Live from the IT Coliseum it's the 25 GHC Girls basketball state championship featuring the Calhoun County Lady Cougars and the Terrell County Green Wave.
And good morning, everybody.
As championship weekend rolls on, I'm Jim Tanaka, along with Phil Hansen.
Game one features two teams from region to it's going to be a good one.
I can't wait to get this one started, Jimmy.
This game, both coaches are both teams are very well coached.
The teams play extreme li hard they're they're perimeter based and I look forward to an exciting ball game.
One of the key players on this team of course for Calhoun County as we look at them is number 31.
Shannon Coleman I love her.
She finishes extremely well.
She's got great wheels, runs the floor, excellent handle, great hands, and does a superb job of finishing file line and down.
And of course, Coleman is one of the five players in the starting lineup for Calhoun County today.
And here are the remainders the remaining starting lineup.
It's Miller, Eifert Mullen and of course, Sheppard.
I love him.
That's a great team.
I'd really look forward to watching Molden play.
She is the quarterback of this team.
No wasted Motion does a great job of dominating the game without dominating the ball.
And of course the head coach, Mike Williams.
What a great job he's done.
He's a coach's coach.
I really like him.
He's demanding, but one thing I really like about what he does, his team responds to him.
All right.
Now, Terrell County, on the other hand, they come in with one loss on the season and the one loss coming against the Cougars.
Well, that's not a bad loss in that Terrell County.
What they have to do is stay composed.
They have to handle the pressure that Calhoun's going to bring in.
They'll come out on top if they do that.
And of course, one of the key players for Terrell County is Tony Davis.
She's got a big time stroke.
She may be the best shooter that's going to walk in this gym today.
She can hit it from unbelievable range.
She can score great hands, finishes inside, outside an outstanding player.
So there's today Davis today is one of the starting five for Terrell County and here is the way the green wave stardom it's Davis and then Allen Spencer Thomas and few outstanding lineup both these teams are carbon copies of each other Jim with Terrell County being a little bigger and a little faster but watch for now Calhoun County to implement their full court man to man pressure and watch Terrell County have to respond to that.
And of course, Tammi Jenkins, her fourth year here as head coach, used to play here at the school.
I used to watch her play.
She could really go she could be put her in uniform right now.
And I bet my money on her some of the keys to the game.
What are you looking at?
I think the major key is mental discipline.
Both teams are going to have to stay composed and championship play.
Defensive transition is a must.
If you don't get back after a shot is up, they're going to shoot layups on the other end.
And I think those two things right now we have to look at handling the defensive pressure that each opponent is going to bring.
The fact that both teams come from region to that, that should be an interesting factor as the day goes on.
Here's the road to the championship.
Calhoun County, of course, they beat Montgomery County, then Bryan County, Randolph Clay, which was a good game.
And then, of course, beating Lakeview Academy 61 to 43.
Well, I think this one, these two games, this game today is just going to be an outstanding game of up and down basketball.
Terrell County has to stay focused against this man, demand pressure, look at their road to the final very beaten.
They beat Fruitland, Seminole County, Wilkinson County and then Hebron Christian 5342.
Take us here to the final game of 2005.
It's going to be a good one.
The fact that they're both in region two, though, that's the question I want to ask you.
They know each other very well.
Then the thing with that is they probably play a lot against each other during the summer.
I mean, they play in the wire, play heck it down at somebody's house.
And so these teams are very familiar with each other.
The styles are very similar.
And look for you've got to get on the boards.
Rebounding is going to be a key in this ballgame today.
First time these two teams played, both teams scored in the eighties.
That's understandable because they both like to play an up and down game.
Look for depth to be very important.
You know, silly fouls.
If they get fouls 75 feet from the basket, it's going to hurt them down the stretch.
This place is starting to fill up here at the Macon Coliseum.
The there you see many of the fans in the stands ready for the single-A championship between Calhoun County and Terrell County.
I love coming down here.
They both teams travel extremely well.
It's going to be an exciting ballgame.
Okay.
Well, both teams are getting ready for the the announcement of the starting lineups as we get ready for this this big game.
We've got a lot more games in store for you later on today.
Five more after this one.
So it's we've got a jam packed day of basketball.
If you love basketball, this is the place to be.
I said sit down, get a good sandwich and enjoy the day.
Phil, I know you look forward to this every year.
I love it.
I love coming down here with you guys and it just can't wait to get this one started.
Yes.
Okay, let's turn it over to the public address.
ANNOUNCER Eddie Ashley, young man, Take a walk up the street.
Nice.
Have him call the YMCA.
They can stop you back on your way.
Understand why I am seeing this on this day at the YMCA.
They it?
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to Macon, Georgia, And the Class A girls state championship.
Today's county.
We have Calhoun County Cougars out of Addison, Georgia, dressed in blue as your visitors on the scoreboard and the Terrell County Greenway.
About a dozen Georgia dressed in gold as your home team.
May I have your attention for the starting lineups?
First for Calhoun County at forward number 31, a five foot seven sophomore Shannon Coleman at forward number 25, a five foot eight senior to Rhonda miller at center number 22, a five foot ten freshman, because son of a guard, number ten, a five foot seven junior, Joe Donald Mauldin at guard number 32, a five foot five freshman, Shallcross Sheppard and Calhoun County's head coach Mike Williams.
And now for Terrell County at forward number 20, a five foot ten senior, Tony Davis at forward number 23, a five foot nine senior Schenkel Allen at center number 50 for a five foot ten senior, Antoinette Spencer At guard number 15, a five foot seven.
Freshman Muncie Thomas at guard number five, a five foot junior.
Courtney, do and Terrell County's head coach Perry Jenkins.
All right.
When we return, we'll have the tip off of the single-A girls basketball championship, Calhoun County and Carroll County.
Stay tuned.
Let's get it started.
Let's get started.
Let's get started.
Let's get started on this.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
As we get set for the tip off between Calhoun County and Terrell County, we introduce our third member of our broadcast team on courtside, Scott Kozlowski.
Scott.
Thank you very much, Jim.
I had a chance before the game to talk to both coaches.
First of all, they talked to Terrell County's Tammy Jenkins.
She told me they have great motivation to win this one.
That's because last year they lost by one point in the championship to Hopkinsville.
She says she's going to use that motivation to keep her team focused and she thinks they can win.
On the other side, Calhoun County Coach Williams telling me that his team needs to run the ball up and down the court to try to tire them out, he says of his team Plays hard.
They're going to win, he says.
At the end of the game, he'll look up and see what happened.
Back to you.
All right.
Thanks, Scott.
So, Phil, Coach Williams wants a track meet.
He wants to get it up and down.
However, Terrell County, that's tailor made for them because they have great individual scores.
And what a way to get her team fired up.
Tami Jenkins says, hey, one point loss in last year's championship to Hopkinsville to come out here, win this thing.
Just remember how hard you work to avoid feeling this bad.
That's what it's all about.
And we are underway off the break and a quick shot on the layup there is missed by Thomas and back comes the Lady Cougars.
Carroll County opens up in a 2 to 3 zone.
Both teams are going to look to score off their defensive pressure.
You can see that the intensity is at a fever pitch right off the bat.
Shepard inbound for Calhoun County.
That's joe dynamo more than the quarterback, one of your favorite players.
So there's a real nice job of running the club.
Molden drives baseline in traffic has to pass it back outside Coleman back to Bolden who stops and pops and misses everything.
Here comes the green wave defense.
Defensive defensive transition will be a key in today's ballgame.
A 1 to 2 zone by the Cougars.
That's Allen as the green wave.
Swing it around looking for the open man few from three point lands she gets her feet set she can hit that great good line there Here's to stops looks for somebody has no shot has patience right side that's Davis misses the shot down low Good follow up but missed the shot It's Thomas and here come the lady Cougars.
Both teams are very long defensively.
What I mean by that they don't have to contest as far when they challenge the shots.
They've got great wingspan with the arms effort in the corner and referees are deciding which way this one's going to go.
They got hits, three of them, and it's going over to the Lady Green Wave.
Here comes the press.
Now it's a man to man press right now.
They're going to try to trap the first pass and then rotate away from the ball and they break it, get it across the timeline.
So that's it.
And then throw it away.
All defensive pressure when the ball is in the middle of the floor, that's where you want the ball to stay against any press.
Keep it in the middle and then work outside in championship game television news playing a big little bit.
Yeah, it's championship game, but you've got to have that poise that we talked about in the beginning of the open.
So it's more than bringing it over the timeline for the Lady Cougars.
Still no score, almost 2 minutes gone here in the first quarter and a shot blocked by Allen.
No easy shots today Jim early and three point attempt is off the mark by Coleman.
Calhoun County has come in with Brittney Martin post played an outstanding job in the semifinal.
Prospering download and download goes and Martin shot was blocked by Tony Davis.
You never want to reach for you want those hands up and back, belly out, hands up and back.
So the fouls on today, Davis and Brittney Martin, the senior at the line, she had an outstanding game against Hebron.
Christian in the semifinal, really did a superb job on the boards.
And the first two points of the game comes from the free throw line.
Calhoun leads it to nothing over Terrell.
Good pressure by the Lady Cougars and we have a foul.
You're midcourt.
Terrell County has the luxury of the fact that again they're very perimeter based team.
They've got three people that can bring up the ball.
Allen can bring it up.
Few can bring it up.
Davis can bring it up.
Thomas can bring it up.
It's a great luxury to have when everybody on the floor can dribble the ball.
Here's Allen looks right side as Davis Davison great pass outside route point attempt is off the mark by few back from the lady Cougars as a great pass by Davis molding the quarterback dishes right side three point attempt is good there again that's why she got the spotlight but again a lot of her spotlight this is coming from Malden's ability to get her the ball in scoring situations.
Channing Coleman with a three pointer and it's five nothing.
Calhoun The Stop and Pop in the lane by Schenkel Allen She's a scorer Jim and it's 5 to 2 now.
We got a track meet going back and forth and we got a foul down under the basket.
Any time either team gets a rebound, you're going to look to see them going up and down because they're going to unleash a five man scoring attack due to the fact that they all can handle the basketball if you can.
There's your officials for today's game.
Larry Strauss is the referee.
And then the umpires are Jill Poole and Will Jones.
If you can run, catch, stop, pivot, pass, dribble and shoot without traveling, you can play this game.
You see Shannon Coleman's numbers making the final free throws jam.
This allows Calhoun County to jump in there, press seven to Calhoun County.
Good defense taken away by Lady Cougars.
Another turnover.
You got to come to that ball.
You really got to come to that ball against defensive pressure.
Can't wait on it.
Molden off the mark Loose ball Green wave has easy basket monster Thomas Great pass by field when you see somebody with the same color jersey on in front of you, how do you kick it ahead seven for Calhoun in four and a half to go first quarter 1211 pressed by Kelly great pass into the open man as MOLDEN scores two for the lady cougars That's the way you break it.
You go inside outside.
Break it every time.
Nine for Calhoun.
They don't want that.
Great press.
Nice pass down low even a better block by Tony Davis.
She's super.
She's a big time reactor.
She changes the play.
She's changing shots.
Check out this block right there.
She did a wonderful job going over the outside shoulder so her body would never touch her.
So Anthony Davis is one of the top players on this team.
Nice cut inside by Morgan, but missed the back shot and the green wave.
Take over.
That's Davis driving the ball from the Lady Cougars.
Stop the ball for Andre Molden and we have a foul down the other end It's ankle Allen there again what you want to do when you go to block a shot take your inside hand, go over your opponent's outsides shoulder and your body will never touch her.
So we have a time out on the floor.
She comes down strong, goes head up.
She got the block right there.
Now let's there's a turnover.
I'm telling you, defensive transition, which you got to have if she gets that inside hand over her outside shoulder there, Allen will never touch her.
I look for both teams to take it right to the basket and looked for them to score off their defensive pressure.
Start to pick up the pace there a little bit.
What's Coach Williams saying?
Well, Coach Williams wants to keep this going.
I mean, he wants this thing up to a fever pitch to get it as helter skelter as possible because if Terrell County is allowed to come down and run their set, they're a little bigger than Calhoun.
They're going to bang in the death inside adjustments for Tammi Jenkins.
She got to tell them to relax.
And, you know, heck, it's only 9 to 4 and they turn the ball over three or four times and then you're only down five.
So they're not that bad of shape.
They've just got to be a little patient.
Don't let the pressure get to it.
Come to your passes and just cut it, slice and dice that the trapping for.
And this is the first two she's a junior plays the point guard position pretty well.
I love her again I can't overemphasize enough.
She dominates the game without dominating the ball.
You see, a lot of point guards will pound, pound, pound, pound, pound and that go anywhere.
And Morgan hits the second of two.
Calhoun with a six point lead cook up.
There you go.
Outside the inside option, you beat it all day.
That's Allen at the top of the key looking for an open man has few extending out that zone to you guarded tightly by molden Allen loses the handle and back comes the lady cougars.
Count it Goodness you can't if you're going to foul on a layup, if you don't want to give a layup, you cannot allow your opponent to get their hands above their shoulders.
Try to complete a three point play.
Great play by Jakaya Shepherd.
Here it is again coming at you.
She got quick, quick hands defensively.
But here again, if you're going to Fowler don't let her hands get above her shoulders.
She misses the free throw.
Calhoun with an eight point lead at 12 four 315 to go first quarter.
What you're seeing now is Calhoun County is 16 ending Carroll County offensively there keep pushing them back further from the basket and that's all defensive pressure that's Allen turnaround jump shot actually came off the mark by key and here come the Cougars That's all the ball to break Mulder right side and the basket good by Coleman to open He didn't stop the basketball That's full court pressures playing a key here it can wear you down but any time you come down defensive transition against a break.
If it's a two on one or a three on two number one responsibility is stop the basketball.
So right here, when Malden's bringing on ball, you got to stop the ball.
You don't stop the ball.
Now she's going to get that pass and they go score every time.
Make them pick the ball up high.
That allows the rest of your defensive team to get back to help the Cougars.
The inbound Take it away by the green wing.
Good defense by the Greenway.
Those ball pressure on the inbound which caused that outstanding job.
A few from the corner in and out and looks like it went off the foot Blakeney lever a little tentative due the fact, you know, the pressure of the championship game, they just have to settle down a little bit and green Waco full court pressure going on.
These teams are going to mirror each other all night long.
Two, three zone look for Calhoun Kelly a high low option 1317 That's Coleman off the mark So that's exactly what Terrell County wants.
They want Calhoun to take those long jump shots because it will produce long rebounds, which will then in turn start the break the other way.
One, two, one, one.
Press Now by Calhoun.
There's two on a two on one side smart but it up a little bit smart didn't have the numbers then he scores right now that's key in the center and the shots off the mark.
Calhoun County is backing off her, allowing her to take that shot because she's taking that shot.
Davis doesn't have the ball in her hand.
Joe Donald Malden, nice move down the lane and the shot is good.
Coach Jim, She's good.
She can really play Malden with a slick move down the middle.
And it's 16 two for Calhoun's biggest lead of the game at 12 shot off the mark Thomas you Thomas with the follow now Terrell County's got a grasp they can't get all this back in one shot they got to play great defense and and action speed film speed kills Jim Calhoun's a little quicker to the ball today Well this is what Coach Williams wanted well and that's been very successful for him this year.
I could see that first game when these two teams play.
Having it go up and down will definitely favor that.
The Cougars, Brittney Martin's at the line.
Spencer's down in for Key.
Yep.
Spencer coming in the key taking a seat in the second is good 17 two for Calhoun You just can't panic in this situation The long pass is going to hurt you.
It's hard to throw over the top of it because they're so fast they can run it down.
Seems like malden's everywhere.
You'll be there all day.
That's Sheppard back to Malden as they reset the offense just under a minute to go.
First quarter.
If you have good guards, you can play with a lot of people.
MARTIN With the shot off the mark there, your turnovers, Carroll County already have six turnovers, but Jenkins probably lets the ball in Davis's hands more.
She's getting that rebound but in wanted to give it up some quick she's a star player that's how you got to get the ball to so the Cougars get the ball now with 34 seconds to go look for the double stacked tiger Paul offense.
I'm going to put two people at the elbows and they're going to keep kicking out the guards and rotating like a lead.
Now the what you want to try defense This is excellent ball question number one.
Number two, put them in on top of the stack and put them in on the inside of the stack in the lane because they're going to put them in this meat grinder all day long.
Two there comes the extended ball pressure we talked about.
They keep working in molding Coleman back over to Shepard.
Shepard drives left side the shot off the glass.
No good one second to go and that's it.
First quarter comes to an end.
Calhoun on a ten nothing run has taken a 17 to 4 lead after the first quarter.
We'll have more from the single-A girls basketball championship here at the Macon Coliseum right after this.
Yeah.
Welcome back to the Macon Coliseum for the start of the second quarter between Calhoun County and Terrell County.
Phil, Mike Williams just getting the game.
He wants the other side of the ball.
Tammy Jenkins is going to make some adjustments just a little bit.
I think, one, they have to relax this for one.
Number one, just relax and be patient.
Number two, you got to get the ball to your stars.
Look for Coach Jenkins to drop something where Davis and Thomas are more involved offensively.
The last three or four possessions.
Davis never touch the ball.
He's got to get it in her hand to create scoring opportunities for the Greenway.
And as you notice in the last 330 Calhoun counties on a ten run, seven of those points came off defensive pressure just like that.
Here's Molden on the break.
Close it down in the corner, gets it back outside.
That's Martin She's off the mark taking away good play by Sheppard.
Nice move underneath and a great block by Allen She's Sheppard's got great great defensive hands Watch for a dive play to the ball That's Coleman man to man defense now by the green way trying to get the tempo going Don't chase the run that shut the cut off the high post Coleman trying to get rid of it almost a backcourt violation.
There we go now to turnover look ahead and here's Davis now watch him jump right in the press Now today, Davis on the board and it's 17 six.
Look for Molden to get the ball and try to settle everything down here.
Doing a good job, not let him get it puts it as a trap again in traffic.
And there they go.
Ricky Martin, the third time out here shortly.
Excuse me, Munch Davis.
Munch Davis with the steal and bucket.
And the lady Cougars want to talk it over.
Well, right out of the timeout, Davis and Thomas got involved.
Got two quick baskets.
Now for the green wave, Coach Williams wants to slow it down.
Relax Now that went to a man to man.
Pressure Got us to turn it over a couple of times.
Let's get the ball back in to go down emotions, hands and run our offense.

It's nice to be able to click on the internet and watch these things.
It's fun and enjoy it all to do it all the time.
So now tell County on a four nothing run since the start of the second quarter.
Look for a man to man defense again watch trying to trap the first pass right just the matchup they want they want Davis on Thomas there it is holding and they lose the ball Here's Davis here's Davis a little quick good here's Morgan on that stop the ball has to stop the ball three on to his job by Allen Great job stop stopping the basketball previously in the game they would stop in that ball and Molden was able to get into the paint the dish and score great defensive play by Allen for Alicia King coming in for Davis Quick defensive player.
we can hit that nice cut nice play by Calhoun County as Shepard found effort cutting to the hoop.
my goodness.
You can't allow anybody to get between you and the basket.
You must keep ball you and the man principles offensively or defensively?
Can we turn around?
Calhoun County's at the free throw line by making these free throws allows them to now set up their press to apply their pressure.
It's just one effort at the free throw line.
Gary hit that front of the rim and watch this one go in.
I used to see that all the time.
The guard shoots an airborne, the first one next one, they knock the bottom out of it.
Here's Coach Williams.
There you go, right down the pike.
See that pass?
I don't like that pass.
That's a long, loopy pass.
And Calhoun County is so quick, once that balls in the air, it really belongs to no one.
And the defense is going to attack it like a shark.
Tony Davis is back in the game come bounce that's due Courtney to you double team look opposite gets to Kiki back out to Allen down low they go play by the green wave as munchy Thomas and guard gets the coach Jason Jenkins the luxury of having a big guard on the floor double done and Morgan in big time traffic and it doesn't matter I thought they missed a double dribble look for Coach Jenkins now what she's doing she's stacking her guards against a man to man pressure.
You don't want to make it a one on one scenario.
You want to make it a three on three scenario.
So if they switch, the screener should be open.
If they don't switch, the cutter should be open and then bring the offside back.
People hard to the middle and up you go with the ball.
20 to 10.
CALHOUN Here you go.
Good play here.
Davis stops and pop.
Yes, she's tough.
She is tough because if you go out and get her, she's going to blow by you like the wind.
Eight point Game 2212 Calhoun gets a big time Gut check by the Green Lake Nice Hill Girl by Brittney Martin and the Foul.
Ellen's got to get out there and contest that outside the lane that she got.
She let Martin get too deep into the paint.
Good pass Now right now you got to get that outside the lane And then plus you got to get your hands up and back belly out.
If you lean in, that's a foul play defense with your feet, not your hands.
Five points for Brittney Martin.
Chelsea, grab the board.
She misses that free throw.
Calhoun, now seven of 12 at the free throw line, even though the green wave got the rebound there.
I know Coach Jenkins isn't happy that Calhoun County got the rebound from the second spot.
Here comes the green wave trying to break through.
my goodness.
Another turnover.
Thought there might have been a little reach there.
You know, all great teams are going to make a run.
And what the green wave did, they got down.
They've made their run.
Now they've got to sustain it.
The Calhoun County has to do is go for the knockout punch.
Don't let somebody stay in the game.
There's more than the quarterback that suffered cuts to set this thing up and the ball hits the online and the green wave take over.
Calhoun County is doing a nice job with their man to man offense with that shuffle cut.
You've got to get on the top side of that or have the man who's covering the screener hedge Davis to key as the green wedge set it up in the frontcourt and three point attempt is off the mark by Allen the rebound by Davis is good she can score she really can score but that long shot and no if that's what they wanted long shots but he's long rebounds with producing and pass breaks the other way 20 to 14 Calhoun just under 5 minutes to go till halftime.
Thomas is doing a wonderful job on Bolden, not letting her get the ball there it is another turnover by the Cougars.
Here comes the green wave for Ron.
Two huge stops three point attempt and off the on by Thomas Back come the cougars You got to go to Davis She doesn't have to shoot it every time down the floor but I'd like to see her touch it every time down the floor because she is going to draw defenders to her.
Certainly has the hot hand.
Shepard on the right wing now takes the baseline in the middle of traffic and finally a whistle down low.
As you alluded to earlier in the opening rebounding.
If you want to win the ring, you have to get on the boards.
You cannot let good teams take one, two, three, four cracks at it.
You just going to lose on the percentages there.
Green Wave looks a little tired.
Here's Shepard driving baseline now now you just can't reach him you reach it's going to fall every time but to play defense again with your feet back in the game is Ashley key and taking a rest for the green wave is Muncie Thomas happiest player on the floor now he's probably good on a motion for the Cougars.
Thomas did a nice job locking her up 2314 Calhoun under 4 minutes to play.
Here's Davis on the bridge.
He's going to take it all the way.
She can do that all night.
If you get her the ball in the middle of the floor.
Now, you got a world of hurt because you got Thomas or Allen on the wings.
And that's a triple headed monster nobody wants to face.
2316.
CALHOUN Slowly but surely now, they've they battled their way back in on this.
Bolden swings it around the horn.
Another turnover.
He'll get it.
The Cougars look a little quicker than the green wave today.
Loose balls.
They seem to get him to second shot rebounds.
They seem to come up with them.
It's Jenkins is doing a nice job using her bench look to get him a player of a two minute Rask coming in with another woman coming with Thomas Allen.
That's not a big discrepancy show.
He's a golden rose moving cross-court pass to Coleman to go to turn it over one side of the zone in the box Coleman loses the handle now baseline that's Barton today again that should be a turnover that ball's loose kicking around every time you turn around the Cougars are coming up with the loose ball.
2516 four point pressure.
Here we go again and looks like another turnover Teague in every time there's something there's a ball on the floor, there's three or four blue shirts on it.
Check out this move by Martin going baseline.
She did that all night long in the semifinal game.
She can really score in the paint that's that pass go gets a lot of cross-court passes happening Got to be short diagonal passes Coleman barely hits the rim Larry wave on the run that's Thomas There you go.
She can score all day.
She and Davis can take the ball to the rack all day long.
Monte Thomas with two and it's 2518.
Calhoun with 228 to go first quarter, second quarter and it was fouled at the top of the key.
That's a tough foul.
Mullen's back was going away from the basket and they've got to, you know, reach foul.
It's going to make you old quickest coach great kick ahead pass and I'm telling you Thomas and Davis for the green way can take it to the basket because they're longer than they are tall They've got great arm span and can score underneath Joe Donald more than 14 points against Lakeview Academy in the Senate.
She's one of my favorite players in this tournament.
And here come the green wave.
There she is, Morgan Stills again.
Morgan Turnaround rebound by Morgan and finally a whistle underneath.
And this one's going to probably go against Monte Thomas.
And again, I'm just every time there's a loose ball the quickness of the Cougars is coming up big here for them today.
Seven points on the day, a couple of rebounds, certainly getting a lot of opportunities on the free throw line.
And again, that's due to the ball pressure and taking the ball to the basket that Bolden can create.
When she's penetrating, she's you're going to get a lot of layups and the quickness is causing problems for the green wave that you're having to reach and that's why they're getting the fouls.
2618 Calhoun County look up.
Here's two off the break.
Tries to feed it down low, passing in traffic a lot of passes in traffic because again quickness but when you take that ball into the paint, she really didn't get stops.
She should have taken it to the basket.
When the help side came.
That's when you dump it off for your teammates, for the layup.
It's a walk.
She can't move her feet the spot throwing Morgan with another steal two on one can pass underneath but the shot missed by Shepard and now we have the whistle down low Got to finish on that you got to finish when you get that ball that close especially in championship play.
Here's Tammi Jenkins.
Here we go under 2 minutes to go now till halftime three point shot by Davis is good.
That'll get you well quick Jim.
It makes you wonder why she doesn't touch that ball every time she's down the ten.
I'm not saying she has to shoot it.
I'm saying that I'd like to see her touch it because she creates mismatches anywhere she is on the floor because she's so versatile.
The lead is five 2621 Calhoun County.
One thing shooting does being able to shoot the ball effectively produces defensive rhythm because then you can jump into your press, come down and set whatever offense you want.
She's got a great stroke, nice five finger about with molden swings it inside.
That's Martin working down low.
Can't get a good shot off in the traffic few looks up has Muncie Thomas misses the layup Davis on the rebound and we have a whistle that's a dynamic duo with those two.
Coach Jenkins has the luxury to have here You have Thomas missing the layup Davis right there for a rebound but couldn't put it back.
That's but that's what you keep playing.
You just can't take for granted that your teammates going to make the shot.
You just got to keep going forward.
Nate Davis now with 12 points and four rebounds on the day, big league players step up in big situations, get the hands up and the free throw.
And here come the Cougars ten three Zone by the Kings.
That's Coleman down low.
Martin Another loose ball and a turnover.
Here comes Davis off the break Davis takes it the length of the floor and he's fouled underneath.
But I really like what Coach Jenkins has done.
They put you in the middle of the floor and then they're releasing Davis and Thomas on the wing.
So now once the ball has kicked up hand, you've got to your better ball handlers with the ball and then passing either to each other or taking it right to the rack.
Tonight.
Davis against LeBron Christian.
I love the ebb and flow of this game.
And again, both these two teams, as we said earlier, near each other.
So it looks like what we saw in the first quarter is the same thing.
Let's reciprocate it.
Now that the green wave is getting stronger, comes it for Coleman with under a minute to go with the second shot good in his 26 puts one in for a two point game I told you he had a game with that thing they're down ten.
This is morning over to Strother Miller in around there's Stratus.
The three point plan hits the front part of the rim.
Mulligan takes the shot.
Yes, she's clutch.
That is a big time clutch shot.
Three point goal.
And it's 2920 for Calhoun Davis in traffic trying to get over the few.
There's a few in the corner back out it goes to Davis.
Davis looks to reset with 12 seconds.
No play her gear tries to get it down low That can three sets up the ball Jusuf has got to take the shot shots up and it's good you got to stop the ball.
What a shot by Grant Niemann at the buzzer.
And Karl Rove goes to the locker room with an eight point lead.
Jimmy just can't stop playing.
You got to play an amazing shot by Martin.
As time runs out 32 to 24 at the half, you just can't take it for granted that they're going to dribble it out.
All right.
Let's go courtside.
And Scott Kozlowski, I'm here with Kelly and Coach Williams.
Coach, you have jumped out to a big lead to start.
They cut it back.
That three pointer at the end helped a lot.
But how do you assess your first half playing?
What are you going to tell your girls at halftime?
Well, we still got 16 more to play.
We wanted to get off to a good start every time we played them.
This year, they jump out on us.
So you know that three bone was big right there.
But, you know, they also went to a man to man and we got around it a little bit and our guard play shouldn't do that.
So we're going to talk about at halftime, try to come out and see what we do.
Good luck in the second half, Coach.
Thanks.
All right.
Thanks, Scott.
It's halftime here at the Macon Coliseum.
Lady Cougars lead it 30 to 24 over the Green Wave.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum halftime, Calhoun County leading Terrell County 32 to 24 on the court right now.
All the single boys teams that'll be playing for the championship coming up next, Southwest Atlanta, Christian and Randolph play.
Let's go courtside now and Scott Kozlowski Scott Thank you, Jim.
As you would say, I'm in the principal's office.
On my left, this is Daniel Robinson.
He's the principal of Calhoun County.
And on my right, Douglas Bell.
He's the principal county.
First of all, do Donald, tell me what you think of this first half exciting basketball game.
But that's the same type of basketball we've been playing all year long.
You won't find any better basketball when you find in Region two eight.
You told me before the game that you were really excited to be here, mainly because you have one of the smaller schools with 171 students, right?
We're one of the smaller schools in the state of Georgia, but we play hard and we try to get know, try to get the players out there.
We have some real good players that I wanted to mention while we were talking that not only are they good athletes, but the good academic black students.
We have 14 kids on the Boston squad.
11 of them are made the club students.
You also mentioned that you wanted to talk a little bit about Coach Williams and his success.
He's head Coach Williams is probably one of the best basketball coaches in South Georgia, girls or boys.
I've been in Calhoun County for seven years and he's had, I think, 620 wins seasons out of seven years.
And that's his top basketball.
That's play to Calhoun County.
Good coaches, good players, good athletes and good academics.
Thank you very much.
Now let's go over to Douglas Bell.
Douglas, tell me what it means to you to be here.
I'll tell you, it means the world for us.
This is our second go round at this particular level.
And when we lost by one point last year.
So we're hoping that we can bring the title home.
It's been a very spirited week at school all week, so we're just hopeful that everything is going to go in our favor today.
Boys team also went a long way this year.
Absolutely awful.
And our boys team had a fantastic year and we're very proud of them.
Talk to me a little bit about your team and coaching staff and what they mean to you.
Well, I think for the most part, our team and coaches, they are like family.
The coaches has been an extraordinary amount of time, not only on the court, but off the court as well with our with our with our team.
For the most part, we have one student already that received a scholarship today, Davis, to Florida State University, and we're very happy for her.
Additionally, our kids are here, the Warriors, and we just know that they're going to really be up for the task All right.
Good luck to you in the second half.
Thanks, Tim, back to you.
All right, Scott, nice to do survive the principal's office there.
Okay.
I'll tell you what.
Great game so far.
Phil, excellent ball game.
The ebb and flow of the game is just basically what we had to script.
Both teams are playing extremely well.
The defensive pressure is the key to this ballgame.
Second shots and rebounds and we have highlights from the first half to show you.
And here they are from the single-A state championship game, Calhoun County.
And here's Terrell County and Martin on the run.
Thomas can really finish when she's off on the break Schenkel Allen coming down here great defensive play they turn around and there's Joe Daniel Molden coming down on the other end pass to Shepard for the layup Excellent job going in there strong There's a nice feed down low The key six score down there Super job again Molden is running this team Excellent job again if he can get inside and penetrate.
She created a lot of problems for the green wave in the first half.
Now here again she got a little lax Great job again by Thomas.
They've been having a great head to head battle all night long Great pass by Allen way to go up strong by Thomas head up strong shoulder Put the ball in the basket now this is where he got it right before the half.
He can't stop playing with two 3 seconds to go in the game.
Excellent shot Great shot by Martin.
And here are the final numbers here at halftime.
The biggest thing I see there, the rebounds.
That's surprising me that this quarter is about average it out, both getting 16 and 14 turnovers, 10 to 16 excuse me, ten and six.
And that's basically the story of the ball game right there.
Yet nine turnovers for the Cougars and then 14 for the green way there.
That's your game right there, your turnovers in the points off the turnovers scores take away that three pointer.
There's your score Calhoun County with 17 free throws and there again that 9 to 17 And they've been to the line a lot.
Yeah All right let's go courtside And Scott Kozlowski he's got to be on hey over here with coach chickens and what did you tell your team at the half you came close that three pointer at the end of the half killed.
Yeah, but would you tell him to come back in the second half?
The main thing is I think we're making a lot of mistakes as a team.
Last effort and a test is not there was not there in the first half.
And the main thing is, you know, I told that we've come too far to start giving up now to keep it here.
It's up and it's just going take hard lesson.
All right.
It's going to be a great second half.
Good luck to you.
All right.
Thank you, Scott.
We'll take a timeout.
And when we return, we'll have the second half action for you between Calhoun County and Carroll County.
Next on GPB.
And back here at the Macon car, seeing the tail county cheerleaders on fire with their green wave, trying to get them fired up here in the second half to rally, see if they can overtake this 3224 deficit for the first 3 minutes of the third quarter are going to be big.
It's going to set the tempo for the second half, look for the green wave to again, go back to that man to man pressure, try to speed up in the halfcourt set the Cougars now look for the cougars on the other end to try to get in there jumping that man to man pressure, get the helter skelter in the back court and try to create quick points off their defense.
Lady Cougars will get the ball first as we begin the second half green wave.
Open it up in a man to man defense.
What that long horizontal pass.
I don't like that pass Joe Donald Bolden, quarterback of the team Bolden looks to drive and she loses the ball jump ball possession arrow goes to the lady green way molded and Thomas have been battling all day all day long I really like that matchup for the green wave due to the fact that Thomas is so long she doesn't have to come out as far to contain.
There's Davis breaks the press crosses the time line Shannon Coleman for the Cougars runs so well that great wheels Davis stops and pops no good rebound underneath and and put home high Monterey Thomas rebounds in the second half you have to rebound the basketball if you want to win championships 3226 Calhoun County 720 left third quarter in traffic is molded so that's all Thomas is doing right there for the green wave.
She's so long and she's obstructing the vision of Molden or Molden is having a tough time reading the offense and she's step by step.
She's just as quick.
Plus she's got the extra length.
Coach Williams called that time out as players running into traffic against these lady Green wave made time Nice put back there by Manasseh Thomas.
Defensively you've got to stay between your man and the basket the check out find your man establish contact forward pivot hold that contact and go get the basketball first You do that was Navy coach Mike Williamson, his lady Cougars.
He's probably referring then telling them, Hey, don't pick your dribble up so high offensively because then that allows the rest of the greenway to lock you up, man to man and deny the pass.
You have to play Johnson Sweet good defense by the green waiters molding Coleman on right wing loses the dribble.
Davis got away with a reach There.
Martin guided guarded tightly by Allen can't seem to make any penetration here Golden boot and some more man move and got a lot of ball dribbling Gotta get some man movement holding down baseline and we have whistles Coleman went towards the basket The cougars are got a little stagnant on offense they've got to get a little few more cutters to go along with that dribble penetration and the great way to break the press that's Thomas stops and pops Monterey Thomas she can shoot it and she gets her feet set.
She can really shoot 30 to 28 to lead down to four Again if keep trying to force these passes And he that's a bounce pass.
Basically it's almost it's into the post per se because it's in the lane but these long floaters are going to get you in trouble down the road with the cougars to inbound him back.
That's molded three way of a little flat footed defense.
So where's the help?
Nice move by Coleman.
good baseline.
You got to get some help side there but there Jimmy 32 excuse me 3428 Calhoun Allen too few doesn't have a shot down low it goes to Spencer that Dallas you Allen takes the shot off the glass and off the mark and we have a whistle underneath where they are A little fortunate there That's kind of a crazy shot by Allen but he did the cognizant thing she went and fouled the ball.
She didn't stop playing good hands got to go up strong.
You had to keep your head up, going over the strong shoulder, go through the contact traffic jam underneath.
Allen hits the first of two.
It's going to be interesting to see if the green wave can catch him.
How much energy they have used to catch them just to get over the hump, be the next pass in order.
Now loose ball foul is on Antoinette Spencer at the 5434 29 five and a half to play.
Coleman has nowhere to go.
The dribble double dribbles yeah that's from your defense pressure.
Defensive pressure causes mistakes.
You want to cut down on your opponent's thinking time and you can do that to pressure Allen inbound for the Lady Greenway Thomas Allen.
She's looking for some cutters.
Nobody's really moving out there.
Davis from three point land off the mark rebound underneath Allen's shot was blocked Here come the lady Cougars Nice job openings in their two three zone Good Coleman right side looks down low Can't get it to anybody now gets it to Barton who stops him Pop off Mark the green We've got to get better ball pressure there and here's Davis off the break.
Yes survey the floor offensively you've got to get more ball pressure if you want to get in this thing 3431 Calhoun County the leads been cut to three for 21 to go in the third quarter shot off the mark it comes Davis with another rebound You know that shot didn't go that one the bad shot Thomas from the right side yes the green way but then nice job of lane there is back and going right to the basket man Shake Thomas makes it a one point game 3433 at the 408 mark of the third quarter and a so the green wave go on a run they battled back and they've done it now off their defense with their defensive pressure.
Great nice job Way to keep her head up and watch the ball go to the net.
Gravity is going to take care of you coming down.
A lot of kids look at the ground and they take their head off, their eye off the target.
Georgia's longest running weekly high school's sports and academics program preps Sports Plus airs Thursday evenings at 730 and Saturdays, 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.. Each week, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
That's prep sports plus returning next week exclusively on g p b.
It's been a fun show doing that one.
I tell you what, one story after another, 13 years coaches, kids, families.
I mean, we just have all the stories that said at Georgia Excellence, pure excellence.
And there you see Earl County, Terrell County, out of five run in the last 2 minutes and 11 seconds.
I really love the chess match here.
What we have here today is the green wave again.
Now it's gone to that half court man to man defense now, which is taking away some of Calhoun's ability to penetrate and drive a that that last one that Davis got beat.
There was no help side in Calhoun's been unable now to get their pressure in because they haven't been able to score.
All right so Mauldin will bring it up for the Lady Cougars.
They lead it by one just under 4 minutes to go.
Third quarter.
It's switching on the man to man.
He tenders a screen, look for the green way to switch fuel was on molden very tightly Shepard pulled it off off the mark lay down and it's 3633 green wave trying to break the press and do a good job of it.
This is huge.
They work it around.
Allen backs a few she thinks about the three pointer now takes it and it's an airball and go over to the lady cougars not a you know that's maybe not the shot they want.
She could have got it probably a little closer with another dribble and here comes Bolden taking their time.
Coming up good defensive play by Davis in the green wave take over again that long float and pass is going to get you in trouble Thomas to Allen Cross court in the front court to Davis They work it around Allen Nice drives play nice got no better help side though defense a great drive when you take it to the basket 3635 to 49 to go third quarter good game so far feel it's a dandy the Cougars trying to get it down low That's Bolden with the back shot to coast They went big on small they're molding is a little quicker and Spencer in traffic Thomas can't get a good shot off Thomas gets the loose ball now it's a loose ball again it's Morgan on the break Morgan tries to go baseline stop stop No girl we have a whistle underneath.
Mo's doing a nice job of trying to take the game over when his when he got close ball and they reverse the ball so he's going against the lady green way 3835 Terrell County is not letting this ball get that shot off the mark by Coleman Here come the green way Allen in the corner Davis for three off the ball Good rebound underneath Spencer kick by a basket Great George get the ball above And even though it didn't go in Spencer did a nice job of getting that rebound Chin it and going straight back up round and round to win but there's telling miscellany he did the bounce off the inbounds and that lady green waver forced to call a timeout Good defense by Calhoun They didn't really move hard to the ball they got to get a sense of urgency here Feels like the pace has picked up a little bit.
Exactly.
Again, now that's due to the fact that Calhoun's been able Calhoun County has been able to score.
And when they're able to score now, they can apply that pressure, which that gets the game going north and south up and down.
And of course, Terrell County's only lost this season.
As we mentioned earlier in the broadcast runs to Calhoun County in that game was a 80 is in the eighties and that game was back and forth forth and back and that's kind of how they won Calhoun County wants to play.
And you see when Terrell County has come down and run their offensive sets in the half court, they've been very effective.
I just don't as Coach Williams and his team the lady Green way break out of the huddle 151 to go third quarter and the lady green waves inbound once a lot Allen gets it out Move it around here Spencer down low back outside few thinks about the three doesn't take it good defense by Molden It's knocked out of bounds in the lady green way to keep the ball that's got to be a bounce pass up and under bounce pass from FIU today is Allen looking for Spencer back to Allen three point shot by Allen is off the ball good he saved by Thomas here's skewed top of the key they look to reset the offense now good defensive play by the lady Cougars on transition back pass underneath but you never want to jump hit back because if you jump the pass the defensive man is going to step back and take and play the passing lane.
Because you're not Peter Pan, you're going to come down back in the game.
Ashley Key for Terrell County, it becomes the pressure.
Here's Davis that's back she with the ball in the open floor is that you can not allow her to get it there in her wheelhouse which could make the basket all day long.
Today Davis continues to line them up 3837 to get Terrell County to get the lead in this ballgame.
Coming up on one minute left, third quarter, the given goal.
Nice play.
Excellent job, Joe.
Donna Bolden with the score.
That's 40 to 37.
Thomas tries to break away and does and she's called for travel.
That's it.
One more extra step.
35 seconds to go.
Third quarter official Don't let her look at the floor get a ball pressure at Sheppard at the top of the key looking for an opening Barton stops and pop and another foul on the green wave.
I would never want to bail somebody out.
You never want to bail them out.
You got the shot you wanted.
Thomas took that shot a little out of control and you find the first, last thing you want to do it.
Defensive end of the floor.
It took her more than three dribbles to get there.
And you just want to keep your hands up and back, belly out.
So Martin's on the line and the free throws.
Good by Martin 4137 Cal, who could rebound and the Green wave will play for the last shot here with 6 seconds to go five four Davis stops and pops and that's it.
Three quarters in the books and it's the lady Cougars leading the lady Green Wave 41 to 37.
We'll have the fourth quarter action for you right after these messages from GPB Augustin.
I'm back to discuss just that Dragonfly five what's that what was the score at half.
Bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah.
3232 24 Cougars was halftime.
So that cut the lead by four.
Yep.
There again.
I thought that when Davis had the ball there was 6 seconds to go just go to the basket.
You either going to get fouled or you won't get shot off.
Yeah.
Those lob passes to Killarney.
Well yeah the turn it the speed Calhoun's quicker it went for 13.
That's Yeah that's going to get you killed.
Yeah.
And see and that's what they want they want you shoot one for three.
I mean long shots.
yeah.
That's going to get them to allow to run.
Right.
So if you come down and say all right I want Davis and I want Thomas to keep taking the ball to the basket.
They don't have the personnel to stop that because they're not as big.
But now you sit out there and neutralize yourself by shooting long jump shots, you're in trouble.
Well, they started to come back in the game, which with Davis and Thomas going low.
Yes.
I mean, that was it.
And it was they run to the three on two drill all game long.
Yep.
Three, six years.
That's what I was saying.
If they'd stick there, if they put their big people up front and break them and then you bring your guard the middle.
So now she's the secondary receiver.
Right now you've got guard, guard, guard up against post, post, post.
Right.
Because bigs because usually your guards are up in front of your press and if they bring the bigs up, the bigs aren't used to guarding in the front of the press.
This time.
You're going to have to hit on that real quick coming back right Ball.
This is updated, Frank 1815.
This is updated 18 and 15.
Okay.
Hey, Tommy.
How you doing, buddy?
Thank you, bud.
I appreciate it.
Just call the president, United States Marine Corps.
Welcome back to the Making Colosseum as we get start of the fourth quarter between Calhoun County and Terrell County, Greenway is looking to take the lead for the first time.
Phil, we were talking about long distance shooting, but exactly.
It's really hurt.
Throw.
County is one for 13 and that plays right into the hands of Calhoun County due to the fact that long shots produce long rebounds which in turn allows them to run and they do a great job with their quickness and speed of converting off the transition.
So here we go with the start of the fourth quarter, these two region, two teams battling it out for a single state championship.
Carroll County, again in their man to man defense, which has brought him back in this contest.
Another errant pass and the green wave take over off the break Davis underneath gets there basically winning a three on two drill the whole second half of getting Davis and Thomas on the wings, putting you in the middle and up there going 4139 with seven and a half to go.
Calhoun County's got to keep moving.
They can't get tight.
Just keep moving, keep cutting ball and player movement.
MARTIN gives it to Morgan Molden, the wing that Coleman can't drive baseline.
Let's throw it back out.
That's Martin there in that little shuffle Cut off a wheel.
What I mean by that is there they're passing to a wing sending the cutter ball side and one post is going block the block.
MARTIN The backdoor play.
The Morganza loses the handle.
Now he comes up with an interception.
MALDEN Right side, Coleman drives the baseline up and off the mark, rebound.
COLEMAN Off the mark again and it goes off the green way.
And you got to go get that ball.
Allen's got to go up and get it Dribble penetration will kill any defense makes you hit the rotate inside out and Shepard the effort for the shot off the mark here comes the lady green wave this is Davis to see if they can tie it up six and a half minutes to go fourth quarter turtle count.
He has a chance to tie it or even take the lead with a three point shot.
When touches by the Cougars.
Great offense.
Great offense by the Green Zone.
That's Davis for Davis right at the high post you saw the defensive men slip on the slide.
They reverse the ball and he had a free throw and we are tied at 606 to go 41 to 41.
The leader read the floor off the mark.
Here we go.
The green went on the run again and it looks like Thomas turned it over since it came.
But I thought our hand made us stay on top of the ball.
It doesn't matter how high the dribble is, as long as your hand stays on top of it.
He got a little anxious there, but I really like the tenacity of the Cougars.
They've just hung in here and they run in their sets.
Good defense by a few.
Again, the battle between Thomas and Molden has been a lot of fun to watch today.
That's Martin.
That's a good defense again.
Now Bolden takes it back and throws it away.
And that play was precipitated by the pass, the full pass from Martin Damone, and there was no space in between them.
Davis drives baseline and we have a whistle underneath.
She's tough.
She's going to take it to the basket all day long.
She's later, years back and going right to the hole.
Here it is again.
She's so strong and she's got great body controls.
But I really like about it.
She's she's kind of a glider that has so 519 to go.
We're even at 41.
Phil, what are the coaches telling their teams right now?
Well, right now, Coach Williams is saying, look, just relax, let's run our sets and so on and just be patient offensively, we're we're tending the bunch around the basketball like a bunch of bees.
We got to get three out to in look 15 foot spacing pass and cut to the basket and move in don't stand if you find yourself standing you're wrong.
On the flip slide, Coach Jenkins is saying this is exactly what we want.
We got him in a halfcourt set.
We're a little bigger than they are and we're longer.
So that means we don't have to contest as far.
Plus, we can apply our pressure and trap when the ball can't see you.
Big crowd here at the Macon Coliseum.
We've got plenty of basketball for you on GPB all day long, and this is what I alluded to on the turnover and this right here, the spacing right there, that's tough.
And the pass from Martin to Molden, they were standing right next to each other, which got Molden trouble.
Then she jumped to pass, which caused another problem which led to the points on the other end of the floor.
Good point.
So Davis goes to the free throw line with a chance.
Give Terrell County their first lead of the game.
He's clutch, he's a good player and Florida State's can be happy to have her next year right Terrell County's first league of the game and the second shot is also good by Davis and now the 4341.
Now what happens is Calhoun's got a right back.
But how much energy did Terrell County expect spend getting to this point in Terrell County's able to do all this scoring off their defense in the halfcourt set their man man has taken molden basically out of the game Barton with the turnaround shot off the mark and here comes Thomas in traffic.
The turnover down low.
I love this kid Bolden Lawson So gutty boy Brittney Martin putting home and now the Cougars come up with another turnover here look for the green way to call a timeout here because again in that press offense the wrong people are getting the ball You want the ball to stay in the middle with Davis or Thomas like they're good defense down low and Davis is tripped up We have a whistle.
I hope she's all right.
She hit the floor hard.
now here's she's going up in there strong.
She threw it up, but she never stopped playing.
She just kept playing the whole time.
Got her feet set and shot it.
That's the champion right there.
She never stopped playing.
And Davis is on her feet and doing okay.
I couldn't get any better in this all tied up championship game 417 to go this is Allen I like this They've got Davis in the middle of the floor and if she gets it there it's a free throw for her and she can make that all day long right in the middle of that zone.
Allen and Spencer playing catch.
Davis still the center of the key there.
Allen's got a freeze dribble One of the top guards whether it's either Coleman or drive right at Molden and three point attempt is good you've got to make two people play one when that happens you got him to kill Allen a three point goal Big bucket for Terrell County That's 4643.
Just be patient and make it layups Miss layup underneath by Sheppard with Spencer gets that rebound You see this all the time people bring that ball down below their chin you got to chin it keep it chin high and above you bring it down low.
That's where all the little people play on the inbounds here.
Davis Allen's a few good pass back to Davis defense block down low by effort now stolen away back again to the lady Cougars Molden got a drive They got to stop the ball.
Jim you can't let somebody take the ball 94 feet in scoring layup and championship play.
You got to stop it, lady Greenway by one 4645.
Don't stand.
You've got to come to your passes.
If you stand and wait for your pass in this situation, it's going back other way.
Allen gets it to Thomas Spencer turn and face the goal.
Every time you run the score, look to score.
Kind of pulling it out a little bit now, but you want to do a couple things in this defensively.
Just try to keep the ball on one side of the floor.
Don't let them be able to reverse the basketball.
So now you're playing five on three or five.
And Ford's advantage defense to offense.
Allen Davis drive to the hoop Yes so far sleep Davis gives Terrell County a 4845 lead with 208 to go Martin Nice The ball tries to pass it down low into traffic.
A jump ball possession now goes to the Lady cougars.
It's a good cut by Shepard.
I really like the action that coach Williams got there right there you had to have some defensive help but you can't let Davis catch the ball at the foul line.
Bolden right side Coleman looks to go Baseline Cannon Coleman stops the dribble looks for Bolden intercepted here comes the green wave and then the foul situation You got to look now for Calhoun Kelly to try to start fouling trying to get a quick steal and get a quick foul to stop the clock.
Terrell County with the ball and the lead and we have a whistle right now.
We're still got a lot of time here, Jim, to look for an out Calhoun County to try to trap the first pass, get a quick steal and then look to foul because they only have four fouls.
Now they've got to get three more and a timeout, 30 to go 4845 Terrell County know it's huge like you that help make great local programs like these high school basketball championships possible on Georgia public broadcasting to show your support simply visit our website at W WW dot GPB dot org.

It's fun every bringing these games to everybody statewide and every year we always have the most fun.
I love it.
Let's try it.
Listen here was Coach Williamson saying hey on just like Joe Reed to play a little bit baseball out here, we got to push the ball.
Then we did open.
You tried to shot John Terry, pushed the ball down the floor and look for the open shot.
I think that's great strategy.
He does an outstanding job.
He's trying to get the ball in uptempo game.
And plus now they don't need three pointers right here.
Each piece, as he alluded to, pushed the ball up the floor and get a quick two.
Then let's jump in our pressure, try to make a quick steal.
We don't get it foul and then try and put him back on the free throw line.
As you noticed in the stat there, quite a turnaround by trail.
Kent Terrell County down 17 four in the first quarter.
Now they have the lead with 125 to go.
That's the way you got to get like they're gonna have to start fouling that's Allen Allen double team trying to break there's Tom Davis they got to start trapping and following that that's what go get Spencer Allen to Davis Great job Corner's too few They got the fourth quarter right on the floor keeping that one side you're going to have to stop the clock somehow You got to get a foul and that's that's 5002 more.
Now you're making the free throw contest, but you have 20 seconds just eclipsed off the clock there by letting them pass and swing the ball.
Spencer inbound.
Got to go get it, but get a foul.
Here's Thomas good double team crosscourt to Davis set it back up to the top Allen Allen got a foul around There's another foul and only got one more to go now so the foul on Coleman another 15 seconds off the clock but they got to go for a quick steal again and then try to foul immediately Now off this inbound, the biggest the most dangerous person on the floor is the inbound or because they don't want to throw the ball and have that person step back and get it back for a quick shot or taking it to the basket.
Also watch for the Curl play for Terrell County to throw it over the top for a quick layup or bring it back out and eat some more time off the clock.
There you see Tami Jenkins talking to her team.
Of course, they lost last year's championship.
Their last state title came in 1986, but last year lost to Hopkinsville by one point.
That was a tough one.
But she's trying to convey to her team, stay focused for 41 seconds, come to the basketball, do not wait for the pass that his coach went through rooting his kids on the Lady Cougars.
There's a lot of time, Jim.
One possession ballgame.
Look for the Cougars to try to get a quick steal a foul and now you have a free throw contest the rest of the way Spencer to inbound.
And here come the green.
They got to get her Allen dribbling and a foul There you go And finally the foul but there again time 48 seconds when the amount of the ball now it is 32 so another 16 seconds those seconds are valuable They're like gold now on the flip side.
But if should the Cougars get the ball off a miss or if if Terrell Terrell County scores, they don't have to come down and shoot a three because you want to come down and try to get a quick two and then have them inbound the ball and then try to steal immediately, then foul again.
Big free throw by Allen is missed.
You don't need a quick 330 seconds to go with this one.
This is molden in the back court guarded tightly just throwing it to me table here Monk Thomas just missed Phil Hansen.
Now you don't want anybody to get behind you defensively here.
Switch on all screens.
22 seconds to go to the basket.
Don't settle for a quick three.
Well, now you're going to have to Martin Cross pass and tipped out of bounds by Davis when now you're looking at three two tied up here at the you can get a real fast 212 seconds to go they got to move it quickly they got to get that keep in front of her Molden looks for the three point off the mark and it goes out of bounds.
So they're taking that home run.
Three You're playing behind the power curve and it didn't go in.
So now you're happy you got a foul.
4 seconds to go.
Got a foul now Davis traffic jam and jump ball possession That was way for it.
Looks like we're out of time.
Holy smokes.
I think they're gonna make a move about the ball.
Jimmy, one second to go.
Okay.
There it is.
Terrell County comes back from a 17 four deficit in the first quarter, takes their first lead in the fourth quarter and wins it by three over Calhoun County.
That's just guts and it's just a great job by Coach Jenkins.
Superb job coach in this ball club Woodland quit Terrell County the 2005 class a state champions and will deserve great game by both teams.
Carroll County's ability to handle the ball on the perimeter was the key to this ballgame.
Defensive pressure and scoring off that defensive pressure won them the title this year.
The crowd loves it.
What a way to start off the Saturday afternoon of basketball here at the Macon Coliseum.
This one, well, this was electric.
The crowd was into it.
It was a wonderful ballgame to watch.
Terrell County wins it, 48, 45 over Calhoun County.
Now, let's go with the winning coach then Scott Kozlowski first.
All, coach, congratulations.
Your first win, their first championship since 1996.
A fantastic ball game, too.
How do you feel?
I'm very proud.
I'm very proud of my team.
They found bad.
He started himself in the first half.
They kept his hands dirty and they thought that they deserved it.
I misspoke.
I said 96, your first championship.
86.
But a fantastic ball game.
And you got to give some credit across the way.
I do.
I do.
They may have been playing confident.
I told them it wasn't going to be using lead, you know, and my hat's off to who they really played.
They're going to play well.
Well, congratulations and going enjoy this one.
Jim, back to you.
All right.
Thank you, Scott.
What a great ball game.
And congratulations to Terrell County as they win it over Calhoun County, 4845.
Davis ends up with 26 points.
Molden 19 points for Calhoun County.
Still an outstanding ball game.
Again, both teams are very well-coached.
Coach Williams in Calhoun County has nothing to hang their head for.
They didn't outstanding job A to even get here and be to play as well as they did through the tournament and get to the championship game outstanding ball game all around I we want to thank everybody for their hard job the technical team Scott Kozlowski for Phil Hansen I'm Jim Tanaka.
