He's coming in.
It's a helicopter slam jam.
He's going to pull up from three.
Watch this guy go wheel drive, backs it in and gets it below, everybody.
And welcome.
It's the Macon Center flex where all the action in the state basketball wise gets under way.
Taylor County Vikings undefeated 13 on the year twice beaten Turner County rebels It's the class-A public school basketball championship and we are looking for a dandy.
My friend Sam Crenshaw is here with us.
Sam, good to have you with me on this beautiful Thursday afternoon in the midstate.
Great to be with you, Darby.
Tell you what, let's get right to it.
From the Georgia EMC.
This is the road to the championship, the Taylor County, to see the tape at Greenville with that game comfortably Troop one and then Terrell County 5943 winners in order to make it to the game against Turner County here today.
Time now let's take a look at what kind of basketball game we're going to have.
Turner County got here by beating Hopkinsville 62 to 46 and then, of course, we've got all these great players on both sides.
When you've got a 58 and two overall record between both teams, you've got really good basketball.
You really do.
You have great basketball on both sides this week.
I think people are going to really enjoy what they get to see in the game and the players today.
Let's take a listen.
First of all, the player from Taylor County, it seems really well for them.
There's Richard Simmons.
He makes things happen.
And this is Junior's plays.
We're talking about a junior.
You listen, you see your points.
It's usually gets them for issues, 17 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.
She is one of the leaders.
Things go well for this basketball team and for Turner County.
How about a good win here Malaysia Yancey everything over 20 points per game eight rebounds you see in assists offense flows through her Twitter coach told us all about this lady rebels get set to go in this game today.
We're going to unveil some great stories behind the stories today during this game I one of the best ones to do that for us is our sideline reporter Raven Toronto's Raven.
Thanks, Tommie.
Now let's talk about Taylor County.
They're a team with lots of experience.
13 where excellent is a lifestyle for them.
Ten state titles.
This program is the only other school to do that is double plays at Wesleyan.
It shows you the kind of company they're in now with Coach Trautman is 36 years of experience and the exquisite skills of Rashica Simmons.
He should be fine to bag that 11 state title, but don't leave Turner out there.
Coming in off a 14 game winning streak.
And even though they're not used to the big stage the way that Taylor is, they're going to come in.
And if they can maintain their tempo and they can keep their composure and keep the game going the way they want to, they definitely have a chance to give Taylor a run for their money and back the program's first ever state title here.
Let's take a look at the starting lineup for today.
The region's bank starting lineup, Rashica Simmons and Kelce Towns is down, along with Marielle Towns, Destinee Mathis and Michael Green, undefeated Taylor County 30 going oh on the year that's their starting lineup.
Now let's take a look at Turner County's starting lineup for regions back at Saraya office.
Sharonda Burwell, a malaysia Yancy version of Barnes and Taylor Daniels.
Not a lot of seniors in either lineup, if you will take note of that, Sam.
No, not a lot of seniors and just the players that we talked about from the outset are juniors junior.
They are seen in the lead role this basketball team, the coaches don't mind allowing them to play that role.
I tell you what, when you go 30, you know, you got to be lucky and good.
And we talked with the head head basketball coach yesterday, Coach Trautman, and he said the only time they've been behind this year was seven to nothing as amazing.
The only time they've been behind at 130 on the road, they tried to get well.
There he is.
I spoke with him just moments ago.
I said, Coach, how'd you sleep last night?
I said, Not too well.
He said, Well, that's what lets him know he's in the right place right now.
He's been in this situation many times before and he knows it gets a little bit of a restless night.
He's ready to go.
He feels like his team is ready to go.
By the way, the game, they fell behind seven to nothing and they overcame that and won it by 11.
Man.
And that was the closest to losing a game.
That game all season, fantastic.
Doesn't look touched.
Does Campbell know?
Fourth year at her alma mater coach coaching the team there?
She has him there and has them ready to go.
There are no secrets now with huddle that all that and the film and everything available and in fact what we were talking to is you can break it down for you break it down field, watch everything loud if you don't have anything.
I'll tell you why.
After an afternoon, 3:00 game, we have got we've got some folks coming in to the Macon Center.
Blake's here.
I think folks have been looking forward to this week, just like we have as well here at GPB Sports.
People are looking forward to this weekend and see some great basketball and we're going to get things started with a game that could be one of the very best ones of the entire weekend.
Michael Green will tip it off for Taylor County of Barnes, for Terrell Cam for Turner County Ball in the air Tip goes to Taylor County Lady Vikings high tempo shot for Kelsey Towns and a turnover on the turnover Taylor will force the action you're going to enjoy this rebound up no good here's turnaround a break now going to reset and reload top of the key that's the answer.
Good What she does smooth as silk.
She's been doing it all season long.
Yes, she has.
Taylor County, top of the game.
Fake drive.
Good for second Simmons You think they've done this before?
There is.
The people we talked about at the top of this broadcast have been as advertised so far two on one break up and no good follow good foul call it name again Malaysia the Yancey she is good this one good Go down to the wire this one this one is is your typical it's starting like your typical championship game Sam really is it not really doing is no there's no feeling out process going on record right after from the start.
Well let's shake hands and here we go in four court Taylor County top of the game drive baseline no good Turner comes out of there with it in a hurry Good brush Johnny Barnes for fourth something Taylor County is not accustomed to their actual behind in this game two points and it's early time at the six minute mark that'll take care of a margin there.
Chelsea towns who stick it out can't seem there's little pressure stolen away.
Turner County down and out of bounds Technical College System of Georgia Keys to success Take control of the boards for Taylor County and play pressure defense They've done that so far.
The shot is up and no good and out of bounds.
Taylor County going the other way.
Lady Vikings are just relentless actually on offense.
Turner County Keys, slow down the tempo and grab an early lead.
They've done that and I'm not sure how much the tempo has been slowed saying, no, no, this tempo is pretty high.
It's pretty hot right now.
Five and a half minutes left in the first quarter, up and off the glass.
Good.
Tyler County with pressure in four court office up no good follow up batted away whistle and a foul Jamarra Smith is called that Wow that's her first office will trigger it in under the basket Nice throw up and in that name again Wow.
Elijah Yancey sits inside outside the way very, very quick.
Simmons with the foul her first up and good he's got eight They're all tied at ten Downey baseline no good Turner for four He's got to pull it up now in the lane batted away now top of the key then a reset office area offers drive and firing No good rebound again yes drops up you know good follow that in off of whose hands was there a whistle and a foul green with the foul second got a whistle in a timeout whistle and a timeout.
Hey we're off to a roaring start halfway through the first quarter.
All right.
It's Turner County ten, Taylor County ten.
We got us a ballgame.
We'll be back after this timeout.
LA la Rams, Taylor County, four out of seven from the field, Turner four out of nine and an even ballgame.
That's pretty doggone nice.
However, Turner has only been one of their last five.
Maybe a little bit of concern.
But tell you what, that you can look at this and relation.
Yancey After a hot start scoring eight Attorney County's ten points in this game, getting it done, Turner Let's take a look at what Yancey has done so far.
Nice move inside.
Nice follow inside.
How do you lose her underneath?
How do you lose her?
Somebody needs to be holding the jersey somewhere to make sure she's stationary.
She's hard to contain.
Yes, she is.
Simmons Her second personal shots up.
No good.
Tyler Daniels will shoot the second second one up and good down.
He going to slow it down a little bit until they get the half court now in a hurry down on their up.
Oh, yes.
Why?
Hello, Yancey.
Surprise, surprise.
I see.
You ready for this game?
She is so ready.
Take another look.
Got the block and gets it done on the defensive end as well.
Taylor County, top of the key three blocked.
Got to pull it up and down at the post outside quick defense by Turner that two three zone that 23 stack they run follow up is good nice move in there by Mario Towns Taylor up by one Turner in fourth court in a hurry shot is up and no good rebound pulled out by Taylor County's Kelce Towns crosses the time line shoots it left side and you got to pull it back in Turner gets back in a hurry on defense proper the key trigger no good batted away Tanner County fires no good yet again Daniels with the rebound on the break up and no good towns going to come out of there with it Taylor is one of their last seven defense is in tip top their forcing the turnovers forcing the turnovers that two three zone is working on Taylor right now It really is close double total It sucks.
That's for the defense.
The choice for her to call the 23 stack that's what they love.
The work has been pretty effective for them so far.
He's already out of the curve, so it's down to serious business now.
He's out of the go.
I ask him about this team compared to other teams.
He's had a lot of success.
Is this team probably a bit more better and better athletically?
A little more athletic is what these teams in the past.
I'll do it because it's just a just a cyclical area right now.
Limited deal again Yancy Grimes good and finish that's how you finish She's got spin coach wants to talk about it.
Turner County 13.
Taylor County 12.
I don't know that there has been an edge as far as quickness and tenacity on defense from either team.
Turner seems to be a little more spread out on offense than than Taylor County.
I well yeah but and is how they got here is a look at things with Taylor down you see the resume five state champions two undefeated seasons they're trying to add a third one here today to eight state championship appearances.
Three state runner ups and Coach Trautman in his 36th season with the Lady Vikings and Turner County last appeared in 2000, winning streaks of 11 and 14/3 straight to a region, Title 28 and two.
That's their best in the last 14 years.
This is some good basketball.
Same.
They look down at top of the key left side baseline shift, you know but a little short who gets the rebound Yancy cross the time line Yancy Gunner Reed said everything for the lady rebels from Ashburn, Georgia to the left side looking inside turnarounds up there no good no gun to go out of bounds.
I think somebody got a piece of that one.
Rashad of Orange took the shot.
Shot and what was shot and fell short got four back comes Taylor County methodically kind of walking it down the floor towns look at that hand that defense for saying that great defense Yancy double team goes right side down a reset right left side back up back and no good batted around Yancy loses it Here it comes towns pass up no real follow yeah that's tiara Gibson there All right call it a foul on her I think that they going to go back and hold her record over Look at this.
Yeah.
Gibson tiara.
Gibson.
She's coming in at the end of the play right here.
And she's over the back.
Yeah, that's her first few in the crowd disagreeing with the officials.
You just a few.
Nothing serious, folks, though.
It's the first quarter.
We're just underway.
Let's settle in here.
I don't know that we're going settle in.
No, you know, not the way these teams are starting.
No, no.
This is not going to be a settled in basketball thing.
Yes, it is.
Right now we put Lance back inside, got to drive the baseline.
Somebody is going to go down hard.
A blocking foul going to be called on Tierra Gibson game.
That's her second Yeah taking another look at it yeah Gibson David the old knee out of bounds there the kill office the office system ready to go to the free throw stripe.
We've got the Ryan and Zakia office three tosses.
Good Turner by two if you've just joined us.
Second one, no good.
You want to come out of there town is going to bring it ahead, shoot it left side and back out and going to reset Kelsey Towns goes right side at two three is just not comfortable with Tyler Here comes towns driving whistle and a foul and I think we've got one on Taylor Daniels here that was her first we just got to reach in there with the left hand Yeah that was generous.
And what I do Towns no doubt she's been spot on with her shooting and the last two times she shot the ball it just kind of rim been around out she was deadly early though and again on the free throw Nancy Wow almost walk the answer now I'm going to come across the time line.
Turner County leads it 1413.
Last shot up under no good towns coming out of there batted away with 9.7 left, Nancy that time, everyone looking for her to take the shot and she gave up the pass like everyone was expecting her to go right up with the shot.
She didn't back down.
Towns will trigger it in looking and three ball no good batted away picked up by Taylor County at the buzzer not the buzzer 1.7 batted out of bounds for Turner and another foul Central goalie picked up the foul that time Kelly with the foul that's her first shot is no good Mary all towns going to the line going to take Kelsey out just in case you give her a little break.
Both teams are deep on the bench really are and this one thing that the head coach kind of said, you're saying that she did.
Sure.
She could play nine players go nine deep.
This was playing the bench.
One of the one of the strengths of her team shot is up and good on the free throw and the quarter's done to end there.
Wow.
Is everything.
We thought it was going to be Sam Jessup we thought was going to be.
And we're just getting started tied at the end of one.
We'll be back after this.
We have played blind at the Macon Center Flex Coliseum in Macon, Georgia.
GP vs longest running local show Georgia Traveler continues to scour the Peach State for all the newest, oldest, weirdest and wildest attractions for you and your family to explore.
Watch Georgia Traveler Fridays at eight and look forward to a special episode on Friday, April 3rd.
That's all about golf.
We have played one and decided the only thing we've really decided are our is both.
These teams are good basketball teams, really good teams, and the players that we expected to play the big in this game are doing so especially one young lady right there with the ball right now from start they're going to walk away she is Turner had two personal fouls in the first quarter.
Taylor had seven turnover to Taylor County towns top of the key goes right side three ball rushed to Simmons got a good look and sent it home.
Taylor leads 1714 on the move batted away towns comes out of there with it fires at right side Simmons down under up Destiny Mack is thrilled about that and now you see how Taylor Curry does what they do the defensive presence another turnover stolen rebound comes out of there Yancey and back court now bumped out of bounds.
Wow Soraya office bumped out of bounds and another foul This lady Vikings team had started the second quarter but by turning up the pressure, let's take a look at the last one here.
Sam off the turnover towns to Simmons and down under up perfect foul like the old Celtics fast break ball barely ever touch the floor Just keep passing to you get to the bucket seven Oh Taylor run until that free throw drive office Taylor County 19 Turner 50 Top of the key Simmons goes to towns back to Simmons The left side fires down Just put it out outlet down is heating up Sam time out Turner County had to make some adjustments obviously this is a Taylor County coach drought but he's got a major winner And then you see you see Coach Kimble talking to a team Simmons, you see this one last three up fan.
Good bye, Destiny Mathis.
That'll make you call a time out.
It will, especially after seeing the turnovers that he seemed to start this quarter.
You see Coach right here, right there.
He's had his team to go out and and turn up the volume on the offense to start the second quarter and it is paying off for them.
See how they've done this throughout the season there's working for them in this game make the difference.
The two teams have play pretty much on an even keel in that first quarter.
Taylor's three out of three in the second quarter.
Turner has not taken a shot either.
And then at the free throw line Tyler County with two turnovers Turner with five feel good thing Taylor leads Taylor leads in fouls as well.
They're aggressive on defense, full court pressure in the four caught up and nice break ball bounces out of there town is going to come out of there with it WHISTLE and a foul Wow not a good foul there that time Daniels on the second Daniels just throws great if she had the ball in the corner got a nice pass shot didn't fall for it she just reached back.
She was frustrated because she missed that shot.
Yep.
Didn't need to pick up that second one that way.
Nope.
Simmons Across the time line, two towns long downtown, three guys.
You got the numbers on that one.
Wow Kelce towns from downtown Macon hello.
Simmons Two towns down at the base line up and no good whistle and yet another foul And you see that with Taylor Daniels only on the bench right now they want to look on the inside they get a basket didn't get the basket this time, but they did draw the foul and now they get some free throws by green at the line for two good.
Taylor has really made a nice run here.
What was an even ballgame in the first quarter has all of a sudden gotten out of hand here averaging three points and eight rebounds.
One assist per game.
Second shot is good across the country, reminding your team, look the box out and just, you know, try to keep their heads on the pause.
Taylor County with a 15 to 1 run right the press driving up no good whistle and a foul that's going to be on Michael Green I thought you had good position there, but obviously not since I'm not calling it.
You're not wearing the stripes today.
There you go on offense.
We'll go to the line.
Let's see if this is still moving.
So she was made.
Just got a good glance, that's all.
I didn't really focus on it.
It just got a good blend.
Excuse me, Sam.
Oh, oh, oh.
Terrell Taylor County 27.
Turner County 15.
Second one.
No good.
Batted around.
Follow up.
That's good.
Yeah.
Version Yancey Yancy get to put it back up.
This team's got to crawl back into this game.
She's going to have to be a big part of it.
She's got 12 of the 16 points somebody else needs to go to work.
Two towns, right side, left side.
Simmons looking inside and nowhere to go.
Now to driving towns up Jumper go towns Got three for that shot one yes he gambled on the steal it didn't come up with it Turner and four caught driving No good whistle yet another foul Tierra Gibson I believe is the guilty party on this one is it towns going to the line now is a key offense.
Boy Taylor has just exploded in the first two and a half minutes of this second quarter.
This is a shocker.
It really is.
When you want to see how to get to where is this storm, they really are able to retain the boys.
They're great team.
They are.
They've been tested throughout the season.
You got to score when the clock has stopped, but you at the free throw line, it's a free throw.
Nice takeaway, nice take away by, I guess, Yancey Yancey.
She has gotten the work, turned it over.
Go home.
Crowd Because that's what good defense thunder about.
Maria Cantwell Generally when you have a turnover like that traveling, yes, they're working hard, but as you said moments ago, somebody had to step up and get along with it slowly.
She needs her 2918 11 point margin.
Simmons shoots it left side up left he no good Taylor kind of hard on the boards but Turner comes out of there with it and they back out of the pressure defense which was a surprise driving the lane up no good Simmons comes out of there with it for Taylor County got to pull back now and take a look right and go to towns three ball down town for her Oh not moving alone like that That's what she'll do to beauty Oh, mama.
Wow.
She's got 13 up, Ben No good Rebound, Yancy driving shooting no good towns rebound Taylor on the break ahead to Simmons up and no good Oh she goes down hard Wow Simmons went down look thinks he is office with a foul Taylor count it 32 Turner County 18 352 left in the quarter Kelly Towns has had a career here in the second quarter.
She's really wearing it out.
She is getting it done.
Let's take a look at it from outside.
She's a great perimeter shooter.
Put her anywhere, the three point stripe.
She can do it wide open for this one.
That one that she got the members bounce on that one to finish the running jumper.
Wow.
You've got to get somebody to stay with her.
You can't forget about it.
You might need to to stay with her.
She is wearing it out.
And he really is having a big game.
We talked a lot about the shoot, the Simmons challenge for this team coming into the game with urgency Jackson Towns and what she has done today for the lady Vikings 13 points she's wearing it out Turner When the clock has stopped there's only six out of 12.
They've been sent to the line.
A lot to got to do better than that you game like this yeah you need it in a game like this you got it You got to keep those free throws.
14 point margin of error at the line.
Good Now 15 Simmons Simmons and Towns have put on a clinic here in the second quarter.
Let's be honest about it Sam really have She's got one more good like you said that mask cheaters touch you can't you can teach it obviously coach Trautman can but now you said it right you get a good roll Yancey up fan no good whistle and yet another foul that's on towns one yeah her second down Shantel Crowley shooting two this one is up and good use the glass that's what's there like that you know hit that square that's what it is that's what it's here for your bounce back.
She has to be thankful.
Hey we were just happy to have a back and do it over and matter what it was made of.
Nice rebound.
No good taking the best out of bounds.
Let's is going to be Taylor County ball out of bounds.
Taylor County has really put the pedal to the metal here in the second quarter as the quarter started with the teams tied at 14 and Turner has scored five points errant pass looking baseline down there.
Turner gets the turnover and we'll have the other way just to be Mathis didn't come up with that full court pressure yet again and the answer is really working hard down in the corner Bounce pass taken away by Tyler Whistle and a foul yet again or traveling with the foul Kelly I think no I think everybody else thought it was too but obviously someone stepped on a lot of them around Turner are going to put it in play down under up and no good rebound got to come out of there two towns ahead and good destiny madness for the bucket Chelsea towns had that seven calling him up.
He threw the pass and she hit the deck.
It's defense to Ian Yancy up no good towns rebound long with the rebound up man Good by Destiny Mathis 39 points for Mathis it's really slipping away from turn it down into trouble.
They get beaten on the boards.
They've been turning it over in the second in the second quarter, it in beat on the boards.
They only get one shot.
The opposite in be sure to catch up on GP news Emmy Award winning nature series Georgia Outdoors follow host Sharon Collins as she explores the beauty of our state.
Take Georgia outdoors only on Fridays at 830 and look forward to a new episode that explores St Catherine's Island coming on April the third.
What's a beautiful place?
Oh, what are you talking about?
Something that is special.
Turner County 27 to 5.
Run 1872515 turnovers by Turner this quarter Turner driving up no good missed it under the basket double dribble and yet another turnover and that's Joe Coley here comes Taylor County in four court Mathis now at the top of the key Yeah they don't have a problem with anybody playing the guard position do they really do shadows up No Good Mathis Down under and no good whistle and a foul.
Brianna Gallman.
It's her first to ten left and a half.
Nancy comes back to work.
She had a short breather, and now she's back into the ballgame.
She's been doing it all for the Turner County team, but not enough in the second quarter.
Taylor County foul there, Shalanda Burwell up and Airborne.
This one for real office.
And tomorrow Smith will go toe the line office free throw is good.
Yeah.
That's the first one on offense right?
That second shot by the lefty is good as Lamar Smith in four court Turner County Yancy drive and whistle foul Courtney Long I believe the guilty party on this one Taylor County has just exploded here in the second quarter and once again Turner's on the free throw line they've not been not done well from the charity stripe and this is another one but as you said time you got to make the most from the shot.
But you got a shot.
You got to make it Miss both of them.
Yancy went out of bounds to Turner County, going to stop and fire it up and no rebound is going to come out of there.
The town towns going to dodge and fire ahead.
And Jamal Smith lost it out of bounds.
That was pretty nice.
We had a guy who came in and just looked at it and said, no, you're not going up with this or not this time at least pretty good little block there towns figures it in Simmons top of the key Smith down under a bend over the back of the backboard Taylor County has scored 56 points in this quarter We still got a minute 39 to go Turner will trigger it in Tyler is seven out of Lebanon this quarter and field goal Yancey under pressure passes right side up No good rebound is going to come out of there too Taylor County towns in full court goes to Smith down on the left hand side crosscourt to Simmons fakes passes back to Smith he fires no good Turner going to come out of there with it at the 105 mark of the first half they goes fancy nice move but it would not fall follow up no good Turner going to trigger it in under the basket Sam elation gassy those shots that were going for here in the first quarter for some reason are not finding not finding the way here in the second quarter Turner two of last night team in field goal Wow sets up holy smoke for the street edition just one basketball official have you thought about who like whoa I didn't think so What happens now Collins second foul that was close to a T close very to the letter T?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Not needed at this point.
He doesn't get a frustrated second quarter for this Turner County.
Yes, it has.
Simmons going to drive and pass it off and get it back out to Simmons to Towns and I believe they're going to burn the clock here Smith he's going to fire it up and Miss and Turner is going to come out of there with it up and no good follow good final is the key office with the basket got a steal up and good Yancey and a foul Give me a little shot of courage their offense makes some things happen defensively they got the turnover Here's a double look and then gives it up to Yancey for the finish long with a foul here second Yancey with a chance for three here Tyler County six out of six Turner three out of ten for out of 11 now so Turner has been getting to the stripe they have to get to the straight just have a big converting there.
You got to score when the clock has stopped towns back for Cranford shot no good bounce followed no good whistle and a foul And my man yet Carter will go to the line see who is on the foul line Yancey Yancey with a foul.
That's her first.
The second battle has left Taylor at the line.
Free throw.
Good.
Oh, I think they're perfect, Vanya Thomas.
I think they're perfect at the free throw line.
They've missed three.
One missed one second.
One is up there.
No good long, no good.
Taylor County just exploded in the second half.
They did.
And it started with their defense.
Tommy.
They came out and they really ramped up the intensity on the defensive end of the play.
And you see what the result is.
Now at halftime.
Raymond Tirado has with has a conversation now with Coach Trautman.
Coach, obviously scoring is not a problem, but fouls seem to be the problem.
Do you think you can afford to keep up that aggressive style of defense?
Well, are we going to try?
I mean, we got a bench over there, so we can use a couple of people, but I'll be saying we giving them two or three opportunity on the offensive end.
We don't work all week about boxing.
These guys out and we just not done a good job.
Their specific picked up a couple of crazy fouls, so because we just didn't box them out.
Right.
And they seem to be getting through the holes of the peer pressure.
Can we keep seeing that?
Well, I hope we can.
We can work that out.
We just got to move our feet, get in front of people.
Maybe they need you out there.
Well, I could not promise you.
Good luck, Coach.
I came back to you guys on the set.
Thank you very much.
Raven, Toronto.

All right, We are getting ready for the second half of game one of the three day hoopla balloons announced as the Boys and Girls State basketball team.
Coming up, it's Turner County and Taylor County in the final 16 minutes.
And don't go anywhere.
Next, we have Tommy Palmer and Sam Crenshaw with the first half highlights before we head into the second half.
It's been the been game time.
Remember, you do that until morning.
Let's take a look.
It's 4124 in Taylor County over Turner County.
Boy, the explosion was just sudden.
Just Sam, it just took off the second quarter.
What you said defensive effort by the Taylor County team is what really made the difference.
They come out, it was turnovers and also shooting the ball well, doing all the things that show you why they have the record of 30 and older season and it even going to the break and go to the locker room with Apple still talking about things that they weren't doing right Unbelievable.
Now he's leading this as his margin of a lead here in the state championship game, 17 point lead.
And he was pleased with the way they had done things there.
They weren't boxing out well, but boxing out well, giving up too many fouls, Ray But now has.
Let's turn, counselor.
Yeah, let's go to Raymond Toronto.
Yeah, guys, we're sitting here talking about a little basketball right now.
No, I know you're giving me some pointers about what these guys can do out there.
It seems like you guys can get the rebounds.
You seem to be getting through the holes on the peer pressure, but when you get on offensively, it seems that you're at the tempo of Taylor.
So how do you get your own tempo out there on the court?
We just got to play our game and we're and we're not doing that right now.
We're playing out of character.
So we got to go back to play Turner County basketball.
All right, Coach.
Well, good luck.
Thank you.
All right, Tommy.
Thank you, Raymond.
Let's take a look at the halftime stats presented by Farm Bureau.
13 out of 30, Taylor County, eight out of 32 for Turner, 25% from the field goals, 43 for Turner County, three point field goals.
That's where Taylor has been deadly.
Six out of 12 No.
Three point field goals for Turner rebounds basically even free throws, eight out of 17 for Turner, that's hurt them up, nine out of 12.
For Taylor, the turnovers have been costly, ten turnovers to seven second chance points.
Taylor didn't need many and Turner had 11.
And tell you talk about the three point shot.
Remember Tasha Kimble says you really don't have a player That's a really great three point shooter in second half to get back into this game, you kind of need that.
But it's not even they don't have a player who does well of Ben Simmons to Smith two towns down on the baseline go they have a big game they have got one that can shoot it from anywhere on this court Yancy in the back court Hey, break the press break is up.
Ben Good Nice break.
That time.
Excellent break by office.
That's what it's going to take.
I want to take you to break the ball back up the court in a hurry before the fourth year.
What kind can get set defensively?
Simmons and Smith playing keep away now two towns down under up and no good bouncing around Follow up no good Turner County going to lose it out of bounds going to bounce off of Bresciano Barnes Wow that's it Taylor can knock it out of bounds so.
Barnes going to trigger it in offense and four court shot is up no good rebound for four and Turner going to fire good office offense yeah so via offense Simmons to Smith two towns going to pull it back out and reset up bang Good Mario Towns with a basket rattling on Turner zero office couldn't get that foot down in time another costly turnover here you see what they're trying to do though They're trying to get back up before they can get back there, before Taylor County can get set up in their defensive set.
They have put the pedal to the metal, and that's the only way they're going to be able to play this game.
Towns driving gets a screen good on those windows.
Oh, wow.
Yes, he does 20 points for count.
He's got our number so far.
I don't think that's going to be the last one to get you off the glass.
Good.
Nice move by Yancey.
She's got 17.
She's having a good day.
She just needs a little help offensively Really does when it looks like a off This is kind of stepping up to try to help her out here in the third quarter.
Long shot batted away by Simmons after the rebound and it's going to be Turner County ball Barnes will trigger it in now you see the pressure coming up here by Taylor County and Yancey batted away by Tyler County Mario Towns bounced it away from the answer.
This is what we saw early in the second quarter from Taylor County office in back court now in full court trying to drive and go left side down up and under.
No good rebound up and no good by Yancey but it's a foul bang elbow in that place and shoot the third foul on towns Yeah yes he's trying to get that right arm loose being there elbow on that one was a healthy foul wouldn't you say.
Yeah it was.
And take a little look at it.
Yeah.
Might be a little bit of blood on that elbow.
Let's take a look.
Follow up right here where a lot of arms and a lot of arms might have been stretched by a nail or something coming zakiya off is going to come in and shoot the free throws second, and look here at the basket.
First one.
Good.
Then another one's coming.
It's pretty good work on Yancey.
Here you see the scars, but scratch there.
Yeah.
Second one.
Good.
They brought the right one in to shoot free throws.
Didn't like there.
They did something they were having trouble with in the first half, Simmons crossed the time line left side Smith looking in gets it back to Simmons to Smith Towns down around the baseline now back outside Simmons jumper No good rebound follows down Tiera Gibson she was working she was working he also was working there.
He was going to pick up the foul she's going for steals.
He's just being aggressive defensive end.
Let's take a look at this down on his she's working 42 gets the rebound puts it back up and in great effort the third foul on Gibson She's been working hard out there on the basket Burnell Burwell triggers it and offers driving up and no good rebound comes out to Turner office going to drive and pass it down low out of bounds looking for Taylor Daniels down around the baseline as she couldn't she's going to have a lot of turnover for Turner powered Taylor by 18 right pounds up no good follow no good follow no good follow No good.
Lots of opportunities, lots of chances.
Travel, travel or either a jump ball.
Jump ball.
Turner County ball.
All the opportunities that Taylor County had looked back time after time, backboards, nobody saw you know it just as no boxing, Nobody's beating them on the boards.
So they're getting more chances.
Wow.
Turner in back court office ahead to Yancy who's back it up and good he is a good basketball player on the move.
She's really best like that moving in transition as she gets the big finish and nice little bandage on that elbow for 19 points for Yancy towns with a jumper short rebound going to get it Turner got it One of those emphatic rebound Yeah I offer up you know raw follow good That's what they've been trying to do trying to beat the got it up the floor coach throughout the nose with two he calls it timeout 21 points for Yancy Coach Trautman is not going to be happy.
Well he wasn't happy going to the locker room with the big lead and that lead shrinking a little bit.
He's not to be happy until this one's over I'm sure.
Down 8 to 2 Turner County running back with more after this timeout.
You know, I do not know 315 nice little mini run there Sam by Turner County and they very nice cut it to 14 which is the closest they've been in a while they keep this up they're going to make it an interesting finish here interesting fourth quarter you can't say has been special.
It has been has been in here, but had leave the game for a time.
You get that for the move, bandage on it.
She goes right back in and goes right back to work.
And you look at it right there, number 15, Taylor is four out of ten Taylor County in the third quarter, Turner is five out of eight.
Taylor County leads by 14.
It's still a tough hill to climb for Turner.
Really.
It's like you said, they really don't have a three point shooter.
Anyone that excels that in a game like this, that always helps.
Pounds looks inside around jumper no good good board work no good rebound good for work by Turner and ahead the Yancey who's going to drive and fire and get hit again once again trying to beat Taylor County back up the floor before the defense can get set to try to force the action and make something happen.
She is quick fouls on green that's her fourth.
That doesn't bode well.
Yancey Free throw is good.
The thing that's amazing about this is she she's got this she can she has done really good work on the offensive boards have missed a lot of shots down under there but she's getting those rebounds to keep Turner from getting Yancey shoots another no good Gibson comes out of there with it gets it to Simmons ahead.
Two towns will stop and get it back to Simmons over to Smith Left side drive and fire Good Wow Whistle and the foul on that one two.
Mathis Destiny Mathis at the line right now third foul Daniels free throw is no good destiny Mathis I have been calling her.
Smith I thought it was for a while yet.
Oh, not good.
And not the shot that they wanted.
SIMMONS pounds No good kind of county ball going the other way.
232 left in the third quarter, 15 point Taylor County League.
Now Taylor County goes back to get into their defensive set.
The two left side office.
What do you mean nothing there.
Yancy going to drive fire and no good Rebound high out of there by Courtney Long I had a Simmons up fan go no basket and leave it off Going to call charging Yes they are going to call it charge third foul strong move to the basket Yes nice acrobatic move And they wave it off.
No basket.
Barnes triggers it in office Hammer County with a ball down by 50 up bang no good rebound comes out Taylor County towns left side up by Simmons no good rebound going to come out of there too Turner headed the other way Nancy across the time line drive down Main street no good nice shot but a little too high Follow up is good Gomer right there at the right place.
The offensive board puts it back up.
And in Nice follow up by Gomer Simmons.
Pressure from office right side now back around Mathis top of the key to Simmons who's going to drive yet again I was going to be on Turner County Gomer with the foul that's our second Simmons goes to the line Well they attack the basket don't see him and they do they really do shots no good Second one up coming they see coach Trautman he's Pinson.
He's walking back and forth like he's nervous, he's weak.
Go look at looking.
You'd think this was a three point game.
But the second one no good rebound comes out to Turner County.
He's intense.
That's why they're throwing it out Office drive no good high up off the glass rebound comes out to Taylor County foul is going to be on office That's her second towns will trigger it in less than a minute left in the third quarter 13 points Taylor County lead Turner kind of hanging in there the last four or 5 minutes and making some progress.
Simmons going to drive and score what a finish Wow in traffic very acrobatic nice layup move Yancey going to drive and score you could do it too Oh this is how this game started Tyreke is 24 points now for Yancey Oh less than 20 seconds left Simmons going to do a little dribbling exhibition court She's good with that basketball Mathis loses it Yancey 5 seconds Nice move good 26 points now for Yancey and the lead has been cut to 13.
Nice, nice run by Turner County.
Yancey had 11 points in the quarter.
We played three.
Still plenty of action to come from the Macon Center Flex, Taylor County, 54, Turner County 43.
As we go to break, we have played three 5443 Tanner County leads Turner County heading into the fourth quarter, missing Downton Abbey like an airball already Sunday night answers to drama night time GPB with more of the passion, intrigue and mystery you've come to expect.
Get your drama fix Sunday night on GPB.
Sam Turner County finished the quarter with a 15 to 6 run in the last 606.
Taylor was one of ten.
TURNER five out of ten.
That's a good way to end the quarter really is in positive things happening once again.
Lacey Yancey But she got some help in this quarter, really saying that she needed to have some more to go along with her, with this team back in striking distance to try to have a chance in this basketball game.
And that was the office.
He came out and got some points in the second and second, third quarter.
Yancey ten points in the first five and the second 11 in the third.
She got 2626 as start the fourth quarter Simmons driving jumper no good short rebound comes out to Taylor Mathis back to Simmons going to reset Simmons Mathis Simmons pretty good defense by Turner Simmons going to drive and lay it out Oh my God what a move Nice lay up and waited and waited and waited for the Turner County defense to spread it out just a bit different.
Just enough room to to the lane.
And she did 11 points now for Simmons shot goes up Turner no good follow good turnover turnover up and over the backboard whistle and a foul the office if that was a give that's for fouls on Gibson they're getting him some foul over here they are they are the people who've been given the most second and third chances under the basket.
Free throw is good.
The fire is deadly at that free throw line.
Second one good, nothing.
But yeah, they got us a ten point ballgame now.
Turner Pressure in the back court.
SIMMONS across the time line in traffic out of traffic trying to drive baseline can't go down to shoot it back out to Mathis top of the key out Mathis trying to go and can't turn around no good high towns follows no good reverse on Turner County Yancy Turner one quarter man in defense and it's working for the right now they cut into this Taylor Kennedy he got 37 and they got that crowd back in the game Yancy driving firing no good batted around.
Taylor going to come out of there with it.
Turnover, turnover turnover County ball office making it happen again.
5647.
Nice run by Turner County number 22 and White does whatever it takes.
The office girls have been special today.
Yes, yes, yes.
Taylor County by nine jumper.
Good.
Nancy, you ready to take this game over?
She's ready to take over.
Tell me 28 points for you, Nancy.
The lead is seven Mathis two towns driving up and no good rebound.
Turner County comes out on her with it gets up the ante.
Here come the lady Rebels ahead too hard out of bounds 535 left.
Oh my it comes to what's next for Turner County Turner going to Collins coming back Coley Coley and Burwell Yancey or is it Burwell.
Burwell.
Burwell Simmons and back court she has really been pressured Coley to Mathis Yancey trying to get a hand in there towns going to drive jumper high no good rebound going to come out to Simmons back to Mathis Oh pressing defense man to man or a woman to woman if you prefer.
Get back to man.
They do that sometimes they come out of that two three zone, seven turnovers, throws it away.
TURNER Going to get it going the other way.
Well turnover by Taylor County Simmons just a little bit behind Mario Towns another opportunity with his turn a county Jean and the ante across the timeline slowing down the pace a bit going right side pulling up it's at the office back to Yancey now to office baseline tries to get it out of there and Tanner County with the steal towns in a hurry stops behind her back whistle whistle Wow on offense fouls on offense that is her second third No shooting foul yet 5649 for 31 left Let's give Turner County some credit 12 turnovers for Taylor County 14 Turner County Yeah there's not been a mistake pre game got a whistle but it has been a good one second quarter second quarter Turner County is making all the turnovers and a lot of the mistakes Taylor County has some here and I'm sure that's quite concerning for Coach Trautman.
He has been pacing the sideline.
Mathis Now it is.
SMITH Top of the key.
SMITH Trying to drive gets it to Towns no good rebound Turner County two on two break intercepted by Simmons now the turnover by Turner County by Simmons to Smith to Simmons yet again Simmons driving the lane pulls it back out goes to towns who's going to drive and miss rebound Taylor good the lead is nine power kind of going to call timeout with 318 left in this one Taylor County gets the basket they've got to restore some restore some order for them.
Let's do this.
Turner County is doing some really positive things back into the game.
But here's one of the people who brought him back here Simmons driving, getting that best from outside, from outside here, and then driving all the way in traffic.
There's another one.
That's the move that I thought really was so special right here.
It really was, really was in the second half for this team.
Look at Coach Troughton.
He is coastal, he's workers.
He seems to.
Yeah, That's how you get to be 30, you know, where you go and that's how you have how many wins now?
850.
I think he's got 50 in his career and 175.
Unbelievable.
There he is, 36 years.
The lady Vikings Yancey left side too often in trouble.
He hasn't taken a load on a breakaway.
Smith lost it often.
Saraya the other way back to Yancey across the time line to office, going to pull up and give it away good player Daniels William with the finish seven point Taylor County lead clock becomes a factor now Smith to long now to Smith They've gone to the fourth quarter corners now and say what we're done Yep you can do it you don't have a shot Yup you can do that batted away Simmons going to drive and not even an offer yet they're putting it in the deep freeze now Yancey got to reach out and foul Simmons They can't let him run the ball this long without fouling and they're going to come on out and put him on the line Happened here Delta Towns got to trigger it in on the sideline here a lot of action and this particular area right in front of us.
Yes it was Simmons walking on poling Simmons not even offering to shoot 7.37 the game Fowler coaches coaches telling him to foul those goodness in foul and they won't do it Yancy chasing towns now we've got a foul although we have a timeout and timeout as good as this one's been we've got another great one coming up We've got a class single a public final boys game, Calhoun County Cougars out of Madison, Georgia, and Greenville Patriots catcher Tyson Campbell.
Good reminder.
He's come a little far out of the coach's box.
This was all the way up midcourt.
But she's trying to get their protection.
I'm going to go ahead and foul the play.
They do it free, throw it good bottom Turner for assist on 18 field goals Second one no good Daniels with a rebound Yancey baseline back to Yancey WHISTLE foul Simmons her fourth with 141 left she needs to be very careful you don't want to play the last 30 or 40 seconds without Simmons with the ball in her hand.
He's been able to run up a lot of clock here in the fourth quarter there ball handling skills jumpers up and no good by Daniels on the inbounds play whistle and a foul on Mario towns It's her for all of a sudden Taylor down is loaded down with fouls free throw and no doubt that's been the story right there He missed so many in the first half.
Yep He had a woeful time with a run in the first half of this game.
Sure did.
Second one coming up by Daniels, 138 left Taylor County eight free throws Good lead is now seven.
Got a handle on it, inflicted it out of bounds Elation Yancey often Taylor County ball towns trying to put it in the field for good Koehler working on Simmons going to drive then behind her back there that Simmons especially with that basketball is it truly is there's a reason she's at the point that's why she runs it and she gets the ball went down the game why she drives the bus for a foul on college Simmons will go to the line.
It's been an interesting game almost two different games same team through the second the first the first quarter is.
So even with the pace that this game started out, we needed 14, 14.
Then in the second quarter, Taylor County turned up the volume with their only defensive really denied Derrick Henry lot of things they like to do.
And then in the third quarter, Turner County did something.
All of a sudden shot clock is out.
So that's what the pause is for the clock, which lets you know how much time left.
Yeah, with the top of the basket, this one works, but this one doesn't.
The one on the right works and the one on the left doesn't.
And maybe they're explaining that now to the coaches.
There you see that clock is out for minute 26 remaining in the officials that got it all sorted out and everybody's okay with it.
And Simmons will go to the line.
Good.
12 points.
One for Simmons.
She's had a good day at the office.
Second one good.
She felt good.
Basketball really is Yancey the player she is Yancey up and no good how far back on their end reaching in and foul play That's Daniel Goodnight I think she's got five effects Daniels left nine.
She's got five for that 419 foul.
This has not been a ragged basketball game.
This has been a good no, it's been a really good when have been a really good ball game.
But like you said, we had some ebbs and flows on both sides.
There's that second quarter that Taylor County was able to put together as just a mountain to climb for this tourney kind of team to climb.
Boy, you got to appreciate the way they climb back into this thing that even though the lead is ten, it was 20 at one time.
It was.
And they go back and they get it back down to what, seven, I think 1.77.
Yes.
Office across the timeline makes the answer going to go to your office.
He's going to drive and put it up in Russell in a foul blocking foul and foul towns spiraled out of the game.
Mario Towns has fouled out at eight points 9.8 rebounds.
Had a good game.
Coach Trautman was very honest.
You know, it didn't bother him.
He could go very deep on his bench.
He had some people who could play offers.
Would the first of two and then next one.
She is really good at the free throw line.
Eight out of 11 of the free throw line.
We got a whistle.
A time out there were having trouble.
Get the ball on our board.
Kind of counting how to call timeout.
Let's take a look at what happened in region for a Taylor County unbeaten 30 and oh Julie are a really good basketball team Hopkinsville Greenville Marion County Central Sligh County Brookstone seat and Patel a locked in and Taylor County has just they just mowed it through their 16 and 30 and oh and unless the bottom falls out of everything here yeah they're going to they're going to they're going to claim a championship here with 104 left.
One is 08.1.
We may be a little early excuse me there.
Eight point game, eight point.
Got a minute and four for one thing, it really you know what they decide this team is not able to do is just convert the three point shot.
They haven't even attempted finish because it's so out of what they do.
Even in a situation like this where you would think a team can at least try a couple of they haven't done it.
They really haven't abandoned what has gotten into this point all season long.
And Yancey has just been really beat up all day long.
She's been going inside into traffic and in a difficult situation since colleague on a foul Simmons and she's not real thrilled with those he's not happy about this but it's that time of the game and that's going to have to that's going to happen.
Yep that's not the one you want to send to the line, though.
You know, Ms.. Simmons can do it.
All right.
Take a look at excellent shot of the Turner County coach here.
Yeah, Still instructing.
She's still working.
She's still working it.
Simmons Five out of eight or that would be six of nine now.
And the way they played that second half, they could have just gotten a few things going that way in that second quarter.
It'll leave you to wonder what the outcome could be in the second quarter.
Cleveland, the difference in this game, second one up coming good.
Turner County was outscored 27 to 10 really good at the free throw line shot is up no good Daniels No good.
DANIELS And another firm foul down under the basket.
You want to make sure that clock stops Kierra Gibson and go to the line.
Less than a minute to go now.
Tony is going to come back in here, as is Burwell Gibson at the line.
No, I've often wondered why that happens that.
But it looked right like it was going.
It is a look back.
I know.
Yeah.
That's what we call the shooter's touch.
There.
The ante to Cody.
You got to grab one some time.
And they did yet another foul.
Five fouls on green.
Michael Green leave the scene of the action 11 point Turner County lead with 44 seconds left Yancey Boy Yancey he's had a good day at the office 28 points and she's and 14 rebounds and but only two points here in the fourth quarter.
They have really worked on her rebound Turner down here and fought for and Tyler kind of going to come out of there with it Simmons going to come out of there with whistle and a foul that's on Yancey up lady her fourth these two girls team up to be commended Sam to be commended and you might want to pencil them in for next year because you're leaders in the team or a lot of 11th graders.
Yeah you don't have a lot of seniors.
I think Taylor has got one senior and another senior coming off the bench and that's about it.
That's it.
And Turner's pretty much in the same situation.
Too much.
The same Simmons shooting good traffic from there Whitehead triggers it in and that Yancey and Turner counter is going to make some substitutions here with 37 more time left.
The wait is over.
Mr. Selfridge is back with an all new season one Jeremy retirement is star as Mr. Statler Letterman's retail King premiering March 29.
You can catch all new Mr. Selfridge episode Sunday night at nine.
Can't wait until then.
Don't miss our replay marathon of season two beginning March 22nd at 2 p.m. Mr. Selfridge, Taylor County leading Calhoun County and Greenville.
Coming up for the boys class single, a public final.
That's coming up next.
Fans for their game of fouling in here, too.
This place is getting back.
This is what I like about Make It Right.
I love it.
Really is intimate Setting you right up on the floor.
Not a bad vantage point anywhere in the building.
And the crowd does help the flow of a basketball game when the crowd gets into absolutely 13 points.
Simmons nine out of 12 free throws, 18 points.
Towns five out of eight with 19 points for Tyler County.
Yancey gives it up They're going to shoot the three and we're going to have another towns but towns and wide ahead going to fight over the basketball jump ball yeah no it's going to be Turner long ball yeah office downtown no good this is just out of out of their character They just don't do this They don't do the grown ups and plays just to try to follow up the shot off is yet again no good.
You can go looking for me out of it.
This is total out of what they do.
11.6.
It's Taylor County has done a claimed class single a public girls title for a great crowd in the Macon Coliseum center place area here in the big state.
There are going to be some great basketball games.
If if you're not a basketball fan, just come watch a little of this.
Yeah, it'll get in your system.
Remember, you really will.
You see what's so special about this game here?
The talent that we have from one end of the state to the other, the other coaches that have worked for The players that have worked so hard in the communities you've got can really get behind and make this happen.
It makes it the same somewhere you want to be.
So wherever you are around the stadium should make it today and make it tomorrow.
Make it Saturday.
Make your way to make an exception to this action.
It is one of the greatest meetings of the year.
It's great to go.
It's part of the march to Macon and it's really just a lot of fun.
It really is quite an atmosphere.
Towns to trigger it in and is to Smith Smith going to get him across the time line, pull up and get it across the time line to Mathis and a lot of things going around obviously Taylor County is going to win the girls class, a public championship, a great effort by both basketball teams.
Taylor County Lady Vikings are the class single single-A public state champion, and the celebration is on even Coach Trout.
Let's let it out a little bit.
Right?
Right.
You think he's happy now?
He wasn't going to let it out too soon.
No, no, he was not.
He was not.
Final score, Taylor County, 67, Turner 54.
Taylor County, the new champion to go.
It's been a dandy.
We couldn't ask for any more.
Taylor County going to finish the year 31 and Turner County going to finish the year 28 and three.
And what a way to start this week.
What a way to start the championship celebration here in Macon with a classic finish.
Coach Trautman told me before the game he had a little trouble sleeping last night, you know, before going into this big championship game.
You forget he's been here many times before, 36 years.
He's been coaching there, but there he is with the championship in it.
Mark Harmon is right there beside him right now.
Yes, he is.
Mark Harmon ready to present the trophy to the Taylor County Vikings.
Time now to present the championship trophy to the girls single-A private school state championship.
And for that, I turn the microphone over to the executive director of the GHC, Mr. Gary Philip.
Coach Trautman, on behalf of the entire Georgia High School Association and all the schools you represent, we want to offer congratulations to you on this state championship and our partner, Farm Bureau helping us with the awards and trophies today.
Congratulations to Taylor County High School coach.
Congratulations.
This is an epic day because this is number 11 for Taylor County, the most ever, most ever.
I just want to say I'm so proud of these young ladies.
This is a group that has worked so hard but is I just want to thank all our Taylor County fans.
We couldn't do this without you.
They did a terrific job.
I talk to a couple of your players.
Kelsey talks a little bit about what this means to you to win this state championship.
They're just awesome.
You know, I'm doing I got another year to go it and I just got it my junior year.
I'm so proud of having oh, well, you know, a sister here is a senior.
What does this mean to you?
To be a senior and take home the championship trophy is feel great and, explainable, worth and even displayed by us.
Well, listen, coach, one last time for all your fans out there and Viking land, I mean number 11, that is historic.
That is epic that is fantastic.
When they go back is the pride of Butler, Georgia.
Congratulations on the lady Vikings number 11 into the trophy case.
Congratulations.
And now let's send it over to Grace Olsen with our tailgate party.
Thanks Mark the first game of the GHC state championship games is in the books.
That was Taylor County with the 67 to 54 win over Turner County for the girls single-A public state championship game.
But we're just getting started.
It's like Christmas here.
But GPB Sports, the high school basketball state championship game.
Debbie's tailgate party starts now and and welcome to the GPB sports tailgate party.
We're on the air with you all day from the Macon Cineplex bringing you every rebound dunk and block shot here in the JSA basketball state championships.
We're getting ready for game two on day one is the Cougars of Calhoun County, the pride of Addison, Georgia, with a 28 two record and ranked number one take on the Patriots of Greenville High School, looking for their first state title since 1992.
That's all coming your way in.
Those boys single-A public game coming up next on this first day of the championships.
And we've got a lot of action going on online, not just on TV for you.
We have a crew that's gathering photos and interviews and updates, and that's all online, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on Instagram.
And we already have a ton of photos from that first game.
So if you know anyone here at the Macon Cineplex, you go in to Facebook and make sure you tag them, because we love to see everybody interact on those photos and talk about the game.
So we've got so much flooded for you there on social media.
Also, check out keyboard slash sports if you need to walk away from your TV because the games are streaming live online.
So we've got so much going on there.
And now I've got Mark Harmon joining me here.
And Mark, there is so much fun action in that game.
If it really got heated down and got down to the wire there in the final quarter, it really did.
And we've got a couple of the stars of the game coming up this way.
There's a championship trophy in the game ball.
I can see that.
But, you know, over the next three days, we're going to be showing a lot of boys and girls basketball championships here at Macon.
And it's high school Sports is such a big part of the life of high school of people in the state of Georgia.
Greenville, of course, is a hotbed high school sports.
And John Nelson has a very emotional story about a former Greenville head football coach in his family who is overcoming many challenges in living their lives for a much higher purpose.
Former Greenville High 80 and football coach Jeremy Williams is part of one of the most loving environments you'll see.
High school sweetheart for a soul mate son who wants to be Harry Dog and an equestrian for a daughter.
Jeremy's wife, Jennifer, knew he was the one.
So I would go to the game and I'd be looking for him.
And I remember the first time I went, I didn't know what position he played in.
So I'm looking for him and I'm like, He's got to be on this team.
And then right about that time, like the the hitter hit the ball straight up in the air and Jeremy threw his mask off and caught the ball.
And I remember going like, Oh.
Jeremy's in his sixth year of having Lou Gehrig's disease.
He can't move, breathe on his own or take in solid food.
But his speech still comes from the heart and an unwavering soul that has eyes that move faster than a lot of us think.
Even if it's through a computer.
He is not done coaching.
Just ask him, Do a lot of speaking events and that gives me worth.
So yeah, we get day to day.
Oh, we did.
And if anyone can be Harry doggedly Jake's spine a bit, but it hasn't slowed him down and it won't always want to think of himself as a message for others.
Jeremy has gone through all this with a five letter word alongside faith, and it will always be there.
Jesus Christ gives me the strength and he couldn't give it to you as well.
Jennifer has already battled a round of breast cancer herself and the love is never ending inside Pine Mountain Valley home.
But it is work, hard work and a lesson for all of us.
We've had our challenges and and this you should be this should be a life moment.
And this thing is to be a caregiving my way, you know.
So but it's definitely something that, you know, you just figure out as time goes on.
But but love is the foundation and love is the foundation.
And that's why you keep striving to have a better relationship.
Now, Jeremy couldn't make it to the game here, but the family is watching this game as Greenville goes for their third state championship, come up against Crawford County in just a little bit.
And we want to thank Jon Nelson and of course, to Jeremy and his family for letting us come and visit him.
It's very a very emotional.
