He's coming in, hits a helicopter, slammed Tam, pull up from three, can watch the sky go full drive, backs it in and gets it from the Macon Coliseum in the making center flex.
It is time for championship game two of 15 this weekend here in Macon, Georgia.
It is the boys class-A title game between the warriors of Wilkinson County and the rebels, Turner County 24 and six versus 26 and four.
Good afternoon from the Macon Coliseum in the Macon center place.
I'm John.
This is Sean.
Thanks for accessing us however you do so whether it's here on GPB TV, GPB or the GPB sports app, two teams here, Sean chasing after the single-A boys.
Public title one no stranger to playing in the last game of the year, one chasing after their first title in 50 years.
That is huge.
And you talk about two teams that have been fighting with one thing energy all week long, all season long.
All right.
Let's talk about the blue storm coming all the way from Erwin, ten.
You want to talk to towns that have shut down, Wilkinson County shutting down Erwin, ten, 23 miles away.
Ashburn in Turner County, a 75 mile drive.
Let's talk about the blue storm and someone who's going to make it go for them.
Three, go center, three go.
Simmons is a beautiful junior.
I love him.
A point guard that scores the basketball 20 points a game five assists, John, with two rebounds, a three year starter.
He's streaky.
He's going to put up some big numbers today.
On the flip side, for Turner County, someone who's going to be stirring the dream for them.
Nate Martin second on the team in scoring Nate Martin, a first team All-Region this year, started as a freshman, came into his defense but improved as a year, going on averaging 12 points a game.
Watch for his energy tonight.
All right.
Now we're going to turn to this next page.
It's the Turner County's starting lineup, but just so you know, Turner County starting lineup that might be in there for about two and a half minutes worth of game action.
You got Dr. Aaron Jeter going up against Tyrone Kellogg in the two coaches.
Here's your Turner County lineup brought to us by our friends at Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
You saw Nate Martin there in the open Brian win Malik Brown to squeeze more and Shaq Baldwin your starting five for Turner County they may play as many as 14.
On the flip side for Wilkinson County, we talked about Rico Simmons, Trey Little, also a double digit score to go with Derrick trailing Kareem Sanders.
And if it's Wilkinson County, there has to be a Whipple involved.
We asked Dr. Aaron Jeter in his time how many Whipple's have been on the roster for the Blue Storm.
He has lost count Antonio Whipple give him eight points and nine boards coming in on the starting lineup.
So the starting line is now being introduced here at the Macon Coliseum.
Burlington, population 583, Wilkinson County on the whole 9500.
What are the keys for the Warriors today?
All right.
The keys are limit your turnovers.
They have to protect the ball because you're going to see a lot of pressure.
Take good shots.
A bad shot is equivalent done to a turnover.
And on the flip side, for the folks from Ashburn, what about Turner County?
Play with energy.
That's their focus.
That's still momentum.
That's what they talk about every day.
Play with energy, play with passion, winter hustle sticks.
And they may go home with the championship today.
CHASE The success brought to us by our friends at the technical college system of Georgia Tech.
You learn more, earn more.
Someone's going to earn a championship.
Today, we talked about the population of Arlington, 583 Wilkinson County Houses 9500 people, Ashburn population just under 3900.
So two towns have officially shut down and they are showing up here in the center of it all for making Madison be a great game.
I'm going to hold you to that assessment.
It's going to be a great game.
John.
Tip one by Wilkinson County and the Warriors will start it up.
No surprise, man Pressure by Turner County.
Once again, they will play as many as 14 in the game.
So the starting five that you saw might be out here for about two and a half minutes.
A whistle on the inside.
Yeah, attacking the re-investment, the things they love to do Wilkinson County attacking the rim and trying to do a great job of getting to the basket here at the free throw line looking for to balance squeeze more his first team first 13 seconds in free throw up and good by Tyreke Simmons last year in the championship game Wilkinson County started out one of their first 11 from the free throw line they hit their first two here for the first two on the ball.
Turner County working with the perimeter looking to drive high arching shot off the glass hitting nothing but grass rebound picked up on the inside missed again Turner County do they get a third scramble on the floor picked up and off the glass third shot misses Wilkinson county with the rebound but that's what Turner wants to play John put a lot of energy offensive rebounds and attack on the rim.
Tom an opponent for both of these two squads is Florida.
We talked to head coach Jeff Brannon earlier today.
He gave us some stuff on what to look for when it comes to playing against Turner County and Wilkinson County.
One of the things that he said as we take a look at Tyrone Kellogg here in just a second, it's that Turner County this year playing like Wilkinson County.
Last year, Wilkinson County, the first ever public title won by Doctor Aaron Jeter's six state championships.
In all long, three off the rim, no good rebound on the inside up and in for the easy to Shaq Baldwin again tip of the game John early shots in transition and also in half court that's the tempo that Turner wants to take Wilkinson County looking to drive bingo all night something in the bucket there and we got a whistle coming back out of it.
Bring Sanders with the deuce but a whistle coming back as the ball was inbound.
Great move by Sanders getting to the basket John both teams one attack on the offensive end and put pressure defensively for two Wilkinson county more than a minute and a half in Turner County still working the perimeter fake on the jump there.
Collins steps as Doctor Jeter, a living legend here in the state of Georgia.
In high school basketball.
John Thorpe was seven state champion for 16 years on the job in Irwin's in every single season, he's been on the job.
They've won at least 24 games and they've been in the state playoffs each and every time up.
And in an easy two on the drive by two records in six to Blue Storm, passing the two minute mark here, first quarter shot from the outside, three off the rim no good picked up Wilkinson again Wilkinson looking to run but only in control when it comes to transition.
Ashley Wilkerson does a great job of controlling the tempo of the game, not getting helter skelter, taking good shots, Baseline drive thrown up, looking for a whistle, didn't get it.
Turner County coming out with a rebound.
Lost control, lost control twice a third time picked up for Turner County guys near the basketball two on four and they pull it back out hit reset the offense smart move Nate Martin with it now Martin Big teardrop missed everything picked up on the inside shack.
Baldwin fakes a shot and we got a whistle.
Turn over Turner County again.
Game turners doing a good job of attacking, but they're not attacking John effectively.
They've got to do a better job of really getting to the paint and also making the outside shot.
515 for the first Wilkinson County up six to early as an offense, very prolific at times.
Wilkinson County scored over a hundred twice in the season.
Key points there for the Warriors and they're now up 8 to 2 Once again it's Derrick trailing.
Yeah, Trey with doing a great job of controlling his body and Gordon in charge and getting back on defense six over one for Wilkinson County the miss by Turner one and done back come the blue storm.
What are they going to do?
They're going to call an offensive foul on Quan Hillman first here's your offensive foul right here there's Hillman just defensively got his feet under control.
It's good to have Preston, but you don't want to sound that far away from the basket.
TILMON Looking to dive in and get the basket back.
And that's what you're going to see from Turner County.
You're going to see a lot of hands.
You're going to see a lot of movement, a lot of reaching, a lot of pushing, a lot of pressure.
And if you're in a corner, you're going to get double and triple team.
Well, it's good, John.
A lot of chance if you read some cable officials get a chance to see you understand yourself.
But when you come to the state championship game, you have to be a little bit more poise on the console because all the hand gestures and all the movement, you got to pick up early fouls and font.
Hillman has picked up two early fouls for Turner County.
He's going to have to sit junior guard, part of that second wave of the first wave coming off the bench, nine points a game on average.
Just great ball movement there from DICKERSON County, taking their time, controlling the temple of the game.
We talked about it in the Keys.
Don't they have to take great shots?
Good shots.
And that's exactly what they're doing.
Kareem Sanders with the two.
It's now ten to Wilkinson County trying to stop the run by the Warriors up.
And finally they get two more points on the board to break the run of the blue storm.
And there's that defense again coming back.
Pressure, pressure, pressure, energy, energy, energy.
They have to play that way, but they have to play a little bit under control.
We're talking about Turner Rebels.
They have to play a little bit under control with the pressure to one two full court pressure broken off the glass, rimming no point back up and in.
And it's another bucket for Kareem Sanders on the inside.
Yeah this style of play is falling to Wilkerson Wilkerson County's hands down because they actually been effective in breaking the press.
Then all of a sudden having players there to be effective.
If there's a miss, and also if there's the Make Bryan win with the basketball for Turner County dishes it back outside three pointer looks like it's short rimmed out.
It barely comes back down on the floor scramble they're going to call jump ball alternate possession stays with Turner County and with that stoppage of play 333 to go for the first Wilkinson County on the early run, a ten two run putting it out on Turner County right now, leading 12 four from the Macon Coliseum and the Macon center plex here on the great GPP.
Welcome back.
Macon Coliseum, Macon Cineplex, 333 for the first.
And guess what?

See what's going on.
We'll also tell you a little bit of the story about what you can expect on Football Fridays and the tailgate parties that we have here in between the games early fall so far.
Hey, John, we talked about the key.
Go back to the Keys, win the hustle stat.
And that's what Turner's doing.
Even though they're losing right now, they've got five offensive rebounds, rebounds off of ten missed sub ten shots attempted.
So fits percent of the shots going up on Turner.
They're getting the offensive rebounds they win it the hustle stat but they're not taking care of the ball.
So the field goal percentage numbers right now.
Wilkinson hit five of their first seven Turner County, two of their first ten.
Four of them missed in that one scrum under the bucket.
Turner County also oh four from three point right So Turner County's frantic pace right now has them in an eight point hole.
As we reach 3 minutes to go first quarter, they're going to call a block little doing a great job of getting his show to pass the defense right there John.
And getting the block charged.
They're on the defensive.
Turner foul on Antonio grabbed it 14 white look on the inside It's his first yeah just feet the feet on the defense was moved there and grabbed it He's got to stay in control and take the chance Trey with three up and over the backboard rebounded on the inside high off the glass.
No once again picked up by Greg Braddock.
That is their leading scorer at 13 and 813 points eight rebounds a game.
But he's part of that first wave off the bench a lot of times, John, you want to come in and get better and that's what Turner feels that they can do with him in the second lineup.
Get better with him, substitute in the second way, and here's Braddock for an easy two.
And you can see right in he's been effective on both ends of the court defensively controlling the rebound offensively scoring the next basket Jericho Simmons five blue He'll be handling the basketball most of the time but Wilkinson County drive to the inside off the glass up and in Antonio Whipple Yeah Woolford doing a great job avoiding charge Nice finish at the basket Turner's got to do a great job John here to control the offense more of a pressure and then containment contained the ball on the perimeter.
Coming up on 2 minutes to go first quarter 14 six Wilkinson County chasing after their seventh state title five of their first six in class AA the other was in a three point attempt is off the rim short again picked up but Brian Wynne gets it for Turner County off the rebound the launch another three this one's long Wilkinson County trying to sky for the rebound three Turner County players on the floor battling for it with two Wilkinson County's ultimate possession sends it the other way at Turner right now shooting down from the three and that's exactly what Wilkinson County wants Shoot the perimeter ball, stay out of the paint with your drive and your penetration and you're going to play into the hands of Wilkinson County.
If I'm trying to be under control, don't take every open shot because you actually fall into the trap that Wilkinson County is setting.
And here's what we're talking about with changes coming in for Wilkinson County, Win is in Nate Martin, Jack Lewis Moore, 23, Shaq Baldwin won and Malik Brown 25.
Right now.
And there will be a test later on off the glass hard coming back out in transition Turner County high off the dribble losing control turnover Fort for Wilkinson County has possession They had to get rid of it but they couldn't get rid of it enough.
Shaq Baldwin stole it back and Trey Little saying that one's on me.
Yeah he kind of you know, he lost control of the ball.
John.
Sometimes you don't have to dribble the ball on the turnover.
Pick it up, take your time with the defense retreat.
Now you can take the ball instead of a turnover in that setting.
First foul for Wilkinson County here in the quarter.
Turner County has four so far.
Lazy pass almost picked off by Trey Little that time he coached us he coasted over the edge, utilizes his intensity for the guys to start thinking smarter.
You know you don't want to actually go gamble in a bad position and pick up a necessary foul there John Big be smart about what you're doing and make smart decisions on the defense because you're talking about good gamble versus bad.
Damn good.
Zach The right is a good gamble.
Yeah, well, it's not a good gamble when the passes away from the basket.
If it's attacking the basket, yes, you're in the passing lane away from the basket.
John.
You want to be more of a pressure containment because you want to take away the drive and the penetration.
Nate Martin with the basketball for Turner County pass all the way over to the other side.
Brian win Martin to white running point for the rebels up and down they call contact so he got to continue possession up and in for the two and three on win to cut it to 14 840 seconds for the post and if you notice John in that position no threes were taken.
They were patient, they were poised, they were able to get to the rim and finish with an easy to pick out high.
Simmons and catch this break cousin into what he sees in that big jumper from the outside three pointer short coming back in transition Shaq Baldwin for Turner County looking to dish hits the wing Nate Martin Teardrop good again that take him a three shot fake getting to the rim John now Turner is playing under control with a little bit more poise and attacking the rim.
Nate Martin almost had the steal he had to knock out of bounds.
7.1 on the internal clock for the first quarter.
Turner was down at ten two at one point.
Now it's 1410 folks quick change Malik more than in for Washington it for Wilkinson County Hey John both coaches want to have a hard nosed fall game and that's exactly what we're seeing right now.
Even though it's a four point game, this is a hardnosed ball game here.
In the first quarter, we were then for three two looking to go inside, whistle the point five and it's like it's going to stay with Wilco.
So it's going to have to be a catch and shoot takeaways.
More in for Turner County.
Cedric Leggett now 23 for three, a little hike, Quick rising fire Will it count?
Misses everything and that'll do it for the first quarter.
Wilkinson County had it early, Turner County had it late, so we are done with 8 minutes.
Wilkinson County leading 14, ten, 24 minutes to go to decide the class single boys public title for Macon here on the great GPP.
Welcome back to making Coliseum Wilkinson County 14 Turner County ten.
I got coach Jeter right behind me and when I was speaking with him earlier, I asked him, How are you going to maintain the defense going against Turner County?
And he said, Just survive.
And it looks like they're doing that right now.
They pride themselves on hard work and being humble.
And this is Coach's seventh attempt at going for a state title tonight.
Back over to you, John.
Third person in here for the weekend here at the Macon Coliseum in the Macon Center plex, John Nelson, Shawn Golding, Raven Tirado here with you.
Wilkinson had it early.
They were one of their last six on the floor.
Turner had it late, started to 410 hit four of their last seven.
Yeah.
What, what Turner did there John They came in with that bench with that second wave and they got to four up to a40 lead.
Now it's only four point lead now for Wilkinson County.
So Turner's bench has been very helpful in cutting back into the eight point lead that Wilkinson County first had.
Turner County had the glass advantage, ten, six, pretty much even across the board else wise, if that is a word.
I just made it a word elsewhere.
Tell us why else was starting the second 8 minutes here to decide the Class AA Boys Public Championship?
It is Wilkinson County and Erwin ten about 25 miles northeast of Macon, going up against the Turner County rebels coming here.
They've been close a couple of times, chasing after their first title in 50 years.
And you want to talk about lowering the shoulder?
Antonio Reddick did just that.
Well, there's a reason why he's the team's leading scorer, John.
He comes in on that second wave, but he's effective.
They get the ball to him down low.
He scores at point blank range.
Jericho Simmons tries a teardrop off the back of the rim.
No good back comes Turner County, only down to bounce pass into Craddock works The shoulder gets to do some more time again inside out basketball Turner can get the ball in the ground let him go to work John you seen him very effective here to start the second quarter ATO Turner run to even things out so 9 minutes in nothing's resolved Wilkinson County working the perimeter on this tough man defensive Turner County whistle on the drive and a foul on the rebels side we want to talk about a way to get it even you take it inside it's a 14 like is that good Braddock showing Well he's a team leading scorer John get the ball to him on the block Let him be effective.
Create a sense of presence down low and finish right there in front of the basket.
Great offensive mindset of getting the ball inside.
But the other side of that, he's hit the last two baskets for Turner can.
He's now picked up his second foul so he's going to have to sit for a while and that shows you why he starts to edge on in the second unit.
Second way.
Don't pick up the early fouls because the way that the team plays the inside player, John, is usually the one that gets called with more fouls.
So start him in the second wave.
That way he can be more effective and get more minutes in the game.
And so that's two now on Braddock and two on John Hillman, two of your bigger scorers now with two each as we are a minute 20 in here in the second airball missing everything Simmons with the rebound again we talked about how Turner is not making not has not made one three John to go back with the best player gets out of the game shooting the three misses everything gives Wilkerson Kent a chance to come back and attack his good score here.
No real quick back of the rim.
No good for Wilkinson County coming back down.
Juan Williams, easy to pick out, John.
He's got that left hand wrapped Nate Martin running the offense 2 minutes in Turner down to 1614 fake on the jumper pulls up short off the rim no good Wilkinson County couldn't come out of the paint with it Turner County tries for the put back and we got a whistle on the first heading to the line for Turner County Malik Brown foul on Dirk Trey Wick that's his first first free throw no good Joe We talk about winning the hustle stats here for Turner.
Turner is doing one thing well now offensive rebounding.
They're winning the offensive rebounding battle.
Now Lucas County has a total of six rebounds.
Turner has a total of ten, but six of those offensive rebounds.
So Turner doing a great job of Wissink winning one of the host stats, which is neat.
Shaq Baldwin With half of those rebounds, three offensive, two defensive in the first quarter for one white You keep an eye on that as well Free throw no good put back missed as well Double teamed on the baseline almost picked off again by turn it down and here's that pressure that comes in waves losing the handle Derek Trey quick double team tries to find something to do with it no over and back because of the deflections Turn it down.
His frantic pace working on their behalf.
We got whistle deflections, John.
That's another stat that's not Kent.
But now it shows you that the Turner style of play on the Helter Skelter mindset defensively he went in the hustle steps, deflections, steals, offensive rebounds, four fouls now for Wilkinson County, six for Turner County, Nate Brown working the outside and Nate Martin working outside for Turner County, thinks about driving, kicks it back out.
Shaq Baldwin thinks about the three and is back out to Nate Martin Martin calls a traffic pattern 510 to go for the second Wilkinson County leading 1614 three point attempt off the rim those good two Turner County guys trying to get the rebound but it ends up in the hands of Antonio Whipple Wilkinson County coming back Baseline drive pull up misses everything rebound Wilkinson County puts it up second attempt misses everything as well scramble picked up Nate Martin Martin has numbers kicks it jumper too long Wilkinson comes back with it again Carrico Simmons coming far corner too much and they're going to call out of bounds on Derrick Trey quick turnover to turn it down John We talked about a fast paced game to open up tonight's contest up and down the court.
They're going to be a lot of turnovers.
That's the style of play that turn it plays that forcing Wilkinson now to play at their tempo.
Wilson has to control the tempo of the game and be more under control and poised with the basketball.
Wilkinson County has hit one of their last ten from the floor.
As we get four and a half to go here first half drive and a foul on the inside.
Looks like it's probably either on Trey Wick or Antonio Whipple.
Let's see who they call.
And this is what you have to do when you don't have your top score critic in the game who's a post player.
How do you get into the paint?
John Penetrate from the perimeter, drive, drive, drive foul on Trey, which for a free throw, no good.
I think Worthing will sit for Wilkinson second free throw by Shaq.
Baldwin is long off the back of the rim Whipple in there for Wilkinson County Last touch they say by Wilkinson so Turner gets it back again yet offensive rebounds John deflections turnovers do a great job of staying active chasing the basketball They've got to put more points on the board It's going to be tough now not having a top score in the game.
Squeeze more sets for Turner looking to inbound Shaq Baldwin going to have to go along and he does Daquan Williams who as we talked John about getting back in the game he's in there now watch with Turner to attack with him getting the ball inside him be a lot more active baseline off the rim no good three Turner County guys fight for it ball block out of the way by Kareem Sanders and he's going to stay with Turner County coming up on the halfway point of the first half here second quarter six still 1614 offensive rebounding offensive rebounding.
That's the key here for Turner.
In the second quarter.
You have to rebound, but they have to score when they do it as well.
We talked about Wilkinson drought, Turner County not far behind having missed their last five from the floor clear out blocked scramble inside last touch by Turner County.
We're coming back the other way with it both teams done playing characteristic.
If you were to watch this game and come in here in the second quarter, you think this is more of a helter skelter up and down contest.
But this is the way they play.
This is the way both teams play.
What team controls the tip, the one that's going to win off the rebound bucket for Kareem Sanders out of control was Nate Martin try to get a timeout called as he was losing control of the basketball.
Didn't want to lose possession and it looks like we're going to take a break three and a half to go here in the second quarter.
Wilkinson County up 1814.
We'll find out the rest of the first half when we come back on JB.
Welcome back.
Macon Coliseum, Macon Center.
Blake's 330 for the first half here.
Wilkinson County up for over Turner County, 1814.
Let's find out how they got here.
Brought to us by our friends at Georgia's EMC GMC Lighting the way Wilkinson's road to Wheeler County, Dooley County in a very tough Calhoun County team where they won by seven where they ended up playing Turner County today.
Then the flip side, Turner County, Claxton Portal portal, tough competition in single-A.
Jeff Brandon's Bunch.
I talked to Coach Brannon today.
He's really hurt in watching this one.
And then a very tough game against Hawkins when they only won 5149.
But in looking at Turner County's numbers, their offensive output decreases each time.
Well, it's about as the game wears on, John, Fatigue starts to kick in, and now the landscape of the game starts to show its figures.
And what happens is if you're up tempo game team, you still want to play Helter Skelter, but you at some point time, you do have to be under control.
That's what they've been working on this week in practice.
First Free Throw Up and In by Malik Gordon puts the lead back up to five second free throw up.
And in Wilkinson County now back to a six point advantage game was tied at 14.
Wilkinson has scored the last six second quarter free field goals.
Wilkinson one for six, Turner County, one for eight Turner County.
Looking to go on the inside, try to get the basketball to Granite shack.
BALDWIN Driving off the shoulder, off the glass up and in yeah, penetration attacking the rim If you're Turner you want to attack the paint offensively especially John with the basketball from the outside jumper off the back rim No good picked up by Jacques-Louis more coming back down with it Turner County lazy pass by shack Baldwin scrambled for it Wilkinson County had it lost it and in and out.
No good thought I heard a whistle, but they kept on playing.
Drives off the glass.
No Turner County up with it this time and Jack Baldwin will slow it down.
But John I think going Wilkinson County fatigue is starting to kick in.
You see him point blank layups being missed.
There would be some counted things they are accustomed to.
Macon fatigue may become fact that John here in the second half Wilkinson county traditionally this season for doctor Jitter only about eight deep might play ten on some occasions.
But a lot of times as a coach John here in the championship game, you're going to go with the guys who got you here.
You're going to go with your bread and butter that night, the 10th guy, somebody who you put in because of foul trouble.
They're not in foul trouble.
So he's going seven, eight deep now, whereas Turner's going ten, 12, maybe 14 deep comfortable for them.
Drive looks to kick it back out because he was under the bucket the work the perimeter again jumper rim no good rebound by tomorrow and Terry by Turner County quick outlet up square fire three long Wilkinson County had it lost it Shack Baldwin lost it again and Wilkinson loses control knocked out of bounds It's going to stay it's going to go back to Turner County trying to stay in aggressive, John.
I mean, Turner staying very aggressive.
They're shooting the three.
I'm shocked.
They're still jacking it from outside the arc.
But, John, I think that's in their mindset.
Whenever you have an open shot, you have to pull the trigger and let it go into the paint off the glass.
No good out of bounds.
And you talk about three pointers as it stays with Turner County in the postseason.
And coming into this game, Turner County, only nine of 43 from three point and up to the time out, they were oh for five and still pulling up the three again.
But I think John is part of their mindset.
When you're open, don't be afraid to let your shot go because we're going to beat the other team in the offensive rebound category.
Clint Hillman back in the ballgame with his two fouls, kicks it nearside Coleman back with it, trying to find a way inside to go up against this very tough Wilkinson County defense bounce pass inside picked it back out Hillman fire rim no good out of bounds for the push foul on Wilkinson County looks like it's going to go on Antonio Whipple again turn Turner still John pulling the 3a3 point shot it's good if the shots go in John but sometimes at some point here in the game they've got to reject that three point shot and get the ball inside the paint inbounds all the way out to Quan, Hillman dribbles.
It loses control on the floor can't get the timeout call Wilkinson town he comes out with it and stolen from behind great hands great defense taken back and the layup off of all of the carnage on the floor Kareem Sanders with the two and a whistle on the other side basket won't count again.
Hustle plays Hustle plays.
Turn has been winning them all game long.
But here's Wilkinson County kind of giving them some of their own medicine.
Here's a hustle play loose ball Wilkinson County coming up with the two.
Kareem Sanders with the Deuce coming up on a minute to go first half Wilkinson County up six at 22 to 16 and whistles there is Malik Gordon was trying to bring it up the floor and I was telling my kids there's a time and place for everything, just not the time and place for that foul.
You've got 57 seconds left in the first half, just not the time and place for that foul fall away from the basket Foul on Shaquille ball on his second some foul for Turner County Moore's into the line with 57.4 front into the one and one is good Gordon's back in his good lead back up to 820 for 16 coming up on 50 seconds to go here first half Juan Williams shot deflected Wilkinson County trying to come out with it looks like they will they've got numbers three on two alley oop look out doesn't happen communication got messed up on the way up and the three is good by Malik Ward and that's huge.
You know John I'm one of those guys you throw stuff something on the wall, something's going to stick.
The three point shot finally foul for one of the teams and it fell for the right team right now with this the county seven for them so far three pointer off the rim no good for Turner County Coming up on 15 seconds to go in transition They've got numbers and the easy layup that time for Jericho Simmons getting out of control late second quarter for Turner County now down 13 They were tied at one point and that's going to do it for the first half 901 for Wilkinson County for the end of the quarter.
Let's send it over to Raven.
Well, Doctor Gina, Ravens coach, I know before the game you said you needed to survive the defense.
How do you feel about how you have done offensively against that?
You what I feel very good at this point, but you got 16 more minutes of basketball left up to this point.
We've done a good job.
Tempo is a very important thing.
Obviously, going in the south.
How will you maintain the tempo and keep it in your hands?
Well, we want to try to run when we can.
If not, let's take it down and get what we can out of our offensive sense.
All right, Coach.
Well, good luck.
Thank you.
Back over to you, Mark, very much.
Welcome to the county has won six championships already.

Yes.
All right.
It's been a great first game.
It's been a great first half of this boy's game.
And I mean, the enthusiasm and the cheering level of really it's hurting the air.
Yeah, it is.
I'm kind of glad we have these headphones on to protect us just a little bit, but I don't know how much good it's going to do in the second half.
You know, there's so many people are here.
They come up for these championship games, the cheerleaders, the parents, the administrators, the teachers.
And it's just a crazy thing happening here in Macon with this everybody pulling for their favorite team.
Well, it's really neat to see it's not just the high school students, but some of the middle school students probably even elementary school students who want to be playing on this court one day soon.
And they probably will be.
We're getting ready for the second half now.
The boy single-A public school game between the Wilkinson County Warriors and the rebels of Turner County.
Don't you go anywhere.
John Nelson and John Goldman are up next with first half my life and stops and the second half.
That's all coming up on GPB on Championship weekend.
Welcome back Macon Coliseum Macon Center plex getting ready for the start of the third quarter in the boys class-A public championship Wilkinson County leading Turner County And if I was to ask you a phrase to describe that first 16 minutes, how about out of control?
Out of control.
Chaos.
Yeah, I was going to say, I mean, you have to look at the stats in just a minute, but the numbers are staggering on a bunch of different levels.
But the presence inside one on each side has really done things well for what's been going on in set up basketball at point blank range scoring.
That's the key for both teams.
John.
Getting the ball inside the paint.
That's what Turner's doing to their top player.
He had 2000 at first half.
He's got to stay out of foul trouble and be effective in the second half.
Antonio Granik leading for Jefferson doing the same thing, getting inside the paint, Dunn attacking the offensive rebounds, scoring with their post, guys inside and attacking the rim.
Both teams want to play well.
One thing you have to do, Dunn control the tip of the game, win the house of plays, look at the county, look like they are in control of this game now.
All right.
What stands out here a lot?
Free throws, free throws.
Wilkinson County, eight for eight from the free throw line.
Turner open five in three point shooting.
Both teams just can't throw the ball in the ocean.
Stay away from the three point line, get the ball inside and control the tempo of the game.
Halftime stats brought to us by our friends at Farm Bureau, Georgia and stats courtesy of our friends at the West Georgia Technical College.
Both teams combined 18 of 57 from the floor in the first half.
Oh, for 11 from three for Turner County, but they were also off five from the line.
So in the in the entire scope of the playoffs, Turner County from three point is now nine of 54.
The uncanny thing, John, is both teams that comfortable with this style of play.
This is the way that they play.
This is the way they've played all year long and put them in a position here to win the state championship.
So this is something that's consistent for both teams.
Turnover to start things off.
Scramble fought for several times over Turner County comes up with it, shot hits the bottom of the rim.
We're going to have a foul and it looks the foul is going to go on.
Kareem Sanders, that'll be his second.
Here's your blocking the inside.
Well, the first person on the floor, the first team on the floor is Turner.
So they're going to come up with the loose ball again.
TURNER Doing A great job of attacking the rim, getting the hustle plays when the hustle plays.
Now with a chance to make two points, Juan Hillman's free throw is good.
That's the first free throw Turner County has made in this game.
Craddick, their leading scorer in the first half with eight, Shaquille Baldwin had four Nate Martin, Brian Win, and now Thornhill, and each with two for Wilkinson County Green.
Sanders had ten to lead them bucket up and in for Trey Little his first two of the game for the pressure look good zone up front but the backcourt pressure to protect the basket was nonexistent.
Turner got to do a better job if you're going to press your pressure, you've got to have someone want you to stay in the paint, working the perimeter.
Shaq Baldwin Trying to post up down low and get the basketball fake drive, get him up in the air and a foul.
Juan Hillman driving the paint, which is what Coach Kellogg has wanted him to do all season long.
And the foul is on Kareem Sanders, and that is his third something to pay attention to Now, from this moment forward report by Turner County up and in one more time to back to back possessions for Turner John getting to the rim getting to the paint that was a mindset coming here to the second half I'm sure for Turner coming out of halftime Green Sanders out with three fouls Number ten corn Tobias Jones in at 9 minutes in the first half no points big drive off the glass no looks like it's going to go off Turner last but they're going to give it to Turner County off Wilkinson County last week Wilkinson Wilkinson attacking that question like water through a barbed wire fence.
So there's not a lot of pressures for stopping the ball, just trying to camouflage something to get a steal or a turnover.
But Wilkinson Town has just got to convert here at the rim, Turner County down 11 first minute into the third quarter.
Coleman denied on the drive, kicking it back out.
Nate Martin thought about it.
They're going to continue to work perimeter with the passing game trying to find a hole to get Wilkinson County in foul trouble because Wilkinson County's death does not match Turner County's three pointer is up and in Nate Martin felt that way.
Yeah he nice stroke nice follow through good rotation on the shot again get those enough things in the wall Jones something's going to stick eventually a three point shot was going to fall for Turner Dr. Jeter giving Trey Little an earful calling a timeout so here's let's take another look at it dipped dip penetration into the paint nice to up good follow through very deep breaks again Turner intact mode you got an open shot done they've got to shoot it seven back the rim but shoot the open shot seven to run to start the third quarter And you saw why coach Jeter was giving Trey little a bit of advice he was at the top of the defense but got overlay after the pass happened which created the three to make the lead.
Now only eight will help him recover defensively.
Wilkerson County don't allow the ball against the paint penetration John stop the ball then you want need to help them recover keep them on the perimeter playing perimeter basketball only four only field goal attempt made by Turner County here in the third quarter Wilkinson one for two so far and here's at press here's your turnover and the lead is down to six Yeah the 1 to 2 press watch it don't look high forms putting pressure on the ball striking the pass coming out with the steal That's Turner basketball at its best question basketball in the full court fashion and Dr. Jeter has called another time out He's going to talk about it.
Wilkinson had a big lead.
It's now down to six class public title in the balance on the great GPB.
Welcome back Macon Coliseum Macon Center Flex and I think momentum is to change Wilkinson County now only up six big turnovers happen quickly 616 for the third and he has been giving his team an earful.
Well, John, one of the things I want to talk about real briefly is right before the half 57 seconds left turn, it comes out in fouls.
So now the league goes from six points to 13 points into the half.
Turning now comes out, puts pressure on Wilkinson County.
Now it's a six point game that's an interesting turn around.
If Turner didn't fouled going into the half, Turner may have a four or five point lead here with 6 minutes and 16 left in the third.
And you saw Quinn Hillman there.
He had no points in the first half in the third quarter.
You see his results for free throws and the easy layup that converted the game to a six point margin.
And so for Turner County, he's going to full court, press one three, one paint in the corners and see if Wilkinson can get up and get some kind of an offensive set happening.
There's a double in the corner.
High pass, double in the corner.
There's your baseline move and the two.
Wilkinson Hey, the way to beat the press, John, is pass move and be good spacing.
That's exactly what Lucas Anthony had.
Then pass the ball, but they had great spacing which resulted in the nice easily.
Oh Nate Martin thought about it, didn't take it and Anderson barely hitting the rim that time by Juan Williams and that's almost like a turnover for Turner County off of the one and done eight point lead double team in the corner barely found someone to pass it to off the glass rimming no spot for rebound and it looks like it was off Turner last it's going to stay with Wilkinson County just the way to beat the press embrace the trap Good ball movement great spacing You able to attack the rim textbook basketball a break the press tray a little with the deuce elbow off and the fall down shot is deflected and out of bounds and it's going to go to Turner County this time.
Now, John, if you look at both of these teams, the way they're playing, you never think there's a shot clock out here.
There's not a shot clock.
I don't know why these players are forcing the ball.
Don't take a bad shot.
Be patient.
Let the game come to Nate Martin looking to drive, forced to take it back out, starting again.
Free throw line up and in Turner attacking the basket, attacking the basket, scoring inside the paint and bring it back the other way.
We got whistles and we got a chance Call.
That's what the press encourages the offense to do.
John play faster than what they're more accustomed to.
Great defense, great position fantastic defensive charge there by Turner County foul on Trey Little coming back the other way That's a little stir that's going to be something to pay attention to lead his six nice drive in the paint high off the glass up and in front Hillman again Turner scoring the way down we've talked about all game long attack attack attack Do not shoot the outside but again, you don't need that foul.
I saw it coming, John, that far away from the basket.
Here's your last bucket.
Just attacking the rim, playing the way that you do.
Great defense of avoiding the avoiding the defensive foul.
But Turner that's the way you have to play John attack the rim under control eight points for Hillman in the third quarter but he has to sit down and he's picked up his third foul coming up on four and a half to go blocked by Turner County by Gratiot but they can't control it and it's an easy to the other way.
Yeah those those are the baskets John you put your head down a little bit more defensively because you just can't give up those easy baskets.
Dragic tries to put it up on the inside ballot time by Greg Cousin.
Anytime you're behind in the game John, the best way to score and to get back in the game is the school.
When there's a dead ball, the free throws when the clock is not moving because now you can set the defense off the press.
You play us to rest just a little bit.
Braddock's first free throws Good.
He now has nine second free throw good down to a four point lead Now for Wilkinson County Turner County pressing.
Watch for the watch for the trap coming.
Wilkinson working the perimeter trying to find somebody open to get a dribble drive down kicks it back out three pointer rimmed out no good tip in in just an unfortunate play on Turner's behalf let the offense get inside Great tip there on the offensive rebound from Tobias Jones for two gets it to 3731 back up to a half dozen Martin driving high arching shot off of the backboard and the rim lazy pass easy to pick up Turner County coming back with it once again tied on the floor and will come in the other way.
John you look at the officials now, kind of let the game kind of play out a little bit.
The touch fouls their both teams play into their own style, dribble into the paint rimmed out no good rebound Turner County looking to have numbers they four on three but they decide to pull it up instead Nate Martin ball knocked away coming back Wilkinson County they don't have numbers it's a two on two but they get the two and the bucket and the foul.
Those are the kind of plays that understand turnovers a mistake.
Jones comes in bunches as my dad used to say, Hey, here's a turnover, but now you're trying to make it up.
You go down, now you give it in one.
So that's a five point swing there for Wilkinson County with a chance to go up ten, nine points.
Trey Little free throw up and good.
So momma like, huh?
Yeah Momma like mama likes third foul they're 323 to go for the third Wilkinson now up to a nine point advantage it was for a lot of momentum swings was a double digit lead got to six cut to four back out to nine coming up on 3 minutes to go third quarter DeAndre Pierce top of the key looking to launch three short rebound picked up over the back missed no good and what are we going to call foul on Malik Brown are we going to call a foul on Greg Cousins instead we're going to call it on DeAndre Pierce.
Well that'll be his first foul, a third foul in the quarter by Turner County.
So like the pressure that Turner is forcing great turnover there.
Now how are they going to take in transition John That's important.
High off the glass rim.
No.
And they're going to call steps or at least they should.
And they do.
Greg Cousins had control of the basketball, just didn't have enough control of his feet to keep possession.
Well, John, I go back to Turner great press, great steal, bad finish in transition.
You've got to be helter skelter defensively, John, but you have to be a little bit more smart on the offensive end swap out for Wilkinson County Derrick Trey Watt will sit down Turner County looking to inbound they do and they're going to call a block on the inside as Malik Brown was trying to drive looked like Greg cousin had him on a bit of a leg scissor down on the floor.
Let's take another look Well nice strong move inside little flop inside defensively could have gone either way but the official made a great call and now Turner has a chance to get a second time.
Jarvis John, the second chance here of cutting into the nine point lead here officials for this particular game, Curtis Pierce.
Nikki Morgan.
Patrick Graham, No relation to the commander, Steve Graham in the truck as far as I can recall.
Shot attempted one more time up no good by Malik Brown and they're going to call another foul Is this one on cousin?
Looks like it is and that's his third third 1066 foul for Wilkinson County here in the corner but that sends Turner County to the line first straight throw up and good.
And once again, as you add talks off a free throw, they're going to set that defense of theirs.
Exactly.
But the way they're scoring, John, they're scoring.
We're getting the ball into the paint because Wilkinson County is controlling contain in the defense.
So the penetration is more difficult, but the pass into the post is more effective here in the second half.
Attorney Second free throw, no good Wilkinson County coming out with it.
And they're going to try to set up an offense to beat the press may do with Malik Worthing up high guarded by Shaq Baldwin bounce pass inside almost steps three pointer good and that's a big bucket by kontaveit a huge buckets there for Wilkinson County inside that basketball when you start making it three on the outside you've got a chance to extend the defense pass over the top up and in basket counts Malik Brown and it looks like Antonio Whipple might get called turn it going back into the dark hole.
John pass the ball into the paint.
Here we go.
Let's get the ball inside and let our post players be more effective there versus Wilkinson County, Big man down low second foul on Whipple it's Wilkinson seventh.
Try to complete the three point play and he does back an 8 to 10 for the third 4335 Wilkinson County more than almost triple teamed at one point but that leaves it wide open Close the dunk deny it the lid in the basket.
John was closed hit the front of the rim, didn't give himself enough of a run way to get a basket.
Let's see what Turner County can do here.
Kicks it inside.
Malik Brown is hot, Miss No second chance?
No.
Wilkinson will come out with it.
That was a missed opportunity there for Turner to really gain the momentum in the match away with the missed dunk attempt there for Wilkinson.
And coming back to the bucket Quinn Tobias Jones he's got the last five for Wilkinson back to a ten point advantage under 90 seconds Williams dishes inside Malik Brown hacked to go to the line interior pass He is fantastic here for Turner John right here in the second half there getting the ball to the high post the high low look it inside let the post players go to work.
I love the game plan.
All right.
Go ahead and show it.
This is not what Wilkinson County wanted.
Well, the Cookie Monster just didn't open up that trash can, didn't allow the ball to go into the basket.
Was Oscar the Grouch with the trash can?
Come on now.
Here's your here's Oscar the Grouch.
You're right.
Oscar the Grouch.
There's your last bucket by Quinn Tobias Jones.
So, yeah, Oscar the Grouch wouldn't let Wilkinson County come in on that one.
Malloch Brown.
He's had a big third quarter.
This is the second.
This is that free throw there.
The key is he's going to owe John.
So have a watch Sesame Street and long time.
It's on GPB Monday through Friday morning catch up shot up and in gets the roll Wilkinson down he gets the deuce and it's back up to 11 with a minute to go in the third 4736 three pointer rimmed out No another missed opportunity for Turner County Wilkinson County coming back.
It's like they're going to set up a little offensive line drive fake the three takes it back out Smart offense smart off to the staff for Wilkinson County take a time off the clock for a little driving Doesn't get the bucket they're going to call a charge That's the one call all night long John That will put a question mark on the offense headed to Bennett.
Well, he had a little push off.
I don't know if that was a charge.
Look like a good block, but unfortunately, the ball's going the other way.
Turner has the ball.
Third foul on little on the on the charge Wilkinson County doesn't contests Turner County pretty much inbounds it at half at half court as we hit 30 seconds I heard the slap all the way over here they didn't call it stick back up and in again the penetration is good for Turner but the offensive rebound is great.
Greg Cousins had the touchdown pass, couldn't control it.
And back comes Turner County with 15 seconds.
What do they do crossover into the paint lost control of it but they're going to call a foul on the drive as Quan Hillman zero just wanted to continue his hot hand here in the quarter and here's your stick back is Turner doing a great job attacking the rim offensive rebounds It's almost a foul from behind yeah yeah so Quan Hillman who got Turner County off to that hot start at the beginning of the quarter, misses the front end.
I see.
John, Here's an interesting thing.
Wilkinson County has ten fouls, so Turner now in the double bonus, you have to go inside.
You have to go inside each free throw from here on out.
It's a two point shot.
TILMON All eight of those points here in the third quarter, second free throw with 11.2.
No good there either misses both.
So it's still at nine Turner County trying to press to prevent a bucket by the end of the quarter.
War then pulls up and gets the jumper as time expires here in the third.
And that was big.
Yeah.
Third quarter of runs.
Wilkinson County had a double digit lead.
It was down to four.
And now after 24 minutes, it's back up to 11, 8 minutes to decide the class, a public title.
Wilkinson and Turner County.
When we come back to decide it all, the great GPB you welcome back to making Coliseum.
The score is 4938.
Wilkinson County is up just behind the Wilkinson County bench, and Coach Jaeger was telling him that they need to rebound, they need to be aggressive and they don't need to turn over the ball, he said.
The first 3 minutes of this fourth quarter is crucial for them to continue to be on top in this game and to come out with a state championship.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you very much.
Raven, 11 point game and we talked common opponent earlier in the day.
Portal has seen a lot of Turner County and they've seen a lot of Wilkinson County.
We talked to Jeff Brannon about game plans and if Wilkinson makes it a half court game, according to coach, they hit their free throws.
They've got the Duke here, they've got a box out and keep turning off the boards because right now this thing is still flying back and forth.
It's it's ebbs and flows all the way through with John to think his attorney is going to make sure you play in a transition game.
So even though you play the transition game, John, you don't have to take the first shot.
You can take your time and take the first open.
Good shot.
Again, we talked about it.
Bad shots are just like a turnover looking for the jumper rimmed out.
No, picked up by Turner County.
Let's see what they do in return.
Take it two points at a time.
20 seconds and down 11 trying to scramble and the inside knocked out of the paint.
Try to come out with it.
Wilkinson County back to Turner County.
Shut up and count it.
And the basket will go to Shaq Caldwell and then you go back to the last possession for Wilkinson County.
We talked about good shots and bad shots.
That best shot was just like a turnover.
And now Turner getting a chance to get a three point play and come to this nine point lead.
Greg cousin picks up his fourth foul third quarter free throws which are huge considering how it's getting Turner County back in the game.
Third quarter, Turner County, nine of 13 from the line.
Wilkinson only had one free throw in the third quarter.
If you turn it on.
It's not about winning this possession, it's about controlling the tempo of the game.
You can still go fast pace, but when you get the ball offensively, if you're Turner, you have to make smart, wise decisions and see what Wilkinson does here.
Almost doubled out was Derrick Trey high off the glass seemed a bit rushed out of bounds or is it a foul?
Looks like it's a foul call on Antonio Whipple and that would be his third and see the mindset.
Coach Cheatham wants his team to control the tempo of the game.
Make it a half court game here.
But the team is coming out, John and they're playing very fast.
Even though you beat the press, you don't have to score initially blocked as Turner County tries to go inside to cut it to seven, they've only made two of their last ten field goals since and that didn't help matters much.
Wilkinson coming back in transition and Nate Martin in trying to keep Tirico Simmons from getting to the basket got the reach it is part of his defense.
It's the key for Wilkinson County.
Protect the paint, protect the drive.
Patrick Protect the paint.
Great block from Wilkinson County And you saw Antonio Whipple get up not once but twice.
So if they had taken that shot and Whipple left his feet the first time, it could have been another trip to the foul line.
Well, he's a senior, John, and he knows he wants to go out in the bay, win in the state championship.
He's got to be effective on the defensive end.
Free throw no good, 5041 a minute, 15 in here in the fourth quarter class single-A public championship hanging in the balance three point attempt no good rebound picked up by Turner County at the top of the key Martin thought about it drives instead at the runner up the rim no good another missed opportunity Wilkinson county now being press turnover which is what Turner County wants spot up three rim no rebound inside yes well to Brad a missed shot is just like a pass Great offensive rebound great finish fourth time out now with Booker some counter and so now coach Kellogg is going to think about it in Ferguson and off of that basket you can press it and here we go from the steal Look at defense great pressure off the miss shot.
Good rotation for the steal again they're going to shoot the three Reddick still to get the offensive rebound John physically finished inside the paint every missed shot to him tonight is basically an open pass to him down low we saw coach Kellogg there's Dr. Jeter played his college basketball here at Mercer Wilkinson County 16 years coach Kellogg's been there before, took over for Dr. Eric Holland, who will see Saturday night as Chip County plays in the six eight Boys championship.
6 minutes to go, regulation up and down.
They're going to call jump ball.
He's heading back the other way.
And let's go back to a word that we can talk about as momentum.
Right.
It's creeping a little bit towards Turner right now.
It's creeping.
It's not there, but it's creeping.
If they can make a basket here and get into the lead, make it a five point game, I think momentum is going to go directly to two.
The Turner Turner Rivers and they've had it in the third quarter.
They had that momentum when they cut it to six and cut it before turnover kick out.
Match up Bad shot.
I hate to say it like that, young man, but that was a bad shot.
He was saved by his teammate.
You're up by seven points.
Take your time.
You don't need a bad fourth shot, especially three John in transition on TV as Jones continues his hot hand here in the second half.
Getting that bucket and here's your last bucket to a bad side in transition.
He was bailed out by his teammates good status down low but if you work as a county, John, you don't need those shots in transition.
Pull the ball out and control the tempo of the game.
Fish in the half court.
Jericho Simmons trying to create something on Tobias Jones now with 11 try to create saved out of bounds Wilkinson kind of gets it it's all hands trying to keep it from getting a clean possession for Wilkinson County and that continues it as Martin blocks the pass out of bounds.
Well, we talked about energy at the beginning of the game, John.
We talked about tempo of the game.
Both teams are going to play with a lot of passion, a lot of effort.
Finesse is thrown out of the window.
As Coach Jaeger told us earlier this week.
Deflections, deflect deflections.
Turner County, no surprise, they played 12 guys so far in this game.
Wilkinson County has played eight.
We've got a blocking foul called It's like on Quan Hillman.
That's Hillman.
That's his fourth teammate.
It's the fourth foul on Quan Hillman.
And that could come up huge considering the second half that he's had four turns down.
So Wilkinson's going to back it out and think about it for a while.
And this is smart, great coaching from Coach Jaeger.
He's been here before.
He's going for number seven.
We understand time and possession of the ball is very critical late in the game.
Putting it into Rico Simmons hands is a good decision.
Simmons now double teamed high and that's five on Hillman.
This single man had a great second half John you know he's had his fifth foul of the game.
He's had a great second half and played the turn away eight points for Hillman, fouls out with 447 to go regulation and that could come up huge because he's been one of the momentum guys here in the second half for Turner as they've mounted their comeback the first time and then their comeback the second time.
See if I'm trying to right now John Good Not in the bonus.
Go here and get the foul so he can get to the seven fouls and get the bonus.
And Clinton and Wilkerson at the free throw line real early here with 4 minutes left or take a turnover steps call bring it back the other way Kareem Sanders on the travel and I'm the Knicks made basket I'm turning that's going to call a quick timeout so we can set our defense and come up with a late surge game plan.
Juan Williams looking to drive nice high off the glass.
No miss time jumps you know this is on the inside and let's see if this is called on Kareem Sanders and that's four on Kareem Sanders.
Now.
So if Sanders Sanders is now going to have to watch it with four because of the depth of Wilkinson County not being what it is for Turner County, there was an early concern about granite that's gone away.
But Quan Hellman's fouled out.
Sanders now has four four Wilkinson counting graphics at the line misses both free throws.
He stays at 14, the margin still stays at nine.
As we come up halfway home here in the fourth quarter.
Another interception by Turner County.
Look on the drive and they're going to call a blocking foul on the drive through by Shaq Baldwin And that foul is going to go on Antonio Whipple so it's Whipple's for all the fouls and the foul and up and we still John have a little bit of a 4 minutes left here in the game doctor jitters leaving Antonio Whipple in for the moment first free throw rattles in to Shaq Baldwin he now has eight So like what coach Kellogg is doing he's setting the defense look for a timeout to make this free throw John look for a timeout there by trying to counter and see if he calls it here free throw up rimmed out no good.
One of two margins eight double team on the baseline and we're coming back the other way off the foul and that's not a bad foul John.
Now you're forcing them to be into the bonus and you got one of the worst because she was at the line.
So this is actually a good opportunity for Turner County because you can rebound now score two all possible from this free throw Antonio up at the foul line.
First free throw, no good picked up by Turner County.
Let's see what the rebels can do with it.
Halfway home here.
Fourth quarter class AA boys public the blue storm and the rebels going at it.
Who gets the title Jump shot.
RIM's no tip.
Braddock no out of bounds.
And where does it stay?
It's like it goes to Wilkinson County with 347 to go.
No surprise Turner County coming out man pressure given go for the easy come in a foul that time by Malik Brown is Derek Trey with one five yeah probably not the person that wanted the free throw line now if I'm Turner you don't want to put Trey weak at the free throw line because there's a nice stroke John Peel not needs to bend and it's the second for Malik Brown second foul front in there the one and one is good margin back to nine Yeah he sees the ball very very well and if you're going to foul somebody you want a foul one of the bigger post players and put Whipple possibly back in the free throw line Trey Alex second free throw good Trey with six for six from the foul line in this game once again changes Damon Holly and Malik Brown out for Turner County coming up on 340 to go margin back to double in ten on the drive they're going to call a foul on quantum here's Jones this first Jones his first foul and the buzz by so Shaq Baldwin to the free throw line now first free throw could be the way that Turner County can get back in the game John is score when the clock is stop But they can shoot themselves in the foot, shooting three point shots, second free throws rimmed out.
No he's got nine points stays it nine scramble underneath Wilkinson County coming out with it Heavy pressure and a foul on the drive and it looks like it's on credit so that's for now on Granik to in the ninth foul on Turner County here with 329 to go Trey trailing back to the free throw line first and then back to ten Still got time you still got Tom Jones a ten point game possibly 11 right now but you still got time but a minute and a half here into this next three and a half to go.
John is critical for Turner Willie Brown in graphic out with four fouls for his second free throw.
No good reminder Holly Sky's for the board.
Turner County trying to set up an offense quickly get the drive and it's blocked out of bounds by Trey Little and try to save it.
They're going to call a foul as he tried to get rid of it on the baseline.
Antonio Whipple But that's a match that you want to turn to.
John Attack the rim.
Attack the rim, Attack the rim.
Good defensive presence there by little good BLOCK Here's a recover and it's not a bad foul because now you force in their worst free throw shooter now to shoot a12 shot so he misses these two.
So John you still got a chance for a free throw good by Whipple So for the next 319, you're trading fouls for free throws to get possession back.
That's the mindset.
Yeah, that's the mindset.
You don't want the best free throw shooters at the line, but look at the counter.
Continue to capitalize, make those free throws.
John Then you know the game's going to be out of reach.
It's not about the three Shaq Baldwin driving teardrop count at the foul.
He's now got 11.
Let's see if the fouls on Whipple did not take the three which is smart the old fashioned three points again with the foul two and the clock to stop John.
That's good basketball here for Turner it's the fourth on Whipple rimmed out no good margin is ten Wilkinson County coming back passes two high Derek Trey tries to save it and Doctor Jeter's going to call a timeout as it was out of control in the corner.
So as he's being rather animated, we're going to talk to you about what's going on here at Georgia.
Public broadcaster Stan.
One of our signature programs here on GPB is Georgia Traveler.
This season, the Traveler Crew, David Zalewski et al, take you to some of the scenic getaways, embark on a few high adrenaline adventures and, of course, dive into some of the best restaurants the Peach State has to offer, never sharing it with Shawn Golden or myself.
All That and much, much more.
Do not miss Georgia traveling on the great GPB.
All the food, all the food and places, you know, they never get anywhere.
Here's your quick county foul trouble.
That's a lot of fours.
A lot of fours, John.
And we'll look at some county.
It's okay to be aggressive, but you have to play smart and defensive and force the outside shot.
So what I'll do Wilkinson defensively be a little bit more patient you know tough credit he's got four fouls that's okay but for Wilkinson County John be patient defensively What I mean by that, make your defense a little bit tighter.
Force the outside shot and secure the rebounds.
You can't allow Turner to come in and continue to beat you and dominate the offensive glass, secure the defensive rebound John hit you free throws and Lucas he kind of goes home with the championship.
So then does Turner County drive a lot more than they may have been doing so far with all those scores in the foul trouble?
Well, you're going to try to drive again, but they're not shooting the three point well.
So when they shoot up the three point, it's more of a hope shot.
They're hoping the shot goes in.
Go to your bread and butter and try to get to the basket into the rim.
With the drive to Wilkinson County players fighting for it, Trey Little ends up with it fouled from behind by Kwon sending Trey little to the line again.
Oh you see John's here's an interesting stat yeah Turner one for from the three point line but here's a bigger stat 12 to 26 from the free throw line first free throw up and good So they're playing with so much energy.
They play a helter skelter basketball.
Defensively, they are playing out of control offensive rebounds right now, 22 to 8 for Turner Foul Well they're not shooting the ball well, so eventually they're going to get more offensive rebounds.
Second free throw good back to 12 it's 5947 just under 3 minutes to go pop up and down.
They don't call a whistle there.
I guess they call contact and contact.
They're on it.
And the foul Zach Baldwin for two and it looks like they might call Trey look for the foul They're again John scoring when the clock is stopped the old fashioned way three point play.
The Easter Bunny came here early this year with the bunny hop.
That was a great no call on the official.
The fans did understand it.
Great finish for the three point play Hit the rim and there's your foul and that graphic that we showed you about a minute ago about all those scores you can now add Derek, Trey Wick to that Trey, it now has four fouls.
They're going to call steps on the inbounds, trying to get some kind of possession turnover to Turner County.
Radic back in.
Lucas is going to win this one or two ways done.
Number one defensively contain basketball force the outside shot number two defensive rebound Nate Martin off the call Zach Baldwin Nate Martin working the outside There goes Baldwin again baseline just throws it up They're going to call a block and you see who that's on Juan Tobias Jones It's Jones second foul Dr.
Genius looking for a travel ball didn't get it Once again, clock stops free throw line.
Exactly.
And that's the way that Turner wants school when the clock to stop put it through Wilkerson County, give up the open shot back, give them more cushion outlet you shoot outside shot John you one for 16 from the three it's okay to allow the three point shot for Turner Baldwin is 11 point here in the quarter and now has 15 second free throw margins to seven at 234 pressure pressure pressure in the steps again.
Now, John, here's what little coaching comes into play if you Wilkerson county on the free throws offensively you want to go offense with your best ball handlers in the game defensively you can have your best defensive guys in the game try to pass it in to erratic deflected turns into a jump ball situation stays with Wilkinson County are they going to call a foul instead?
It's like a following a foul.
He's possession is key for both teams seven point lead with 225 to go John eats possession is a key Juan Williams second foul to Rico Simmons and that's only his eighth point of the day but he's doing a great job, John, of handling the basketball.
He's doing a fantastic job.
He's got two turnovers versus this.
He'll just get to pressure.
So I think he's doing a great job of controlling the tempo of the game.
Averages 20.
He only has eight shot up and in it looks like they're going to call Simmons for the foul in the drive by Turner down he will trade two for one all day any time you've got to control the ball especially in transition knowing that the team's to drive to the basket and when you're pressing him so far away from the basket, John, you open up the door for the defense to drive.
You've got to contain the basketball, keep the ball on the perimeter, forcing three point shot fouls on Jericho.
Simmons Free throw no good rebound picked up by Wilkinson County triple teamed in the pyramid in the corner trying to dribble out with it but they're going to call up block on Turner County this time and come back down to the other end at 217 Jericho Simmons to the line Turner County trading fouls four free throws to stop the clock Any time you can score when to stop when the clock to stop John that's good The unfortunate thing from Turner they're shooting below 50% from the free throw line so the game plan is an effective if they hit maybe half of those free throws.
John we have a tie game.
The second free throw rimmed out as well miss them both coming up on 2 minutes to go out of control once again Simmons easy layup Turner County back pace continues to be frantic They have to make up the two they lost just trying to throw it up and see if they can get continuation Can't be a bail out call there John The offense was out of control going to them, going to the rim but good defense great looking head pass great finish there for four Simmons But again this team has to do a better job of hitting three plays They don't get free throws John all of this is a moot point we'll be talking about with the game plan for Turner third foul on Quin Tobias Jones erratic sets Nate Martin to the line.
Second free throw good down to seven under 2 minutes to go pressing almost got the interception there Wilkinson has numbers three on two jumper rims out no saved but on the save out of bounds by Holli Carrico Simmons and a mauling at midcourt intentional foul and that's the way Turner plays John it looked like a very aggressive unnecessary foul but that's the way that Turner plays and sometime within this game, John, that type of foul was going to happen.
That's just the way Turner plays.
So but again, time he scores, you're down by seven points with a minute 46 to go go for the steal And there's DeAndre Pearce with the bulldog on Kwon Tobias Jones I mean that was a great tackle headlock and a bulldog that was a fantastic touch in the open field.
One more time right there very intentional foul called and that could be huge with 105 seconds.
Well what it does now on the officials, John, now the game is back into their hands.
An ill advised foul from Turner.
The official now has to call it.
If it looks like a foul, the official has to call it against Turner because they want to get control and maintain control of the game.
Now they're talking to both coaches.
Coach Kellogg's pleading his case on one end, Dr. Jitters talking to his team on the other.
Dr. Jr wants to make a substitution.
Looks like Derrick trailer is going to come back in.
Antonio Whipple is probably out so the free throws now off the intentional foul miss the first that was an open opportunity for Wilkerson County to really put a dent a huge dent into this league second free throw by Jones short and off the rim again.
I think this should be a okay John.
I think it should be a second set of free throws with the foul and the intention of foul.
So I think the officials missed that.
That was should have been a ten at the foul plus two free throws.
There's another foul on Juan Williams you saw the numbers of the free throws 30 free throws attempted in the quarter third on Juan Williams to Rico Simmons to the line and see what goes to John so much emotion He's really missed that opportunity because that should have been the technical foul two free throws and the ball would settle down margin back to eight Simmons averaging 20 has 11 been kept in check on the scoresheet second free throw good margin back to nine at 100 seconds Turner County comes down in a hurry Jumper off the glass no scramble to the boards knocked out of bounds is going to stay with Turner can if Wilkerson kind of has some kind of zone John I'm playing right now forced to outside shot don't worry about man to man.
Let Turner play on the perimeter.
Martin had it lost it, hands it off banked the three pointer there by DeAndre Pierce timeout called by Coach Kellogg down to his six point game again at 86 seconds.
I think he was watching LeBron James of the night hitting that bank three shot at the end again the shot does go in call a timeout there for turning off the ball off the glass.
But again, John, I would allow that to instead of them getting to the basket, forcing the foul and score from the free throw line, just not what you want if you look at the count because Wilkinson count he's got a lot of fours, a lot of foul trouble possibilities Turner County Braddock has four, Wilkinson County has four players with four fouls.
So Turner County has some opportunities here.
If they can take advantage, dribble, drive, penetration, kick out and crashing the boards like they have been here in the fourth to get it to 6458.
Well you got it you got to foul quickly you want to deny the ball.
First of all try to get a steal off the inbounds.
If you don't get that trap it look for the reverse trap and the steal and then the quick foul here in the fourth quarter.
Simmons handling the basketball way up high Derrick Trey with and a foul there on him on Holley and will be his first time and Jones just missed those last two free throws so this could be huge how the game could finish up Jones just had a big second half makes the first all 12 of those points so far have been in the second half for Fantasia's big player off the bench for Wilkinson County misses the second seven point margin in 70 seconds.
What does Turner County do here?
Baldwin Long three off the mark Baldwin crashes the boards trying to get the rebound off the glass up and in catch at the five with a minute didn't he got what you wanted defensively for three point shot but now you've got to finish out the play defensively John and secure the defensive rebounds.
BALDWIN With 18 and take a look at it one more time 14 in the quarter For both of them, it's been huge.
Again, the play falls in second to Wilkinson County wants for the outside shot, but you just can't stop there with the missed shot.
John.
You've got to secure the defensive rebound box, boxing out is something that a lot of high school players, John, will understand, nor do they want to do is the little things that's going to win the big championship.
Kareem Sanders with four fouls Greg Cousins for up on Tobias Jones with three Turner County pressing off the inbounds There's a foul by Juan Williams penalty his fourth rave in Toronto What's up the Turner County bench and listening to coach he was saying stay with number ten make sure you keep pressure on him if he even gets the ball, then obviously, as you see, they're going to foul and put him on the line.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you.
Raven Canterbury is Jones.
He's got he's the guy in the bullseye right now.
Made the first let's see the second guy John is Sanders is taking the ball out and getting the back and handling.
So you got those two guys that you can foul if you turn counting.
But at the same time, John, you go back to their free throw shooting.
If they had hit their free throws, John, then this could be a different outcome tonight.
13 seven run right now for Turner 58 seconds.
It's a two possession game for the rebels.
MARTIN Looking to drive, gets the glass rebounds, stick back up and in it's now a four point game at 47.6.
Looks like Coach Kellogg is going to take a full looks like they have three left after this one.
So let's take a look at the bucket again.
Attack of the rim, turn it down.
Attacking the rim in the half halfcourt and a steal.
Don't understand why Wilkinson County is not being some mindset of this contain the paint offensive rebound attacking the paint offensive rebound and with this accounting just not doing it on the defensive end John to finish out this game Kareem Sanders being careful in the paint keep an eye on 33 blue Sanders has four.
Juan Tobias Jones has three.
So the situation in the paint for Wilkinson County could be dicey when it comes to collecting fouls foul there.
No surprise DeAndre Pierce picks another one.
It'll be his third.
By the way, we want you to stay in touch with us for the entire weekend.

Bunch of different ways to stay in touch with us.
And we want to hear what you're talking about.
We want to know what you think about the championships here in Macon.
A bunch of different ways to do social media here on GPB fourth quarter free throws.
Wilkinson 13 of 23 in the quarter, missed them both 13 of 24 in the quarter.
Turner County 7 to 1340 seconds, four point game, Turner County trying to find a way into the paint.
Three pointer long rimmed out no picked up Baldwin scrambled for picked up throw away three off rim no good Turner County throwing up stuff nothing stick and 25 seconds into the paint Reddick rimmed out now second chance knocked out of bounds at 20 194 opportunities for Turner County and they get nothing done.
Offensive rebounding and goal penetration.
The two things we've talked about entire second half if Wilkinson Kennedy can't control the ball let the Alsace out happen and then offensive rebound.
The game's over.
Here's the series one more time.
Talk me through it.
Offensive rebound.
Not a bad side.
Not a bad side.
Hit a three earlier from the same spot again one offensive rebound two offensive rebounds I think we got another one coming.
Here's Braddock.
Three offensive rebounds someone saying good from the same guy.
That's got to be a point of emphasis.
You have to rebound again.
I don't care who has four, four fouls right now, John, with 21 seconds to go here in the game, I'm putting my best rebounders in the game and controlling the paint.
Let the outside shot happen.
We've got to secure the defensive rebound.
DeAndre Pierce had his first two opportunities and Dragic on the third on the inside 21.9.
Each team with a timeout remaining.
Wilkinson County up for Turner County on the inbound they've hit one of their last six only six of 21 from the floor in the quarter all the way back out.
Pierce makes the three easy drive to the paint act and they'll go to the line.
The beautiful thing about this shot John, is great setup great setup.
Pierce hit the one three earlier missed the last one.
Good shot Flea getting to the rim now they've got a chance to score on the clock stopped and Kareem Sanders is done.
Picked up his fifth foul there.
Ten points, six rebounds.
Picked up his fifth foul.
And now he brings in Gregg Cousins.
Dr. Jeter does.
And Cousins is on four fouls right now at 18.8.
Here's a great scenario, John.
If he hits both of these free throws, do not call it timeout.
You turn set the defense with a substitution.
Now you can set your defense and force the offense to be under control with depression, but do not call it timeout.
First free throw by DeAndre Pierce.
No good.
Still a two possession game.
Second free throw looks long and it's stuck.
Possession to Wilkinson county two free throws missed with 18.8.
The official reminding Juan Tobias Jones that he is stuck to his spot.
He cannot run the baseline and that's huge because the pressure that turn is going to exert right now, John, is huge.
Watch for the long pass.
But again, the baseline is huge.
Stationary bounce pass, almost intercepted knocked out of bounds and stays with Wilkinson at 17.8.
Coach Kellogg reminding him on Holly to stay inbounds but use your hands double team in the corner jump ball goes to Turner County.
Wow.
Great turnover.
Big step for Turner.
Great turn on the bench Now he's getting his offensive guys in the groove.
If they can score right here John now you get a timeout.
Great presence of mind by Amon Holley just to go for the basketball and see what understand John in that corner you've got the two defenders plus he got out of bounds on both sides so you got four defenders basically around you inbound Nate Martin for off of the rim no good Braddock up and he's fouled Derrick Trey Wick picks up another foul and he's done again.
The office did exactly what you want it done They set the three point shot defensively you didn't finish the plate by securing the defensive rebound.
It's the same story here in the fourth quarter for Turner.
But the crux again goes, John, they're not hitting their free throws as well to Trey, which finishes with nine fouls out at 13.4.
Fire wagon change for Turner County, four in four out except for grad pick the free throw shooter and it looks like he's going to get subbed after the free throws are made.
If he can make these two free throws.
John the is on Wilkes and Tony.
But again, the big word is if he can make these figures.
Braddock's first no the lid on that basket John is as tight as I've ever seen 14 Braddock has missed his last three from the line two for five on the game.
Second free throw at 13.4.
Turner all set to crash the boards with fresh fouls and fresh body second free throw off the back of the rim No good Imani Holley up and in.
Here's your look There's the miss.
Same story, same result.
Offensive rebound by Turner Chance for a three point play Holly and Malik Brown crash the boards and there's Turner County looking at it Damon Holly can cut it to one with 11.4 again John to go back to the one thing free throws.
The foul was on Greg cousin cousin has fouled out now for Wilkinson as well free throw short scramble for and Wilkinson County at 10.3.
Here's a chance call timeout if I'm trying to call a timeout set to defense call it timeout reminder to stay stationary for the inbounds good ball and a foul good call good call He held it in the entire way That was a great call from the official.
At the same time, John, there's not a lot of time off the clock so you need to look at the clock because it should be 9.6 to go now here's your luck deflected and where was the foul?
Coach Kellogg is asking that question.
It shouldn't be that much time that the clock should not have run down that much because a foul was actually traded, John.
And it happened before the ball in at play arena clock says 9.9.
So a half a second came off the clock.
Tirico Simmons at the line in a two point game First free throw no shift change for Turner County once more bodies, bodies and fouls to Rico Simmons to make it a three point game at 9.9 journeys in one possession game the thumb Turner I'm attacking the rim gets easily up and call the timeout second free throw Got it now get up the floor in a hurry Wilkinson County leading by three There's your timeout 5.8 to go regulation.
I'll go ahead and say it Turner County never shy about the three one for 16 on the night ten for nine in the playoffs 5.8 seconds to go What do you do you hope the three goes in you hope the three because John is not said, is on the clock.
You cannot dribble four links of the court.
They're not going to foul you going to the basket.
So I would have taken the layup right then.
Probably would have had 4.2 on the clock.
But I give myself to have a one point game and then force them to get on the free throw line, call a timeout out of the basket.
The only option you have now is one shot and that one shot is going to be a three.
So you had a chance for a double possession with the tech in transition.
Now all you have is one shot and that's it has to be a three point shot here at the end.
Nate Martin, DeAndre Pierce, the only ones who hit threes in this game for Turner County.
Pierce, the one who called banked Nate Martin one for four on the night Turner County chasing after their first title since Class B in 1963, Wilkinson County chasing after their seventh under Dr. Aaron Jeter inbound Nate Martin spins thought about it pocket picked out bounds Wilkinson's got it.
The emotion that both of these teams played with John is shown in this entire play.
Loose balls, loose balls.
Then you see players on the floor So much emotion played in this game John down here to 1.5 left Lucas and counting now has a chance to seal the deal One timeout left for Wilkinson counting but a foul before the ball was inbound.
It will send for Rico Simmons to the line and see it wasn't a bad played there John out of time out that was a catch and shoot opportunity.
All right here's what happened and here's after the timeout.
Great play.
You have to take the shot.
You have to take the shot.
You only get 5 seconds without the shot.
Now, that's a turnover.
Now Lucas County has a chance to make two free throws in the game.
Technical foul called on Turner County to text call on Turner County.
So it looks like Tirico Simmons might be pitching a chance at the foul line for a while.
They called one tech, then they called another.
Well, John, we talk about emotion.
Both teams play with a lot of emotion because of their style of play.
But you've got to learn how to control that emotion, especially here towards the end of the game, Simmons gets the first.
That should do it.
Dr. Jeter punches the air, makes it a four point game.
Stat sheet works right now Simmons rims out.
Here's second batch of technical fouls makes the first made three out of four.
Here's the other round.
Okay so the first two or the foul on Tirico Simmons and the technicals to follow so he makes five and six to make an eight point game Wilkinson County going to use their last time out with 1.5 and John what a hard fought game for Turner with a hard fought game for Wilkerson County.
Yep it was a it was a pleasure to watch this game Brownsville, because it was so much chaos in the beginning.
John We didn't know what direction, but as the game came down, it became defense.
It became controlling the ball and would go back to right keys.
John Yeah, If you focus on the keys, limit your turnovers.
And Lucas County did that in the end and it took good shots.
Turner They played with a lot of energy.
They won the hustle stats.
But the thing that hurt Turner was they had free throws and their lack of shooting.
They shot under 50%, under 10% from the three point line, under 50% from the free throw line.
He can't win any championship.
We don't shoot the ball well.
Wilkinson County, 19 of 32 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Those of you looking for on the story will not be on tonight because of the basketball championships.
Wilkinson County gets their seventh state title, second in class AA public doctor Aaron Jeter gets his seventh championship 99 2000 0207 2011 2013 and now in 2014 ten Final Fours.
And he continues to build a tremendous pedigree and continue traditions in Irwin's and let's send it over to Raven with the coach Southern State title.
I'm not going to ask you where it ranks, but how special is this one?
What it was just like I told you at halftime, it's about surviving and our kids fallen.
They survived this number seven.
So it's going back down Highway 57.
There was a coach we talked about the ups and downs earlier this season.
If could describe this journey, how would you describe it has just just been hard nosed.
I mean, the kids just kept hanging in there with me and I'm hanging in with them, just a hard nosed fight.
And they got it done.
At the end of the day.
Well, Coach, congratulations.
Thank you so much.
Back over to you, John.
Thank you, Raven, very much.

Congratulations to both teams.

Go ahead.
On behalf of Georgia Farm Bureau, congratulations.
Congratulations.
Coach Skinner, as you raise that high, let me just say one word.
Repeat, Reed, Pee wee pee pee pee.
All right, Let's talk to one of your players.
Trey, you're one of the co-captains of this team.
Talk about being a senior and winning back to back state championship.
Oh, it's a blessing.
God blessed us with a chance to go back to bat as we give all the glory to God for a dream.
It was a wild finish.
Talk about those final 30 seconds.
All I can say is my God is awesome because I like I said, there's a lot about that.
Coach, talk a little bit about your program down there, the seven championships back to back here in 2013 and 14.
I mean, I tell everybody in Erwin, ten Georgia basketball has been good since the sixties and.
I've been blessed enough to come in and follow behind David Moore and coaches of that nature, and they expect us to win.
So I'm glad our guys work hard to step up to those expectations.
