Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipNow the prince Aminu Christian Wolverines have a relatively short history of football started the program in 2005.
Yet here they are.
And the class a private championship game against Eagles landing Christian Academy of McDonough course Prince Avenue over from the Athens area Prince Andrew coming in here 11 at two eagles landing Christian at 12 and one coming into this game.
Randy Waters along with Bob Hutton, glad to be with you to bring you this championship game.
And when you hear classy, of course, that signifies relatively small enrollment.
I guarantee you these kids dream for as big as this dome when they walked into the door.
Now, Bob, when we talk about Prince Avenue, they score a lot of points.
They average.
Almost eight yards.
Per play on offense.
There's a couple of guys who are huge factors in that.
They have two runners that are going to run for a thousand or over a thousand yards this year, led by Kyle.
Maddox.
He's on your left there.
He gained 600 plus yards, 22 touchdowns on the ground, three one in four.
The only reception you got out there on the right is price huff.
Huff is going to run between the tackles.
He gained 1100 yards and together they had over three quarters.
Of the running for the for the Wolverines.
And now on defense.
They're led by several good players, that particular Tyler Parish, he's the man they're going to have to scheme against.
He's a defensive end who led the team in tackles with 93.
But he's the man that will go all over the field.
He'll drop back and try to kind of play a little bit like what's on in the pros.
Well, Prince having averaged about 35 points per game, but an offensive they ever going to have their work cut out for him because Eagles land at Christian Academy gave up just over eight points per game.
And there's a couple of guys who are headed to D1 schools who are major reasons for that head north.
The D1 schools, the big one is of course they're tight their defensive end.
And also he plays on the offense as well.
And that would be Isaac Rochelle Isaacs going to the University of Notre Dame, currently ranked number one in the country.
So and they'll see if they can prove that.
But he's going there.
He's been a four year starter and he's got all the tools to be an excellent player.
Missed five games during the season this year and on offense, it's Kante Green.
He also missed five games in his four year career as a four year starter.
He's gained over 5000 yards and made 400 tackles.
He's going be fun to watch on both offense and defense.
Well, we've got the view from upstairs here, of course, down on the sideline for us today.
Ravens, Toronto Raven.
Hey, guys.
It's been a week of preparation first and distractions for eagle landing Christian Academy.
As coach guest welcomed in the birth of his baby boy.
You're right he was seven one half pounds.
He came into the world on Wednesday, but he still had to.
Get ready for the big stage.
This Eagles landing team has three straight 12 winning seasons face off by region titles, but they're looking for their second state title tonight.
They haven't won one since 1996.
Now, for Prince Avenue, it's a first.
They've never been to the big stage before.
They're looking for their first state title in school history for coach Cary Grant.
He said it's really a dream come true.
For spent a lot of years coaching in the GCA and would come to the dome, watch the games, watch them on TV.
You know it seems like we were always having a basketball term or something going on.
We'd have a TV going to see them and just thinking, you know, somehow, Lord willing, I got to find a way to get to that thing.
He found a way to get here.
And it's back up to you guys.
All right.
Thank you very much.
Raven Barba, what do you think are the keys to the game for these two teams?
Well, first for ELC eight, the Chargers, they just have to do what they have done.
They have won 11 straight games prior to last week, all of them by 25 points or more.
So they just in there, they've been number one all year.
You expect a lot from them and they have multiple weapons.
Last week they've won by scoring on offense and defense and on special teams, so they've got multiple ways to score.
Well, Eagles landed, Christian won the toss and they deferred.
So it's like they'll be kicking off to Prince Avenue Christian, who, by the way, we didn't mention this yet.
And this if you're one of our older viewers, shall we say, it's going to take you back.
And if you're one of our younger viewers, you might think, what are you talking about?
Prince happened to run the wing t offense, but it's it's not your grandpa's wingtip.
It's not your Prince Avenue.
It's not your grandpa 20, let's put it that way.
But the key the key for Prince Avenue is to control the ball.
They want that.
They want to try and take 32 minutes of the 48 minutes.
They play about 8 minutes in every quarter.
They need to keep the ball away from this explosive l good team.
The other key is to get ahead early.
And by that I mean not just on the scoreboard but also on first down.
You mentioned they gained six, seven yards on first down eight yards.
They need to gain at least four.
They need to have second and manageable and get ahead of the chains.
So on the scoreboard and then the first down, they need to get ahead early.
Well, Prince Avenue is coached by Mark Fariba in six season as head coach there, 41 to 25 record his 22nd season overall as a head coach, 147, 96 and three a 79 graduate of the University of Georgia.
And yes, your thinking there were some SCC championship teams back in that area.
He was a member of the 1976 SCC championship.
But while.
A student at UGA, the Junkyard dogs.
Right there.
Yeah, that's right.
In the in the through the playoffs.
As far as his route and his team's route to this game, they beat Darlington 4221 Athens Academy 24 seven and then.
Mark Christian by 1030.
222, the Eagles Landing Christian Academy coach Jonathan guess who?
Of course, he and his wife, as mentioned, just welcomed their newborn son.
On Wednesday, Uriah Paul gets into their family.
He is the head coach, graduate of the Citadel in the seventh season, 60 and 15 record.
To this point, they defeated Our Lady of Mercy, defeated Savannah Christian and defeated George Walton Academy.
That was their closest call among the three games, and that was a 13 point win.
Both these teams were in the semis last year.
In fact, ELCA has kind of been knocking on the door for a number of years.
Five straight region titles for them, but they just couldn't quite knock down the door to the dome and get here.
As far as the semis are concerned, last year for Prince Avenue, they lost to Savannah Christian, and this year is their first region tour.
Last year was their first region title and here they are where they've always wanted to be.
And I think you see the delta here has gone second, second quarter, final semi finals, the natural progression to the dome this year and of course for Prince Avenue just started playing football six years ago and now they've made three straight state championship appearances.
Well, that's, as we said, a relatively short history, but shortened doesn't mean lack of success.
Let's put it that way.
This dome is going to be the scene of celebration.
It's over the next few days.
I think we should also point out that whoever comes up short on the scoreboard, they've still had a fantastic season.
There's no question about that.
This is the prince of the Wolverines over their head.
Coach Mark Fariba bringing 11 and two record in here.
These two schools, by the way, have never met.
So their first encounter on the football field will be for all the marbles in the class, a private school to get Coach Lewis.
And yesterday, he'd never seen them in anything but film festival.
He said he wished he hadn't seen the film.
That's that's probably true.
The guy who's standing up and getting ready to kick it off.
His coach, Dellinger, had a big field goal last week against Hampton's Academy, also also against Landmark Christian, the last couple of weeks.
Couple of big field goals and he is going to kick it off to Jonah Doster.
And Carl Maddox.
Ernie Banks and Maddox, quite the speedster.
And that's the guy who's settling under the ball right back at the goal line.
And that would be.
A touchback as Prince having a Christian will bring it out and set up shop from there.
The quarterback for Prince Avenue Christian is a young man named Zach Graham.
He's only a junior, 37 to 71, passing for 488 yards.
He's scored ten touchdowns from ten touchdown passes and thrown five picks.
He also plays cornerback.
And you'll see, as mentioned throughout this game as saying, okay, this kid, oh, he's on offense now.
Oh, he's on defense later.
A lot of these kids go both ways for these two teams.
So they set up at the 20 yard line with Graham under center, Elvis Maddox in Motion and Maddox with the ball.
He's going to be tackled for a loss.
So let's take a look at the prince Avenue Christian offense.
Aside from quarterback Graham and across the offensive line there, they're up there kind of a senior dominated at center right guard and right tackle their leader, probably a Sam Cannon, their backfield, Maddox, Bryce Huff.
We've talked about them a little bit and Christian Payne tight end also a guy that they go to those can't they green coming into this linebacker position gets a whole bunch of help.
For this team and over the left side this time it was Huff You said he was a guy who would run inside more than.
Outside and there he was on the second down.
So they have a big third down.
Coming up, let's take a look at the defensive starter for Eagles landing Christian Academy.
They're basically kind of a353 defensive configuration.
The guy in the middle there, the nose tackle as Andre as Haley.
He's had ten tackles for loss this season.
Their outside linebackers are hybrids, if you will, either able to cover or play against the run, they hope anyway.
And their secondary.
The corners are Marquise.
Griffin and Jesus Terry and D.J.
Curl is the man in the middle for their secondary.
This is a third and nine Prince Avenue.
That when went nowhere.
So right off the bat they will have to punt the ball.
They gave the ball a counter, simply their fullback, who, by the way, gains about 700 yards as well.
He's not exactly a slouch.
They're off this wing to formation, but it's a No.
One.
So they dominated their self.
The Wolverines did with that were not able to do what they wanted to do, get the clock moving and get some time off the ball.
It took about a minute and a half off the clock.
Well, we'll see what the return situation is, but it looks like eagles land.
The Christian Academy will have very good field position.
Is Jonah Doster standing inside his ten yard line, gets it off cleanly, relatively short, fair catch signal.
Come forward and that ball's taken at the 46 yard line by D.J.
Kirk, the quarterback for Eagles Landing.
Christian Academy is a guy that their head coach kind of.
Missing, was waiting on him to kind of put some things in in his offensive package.
Dalton Etheridge, 11 touchdowns, four interceptions on the season, 87 of 29 comes out to 67% completion rate for Dalton Etheridge.
And he's got some offensive weapons around him.
And the guy who's done so much of the work but running back has jumped a ground.
He wears number one after a hands off Terry.
And he's got a lot of talent down to almost the 30 yard line before he is knocked out of bounds.
I think those but at.
The 32 yard line defensive starters for Prince Avenue Christian and there's is more of a basic three four defense than the somewhat exotic 353 we just talked about across the front.
For them, it's Wesley Christian, Tyler Perry, David Zeigler in the secondary.
Right near Payne Kennedy Campbell.
And again, you're seeing some of these names a couple of times, Graham with the corner and Maddox at the corner as well as he.
Goes landing Christian just like they normally do.
They're staying on the ground, maybe about three yards.
And then we're going I think we're going to go to the Prince Aminu defense here now.
Well, as I said, Brigham is is the guy in the middle for them linebackers Wagner Campbell, Cannon Payne and in the secondary Graham.
And Maddox on the corners, Vrabel and Doster on the inside, the safety down the right side.
Zach Graham They made the tackle out of the Wolverines.
There's actually eight guys from Prince Avenue that go both ways in their starting lineup and that we'll see how that wears out in the game.
But we talked about the start of this game.
It has not gone the way that Prince Avenue wanted it to.
They needed to keep the ball.
They didn't want to have this field position that they had.
And now they've.
Got a third and very short, deep in their own territory, as.
Opposed to the.
Third and nine that the conservative Christian Wolverines were looking at in the direct step.
That time went to one of their big play guys, Deonte Green.
Who has a big play right off the bat, and 23 yard touchdown for K.A.
Green just three and a half minutes into the game.
And they they really didn't they ran their offense just the way they wanted to see a replay right now of green getting some nice blocking in the right hand side, but then just doing it all himself to make two tackles there.
And then the third one goes in the end zone untouched.
The last ten yards.
Touchdown number, I believe 23 for him.
Now you can see why Purdue and wire to that UCLA was talking to Deonte Green about coming to their campus and the extra point tacked on so a seven nothing lead right off the bat first possession by the Eagles landing Christian Academy team and a short field took advantage of back after.
The 2012 GHC Championship is made possible in part by Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more Georgia's electric membership Corporation Lighting the way technical college system of Georgia learn more earn more and by viewers like you.
Thank you.
The GSA would like to thank the Georgia Farm Bureau as well.
That sideline there has to be feeling pretty good.
Had a short field.
Bob really took advantage of that, kept it on the ground.
And that's kind of the norm for both these teams, primarily rushing teams.
It was only played three and a half minutes, but it's already a critical time.
You don't have to see Prince having to get a touchdown here, but they need to figure out a way to get some first downs and just reestablish their offense, their vaunted offensive.
They did so well.
There's the scoring drive for plays.
46 yards.
Only took a minute and 24 seconds.
Now, I want to thank Technical College System of Georgia for sponsoring the scoring drive information for you there on that drive.
GREENE Two carries, 27 yards.
23 of those came on the touchdown run.
So there's another look at well, it's pretty much just an off tackle play.
And they made a big hole from there.
It breaks one tackle, another tackle, and he's pretty much right in the end zone.
So that's classic power football.
Both these teams like to run the ball pretty heavily to an extreme 90% of the time, but 75% of the time you're going to see him running with plays like that.
It's easy to understand why.
Well, we just saw a couple of indications of why Eagles landing Christian Academy average 45 points per game this season.
And they basically been number one in one day the whole season and have not had a close game since the game they lost last week.
As you mentioned, a couple of touchdowns was the closest anybody's come to since the.
First week of the season.
Dellinger This time, Maddox has it just outside the golden crowd to find someone to the right and spilled back about the five yard line.
So Carl Maddox.
Thought he saw some kind of daylight over there, but the door shut very quickly.
Well, and he took a long time.
He ran about 40 yards to the right side trying to find some blocking.
You're going to see just how far he ran to the right.
Then he gave some ground back up there.
And with this speed in this size, that eagle's landing has he needed to kind of just head north and south, rather, and east and west.
Now, good special teams play now for Eagles landing.
Christian Academy puts Prince Avenue back at their six yard line so first possession it was three and punt and this possession will try to make some and see what happens there huff left side nothing doing against eagles landing and again a whole bunch of eagle landing people there to make the tackle.
So right now it's it's really important for the offensive line to to move them a little bit because they're getting them before they even get to the line of scrimmage, before they can square up and start to do anything.
By the way, that was Ethan McGibbon, who made that special teams tackle as Maddox tried to go outside to his right.
So they lost a yard on this play.
So it's second and 11 nose of the ball at their own five yard line.
Zach Graham, trying to get his offensive.
Unit on track, burns off again.
This time there's a grown up over the 15 ineffective with a 20 yard line.
Those Bryce Hut had 13 touchdowns.
This season, a 15 yard gain right there.
Ready?
We're going to see the replay.
And I don't think it's hyperbole.
This was just absolutely necessary as a run kind of thing out of the back position.
He gets a nice gain and makes the first down a critical first down, nice blocking.
That's the first time they've able to open up a whole front and they knew what to do with it.
Again, running between the tackles.
Now they got to try to establish the outside game with.
And with Huff.
But Sydney Maddox back at the point where they.
Started their first possession, but some success.
In their resume at this point in time.
This is Maddox and he's up over the 25 to about the 26 yard line.
On a first down gain of six.
You know, it's usually more when they talk about it when passing.
Sometimes you just want to make sure you throw your first pass like a screen pass or flanker pass to establish something really critically important right there for Prince Avenue to run a couple of plays and just get some confidence back.
And now they got a nice game to be second down and manageable here from the 26 yard line.
Maddox This time is out to the left, back right up the middle.
HUFF And he is stop.
I believe there was see a replay here again they didn't that they could coverage there and I believe that was Sibley running with the ball back there on Connor Sibley and then he gained maybe a yard or two still because of the good dynamic first down and a manageable play coming here for third and three at the 27 yard line the line to make his almost exactly ran in the 30 yard line so they need to keep the ball they need some first downs here Randy.
Little early to say critical but we should it's certainly important under 6 minutes in the first quarter trailing seven nothing and a third and three play from the.
27.
He's got it and he got a first down the monumental tackle price half price up and again a fairly decent roller games on GPP.
But we're talking about this after the replay here and it's Bryce running with it and putting his head down and getting the first down in a couple of yards.
It's February.
I started to say, ready.
Sometimes we say there's a checklist you need to do here and, and this drive, the second drive of the game for them.
Yeah, they'd love to get a touchdown, they'd love to score, but they needed to do exactly what they've done here and reestablish that winning game.
Get a little bit of confidence.
Now, second, in our first time, ten from the 32 and so again almost to the 40.
Then they're starting to click a little bit on offense regardless of the game was not just the scoreboard, but first down, it's critically important for them to get in front of the chains and have a play like this on second down.
Here's the first down play.
Maddox almost running in the same type of pattern that has been so successful for Huff and a whole bunch of people coming up there led by number two Curl making the tackle.
He got seven on.
That play so that creates a second and three and only we talked a little bit about your star player, Isaac Rochelle.
We may not hear his name too often because whatever side of the field he's on there running the other way, trying to stay away from the big guy who headed to Notre Dame.
And that's the way a lot of coaches have planned it this season, let's put it that way.
This time, trying to go up the middle again and not much there for Sibley, but he got it down to a third and very beautifully.
You're going to see probably about 32 coming up here.
And that's what they need to get the ball to a manageable situation.
So they're there, their whole playbook stays open and how they actually look at it, it was just jarring.
Yep, left in the yard and they have to be encouraged by the success they're having at the moment of maintaining possession.
At the very least.
And they get to start to flip the field.
MAN Yeah, and they get to establish their personality a little bit.
If they've been stopped back at the five or ten yard line, goodness knows what would have happened in this game, but now they've established themselves.
Let's see what hit first on quarterback page right this one Graham sneaking in there for.
It wants to see who's running now we've been talking about all these eight, nine yard guys.
His running averages 2.5 yards.
So that's mainly what you're going to see him do.
You kind of see what what he's been called on to do a good job by the center here on the inside and the replay that we're going to see make a nice hole for that great camera work there wasn't that play there was pretty to watch you can I think actually see if he had freckles or not they had such a great look at him at the center there made a nice play and it's Jordan Williams that something really talk about those linemen when they make a penalty so it's nice to compliment them when they get the third first down in this drive.
And Jordan Williams.
The shot you saw him is one of our 12 candles we have covering this game here today.
And the 4 minutes in the first quarter at 730 and this is huff over the left side up to the 47 yard line.
Again, the first half, about three or four yards on first down in that as well as they did on the first time and a couple of other ones.
But it gets the chain.
It gets him ahead of the chains, which is just I don't want to sound like a broken record, but it's just critical.
They've already had this ball now for 5 minutes.
Their goal is to have the ball for 8 minutes in this quarter.
If they get into their first down here, they're going to have it for about 10 minutes in the quarter.
Tough has been a bit of a workhorse.
Five carries already in the game for him 20.
Eight yards and they come up with second and six just shy of the 47 yard jam at that would be fortunate.
For him if it's mark back at the line of scrimmage, it's going to be awfully close to where the ball is.
Snap, who manages their big play guy.
It's clear they want to get him sprung out there, but every time they've tried to go wide, it is met with great resistance, little or no gain at any of the wide plays where they're making.
It is between the tackles, whether it's him winning the ball or simply running with the ball, or of course, mainly Huff.
So I think they're going have the state of the inside game.
If this is not a play they want now third and seventh, sometimes you'd be thinking pastors and there is no chance, no one thing they need to.
I think they just can't come up with anything to talk about.
They don't like to kick the ball.
So at midfield they may very well be in four down territory.
So they might be thinking they've got two plays to make this seven yards.
Instead of conceding that they've got to get it all in this play, especially if they get two or three yards, I don't think they'll pick it.
Well, talk about ball control.
This is the 11th play of a drop in thrust and a little cross midfield.
That's terrific.
However, this is key.
It is a third and six and the handoff this time and he's going to lose a couple of yards.
And the Eagles land landing Christian has made a.
Defensive stand on third down and now said what I said earlier.
I think on fourth down and nine, you've got to kick the ball here comes in there kicking ten.
If they'd gotten two or three yards forward instead of backwards, they might have gone for it.
But at this point, they've got to, as you said, flip the field.
You know, we talked about the offense staying away from this guy and for good reason.
He's committed to the Fighting Irish and Notre Dame.
Isaac Rochelle, there he is, 88.
As Jonah Doster gets ready to punt for the second time in this game for Prince Avenue.
For your start with three chargers, you can't come.
Good job.
It's probably going to be on the special teams.
He had some space to make, but they just couldn't.
They really couldn't.
Find a chance for him.
So they got about two yards conversions, the 33 yard punt.
Don't forget Sunday tune in.

Watch Georgia out for the water's edge this Sunday.
730 shows absolutely stunning and it steps you back in time.
To how things used to be done.
On a first down.
With under a minute to go in the first quarter breaking into daylight eagles Len Christian yet.
Another big play this is Marquese Griffin and they like to bring him around on the end around there and he did a very effective job.
Are you going to see a bread and butter staple of their team?
18 yard gain on that play and we have a player down on the field.
That's the reason for the official timeout.
One of the Prince Avenue defenders can't get an eye yet on who it is, but both teams will head back to their respective sidelines.
So let's take a look at the Eagles landing Christian Academy resumé as to how they got here and what they've accomplished recently.
We sit semifinals last year, three straight 12 win seasons.
It doesn't get much better than this, except it did get better.
They're here.
The championship game, they've been kind of pointing to this.
I thought it was really interesting.
We got a chance to talk to him yesterday that he talked about last year's senior class, maybe being disappointed.
They didn't get that.
Maybe for sure disappointed they didn't get to the dome.
But they can take a lot of pride that they established this tradition at that Eagles landing.
And he particularly talked about the young man who went on to play at North Carolina, Thompson, that he said, just set such a tone.
He feels this year seniors have set a tone for the underclassmen and they think they can keep this thing going.
But there's no doubt, Randi, as you said, they've been looking at this team since middle school.
The injured player and he is this is good news walking off under his own power.
Zach Riegel for Prince Avenue Christian.
There he goes.
So hopefully we'll see him again, but they'll make sure, obviously, that he is okay before he would come back into this game.
Renee, we talked about the importance of Prince Aminu getting a first down.
Now it's really important for them to stop him just just that even if they can get it to like second and eight or something like that, just to not get that, they need a more beginning defense, just like they got it on offense 64 yards and five carries so far on the ground for ELC that carry right there, does it result in the productivity they've had at this point?
Lane Timpson On the carry for Eagles Lane in last week, Timpson got a lot of work.
Is that is that is wouldn't tell from where he's playing in offense and defense but he's been nursing a high ankle sprain he actually missed by age he didn't play offense last week so Simpson had a nice game.
There and he gained four yards on first down spread offense.
But as their coach told us, this brings out the runner, not necessarily to throw on the second and sixth place, but they do indeed run it and that's green.
He's going to be a couple of yards shy of the first down.
So as the first quarter ends, Eagles landing, Christian won the second quarter begins with be looking at a third and about.
To try to pick up a first down and keep this possession alive.
They lead by scoring seven nothing.
310 When he tried to make the stand, he was landing trying.
And in the event.

And the Christian Academy meeting.
Prince Avenue by the score of seven nothing.
Although the time of possession is exactly opposite of what that scoreboard says, he'll hit the ball for two, 24, seven and 9 minutes and 40 seconds, but ELCA took advantage of the 220 and to short field to get a touchdown the first possession.
You may recognize this guy, Richard Bell's defensive coordinator for Prince Avenue.
A lot of experience at the D1 coach at South Carolina, worked for Coach Dooley and also Coach Goff over at Georgia was an air force for a number of years and then just decided he missed working with young people.
And boy, what a coup for Prince Avenue to get him into their camp to be their defensive coordinator.
Got a big player on third down, but I got a comment to make about that after this next play.
Randy Third and two, it's going to be third and something else after that.
The guy you saw in motion was D.J.
Curl, looked like the defense jumped.
The missing were drawn.
I think they were really working on it.
So that changes the play considerably from third and garden on their defense to be five yard run that they started down referee's very hot good with the call for us and you know exciting it is for them to be doing a state championship game.
I have some friends that are referees and they.
Are just working their tails off.
Just trying to get great hang up refereeing and that that's a chatter for them as well.
Right, third and seven.
And Etheridge looks like he wants to throw.
For the first time.
And he's got Davis Caron the wide open, and he's inside the 30.
Five yard line.
He has got almost half the receptions on this team.
They said he's not fast.
He just catches the ball and gets open and that's it.
Watch this classic example of a receiver who just finds that little spot open and then the quarterback gets in the ball, his 41st reception of the year and a team that only has 87 passes like pass completions all year.
So just under half of them.
First and 10th coaching staff told.
Us he has great hands.
He's not going to outrun people, but he hit right now and trying to get down outside if he did.
Inside the 20 yard line.
I just wanted to go back and talk about Richard Bell for 1/2.
You know, the schools that have split off play in the public school, one of the things they complain about is that the coaching look at a nick in a former NFL coach and that made Division one coach to come back and coach.
That's something that's very, very tough to for those smaller schools to about here's Griffin again making the run around side that's a staple their offense from that wing position for him and there's coach Bell just imagine being able to have somebody like that come and be part of your team.
It's a huge advantage to Prince and the first in ten at the 20 yard line and down inside the 20 to about the 17 is K.A.
Green, and he looks like he's enjoying himself.
I'm sure that the pressures that everybody else here is at a certain level, but he's been here.
He's probably pick some stabilization.
But you think, yeah, you need that balance.
I think you need young coaches who are trying to work the way of a young coach right there, 33 years old.
That's right side young father, first time father as well, both second and seventh.
We know we got three yesterday.
And here's Curry shooting.
That's not going to be a first down.
They'll be shy, so they'll face a third down situation.
They need to get to the ten.
It was actually Dalton running with the ball.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
My fault.
I saw the two.
That was only half the story.
Yes.
Well, it's now third down and four again, another chance for Prince out these two to try and hold him there.
I think this is, again down territory.
So let's see what they call important, manageable burden for him before they get the playoff.
I think that was that timeout was called by Prince Avenue.
Richard Bell, obviously saw something that he wanted corrected before Eagles land could snap the ball with third and four.
Okay, here we go.
A chance to see just how easily they have run through since that first game.
And we see their season schedule.
Look at those 25 points or more in every game.
For the second game through last week, they won by more than 25 points and even last week they still won by 13.
But at 27 to 14, game was a lot closer than that score indicates.
They got to hit 20 to nothing and a running back in the open kickoff an intercept blocked kick in an interception that's how they got to a 28 nothing lead they had their hands full.
I think you were talking to one of the coaches on the sidelines today and said there's some big kids that at George Walton Academy.
But other than that, they kind of rolled through, you know, there's one six week stretch, their six game stretch, maybe I should say, where they had four shutouts and then the other two games gave up the grand total of 9.3 and one and six in another.
So and we've been talking more about their offense and their 45 points in this game.
I think they've got a darn good defense, too.
And that statistic that you just picked out of those scores demonstrates that this is a third and fourth.
Robin Griffin in Motion took the handoff from green and there's plastic hammer back there with him.
What a.
Defensive penetration.
Now it's three.
This happened to be back to ten yards.
The interesting to see if they kick it they went wildcat here and green had the ball and he handed the ball to running maker Griffin and they were ready for that one and stopped it cold.
That was a Sam Cannon.
And he's the young.
Man that they talked about so much last night.
You talk about another guy with his motor running.
They said he's not sure if he's going to go to college to play football, he's going to be a he's going to be a lawyer and somebody is going to be a politician in your state.
So remember that name, Sam Cane?
Well, riverboat gambler might describe the city right here because they're going for it on fourth and ten and they're stuck by the 20 yard line, not even close to the first down.
And so Prince Avenue.
Makes a defensive stand and they needed a trailing seven nothing.
We talked about the moral victory.
They got an offense when they kept the ball for almost 7 minutes and moved the ball to midfield, got a few first downs.
That was more than a moral victory right here.
They kept them off the scoreboard.
And look at Richard Bell down there on the sidelines.
He dialed up something during that time out.
Sometimes they say save your timeouts for the game.
That was a very earned end the half.
That was a great timeout.
Calling two great defensive plays to turn the ball over for Prince, having oh so Zach Graham brings his unit out.
On his wing to offense with the first down on the 21 yard line.
Often motion gets the handoff gets to the 25 and beyond they're very this game and first time let's go down on the sideline the ringer.
Hey, thanks, guys.
You were talking about Richard Bell, the defensive.
Coordinator for Eagles Landing.
This guy's got quite the resume.
As you mentioned, he'd work for the Air Force for 14 years.
He had a year at South Carolina, and he also was on Dooley's last team.
So he has quite the college resume.
Back up to you guys.
Second down and two here, a nice gain on first down made a mental note.
This drive started with 9 minutes and 37 seconds.
They'd love to see this them almost run this entire Russell's half if they could so let's see what they.
Can do on second down and eight on first second and two and oh the rim and it's going to be third and three in that neighborhood anyway because as you said.
ELCA was ready indeed for that one.
Chase Burdette, a freshman, shutting the door right there on the Wolverines offense.
And there was also Joe, the pastor, who and we were down before the start of the game because they were really trying to keep him loose.
They were very worried about him tightening up.
And I guess when you make a play like that, you keep getting tough, real loose, don't you?
It's that big play, Randy, for Prince Avenue.
They need a first down here just to keep the ball away from Eagles landing and to get that momentum back.
Let's see what they come up with.
Third in three.
We're going to have to put it away.
But I was just going to say that they lined everybody up on the left side there.
So they he goes and he knew I could see up here what they were going to do.
I think eagles landing, he could see pretty clearly they stacked it to the left side and here they came and they were ready for this one.
And again, not to say one other way, but this might have been the time for them to try to run the quarterback out with everybody going left, let him kind of go sneak out to the right side and keep the ball there.
But that's second that's a monday morning quarterbacking on a Friday afternoon.
Doster back to punt for the third time, D.J.
Curl stands just inside his 40 under 8 minutes in the second quarter.
Right.
The late game perhaps.
Yep.
By Clemson all the way up the 40 yard line but they know they do have the clock here that they did they're not used to having in the field.
So that's even a little bit more of an excuse that they shouldn't have that happen.
They don't do lamb especially at one.
Eight on the offense.
Assembly of five yards.
So fourth down.
It's staring right at him staring right now.
I'll say this in defense of these kids, Matt Ryan knows where that clock is in here.
But this is the first time they've been in the building.
So so you kind of understand in some ways, but nonetheless, five yards to the negative to Prince Allen, who didn't need.
And that could very easily put the Eagles landing on the other side of the 50.
Again, staying with good field position.
All right.
It's an eight.
What a gamble.
And it's paid off.
It's paying off big time.
That's the first time they've been able to get to the four man game going there.
That's Maddox making his first down on the fake and they pulled it out.
We're going to see it right here.
He was acting like this was going to be a blocking back end and the snap came directly to him 42 yards on the play, which was fourth down and forever in their own territory, and kind of a late hit on that when they could have added 15 more yard.
So we're going to see it one more time from the wide angle here.
Look how much green, green, astroturf he had in front of him in the rise.
He gets 47, does not get the.
Herschel fight.
From 15 yards and it will be a first down.
It's going to be 57 yards by mid the.
Midwestern.
Math works right.
There, 42 plus 15 when you consider the punting punter was standing inside his 15 yard line and now they're going to snap the ball at the ELC 821 A turn of events you talk about coaches want to win, they're pulling out all stops here midway through this quarter.
The second quarter, they needed to do something.
Now let's see what they can do with.
The momentum at the 20 yard line.
Oh, you cannot get outside.
But they have had no success with the exception of the fake there of getting their big play guys outside.
And it looked like based on what happened before the fake punt, that they were starting to figure out how to stop the inside too.
So yeah, that's where that's coming.
That's Rochelle's helmet.
Look at that there.
I said he's a four year starter.
I think he's had that helmet for four years.
That's a working man's Hellboy that is out there that that's a four year starter on the same helmet.
For four years.
They want to look at that person.
That's a guy who brings his lunch pail.
The cardinal says, What do you want me to do?
And let's give credit to Steve going, That's fine.
Producer for catching that to us makes us look look pretty good there Randy no relation of quarterback Zach Brown at least that we know well we've got his some of his only daughters helping in the field thank his daughters, the red hat down there to tell us when we can play.
And we have the style as well.
Where we can go.
Well, we can tells us that we're going to take a look at the Rangers, take a look at the Wolverines and a little bit of history on them.
Look at these last two seasons.
And if you consider that they started their.
Program.
Just seven.
Years ago.
I mean, that's amazing.
I understand they have something, son.
I know it doesn't count.
And he has some great facilities that friends have.
These facilities are every bit as good or better than Athens Academy.
And again, we'll talk a little bit about this.
It's kind of the elephant in the room, this private school, public school.
You're going to see the public schools play tomorrow.
I think what started it last year when all four schools in the final Four were the private schools, but they do have some facilities.
They have the ability to bring in a coach like Richard Bell and build this program in seven years.
Now, the converse is Lincoln County, Wilcox County, Clinch County.
They've got tradition.
People grow up from there, five years old, one there she is and they're four.
When Steve Graham's daughter tell us what we can and can't play.
But so there's some advantages that those other towns have as well.
And, you know, it's interesting to be on the sixth player, the ground, the second inning and the cup is stuck, stonewalled by that.
ELC eight defense once again and again.
That's one of their bread and butter plays and they've seemed to have that worked a few times early on, but it does not work here.
And now they've got 31.
And again, Randi, I don't think they have a lot of confidence in their kicking game.
So this is for down territory.
They need to get some yards here to make fourth down manageable.
Junior Andrew Williams you saw him was in on that play defensively and they still haven't gotten the Maddox loose except on the thing that was Huff's 11th.
He's in motion right there.
But there's a whistle, as Graham coming out of there with the ball.
But I'll stop for everybody.
Yeah, I think there is movement on the offense there, so that's going to take a third and long and make it extra long.
Make it third and 14 now and that's not exactly where Terence Avenue wants to be when you run the ball 90% of the time.
Here's the call.
I'll start on the offense.
She'll be a five yards to play third down.
The line to make is the ten they take the line for them to not try and kick a field goal is the 15 although I think their coach said that he would feel very iffy.
Anything beyond 35 yards.
So they're beyond that right now.
So they're in no man's land right now.
They need to call a play every bit as tricky as the fake punt, I think.
Yeah, I was about to say after the fake punt, I'm ready for almost anything from these guys.
All right.
Are you ready for a pass?
Well, I might see one of those here.
They did pass it when they need to last week.
Let's see what they do on third and one third and 14 that stayed stayed with the bread and butter.
But ELCA was not buying it.
There was the fullback running with the ball there and they just again, it's that one man making the tackle for four Eagles landing.
It was three or four there and making it.
And there's another guy with a pretty beaten up helmet making the tackle.
Yeah.
WILLIAMS in there again, Andreas Holley in there, the nose tackle on the defensive end, but we haven't really talked about.
Josh Schachter I think that was his helmet that we were seeing there, but he's a junior and they say he is really one of the linchpins for this on the defense and kind of, as I expected, Randy there, even though it's fourth and 15, they can't cut, they can't kick.
So they're.
Going to go through it when it's 25 to the one that puts the first short of the first down.
Couple of yards shy of the first down is Prince having a Christian.
So the big gamble paid off on fourth down, but on third down, the completion to Titus Campbell and does not get them the first.
So we're going to see Campbell do a nice job of running this pattern.
He's caught 17 balls by far the most on this team and that he made very good play there to to get open for it but just short in that five yard penalty cost him a lot in fact the distance that they needed for the first down there were just a couple of yards short.
Yeah, the fourth down gamble in their own territory works the fourth down gamble in the LCA territory.
They're a little bit shot over here immediately to the offense.
Yeah, I mean they can I mean there's still a limit for 15 to go in this half and they did take 5 minutes on the clock even though they didn't score or even get a chance to score here.
But they are controlling the clock.
It's a very overrated statistic most of the time.
But in this game, it's critical that they keep the ball away from this explosive charger off in second and wide half, which well, they've got him in third and long now and he goes landing is used to making big plays but nobody likes a play at 39 really.
And that's what they've got him in right now.
That's what they had him in the last time.
And that's what they've got to do is stop him and first down to get in these third and longer situations.
They've done it the last two times.
Important play now for the Chargers.
Are the Eagles landing here now from their own 17 yard line?
We'll see what they can dial up.
You're right.
Otherwise Barring a real booming punt and.
Some kind of mishap by the receiving team, Prince Avenue is going to have pretty good field position.
And they have called a time out.
Well, while they take a break, so will we.
Eagles landing with a situation where they need a big play.
We're back after this.

Give Randy Waters Bob out and back here at the Georgia Dome where Eagles landing Christian Academy leads Prince Avenue Eagles landing Christian scores very early.
Bob on their first possession which was a short field prince avenue's kind of like that fighter who got knocked to the floor the canvas early on round one.
But now he's kind of hanging on the ropes, trying to find a way.
Very good analogy.
All of a sudden, just 1/1 down, get a start to the offense, one stop on fourth on, third down and fourth down.
Seem to motivate him here.
There's a big third down right now, right.
Just to get the ball back.
You'll notice that the timeouts are all gone for four at Prince Avenue.
So not only do they not throw the ball there, they're going to be a hard time trying to move the ball up the field with only 3 minutes.
But first, they've got to make a play here.
Well, only one pass in this game.
Two passes completed each point, but they they both completed it.
Yeah, that's right.
100% on the efficiency there.
But we knew we'd see a lot of the ball on the ground and that's what we've seen all the third and six at the 17 yard line.
Notre Dame could catch up to the right size.
That's going to stop short of the first down.
Nice pass by Eldridge.
He can throw the ball.
He's throwing the ball for 1250 yards coming into this game and that that had the nice zip on it and had all the makings of a good play.
But great defensive stop there.
They're going to get the ball back with about 3 minutes to play and see what they can do.
Jonah Doster, back deep.
We told you these kids here learning, practice and playing both ways.
Graham Eight guys talking both ways.
They're all in and there's still a lot of guys at play.
And now there's a I think they took a little too long with their substitution here.
I don't think this is the play of the game.
I think this is maybe just a substitution.
He only has one arm up instead of two.
So I believe it's a substitution infraction.
Yeah.
Let's think that it's not against Prince Avenue because that would give the Eagles landing a first down.
It's wood, but they're open to now.
I think they're going to move them back.
And that should give Prince Avenue the chance.
No, it is against Prince Avenue that's going to give them a first down.
Wow.
Substitution infraction on the defense.
That's going to be five yards.
That will be enough for Carson.
And was going to play a hunch here and tell you the death penalty could really come back to haunt them with only 228.
They have all three timeouts.
They've demonstrated they can throw the ball.
And let's see if the Eagles landing after making a stop here.
Now they have to do it again.
That's a tough order for them.
So now from.
The 26 oh, right up the middle for a gain of about three in no hurry as the clock is about to go down three, 2 minutes.
But the way he can break and play and go for it, I can somewhat understand what they were trying to do.
They actually moved it back to him a second and nine.
Now he's beating Captain Green averages so far this season, 11.7 yards per carry, believe it or not.
One under 2 minutes here at three just to throw.
He's got a blocker on so nice nice move over the 40.
So up to the 41 yard line is keep the green.
After taking the pass from Dalton Etheridge.
Again at 13 and again he got the field open there.
Matt, my heart was pounding.
I can only imagine what the coach at the Eagles landing with.
I mean, at Princeton, Kennedy was Griffith there making the catch, fouling his blockers, breaks a couple of tackles there and gets the first down on second effort there.
But the clock is down to 145 and moving and they're not in a real hurry.
Let's see if they use a time out and actually look like they're some.
He's got blood, I believe, and has to come out of the game.
And that's one of their good ones there, too.
That's their big right tackle.
Has to come out for a play now.
Ryan McNealy to 98 to the sideline.
Yep.
Sophomore Bruin growing young player.
A minute and a half to go.
Seem to be in no hurry.
In the 41, which again, this time deep in a league, just off the fingertips of an open man, although he only had about a half step.
I got to tell you.
When I got thrown, I didn't think there was a chance in the world that he be able to come under.
And he just definitely got a hand and it came very close.
It looked like he had dramatically returned it.
Look how close this one is.
Man showed some speed right there.
Wow.
Look at him.
Turn on that extra gear there and almost make the catch sets in.
1016.
Man that had the big game last week.
The 95 yard kickoff return in the 80 yard black kicks off.
He is explosive.
He just in the southern Mississippi.
He just had just about that great big moment to kick on his team right here post the first down.
It's still over a minute to go in this first half and still.
Three time outs if they want to get to that point.
Right now, the ball is at the the replay.
He gets eight yards to the 49 line to make it the other team's 40.
So we'll see what happens here at third and long and they still haven't called the timeout.
Got the timeout to the back pocket yeah Edwards rolling right now plenty of protection has second has an African man inside the 50 yard line is D.J.
Curry and that was pretty good defense that that was a great pass right here and good penetration here.
We're going to see it right now.
Get some Raymond numbers going to his right and then.
Throwing the ball, flicking his wrist and look at this.
Nice catch.
It wasn't he was good at defense as I thought there and we'll see one more look at it there and all the way down in the red zone at the 50 year old look a little bit of nice cozy by that point 70 man to save the touchdown 40 yards on the play 45.
Seconds on the clock as they get ready to snap it reset Drew Griffin needs a move has one but that was smack down on the ball pops out looks like it's recovered by Prince Anthony still waiting.
For the signal.
They think they got it.
They did.
Wow.
What a turn of events that is.
Just when it looked like they were going to take the ball.
From one end of the field to the other and score a good turnover and defense.
Fumbles the ball with senior Eddie Tyler's parents is the man who recovered.
Let's see who made the hit.
The second hit, he is the one made the ball pop out.
And I believe that was Christian Payne who came in.
Well, Patrick.
Harris is one of the people we talked about as a player to watch in the game.
They said he'll be all over the field and he just demonstrated it there.
But what a big turn of events.
Now with 35 seconds to go.
I think the Pentagon will be very happy to get to the locker room with a seven to nothing deficit and look for the road like this is going to be a two score game at halftime as he just takes the lead.
And they are going to be very glad to let this clock run out because it looked like they had their backs to the wall and ELC and it's going to be up to score.
Well, it's one of those games where you kind of feel like they've hung around, they've hung around, they've hung around.
You made that boxing analogy and I think it's a very good one here.
Now, I believe that know they're going to let the clock or know they didn't have to snap it, so we're going to get done it.
But I think that boxing analogy is very true and a a very game.
Prince Having your team goes in the locker room cheering only.
Seven three and the score very early and then the rest of the half it was kind of defensive punches back and forth.
Let's go down to the sideline to ring.
Hey, coach, you're up seven on the board.
What's your assessment of your level of play right now?
I'm I'm really proud of the.
Way our defense is playing.
You know, in office, we got the ball three times in that half right there, which is testament.
Then they're keeping the football.
Can't turn the ball over down there.
You can't do that and win big football games.
Hey, we got we get the ball coming out in the second half and when you take it in the score.
What's your message to the guys in the locker room?
Messages.
We've won the game all aspects of the game from here on out, you know, it's on me with the fake punt that's on me defense and play great offense.
You're playing well let's just let's get the ball in the end zone.
That's the message.
Thanks, Coach Banks, back up to you, Mark.
Hey, thanks very much, Raven.
Coming up in the first halftime show of the day, we've got bands, we've got fans, we've got lots more with us right now.
We're at the break of the single day private school game between ELCA and Fifth Avenue.
The Chargers leading this one seven up.
And we're back with more halftime right after this timeout.

And joining us now is the head of the Prince Avenue Christian School, Danny Howell.
Danny, it's nice to have you on here and talk a little bit about the excitement at your school, making it all the way to the Georgia Dome here in the state championship game.
Thank you, Mark.
We're very excited to be here.
It's a dream.
Come true for us.
Our program Jones, almost six years old.
And what coach, father and Coach Riggins and our entire staff have done has been sort of incredible in the short time they've done it.
Kids work hard.
They're usually out oversight, outsized every time they go against somebody, but they seem to find a way to hang on.
And so we're very, very proud of.
What does a season like this mean to your school, to be able to have a successful season and then come to the Georgia Dome and be beamed statewide?
You know, the message of Prince Avenue Christian School.
Well, we're just excited about.
Our school, you know, we're continuing to grow.
We're we're at 800 students now.
We've we've almost doubled in size in the last six years.
We're very excited about our new campus out in bow guard and the things that are happening.
We have some some plans for the future with new buildings coming up with fine arts facilities and the second gymnasium.
So we're going to accommodate the growth.
So just God blessed us and we're very, very excited about what's happening.
Off ramps and and the football team is just a perfect example of the great things going on.
All right.
It's time to play.
How are you smarter than your students?
A question for today in Georgia History Project.
So let's look at this one and see what you got.
Which historical Georgian was a minister, a doctor, a governor and a signer of the Declaration of Independence?
Was it A Lyman Hall, B, Monty Hall, C, John Hancock or D Deion Sanders?
I guess we're going to go with Lyman Hall.
Lyman Hall, it is.
You are right.
Oh, that's good.
You're smarter than your students.
And not much.
I appreciate it.
Thank you very much.
The rest of the half.
Thank you, sir.
Okay.
Very good.

Our first one, the single a private school game between ELCA, Eagle's, Laney Christian Academy and Prince Avenue Christian Academy.
Christian.
And we pick things up in the first quarter and what a play by number one.
He takes it Deontay.
Green 23 yards for the touchdown This made it seven to nothing as he goes landing jump out on top early on.
Big play second half lucky quarter for Prince Avenue Christian pile.
Maddox takes the handoff and he is got a big run down the sideline.
He's finally knocked out, but a big play for Prince Avenue.
This is a defensive struggle most of the way right now.
ELCA, the Chargers leading the Wolverines seven to nothing right now, pretty much a defensive struggle, but it's been a very, very interesting first game here at the Georgia Dome GPB as the GHC State Championships continue.
So the fans are really fired up for this first championship game of the day.
Let's set it up for the Nikki Noto who is standing by with a very young and some very enthusiastic fans.
Nikki.
Well, Mark, I don't even know if you can see me right.
Now, but I know I'm in the middle of some ELCA, probably future footballers.
I don't.
Know if you can see the guys.
Down out front wearing some football jerseys, but they are pretty pumped right now that.
Their team is leading 710 that far.
You could say they have to win the Chargers.
Come on, man.
Oh.
All right.
That's wild pandemonium here at the Georgia Dome.
And this is just game one, folks.
We've got a triple header today and we've got four more big state championships tomorrow.
We'll be back with more halftime, the second half matchup of the single-A private schools when we come back live on GPB and his champions Trip weekend.
There's a little fella.
He's a big football fan.
We'll be back with more football right after this timeout.

Welcome back to the GHC State Football Championships live on GPB.
We're at halftime of our first game right now with the Eagles landing leading Princeton blue Christian and nothing live from the Georgia Dome.
We welcome Nikki Noto and Nikki, you know, the fans are such a big part of all the high schools that come through here.
And we're going to get to hear the first one of the day.
Oh, absolutely.
It's center stage for them, too, at the Georgia Dome.
And it is now time to listen to the sounds of the Eagles landing Christian Academy Band.
Now, great job by the Eagles Landing.
Christian Marching Band brought to you by.
Regions Bank.
We now welcome in the principal, the ELCA.
Richard Allen.
Thanks for.
Coming on.
Thanks, Mark.
Talk a little bit of what it means to your school and your community up there, too, down there to be a part of this great championship game here in the Georgia Dome.
Wow It's been a great week being a school where we have k three through 12.
We have all the little kids involved in everything and it's just been an electric week.
Our have been just super charged up.
When we left this morning, just a number of people, a great number of people sending our kids out.
It's just really a great atmosphere for us all week.
Really tough with finals coming up next.
Well, you know, one of the big things, the Eagles landing Christian Academy is the world impact week that.
You guys have.
Yes, very excited about that.
This is our third year to do this, Mark.
And we are what we do is up this year, about half of our high school kids are going to be involved in international travel.
We'll go to Greece, we'll go to Jamaica, we'll go to Nicaragua and several other places.
So just to give our kids an idea of what it's like in those places and an opportunity to serve and minister in those places, and then our kids who don't go, we will take a week off, off of academics and we'll bus them to Atlanta City of Refuge, Atlanta Union Mission.
So they get an opportunity to serve, which we feel like is the major reason that we're here to teach our kids how to serve and how to live in this, the culture that we get.
All right.
It's time to play the game.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History Project.
So let's see what you've got here.
When gold was discovered in north Georgia, thousands of miners swarmed into the mountains.
And the Cherokees called this, what, a Sacajawea.
Earlier.
Did you find them?
We don't see the great intrusion or the minor interruption.
I think we're going to go with C on that.
Mark was great.
I hear that school bound.
You are right.
So thanks very much for coming on.
Good luck in the second hour.
Thank you very much.
Very good.

We're now joined by reporter filmmaker here locally that has done nothing special or series a film on the Walker School, a documentary on the Walker School.
It's going to run immediately after our final game on Saturday.
So, Rick, what makes the Walker School such compelling story to tell in documentary form?
It's really about the redemption of of a man or a coach in this case, Coach John East, who lost his job 14 months ago, didn't really know what he was going to do, and decided to become a high school varsity football coach again.
After not coaching for 20 years.
And he changes the program around.
He takes 33 kids from 2011 to 58 kids in 2012.
And they go undefeated in the regular season.
A man.
Well, let's take a quick look at part of this film that you'll be able to see tomorrow right after the championship games wrap up.
We'd like to say that I have 38 years of independent school experience and I have no ill will towards any independent school or even one where I feel like I've been treated unfairly.
Some of the questions I can't answer because I can't.
I don't know.
I don't understand.
So let's move on now.
In life, who we walk with determines our character.
Walk east.
And they say you walk with faith.
Walk somewhere else.
And you may find yourself wandering.
Rick What was the best part of making this film?
Working with the kids, fantastic group of kids, the Walker kids, they're respectful and motivated, articulate.
This is the third or the trilogy of of my films here in Georgia on high school football.
As you know, I did Season of a Lifetime, and then I did the Walton Project last year.
Don't, don't.
So I think I need to grow up and move up to the college ranks or something.
I don't.
Know.
Well, listen, we're looking forward to seeing it.
We can watch it right after the championship games, the final championship game tomorrow.
So it'll be airing around 1130, 12:00.
Something like that should be great.
Do I have to.
Take a test, by the way, like that?
Coached it?
No.
You are smarter than your students.
Thank you.
Okay.
Thanks very much.
We are halfway through the first game here, ACL and Prince Avenue Christian.
Let's check out the Georgia EMC scoreboard right now.
Coming up at 530, we got the class triple-A game, the game between Buford and Saint.
Then at 830, we've got the five eight matchup where County and the red elephants of Gainesville.
Tomorrow we kick things off with the class-A public school game.
DOOLEY county taking on MCI 1130.
That's followed by the double AA game, Jefferson and Calhoun.
Then at 730, it's the third game, the four day matchup, undefeated, top ranked Creek takes on will now start about 530.
Our final game of championship weekend is tomorrow night at 836.
Lovejoy against undefeated and top ranked Moorcroft for that to be a dandy.
All right.
Time now to send it back up to the booth to the two guys we're going to call today's game, Brandi Waters and Bob Howard.
Guys, take it away.
All.
Thank you very much, Mark.
Halftime activities winding down here at the Georgia Dome Prince Avenue Academy has owned the ball.
The overwhelming majority of the first half.
But Eagles Landing Christian Academy owns the lead here, seven nothing.
We're back with some statistics, some highlights.
And then, of course, we'll have the third quarter kickoff after this.

That they created sculpture at this.

Wednesday at nine on GPB.
Seven nothing lead for Eagles landing Christian Academy from McDonough, the kids from Athens Prince Avenue Christian they're in this thing even though very early on, Bob, it was them looking at an almost immediate deficit after after that the ploy paid off the strategy paid off for eagles landing.
Okay, kick it off pulled them get good field position.
They did and then they score the Eagles landing scored in the first 2 minutes of the game and then there has to be another score.
The whole rest of the way.
I wouldn't have bet on that the way these two teams average about 35 points a game each.
But defense has settled in a very critical time when when when Prince Avenue was able to reestablish their personality.
We said they needed to keep the ball.
They kept it for 16 minutes in the first half.
I think we're going to see a couple of key plays in the first half.
I'll let you talk about them.
Well, let's let's take a look at that play on which Eagles landing scored after getting the good field position.
It was a 23 yard touchdown, but quiet day green in front of a four play, 46 yard drive.
Their first possession is in Prince Avenue territory.
Then it looked like Prince Avenue was really in big trouble like they were.
They're going to have to kick it from inside their 15.
And then Carl Maddox on the fake punt on Fourth and Forever picks up 42 yards Eagles landing Looks like they're driving first score hit the ball out to Griffin but the ball is knocked loose and recovered by Prince Avenue Christian and so it's a seven nothing ballgame here at the halftime.
Bob, you talked about it.
Hey, the rushing yards with far exceed the passing yards, although they had one big 40 yard play for ELCA, kind of kind of blew that stand up a little bit.
Well, that's the thing.
You wouldn't believe this.
Both passing team, these nine passing teams have completed every pass they've thrown in.
The one pass that they've completed led to the only turnover in the game.
So it's been a very clean.
Game, just a couple of penalties.
Not much that much, as much offense as we expected.
If look at Prince Avenue's barely got to 100 yards and the Eagles landing with 183 yards, well, the time of possession was nearly double, which is what they said they had to do on those numbers.
As you look at it, it seems like the big plays, with the exception, of course, of the of the fourth down fake punt back.
But Prince Avenue, it seems like the big plays have gone ELCA ways.
Let's go down to Raven on the sideline and see them put the Prince Avenue side of the story is at the moment.
Hey, thanks, guys.
Coach, you're trailing going into the second half.
What's your message to team locker room?
Just keep playing hard.
Just keep fighting.
I mean, you know, that's us.
That's all way we got here just to fight, right?
They'll play hard and they'll keep fighting, scratch whatever it takes to just help me get a break.
Or to do that, you never know.
What are some adjustments think you need to make?
Well, we just got to do a better job of get some sleep and that sort of thing on the perimeter.
And then we just got to find a way to to find a way to block them.
So thank you.
Go back up to you guys.
All right.
Thank you very much, Raven.
You see the Wolverines getting ready for the second here, 11 and two coming in 12 and one ELC was from everybody I talked to, pretty much heavily favored in this game.
Hey, it's like the baseball postseason.
The pitching usually dominates you.
Things get a little tighter.
Well, things are a little tighter here than either one of these teams, frankly, is used to.
And well, we'll talk a little bit more about that.
If the game stays close but can't help it.
Remember what the Eagles, Lanny.
Coached, how he described.
It to us yesterday.
Like a bunch of Navy SEALs, he didn't even scrapping, wasn't striving.
And you almost have to say against some pretty tough outs, much like the Navy SEALs face a lot of the time, prince having a center state in this game, only trailing by a touchdown.
Clearly, this first drive will set a lot of the tone of the second half.
It'll be Prince Avenue kicking off Tyler Foster to kick off for the Wolverines, back deep for the Chargers, the LCA, Marquis Griffin.
And he is Terry who took the opening kickoff back.
That's Griffin took the opening kickoff back 90 yards against George Walton Academy last week.
And we're underway in the third quarter.
And you're not going to kick to him?
Not going to kick it to him.
I don't blame them whatsoever.
However, this is going to be great field position at the very least and maybe a lot more for Eagles landing that backfired on Prince Avenue.
There's no question about that.
But you have to credit a great play, taking advantage of taking short kick.
Well, you're going to see it come the Jaguars terrorism heat.
He can run the ball back from any part of the field, including when it's a squib kick like that or pooch kick.
And he runs it all the way back deep into territory.
And we said in the things the multiple weapons of the Eagles landing and they shown there they can do it on offense, they can do it on defense and they can do it on special teams.
And that conservative play by Prince having backfires.
And now the ball's all the way at the 24 yard line, 46 yard return by Terry and some get the call here.
A sideline warning here on the offense.
Folks got a little too excited about that play I don't blame them.
The Eagles slanting return.
They're used to scoring they hadn't scored 22 minutes a clock time having scored for a couple hours.
That's very unusual for that team.
One of the reasons they're excited is they're inside the 25 yard line.
This is the first and ten on the 24 for Dalton Etheridge and his offensive unit.
He's got jumped a green to his right.
Jake Curl.
In motion.
He takes it and now he's inside the corner and he's got the score.
D.J.
Curl, 24 yard touchdown run.
So 46 yard return, 24 yard run for a touchdown, bang, bang.
Eagles landing.
Christian is going to be up by two scores with the extra point.
Still to come, Randy, we talked that did that 8 minutes to 4 minutes, a 2 to 1 ratio of time may not be enough that Eagles winning is just so explosive and can score quickly.
There's Exhibit A 16 seconds gone on the clock and you're down the field for a touchdown.
Cole Dillinger with the extra point and indeed.
It is a 14 to nothing lead.
For the Chargers ELCA.
Let's take a look at how this Terry handled this short kick yourself.
That's the biggest thing I see.
They're not trying to run wide.
He just took the ball right up the film, I think actually cut him little bit by surprise.
I'm not so sure they didn't expect a fair catch on that.
Well, Maddox was the guy who caught up with him on the sideline.
But here's Curl.
In motion to right and then cutting back to his left for the touchdown nice run here I think we're going to get one more look at it here.
But that was just a play that that they've run.
They usually run it with Griffin now they run it with Curl and it just went basically almost untouched into the end zone.
But again, going back, I just don't think that Prince Avenue was ready for him to run north.
South.
I think they expected to see a fair catch, which is quite often what you see in that pooch kick off like that.
And they were caught off guard in the 46 return to play, 16 seconds off the clock.
And now that's avenue definitely has to be a little bit more aggressive.
They made it than it was a seven to nothing game.
Eli case developed a very nice happen for themselves here in the state championship final.
They've scored on their first possession and each have scored in the first 2 minutes in the first half, scored in the first minute in second half.
So they scored quickly, they scored early.
They've not yet got that early in off the clock going the right now is a critical time in this game.
Or when you expected to see something happen in the first series.
We said that was important.
It is now very important for Prince Avenue to hang out of the football, run some clock.
Now, by the way, Mason, they could score.
So ELC senior D.J.
Curl, the young man who scored the touchdown, make sure the fans who follow his team here aren't being loud.
As his team kicks off the Prince Anthony Alex will watch this one go into the end zone and they'll set up shop at the 20 yard line.
At first looked like that ball was going to bounce out of bounds and then all of a sudden it was rolling where the team got down there quickly.
They kind of stopped him inside and it finally rolled in the end zone, mercifully.
But that.
Was flipped.
Those ad football's take different shape bounces than those round balls, don't they?
Magic Mark, unless it's a golf ball.
And I hit it and it takes it takes all kinds of bounces you just can't even describe.
It was like the talk when they hit the when they hit a punt that stops it.
It's my wedge, but it's cut wedges only in my dreams.
And it stops like that.
Nice shots look a lot more like that while they won big.
All right, first and ten.
Let's see what the but pretty damn you can do here with their first possession in the second half quarterback Zach Graham the in motion and Huff takes the handle he has been a workhorse, but the Eagles defense stopped him after about a one yard gain.
I checked with Kevin Burns, our great statistician, at halftime.
That was his 12th carry in 11 carries for 35 yards in the first half.
So my quick math says that's just about three yards a carry and you kind of get a little bit more out of your thousand yard wrestling than that.
And the other thousand year old rusher, Carl Maddox, if he didn't have that 42 yard run, we'd have a scoring an average, even worse than that.
So they need to get these guys going if they can.
79 to the air for a chance to and after catching it.
The defense is is all over Titus Campbell but that's what I think they said last week when they when they had the close game, they were able to throw the ball out and it didn't look real pretty, but they got six yards on it.
Line to make is 230 and again the trademark of the eyes.
Look at all the blue shirts on in the make the tacklers they'll be about three four guys to bring him down.
They're just great pursuit, maybe even more than that.
But half the team was there.
Men that play third down and four.
Randy, huge play for Prince early.
Early in the second.
Half those pop said they have to get to the 30 half again not going to make it no game.
And so Prince Avenue, we think, will have to punt it away.
They've they've pulled a couple of cards up from the bottom of the deck so far in this game and surprise some people.
But they're looking at a fourth down.
And we're going to see here that that prince is kind of I hate to use the old fashioned term trust block, but that's what it reminds me of, is when the wingman comes over and tries to wring between tackles and they're not even let's see, they are going to kick the ball.
I thought for a second to try and go for, I think is that this game is on the line right now.
And look at there's nobody deep for an Eagles landing.
They're highly skeptical right now.
Now there's a man standing about the 45 yard line.
Now he drops back to midfield cross curl.
And then finally, after all this time, they they call timeout.
Now that'll show you something they're ready.
Eagles landing was not convinced they were going to punt the ball they didn't have a man back.
And then finally they call a timeout there.
The first timeout that they've taken, they were just that suspicious of what Prince Avenue was going to do here.
Well, Jonah Doster was back in information to punt.
But talk about the kind of week this has been for Coach Guess.
And with the arrival of their first child and everything.
Here's the coach on what it's been like.
It's really exciting, you know, really exciting and everybody fired up and you know, I think I think every high school football players dream is to get to the dome and you know, we've really had to step back and say, hey, the goal is to win at the dome, not just get there and so there's there's just is this extreme excitement going on throughout school?
Well, maybe the folks are in the stands and hopefully those watching us are even more excited if they follow ELC because they have the 14 to nothing.
Leave a lot of excitement at the guest house too.
Yeah, yeah, we get it.
You know, there's their son was born Wednesday, arrived about two and a half weeks early and he wanted to see the game.
The state championship.
Dads get home.
I want to go out two days almost to the minute here.
I was born right around this time two days ago.
So you're right.
Yes.
Nice.
Now.
Doster got it on.
There's no flag bumper on deck left there.
But a fumble back at the 40 yard line back cover back up by curl.
I sure thought he got a touchdown there.
There's not an active sometimes, but it looked like they got him here.
We're going to see a couple of things here.
Almost a block on a high snap.
Let's see if they got him.
Nope.
If he fell down, he might have gotten away with it.
Then let's see that play at the other end.
He just goes right through the wicket and he falls right back on it.
So that makes it a 32 yard.
Punt, kind of a beauty of the game there.
And there's the guy that's done everything him through it and all of a sudden the plate going the other way real quick for now, first down so quickly, fortunes can change.
Fortunately for Pearl, they didn't change a great deal on their plays, on first down, there's a short game of a couple of yards for the Chargers.
It pretty much bottled up green since that first 24 yard running.
He had to get the touchdown.
And I love that you said that you kind of hold your breath because he could make you look silly in the next play because he's just that kind of running back and it'll be pretty.
The man in motion is the man who gets the ball and he's in big trouble over on the far side and fumbled the ball, but it was fumbled out of bounds.
MATTHEWS So no damage done.
Neither team been able to get the ball outside very easily.
I believe that was 27, Matthew, just with the ball loses a couple of yards great pursuit on the outside by by Prince Anthony and that brings up third and long and some time here for them to see if they can snap although we've seen now that prince that that eagles landing he's not afraid to put the ball up in the air or spread the field out, not just for.
Running, but to get him to isolate it out there for a big play for them.
That's rich in shotgun on not their natural habitat.
Is that the man?
This is the man again, D.J.
Curl with the first down.
And no, they don't very often.
Go to that spread formation.
But they had that was the classic bubble screen there.
And you'll see Crowe, I believe, going for more than 20 yards.
That's another big explosive play for him.
That's a new term that you're going to hear in these days, the explosive play.
And that's a pretty good example of it right there.
21 yard game.
One of the blockers who was out there was Deonte Green, though his coach talked about.
He says make sure you talk about his blocking first grade players.
It's an offensive player players as a defense.
He thinks what he does best is.
Block the strike.
Brees blocking this guy in it and a good one here three to carry and he's.
Just shy of a 35 line a prince after there he is right there.
He does it all for this team.
He plays defensive back linebacker that jumps up on the line or jumps back to play defense.
But I like the way he blacks and he's another guy that likes to get his helmet bashed up a little bit there and a lot of decals on it as well.
Dante Green is a green, as you see, committed to Purdue and he's going to stay with him even though they've changed coaches up there once he gets to West Lafayette.
With the offensive side of things exclusively.
Speaking of offensive.
Here's Etheridge with The Keeper.
And got a big game down inside the 25 yard line about Etheridge as they've had their eye on him since middle school.
They said that they've been counting the days till he was eligible to put on a varsity.
And I think you're seeing this replay.
That's one of the reasons why they're so pleased to have that coach.
Yes.
And he you know, he had his eye on Etheridge and dreaming about offenses like like Oregon that utilize quarterback skills of that nature.
And he's doing it for him this season and certainly again here this afternoon at the Georgia Dome and version minister for.
The first time he eagles and is threatening punts he's going to get down here and watch right hand for 25 and.
It looks like green has about five on the first down and you want to see that they're going to get that tired because their defense hasn't around the field that much.
But they've got eight guys going both ways, so it is going to start to get to him.
And Coach Freeman told us that early in the season, if it's kind of hard for them because of the heat and those guys going.
Both ways, a lot of them in control conditions here.
But nonetheless, it's got to wear on Prince having a little bit more.
He has 50 yards in.
Ten carries his efforts with.
A hole over the right side and he's got another first down for Eagles landing.
It's not a fair comparison because it was so much bigger and stronger.
But it seems like you got to get the quarterback involved and all of a sudden he's making some nice plays.
You wonder if Prince Avenue was a play similar to that, or they can get their quarterback moving a little bit in the about in the play.
But right now they've got to figure out a way to stop them on defense because this team's back looking he's not going to give up the three touchdowns that he saw that Junior Lane Timpson up ahead with.
A nice block a header and you can see the number 20 will be stressed with this play is pretty much shut down by.
Prince Anthony on first down I think just the way the coach brought that up that's a teaching point.
Teaching moments, teachable moments.
And and I think the kids have the lesson, that's for sure.
They all block very well down the field, including the stars.
Second down in line for a randy no game on that first down play so second and ten and this time handing off to the man in motion from back to left in this time 6.4 Brown move 14 yard block.
He was stopped by the Spurs and looked like they'd blown up the play.
One one man a shot up.
But once he got to that initial line.
It was just the.
Nothing but him getting to the end zone.
Here he goes right here.
Very nice run.
And that's like the.
Fourth or fifth running back.
Randy making a run like Brad more as a junior.
And you're right, his first statistical.
Leaders on the season for Sergei.
He's just not they're not getting all the luck today but an excellent play here in the third quarter.
He gets a touchdown, some more touchdowns and then the subsequent extra point makes it 8 to 21 to nothing leaves a deal seeing chargers they trying close in on their first state champions.
Team is not something you do alone teams plural team his arms legs blood sweat and so a lot goes into team ball we take away stays with us forever 50.
Well second half touchdowns for ELC 23 yards by D.J.
Curl, 14 yards by Brad Moore and that young man on the left, right there, number 23, with the latter of those two touchdowns.
And it's a three touchdown deficit at which Prince Avenue's going to be looking and this just put it this way.
They haven't seen that situation this year.
They haven't.
And and ELC is now kind of getting in their momentum that that they need.
But but what I just a here's a drive that goes nine plays 60 yards 3 minutes and 45 seconds but the young man that was a great run that they it we saw the replay they had their play strung out.
He had to make the break.
He had to break the tackle.
And then once he broke the tackle, he knew what to do.
That's your second, maybe third string option in this.
We talked about the multiple weapons.
That's probably as good of an example as we've seen of it right there.
Scoring drop number two by Technical College System with Georgia.
Here on GPP, we have 528 to go in the third quarter.
No question about it.
There's that.
And if they keep the score going in the team he goes landing.
Doesn't usually play.
In the second half.
And so a lot of these guys that are for a team are going get a lot of time in the second half of these games.
So we might be seeing more after that.
But more and more, as they say that right now.
Let's see if he goes landing.
I mean, it's hard to tell.
You can do anything to reverse this powerful momentum that's coming along.
Well, they'll have to start from their own 20 yard line after the kick goes into the end zone.
As you see Maddox or Maddox of the Wolverines, back to pick it up and he and his offensive mates have their work cut out for them, let's put it that way.
Well, in you can't really point to any one thing that you can say has worked for him that the fake punt and so they can't use that as their offense.
I would just like to see at least once again try to use the quarter that he averages 28 yards per carry.
So he's obviously.
An integral part of.
The offense, but they've got to try some things, which is good, to get the pressure up.
Their two main running backs added morning strip formation, understanding the receiver and then the hand double handoff inside and they'll lose a couple of yards on that play as Maddox is taken down by ELC, just trying to do something to get Maddox and open.
But that was the first time I've seen this and it's almost like the old pro set offense there and they were trying to clearly get him out there.
Number one tackles.
Number one, they're just trying to replace.
Yes, he blew it up.
And you say for sure they made a decision like this.
I think the guys offered it on defense to this T.A.
Green.
He he he's going to have a decision to make.
Well, they're engineers out there.
They'll figure they will indeed.
Smart guys at second and 12 they meaning the Wolverines need a big play somewhere along the line that is not going to be as Maddox's stuff called no game.
Again he had the one run on the fake punt for 42 yards.
I don't think he's had more than two yards and several negative plays.
And right now you can just feel the not only the score and the tide of the game, but just pick the wind in their sails.
Is right, is in real trouble right now.
They need a first down desperately.
They need something to get some say positive psychology back on their way back, they lost a yard on that play on third and 13 from their own 17.
GRAHAM And just as you said, Bob, they're trying to get him.
Involved and they did, but only for a three yard gain, up to the 20 yard line, original line of scrimmage and it's going to be fourth and ten for Prince Avenue, even though that looked like it had some space, like a couple other teams you've seen up here as the armchair quarterback, you could say that you saw it with the Eagles and he closed on it after it looked like it was never going to make the first time, but it sure looks like we're going to get more than three yards.
And right now, Eagles AIM is not trusting a punt there's nobody back deep dusters and confirmation inside his ten.
I think that's another thing deep their own territory not this time say the chargers and that's what puts gas in that play to the Randy but he had a gut.
Three and something in the scouting report or whatever but they did not drop anybody back until very late.
You can see they were not fooled a second time.
It is.
And he ran right into the tip of the defense.
I don't know if there is any more room to run the other way, but there were about five or six.
So that's the essence of the natural team.
Talk about a short field and take over at the 15 yard line inside handoff and it'll be about a second and eight for ELCA man.
There's the ball carrier again in that picks up a couple of yards.
Right now you just have to feel for Prince Avenue because eight guys going both ways.
Everything that you played for the first half, certainly in your favor and and it all seemed to fall apart on the very first play of the second half.
He's been all downhill since then Etheridge out to Griffin Griffin has one blocked in front a.
Couple of defenders but gets the max out of that play down to the 12 yard line very good defense.
That time, though, Titus Campbell came over to it up and we'll see a replay of who else got involved in this.
Well, and that was the fullback there's Campbell making the tackle Huff involved.
But Huff was really the guy who stopped that play, strip the blocking and set up for his teammates to clean up.
And Burton managed, although you feel like they played good defense, but you look.
At the change, it's 33.
33.
That's right.
Green in the backfield.
Brown he's the man with the ball on with a push down on him and six for T.J. Green 12 yard touchdown play and Chargers floodgates started to flex their muscles.
I think they're going to see it right here.
He was stopped for a moment, but then.
He just broke it out to the right.
They never really did get their.
Arms around Brady gets good pull there.
Somebody had him at the five yard line and he has broke that tackle.
Like it was playing football.
Here he gets in the endzone for his second score of the day, trying to tack on the extra point to make it 28 to nothing and it's no good.
So it stays 27 zip push wide, right.
That was a three play, 19 yard drive.
So as we mentioned, nice, nice short field.
Then those are the numbers presented by the Technical College of Georgia.
Three plays, 19 yards, four plays.
Yeah, they've been good on the Ravens.
Well, there's talent on the field.
If you don't believe us, ask that guy or if you ever get a chance to ask Kirby Smart, Alabama defensive coordinator Mike Bobo, we're told, is also here.
The Georgia offensive coordinator course.
Those two guys are are good friends away from the SCC field.
And it's interesting, this is a division, a class one, a private school game and there's at least three or four kitchen ELC along to the Division one schools.
You've got Southern Mississippi, Purdue, Notre Dame, and I think there's a young man going to Air Force, but we think we did identify which one is in.
Four guys go to Division one schools out of one school.
That's the additional that's pretty darn good.
And it's that time of.
Year but that was the Norcross to Keith Ballou earlier this week and walked into the office and I think it was okay Keith wanted me to come in but there was a recruiter from a Big Ten school there talking to one of his kids.
So big kids that commit to get right down to the ground is one thing.
I will say this.
It wasn't Albert, it was a receiver basketball man.
It's inside.
Inside, Big Brother.
Talk about what the Wolverines didn't need.
That was it right there.
Oh, you're talking about.
They're down there.
Team psychology.
I'll bet you Maddox hasn't dropped the ball like that all year.
You know, now, all of a sudden, maybe trying to do too much, whatever.
But his mind wasn't there, and that lost his focus and he got in trouble real fast.
Sophomore Nick Dawson among those down there in a hurry so its first and ten at the three and you can just sometimes feel you know we did some games this year that were close games and all of a sudden one play just changes everything around.
You see it's for the 701 play, but it's just something special for kids.
It just starts to happen.
Well, when you're down 27, it doesn't do any good to be looking at a 97 yard field in front of you before you.
Can get into the end zone and tough around the left.
And now he might.
I don't know if he lost any, but didn't gain very much, that's for sure.
Zach Well, we're going to see a statistic on day and yardage, and I think it's going start to show every bit as much as a score in their turn, 80 yards to 123 yards.
And again, 42 of those yards came in one play for Prince Avenue.
But what were things like at Northwest High School?
They got to be just so much more of such a laid back com guy anyway.
So he handles things so well, you know, the community so excited, first time in 55 years in the state championship game.
They know as just playing Stackpole, too.
They know they got their hands full, though, because they could talk to their grass or boys basketball coach.
They make those state championships a regular affair over there.
Maybe they maybe they can learn a little bit from them that Angie Embry has done just a such a great job in the head coach.
1 Million is just that.
They've got a dynasty over there in both the boys and girls basketball.
And I think Coach Maloof would like to join them and show off his ring.
We talk about college coaches salivating Travis Custis and Alvin Kamara on the same field, and it's a fun game, not to mention all their teammates who are Division one prospects were under a minute to go in this third quarter and it's a third and eight for the Wolverines and that passes through the hands of everybody intended receiver and defenders included.
And how many times today have we looked up and seen number 22, somewhere around the ball, either on offense or defense?
And for ELCA, my girl is every place he just looked like he could play somewhere.
They say he's 510 175.
When we're done on the field, he looked a little net to me, but he can at least play Division two somewhere.
Randy He is he is a very, very good football player.
Doster to cut it away.
The sophomore stands in his own in deep, deep in his own zone with 23 seconds on the clock in the third quarter.
And if they gamble here, then then they are the king of the gamble.
Taking it to third man again.
There he is again, D.J.
Curl back inside the 25 yard line.
And that's where the Chargers of video will start possession, 35 yard kick and a 15 yard return for D.J.
Kirk.
And the field position that they're getting on almost every play tonight.
I think there's also a curl was injured.
They're getting a little slow, probably a cramp.
And there's another penalty flag well on the other side of the field, really totally away from the play.
So I have no idea what that was.
That was echos the play was on the near sideline.
After the check after change of possession and on the return have a block in the back here on the returning team that's going to be ten yards for the spot of the foul and it will be passed down.
And obviously the game's that close right now.
But some some coach, he's going to be cheering and somebody for a black in the back.
40.
Yards away from where the play was, at least the flag was 40 yards.
Just saw D.J.
Curl heading back to the locker room, moving.
Okay.
But as we say, we hope that's just a cramp.
That's what it looks like.
The final 12 seconds to go here in the first third quarter.
That has been dominated by eagles.
Yeah.
Under under 25 yards of offense in this quarter for Prince Avenue.
And the handle Simpson he's got room to the outside finally broke down after a big gainer by.
Layne Timpson and he is there second team running Dick Morris their third team running back in that position.
Yeah and we'll see a replay this this young man has really come on during the playoffs and shows real well for next year nice run here it's a 17 year game and the great young man who punted Jonah Doster, was the man who caught up with Timpson right there.
In Eagle's Landing.
Christian Academy.
Yes.
Fingers up.
It is in the fourth quarter.
They look like they're headed for the state championship in this 27 to nothing.
Delivery of Prince Avenue.
Certainly Hammer thrown into town.
They're still fighting, but it's going to be an uphill battle for the guys in the Wolverines numbers.
We're back in the fourth.
Quarter after the.
Spring.

And sign up now three third quarter touchdowns for the Chargers of Eagles Landing Christian Academy puts them in at 27 nothing.
Leaders would be in fourth quarter play here at the Georgia Dome, the class, a private school division, state championships, one of the signature programs, the TPP, of course, is Georgia Travel.
David, tell Scheme.

Talked to David Zelensky and his traveling team.
You can see how doing it this quarter has been.
One of the three trails and single digits for the guys from Prince Avenue over near Athens, which, by the way, is seven of eight for 107 yards from his quarterback position for Eagles landing Christian again.
And he's done a nice job of running with the ball there.
He looked like he had pretty good haul there, but was filled very nicely in the middle by Sam Kennon.
They're making the tackle and sticking together after what looked like to be a better game than one yard.
Now second down and nine in the other class.
Eight teams shouldn't see this.
And be a little afraid if they decide to jump.
So if he's coming back to win this offensive, the Eagles landing.
Has a program.
There's there's teams that get going.
But this team is a program.
They now are going to be in the reloading stages.
And I think most people in South Metro know that.
And they're they got a lot of things going them as we said, we can do it so many different ways from so many different positions and so many kids from different classes.
And I don't think, yeah, they're going to lose to guys that going to go to major schools, but they're just going to reload.
Randy the son, number 55, Tyler Perry's for Prince Avenue.
His helmet came off so he has to leave the game this a third and six screen for ESPN.
Here's Grant again for that tackle inside the five and down.
At the three yard line is quiet day green.
He is a load to bring down now he's you know he's had an ankle trouble is limping off the field here but look at what he did for about 20 yards before he got hit.
What the center did, he got hit on his ankle or not.
Maybe they're all the way down inside the five yard line, a 20 yard run for green they market at the two so it's first and goal ELCA in command and knocking on the door again quarterback Etheridge inching a little closer That's inside the one.
It's interesting how programs can get like that.
Is it just a coach?
Is it the facilities?
Is it the parents and the booster club?
It's all of the above.
But all of a sudden they've got it.
They've got a very strong program now, six years in a row in the playoffs, every year they get a little bit better.
I predict one thing they can't do any better.
Next year they're going to do this.
They're going to create it.
A tough act to follow for themselves.
But that's okay.
I'm sure that's fine with them.
This is second and goal.
Etheridge takes the snap to go straight at him for the touchdown.
The regular quarterback looking like a wildcard on that third straight running away from the shotgun position and scoring and 18 rushing touchdowns coming into this game.
And he picks up a touchdown in.
The state championship.
On the ground there.
And I don't want to pick on the other quarterback today.
Maybe that's the biggest issue.
The biggest glaring difference is he's got 18 touchdowns.
He's run for five or 600 yards.
The other young man just in there to to to limit the mistakes and run the team and not really be an integral part of it.
I think it's really showing here in the second.
Half this time the extra point, well, this one does no good either mean to.
Do this right right now in this wide left, I believe found the weakness and I don't think that's going to do them in, let's put it that way.
Here's another look at the touchdown by Etheridge as they go up.
On top here by a score of 34 to.
The wheels of progress haven't been very active lately but because of business people like you things are beginning to get rolling and regions is here to help, making it easier with the expertize and service to keep those wheels turning from business loans to cash management.
We want to be your partner moving forward.
Let's get going together.
Let's go down to the sideline now.
Raven has a story for us that I think every one can relate to the courage that a young man exhibits and she's about to tell you.
That's right, Randy.
Number £71.
You might see him on the sideline or you might even him out on the field.
This guy is legally blind.
That's right.
Legally blind.
He only sees glass.
So I asked Coach naturally, how does he do it?
And he said He goes by The motion of the blowers on the field, a very interesting young man.
It's awesome that he gets out of the field.
He's able to do this.
Back up to you.
Actually, we asked the coach that same question yesterday and he says, I don't know how he does it.
If you find out, tell me.
He's just an inspiration to that whole team.
And quite honestly, ready.
You had to remind me of that.
We were down on the field and he was walking around and talking to his teammates and laughing with his teammates, and he would never have guessed that he had that way.
And he kept it his head over to the back and what a great story that is.
And perhaps you're hoping he gets in the game and that we're at this stage.
Yeah, he's their backup center, the guy that he backs up, Jake Barton, is pretty much acknowledged as the leader of their offensive line.
So with this score, which is, by the way, 33, I told you the extra point was no good.
But then initially they put that point up on the board.
Yours truly, yours truly read the board.
I've been I've been programed for years to read the board, read the scoreboard and know it is 33 to nothing.
And who is mad at him about the team and the special teams?
Coverage for EEOC has been outstanding the entire afternoon.
The special teams been great, but they have really battled up to Mr. Mannix here.
And remember any 1600 yards and we're going to see the replay.
And again, a little more north and south here.
But they just covered it so quickly.
I think that was Nick Dawson again for ELCA.
Down on the coverage.
You mentioned the sophomore on on a previous kick cover situation.
So now playing his role to the hilt, Maddox had 22 touchdowns rushing and he only caught one pass all year.
But he ran it 59 yards for a touchdown to 23 touchdowns and they just stopped him.
Here's the pass and wants to throw it and does has huff but he stopped shy of the 20 yard line I'm going to my statistics I'm just going to make a guessed it just might have one or two receptions all year because it looks like he had four in the during the regular season.
So again, they don't have a lot of receptions to begin with.
And he is not one of their targets, that's for sure.
Well, they have a big lead and they're going to go with a state championship.
But nonetheless, I'm sure they kind of cut their breath for a moment because back in the endzone at the tail end of that play, Isaac Rochelle, very slow getting up and he has come off the field.
It looks like he's going to be okay, but he came.
Off the field pretty slowly.
His brothers had trouble rolling to his left ball up in the Air Force, harmlessly to the turf.
But it'll be another third down situation coming up for Prince Avenue, third and at their own 19 to understatement of understatements.
When a team goes 90% of their ground, their yardage on the ground, they're not built for this type of thing, even even to make the score respectable.
I get the feeling that the one last thing that Eagles.
Landing.
Wants to do is get shut out.
Number five, I think that's the last on their check mark.
Obviously, the big one is is accomplished and that's to get their first state championship and see what they do on 35 and oh snap to Graham and he throws it down the right sideline and out of bounds intended at least Maddox was the closest receiver to the situation.
So it'll be fourth down for Prince and winner Isaac.
Rochelle is back out on the field for ELCA and Andrew Williams also comes back out into the lineup and defensive end for the Chargers fourth and five.
I think they kick the ball here, but it looks like they're lining up to run a play here.
I guess it doesn't matter whether you lose 33 to nothing or 42 not to train.
Yeah, you might as well go down swinging and as they say, they have done that your backs.
The analogy is continuing just from a different point of view right now.
And looking up field that's complete for a first down Titus Campbell he's their main receiver had 17 catches on the day the season and he's got two or three today and that was actually pretty nice through yeah that's that's not easy rolling left and squaring up good footwork yep front back to his right Campbell was opening laid it right in there for an 11 yard gain and a first down up to the 30 yard line and again nobody their season to end and they're going to do everything they can to try and make it respectable.
And you got to that.
That's a sad part of the state championship.
There's always got to be a good story in.
The back story.
Look it up right there.
Bill Graham taking down number one.
Number one in more ways than one.
Deonte Green, we're going to see it.
And Cam's practically untouched in there very quick off the line to get to him and bring him down and in.
For a guy who's been here, we'll see it again.
For a guy who's scored as many places as Green has on offense, I still like him on defense an awful lot.
Randy This kid is special and he's going to make the coach at Purdue very, very happy.
I know they've got a lot of talent and they'll have more coming in and they have kids coming back.
But you don't you have to miss a guy like that they're going to miss Payton and that pass out to the right level musically but but no it's it's let's put it this way let's let's take it out on the field, see what this one's like.
Is Bryson Durden making the tackle there?
And he had that one covered all the way.
And and they're still hitting Randy even with 6 minutes to go in the game.
They'll celebrate later.
Third and 23.
I don't think they've got this plan.
Your playbook either.
Yeah.
Graham is going to give it a go to the left, but only a yard or so for him on that one.
So another fourth and forever coming up here for Prince.
Everything.
Well, I think it just shows you how well Prince and he really did play in the first half to keep the game as close as it did because he Eagles landing is doing everything that we heard they could do in the second half they played very good defense in his 6 minutes away from their fifth shut out of the year.
Their offense is obvious.
Their special teams have been very good and they just looked like you played out from a weakness.
They've missed two extra points.
Let's see if the Wolverines actually punt it away.
And they are.
You took an extra step to curl the signal punt returner back and he signals the fair catch.
So once again, they will start in Prince Avenue territory.
That's a 31 yard punt.
So the guys who look like they're going to get the state championship trophy in just a few minutes, we'll have the ball when we come back.

Christian Academy can celebrate the state championship, leading 33 to nothing here with 547 to go in the fourth quarter at the Georgia Dome.
The young man we just mentioned, the poster about get LB here he is number 71 back center, is legally blind.
Is in there for ELCA and they have had some other lineup changes to give him a number.
It gives a chance to get in the state championship game.
I'll get to tell their kids or their parents and their kids and their grandparents that they got to play in the Georgia Dome.
Backup quarterback is Jordan Long, the freshman.
Who hands up and you.
Can see some pretty amazing statistics here, Randy domination.
That's kind of how it's spelled out in the second half of the chart.
The amazing thing, it's only 19 plays to go, 147 yards and four touchdowns.
The whole and not a lot on the offense that's going to be ten yards.
Back the first time he's going to repeat reverse down the game right where he wanted to do a bit of something.
The game by Ethan McGibbon is wiped out.
Going into that slot.
Wiped out his mind.
That isn't at all.

But young Mr. McGibbon will carry the memory with him nonetheless.
He ran for 15 yards in the Georgia.
Bucket just to get by, and.
It was 71 down there.
And it's it just so heartwarming to see the long hands off again.
This time the bouncing outside is Cameron Stewart, but he's taken down about the first three yards good aggressive game.
By Prince and they're just to in there they're going to finish their season the second year in a row and it was good.
Only two losses four losses in two years.
They've got a program started here, too, as well.
You mentioned at the top of the broadcast that team you're looking at right there lost their opener and then ran off 12 straight victories and this one sticking for 13.
And we'll have this one yet another one with a margin of more than 25 points, 14 games in 12 of them will be kept safe.
And more than 25.
And a lot of them, a lot more than 25, they have down maybe class one in the second team here inside handoff pit stop for a very short game.
To Antoine Campbell, you talked to the two coaches yesterday about the private school and it could be the injury again or just yet another man down on the field there right at mid right that.
And the longer that he's going now.
But Randy, both coaches kind of said the right thing.
But I think they I think the thing to do, specially since they get a bye in the.
First week would be.
Maybe to play the private championship and the public championship.
It would be the last week and then have the public and private play in one game here for the to bring them back together again.
They'd be playing all five weeks in the playoffs.
I like that idea.
What do you think of it?
I agree with yeah.
I would I would go for that.
I'd agree.
Tyler Perry's is the young man being helped off the field.
And no matter what color the fans are wearing, they're applauding this young man's effort.
He's been out there a long county.
They've been playing both ways.
So don't forget, after this was over and we'll fill some.
Activities for you, championship presentation of this class eight private school division.
The next game just Simpson's Buford Wolves at 11 and three take on Paul Standard St Pius Golden Lions, Jack Speer, Ryan Braswell, the guys from Buford, they only give up seven and a half points a game spirit Braswell for Pius and supplied some offensive that is going to be a good you remember that 11 and three is really 13 and one yes it's been an interesting last few months kind of like that run that the young man had he didn't count.
Yeah they they won 13 of the 14 games but I believe it was a deep second or third team that played in two games.
Yes.
And at the fourth quarter that that was just young man had been in maybe the last minute or so.
Right.
A couple of games.
And then Buford had the fourth of those games.
But they have worked their way through the playoffs here to the Georgia Dome and the state championship game against the Golden Lion to save lives.
That should be a good win.
And then you talked about Coach Maloof and now you talk about Coach Standard.
They all played for Daddy Maloof at St Pius and that's a great story.
Three of the coaches from that same great high school team.
Yeah it Dudley from where county as well I think they were on the 1980 Pius and now this this Elka team is been led by you've heard us call their names the underclassmen have done great things today too but this this senior class has really chalked up a lot of wins and they get the ultimate win here.
Here's coach Jonathan.
Guess about his class.
What really makes this group really special is we've been knocking on the door for four years.
We've kind of maybe had a championship type caliber team, a team that can make it to the championship, but it never did.
And this senior class has been through some been they've been knocked out in the third round versus Clinch County.
They've been knocked out last year in the semifinals when they were favored to win.
So they've been through it all.
Well, Dante GREENE, Isaac Rochelle, there's Rochelle, their seniors, D.J.
Curl, who's been everywhere today, as we said he's a senior.
There's Green 12 rushes for 84 yards for him.
GRIFFIN Another senior, three for 45.
And the girl, he's just doing a lot of things both offensively and defensively.
He has a touchdown.
So Those are the seniors you're talking about.
And Rochelle doesn't get the big numbers, but you just see his presence playing what he doesn't have to do as they constantly ran away from him.
When the game on the line to you guys he's going to be sad to see those seniors go junior quarterback Dalton Etheridge, he's seven of eight today for 107 yards and he's not going to be happy to see those seniors depart, but I'm sure he's glad he can help them take away the ultimate gift for the state championship.
45 yard kick and Prince having to take over with 2 minutes and 44 seconds on the clock here in the fourth quarter.
There's afters right there.
I think that some of these guys that are going to come and play offense for me, pretty good to look at to win Tennessee looks like a really good player.
When AJ touchdown I get a feeling they're not covered here at all.
I am guessing that Eagles landing is going to be a prohibitive number one when the season starts again.
Next year and then.
We'll be threatening to be back here for another year.
This is still the first unit in here, Prince Avenue Graham handing off.
And that play at the ten yard line is Carl Maddox in here.
And just again, the exception that one player has not been able to get anything started for the super player to get their 1600 yard gain or 23 touchdowns on the year.
Just haven't been able to do it this today Keenum and he just has to get that first tackle break in the Navy where he can break something for a bigger gain after that.
But we got to hand it to the Eagles defense.
Speaking of that, talk about the future.
Looking great.
Chase Burdette got in on that Texas freshman and he's been he's been very active today as well.
This play is going to be stopped for a loss behind the line of scrimmage as how hard is this Eagles landing team still playing?
Less than 2 minutes to go.
They are going to go out there making sure that they do that.
Everybody in the team gets a chance to play and everybody contributes and they're playing very tough right now.
Still in a minute and a half to the floor, however, Lewis freshman Sam Shockley in on that play under 2 minutes now.
Celebration begins in the stands and.
We'll be taking you down to the field to get a close look.
And there's a Shockley that whose name we didn't really call that, but he's the middle linebacker on his team and, one of the better defensive players.
So there's two Shaq.
He's coming back next year.
Josh Shockley is the strongest guy on the team according to coach.
Guess this is Maddox, almost a little bit of room.
That's the first time he's gotten through to the line and made a nice little bit of a gain there.
At least got to the second level before he's taken down there as a crucial you him him Griffin.
Shell as we've mentioned.
And for Jourdain Grayson to make a couple of plays early on in those two celebration.
Starting to start play one more step in there and put this game in the books and Brown he goes home and Christian academy and trivia question the first ever division one private school staging this year with separate from class a level.
Maddox again might of the first down very close this close looks like he got it the clock is also close.
To zero stopped in 18 for head coach Jonathan Gibbs young son you're out of the game in the rookie was two days old in no time.
What do you what he was around for I bet your mother told me all about this.
I'm sure she's keeping track of this situation.
So the 32 year old head coach of Eagles 19 team is about to have his first state championship on the clock, but she was rounding Christian Academy and finally won the class a private championship.
They have won it in dominant fashion, taking in one touchdown to the locker room at halftime and then blowing things open in the third quarter.
And one fourth quarter touchdown.
To defeat Prince Avenue.
Let's go down on the field to rape.
Hey, thanks, guys.
Coach, you said it's been four years knocking and the.
Knock is finally answer.
What does it mean to.
You in this team?
Nine years.
So proud of them?
You know, first and foremost, I want to thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Right.
We've been knocking on the door.
Everybody, always nice Lord.
After they win, we thank thinking when we lose and you don't always win the big one.
But you know, we've been.
Knocking on door, the kids never quit.
And and they finally got there.
And I'm just so proud of them for never quit.
And they just kept knocking.
You got a great senior class.
Great junior class.
Proud of great coaching staff, great coaches, staff, coach.
I know that you put our award stickers on the back of the helmets.
If you're going to award one sticker for one play today, what would it be?
I think really honestly, the way D.J.
Carroll played football today, our safety and our a wide receiver.
Just later, he did an amazing job and I'm so proud of.
Well, thank you so much.
Thank you.
All right.
Back to you, Randy.
All right.
Thank you, Raven.
So so he saw what we saw.
He saw that makes me feel he saw the number 22.
You see Rochelle and Green, as they should be, congratulating Prince Avenue.
They're on a hard fought game, but DJ curls just every place and did it with so many different ways and special teams and in and of course, running with the ball when you reap when he's the captain and at the end the defensive side of things as well.
But hey, there's a lot of good players on both sides of the ball, but particularly on this Eagles landing team.
And notice how he started talking about his junior class already.
And we've already talked about some of those freshmen and sophomores.
Savor the moment.
It's always hard to get back.
But you got to say right now this team is a is we've said a couple of times a program in the making.
Yeah.
They'll be they'll be favored to take it on next year.
But let's talk about today for a few more minutes here.
There's no doubt about that.
Take a look at the scoring early on.
Here's Green on the 23 yard touchdown run to get things started.
That was a 46 yard four play drive to make it seven nothing.
Prince Avenue with a huge.
Play at the time it looked like it might kind of turn the tide a little bit of.
Fake punt inside their own territory Eagles landing Christian then driving look they take a two touchdown lead into the locker room at halftime but a hard hit and then a recovery at the fumble second half kickoff.
And Jimmy is tearing instead of just being satisfied.
The fair catch, that pooch kicker just been tackled right there.
He takes it back 40 plus yards, puts them in position to score.
There's the young man the coach just mentioned, Jake Curl, with a 23 yard touchdown run and the extra point to make it the 14 to nothing at the time they reach deep on their chart you mentioned hey they got a lot of players Brad Moore 14 yard touchdown at the 345 mark of the third quarter down with his time play 60 yard drive and here comes Mr. Green again.
That's from 12 yards out.
That touchdown makes it 27.
Nothing extra point was no good.
And then Dalton Etheridge taps the scoring for Eagles landing Christian Academy with that one yard keeper to account for the 33 to nothing final here in the GHC State Championship game and they're ready.
We see the final 14, you know, a 13 and one record 13 consecutive wins, five shutouts and 12 of the 14 games won by 25 points or more.
That's that's domination of an entire class.
When you start doing something like that at the end, what stands out to me is is those margins.
Yes so many of those games and the defense pitching the shutout, that's remarkable.
This, what, six games in the middle of it with nine points being scored and.
Their two stars missed a lot of those games, but midrange in Rochelle were hurt.
I believe we're going to go down on the field here.
Yeah, it's it's it's as we pointed out, this entire the Prince Avenue Wolverines certainly did not throw in the towel at any point right up until the point when that clock reached zero.
So they absolutely.
And picking up this runner up trophy, they can be extremely proud of the effort that they produced here and against Eagles Lane.
And the interesting is, as they go back down on the field, they're off the podium, they seem happy with themselves, like, you know, maybe it's easier when it's 33 to nothing.
But they glad to be here.
You know, this team has won 24 games in the last two years.
They were a 500 or less program before that.
So I'm glad to see them come up here and say, hey, we're glad to be number two.
We lost to a damn good team who, by the way, is about to come on the field and get their trophies.
Yeah, the Eagles landing.
Christian Academy Chargers are about to go up on the podium to accept their championship trophy.
And so, again, congratulations to Prince Antonio.
There's no question that that their being here was a great accomplish for them.
Let's go down to Mark Harmon for the trophy presentation.
Thank you very much.
Let's congratulate all the Chargers and the Charger nation on a job well done.
And with that, I turn it over to the executive director of the.
HSA, Dr. Ralph swear to for the trophy presentation.
Thank you, Mark.
What a great way to.
Start our weekend.
Congratulations Eagles landing Christian Prince Avenue Christian what a great way classy guys to start this and now our friends from Georgia Farm Bureau are going to come to present the state championship trophy.
And go, guys, on behalf of Georgia Farm Bill, congratulations.
All right.
Congratulations.
You guys stay here talking to coach, guest, first coach, what a week for you.
A new baby earlier in the week and now a state championship trophy.
Yeah.
Well, we are we always win or lose.
Give honor to to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
And it was an honor to play.
It is honor to play another school.
In Prince Avenue who had the same mission that we do, which is raising young boys to be men and Jesus Christ.
And that's really what it's all about.
I'm proud of the way our team played, but I hope they go on and become strong.
Christian young men.
Well said, well said.
Let's talk the truth.
And they agree.
And he the end zone today heading to Purdue next year.
Talk a little bit about what this means to you to wrap up.
Your senior season with the state championship.
Berth.
Oh, oh, it feels pretty good.
This offense supported us from day one and ever since the Waco game.
So I like tell my fans first I like thank God though, because you know he's the first he's the head of our team and everything.
So I'd like to thank him.
So it's a blessing to be a part of this.
All right.
Standing behind you is Big Isaac Rochelle going to Notre Dame next year?
I you talk a little about what this means for you.
Oh, really?
Like we're talking before the game.
We're family, the fans, we're family.
And basically, we worked hard.
We got after it.
We trust in God.
You stayed humble.
We won.
Sophia's good because we're a family.
We went as a family.
We lose this.
But tonight we want to stay cares.
Let's go.
How about that?
Talk a little about the journey there for a to go back on the road was down and first through this year.
We just worked on I mean we came in the next morning 6 a.m., bunch of people working hard like coach says.
We were on a daily show and we just work hard and that's what got us where we are.
So we're thankful for that.
All right.
We want to congratulate Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.
The single and proud school state champion, Ready, Set trophy home for the big shot.
And congratulations.
And now our tailgate party will begin.
I'll send it over to Nicky Noto.
Nicky.
Thanks, Mark.
