He's coming in, hits a helicopter, slammed jam, the pull up from three.
Watch this guy go the drive, backs it in and gets it.
Hello, everybody, and welcome.
Tommy Farmer along with Larry Smith from the Lincoln Center Flex to bring you great championship basketball.
We've got the Southwest Atlanta Christian Girls basketball team against Holy Innocents, Episcopal.
The interesting thing about this basketball game is southwest Atlanta Christian brings in seven players, Holy Innocents brings in 29 and oh, they're undefeated.
It's still going to be a great basketball game because the five that are on the floor for southwest Atlanta Christian can really play Larry.
Yeah.
Let's talk about these two basketball teams.
Yeah, they're really good.
First off, two of the longer names you will see in the state championship game with the two of them, two very long names.
But aside from that, two outstanding teams right here looking at the key players in this, first for Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, they are here, 25 wins in the season.
Amy Griffin, she's the region player of the year, over a thousand points in her career.
She is the leader of this Warriors team for Holy Innocents and she's just a sophomore.
Erica Cosell is here watching for Holy Innocents.
She is the leader in points and rebounds.
But again, only a sophomore for the Bears Boy, all ready offers from some major schools.
Georgia Tech, Baylor.
She was All-State as a freshman, as a sophomore.
Now she's got her school here in the title game.
What do we do as far as keys to the game?
What do you what do you think about that?
Well, we'll get to that in just a moment.
Let's take a look at the starters first for this game.
Holly, in a sense, going to start Kayla Pointer, Chelsea Zoller, Erica Cosell, Lexi Cassell and Shai Blanding.
This the Regions Bank starting lineups and four of the Southwest Atlanta Christian lawyers.
We've got Marcie to Daniels, Tonya Butler, Commissioner Walker, Amy Griffin and Dominique Banks.
A powerful starting lineup for the Warriors here.
Yeah, certainly is.
And in fact, you look at both these teams, both very young teams.
Let's look at the keys to the game as we talked about a moment ago.
Tommy, first things first for Sackett, no fouls.
As you mentioned, only seven players on this team so you can't afford foul trouble.
And Coach talked about this week.
Coach Jackie Collins said, hey, we had an issue where we have had to play with fewer than five players also rely on your star Amy Griffin Game management very important for them.
You got to rely on your star player.
Griffin If you're Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy on the other side for Holy Innocents key for them control the tempo.
So far in the tournament, you're winning points, winning games by an average of 30 points per game.
That's very important.
And let history repeat itself.
You're 29 and all one of those wins was over Southwest Atlanta.
Christian, No one know your opponent, know who you are?
No.
What you have to do and get a victory and a state championship.
Today Southwest Atlanta Christian comes into the game with a record of 26 and five averaging 60 points a game.
They're shooting 62% from the free throw line, wholly innocent, 61 points per game and a surprising 57% free throw average, which was kind of surprising if it's depth that's going to be holy innocents, if it's tenacity and holding on for dear life, it's going to be southwest Atlanta.
Christian.
Yeah.
Tony Watkins, we talked with him earlier and he said, listen, you know what?
We're just going to go in and play our game, do what we have to do today.
He's really excited to be here for the other side of southwest Atlanta.
Christian again mentioning and Jackie and Jackie Cohen, the coach and what a great job she has done.
Talk about game management and she admitted we'll talk about this during the game here.
This is new for her.
She's never had a situation.
She had this few players even scrimmaging is is an issue.
We'll talk more about that here as the game progresses.
And also, we need to point out that there have been those cases where three have filed out of these seven and they've had to play with four.
Yeah, yeah, they have done that this year already.
So it's going to be interesting to see will we be holding our breath for them?
Exactly.
They might just sag back in that zone, haven't they?
That's right.
The officials for today, Roy Lee HUNNICUTT, Nancy Story and Joe Carter.
And we are almost ready for tipoff There is the horn to get us underway.
Nice to have you along on this Saturday morning.
We have got a day and night full of championship basketball, all holy innocents in the Wide and Southwest Atlanta, Christian in the Burgundy, in the darker uniform, very similar to our school colors.
For both of these two, I'm glad they've got opposite home and away uniforms tip is control to sack as we go in for court three point shot early.
Well welcome to the making center looks so much for settling in off and running and here comes holy innocents in full court down in the corner.
Let's fire from there.
No good rebound comes out to southwest Atlanta Christian on the drive and through the back door and good full court pressure from south west Atlanta's Christian Holy Innocents same at mid court now in for court driving the lane down Main street rejected southwest Atlanta Christian the other way two on two and a toss away going out of the end line and we're off to a fast and furious start so much Larry for a subtle start to settle in.
Yeah we've been using that haven't we?
Listen to this.
The first basket here by Southwest Atlanta.
This one nice move right here by Daniels putting up for the three.
Nice for him on that one.
You go back to live action in a turnover here under the basket and it's holy innocents coming down trying to get their first basket of the game Tommy Southwest Atlanta Christian up by five early on holy innocents going to slow it down a little bit and Southwest Gladiators going to get back in that two three zone defense here Holy innocents driving the no good batted away and a tumbled down there as Chelsea Zoller took the shot and fell out of bounds Nice block that time good defense on that zone hard to penetrate there when Tom hits Dominique Banks He's a six foot three edge freshman in there.
What a great future she has triggered in traffic in the land, A lot of it in a jump ball.
And the ball goes to southwest Atlanta.
Christian heading the other way.
Conservation's first minute and ten, 15 seconds here have a high priority to play defense on one end.
Absolutely.
Oh, they're saying it's Holy innocents ball again.
Yeah, they changed it.
So obviously I didn't catch that early on in full court shots from three point land and good get that one to Kayla Pointer pull the trigger on that one five 2 to 3 ball the other way but no good high to clear it out for four out of bounds New three pointer here up by pointer good Yes pointer She's that young player I've discovered through doing these games youth really does not matter I mean if if you're suited up generally you can play jumper up batted away rejected Zeller going to reset top of the key driving up no good rebound follow up is good nice follow by Cassel and Southwest Atlanta Christian losing control of the ball holy innocents with the steal going to go the other way Zollner going to drive and fire and get fouled in traffic foul is going to be called on Marquita Daniels That's going to be her first team.
Foul number one as well.
553 left in the first quarter and a tie ballgame at five.
Zoller at the line bam No good short Got to settle in.
Good.
Look here at Jackie Cowan.
She talked about the length this team has banks long it's six three.
Griffin is tall, very athletic.
They've won eight in the last 19 games Second shot up and good Holy Innocents comes in 29 and oh seven shots taken, three shots blocked.
Top of the key downtown three no good up rebound comes out holy innocents in traffic then a clear it out to Zoller Cassel and Zoller working and back court and for nice left handed shot by Porter Holy smokes what a nice move and danger zone and behind the back board whistle and a foul Let's watch this one down the lane.
Yeah.
This was outstanding.
Nice move right here.
Watch.
You're getting banks out of position.
Banks trying to defender doesn't get her hands up And again that defense you want to make sure you get a hand in the face of the shooter didn't do that pointer only a freshman and she's just the latest of a lot of really good young underclassmen we've seen here.
And to your point, Tommy, you mentioned a moment ago, coaches will tell you you get to the end of the season and in a tournament in a championship game, your freshmen have played all season long.
They're no longer freshmen.
You're exactly right.
Hired Butler.
That's a run for holy innocents until those free throws.
Now 8 to 5.
Zeller going to pull the trigger again in and out No good Southwest Atlanta Christian going to clear it out of there.
We're going to get a whistle and a foul on Lexie Cosell.
8 to 5 Holy Innocents was on an eight point run.
There.
Lexi Cosell.
We mentioned Eric at the top.
That's awful.
Lexi, her older sister, has signed to play at Murray State next year in the Ohio Valley Conference.
How about their men's final tonight, by the way?
Butler down on the low post going to jump shoot softly.
Nice shot That's Griffin.
That's her first nursing.
Yeah breaks that angel run yeah Zeller through the back door Oh nice ball movement That's as good as it gets.
That's the way you do it now that was started by the good vision from the freshman point of residence at the top of the key.
Watch this.
Here in the backcourt, that's a one handed pass by a freshman right on the money.
Hey, like that, huh?
Through the back door left that one.
Great pass.
Perfect position.
That was it.
Call play.
I promise you get a big smile on their face.
Free throw is good.
Holy innocence.
Really?
After the first three has now really been rolling.
Holy Innocents leads that Eagle 11 to 7 Southwest Atlanta Christian going to get full court pressure in four court almost stolen away and lost and picked up and lost.
Nobody going to lose another monitor.
Oh, that was close.
Kevin almost jumped out of his seat to my left over here.
But yeah, this is the danger zone.
The danger zone?
This monitor has been in place yesterday.
If you're watching.
Exactly.
And Kevin is to my left here, He almost flipped out of his chair.
Long three.
No good.
No.
And out of bounds here.
Watching that game yesterday, that Wesleyan player Lauren Dooley is going to play softball at Georgia next year.
Came in and knocked out this monitor.
But she was quick to apologize at the bottom.
Okay.
That's the first thing she said.
She said, I'm so sorry.
And the things you said, are you okay?
And she said, Yes, sir, I'm from heights.
Oh, goodness.
Manners will take you along.
Well, she was very, very nice.
Yes, sir.
Good kid.
Yes.
Holy innocents in four Ford Double team driving corner.
Zoller.
No.
Good.
Right out.
Holy Innocents down.
Baseline up Fan No Good.
Follow Good.
Cosell went to work on the boards.
13 to 7 Holy Innocents has answered the challenge from Southwest Atlanta.
Christian good job and rebounding to 13 to 2 run driving southwest Atlanta Christian good nice the runner there Butler with a bucket at the 330 mark here in the first quarter.
You've just joined us Holy innocents in white Southwest Atlanta Christians in the burgundy in the dark uniform baseline jumper high air ball.
That one brings rain follow up no good whistle And the foul Zoller will trigger it from three land.
I'm telling you she gives it There's no doubt about height there's no line drive shots So I just wonder if there is at some point a horror shot in her backyard.
There's a limb hanging over something that you've got to get over, had to be and be 310 left in the first quarter.
Holy Innocents on a good run here.
Holy Innocents, 13 Southwest, Atlanta, Christian, nine.
We'll be back with more after this.
Yeah.
Welcome back to the Making Coliseum, Holy Innocents, currently leading Southwest Atlanta, 11 to 9 now a factor we're going to say see play a key role in this game today is the depth of Southwest Atlanta Christian's roster.
Over there you can see Jack, Coach Jackie Cowan only has seven girls on her bench, might I add.
One of those girls was a former cheerleader she recruited to play from her to play for her team.
So not much depth there.
She does have a lot of talent, though, but stamina is going to be a key factor in this game.
They're going to have to limit the foul trouble.
Tommie Grace, Holy Innocents, a 6 to 1 margin off of rebounds, you know, seven oh, also on Second chance points for Holy Innocents.
Meanwhile, we look at selfless Atlanta Christian and to grace this going they led in the semifinals against Saint Francis by 13 points in the first half but lost that lead had a rally from a deficit to get the win.
So stamina very, very important four days off since that game on Monday up and Kennesaw State game management more.
It is really really important very southwest Atlanta Christian Waters 57% percent from the field goal and 33% for holy innocents thus far free throw no good just now, two out of four at the free throw line.
Erica Gazelle, good looking young player, 14 points, seven rebounds a game again just a sophomore and get the second one Got the good shooter's roll on the second minute substitution new number into the game Cassel is going to go out and a new number in the game Rachel Morton's for Holy Innocents did not give up one inch of height when they brought her in off the bench.
That's right up and no good down hard 80 Brooklyn other way Holy Innocents white opened and in speaking of Rachel Morton welcome to the game Nice way to begin 16 to 9 now Holy innocents three ball up no good Martin on the rebound Holy Innocents on the run up ahead The look down baseline up no good stolen away Southwest Atlanta Christian on the run in the fourth quarter no pull up driving to the basket no good tip out to holy innocents the golden bears fighting for the ball and going to come up with it in back court and head the other way.
The 215 mark of the first quarter.
Here's Zoller left side.
Cydney Long It is long.
Look, she's got to get it to corner.
He's got to go bang, no good.
Southwest Atlanta Christian got to come out of there with it.
Mark Key to Daniels stopping, looking, waiting for traffic to pass and going to reset.
Butler at the top of the key and she had Griffin open in the corner.
Didn't see her pull the ball out instead.
Danger zone pulling the ball down.
Long three.
Holy smokes from downtown Daniel That's an NBA three It is.
It's her second three of the game.
She's keeping them in the ballgame right now.
She sure is Corner.
Let's ride down in the corner to Millard and we'll go back down in the corner yet again, slowing it down.
Holy innocence.
Pressure now from southwest Atlanta.
Christian Porter driving, laying it out.
Well, no good whistle and a foul.
I can see why Coach was talking so much praise about pointer.
Here's that last basket right now by Daniels.
It's a nice job the older holiness is doing a nice job on the on Griffin and denying her the ball She's just the one basket so far and not a lot of touches but able there to get the ball draw the defense to her all eyes watching her Daniels came around the screen hits a three pointer nice play corner misses the first of two Gasol going to get a rest that's Lexie Gasol She has a sister Erica Gasol corner going to miss them both and Southwest Atlanta Christian going to come out of there with it.
Coach Callen has done an excellent job of handling seven players.
I can't imagine that up and no good Rebound comes out to Holy Innocents in a hurry corner dribbling left now Right goes right back.
Top of the key resets looking downtown again and falls off the rim.
And that good soft ball off the rim Whistle more action down under and Griffin with a foul in the corner Going to get a break here She's the last one to be substituted in four I think the Jones and holy innocents going to put it back in play from the baseline 37 seconds left in the quarter.
Long shot again from downtown.
No good fadeaway no good rebound comes out to southwest Atlanta Christian and there's going to be a whistle and another foul headed the other way.
Cosell first foul on her team.
Final number three now scoreboards broken here in the end as every player fouling out.
Here we go.
That finally chased her first and we're relieved to hear that sack across midcourt thought double teamed in trouble now looking shot is up fan no good rebound by out of the way holy innocents comes out of there with it but 19 seconds left going to fall down and get the ball in back court watch the ten second roll they do get it across the timeline time running out on the quarter shot blocked Southwest first ten and no opportunity for either team to fire it up.
That was great defense there by Griffin.
She went by her flew by the defender but rebounded and got the block and again good defense there to end the quarter.
It's been a heavyweight fight which is why we thought we'd see sack up first Holy Innocents answers.
And it's been a case of knocking on the door on the other team answering 16 to 12 and we've played one more this.
But tell you I was out of town we played One and Holy Innocents, Golden Bear, 16, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy all year 12 GPB Sports is all over social media.

I think it's like somebody in there.
There's a picture of you and me on there, isn't it?
Lisa should be.
I have no idea.
I hope so.
Let's go to Grace also.
Sideline Grace.
All right.
I listened a little bit to Coach Jackie Cowan talking to her girls during that last time out.
She's telling him we can't keep giving up these offensive rebounds.
We already gave up four in the first quarter.
That can just not happen.
And when it comes to shooting, they're double tripping, triple teaming us.
We need to square up and then dish.
Do not take careless shots.
Back over to you, Tommy, 16 to 4 Holy Innocents Run was the key Southwest Atlanta Christian got off to a great start and then Holy Hansen.
It really answered the bell they did, looking at this right now, Coach Cowan be really upset if she knew.
Officially eight offensive rebounds already in the first quarter by Holy Innocents according to the box score.
Yeah, maybe nobody's telling her that on the bench over there.
You got a problem right now, Sack on top of the key.
Got a drive down in traffic up and good nice smooth move by Amy Griffin down in traffic to cut it to two in four court corner space looking she is as good a point guard as we have seen in in basketball championship performances so far as she has good manager of the game batted away by southwest Atlanta Christian long pass up and good Walker came through the front door nobody was back to welcome across the time line long past Zoller no good the rebound fought for back to Zoller off the glass too high too hard and southwest Atlanta Christian going to come out of there with it.
Daniels across the time line looking, trying to make a move down the lane and cannot hold the innocence back in that it looks like a212 or a two, three.
I'm not sure they may be manning up on one.
I think it's on Daniels.
They are.
And Daniels or Griffin, rather, from the baseline.
Nice play here again the block here and we talked to the beginning.
You need to trust Amy Griffin She's your star doing it all great defense sees the runner down the court Perfect pass get it to tie ballgame they've got to get more out of Griffin in this game if they're going to try to get this championship Holy innocence has missed their last eight shot seven home run by a southwest Atlanta Christian.
We've got a new game at 16 corner across the timeline trying to go in can't going to go right side drive down the lane left handed shot up and good kind of hung on the rim a little bit there before Blanding and finally foul end 555 mark 1816 Holy innocent shot is up and no good saved by holy innocents on the run Driving corner in traffic pulls up stops loses passes back to Cassel got to go and reset everything is Blanding Blanding top of the key now double dribble pulled it up hesitation you could see it coming well hesitation one defensive adjustment I've noticed here in the second quarter as they've been leading in the corner over there and number 13 long has been wide open all those threes and they're now shot shading over to that side And to try to cover that and avoid those three point shots, give you those open three point shots.
None has gone in right now, but it's just a matter of time.
GRIFFIN driving and going to pass off and whistle and a foul.
That's the second hole.
Anderson's turnover which gave southwest Atlanta Christian the ball Yeah I'm sorry not long Zeller number 21 launching those three pointers in the corner Inbounds pass comes for Griffin double team man she's got to moves shot is up no good partially a block holy innocents going to come out of there with it on the run goes Blanding left the double team Fox for the ball Zeller a thunder man on the way five Andy Griffith in the third blocked by Griffin not not a friendly welcome down there Hello Get out of here Yeah that's a wow that's elevation She's really impressive considering good player Blanding to trigger it in long shot My my my Sidney Long with the long shot You waited all morning to say that?
Yes, I did.
I've been waiting on that one.
21 to 16.
Good run by holy innocence here Southwest Atlanta Christian.
Can they answer?
No, not yet.
Follow up.
No.
Good Griffin.
Way outside.
Way outside.
And double and triple Team.
She's having to work hard to find some territory to be able to move Yeah Tommy they've got open shooters in the corner missing right here.
That's the thing.
If Griffin's double team, somebody open somewhere, you got to find the open man and woman.
Griffin looking driving loses it the turnover Southwest to Atlanta Christian holy innocents corner down the lane up and good by Gasol Erica Gasol with the basket boy She's just got a nice soft touch I would like to find out what's going to go on and this time out with the coach from southwest Atlanta Christian this one's not going to be fun.
Yeah she's not happy at all.
And then again, deservedly so.
One more look at this again pointer on them on the break loses the ball but the good luck getting it right to the hands of Erica Gasol Tommy nice roll nice touch.
Two points down under right now seven a run by Holy innocence and they're up 23 to 16 Let's take a road to the championship Look here brought to you by Georgia EMC lighting the way in the playoffs Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy beat Green Forest 7343.
George Walton 48 to 37.
Saint Francis 66 to 61.
And we'll see how that turns out today with Holy Innocents.
Now Holy Innocents Beat Savannah Country Day 8329, Mt.
Herron 7251 and Darlington 46 to 20.
And we'll see how it turns out.
We've got a dandy going now.
23 to 16, a70 Holy Innocents run.
And I'd really like to find out what the coach from southwest Atlanta Christian is really talking about right now, because this couldn't have been a pleasant time out.
No credit for their energy, though.
I really was weak in the first quarter.
You saw them kind of grabbing the ball in the shorts, kind of leaning over a little bit.
But it seems at that time out between the quarters came new life.
How do they now answer this run after the like they answered that one in the first quarter.
Interesting thing.
Holy Innocence has taken 28 shots.
Southwest has blocked six.
Wow.
And Holy Innocents still leads by seven long three attempt, no good.
Not really.
Griffin shot.
It's a couple of times he's attempted a long three pointer and she hasn't been close.
But I understand what she tried to do trying to make things happen as a leader of her team from anywhere on the court.
Yeah.
Off Morton's foot and Southwest Atlanta Christian's going to get it back.
Griffin up bad and no good Rebound by Gasol and Griffin's going to get it back and pass it off and then goes up and no good from the left side That was Walker down under Griffin trying to get out of traffic and pass the ball up and pass the shot up, which kind of surprised me.
There you go.
I thought she was there to take it.
I again, he is trying to get your teammates involved.
You got Coach Cowan.
I am sure that would be the case.
Southwest yet to hit a free throw.
Oh and three right now back to Cowan, the coach of southwest Atlanta Christian.
Very interesting lady Tony Watkins, of course, the coach of Holy Innocents.
Full court pressure now from southwest Atlanta, Christian and Griffin with a steal going to give it up and a good shot and up to Meyer Butler with a bucket across a time line Holy innocents gets it deep corner down in the corner to Zeller no good that was not Zeller I think that was long with the long shot again in fourth court No good three shot no good Griffin puts it up and in here's corner double teamed in for of course double team yet again tries to go to Morton baseline and throws it away Savannah a rather southwest Atlanta Christian really working hard on defense the pressure is really getting to them good long hands right here fifth turnover by holy innocents this quarter and back to back baskets right there.
We wondered out of that timeout how they would answer.
They answered with intensity.
Yes, they have 2320 12. game and they got the ball down by two Griffin turnaround jumper too hard gets the carom up and low Good follow by southwest Atlanta Christian my goodness what a great rebound driving the lane up and good off the glass Nice shot by Tamaya Butler good patience there by Sacker boy they are all over the place on this grass Wow To see once again Thomas has a nice play right here.
Butler goes in, sees a taller defenders inside, uses the backboard.
You don't see that very often.
Nice soft touch.
The reason I like that that's the reason.
You know, if it was just a rim game, they wouldn't use the backboard.
I love to see the players use the backboard.
It's there for a purpose.
Use it.
Yep.
And she did?
Yep.
The 48 year old Southwest now already in the bonus is now a one and one.
A lot of fouls here in the first half intensity corner free throw no good rebound comes out to southwest Atlanta Christian banks with a rebound now in four court Griffin on the give and go no go long four court corner up on and what a nice move Great hands hands yeah you can use both hands normally a lefty but threw it up there right handed Very nice off the backboard I might point out again drive down the lane to short and another turnover by Saka watch corner change hands Great move take what she she's impressive to be a freshman she certainly is corner drive he's got a baseline jumper Tyler no good Gasol with a rebound on the follow up whistle and a foul going to be called on Amy Griffin and got a partial block but too much of the body you got to her second it's a nice move there by the young sophomore Erika Gasol less hesitation get Griffin in the air and she'll shoot a couple to 123 left in the first half.
It has been just as tough and tight as the score would indicate.
GRIFFIN We have to watch and we have to keep a danger.
Watch on that one second.
Foul on Griffin Trouble right here in River City.
That's right.
True.
You don't have many in you got only seven players on the team, a rotation of only six.
So it's important that she stay out of foul trouble.
Yes, it is Daniels in full court Got to slow it down a little bit.
Going to make Holy Innocents come to them and they will with a vengeance.
Double team Daniels looking up and in there no good miss the basket And it was a poorly executed trip down the court for Southwest Atlanta.
You got the double team there.
Somebody has got to be open.
When she found the open person there and Walker Walker couldn't take advantage of it.
Tough sequence for them.
Yes.
Took a lot of time off the clock as well.
Now, holy innocents going to walk it down the floor with 45 seconds left.
And I think they're going to play it for one shot here.
Porter and Zoller are going to play Keep Away and southwest Atlanta Christian not going to offer Porter and Gasol have combined for five out of nine here in the first half.
Yeah freshman at a sophomore southwest Atlanta again content let this go don't draw a foul everybody else on the team four of 21 corner Cosell Zoller long in trouble Cosell no good rebound Griffin and by half well in there they played cautiously both teams ending the half holy in a sense content to go out with a four point lead the southwest Atlanta Christian does not want any more foul trouble in the last minute.
Let's go to Grace here with the sideline, Grace here with Coach Watkins of Holy Innocence.
We talked about the speed that Caleb Pointer can add to the game at this point this year at the state finals appearance.
Talk about the speed of the game so far.
It's a very quick game.
We knew that coming into this, we've got to do a better job, sprint back and in transition because a really fast two and a lot of blocked shots on this end.
The adjustments need to be made about that.
Well, I thought we made the adjustment before the game started.
Yes.
Got to left and get her up in the air and then go right up through her.
Okay.
Thank you so much, Coach.
Good luck.
Back to Tommy.
All right.
Let's go to Mark Harmon.
Mark.
All right, Tommy Polmar, thank you very much.
We're at halftime of the first of six games are going to have for you here live on GPB on championship weekends.
It's the girls private school single-A championships right now, Holy Innocents leading Sacker by four points.
And this is not the time to go get a snack out of the kitchen, because when we come back, we're going to have a check of social media with Rachel's and she will be right back.
Plus, we're going to have all your first half highlights.
That is all coming up live from Make It right here on GPB.

Welcome to the Macon Coliseum to the GHC Boys and Girls State Championship basketball tournament brought to you live throughout of the state of Georgia on TV.

You know the WHO fans, this is like Christmas in March because we've got six big games coming up.
And I mean, one game has just been better than the other.
Well, and they call it March Madness for a reason, right?
I mean, I think that extends to high school.
Right.
Well, call it making March Madness perfect.
I like that.
Sounds good.
All right.
Well, listen, we're getting ready for the second half of our first game of the day.
We've got six on tap.
It is the girls private school single-A state championship game.
Southwest Atlanta, Christian taking on Holy Innocents.
Don't move a muscle.
Tommie Palmer and Larry Smith will have the first half staff and highlights and all the action you can take in the second half.
That's just coming up next on DVD.
Welcome back to the Macon Center.
Plugs Tommy Palmer along with Larry Smith.
Nice to have you along with us today on this Saturday.
First of many games, we'll be playing basketball all day long on GPB As we take a look at the stats on it.
One of the things I think that was surprising is how well Griffin played in the first half with as much pressure.
Yeah, she really is even with the double teaming you see there and on defense to look at that shot right there how she does it all great but she heading up them in the second quarter they brought in the press.
She headed down up, got a couple of quick baskets off, steals one on the other end.
How about the young girl pointer now, Kayla Pointer, what a job she's done.
Seven points in this.
She got an assist as well.
Look at this move right here.
She's only a freshman.
She's outstanding.
And a big reason right now why they've got the lead.
Let's go to Grace.
Elton Grace here with Coach Cowan.
Coach, I've seen you've been preaching to the girls on the sideline about those boards, 18 to 26 on the other side in terms of rebounds, yes, I'm big on challenge today is offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds, period.
So one of the things we're focusing on is making sure we have a position for rebounding because that's a big part of today's game.
Now seven players you've got to work with obviously another part of the game.
How would you assess, assess the girls stamina so far, their level of aggressiveness, It's the same as it's been all year.
We say that's not an issue.
It's never been an issue.
But we've got to do is play our game, do the things we know to do and execute according to our plan.
And once we do that, we're going to be good.
All right.
Well, best of luck, this affliction.
Back over to Tommy.
Thanks, Grace.
Let's take a look now at the first half stats.
Georgia Farm Bureau presents our halftime stats field goals.
Ten out of 32 for Holy Innocents in the lead Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, ten out of 29, three point field goals, three out of eight for a sack, a two out of 13 for Holy Innocents free throws one out of four.
And there was a difference in the game.
That would be it.
Because Holy Innocents is five out of ten, even though they're shooting it 50%, 18 rebounds, wins for sack, 26 for Holy Innocents and the turnovers are even at six apiece.
One of the number six owls is on the board right there.
Tommy is 11 rebounds for Holy Innocents now two of 13 shooting also from the arc.
I'd like to see them move the ball around and get more penetration.
I think Pointer is an outstanding point guard.
Let her do her thing, try to penetrate a little bit, get it to one of the Gazelle girls and see if they can generate some offense That way.
Holy innocence.
One block six blocks by southwest Atlanta Christian amazing Griffin a key component in this ballgame she's got two fouls and we're going to watch that closely in full court Holy innocents Zollars gets it to Cassel top of the key lost it almost in to back court but was touched by a sack of holy innocents to guard offense corner and Blandings landing going to drive in traffic and it's traveling I'm not ever going to call kicking the ball with Griffin I did too I guess the traveling happened first.
Maybe a little bit of a break there for southwest Atlanta, then fatigue will not be an issue.
We understand that's what she says, what she tells her team, I guess.
But her voice may be a problem, right?
She seems as if she's losing her voice just a bit.
Saka driving down the lane, nothing there batted away.
Butler and Gasol blocks it away.
Erica Gasol, the sophomore great defense here.
We talked about how many lot of division one schools looking at her down under and stole on the way by Blanding and now we're going to go back again and start all over again Walker will trigger it and four Saka 707 left in the third quarter shot up and no good Holy innocents got to come out of there with it and corner driving and going to pass up a shot.
Gets it to Blanding now outside Gasol short and on the break Southwest Atlanta Christian out of the way WHISTLE and the foul I believe on Lexie Kissel her second quarter she didn't give up the basket and was bound and determined not to as you can tell on the run there That's right Walker at them on free throws good pick the front of the rim back of the rim and falls softly in 2724 Southwest Atlanta Christian and holiness that's if you've just joined us Southwest Atlanta Christian in the dark uniforms and the white holy innocents undefeated at 29 and of southwest Atlanta Christian at 26 and five and four four stolen away headed the other way three on one break layup up and good It was a nice move right there by Martina Daniels.
She had two teammates on the wing.
Three on one break could have passed it up, but a smart move there.
Get the ball away from the defender.
We got a tie ballgame.
Blanding driving the lane going to lay it up WHISTLE and the foul and I believe this is number three this one doesn't look good for southwest Atlanta Christian twice Daniels again she's looking the whole time decides not to give it up.
Smart decision there doesn't always work out well for you when that happens.
And the coach may be saying pass the ball, but then when you score, they'll say, no, no, no, no.
That was good.
That was good.
You would have thought maybe a block, but no.
Got it.
No charge.
Got a block on Daniels.
And guess who's got to come out with three fouls?
That's tough.
That's tough for them.
Yes, it is.
Marquita Daniels, who is the core of their offense, landing at the line, firing good.
29, 27.
They're going to walk it down the floor now.
Daniels Griffin now on the bench with the three fouls, which is the last thing you wanted to happen 2 minutes into the second half down inside shot is up no good high up off the glass Banks Misses High Purcell and Blanding going to bring it down Blanding down under and they're going to go to work.
Gasol and the other Gasol up no good good work down there by a southwest Atlanta Christian on the boards They're really giving up lots of limb down there five 542 left in the quarter Good work down there.
Gasol and Gasol working both sides of the lane triggered out to Blanding slamming going to go to Zeller Zeller down inside the Gasol out of the way.
Good pressure defense by Saka here Yeah nice job everyone understands the leader is out they're all coming together staying focused and holding in a sense going to work inside.
Zoller There we go to Cassel batted away by southwest Atlanta Christian and the other way we go with Daniels Daniels going to go right side you notice that southwest Atlanta first kind of slowed it down driving up and no good and the rebound by Cassel how to clear it out gets it ahead to Blanding to Zollars honor going for the basket up off the glass no good corner with a follow nice shot by Kayla Bonner up off the glass got the rebound and stuck it back up in in four point lead now for undefeated holy innocents 29 and zero on the year Southwest Atlanta Christian 26 and five pattern by touch this trip down the floor left and right Daniels and Butler down under batted away by Cassel Blanding got the care of Blanding driving lost it Bledsoe and a foul and Daniels on that foul No more look at this laughs Holy innocents basket pointer doing everything right angle right there with the right back up and in outstanding player again just a freshman as Griffin now as we enter the game for southwest Atlanta with those three fouls look at those numbers Tommy Daniels to second chance points yeah Daniels with her second foul Both teams seem to be slowing it down at times and running more patterns, then ripping and roaring down the court long back in the game corner.
Short rebound to banks lost it back up.
Castle's lost again going the other way.
I'm not going to second guess, but I'd rather aim any coach would like to see as well see her hold back and not take that shot they really were working on at that point, trying to get it inside.
We'll talk more about it here at the break.
We're halfway through the third quarter.
Holy Innocents undefeated with a four point lead or when we return, 3127 Holy Innocents over southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
Let's go to Grace Hilton.
Grace, Thank you.
Amy Griffin.
Been quite a presence on the court today.
She and coach Jackie Cowan, their relationship was strengthened by a trick trip they took this past summer to Africa.
We've got a couple photos we're going to show you there with a tiger, some kind of lion.
They took a trip to help mentor girls in academics and basketball in Africa.
This program, they actually come and select coaches and players.
They wanted to participate.
So Coach Cowan was selected and she and Amy both took the trip last summer.
And they keep track of these girls.
And actually once Amy to come back to the program, once she's in college and continue mentoring these girls in basketball and academics.
Tommy Yes, that was a lion and that was a shot that was taken.
They did get to see, see all of the relevant African animals there.
So what a great trip.
What had to be an inspiration.
According to Coach Jackie, she she said it was just life changing.
Yeah.
I mean, even I think she's admitted she thinks she got as much out of it as as Amy Griffin as Amy did.
Yes.
Yes, definitely.
Great experience.
Yes, indeed.
You know, right now, Southwest Atlanta Christian, their work on improving is 32% shooting.
That poor shooting right now as we take him out of the game, we'll see if Griffin can change that.
Griffin going to face up downtown three no good kicked out of bounds and there was some disagreement from the other side.
I believe southwest Atlanta Christian is going to trigger it in.
Yes.
Daniels in shot is up and good.
Oh, my.
Walker just kind of threw it up there That went in Blanding too long, driving, almost lost it to Gasol on the corner and trying to drive with pressure banks arms in the air up no good whistle and a foul foul is going to be called on Butler I think we're reaching over the back now one more look at it here on the defense if they got it on banks 23 and it's her second that's the second time that happened The last time it happened in the first half, she was knocked down.
The shooter was it didn't they didn't call it.
And but that time they got it.
You can't go out to the shooter and knock her name.
Sidney Long at the line first free throws good Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy seven blocks forcing Holy Innocents into taking three.
They're two out of 15.
They're good pressure defense, but I have seen more of them trying to get an inside margin in the KSL Sisters.
That shot was wide open.
I mean, the defense came to it.
You take it and evens gives you no problem with that.
And now you get some free throws along with the long shot and the foul and will get three at the line.
Third shot up coming in.
Good.
Two out of three.
Griffin got a trigger at the end.
Daniel to across the time line I'm going to go right side to Butler Butler drives the lane get to the back talking and backed it up and in things banks it is there you go That was a nice shot nice execution to Blanding in full court down on the corner too long the looking going to go left in traffic in trouble going to go outside the corner Porter top of the key going to go left side gets a screen, tries to drive good high up off the glass carom comes down to Griffin and a head and out of outs go the other way.
Holy innocence Griffin trying to make something happen right there had another trailer on the other side of the court that she didn't see the defender blocked her vision.
It's a good effort.
Try to get the ball down, court just a little high.
Southwest Atlanta Christian good pressure Defense Blanding looking behind driving and throwing it up No good banks comes out of there with it Got to go right side to Daniels Daniels driving the land pull up jumper.
No good comes off the front of the rim corner the other way.
Fast and furious here in the third quarter tries to go up and a loved one Griffin did she turned around and put her back to her not to be called for a blocking foul.
Yeah yeah I thought that was a good move third foul going to be called Butler that's a concern now though that's three on Griffin three on Butler Yeah again you only have you only play six players but you're right that was a smart play but to your point by Griffin did not pick up that fourth foul she knows she has to stay in the game actually turned her back Yeah top corner driving down the lane which I thought was very smart.
The corner fires it up and good three point lead Southwest Atlantic Christian down under to Griffin good up off the glass Didn't look like he was going to have it up but it did.
Corner driving firing over banks.
Good that was all Caleb Pointer right there.
Three point lead.
Let's go the other way.
Sack and forecourt Butler Butler looking inside trying to drive Hit it off at the pass now driving and the ball lost Cassel coming out of there with it Blanding two on to break batted away by Daniels and I'm surprised Daniels was in or out of Griffin was in so much heavy traffic Yeah yeah I thought the same thing I mean she's going on my boy.
You better be careful.
Get away from here.
Get away from there.
Yeah.
Turn out okay for him.
That could have been ugly.
Yeah.
Bully innocence long.
Got to trigger it in from the end line.
Long get to that.
Look, Gasol back the long driving the lane Got to put it up Bang off the glass No good Morton fighting for the ball with Gasol traffic going to come out of there Butler with Sacko across the court up and no good shot taken by Walker Yeah right He loves to call airball ball back Yeah that's it tough tough game out here come on Yeah tough crowd.
Butler and Griffin with three quick 22nd time out here by Southwest Academy as coach Cowan wants to talk about this in the final minute nine here in the third quarter Tommy Wright give credit to both sides with some really nice ball handling.
You know we've seen what Pointer can do for Holy Innocents, but for Southwest Academy, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, I should say, we've seen Butler do the same thing.
One of our signature programs on GPB is Georgia Travel Player.
This season, the Traveler crew takes you to some scenic getaways, embark on a few harsh adventures, and, of course, dive into some of the best restaurants at the beach.
Stay all that and much, much more.
Don't miss Georgia Traveler on the great GPB Holy Innocents hasn't won a state championship since 1999, as you mentioned, undefeated coming in and southwest Atlanta Christian may have only they maybe small, only six players.
I think Coach Cowan wanted to press there.
She's not happy with this defense, but they whenever they talked about coming out of the timeout, they didn't do she's not very happy right now Porter down under the Morton up and good then through the back door Rachel Morton with a nice back up basket down at the back door under a minute to play here 45 seconds left in the quarter Southwest Atlanta Christian got to set it up, I would imagine for the last shot.
Daniels getting pressure from long and going to go right down Main Street and Miss batted away jump ball Holy innocents ball on the possession arrow substitution for holy innocents Zoll are going to come back in and that Miller going to go out missing a moment ago Southwest Atlanta Christian the Warriors may be small but they're mighty only six players but they're playing holy in this is tough seven or seven players with six in the rotation that they that they play Yeah Walker second foul on Walker and Zeller two pointer five point lead holy innocents corner gets the screen fires no good Griffin comes out of there with it going to get it back to Butler he'll bring it across the time line 5 seconds left Butler trying to drive and stolen away by porter fires no good off the backboard.
Fast and furious.
We are down the cases 3833 Holy innocents not to fit him with a five point lead yet set for that fourth quarter action Fast and furious.
Coming up next on GPB con, welcome back to the Making Coliseum Holy Innocents currently leading southwest Atlanta Christian 38 to 33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Now fourth quarter play in a state title game.
This is when the efforts of practice can really come into play on the holy and it's inside, Coach said.
Coming into this game they need to get be physical and get back on defense the way that he runs his practices.
He brings in the J.V.
boys players to play with the girls, to amp up their aggressiveness, amp up the speed of the game.
Now on the Southwest Atlanta Christian side, Coach Cowan, she had seven girls to deal with.
Not much scrimmage scrimmaging you can do with seven girls.
So she brings in anyone she can find that knows the game of basketball.
Even one of her assistant coaches, the six one current rec former rec league player, she brought in to play the game with her girls.
She actually just recently got pregnant, so she's out.
But clearly Coach Cowan has made do with what she's got and stitched together a good plan to get to the state title game with her practices.
Tommy Hey you.
You want to practice some basketball?
Hey, Innovative, wouldn't you say?
That's right.
That's probably why they're here.
Yeah, whatever it takes.
You guys.
Southwest Atlanta.
Kirsten, good update on that.
Great.
3833 Griffin inside up batted away by Cassel Griffin again batted away by the other Cassel on the other side Yeah the twin towers there I really think the fourth quarter you're going to see both teams try to go inside more.
Southwest Atlanta Southwest Atlanta Christian's got to go inside to Griffin and get the ball.
She's got to touch the ball every time down the court.
Now on the other side, again, don't settle for three pointers.
Get the ball inside.
You've got a short bench on the other side, the Southwest Atlanta of your Holy innocence.
Force the ball inside.
Make them defend you, make them commit fouls, possibly get to the line and try to again put them in a bad position and if you're for the second or two, missed them both and hit your free throws.
Yeah and out of bounds by Holy innocents corner couldn't Kerala so southwest ladder Kirsten going the other way Savannah why do I keep saying that Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy three of six and field goal attempts Holy Innocents two out of ten.
It's just down the road from me, you know, it's just half.
But I mean, they're nowhere close here.
Yeah, there's Daniels for the three.
That's her third of the game.
She has got 11 points and I think we got a foul on the other side.
Yes.
Zoller Daniels with a three and nice job right here.
She and Butler, very nice ball handlers.
You can see right there, the defender backing away, respecting her dribbling ability and forgetting that she's already hit two three center third tray of the game and it's a two point game Tyler out of bounds Savannah as a southwest Atlanta Christian for the shot up no good ahead WHISTLE and a foul Zeller going to go to the line for holy innocents that's Samuel's third foul SAC has not backed off whatsoever on defense they have nine here's this pass bringing pointer great vision I was really impressed with her play Zeller can't get it to go right there but again Daniels up all up interface to free throws and Zeller hits the first free throws.
Good.
Zoller has taken most of her shots from three point range and got a nice breakaway basket here.
All the innocents by three second shot.
No good banks clears it out back across the time line.
Butler top of the key almost a14 now to Daniels another three banks high to clear it out another no good Gasol clears it out gets it does honor stone on her way down under there Griffith lost it out of bounds for the team but nice respect on both sides and players are knocking players down here to competition.
Everyone wants the same thing good sportsmanship we've seen that on when both teams have done that so far in this game.
The look inside to banks and banks looking at banks is not a great shooter.
It's not a bad idea for her to kick it back out to Daniels three again, Laquita Daniels has heated up from three point land now full court pressure and the crowd really getting into it now.
From soccer, Cosell lost it Griffin two on to break Griffin up and no good follow no good follow no good for the foul Wow They're wearing out that offensive board.
Hey, listen, give the Warriors credit on this right now and what they've done going through.
That was a great effort there by Griffin to get that steal and a create that and a stay with on the offensive boards.
Do not give up and keep at it And you've got a chance now to take the lead here at the free throw line with Amy Griffin doing it all.
Isn't it amazing how the last minute the momentum has just totally the two threes have really changed the momentum, not just the score, but the momentum.
You saw Holy Innocents blink first.
The coach got to call timeout.
He walks the rim out and reload.
I think here.
Free throws are gonna be crucial down the stretch.
Sack 11 out of 19 Holy Innocents three out of eight on the year for the record 57% Holy Innocents there 29 of those 57% from the free throw line.
Southwest Atlanta Christian the better from the free throw line 62% through their 31 games so that is the team that historically has had the advantage coming down the stretch.
And there it is.
GRIFFIN With a bucket and we'll get another It's been a while but soccer is back with the lead.
No good backs to follow good follow up by banks use the board well three point Southwest Atlanta Christian lead landing took a sell to Porter Carter from downtown three LAMB No good.
CARROLL I'm going to come back and take your time, get back into your offense corner, going to reset it here, going to drive, put it up and key shot foul up, coming at fundamentals.
Tommy this is the thing.
This is why you got to you got to box out banks six foot three makes it happen just a freshman corner.
Lot of young players out here, Tommy Key.
Yes.
They do not play like freshmen.
No one with a follow up good 534 in and out.
No good rebound got to come out to Griffin got to dry and put it up and in nice body control by Griffin She could have been in trouble there but a nice move in the body at the last second great control that's still playing with three fouls is played very smart with those fouls and to avoid picking up her fourth that's a moving screen right there you can see you can't move.
Look at that over the eye.
You can tell it's getting tough out there.
Do you see the bandage over there?
Yep.
Third foul moving screen back up by four over undefeated Holy Innocents.
By the way, jaundice, by the way, a Southwest Atlanta Christian, 26 and five Holy Innocents, nine and oh my soccer with the basket up and good Bob Butler high up off the board landing driving lays it up no good Cosell and Drummond fighting for the rebound.
I tell you what?
Soccer has gone to work here.
I don't know whether they were holding back a little bit, but they're getting after it now up off the backboard.
And I tell you what, Holy innocents now going into a press mode, they got to force action.
We were concerned about the stamina issue.
And as Gray said, that Coach Callow wasn't worried about it.
They're showing no signs of fatigue right now.
None whatsoever.
Sack up by six with the ball and they're slowing it down.
Jumper Good.
He's killing it.
Oh, Butler is red hot right now.
She is tearing it up from three and it is anywhere on that side of the court.
Good time out Momentum change here.
Oh, a timeout Holy innocents it's a 12 to 1 run by Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy this fall.
It's season for a football Fridays in Georgia.

Three exciting hours of live high school football kicks off this fall on GPB.
You know, Tommy, we about selfless Atlanta Christian academy and again only seven players on the roster only six really play in the rotation You look at this keep in mind is that a program that last year it lost to Saint Francis in the title game so they may be young but you look here at Butler really taking over we talked about again how has to come up and perform their double teaming Griffin and somebody else has to step up.
Do you see a little moxie here by the young guards?
I did.
I was like, how do you like that?
Yeah.
Ah, hello.
Welcome.
That's right.
She's got a couple of nice baskets.
You see Daniels with a couple of three pointers here.
Griffin still getting it done, but it's everyone else as a team getting it done right now for the Warriors Butler, eight points, three rebounds, three assists.
She's had some good work here in the fourth quarter.
Sack up four out of ten Holy innocents zero for two in field goal bully in a sense two out of their last 12 that cooled off gravely Sacko with an eight point lead Holy innocents with the ball holy innocents five turnovers in just 4 minutes here in the quarter nine to southwest Atlanta Gasol to Porter looking inside to Purcell Blanding nothing they're going to fire crosscourt to Porter drive baseline got a bounce out of bounds six turnovers yes this quarter this quarter 16 for the game for holy innocents Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy right now playing about as relaxed as they have the entire game too.
Griffin tries to go to backs batted away by holy innocents Blanding coming the other way traveling in a hurry That's tough because that was that was a great defensive stand right there to get the ball on the other end time just to try to do too much to bear 20 too much too soon.
Right now, you're only down eight points with half a quarter left.
There's lots of time.
You don't want to get it all at once, no matter how hard you try, you can't either.
Yeah, Butler to the top of the key to Walker.
Walker right side now to Butler Butler triggers it down under throughout the game and going no good up at off Blanding coming back the other way to Porter over banks No Good rebound out of bounds off Sacker that's where again banks are long six foot three and frame really made pointer alter that shot She then blocked a shot that she made a change southwest flat of Christian a 15 to 2 run.
They have turned it up a notch here in the fourth quarter long downtown.
Now what a three Sidney long with a long three Griffin and back try to slow the pace down full court pressure Holy innocence Griffin got to drive the lane for the player and score Griffin answers in a hurry with a two too long down under the castle's batted away and off Griffin's D I believe on him out Jack Griffin on both ends of the court.
How many times do we see him on the senior stepping up big?
Let's take a look at Lon with a three nice shot.
Very nice shot.
And then Griffin answers the length of the court up and in 249 left in this one, it really heated up midway through the third quarter and has carried over to the first quarter that third to the fourth quarter.
It really has you know, I was just you know, I'm not going to make this official, but I do believe it's been the same five it's played for countless Atlanta Christian this entire second half.
I don't think that I could be wrong, but I, I don't think they've subbed out on a second half either.
I don't remember them making a substitution.
I really don't.
Tory Dozer has played 8 minutes in the game and I think she's played she might have played 2 minutes in the in the third quarter but it's been pretty much and again very few, let's put it this way, very few substitutions for the Warriors long going to trigger it in the holy innocents and the Kessel no good banks with a foul stop.
I thought she got all ball there I was.
That was tough to sell.
Yeah, I thought she had a lot of them all.
There did.
Yeah, I did.
That's her second foul, as I like to say.
That's why they're over here and they're out there and that's right.
They get a better look at the first shot is up and good The lead now six Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, all five starters have three fouls.
Full court pressure driving Daniels in full court, Daniels playing keep away from Blanding fires a three no good puzzles got to come out of there with us Kirk Bennett's corner 221 left corner trying to drive Can't go Daniels One on one What corner Corner Trying to drive over.
Griffin No good Cassel Jump ball with Max Excellent defense by Vance It's got to be holy innocent still in possession down at the end line Nice defensive play by banks here and great play right here.
Two really good young players going at it in Cassel and Banks Long throws it inbounds and it goes out of bounds Someone touchdown obviously for southwest Atlanta Christian Well it's got to be southwest a lot of Christians fall I think here we've been Daniels was questioning at number ten right there the the guard walking back to the bench.
She's clashing with the referee, trying to ask what happened.
She didn't realize he might touch the ball.
50 to 45 and a turn of the left.
Let's see here.
Let's take a look See We see anybody touch it?
Nobody touched it and it goes out of bounds.
Oh, maybe they thought maybe at the last second.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was right here in front of us.
I was watching the ball.
I didn't see anybody touch it.
I didn't see anybody touch it until late.
I think they may have changed it.
I see Holy innocence coming out of the timeout, walking back on defense.
One more look at it here, Tommy, as we checked, another angle of it.
Let's see.
But yeah, they're going to make the change.
Yeah, it was out of bounds before she touched.
Yeah.
I don't know that she ever touched.
No, No, she didn't.
And they made the call Southwest Atlanta Ball and we've got a foul down in court Sidney Long with a foul at mid court the clock really good factor now five points not an issue at this point but when it gets down to one minute, it's going to be an issue.
Antonio That's only the fifth foul.
Make it out 6000 holy innocents.
So now now in in the bonus from this point on, we're going to see a lot of free throws from this point.
Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, six of last eight Holy Innocents, three of their last 15 state championship game.
This is what you would expect Walker triggering it in gets it to Griffin but they're going to play keep away along with Butler Cross-court pass to Daniels Daniels going to drive and the foul is going to be on Sidney Long that's her second and Holy innocents can give some fouls down the stretch here but in fact, all five starters have three.
And now by this point, I don't think it's an issue really with a minute and a half to go.
And in the lead shot is up, you know, good and holy innocents the other wide corner looking down on their blanding no good missed it up under and back Oh that's Griffin clears out and tries to get it and knocked out of bounds Griffin gets knocked down is are they going to call a foul.
I thought it just went out of bounds.
They got a foul.
I'm going to call it that.
The ball was knocked out of bounds on the pass and it'll be southwest Atlanta Christian Ball.
Here we go.
The replay here as Jersey was grabbed, she threw the ball out of bounds.
The referee is saying that it goes down south of Atlanta, but now something Atlanta turns it over on the amount.
And fourth foul on Butler.
Let's take a look at it again.
She pushed off her spot.
Yeah.
Holy Innocents Blanding driving up good three point game long pass Daniels Daniels driving so let a foul there Cindy long yet again her third She's really the one that can give up some fouls here less than a minute to go down to Casey's three point ballgame here Daniels and drive good timing watching this Warriors team as Daniels gets ready for another free throw the bonus money that makes this work only rotation six players.
You have two really good ball handlers in Daniels and Butler.
That really makes a difference.
Daniels is headed to south Alabama after graduation.
Long Lead Pass stolen away.
Southwest Atlanta Christian stolen away.
Griffin got to got fouled and got to go to the line 48.8 seconds left in this one You know you really think about this again this is a team right now been blowing out opponents by 33 points a game during the tournament.
And you have to wonder, this is where being undefeated if it goes against you for the have you been tested and had to come back and fight and clock not play many close games I think won against Darlington and then turned around and beat them 26 and the trouble down.
Yeah exactly He has a seven point game the first time but they came back again and it's been quite a test today.
It's not over you know but time is quickly evaporating, Griffin said.
Good shooter's touch there.
That's fake.
Some buzz makes it a three possession game.
Blanding driving no batted away Gasol has it stolen away Daniels all alone often goes at holy innocents kind of tried to make some kind of adjustment here Daniels with a steal all alone everybody in the arena watching a nice layup and a nine lead against Celtics Atlanta Christian.
A lot of credit on Holy Innocents.
This is a great, fantastic team.
What a job they've done, great young players, but the energy that they've come out with in the fourth quarter to start this fourth quarter and to sustain that for an eight minute period is really, really remarkable.
You have to remember they've made very few substitutions, if any of the second half.
Totally.
And we were concerned that there may be a problem, but coach assured us, no, not going to be a problem and it wasn't a problem even just then.
In the last couple of minutes, Butler commits her fourth foul.
She stayed in the game.
Sure.
And is smart to stay out of foul trouble.
Well, you got four with three fouls and Butler with four.
Yeah yeah.
And we were concerned that foul trouble may be a problem down the stretch but it has it been No nine point game now 33.5 seconds nine points is a bundle at this point.
Oh yes.
With just over a half minute left and this will trigger and get into Gasol stolen away again by southwest Atlanta Christian and long he's going to pick up yet another foul and that's going to be her fourth as Daniels goes to the line Daniels has really put the octane in the gasoline here ten points in the fourth quarter and Griffin has seven free throws.
Not good You got to remember Holy Innocents, 57% on the season free throws.
And Southwest Atlanta Christian has been 62% and we see a substitution there.
Finally, Kobe Glover for the first time, I think today was Thompson senior.
And this is both Holy innocents down the quarter up to last three pointer not good 19.3 left.
So I believe we got us a six point ballgame.
Still over when you can shoot threes.
The three points has really made the big difference.
Oh she's got a nice touch smart there by pointer to realize you need this many points she can and you've got a shooter like long on the wing one more look at it I'm really impressed with pointer her decision making that's a long three pointer that's way outside passed up the two to get the three which is what they need two possession games 18 points.
Yeah in case people are wondering at home why not go in and take the two on this situation too.
Doesn't help you as much.
You still make it still a three possession game.
The three pointer makes it a 2% possession.
That's the difference.
That's why.
And for a freshman, for a 1415 year old to recognize that, that's really impressive.
That's great coaching as we see again Holy innocents getting some instruction here from Tony Watkins.
He had high praise for Jackie Cowan, the Celtics Atlantico, too.
We talked to her, talked to him this week.
He said she's probably one of the most underrated coaches in the state with what she's done this year with only seven players.
Even he said to do what she's done with seven players is really just remarkable, is amazing.
And let's give credit to the Holy Innocents to goal 29 at No and to beat teams the way they beaten this year and the what they've done and to lose to a Southwest Atlanta team in the semifinals a year ago.
They were routed in this tournament in the final four to come back right now to the title game.
They have an outstanding season as well and a great 19 seconds.
Here to go, Southwest Atlanta, Kristen Daniels, three out of six, Griffin two out of four.
Now they're going to get it done at the free throw line and five fouls.
It's long, long, I believe.
Yeah.
Cydney Long, the sophomore that that takes out one of your there's three point shooters.
She didn't leave until they asked her to do it.
So into the game.
Zoller To replace long free throw no good butler means she thinks one here which she did not It's still a two possession game down court in a hurry.
COSELL It's a pointer to Blanding who's going to drop whistle and a foul That was a hard foul Gasol going in for a foul on banks.
I think on banks, Banks has played well inside and Griffin has stayed out of inside the second half free throws Good by Erika Cosell.
Smart move here as you can see.
Get well Coach Tommy really guarded the three point line You see nobody inside right here and they're willing to give up the two inside or the free throws.
Shot's good.
These are two well-coached basketball team.
They are 56, 52, four point game full court pressure by Holy Innocents.
Long, long pass.
Batted away, I believe by Holy innocents.
I think.
Yeah I think he might have gotten away with one.
I thought that it went off a warrior player but they got a break Warriors ball and they got to trigger it in and try to kill 6 seconds here, four point lead, inbounds pass.
And they're going to call a foul here on Blanding and go into the line.
That's her fourth Blanding going to the line.
Marquita Daniels at the line shooting too, with 4 seconds left, four point lead and got it now 4 seconds away for their first championship since 26.
What a year it's been to see what they've done.
19 points.
Do you think what they have done with seven basketball players, One of them have to be recruited?
Yeah, that's amazing.
And the win goes to southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
They are the champions by five knocking holy innocents from the ranks of the unbeaten five Portland 5752 Coach Jackie Collins.
Great job with seven players this year.
You just don't think things like this can happen.
No, no you don't.
Look at great shot.
Oh, don't tell me these coaches and players don't care.
Tommy, Let's go to Grace Helton with a very emotional Jackie, very emotional coach Jackie Count.
Right now, the crowd is cheering for her Coach.
Coach, She's hugging her players.
I know this is a special for coach.
Coach Cowan, you were you told me earlier this week it's all about quality and not about quantity.
And you display that on the court today.
Could you just say you told me earlier this week it's about the quality.
It's not about the quantity.
Tell me how you display that on the court today.
How that really rang true.
All year long we've had seven players and we've done a tremendous job of just preparing them for seven players.
Everybody wants to talk about play, but the difference is what can the seven players do?
We've prepared them all year for this moment and we've done it and I just need to thank God for seeing us through it because it has been a journey ahead.
And speaking on that note, you told me you wish you had journal chronicled this season What an end to that journal.
If you are to write it one day.
I mean, we did it.
We finally did it.
We've been here three times or twice before today.
This was the third time and I just knew that this was our time and this was our season.
And many congratulations.
Enjoy celebrating your time with your team.
Back to you, Tommy.
Thank you, Grace.
What an emotional thing.
I love the part where she said, What did you say?
I love that you can't you can't find responses like that.
What did you just say?
Let's take a break.
Championship has been decided.
The presentation of the trophies will come up shortly.
Your final score.
Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, 57.
Holy Innocents.
52.
We'll be back at the Making Center flex in just a moment.
Coming up next, we're going to have Whitfield Academy and Saint Francis.
Saint Francis was here a year ago and fell late to Green Forest Christian Academy.
So that's what we're going to have coming up next with Whitfield Academy and Saint Francis.
There will just be a ton of talent on the floor for the next game.
Hope you will join us for that.
So let's go now to mark on the podium.
Mark your name.
Thank you very much.
Time now to present the single-A private school state championship trophy for the girls.
For that, it goes to the HSA executive director, Dr. Ralph Swearingen.
Thanks a lot, Mark.
What a great way to start our last day of the tournament with this great ball game with two excellent teams right now.
It's my pleasure on behalf of the Georgia High School Association and Georgia Farm Bureau right to present the state championship trophy and game ball.
Southwest Atlanta Christian, congratulations.
Congratulations, the lady warriors.
Let's talk to Marquita Daniels, one of the seniors on the team, talked a little about what this means to you.
It feels amazing.
It means a lot to me.
You know what?
Only seven players, lot of hard work, dedication, their commitment played a big role on this team.
And I just love this team so much.
Amy Griffin with Just seven is going to be a bond of sisterhood here to get this kind of thing done.
Yeah, we started off a little rocky.
They ended up as a family and sisters.
It was pretty good.
We love each other.
Let's find a coach.
Jackie Callan, come out here, Coach.
Seven players, you went the distance.
You win the second state championship in school history.
You've got to be proud of that trophy.
Yes, I am very proud.
This has this has been a tremendously difficult season, not just because we have seven players.
We've really gone through a lot of difficult times together.
Everybody wants to know, how do you do it with seven players?
Well, it starts with mental toughness.
And I told them back in October, before our season started, if we want to win the state championship, it was going to be about mental toughness.
And this game is really a picture of what our season has been like and I'm very, very proud of these young ladies.
They fought hard.
This is Amy and Mark with us, third time for the championship.
And they said we weren't leaving the trophy and we did.
And we'll raise that trophy up by the Magnificent Seven of southwest Atlanta.
Christian, congratulations on a second State title.
And now let's send it over to Claire Sims and our GB tailgate party.
Thank you so much, Mark.
Congratulations once again to the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy girls for taking home a state title.
They are going to be headed home very happy this afternoon, but we still have a lot of work to do.
We have five more games slated for this afternoon and you are going to want to stay tuned because JB's tailgate party starts right now.
