to the other side established in the strong side coming from the weak side, you can get a breakdown.
Pierce With the basketball.
Yeah.
Try to give him as many touches as they can.
That's the guy that's got to get going.
Lawson has got to get an offensive legit here knocked out of bounds by DeMarcus Daniels and they'll go to the Wolfpack.
Here comes the extended pressure by Turner County.
Yeah they got they want to ramp up they're not trying sell out now gives me turnovers is a can and McCloud trapped and he's fouled Davis a Lawson I seen the flip side of this when they try to quit the quick steal it's going to put Whitfield Academy right back on the line The next one's the double bonus Now you're in for a long afternoon Tom Lawson committed his fourth foul.
If you take a look at Aaron McCloud five eight senior off the bench in the second round against Pinedale, he had six steals.
He had a big time steal late in the game against Wilcox County, also continuing the same time in that game as well.
He gets the time roll.
Hey, John, there's no substitute for seniors and it's just none.
And we're seeing Academy with eight seniors on that team.
As Backman checks out, he'll get a rest.
You basically have coaches on the floor.
It's just a great, great luxury.
And those seniors have tasted this game.
It just hasn't gotten over the top.
And they're playing on a mission peak.
And there's the new steal by Lee.
He can't make the horizontal pass against that press here stay with Turner County for a read is active it's got to be diagonal and you got to have three short and one long fans in Jonesboro, Arkansas are going to love Brandon Reed That's a steal and here's Scott this time to rebound by Lawson Lawson No and Turner Kelly just can't get the ball in the basket.
Well they're having a tough time running their offense and it's basically become one on five every possession.
Granted, the press is having a lot to do with that.
It's got a little bit of a helter skelter and out of whack.
And then when they get on the over the half court set, they're not able to get back into their rhythm.
There's Pierce Pierce having, a tough time fighting his shot.
DAVIS No.
One side and the foul inside And I believe that's going to be on Cameron Baskerville oh one in Winfield Academy is lucky for Baskerville he they only have four or team fouls so they can play a little more aggressive.
There's a steal by McLeod Miller they have numbers but cloud over the scorer now will throw it down.
Oh what a capper for a third quarter for the Wolfpack shot no good by Lawson McCloud with the rebound the third quarter dominated by Whitfield Academy the Wolfpack are up by 16 as we end the third quarter and the boys class single-A state championship game right here on GPB Scotland shop now Bama Hancock Central with one second to go Todd Lawson had the chance Oh my goodness that's what I don't believe coach went through that up but it worked out for and now second through Allen at the line with a chance to nail down the lead.
This is Georgia public Broadcasting your PBS station and one of and welcome back to the making Coliseum WHITFIELD Academy wolfpack up by 16 as we go ahead in the fourth quarter in the boys class single-A state championship game as take a look at the state champions from the last nine years.
Wilkinson County up there, Southwest Glenn Christian with a pair Whitfield Academy back in 2003 And then, of course, we relive that moment when Hancock Central defeated Turner County in 2008.
Phil and I got a kick because I was on the Wildcats finish, as we've seen in our recent memory.
And Phil, I got to ask you, is it desperation mode now for Turner County?
No, I mean, you're only down six and that's eight baskets in Turner County.
Can score eight baskets in their sleep.
In regards to their style.
They just kept it locked down defensively and they've got to run their offense.
That's the only problem.
Turnover already and McCloud is fouled and they sit down and they watch this tape.
They're going to say, Look at it.
We've yet to really run a set offense since the second half in the second quarter, it's basically been one on five one pass to pass the most and try to get something quick.
TD Jackson trying to draw the charge D-block to get that charge and the five eight senior Aaron McCloud at the line he's had a good ballgame he's really affected the game off the bench making those hustle plays.
It gives you another point guard on the court.
I mean, you've got Miller, Lawless and McCloud in to the ball, handle the ball.
Tyrone Johnson.
It makes it hard to press them and trap them When you have four guards on the floor in Baskerville and Batman do a great job of catching and releasing, relieving pressure and skipping it to the open.
MAN Oh, this Whitfield team, they are hungry for a state championship.
They're loaded and they're loaded.
Exactly.
Eight seniors would love to cap off their career.
Take bringing back the trophy.
An empty trip.
Now, Lawson with the rebound and of course we saw going the break blossom with that crazy shot at the end of the Hancock Central game.
And Davis can't have it free on Dixon.
He'll go to the line now Turner County is going to take it and go right to the basket every time offensively and just crash the glass on the backside.
Dixon has got to make these free throws.
Great drive by Davis again he is the prototype high scoring ain't going can really fly senior Cameron Baskerville and fouled out so Whitfield Academy three on six one of eight points nine rebounds just a sophomore they call him the big ticket and I've been thoroughly impressed with his play and great job defensively like this one school did trip there.
WHITFIELD Now one on one, some Pop Warner stay on their offense.
Look at that pass.
McCloud The love plays inside the backfield.
Make a foul inside looks like Brian Dixon he's fouled and that hurts And so Brian Dixon he's been so active inside for Turner County will now have to sit out and watch five fouls.
Eight points and nine points.
Kennard back finished along with the academy.
He's done a good job of getting the bigs for Turner County in foul trouble, which is now making them off their bench with a player that's not the same skill set and equivalent to the guy that they'd taken out back then.
Now, in double figures and three rebounds shy of a double double Davis taking it to the hoop.
Oh, not full court pressure Turner County selling out trying to get that turnover Where do they go to man Kosmo with the steal time pinch so Pierce can't hit but he's fouled inside Chris Lovelace say Pierce has got to finish on that great job cutting to the basket but you got to finish this team there's Pierce had the opportunity to finish first Lovelace there to the hack it five points four rebounds Pierce is just hasn't gotten the touches in this game the struggle of the tonight he's been struggling at the line today because Pierce was at the free throw line late in the game against Hancock Central last year a chance to win it and carry that burden all year because he missed the free throws to stay after practice.
It's been hours working on his free throw and then as he mentioned that broadcast, it was with him that they would have been in that physical league inside on the foul down to great stuff coming off the bench and Renee Randall is back in the game.
Oh, no kidding.
Great.
Well, go to the line.
He's carried this team on his back.
Bradley.
He had a chance to win the state championship game two years.
He had a shot at the buzzer that didn't go.
Wilkinson County went on in overtime to win it.
11 points, seven rebounds for Brandon Reed.
He's been hungry to get back in this position and here he is.
And with a 15 point lead, the Wolfpack are in a good position to bring the trophy home to Mapleton, and Reed makes them both.
Tyronn Johnson in his eighth year, he's won 351 games overall.
194 Good move.
Whitfield Academy.
And now this allows you to set your press.
Turner County won't go away and a foul on Pierce and total and Eric Collins did not like that call.
Well we're full academy again with all the guards on the floor that makes him awful tough to trap because once you get the trap set, they reverse the ball and they get another guard in space being able to handle it.
And then the break begins.
Last time, Turner County won a state championship of 1963 as Miller hits from the double bonus.
Now Whitfield Academy.
Whitfield Academy toeing the line.
They struggled at the beginning, but now why is the shift at the free throw line?
A pair of free throws for Trey Miller?
Great pass.
And there's Davis with the floater.
Not there, but Lawson with a put that go Pierce and maybe I'll get Trey Pierce going a time out on the floor.

Tyrone Johnson again in his eighth year at Whitfield Academy and they're close to winning their second state championship.
The last time it was six years ago we got to keep and Eric Collins the title game last year and really Coach Hollins really got something going in Ashburn with Turner County.
So he's an outstanding coach.
I mean, everybody in this tournament is just doing a phenomenal job.
And you see the mismatch.
To attack each other's mismatches and create mismatches is just so much fun to watch.
And I would I wouldn't be surprised if this team is back in Macon next year.
Woodson Academy senior lady that's Miller Try to force it up.
Brandon Reed Boy, you smell that loose ball, Grab it and put it home.
No, there's got to be targets in anybody he passes in the open floor hasn't gone out.
You got a popcorn.
Anybody you pass is behind you.
You got to be aware of that.
Take the ball to the sideline.
You know who's there then break it to the middle.
BLOCK on Trey Miller.
Now battle Chris lost there Tom Lawson to long so this is beneficial for Turner County due to the fact that the clock has stopped allowing them to score without any time elapsed on Lawson He's a senior clean up 6.8 rebounds off the bench big contributor for the rebels Chris Lovelace checking in for Trey Miller.
He bring one ball handler in for another.
Oh, yeah.
This is the second of six basketball games here on Georgia Public Broadcasting, the crowning champions throughout the day, two eight girls and boys after this.
The number three boys and girls at the Trap trying to get that turnover.
Turner County Lovelace breaks it And there's Chris Reddick knocked out of there by Jamaal Burgess in love and he'll go to the line He didn't need the dunk John needed two points is what you want Oh great pass can't allow anybody get behind in that press but just go up there and make the layup.
Plus you have to get Brandon Reed on the backside.
Redding will play football at Wake Forest next year.
Jim Grove is going to love him.
He's a senior six six empty trip for Redding.
That's a that's a huge play.
I mean, that was two points right in your pocket that you just gave back away.
And a steal by Lovelace and scrambling is Turner County though forced to jump all over they'll stay with the Wolfpack.
Chris Lovelace has been everywhere today he had two two steals early in the first quarter, very active on defense, especially in that press and New York turnover by Carswell as well all over Chris Lovelace inside that's in and that's was knocked away by Lawson.
It's rough but Whitfield Academy is in a nice job of running their offense against Turner County, Turkey, trying to chip away at this double digit lead by Whitfield Academy.
And they've taken two points away.
Four points.
Great pass to Lawson.
Beautiful feed by turnover.
This is where you take it.
Where was this in the third quarter?
You got to somehow speed with the academy up a little bit and look how they're overplaying on that man to man.
Defense challenged everything and was three starters on the bench.
Three key starters and a foul on Turner Al Davis.
You can't afford to lose him That's his fourth personal foul.
You're right.
They cannot afford to lose him.
He's been the catalyst of the second half.
A little comeback now by Turner County.
He got a lot of time.
John.
Aaron McCloud at the long field swinging a little bit ground right now.
It's a big shot.
Trey Miller back in the game just ready to take the C two big free throws back for 14 McCloud.
Now the pressure by Ridgefield Academy high near a turnover by Reed and he commits the foul now that allows Turner County to go down on this end of the floor and score without the clock running you don't want a foul for goodness sake if you're Whitfield Academy.
I got to think right now for Turner County, they need a huge psychological advantage to get within single digits because they can do that within the four, three and a half minute mark.
You're right there.
A big free throw there by Jamaal Burgess to Senior six two.
He was a starter last year.
He's coming off the bench this year.
You can even see the body language for Turner County picking up one of two Reed come down to rebound.
I'd say within the next minute or so something Turner County can get this within single digits.
That'll be a huge psychological advantage for them.
Woo Whitfield will retain possession there.
No freebies today.
You got to go strong to the basket.
It's a pummeling out there.
Oh, look at that.
Back there with the ball fake and they'll draw the foul.
I think it's on Todd Lawson.
Well and Trey Pears commits his third foul cannot backman at the line then a nice job for a sophomore Malone really stepped up big in this game and we're still now making the free throws making very difficult for Turner County try to get that lead in single digits.
You can't trade with them now.
You're going to have to stop them in school as well.
At this point.
On defensive stops, the Turner County are imperative.
There must really empty trips offensively.
It's almost to the point where you cannot have one.
Now, Davis trying to create his own shot zone by which they can at least call on the foul.
Coach Johnson does a great job of changing his defenses into the offensive foul turn out Davis and he's fouled out.
I'm going to step up there and take that charge by in so turn out Davis for six one senior you'll sit and watch the rest of the way as Aaron McCloud with a great pass that was fast and now a great turnover for Turner County Jevon Carswell That's Todd Lawson with it and Pierce can't get it going.
Reed with a big rebound for Whitfield Academy and a get back lob inside the back Ben he'll get the rebound not there rebound by Jerome Carswell and we'll call him for traveling now stay with Whitfield for three and a half to go.
I'm surprised there's no blood on the floor on this.
One guy's going at it.
And back then he'll go on.
Oh, look at that.
You got four guys in a foul down for the top five and now Tom Lawson is fouled out.
So let's five out Fouled out in your six down.
There you go.
The top six names going well Eric Collin had some some words for Trey Pierce because now he's got he's the man he's really the only one out there that can really step it up and affect this game.
Kennard back in 14.4, but you have to do it within your scheme.
You just can't go one on five.
WHITFIELD Academy is too defensive oriented for that.
You're playing right into their hands.
And there's one shot Murray should rebound and put in by Deedee Jackson.
Looking at the chase a little bit now to turn a corner, you got to keep the ball on one side of the floor.
Don't let him reverse it, because then you're going to get back in this cat and mouse game all day long if the foul, you're going to put him back down low, the double bogey.
So it's kind of a catch 22 and back then as we go to the line, he's been hitting his free throws and the Turner County fans can feel it.
See it slipping away.
Another trip to the state championship game and the way things are looking, it could be runner up status again.
Now for Turner County, it's time elapsing here.
They've got to take the ball to the basket because Watts Whitfield Academy saying don't foul, don't foul it.
He can take the ball the basket.
Then you can play offense, defense game where you score, call timeout, put your defensive player in top pick off three with the foul not there but come on and boy Great three you want that rebound and he'll go to the line Coach Johnson that's neat that's the last thing you want right there.
They missed the two free throws and the foul trying to get the rebound for score.
Atlanta reporters are blogging these games live at JPMorgan basketball.
Also check out the score at ELLE.com for the latest scores here from the Georgia High School Association State Championships.
Corey Brady announced he's going column.
Now if this goes down look for Turner County to try to get a quick steal and then a foul immediately to put the game back on the line Reed there with the on the Miss a pass the back batter back then is fouled by Javon Carswell getting a little hard foul cooler heads prevail the technical foul now you don't want that boy that's really unraveling for Turner County now it's like a technical has been called I think maybe on Chris Loveless for the personals on Javon Cosmo's fourth and a technical foul has been called and channel Davis out I'm sorry Chris love our Chris Loveless I saw the one 2 to 1 so Kennard back then will shoot the free throws got 15 points the rebound away from a double double and look at those numbers from the free throw line and only a sophomore hole and Moses there's going to be some kind of player oh, the senior lady team is going to be a team leader next year of junior.
So shooting the technical free throws will be Jamal Burgess at these free throws Bradley Turner can can get the ball right and they can cut this lead and he could cut this lead into the single digits.
So that's the last thing you want.
And if you're with Cam, you don't want the clock to stop.
Oh, Trey Pierce.
Trey Miller on him here.
Scratch that.
Won't fall back then with the rebound and he'll go back to the free throw line.
He has been sizzling from the free throw line where the fans of the Wolfpack fans from Academy are starting to feel it.
A second state championship in six years.
And the folks in Aspen, Georgia, should be very proud of this.
Turner County team saving the game with one loss on the year.
In fact, knocks down the free throw.
So you have to like Turner County to definitely take on the personality of the coach here.
Despite them battling in, Eric Hall has one of the best stares I've ever seen.
Guys don't think I'm going to see that on a regular basis.
Turnover and we're still carrying it two and a half to go sloppy.
And DeMarcus Daniels will check in for Corey Brady whenever you end the season with two losses.
I know it's tough to win and may come from the state championship game, but it doesn't take away what kind of year the Turner County team had.
You're right, that Academy calls a time out.
I mean, you have to look at the whole body of work that they've been able to do this to an outstanding, you know, realize it's hard to look at it.
In fact, you know, they finished runner up status last year and their whole goal was to get back into this game and win it, which they did.
And of course, part of growing up is learning how to deal with adversity.
And Turner County is where things are going that will be runner up for the second year in a row.
Well, as I said, this is the second of six state championship games here in GPB.
We've got Buford and and model coming up in the girls Single East, single girls state championship game.
Now that'll happen around 3:00 and then Blessed Trinity and Dublin in the boys double state championship game will tip that off approximately at 445 then the triple AA girls Carrollton and Lakeview at 7:00 and then the nightcap at triple AA Boys South Atlanta involved in that one.
You got to see Derrick Favors signed, sealed and delivered to Georgia Tech, among the top high school players in the country.
And the cloud the follow.
He's had a nice steady game two in the five Backman does a nice job for Winfield Academy of stepping up and catching the ball big time receiver inside That's Pierce Nice pass and basket good by Javon Carswell and Eric Hall will call timeout Nice pass by Pierce 15 point lead by Winfield Academy And again wait for the academy They won the state championship in 2003 to finish Southwest Atlanta Christian came back in 2004 and lost to southwest Atlanta Christian course That team featured Dwight Howard and Darius Crittendon in 2006.
They made it to the state championship game and again lost to southwest Atlanta Christian and came back in 2007 and lost two to Wilkinson County.
So it's three trip, empty trip trips to the state championship game when they were runners up.
This is the fourth and it looks like the fourth time might be a charm definitely for Winfield Academy, but the teams they were losing, two were pretty strong.
They were extremely strong.
I mean, we're talking about the first pick in the NBA draft.
I mean, Jimmy Christmas and then yet they were just loaded and the Wilkinson County teams and Coach Jeter this great, great personnel.
And now here they are and they may get the job done today here in Macon, 15 point lead for a quick steal and then a foul foul there by Javon Caswell.
Well, Turner County, I understand it's a disappointment, but you had a great year.
Cassel just found out in college was found out and that's six players have fouled out for Turner County and again you can solely contribute that to the Whitfield Academy Guards They just put so much undue pressure on you offensively and defensively they just extend you and anything that you're trying to do.
And each end of the floor 17 point lead for the Wolfpack Turner County against six players of fouled out there's Brandon Reed with the rebound and Reed will close out his senior year with a ring It's as Whitfield can seal it the foul by Corey Grady and the fans who made their way up who made their way down from Mapleton standing up in unison they feel that this state championship is theirs.
Trey Millard, the junior, he'll be back next year.
He had a great second and third quarter kind of paced Whitfield Academy with his offensive play.
He Treveon Young, a64 senior, has checked in for Turner County.
Trey Pierce has had a tough afternoon and then they're looking for him for some big, big numbers hasn't produced today.
Trey Miller as we near the one minute mark as a countdown now for the state title for Litchfield Academy.
It's been six years since their last one and look at Brandon Lewis they finish finishes he does a great job of elevating his shot keep ball at the apex of his and his jumps.
He's been a pleasure to watch today and we're sure we'll get the ball back to Treveon Young as it knocks out of bounds.
More substitutions coming in for Whitfield Academy and that's going to do it.
Brandon Reed in his last game as a Wolfpack, he'll move on to Arkansas State after this Jordan for him the game seeing that number three in that picture Kevin McDonald playing with field and man could shoot the lights out steal by Jamal Burgess's score knocked out of bounds 20 seconds to go before they award the state championship trophy to Litchfield Academy.
