March Madness has hit Macon in a big way.
TV will bring you six live championship games as championship weekend rolls on here at the Macon Coliseum.
Good morning, everybody, and welcome to the single-A Girls championship.
Taylor County and Jake County, the Vikings and the Lady Eagles, Jim Tanaka, along with Phil Hansen.
Phil, another great year of basketball.
Well, Jim, it's great to be back here with you and everybody at the family.
I think today's game will be a battle of strengths.
Look for Taylor County to impose their 1 to 2 signature matchup zone, only to be countered by the Eagles three point aerial attack.
Key players for Taylor County, Yolanda Wrest Press.
She's great.
She is the engine that gets them going.
She sets the tempo defensively, runs the show offensively and can shoot the three now, the one to watch Ursula Pittman.
I love her to death.
She can go inside outside, giving Coach Trautman the luxury of running a small line up or a tall lineup starting lineup for Taylor County.
You got an impressive Starting five with Rest press and of course Pittman that we mentioned.
Exactly.
They also have Lloyd Powers and James and James being a very steady head player.
Taylor County head coach Matt Trautman has been around a long time.
Take a look at that record.
One word, sensational.
He does an outstanding job again with this one, two, two matchup zone.
You're going to hear me allude to that all throughout the broadcast.
Folks, you're looking at a clinic now.
Taylor County has a lot of depth on the other side of the ball.
Jenkins County plays five players.
Well, if you have five very good ones, that's not a problem.
And they do inventory.
Smith is one of the key players for for Jenkins County.
She is the heart and soul of that club.
She can go inside outside, hit the three, step out, catch the ball always plays the best defensive offensive player on the defensive end of the ball and one of the players we were talking about this weekend with the merkerson, she is the little fighter.
She gets them going and she runs the show offensively, does a nice job of dribble penetration, kicking it out to Cony on the wings and of course Tucker sending Smith are part of that starting five that are outstanding also gross and merkerson like we talked about but also McGriff in Koni can shoot the three and McGriff hit two big threes in the comeback against Lamar Christian in the semis.
Joey Kirkland, the head coach at Jenkins County, does a nice job.
Obviously, his team is very successful being 27 in all but one thing and they're very resilient and they know how to win.
So it's going to be a good ballgame.
Eagles and Vikings, it'll be a lot of running up and down the court.
You would tell me this, some good athletes.
Exactly.
I think the keys to this game are going to be one pace rebound in defensive transition with the Eagles liking to shoot the ball the long three pointers it produces long rebounds defensive transition and rebounds are going to be a key to this ballgame.
Okay, we turn it over to play.
ANNOUNCER Eddie Ashley, the guy.
He's been doing this for 29 years, wins and one loss as your visitors on the scoreboard and the Jenkins County, the Lady Eagles, who are undefeated at 27 and zero dressed in gray, will be your home team and have your attention for the starting line ups for the Taylor County Lady Vikings.
At forward number 20, Ursula Pittman at forward number 33.
Darcel Lloyd, welcome to the main event at Center number 42 one.
Tanya Hollis at guard number 31.
Ashley James Oh, at guard number 11.
Young Love, Doris Press and your Taylor County head coach Matt Trautman.
And now for your home team, Jenkins County Lady Eagle at forward number 32, Cassandra McGriff at forward number 51, Tres Smith at center number 20.
Luck, Kendra GROSS at guard number ten, Whitney Merkerson at Guard number 23 so far.
Tony And your Jenkins County head coach, Joey Kirkland, hits the single-A basketball championship, Taylor County and Jenkins coming up next on TV broadcast of USA Basketball.
On TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners, You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum, the single-A championship, Taylor County in Jenkins County.
We get ready for it.
Let's go downstairs courtside to Adam himself.
Good morning, Adam.
Good morning to you, Jim.
Well, it should be a good one out here today.
Jim.
There's a couple of things to look for early this one.
First of all, Jacob County, they're going to want to shut down the shot outside.
They're going to be looking to shut down the three, make them work the ball inside.
It's not something they're not accustomed to.
They're such a good shooting team from outside, something to look for early on.
Keep that in mind.
Thanks.
Back to you, Jim.
Hi.
Thanks, Adam.
You'll keep us up to date.
Phil, what are you expecting?
This one?
Well, I expect a tough contest.
Think the biggest thing is going to be the pace of the game.
The Eagles want a frenetic pace.
They want it going up and down is more helter skelter, is the better for them.
Look for the Vikings to be a little more disciplined.
Walk it down, look inside, bang it inside of their big people and then their guards can penetrate also.
All right.
We get ready for the tip.
The lady Vikings are in the blue uniforms, going right to left and the Lady Eagles in the silver uniforms going left to right and off the tip.
It's the Lady Vikings and already they're shooting from the perimeter.
So she gets her feet so that she can hit that.
Here come the Eagles and a shot off the mark.
Loose ball and a sack is good Memphis's tough.
She's she's relentless.
She will not stop.
She'll play 94 feet.
So the junior guard gets the first bucket next to nothing.
Jenkins County dress press sets it up in the quarterback's kitchen for the shot off the mark.
Loose ball underneath.
And it looks like Taylor County will keep possession.
Watch Taylor County.
They're going to run a little inbounds play.
They like to step back.
Ashley James right hard with the ball diagonally in the pass response to James Russ Press inside that's Hollis inside loose ball and a jump ball possession out of points to Taylor County.
The Eagles are doing a wonderful job They're playing very quick today when I mean it's only 2 minutes to go the end into the game but Simmons stepped quicker to the ball than Taylor can check that Jenkins county of course with the ball as they move from left to right on your telephone screen here your officials for today's game as the three pointer is launched and hit by Landry Smith, who just went over 1000 points for the first two years of basketball here.
He's very versatile.
He can go inside, outside.
And Taylor County is definitely off to the races, as was Pittman in the corner to James Pittman for three.
Yes, he can hit it again.
They're all very good standing shooters.
If they can get their feet set, square the shoulders up, they can shoot the heck out of it.
JENKINS by two off the break.
This was Smith.
Nice job throwing the ball over the press.
He can do a couple of things.
You can send the cutter to the middle or you can throw over the top, but you got to stop the ball defensively for Taylor County, the Eagles work it around Jenkins County in a23 zone and another big bucket for their match.
They're going banjos Jimmy back and forth they go now steel underneath Taylor County implementing their 2 to 1 press after makes some get back situations and James hits the easy bucket and Taylor County's lead is now eight seven.
They got to stop the ball a lot of running gone Smith again for three I'm playing at a very high fever pitch today from three Smith hits from downtown Pittman off the mark rebound underneath and put back by Quinton Hollis.
That's what you alluded to earlier.
Battle of the Boards.
These long three pointers are going to lose long rebounds.
This is moccasin across the timeline guarded tightly by James and it looks like a jump ball possession of is pointing towards the lady Vikings.
Well the press here on both teams is almost become non effective due to the fact that the guards in this game are so good they can take the ball off the dribble and moccasin and restless is like this is championship play You got to get on the floor and wrap it up.
Don't bend over to pick up that ball and get on the floor and get it.
Crispness brings it across the timeline, throws the clutch out from the corner, is off the mark.
Oh, he's got a box out, Jimmy.
He got some big rebounds underneath for the lady Vikings, crashing the boards early making the difference Taylor County by 23. shot attempt off the market from the Vikings again West fresh off the break through Great pass by Pittman super fast kick the ball to one side of the floor and kick it back out the rest of the open three good time out and Westbrook hits the three as you said, Taylor County with a five point lead in the early going over Jenkins But this is basically playing close to script.
We got a high very high tempo game for us to get her feet set.
If she can do that, she'll hit that all day long.
But even though that Taylor County is up five, the pace is a little fast for them right now.
We are.
We hope you're enjoying this broadcast of the GHC class state championship.
You can show your appreciation and support by becoming a member of TV.
It's easy and totally secure.
Log on to our website at WW dot GPP dawg and thanks for supporting high school sports.
P t v Taylor guy an all out man to man press This is Michaelson on the inbounds he's going to look at putting it across the timeline moccasin tripped dunk and a foul be called Yolanda restless she does a nice job of getting that ball in the middle of the floor so they can't have the trapping and here it is again a little slow with her feet from baseline three ball stepped out of bounds.
You got to come to the ball, Jimmy.
Can't wait for you.
Got to step to that pass.
Step into the defender.
Keep ball you in the man principal you'll never make a mistake And Cassandra McGriff with the inbounds this is Morrison just off the mark Merkerson gets the rebound and pops from 12 Yes that great balance she's very well off the bounce 1512 Taylor rest pressed is your quarterback for this team as this put them back to rest press this is what Taylor kind of wants you to send up Look it inside get some good in this crush yes of those you know normally in a championship game, being on TV, there's a lot of jitters.
Jitters in the beginning, not this nothing he's getting Scott Smith hasn't missed yet.
Voluntary Smith hits again 1714 Taylor County very high level of play very quick first quarter halfway done ready and the ball's knocked out of bounds and the Vikings will keep it.
And with this fast paced offense going on both ends, the players need a break.
Ashley James comes in the game replacing Yolanda Restrepo for the Vikings.
The first set Amy Monroe for the Eagles come in spilled and they're trying to help Ursula Pittman at the top of the key pass the play looks right side that's Kirksey Kirksey down low and we have a whistle and it gets the ball gets turned over to the Lady Eagles as the Eagles are running four people across the baseline to beat this press Moccasin goes the distance and we have a whistle underneath He was lot of traffic down there.
I don't know how she fell, I guess.
Nesmith Gravity.
I thought she got bumped off the inbounds Von three Smith uses the backboard and misses the first shot of the game.
Now here comes the final two on the break.
This is Pittman Pittman stops, thinks about the three then says Now better now Nice ball movement by the pelicans Kirksey down low Williams off the mark Here comes the Eagles going back the other way Got to stop the ball He's got to stop the ball in defensive transition That's the key.
Smith to moccasin stops and pops you 15 and a airball Look at this moccasin is everywhere.
That's Devonte Smith from downtown.
Holy smokes Front three.
Smith is lighting it up.
She is playing great.
Jenkins County and Taylor County tied at 17.
What I alluded to earlier, even though that Taylor County was up five with about performance earlier in the game, the pace wasn't what they wanted.
The pace is too frenetic, which is going to be the huge Jenkins County has a great shot.
Nice follow through.
She shot that from I-75 but very good player wants to play too, and wants the ball in big situations.
Oh, yup.
He has willing them to win.
As I mentioned earlier, Smith won over a thousand points for her two years of basketball here.
The pace of the game is not allowing Taylor County to sit up in that 1 to 2 match because they're coming right down one two passes and they're shooting the three.
If they can get the transition back for the defense and now they can employ that one two to match and slow down.
Finally, and here come the Vikings.
Ashley James with left corner has Pittman off the mark.
Got a three point attempts early That's tough look.
Exactly That's both team strategy They're not afraid to shoot it but again Taylor County, I believe, has a size advantage.
They're going to be banging the boards all night with Lloyd Hollis and Harp coming off the bench.
And now they have just Williams of our cars on the right.
Free throws and turnovers and rebounds are going to be a key in this ballgame.
Hollis for the second of two here you see her average on the air eight points a game and ten boards and Eric pass and the lady Vikings take over Taylor County's pressure is that turnover here you see Coach Trautman calling to play for the Vikings Oh this is James Garner Tarpley by Cody in the corner another three point attempt by West Press talk him of loose ball in the knee he's going to get it and the referee says the Vikings stepped on the man and it'll be late Eagles ball now the Eagles are running for a cross here on the foul line looking to throw the ball over the top And there it is Good call from Drew Smith goes the distance.
This is only her second shot of the game.
Back come the lady Vikings breastplate off the brakes top to bottom ten nil good loose ball underneath and the Vikings will keep it well even though they didn't get a turnover that last time be in Taylor County in the in the press they got the quick shot they wanted and got the rebound making the Eagles go one and done press press inbounds to James that's the west press in the corner looks down low has Williams off the mark and a loose ball foul is going to be called against Megan Kirksey Well I love moccasins he is everywhere on the floor.
Offense defense that matters.
You've got to park in the bus So the Vikings take over, but I can't get over the shooting defense today.
There's both teams receiving a very high rate.
There she is.
Look, as you sit right next to us, that's him.
She's everywhere.
I'm telling you.
Is he going to be doing the color here in the minute?
He's a big time winner in the game for the Vikings.
Ursula Pippen replaces Megan Kirksey with just under 2 minutes to go in the opening quarter.
Here's Merkerson.
And from downtown, the shot off the mark by Harvey.
These long shots produced the break on the other end.
If you don't get on the boards and the jumper is up and it's good.
By Jessica Williams Cardinal Rule.
You never want a foul.
The jump shooter is of five contested and had to help side not block the shot right there you you want to contest that shot but that's a reach that's you just lay down that play You want to get in front the contested shot and let the weak side just Williams numbers on the air does a nice job coming off the bench and hitting the boards for Taylor County and the shot off the mark and here come the Eagles and we have a foul on Yolanda Russ press foul done merkerson Nice little read still far from the goal too Here's moccasin stops and pops off the mark rebounds Moccasin is right there got a box out the shooter just don't turn and get the ball five points of rebound find your man establish contact Ford pivot hold the contact and go get the basketball Just top of the key looks right side rough cross from downtown Nice inside outside action Nice pass by Hollis.
Here come the Lady Eagles stolen by Westbrook has man left side That's defense Oh, look at this Nice pass finding the open man Ashley James for the press pause that they got the turnover There she is again This press gets an outside house off the mark Westbrook everywhere just like Moccasin and like near and hits a nice skip three point attack by James Kirkland.
They need a time out here 2819 Taylor don't panic Oh panic.
You got a lot of game here.
Just relax.
And that's where teams like Jenkins is doing with 26 seconds to go in the opening quarter.
I mean, there's a whole lot of time to play.
No panic.
Now, again, the pressure is causing them to speed up and throw the ball over to gym to get it back on the defensive end of the floor.
Ashley James, to bring it across the time long loses 20 seconds to go in the opening quarter.
That's the beauty of this game.
There's always a series of runs.
Once in the beginning, an offensive run or a defensive run.
10 seconds to go.
As you see the clock three ball by touches.
Good big time shot, big time shot.
Navy Kirksey comes up with the looks like the last bucket of the opening quarter.
So it's Taylor County with the lead over Jenkins County 31 to 19.
Our coverage of championship weekend on TV will continue.
We'll have the second quarter coming up after these messages from GP TV are down broadcast of USA Basketball on TV.
TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners, You're watching TV, bringing you the best.
You're watching the GHC basketball state Championships on TV.
Welcome back to the You make it coliseum.
You bet.
Those tutors are happy Taylor County leads it in the early going.
Let's go to autumn and chill out of.
All right.
Thanks.
Thanks, Jim.
Well, it's pretty much looking just like the way we thought.
Jenkins County trying to get a hand out in the face, out top to cover the three.
And it's just not work right now with a running gun style.
It's quick moving action.
Look at the score.
The scores are outrageous early on.
So keep an eye for more of the same in the second quarter.
Thank you, Adam, for you, Jim.
Phil, we were noticing Smith on the sidelines.
Ah, yeah.
I don't know if she got injured or she's looked down through the fact of the score, but she's a battler.
She'll come back.
Taylor County's halfcourt trap and ball movement.
Then our defense, Yolanda Rest, has just taken over a shot off the mark by McGriff.
Nice rebound by Tony and the Vikings on the move again.
Now, we have had some points.
You know, this is 50 points in the first quarter and yesterday's five, a girl's championship game.
There was 80 points in the entire game like that.
And they just come right back out of the out of the court.
A break on fire again, Ashley James and out here comes Jenkins County again, was too much dribbling.
You got to pass that ball and move just terrible terrible dribble is going to get you in trouble again.
You know, you get your head down, you dribble, you going to be in trouble, stay out of the corners.
This is rest press who has been everywhere in the first quarter.
Calacanis trying to extend that zone a little bit look like a little man to man their down low Hollis at the mark rebound underneath and we have a whistle Nice board by Loyd Key Taylor County can go big or they can go small they can bang inside but Loyd Hollis and Pittman plus the guards of restless James and Pittman, you know, they have a two edged sword.
They're never one for the step back there is that dressed press in the corner when she passes the ball.
Great ball movement.
There it is inside.
What they're trying to do here is pin that back line up zone.
Just press off the mark and on the run.
Is Jacob Kelly stolen by James gets it down the rest press and they look to regroup down here nice skip do a nice job of moving the ball by passes key ball reverses and the time to get a layup inside it is down low Hollis and off the mark is low Hollis with the rebound he goes They didn't go look at that shot Here's moccasin stops and pop off the mark Here come the Vikings got to get back off the break Pittman looks right side for West press Can't find the loose ball And here comes the Eagles This is moccasin off the break Moccasin in traffic and knocked out of bounds by Ashley James what I really like Jim Taylor County is deflecting a lot of balls and if you're having deflections shows you have a great effort see right there.
But there's a deflection right there and then another try to get a steal there.
And if you can deflect the ball defense that tells me that you're working.
These teams like the run fell shot off the mark by McGriff and here come the Vikings after James is so smart on the floor Pittman down low to Williams and she misses the shot the board by Monroe here the Eagles on Tre Smith now here you go Here's the 122 matchup we talked about earlier.
Now this is where it's going to get tough for Jenkins.
This is Tony down low to Monroe and there's a whistle now that was all set up by Kony's dribble penetration.
If you're able to get in the gap of that zone and draw people to you just right there, she was able to bring up the baseline defender in Hollis, which now created the open opportunity in the Middle Basin.
Darcel Lloyd That's her first personal at the line there's Monroe again at this.
Any zone you want to have ball movement and men if you can get in that gap with dribble penetration and then overload the zone make your three guard your four, you should be in pretty good shape.
So Monroe hits the free throw and it's 30 for 22.
Taylor To take his time, you has to weather the storm here and get it to halftime in and get the five by the halftime break James to Cooksey for three and it's off the on Moccasin brings it across the time line here you see the Vikings on a 14 to 3 run in the last three and a half minutes and that was due to that half court trap.
The infant shot off the mark by Monroe, loose ball underneath and the Vikings come up with it.
Ashley James gets it across the Cooksey Cooksey from just inside the three point line is off the mark Look ahead here comes Smith off the break drops it off This is McGriff nice pass if you've got somebody with the same color jersey in front of you, kick it ahead.
You can go much faster with a pass as opposed to a dribble.
Ursula, pick them with the ball.
Now for the Vikings again.
Now Jenkins County is slowly but surely creeping back into this thing.
Taylor County by ten 3424 points in the midway point of the second quarter, three point attempts off the mark by Ashley James loose ball Vikings pick it up Williams gets it back out to Ashton James got a three pointer by James is off the mark downloads what with the rebound and puts it back in You can't let her slip inside you on that rebound 3624 Taylor County you've got to find your man in box out moccasin calls her play run by Chris Smith You know there's any question let's play one let's play one two and three.
Smith is now six for eight from the field and four for four from three point play.
Incredible shooting by Van Drew Smith and Jenkins kind of had two chances to get a couple of rebounds there.
And they just came up a little short.
Again, these long shots are going produce long rebounds, which again will create the break on the other end of the floor in back for Taylor County, Illinois, the West Press.
And there's a rebound on the game Taylor County with a 12 zero courtesy listen to the three Tennessee rebound four on tempo good hustle by at Loose ball This is Russ press off the right side of the ball goes to the back court.
Who's going to get it?
It's going to be Kirksey and back from the Vikings.
Good defense by the Lady Eagles.
This game's got a lot of ebb and flow.
At the beginning, Jenkins County seemed to be a quick one step faster.
Jenkins County seemed to slow down a little, but I believe they got tired.
And then Taylor took the upper hand.
And now Jenkins County seems to be shifting again on.
And here's Russ Cross, guarded by Moccasin.
These two have been all over the floor so far in the first half.
That's a great battle.
Kirksey looks inside, has Williams back out?
Rest press looks to reset the offense.
Very patient back down low Nice pass to Kirksey Excellent Give and go excellent High low actually and the ball almost stolen by Williams on the inbound and the Lady Eagles will look to inbound again T.J. and if you're able to score this sets up your rhythm Now you can jump into your presses or your half court trance, but you got to be able to capitalize on the offensive end first.
Taylor County on a man to man press pass the Griffin bounce to Moccasin We have a whistle quickly and a foul behind Latisha Buckley.
She's going to come in there and give them a monthly that is give them a little perimeter punch coming off the bench.
That's her first and off the inbounds.
Here's Monterey Smith Country Club side stops them, pops them ten no good good Rebound by Monroe good hustle by Monroe underneath But she stepped out of bounds and the Vikings will take her over and you get that rebound you've got to turn to the outside away from the defense turn away from that.
Get your feet underneath you.
Here comes Yolanda.
Ress.
Press Garvey by Moccasin stolen by Smith, two on one moccasin on the receiving end stolen by Westbrook back Come the Vikings.
And now the ball is thrown away as Butler had to go off her hands and out of bounds.
Get a little crazy again when you come down on that break, if you had a two on one situation, don't give up the ball until you're stopped.
Take it north and south, 94 feet back in the game is Ashley James Taylor County.
Lakisha Barkley takes a big and Jenkins County's got seven turnovers Taylor County hit four good turnovers rebounds in free throws moccasins gets from downtown off the mark loose ball Here's McKissic for three point line again off the ball two balls in a row by the Eagles but you can bet they're going to try it again and it goes here you go and it's off the mark and here come the Vikings.
Yeah stop the ball.
They got to go back to the paint, establish as this pick Ms.. Ashley James back to pick.
She looks for the three point shot.
Yes.
Wow.
She's shooting the ball from that well and the outside is going to open up all the inside play for Taylor County.
Taylor County with the lead at 41 to 27, a minute, 42 to go here until halftime.
They're just doing a super job.
If she can get her feet set, she'll hit that all day long.
But what that's going to do, though, is going to draw your defense out, which is going to create scoring opportunities for the inside players for Taylor County Friday night at 7:30 p.m..
It's Georgia's longest running high school sports in academics, program prep sports.
Plus you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports plus Fridays at 7:30 p.m. exclusively on TV and film this Friday night, the most important show.
We'll have highlights of all these ball games and the folks get to enjoy it one more time.
Oh, I love watching your shows on Friday night.
142 to go go halftime.
Taylor County leading at 41 to 27.
Taylor County's man to man offense is very beneficial for them today off the inbounds here's McGriff she gets it back to the quarterback for the trap moccasin she breaks the trap Look at her go behind the back, drives the lane, stops and pops off the front of the iron.
Here's Von Smith.
Hey, I'll think about a31 hop off the marker first, miss from downtown today.
You got to follow your shot The way you shoot that ball.
Here come the lady Vikings, Ashley James with those long, nifty passes, making her to check it on Smith.
That's her second miss from three point land.
But hey, listen, it's still not that.
Four for six.
I'll take that all day long.
Look inside.
Look inside.
There's a bounce pass.
Always with a bounce pass into the close air.
Pass out.
Marvin got the loose ball back out to Moccasin.
She returns it back to Harden.
Three point shot by Harvey Off the mark Nice caught by Williams Without that though you got the lanes run Here's James Curry Oh nice pass You don't just run the floor good things are going to happen Darcel Lloyd on the receiving end of that one hits the easy two.
Nice pass by Kirk 4337 Taylor County under a half minute to go There's that one two to March 2327 Excuse me on that score here's McKissic tied up in traffic stone that's Pippen and we have a whistle and the Vikings will take control.
But the Eagles have to do is just be a little more patient on offense.
You don't want to push the panic button right here.
They need a big stop right here.
Big stop.
This is Ashley James as we count down.
10 seconds to go.
In the first half, they get Turner one more time they go good steal stolen by McKissic 5 seconds for three.
But he scores a big stop right there Excellent momentum building Taylor County with the lead at the half 43 to 29 over Jenkins County but that's all right They got a big stop there.
They scored there and then they're going to have the ball open up the tip off for the second half.
Let's go courtside.
And Adam Ansell.
Adam.
So Coach Wild, first half, the first real high scoring first quarter.
You got to take the lead into the half.
You're just two quarters away from winning your state championship.
What do you think is going to happen?
I think the ball game going to be won the second half.
This bar is not going to quit.
They're going to come out.
They're going to play hard.
And anytime you shoot the ball and whoever they shoot at, you always end up you know, they always a threat.
So we got to come back out with the same intensity that we had in the first half.
And just try to contain the three point shooting and continue to shoot the ball as well.
We shot it.
Well, good luck to you, Coach.
Thanks a lot, Coach.
Matt Trautman.
Thank you, Adam.
It's halftime here from the Macon Coliseum.
Taylor County leads Jenkins County 4329 halftime festivities are underway.

TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
you're watching the GHC Basketball State Championships on TV.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
Halftime of the Girls single-A championship.
Taylor County has the lead, 43 to 29.
You see a couple of teams on the floor.
Those are the single-A boys that will be participating in the boys championship following this one.
WHITFIELD Academy and Southwest Atlanta Christian Phil Hansen.
This has been quite a ball game so far.
A lot of running gun.
First of all, I'm going to go downstairs to Adam and chill.
Adam.
Well, thanks, Jim.
I'm here with the principals of both schools.
First of all, Principal Bonnie Brown in Taylor County.
This is an exciting time for you.
Your boys team has won a couple of state titles, but this is a chance for the girls to win their own state title.
It's been a few years for you guys.
How exciting is this?
It is very exciting.
We made it to the Final Four a couple of years, but it's been a long time since we've been to this final game and we're just very excited.
You guys have a great showing.
It looks like both school is really a great show.
And just tell us about the community and how everyone's really got behind the team.
Well, Tyler County really supports all of its sports.
And when basketball season comes around, it's no different.
So we have most of Tyler County here today and that's really exciting for the girls is this girls team has worked very, very hard.
We have some outstanding students academically, and so the seniors are proud to be here.
And we just thought we pull off win tonight.
Well, so far, so good.
Now on to the other side, Principal Harold Roach from Jenkins County.
Well, Rutgers happened really exciting time for you guys.
I mean, just have the girls here.
The state title, real exciting first half to go along with it.
Tell us a little about just kind the school and you guys being here.
I appreciate the opportunity.
You know, our girls have played extremely hard all year long.
They're kind of Bacardi kids, so I'm expecting a lot out of them.
The second half, this is far from over.
Our girls were really given a lot of boost from our community.
You can see how many people are here today.
That's pretty much how we travel home and away.
We can pack the stands and then they travel with us quite well.
It's a great community to be in and they're very tight knit community and we're just so happy and thrilled for these kids what they've earned.
And our our superintendents here, most of the Board of Education is here, and they're always been supportive of our students.
And, you know, we're doing a lot of great things and it's a small community, probably similar to Tyler County in a lot of ways, and we depend on our technology.
But I'll tell you what we depend on most of all is our faculty.
And we know we have a great group of people in the classroom and they do a fabulous job with these kids, and we're trying to take them to the next level academically.
We're getting there.
Obviously athletically, but our faculty bar none is is the best around and maybe the best in the state.
So we're so proud of them and everything our athletic team's done this year.
Well, it must be exciting.
Yeah, pretty much the whole town here, it sounds like.
Describe it.
You guys have a close down town for this game.
But several places did close down and they said they would reopen Monday.
They might close by now if we can come back and get win a state championship, you might have to give an extra day to celebrate.
Well, we've warned the people that pretty much it'll be a holiday probably starting on Saturday and working well into the next week if we can pull this off.
But the support has been absolutely tremendous.
We've got a lot of our kids here and we've got plenty of our community.
And also part of our community is working up here in a hospitality area.
And so, yeah, so it's our whole thing.
Oh yeah, we don't play around.
Well, we come we come to work also.
Well, thanks to both of you guys.
Good luck in the second half of a really exciting first half.
I hope there's more of the same in the second.
I'm sure there will be.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, Adam.
Phil Hansen, Jim Tanaka, back here at turn Halftime.
I tell you, it's been an exciting game, but, you know, they talked about the communities and how everybody works together and comes to see the games.
It's really it's really exciting how everybody just participates.
Oh, I love this week, the Jenkins County, they travel great and there's the whole place that stands out is just packed.
All right.
We have the stats from the first half and some field goals.
I look at the shots taken by Jenkins County, 32.
Taylor County's taken 37 shots.
Well, that's outstanding.
But but you got to look at there is the three point percentage.
You know, they they're almost shooting 50%, which is like 75% from the field in a regular in a regular set.
And again, you've got eight for 20.
That's that's outstanding also.
But the big thing that I'm looking at here is the turnovers that separates by two.
But getting free throws, rebounds and turnovers are going to be the key to this game.
All right.
So there you have the numbers on the first half.
Taylor County with the lead, 43 to 29, 72 points scored in the first half.
And here are the highlights from the first half action between Taylor County and Jenkins County.
Any time Yolanda Restless can get her feet set, she has a pretty good chance of scoring square off her shoulders.
She can knock it down.
Okay Here's Williams down low.
What a great pass to Kirksey.
Excellent.
Whenever your man leaves the double team, always diagonally cut to the front of the rim, you get a lay up and here's Moccasin off the break.
Now this was a big play due to the fact that Jenkins County is going to get the ball to open the second half.
So that's really a four point play, two points that Taylor County didn't get because of the steal.
And then two points that Jenkins County got when they capitalized on the turnover.
Now they get the tip to start off the second half, second half coming up, Taylor County and Jenkins County, the girls single-A championship next on TV.
Good broadcast of USA Basketball on TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
You're watching TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum, The single girls basketball championship, Taylor County leads at 4329.
Let's go to Adam and shall Adam.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
Here.
I'm here with Jenkins County coach and Coach Kirkland, Tulsa, you got a similar situation in the semifinals.
You guys were down big the second half.
You used a big fourth quarter run.
What's going to take to kind of do that same thing again?
Well, right now, what we need to do is try to be more patient and try to run out fast.
And we tried to run with them and they hit a lot of outside shots.
And we're going to try to slow it down a little bit, pick up our defense and try to keep it close going into four because I know my guys can come back and win this ballgame if we can manage to get within maybe seven or eight.
Yeah.
With you with your outside shooting, 31 points, 50 total points in the first quarter, you know, you guys have a chance and plenty of shooting in the fourth quarter.
Good luck to you in the second half.
Thank you.
Thank you, Adam.
Adam mentioned all the scoring going on 72 points in this one.
And as we mentioned earlier in the broadcast, in yesterday's five Age Girls championship, there was only 80 points scored between Parkview and Stevenson.
You're right, Jim.
A lot of that's due to the three pointers.
If you can keep shooting 46% where Taylor County shoot shooting, you're going to have a high number on the scoreboard.
The first 3 minutes of the second half are going to be a key to the outcome of this game.
But Jenkins County has to again reiterate what coach said.
Be patient respect for the 11.
You got James with ten and Kirk's keep a seven best seven big points coming off the bench with her and of course Smith leads all scorers for Jenkins County with 16 points Merkerson as we're underway second half as the Lady Eagles have the ball Jenkins County has got to get McGriff in.
GROSS And Tony on the scoreboard here quick Moccasin to Smith going too tightly in three point range and the white going fourth for six so far in the game Miss ball and stolen away by Pittman Pittman looks to go the length of the court drops it off.
Nice pass to Yolanda, ress Press.
Oh, you got to step up and stop that ball in transition.
You cannot let them get the ball into the paint and other loose ball.
Vikings Pick it up with the ball.
James.
Oh, nice pass again.
Terrific In time out there it is, 4729, Taylor County.
We've played 40 seconds in the second half and already they need to regroup.
I told you the first 3 minutes are going to be a key to the outcome of this game.
And Taylor County came out to knock them out right off the bat here.
Quick ball movement.
Here's the transitions.
Now what you have to you got to stop the basketball.
You got to step up and stop.
Don't turn your back.
You drop kick your butt to the baseline, jump to the ball, step to the basket.
But you got to stop the ball in transition and hopefully the rest of your teammates will come back to help.
There you see Coach Trautman talking to his team.
We hope you're enjoying this broadcast of the GHC class AA State championship.
You can show your appreciation and support by becoming a member of GTV TV, Easy and totally secure.
Log on to our website at WW Keyboard and thanks for supporting high school sports on TV.
It's been a big weekend for high school sports here on GTV ten championship game.
It's quite a schedule and one that won four times over the top.
And here's Monterey County Smith off to break it up and end it out taken by MacPherson they work it around to Smith on the right wing Lloyd's got to come up and pick that air pass or that over the top pass off whenever your opponent is running at you come up and pick it off.
And if they're standing still, if you're going out, they're going to throw it over the top of your head.
When the receiver is running at you, that's when you step up like Dion and pick that off.
Lady Vikings take over.
They have the 18 point lead.
Look at Press Press go the length of the floor Here come the Lady Eagles got a belly of the basketball can't throw up those one man arm has to make 22 passes.
Tony has a tip from behind by rest.
Press and rest.
Press gets called for the personnel.
Well, they got Jenkins County has to get Tony on track here.
They've got to get another score inbounds, pass his moccasin stops in pocket because he can't get a rebound underneath this ball.
Smith looks for it.
Now here come the lady Vikings off the ball.
Nice job by Tony.
Does he mean to pick it up there?
And the right side risk press from downtown off the mark rebound underneath Nice put back by number 31 Ashley James Nice steps Never stop playing You've got to get your body on your opponent.
Just don't turn and get the ball.
Tony brings it across the timeline.
4929 Taylor County coming up on 6 minutes left to go first quarter Nice pass underneath and bucket by DeAndre Rose again Jake is kind of he's got to guard against there's no ten point play that he's got to chip an interesting unit on the defensive end of the floor long rebound There we go again Pippen lined up the three pointer that missed and here we go again the run and gun stop it caught by Smith from Tre Smith.
They're going to need time here to regroup.
It's good time out, Time out.
So Taylor County with a 16 point lead on Jenkins 4933 Here's the replay.
So you always want a bounce pass into the post air pass out bounce pass.
And due to the fact that the offensive man can see it and then you catch that ball easier than on the run, throwing it chest high.
Nice job using the glass.
I like the way Trier immediately protected the ball before taking that jumper again.
If you keep ball you in the man principle, whether offense early or defensively you're going to be in pretty good shape again.
This game is going to be slow on the defensive end for both teams.
I mean, even though not a huge lead here in Taylor County, you still got to keep playing defense.
We've got to rebound right now is that coach Jerry Kirkland and of course, Matt Trautman, who's had a sensational career.
Both these teams are very well coached and here come the Vikings.
This is Pittman, 51 five Eagles buckling, knocks down low good ball movement as they were looking to try and find Kirksey on the wing.
Yeah and Hollis underneath it she just got to turned to look look baseline it's about that long in the game Jessica Williams for the lady Vikings and taking your seat Darcel Lloyd that's the luxury coach Trautman has for Taylor County those parts are interchangeable so he doesn't really lose anything.
He brings somebody off the bench, good ball movement like he's working around the perimeter.
But this is Buckley.
It's a block, another block by Smith.
But we do have a whistle on the play.
They can't get frustrated.
Just got to keep playing.
And that's going to happen.
The first again, GROSS had needed to come up there and make the initial stop.
And then the help side being Smith is the one that's going to get the block.
Foul is on McCray.
He's at the line.
And this is an all bet.
The clock has stopped and now you have a chance to get the rebound.
You want to stagger your feet and have your ball side put up and the free to step in.
See, that wouldn't happen with standard feet, step back, staggered and give her his kirksey off the mark.
This ball and look at the Kirksey Curtsy, curtsy puts it back and this is again and Smith gets the loose ball and is fouled underneath.
And this one looks like it's going to go against Williams.
I think it's county in Tennessee just to go for the ball.
They're not putting their body between the man and the basket Vikings with the ball Kirksey off the glass to Gordon and here's Smith with the rebound as the Eagles look to run it the meter pass and stand and stand you got to move Moccasin and Barkley battle it out Moccasin with the shot loose ball underneath That's a jump ball.
It's getting physical now.
It's championship time and possession now goes to the lady eating Look for the ISO down low to Smith stolen away by the Vikings Here's Barkley very good play report that got Kirksey off the mark This is Williams back out but we think he thinks about the three now throws it down low to Hollis Yacoub Jackson action He's very good inside now playing Hollis uses that glass super excited outside action with Harrison and thirsty Mr. Smith in the front court merkerson off the side of the backboard and here come the Eagles almost stolen by Barkley luckily had a chance there and is actually almost stolen by McGriff and we had a whistle again.
This pace, though, favors Jenkins County going up and down, kind of out of control a little bit.
There you see Ashley James reporting back in for the Vikings.
Now, Jenkins County offensively has to be a little more cost effective, dash efficient that can't come down Grant.
They're going to get those open threes.
But if they can get a couple more passes, I think they're going to get a couple of layups.
There's Taylor Collins extended.
Here's Merkerson back out, three point shot off the mark by McGriff loose ball good hustle by close Gets it back outside to Cody who misses the shot.
Here come the Vikings.
This is Pittman getting to the cross the time line again.
They got restless, getting a breather.
And again, Pittman takes over the contact responsible.
He's three and a half to go.
Third quarter down low.
Hollis has lost the ball.
Is it Williams that puts it back up.
Can't get it.
Here comes Moccasin on the run again.
Looks up to break, play, get go That's a nice pass now And your big man's running down the middle of the floor.
That's when you throw the air pass so they can run it like a receiver there diagonally cutting to the basket.
That's when you want the bounce pass and get the job that much receiver This is Pittman stolen by Madison Pittman gets it back.
Pittman gets it around the horn.
Here's Kirksey getting his job off the dribble hitting ball fake take one step across Crabtree Shoulders knocked down stupid job 5337.
Make it 5137 two and a half to go now Jenkins kind of He's going to shorten the passing lanes if you don't want you don't want it long get those passes on the offensive end defense later is a nice head ball fake step across squared up his shoulders That's textbook You see a shot of Kirksey playing defense Here's Moccasin rebound Moccasin gets a rebound.
Now it's 13 She gets it out to Westbrook.
Nice job late for your teammates.
Come down to Fort Dix.
You don't need that right off the bat.
Shot off the mark loose ball underneath and it's moccasin coming out with it again.
She's got a great engine.
She can really run moccasins, stops and pops.
Yes, that's excellent.
And now it's 5337, Taylor County.
They just been a couple of stops off the break and we have a whistle underneath us houses, shots off the mark.
Again.
If you're going to foul somebody down low, don't let them get their hands above their shoulders, because that will guard against the three point play.
Make them earn it from the line here.
Hollis The first of two is off the mark to yours.
Defense for one, No middle.
Get the ball of the middle of the floor.
And two, no layups.
Hollis Now with six points on the day and four rebounds.
Here's Moccasin off the break moccasin turns and the jump shot off the mark So even the ball be turned over to the lady Vikings.
Even though Taylor County didn't get a steal on that press, they got what they wanted.
They got a quick shot and now they got the rebound.
So it's basically one done.
And now this time Taylor kind of getting a chance Run.
The Rock.
Kirksey looks down low.
This is Hollis.
Nice pass up.
That's excellent.
That's James.
Yes, that is sensational.
Offensive three point goal by Ashley James Superb job They went inside.
Any time you go inside and skip it opposite, you have an open shot because the defense has to reestablish a strong side coming from the weak side of the floor, making out run the basket.
Smith From three point plan off.
Come on.
Back comes Russ Press, guarded by Moccasin Press Press dribbles through the floor, looks right side Now they go down low to Williams Williams stops and pop off the mark gets a rebound, puts it back up No good rebound warriors can't get it now here's Smith Take them all two on one Smith has Corning on the left wing misses the shot.
Well, don't get down.
You got to play.
You got to play.
Here come the Vikings.
This press.
Williams loses the ball off the dribble and the Eagles take over.
Look for Jenkins to play and make all the time out here.
Slow it down a little bit.
54 seconds to go third quarter and there's a time out on the floor Taylor County by 20 over Jenkins basically they've done this on the defensive end of the floor.
They've extended that lead.
They're doing a nice job with their pressure, making Jenkins County come down and taking the first quick shot.
Then in turn they get the rebound, they come back down, run their offense.
Well, they're having a three on two coming back the other way due to the long three pointers that Jenkins County is settling to shoot, All the state basketball championships can be seen live on the GPB website at WW dot gpb dot org.
All the games will also be archived and available at a later date.
While you're there, show your support by signing up to become a member of BTV.
That's w WW dot GP and his coach talk to his team on and of course you see the Lady Eagles over the poor little Jenkins count he's been down before in the semi it's landmark Christian they were down it but they just keep hanging in there as long as you have shooters you always have a puncher's chance because when they can get hot just as quick as you can get goal 20 point lead for Taylor County with under a minute to go here third quarter put this by grant but this fall here come the Vikings three footer to get it to finish he's taking it all the way in Kirksey looks down low in the half.
That's Hart and Williams puts it up and misses the shot loose ball near center court rest press has it Nice pass to Williams now it's Hart with the follow and she's fouled Hart will go to the line and Taylor County's now has has the two headed monster They're going inside and outside they've got the guards now that can combat Jenkins County plus the inside guys are just banging them to death and down low.
Shanika Hart is the tallest girl in the team.
At six two, she's on the left.
The Raven Campbell in the game now with that Jenkins and having you line the rest of us on the floor and then a coach, he just said no don't keep fouls run the offense you got to love that against the created the steal and the turnover So Russ pressed the inbounds and here's Kirksey with 20 seconds to go with third quarter playing for the last shot Kirksey dribbles and stops and pops in the baseline.
Nice shot by Kirksey with 8 seconds to go.
Excellent job.
Here's Moccasin with 3 seconds to go moccasin with the jump at the buzzer and it's off the ball.
Taylor County looking strong at the end of three leads it 60 to 37, the final quarter in this championship game.
When we return, broadcast of USA Basketball on TV.
TV is made possible in part by the following partners, you're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Girls single-A championship.
There you see Taylor County leading it.
Big 16 seven over Jenkins County.
Let's go to Adam Armstrong.
Well, thanks, Jim.
Early in the second half of the timeout, just 40 seconds in, Coach Trautman, despite the early run, was stressing rebounding to his girls and you could see it really pay off a ton of offensive rebounds.
A lot of second chance points really got them to build up their lead.
But keep in mind last week Jenkins County had a 22 four run in the fourth quarter to get back in it before winning in overtime.
So don't count them out yet.
It could be an interesting fourth quarter.
Back to you guys.
You're right, Adam, You don't want to count them out just yet.
I mean, anything can happen in one period of play.
We saw that yesterday in a couple of games from the Atlanta playoffs, two, four and five, eight games, pretty impressive games.
Here we go, fourth quarter underway.
Think it's kind of nice job with the defensive pressure right now.
That's how they're going to get back in the game being cost effective and efficient offensively and then working harder on the defensive end and banging the ball.
Express press stops and pops no good rebound underneath.
And here come the Lady Eagles.
This is Moccasin.
It's a good start.
Moccasin goes the distance, drops it up.
Nice pass to Smith and we have a whistle underneath.
That's a good series right there.
They play nice defense move their feet got the got the rebound on the shot came down on the break and now the clock has stopped and they have a chance to score it.
Here it is again.
Smucker's a nice dish again whenever your man leaves the double team for Smith, it always diagonally cut to the front of the rim and you got the chance to shoot a layup.
Smith has a nice touch on the line and by hitting these free throws now they're able to set up their pressure, whether it's a 2 to 1 press or a man to man pressure.
Smith hits him both.
1639 SHARP right there.
See, now, even though they didn't get the steal, they did a nice job of creating the turnover they tried to trap right over the halfcourt line, the sideline where now one defender can become three or two can become four using again the halfcourt line in the sideline as a defender.
So here come the Eagles and he got a full court trap on the other end.
Against pressure.
You all against any defense.
You always want the ball in the middle of the floor due to the fact that it takes away and he weakside help Cassandra McGriff took a shot fell to the floor but she's okay here's McGriff from three point line off the ball This is less pressure full court pressure as you mentioned Phil they're going to gamble a little bit.
But again, you've got to do that in spurts and you've got to be kind of controlled with it.
If you just fly at them, run at them.
Helter skelter killer counties, guards of rest, James and Pittman are two good.
They're going to go right by creating scoring opportunities.
And on the baseline side, here's Russ Press setting up the offense.
7 minutes to go.
Lady Vikings working it around Nashville.
James Thompson pops as he's going to get an on rebound and they reset the offense now Moccasin and she gets called for the foul possessions are a key here you cannot let me in Jenkins county Taylor County come down shoot Nance pull it back out Run time off the clock.
Shoot, Miss, bring it back out.
You've got to get on the boards.
You look for Jenkins County, maybe they'll start fronting the post, taking away that easy outlet defensively.
That's press guard by Moccasin Press press right side.
It goes to Ashley James the look for a return to county now to start going to have a quasi delay game here again not looking to score right off the bat rest press misses the three pointer underneath Williams Nice follow that's too easy You can't let that happen.
6239 Taylor County and we have a whistle in transition as well which the county is having here is when they throw the pass over the top of that press, they've got people other than Moccasin and Cony bringing up the ball, which is playing into Taylor County's hands.
McGriff and Bounds, this is GROSS And Moccasin now here's Smith the runs down of the basket Nice play by Smith now they good city defense go for the quick steal Roundtree Smith Patrick Smith had a big day for Jenkins County 60 to 41.
They find the post there and got the steals Excellent job by Jenkins County the adjustment like coach Smith go to the basket as it can drive to the hoop Smith with the shot off the mark rebound with the knees and good things are going to happen if you go north and south with the basketball nice time out throws for the nice follow Smith's had quite a game 22 points for Jacobs County but it's Taylor County with the lead 6243 with 518 left to go.
Taylor County by the way, has won a number of championships as you see some replays here.
Nice follow up.
Taylor County first won a championship back in 71 and 72, then one win in 1988, 1992, then back to back 94, 95.
So now, of course, the boys are defending champions the last couple of years.
But talk about earlier winning breeds, winning, and that's what it's all about.
We hope you're enjoying this broadcast of the great USA class AA state championship.

So yeah, you know, we talk about the winning tradition at Taylor County and it's been incredible.
They do an outstanding job now offensively Jenkins County has done then very successfully here the last couple of times down and have inventory Smith Just take the ball to the basket if the help comes he's able to dish off for the layup so take it to the basket every time and get fouled.
Here's Pittman Rest press in the corner This is James a three pointer by Ashley James You know that's the shot you want them to take a long three pointer like she stepped up and knocked it down.
Here's Don Tre Smith back outside.
It's McGriff with three.
Yes.
Nice pass by Dante Smith.
So Taylor gets it three and Jenkins answers with a31 big stop here.
Just get one stop at a time.
Rest press outside.
James thinks about it now, looks outside and finds Pittman with a guard trio of Pittman Rest.
Chris and James are outstanding to it.
Down this ball and they're going to call a jump ball and the possession arrow points for the Lady Eagle.
Whenever whenever there is a loose ball, don't bend over to get it.
Get on the floor and grab it right to the basket.
Nice drive by Smith Right on up today and being able to stop that all night.
6548 the lead down to 17.
Yeah a lot of times him a lot of time as we approach the now here's the play going in the fourth quarter out earlier going to run a four corners and bringing the low post by flash at the top of the key for an outlet right there the referee might think that coach that called tonight.
I don't think he did I think he just tell her to come out and it will be hard to time out.
Mary.
But the rule, basically the players at times would have to physically call a timeout but now coaches can yell timeout from the side so I can see where he says come out timeout and plus is loud in here I tell you it's been an incredible weekend of basketball here on TV.
We had four games yesterday from the Alexander Memorial Coliseum in Atlanta, the four and five a boys and girls championships here.
We had the single-A girls championship.
And then after this one, it's the Syndicate Boys Championship.
And then we have the Double-A games and the triple-A games.
We have six games in total today right here on TV.
You get your basketball fix the night of the league, leave the couch.
Here are some of the scores from yesterday's championship games played at the Coliseum in Atlanta.
Here you see Maze won the for a girls championship, beating Hephzibah in overtime.
Griffin Boys it over south Atlanta 7260 258 girls championship goes to Parkview as they beat Stevenson by six and the boys championship the five wheeler wins again 6356 over Jonesboro.
Here's the DeLay game.
Now what you want to do defensively is keep the ball on one side of the floor, get it out of middle.
Don't let them reverse it, keep it on one side and keep it on this side of the floor.
Ashley.
James, gotta go out and get it.
Keep it on this side.
Hey, yo, you want the long horizontal pass defensively?
Because now you can step up and pick that one off.
Gary Smith almost did.
Conversely, defensively only.
I mean, offensively you always want to make a diagonal pass.
There's a foul.
I got to get into the bonus here they have a couple more the stops the clock now again inbounding ball very important You'd never want to throw a horizontal pass inbounds because that has a tendency to get picked off, throw more of a diagonal pass back to your basket or preferably the basket you're trying score foul was on Javon Coney and we have another whistle and I think it's Tony again.
Now, what you're going to have here, if they keep this foul game going, to the fact that Jenkins County has limited players being only they play about six.
So you're going to lose one of your stars here or there.
Probably go to an offense defense thing where they're going to when they score, they'll put their defensive players in.
They're going to foul and put their offensive play in the game.
Ashley James at the line.
And the first of two is good think it's county has two opponents here, one being the clock they've got to keep that box stop and James hits them both Taylor Comp County implementing their 2 to 1 press to take a little time off the clock merkerson from downtown the shot good rebound by McGriff and a third puts it out there Smith and it counts like he talked about never left the offensive man get their hands above their shoulder if you're going to follow them do not let them get that their hands above the shoulder.
There's a rebound.
They don't let him get up.
If you do that, she's going to get a chance for the three point play.
Now they can set their defense on the make.
Smith converts on the three point play and it's 6751 to the Turner One more time.
Here comes the trap and and there's the third foul in the last 20 seconds on seven, Tony.
That's all right.
Well, the clock stops now.
People say, well, why are you doing this?
Well, now the pressure is on to make these free throws down the stretch as you're driving for the championship.
So the person may be a 60, 70, 80% free throw shooter.
However, when you crunch time, I want to see the percentages when when he's on the line right there.
There is the miss.
So back on the Eagles as they look at cut into this lead good defense by the lady Vikings Cubans had a tough time getting off early in this game.
She's been struggling a little bit.
Her defense has come to play, though the spot run.
She can't move Chris into Smith.
Here's Tony and now they look to regroup Chris Whiteside McKissic here's McGriff with the shot off the mark and the Eagles keep it with a three pointer is good but right now you got to you've got to get points so get the quick two then go here steal and foul as opposed to shooting the three because if you miss it now you have the foul and you're playing behind the power 35 second violation Taylor County will take over good defense by the Vikings on the inbounds excellent job you got to keep playing full court pressure by the Eagles and they break that pretty simply just press crosses the time line and now we have a whistle and this one's on ROUNTREE Smith.
Well, it's a free throw shooting contest now, I want to caution that Smith's first personal, personal epiphany, you can tell the players are a little tired.
They all have their hands on their hips down.
Oh, again, a missed free throw.
You see, the Eagles can take advantage here.
Here's Mickelson.
She lines it up and fires from three point land, just 6754.
The league now 13 as we come up with a foul flag and a foul and there's a foul on Tony.
One more fouls in the double bonus game three coming up next on TV, It's the single-A Boys Championship, Winfield Academy and Southwest Atlantic Christian right here on TV.
There you see it.
Right?
There should be a good one.
All the collection of talent in that game is outstanding.
And the free throw by Ashley James is good.
6854.
Taylor County 21 points the senior today she's so good.
22 Such a smart player.
6954 15 point lead.
2 minutes to go.
Smith Outside Tony for three off the mark Here come the lady Vikings press press gets it outside this is James Cross the time like open run down low nice play but she missed the shot Did Pittman it's a great pass Look up the floor found the open man it's got to convert on the shot so Pittman missed the shot then gets commits the personal and it's Cassandra McGriff at the line as you saw the Lady Eagles.
Well, see, Jim, they're still scoring now and then the clock's not ticking, which is very beneficial now for Jenkins County.
This allows them to set Lee the press and they'll get for a quick steal.
They got five right now, about 69 Now get a foul 55 and there's the foul.
That's like 6956 of the league's only 13.
You're not you folks.
We're still in this thing If we can get a couple of rebounds off these missed free throws, it's a long way from being over I saw James will over the line now Taylor County never does get to stop, so the pressure is always much on the first three when you go oh, so free throws are big down.
Then the structure, the shooting percentage always changes in the last 2 minutes of the game, 7256 Taylor County.
Now Taylor County has to get Jenkins County to use as much time on the back foot as possible.
Good defense in the corner by the Vikings turnaround jumper off the side of the glass.
Don't stop playing us Took the shot and looked a little discouraged there.
Yeah, you can't stop playing because you never know what's going to happen.
So it's back to the free throw line.
As you alluded to earlier, free throws, turnovers and rebounds are key in any championship game.
There's house numbers on the day from 7156.
Hollis hits close.
He has six points on the day and the Vikings steal the ball going back out Risk press has been everywhere today he set the tempo out early when they came out hitting the threes and running it.
The defensive formations.
He's been the quarterback of the team and for Coach Trotman his bench here shortly rest first with 16 points on the day looking to make it 17 and she goes 7456 Taylor County mitted 16 to go here Smith left he stops and moves it back outside McGriff and work it around the horn.
Moccasin tries a three pointer and it's blocked by.
PITTMAN Here's the three from three point play off the mark McGriff gets it on rebound and a foul be called on West press.
So if you're long game you don't have to close out as far do the fact that you can cover more space and that's a luxury that Pittman and both Kirksey half and Taylor can.
I want to provide for Kelechi.
He's a very balanced ballclub.
And Chris, at the free throw line, shoots an airball and the lady Vikings will take over fatigue has to do with that.
So we count it down as Taylor County.
Looks like they're going to win another state championship.
Rest press good, Skip getting the ball back.
And the fans of Taylor County are on their feet.
Look for both teams to put themselves in here.
Oh, so it's Ashley James going to the free throw line with 42 seconds left.
Big day for the senior.
Her composure in the first half when it was getting back and forth, back and forth was the difference in the ballgame.
She came down, settled them down, hit a couple of threes, ran the offense, set up their defense.
She was the key to the game here.
In response, Morris and Mitchell reported for Jenkins County.
Here's the second free throw from Ashley James Ashley now with 25 points on the day, a big day for the senior, three point shot off the mark by merkerson and the lady vikings take over with 37 seconds wholesale changes in Anthony Davis getting his girls have nothing to be ashamed about.
They had a wonderful year when a buddy group there's Russ Preston she's fouled by number 32.
Cassandra McGriff 7656, Terre County Dress Press now with 18 points.
He's a very clutch player.
His travel is empty and the bench should get a big round of applause.
He goes rest Press sheet departs for the day.
Good day for the senior.
Oh, way to go out.
23 seconds to go and a shot off the mark.
Live and die by the jump shot.
That's him.
15 seconds to go here in the single-A championship play.
Keep away and more shots.
But he stops and Pops misses the shot.
Here come the Eagles with 2 seconds one.
And that's it.
7856.
Taylor County wins this girl's single-A state championship over Jenkins County.
And there you see it, their seventh GHC girls class A championship.
And you better believe they're happy.
This one.
That's an outstanding accomplishment for those girls.
The shame that one team had to lose.
But that program, both programs, did an outstanding job this year.
Let's go to Adam and tell Coach a great game.
You guys come away with your fifth title, The student of the school's history.
Tell us just a little about the excitement right now.
Well, it's great.
This group of seniors that I have, they've been working so hard, been together for four years, and I've been here and been denied the opportunity to win it.
It's just a great feeling.
And I mean, words can describe, you know, how I feel right now.
But you have four years you've been here.
You haven't won a state title since 95, but four years here coming up short now, you finally got it done.
What was the difference in this game?
Well, the difference with these kids came here, I mean, with bitterness on their mind.
They they wanted this thing and they weren't going to be denied.
As I said earlier, it's all about these kids.
And they have worked so hard for this.
And they just they just they deserve this.
But you got you guys be the number one team in the state and you end up beating them handily.
A really exciting first quarter.
You guys came out both cool, just came out firing away.
How did the game kind of progressed from there?
Oh, we we told our kids in the dressing room that we want to come out and just sort of, you know, hold steady with them.
We knew that that was an explosive team and we felt like they might come out of here, you know, with a long run.
But we told them if that happened, keep their hands up and continue to play the way we play.
And we felt like we were going to have a run to it.
Just, you know, a fortunate night, one win our way.
Well, congratulations, Coach.
A great game.
Congratulations on the state title.
Back to you guys.
Coach Troutman, what a record.
And he still only has 99 losses, but I don't think they're going to hold that against him.
You see the presentation of the awards given out?
Well, that does it for the Single Girls State Championship, thanks to Adam Silver, Phil Hansen, nice job as usual.
Gee, I love working with you my entire technical crew.
