Live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta is the Class C State semifinal.
The Panthers of Clinch County take on the Hopkinsville Red Devils.
And good morning, everyone, and welcome.
I'm John Wilkerson.
As we begin our second day of high school football coverage here on TV.
And what we have in store is a heavyweight match up in class.
single-A Clinch County in Hopkinsville met last year in the state semifinals and Larry Prater, like any good heavyweight championship or any good heavyweight battle, there's always a rematch.
And that's what we have today.
Both teams have intimidating defenses.
Nice.
Don't carry one of these teams to the state championship.
The trigger man for the Clinch County State champions, Joe Lewis Mingo number seven, that special 1045 yards, nine touchdowns on the season.
He's the trigger man.
He makes it happen for the rent upon the Panthers.
Their tailback, Lorenzo Kelso of 1302 yards.
He was big last year, 222 yards last year, 88 yards.
Every time he touched about 26 touchdowns.
And let's hear from Clutch County head coach Cecil Barber.
Well, offensively, we're going to come out in our formation and we're going try to run between the tackles.
We also use our quarterback and tailback be the option, and we also like to spread it out and run what we call some two minute offense where we like to get our best free or our best special people on the corners and throw the ball down the field, work the ball down the field that our quarterback, if they back off with our receivers, let our quarterback go to work, moving the ball.
Joe Mingo, which is been a great quarterback, done a lot of things for us and our tailback is also back from last year which was an all state tailback and we put the ball in his hands as many times as we possibly can.
And defensively we're going to run a five to attack defense.
We're going to come get you before you you get going.
Well, the Hopkinsville Red Devils enjoyed their first undefeated regular season in 49 years.
And Larry, they came to the dome last year, left a bad taste in their mouth.
But they're hoping that this year they have a better showing.
They're not going to be intimidated.
They've got a tremendous leader in their quarterback, Todd Coley.
Here he is with 1800 yards, 25 touchdowns on the season, only six interceptions, just a junior.
But he's a great leader.
But during the course of the game, you're going to see Charles Johnson, number 42, all over the football field on offense and defense.
They move him around to use his all-American ability.
And let's hear from Hopkinsville head coach Lee Campbell.
And offensively, we run out of the program.
We will get in the shotgun and we'll go from one bye.
But we're going to try to run the ball out of all of our formations, because we've got over 2300 yards rushing.
We've also got close to 2000 passing.
So we like to say we're pretty balanced, but we like to throw when we want to instead of when we need to, just like everybody else.
And defensively we run our base defense for three, but we'll jump down into the 51 with Lance when the need arises.
And we just we fly around the football and try to play very hard and get great pursuit.
And now let's hear from the third member of our crew down the field with a very special guest, Gerald Olivieri.
Good morning, Gerald.
Good morning.
We're here with Governor Sonny Perdue, governor for new.
This is a great event for high school football.
This have been right here means as much as if not more to some of these kids is the actual championship.
Now, you actually played high school football.
What would this event have meant to you when you were playing.
Out of dad to come to the Dome and play in Atlanta.
Here?
It's it's amazing for the fans and the communities that are able to do this.
This is this is big time and playing in such a wonderful facility and watching them and the part that public broadcasting does, deep TV and being able to see our teams from home when those it can't go.
It's a it's an excellent production, very professional.
And it's one of the better things that we do.
Now, you also played college football at UGA under Vince Dooley.
How has athletics helped form you into the position that you're at now?
Well, athletics, I call it the game of life.
And what these kids are learning under these coaches right now will go with them throughout life.
It tells them to persevere, to give their best, to respect their teammates, to work together, and they can achieve more.
And that's those are the lessons of life that I think team sports you it's.
The what the coaches core to the hearts these kids and inspire them is absolutely thrilling.
Last question now I have to ask you, are you calling for any particular team this weekend?
I'm pulling for all the winners.
No, these folks are from home.
I came back to see some friends here.
But, you know.
We've got great competition.
And really there are really no losers out here to beat to make it to this level.
Everybody can go home with their head held high, but thanks a lot for do.
Thank.
Back up to you, Don.
Thank you, Gerald.
Well, the governor is here, Clinch Counties here.
Hawkins was here.
We should have an outstanding game.
And the class single state semifinal, we'll kick it off when we come back.
And welcome back to the Georgia Dome, John Wilkerson, Larry Fraser, Gerald, all a very to get set to kick off this class single semifinal rematch between Hopkinsville and Clinch County.
They met last year with Clinch County shutting out Hopkinsville.
And there the Hopkinsville Red Devils.
They've been looking forward to this rematch.
When it came to fruition last week, Clinch County, they're on a mission to defend their title, Larry.
They are the king.
King of class-A football, The Road to the Dome, Clinch County.
Look at those stats.
Tremendous defense.
They've only given up 43 points on the regular season, number one defense in the state of Georgia.
And they struggled a.
Bit against Calvary Baptist and Landmark Christian, but they were able to overcome, like any good championship team would.
Great chemistry, great poise that we've seen all weekend here at the Georgia Dome.
Do you know this?
Clinch County looks a little peek at this course.
17 of these kids have had the flu over the last week and a half.
Coach Barber is tremendously concerned.
Concerned, yes.
On how they can you know, how they can overcome this this flu virus and having the kids hydrated on this football field is Kamara.
You saw a lot of cramping yesterday in the bowl games, so he's getting a lot of water in them for the.
Loss and the cramps.
Not the best parts of our high school football running through the banner.
So couple shots at both those banner and here from the Hopkinsville Red Devils undefeated their first undefeated season since 1954, 49 years.
Bobby Jeffrey with the coach.
This is a program in the fifties for the state power here from the defending state champion Cook County Panthers fired up their third trip to the dome.
They lost a few four two years ago, defeated Hopkinsville last year.
And they're back for the third straight appearance.
And the Hopkinsville fans are here in full force coming up from Pulaski County.
They know the route very well from Hopkinsville.
To the Georgia Dome.
In the end, it's just tremendous noise.
Looking at the Red Devils Road, they look at that defense to shut out one touchdown Thomas scored Charles Johnson are all Americans batted down the patty they do not want to allow anyone to score intimidating big.
Fans got up there and they played a very good commerce team and beat them down.
And Bobby Gentry's stadium.
Both of these teams have won three state championships, John.
So this is going to be the call to see who can get the get that hat trick and take it back home.
The winner this game will host the state championship game, Lincoln County, everybody in Lincoln County, you know, has got it team in and see.
Who they're going to play.
Very interesting.
Lee Campbell, head coach of Hopkinsville.
We'll get to his story later.
What a tremendous score.
Oh, they're starting to look that up here at the dome, Larry, as Hopkinsville back, hoping to make a better showing Clinch County.
Well.
Their mission is pretty simple.
They want to defend their state championship.
Now, Clinch County won the toss and elected to the first team Hopkinsville Road.
See.
This is the fourth time that they played each other clinch County won the first time Paul Canfield won the second clinch won last year.
Here, sit down 36 to nothing little bit of revenge back for Huntsville.
So this is the hat trick who helps us with this Hopkinsville turn to win.
But Clinch County is going to have a lot to say about that.
And they're the state champions until somebody beats them for it.
They've lost one football game on the season, tied one.
Don't let that deceive.
Those were two.
Tremendous football games early in the season against very, very, very worldly playoff opponents here at the Georgia.
Dome as well.
Stephen Hodges will kick off for Clinch County.
Jeremy Marshall and Charles Johnson back deep for Hopkinsville.
This is a game I've been looking forward to since the matchup was set, a heavyweight match up between these two teams.
It's underway and Charles Johnson will receive at the 50.
Looking for see to see the 20 and he's knocked out of bounds there by the Cook County special team whistle Robinson now take a look at.
Hopkinsville quarterback Todd Coley he was harassed last year never got on track but he came his come back for the 2003 season with an outstanding year.
Over seven.
Thousand 800 yards passing.
And now the information.
Hawkins will start out it's Marshall he's had a backfield and thrown for a loss.
Darian Thomas flies in there and knocks down Marshall.
The offensive line, the anchors of that offensive line of the two tackles, Brandon Perry and Trey Duncan, 25 and 275, respectively.
Jeremy Marshall, is there key back over 1800 yards rushing this year.
On second down along it's Marshall again and he's here at the.
Line of scrimmage.
And driven back by a clutch county defense to have come out fired up.
Matt Duprey on the staff here's the defense for Clutch County and they're a good one look for Boris Lee.
He's a very active defensive lineman.
In fact, this clutch guy defense loves to play the attack style defense.
Jarvis Henderson is one of their leaders with 99 tackles, and the secondary is led by B.J.
Richardson and Dexter Foster.
On third and more.
They call it the Marshall Marshall hard line, and he can run for a long time, just short of midfield up the football.
But it's ruled not a fumble.
It's the crown caused the fumble all the way out to.
The 47 yard line.
Coach Campbell saying he was going to run right at him, that he was not going to be intimidated.
Replay, John, look at this speed loses balance.
Just a sophomore.
He just came out of nowhere.
Well, he replaced the guy named Elijah Clark that got he got 1800 yards.
Yeah, definitely.
John Graham calls the fumble, right?
Pelt first and ten and Hopkinsville driving on the first possession Poeltl first pass of the game and it's complete the David Smith and Smith gets across the 45 post to the first down.
Lamar McKnight there along with Dexter Foster.
Dexter is six forward so this ball game is going to come down both teams have tall receivers and it's going to come down to some type of a mismatch.
They're going to get their speed against someone that's not quite as fans are going to get a taller receiver against a shorter defensive back mismatches during the course of the game.
That's going to determine the winner here.
Second down and four forward.
Hands it off.
Antoine Thomas, the fullback across the 45 post the first down.
Just Clinch County defense John only gives up 43 yards rushing in the whole game.
They were the number one defense in the state of Georgia this year.
Player say they only gave up 4.3 points per game.
And third down and one for Hopkinsville and they call him in the backfield.
Jevon Williams John two.
Hundred and £10 junior.
And this is a type of defense that plays counting plays is what Coach Barber has always taught aggressive they're coming this is not a hit in a read defense they're going to hit you in the mouth, in the in the backfield.
They're going to blow up the play immediately.
Dedrick Smith Back to front.
Lamar McKnight Back deep for Clinch County, a nice high kick and McKnight will field it at the 15 got a bounds at the 16 and that's what Crunch.
County will take over.
And we'll get a first look at Joe Louis Mingo.
They call him down in.
South Georgia, the high school Michael Vick.
And this guy can do it all.
It completes 50%, 56% of his passes.
So a thousand yards past nine touchdowns for John.
He's a he's just a smooth, so smooth.
He's got deceptive speed and he's very patient.
He likes to wait for the hole to open up when he does play, he is called upon to run and then he's so quick he's able to elude the defensive line.
There in the shotgun.
Coach Barber said he was going to be running done.
He was going to go down the field in a hurry, that he wanted to set the tempo early.
And if Lorenzo fell foul, picking up where he left off last year, 1221 yards and he gets close to the first down run down by Charles Johnson.
This defense gives up seven points per game during the regular season.
The offensive line for Clinch County, they're a big athletic line and not as good as last year, according to Coach Barber, but they've done a good job improving Lorenzo Kelso.
We saw him carry the ball.
Lamar McKnight is a big play receiver.
He should be getting some touches along with Dexter Foster.
It's first and ten after the ten yard gain by Lorenzo Kelso.
It's A Keeper by Joe Lewis.
They go to short of the 30 yard line now to.
The 29 Antoine Thomas on the tackle the defense of Hopkinsville and this is a strong group led by Charles Johnson who plays for college football at Georgia.
That linebacking corps is really the strength.
Antoine Thomas leads the team in tackles with 92, has three quarterback sacks and the LaFalce Anderson in the secondary.
He leads the team with nine interceptions.
It's a secondary that likes to take advantage of the forward pass and likes to knock down passes.
Shotgun again.
John second down and eight and of course, Mingo a stop, by the way, to score with Antoine Thomas.
Antoine was All-State last year.
Look how look the speed number ten will flash all of a sudden tremendous speed.
92 tackles on the season.
That's his fourth sack on the season, too.
I made all state this Hopkinsville defense John in the playoffs is only given up one and a half points per game.
It's a tremendous defense.
And brings up third down and 11 as you go to trade.
Josh Johnson throws him down.
Chuck Johnson search hauls all-American football player, all state basketball player What.
An athlete with those arms.
He's quick.
He's fast.
For a guy his size.
They say he might be a better basketball player than a football.
Well, UGA Bulldogs fans will be wearing the red and black as he's already verbally committed to the dogs.
63 tackles on the.
Year interception 14 sacks Mike Smith Dean there they play him all over the football field they move him around.
You got to you got to account for him every time you love him.
Offense and defense.
Hopkinsville.
Will play it back to Hawkins.
Rosa Farris, Anderson, he got the 45 fumble, fumbled the football, took out.
He may have it big turnover and Clint County has the ball and a big turnover in Hooks County gets the first big break of the game.
Justin Gainey on the Recovery.
And there's Anderson.
What he did.
You saw that here Darron Thomas sprint slapping coach and good coaching.
A big break for the Clinch County Panthers.
First and ten.
At the Hopkinsville 45.
The shotgun and Mingo dancing now looking to throw and the pass is stopped in the fourth Anderson makes up for his fumble and gets off to a 47 yard line.
Coach Barber from Plains County knows all about turnovers and big football games and field position.
But he believes in gambling.
He believes in putting the football in the air.
That ball is tipped.
Dexter Foster was the intended receiver and he had his hands on it.
Larry little high under center drift Joe Mingo had something a little bit too much Doris.
Duke it out Cody on the option pitches the most on He's caught for big lots Ontario royal sound.
John Marshall.
These defenses unbelievable are what I mean it's just speed speed speed you win championships on defense and these are two state championship defenses right here.
It's going to be a shame that one of these teams will have to go home.
Never seen spitting and then intimidating or hitting each other early on.
There's no don't mind us.
This is just pure out intimidation.
Two teams have done it before, second and 19.
Here comes coach again.
And Karl is thrown down again to Jarvis Henderson eight quarterback sacks on the year for.
Henderson He gets another one and I'm sure Todd College now starting to feel deja vu because a year ago there you see Jarvis Anderson 99 tackles on the year 18 for a loss eight sacks he got another one and last year this attacking style defense again the.
Offensive line of Hawkins film that it seems to be happening again and Yellow County five on third and.
27.
Going to have to do more of that.
Coach Lee Campbell, his play calling going to have to go.
One, two, three, go on.
First down, do something to slow down this defense.
Before the snap.
Also on the defense.
Just Clinch County defense, John gives up 55 yards a game average with five yard gain passing, but the teams get behind in the half to pass that only two five yards.
This is the number one defense in the state.
And you see why.
30, 22 and Jeremy Marshall has the opening Marshall Turner 32.
He's been their big play guy so far, Larry.
He came out of nowhere, just a sophomore, £160.
And they knew he was a pretty good little football player, but they had no idea.
He was so tremendous.
And he has been a fine.
32 yard pick up by Jeremy Marshall.
Oh, he's fast.
Over 1800 yards rushing to lead the team, 22 touchdowns.
They say he runs a four.
Or 540.
And here we go.
A defensive timeout breaks down he calls timeout always usually time outs on defense.
350 to go and the first half.
Just two touchdowns Saban tackles from Lamar McKnight already in this first quarter John this Lamar he was here last year.
Well mark your calendar for 49 January 30th for the return of Georgia's longest running high school sports in academics program prep sports plus, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, academic athletic program and much more.
That's prep sports plus returning on Friday, January 30th at 11 p.m. exclusively on TV.
It's been my first full year with the press and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Look forward to many more years with that program.
John Lamar McKnight I was looking at his stats.
He runs a four for 40.
He's got four kickoff returns, four touchdowns and two punt return.
So later on in the game, McNabb is going to be a part of this game in his kick returns.
And you remember Lamar McKnight caught that touchdown pass at the end of the first half against Hopkinsville.
It really swung the momentum toward Clinch County and led to that.
The shutout.
Now the formation Hopkinsville first and ten to the hunt back.
Jeremy Marshall He'll get to the 30 maybe a yard.
Coach Campbell I think has has figured it out.
We're going to run right at him.
When you start going east and west, there's just too much speed, there's too much penetration.
But we'll hit and pick a hole.
And if you'll notice, he's run in layup off left hook behind Brandon Perry six forward £285 left tackle number 70.
He may be the best athlete on the football field.
He's just a junior, but he's already the Division one prospect, £285.
I'll tell you why.
He's a best athlete on the field.
Most likely both those tackles for Hawkins are outstanding young men as well.
And 1/2 down Marshall and get to the 28 yard line.
Athletic right down by John Williams.
Yeah, isolation going right at him and it went on too, if you'll notice that they almost jumped outside.
So they're changing the tempo.
Take a little more charge.
This Brandon Perry of cheer at a pep rally two weeks ago got excited and one of the cheerleaders did a back flip.
And so he just turned around and did one himself.
As they did.
He nailed two.
85.
To it.
Well, he's a biscuit away from £300.
JOHN He's huge.
Already.
HOPKINSVILLE has racked up 53 yards in the first quarter of shotgun.
Todd Coley.
He'll pitch to Marshall and he is matched solidly Oh what a tackle Ontario Royal And that's a.
Second big hit by Royal.
If they can get a little bit of pass protection, give Cody a chance to get the football down the field.
Not going to have to do a Barney series.
We're just a three step drop and just throw it deep and get these defensive backs backed up a little bit.
But coming out of the secondary, 100 miles an hour, tackling backs in the backfield, got to back them off somehow.
They just can't go east and west can't go left and right.
There's just too much penetration, too much speed on this Panther defense bench counting, you say while they were state champions last year.
Attacking defense with athletes from fourth down.
And 12.
Hopkinsville go for it.
But now they're going to think about it.
Hawkins will call timeout at the 136 March in the first quarter.
We wanted to see what the defense is defensive say it was going to be for clinch can a clinch can't a move does more coaching lately more changing on defense than to do an offense or offense looks a little bit complicated.
It's not compared to their defense.
Coach Barber is a defensive coach by training and in his heart, and he knows more tricks and more great things on defense and anything else.
You've got to love Coach Luke Campbell.
Watch him.
What a tremendous story.
We'll talk about him and his story later on.
Coach DICKERSON takes his defense coordinator, Coach Dixon's couch, just getting it down.
Coach Barber with a hand and hey, let's go get the Coach Barber up on his feet.
So talking about getting a dime, look, look, let's tell you about the rest of the games.
They'll be happening at the Georgia Dome, Decatur and Buford in class two, an Atlanta metro matchup.
Both teams undefeated Spalding and Peach County will meet in the three day semifinal in Class four eight.
The Tucker Tigers making their first appearance at the Georgia Dome, takes on the state's girl Blue Devils and Valdosta and West Side.
They cost five on court.
That's not totally basketball and is looking long the loss in that he kept it down touchdown so Lawson 33 yards wants the poise and the protection by the offensive.
Line Larry.
Went to a shotgun gave him a lot more time and look at this 64118564 went up above everybody.
There's that mismatch.
B.J.
Richardson did his best.
He was right there, but he just got it was just a mismatch.
Six Forward.
Here's the adventure.
John Jeremy Marshall.
And the kick.
It's no.
Good.
Yes.
It's just, you know, they don't want to they don't make fun about their patty, but they just they do not have a good patty.
Oh, game plan.
They normally go for two and they had a bad snap and couldn't get the whole the ball thrown around, helmets flying off and they're just something they need to work out.
Here's the replay, John.
Shotgun getting a lot more time now.
Look at this athlete.
Oh, perfect.
Beautiful pass.
Good.
I air under the ball and boom up in the air.
And double coverage.
And that's where the hype really comes into play right there.
Oh, look at that catch.
I don't know.
Here's what a catch.
What a great kid.
You got to meet him last week when we were doing our interviews.
Great kid kept 90, touched that 98 yard touchdown reception.
Seven plays took over 4 minutes.
Phil Lawson catches a 33 yard touchdown pass from Todd Coley.
And finally, Todd Coley got some protection, was able to step back in the pocket and let it fly.
And he does have tremendous passing skills.
And give coach Campbell though Hopkinsville quarterback himself credit profile getting a game plan going to a full shotgun look to give him some time to get the ball now he's got that Panther defense backed off a little bit.
See if they can stay with the offense.
Now, let's see if Clint County Panthers can answer the bell.
This kickoff return is going to be exciting.
A little pop up fielded by Darian Thomas.
And he goes nowhere to the 35, 34 and so Clinch County for the first time against Hopkinsville.
Just behind last year, Hopkinsville was shut out and they finally broken the ice here at the Georgia Dome.
And Clark County cheerleaders are saying, go Panthers, let's get them back.
Third year that Clinch County's been in the dome.
Second year for the Hopkinsville Red Devils.
There's no don't mind us here.
It's just a matter of coming up here.
And taking care of business.
First in ten go out shotgun three receivers to right and Mingo going one for McKnight overthrows the.
Flag out I love the flag route it is always open it's the easiest pass route to get open out in the world, but it's the toughest pass to throw and a complete it's hard to throw it and it's hard to see the football as a receiver.
Your helmet is in the way you try to get Turner for so great play, Carl.
It's a great route.
Yes.
A hard, hard thing to take the free mission shotgun.
3:00, one receiver on the left side.
So Johnson said get him.
And Mingo continues to dance and finally hauled down by Robert Hall.
This is the game plan for Clinch County.
They let Joe Lewis Mingo number seven, I might say Michael Vick, but it's Joe Louis, the bomber Brown bomber.
So if he can get a knockout punch here during the course of the game.
But we saw the elusiveness when an athlete like Charles Johnson can't run you down.
He's 2 to 3 Auburn to get him down.
But this is their game plan.
They let him run and improvise and then receivers get open, make things happen.
They average 34 points a game on third and 15 from the 31.
No backs they go looking to make something happen and come from behind.
Robert Hall again.
Fourth down 20.
John, both offenses are just struggling against these defensive front lines.
It's being worn and lost on the line of scrimmage.
Here you go.
Well, we talked to Cecil Barber before the game.
He wanted to open up the offense a bit on this game.
And the Hopkinsville defense has come out fired up and containing Joe Louis Mingo and.
They're doing it with a front four.
They're not doing a lot of blitzing dogs or anything like that.
They're just going after each other.
We've come to the end of the first quarter here at the state single-A semifinal and the Hopkinsville Red.
Devils lead six nothing.
We're back after this.
Welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
Hopkinsville leading six to nothing.
If you take a look at Clutch County head coach Cecil Barber and Lee Campbell, head coach of Hopkinsville.
Larry, there are a couple of guys that graduated from their respective schools and never left hometown heroes.
Both these guys are heroes in their communities.
Coach Barber says.
Play hungry, stay humble.
Coach Campbell says finish the climb.
These are tremendous teachers as well as tremendous coaches.
Cecil Barber graduated from Clinch County in 1970.
Lee Campbell graduated from Hopkinsville in 1985.
Both of them are young.
Yes, they are a couple of young guys.
All right.
Here we go.
This is going to be exciting.
That's county putting Dexter Foster doing the honors and.
Ball will just roll to short the trio, make it to the 30.
And that's where Hawkins will take over.
All the points.
About this turf that I've noticed, John, is that the ball has a true bounce.
He's just like being on regular grass he's used to in the old parts of turf.
It hit and take off and bounce.
But you have to catch the football on this turf because it'll it'll hit and take a normal baseball role and cannot give up that hit in yardage.
I forgot what coach who was acclaimed said about Astroturf that it was like fuzzy concrete.
This is so much softer.
Trainers you listen to Georgia talked.
About it loves it on first down Hopkinsville collie on a quick throw to Camille Fyvie.
And finally will make it through the line of scrimmage victoriously and Lamar McKnight on the tackle.
Spidey has eight touchdowns on the season Cam Kimmie 584 yards.
There's a good look at the the turf here at the Georgia Dome.
And folks, it does feel just like grass.
Yeah, thick grass.
And look at this, John.
Time of possession.
It's just I think it's just one series different player.
So, you know, barely even if you go down to the number of times they each touched the ball.
They mark at the line at the throw.
So it's a no gain.
Second down and ten Marshall and Marshall again he's one yard.
Pick up that's it.
Matt Dupré brings them down.
They will they get into the shotgun and this looks like a passing formation, which they can, but they run their formation plays out of this and this little.
Jeremy, Jeremy Marshall, sophomore, he looks like an elbow.
He got went down on that elbow shaking it off.
He's a tough sophomore, but it gives his vision.
He has such tremendous vision that get the ball deep to him and just let him pick a hole.
And he has that little shifty motor in that ball for speed.
So great offense utilizing the talent that they have.
Shotgun again Johnson.
On third and eight Good protection for Callie and he's looking to go long No throws it And David Smith makes the catch And the first down at the 45 we'll rout.
John the inside receiver went out No outside receiver run a curl just basic football and you get to a state championship game sometimes a basic things will look you it look this pass rush they're coming after him.
Coley is cool and poised just a junior.
We'll see him again next year.
Well, do you remember last year, Larry, when we saw Hopkinsville?
They were a little.
And all this year they were just relaxed and enjoying the experience and.
A different shows on the field, different look.
In their eyes.
96 yards for Hopkinsville.
Oh, Crawley looking for Lawson.
Warren, an incomplete.
Lawson was blocked.
Yeah, -38.
Richardson.
It's -13 yards for this high powered offense of the Panthers that both defenses are geared up coming to the sideline for a to get his.
Four or five already in the first half 53 yards and a touchdown that pass to Phil Lawson.
Yeah he was total intimidate last year coach getting the time out They want to make sure on this play.
But yeah I mean let him out really show he's on the field how much more relaxed Hopkinsville is this year and they've been here before and no acting.
Like it.
John, what?
We got a chance to lead coach Campbell Lee Campbell down the left with his hat on.
That figure is higher.
He shaved his head in April.
Jones had about nine tumor removed from his head and they put a tremendous storm.

John, this Hopkinsville offense has already done more in the first quarter for starts offensively than most teams have done during the regular season.
We're not the number one defense state for a lot of reasons.
This HAWKSBILL offense is rated.
Coach Campbell's got him coached, got a great game.
Plan going up to the state championship of 1959, hoping to advance and the chance to add another championship banners calling Alexander Wallace.
And it's roll down.
He'll do three on a sack.
So what this flag is John tried in the vicinity of holding.
Here we go.
Got a replay.
Great, great replay.
This just great camera angles.
Do praise, making big plays as we get this call.
And it's holding against Hopkinsville.
Their first mistake, first penalty of the game.
John, I watched all the games yesterday and the the officiating all five football going to play means.
Holding on offense ten your replay down.
Art Williams our referee.
Coach Lee Campbell there you see the Sheppard tremendous scar on the back of his skull he overcame it has never you know never might that a big issue he he didn't try to use it as a motivation to here you go your capital city football officials association great group of men all stars in their own right they'll be working somewhere next week.
The state championship game as well.
After the walk off.
It's a.
Second and 23 for Hopkinsville I was shotgun the I was going to keep for 35 and.
DeForest Henderson is there to knock him down Jarvis Henderson.
Coli is pretty active it doesn't rush a lot 177 yards on the season following touchdowns.
Governor is a popular guy, Larry.
He's a great fan of high schools.
Education has been a priority in his administration.
And being a former bulldog and Warner Robins athlete, he understands not just football, but not just sports, extracurricular activities, emphasis of his ministry in and, you know, throughout his legislative planning, he's done a lot for TV.
You saw that stat three of five and third down conversions for Hopkinsville.
One third in 1840 seasons.
Bowling here comes in and said he misses the country unloads he's going for time out that and he dropped it wide open.
Chuck Oh, Chuck Betts.
The hardest pass in the world to kiss.
Don't you know, John?
You're wide open.
You got a touchdown.
All you got to do.
Oh, man.
That may have sealed his fate.
John at the universe, George's defensive end.
Oh, he had a right in his mitts.
What a throw by Todd Coley.
How would you like him in that defensive back standing out there and look up, you see a £250 split in 632 50 projected to be a defensive end in verse Georgia.
That was George Williams's problem.
Dedrick Smith The punt and we have a flag as you hear again from Mark Williams.
Prior to the snap illegal procedure on offense by George fourth.
Down while we see that Hopkinsville has opened up their offense.
And what an offense it is they did a great going from two backs for maximum protection to one back and put pressure on the secondary.
They couldn't cover everybody had them wide open.
By stack almost blocked by Boise Lamar McKnight.
A lot to go out of bounds and be marked out at the 44 yard line of Clinch County.
Hedrick Smith is great punter averages.
Here we go.
Oh, Morris Lee had a big ballgame last year in this semifinals.
Almost blocked it.
Smith averages 40 yards a punt 39 point something and they're trying to put pressure on him so he can't become a factor in the game.
Still got off a pretty nice punt.
Well Clutch Kelly's had their frustrations on offense so Lewis Mingo has been pretty much contained you know Hawkins filling a job containing him last year but then that's when Mr. Kelsall showed up.
At formation.
John And he is just a tough guy.
Matt In the backfield.
Brandon Perry Like you said, he had 221 yards last year and you can see why the low to the ground has misses like a Emmitt Smith Hugo Brandon player, 45 tackles five sacks number 70.
Now, remember, he's just a 11th grader, just a junior, a good student and a tremendous athlete.
He's the guy that did the back flip the back spring and make a perfect team.
He is an all stater.
Last year as a sophomore yeah again.
Second down 11 trying to give it to Justin Gainey and he's head immediately Brandon Perry again.
Wow and everything's going wrong.
You're playing is going against you and you got to have something.
Then go to basics, just line up and hit him in the mouth.
The only problem is his Hopkinsville defenses so fired up they're doing the hitting listen this time.
Bone crunching talk about hitting in the mouth.
Hopkinsville has been doing that.
Third down 13 Mingo retreats looking for McKnight.
Incomplete.
Gets right Sean Anderson on the coverage and it's going to be three in out for clutch county.
Here you see Sherrard great pass coverage here we go get a replay on it look at the position of Sherrard here he is turn those hips got in position and he just ran the wide receiver right out of balance.
At the last moment he went at the highest point.
So Mike did some good coaching and a pretty good execution out of Sherrard.
Dexter Foster, the punt.
John that didn't get a lot out of the offense lost a little yardage but they didn't lose Tanner 20 Starting to get a little bit of something going on offense.
So returnable failures Anderson to watch it bounce and they'll take it at the 27 and he's in jail and brought down Lamar McKnight was there.
Along with Stephen Wright.
Stephen Hodges.
All right.
Well, here's the final four, a class single, of course, yesterday.
What a thriller, Lincoln County with 25 seconds to go Stephen Brown touchdown passes they defeated trying to try and had 24 unanswered points in the second half.
The winner of this game will play Lincoln County of course Hopkinsville or clinch count they win will host the state championship game on first down Todd Coley will give it to Jeremy Marshall and marshall looking to get to the line of scrimmage maybe thrown for a loss.
Coach Campbell still looking for some ways to slow down this pass rush slow down this tremendous pressure is coming out of their front four, but they're coming with safety blitzes, cornerback, blitzers dogs, anything that you can think of, Clinch County does it on defense.
A very, very, very complicated coach.
Barber does a great job.
Coach Dixon, you see him around the sideline talking.
They're bringing the house in the words of Coach Barber.
Second and 12.
Rolling pass complete and brought out Camille.
Spivey He makes the catch short of the original line of scrimmage maybe yards George Williams on the tackle.
Oh what a move.
And that's a no call inadvertent inadvertent facemask.
Take a look at Camille Spivey, a junior.
He and Todd Coley are cousins, but Sergeant Coley says he doesn't give his cousin preferential treatment.
You can hear the Hawkins Hall fans are a little bit upset on that replay.
Don't blame one.
They're a vocal group down there in Hopkinsville.
They're fired up.
This season has been tremendous for 3011.
On the Blitz, here comes Henderson.
But he's picked up and Coley going Oh he's got five wide by Fielder throws him.
Well that's two big plays that Hawkins by a chance to take advantage of but John what's not to be watch.
This wrist action from Coley this is around 45 yards 50 yards in the air.
What an arm.
He's wide defensive back beat on the curl rout and they ran the wheel the outlook and he did they open up and he's wide open.
Coming back to punt.
So you like Hawkins.
He'll come in with a night low snap and he gets it off.
McKnight will watch it.
Drop it to midfield.
That's where Clark County will take over 440 to go in the second quarter.
This is going to be the best field position to Clinch County's had in the whole game.
They went back to some basic formations by formation.
There's some basic blocking.
Let's see if it'll pay off on this series.
Best, fourth, best off field position.
They've had.
Get into it.
Look from the looks on time, a tight set and then try to throw the bomb.
See if they can back off this defense from Hopkins going a little bit themselves.
You've got to get your wide receivers downfield, but you've got to get the quarterback where he can set his feet and throw it without being pressure.
It is a chess match between these two coaches out there going back to the shotgun, look.
For midfield.
First and ten and then go get the castle and Kelso gets across the midfield to the 45.
Where he's brought down by Antoine Thomas.
They went to their shotgun, look for a wide open look, but they ran their basic isolation play.
Good play.
Go see that.
BLOCK Wow.
You see the block.
You see the defensive heating.
These kids are intense and they're motivated.
Coach Barber said that forensic stuff.
Is the best field vision of any outfit he's ever coached.
Real fast, that boy, he can hit the holes hard and tell soldiers, No, it's bingo on the keeper.
Short of the 40 yard line brought down by a host of Red Devils, including Jonathan Stewart.
Right.
Fake Johnny, fake me out as well fake the isolation play the Mingo kept the ball around the end just basic football look at this punt interception punt negative one negative certainly three negative yardage.
This offense averages 35 points a game.
This is unfamiliar territory for them.
They've got something going here.
Third down and two Halsall has.
The first down, gets a 35/1 first down of the game.
I believe John.
Brandon Perry and Charles Johnson team up to bring Lorenzo Kelso down.
Down here in free will in territory.
They got four downs to get there first four downs to get the touchdown.
So look for some if they've got a trick, if they've got something special, we're going to see it here in the next couple of minutes.
First down for touchdown after 35 minutes shut down.
Look Mingo looking to keep it maybe reverses this field has a little bit of an alley to the 30 and to a 25 yard line.
First the first down.
I believe Desmond Brown.
I believe he got it.
John.
On the tackle.
Do you see why he wears that number seven and his favorite athlete is Michael Vick.
Of course, which you see it here.
But the thing about it, when you're playing on turf and even though it's a it's a rule in coach, in a back like this, you get one move, you know, second move.
They're going to catch you, make your one move and then take what you can get.
Let's watch right here.
Second move, they're able to get it.
Just take the one move and then put your face down the field.
Goal north and south on that first.
After that first move, another first down for Crook County Halsall.
Oh, it's Mingo on The Keeper and he's brought down by Antoine Thomas after a game five yards.
Reggie Johnson, number 59.
Let's see if we can see him here in the picture.
Yeah, you saw him right there.
He didn't look like that.
He made a block, but he did.
He pulled across from left guard.
He's a senior.
He's number two in the senior class.
He's a smart kid.
He knew who to block and he didn't see it, but he made a key block.
And still negative numbers for Joe Louis Bengals.
We've hit the two minute mark and Lorenzo Kelso gets the call.
Charles Johnson drags him by the.
Shirttail and brings them down.
All American Charles Johnson.
You see, he has just 42.
He beats press is over 300.
And of course, he benches £400 or close to it, but he has a 42 inch vertical jump.
He came up you he'd take a silver dollar off the top of a backboard.
His favorite football player is, the Tennessee Titans, Jevon Kearse.
And he's very much like Javon Kerr's big kid, very athletic and loves to get the quarterback.
If he will.
He's willing to pay the price and get in that classroom and do what he's got to do in the classroom at the University of Georgia and get in the weight room.
He might be the next Javon coach.
35 counsel.
We'll get a couple.
Antoine Thomas was there along with.
Brandon Perry to bring him down.
As class a football.
These high schools only have around 500 students or less in Class AA.
But, you know, there have been people like Herschel Walker, Roger Kingdom, Garrison Hearst tremendous players come out of class a football in state of Georgia clock.
Running for flex timeout 2 seconds.
Right.
Let's count he calls timeout let's count He finally getting a good offensive possession after being in negative numbers throughout the first half.
You know just a couple of quarterback sacks and then your stats go out the window.
So it's going to take him a while to make it up on the stats, but they're making it up along the line of scrimmage.
Coach Barber, whose job.
Is to.
Get 42 names on how to get his name, got just one.
Now, come on now you can go to the score.
They're not saying get his knees.
They're saying blocking low, get down low.
He's going to knock your teeth out if you try to block him half.
He's down under Charles Johnson.
The sleeves drop here right now.
They didn't want to do it again.
Like Coach Graham Black, defensive coordinator.
He's telling them not to take the fake fouls.
KEYES Cam Black, also a Hopkinsville High School graduate.
His father, John, was on the 1953 state championship game last year, said to tell you that his 53 state champion, Bobby Gentry.
Coach Gentry, I think, was coming up today.
He won three state championships and that stadium, Bobbie Gentry, after.
He patriarch of Hawkins, no.
Football, no finances, no body and a quick pass for a lateral.
The Lamar McKnight is cut down by number 12.
Camille Spivey so bring up fourth down now.
That was fourth down, John.
They turn it over.
They went to no backs.
What a tremendous gamble to go with a no backs.
See it at.
The end for that lateral.
But it was a lateral flow was going to be a double pass but then he tried to run it.
So it's just too much speed and quickness from this Hopkins field level defense.
The blockers actually got in his way up.
And we'll take 45 seconds to go and Todd Kuechly takes the knee.
This has been a fast first half, John.
Even though there's been a lot of passing, they count the passes, the clock has not stopped, even though they're passing the ball quite a lot.
Both teams are executing, but most executions on defense hitting in the mile.
You got to be impressed with the way Hopkinsville has come out, both on offense and defense.
They're a team that wants to redeem themselves for a performance at the Georgia Dome last year, and they've done.
That so far.
They've done.
That.
And then, you know, don't down to Clinch County just yet, the score was only six to nothing but.
Clinch County's ten behind they were behind against Landmark last week and came back in with a vengeance to win that game.
As the clock winds down to the end of the first half and it's been all Hawkins all six to nothing Red Devils touchdown pass from Todd Coley to Phil Lawson in the first quarter.
Coach Barber there he's been here before his.
Third trip in a row.
Coach Lee Campbell.
Here's Gerald.
Yeah let's here two let's throw it down to Geraldo.
He is down with Lee Campbell.
Hey, coach, you expressed a lot of concern about being able to pick up the blitz from Clinch County.
How you been able to do that so far?
Well, I think we're doing it pretty good.
We're picking it up.
But I know they're going like I'm bringing the house the second half.
They're trying to get pressure on a quarterback and we're doing a good job.
And he's he's always throwing one and we hit another one.
So when the plays there, we've got to make it.
That's my big concern now because we blew a couple of chances right there.
There's a strong defense there.
They're going to make adjustments.
And we got we got to go in and make our own and, you know, slow down those guys.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Coach, and good luck in the second half.
Back up to you, John.
Thank you, Gerald.
Our score at halftime, Hopkinsville six, Clinch County, nothing.
We'll hear from the fans after this.
And welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
Hawkins will be critical at halftime.
Six to nothing in the past single-A semifinal game.
Let's go down the field here from I'm in Gerald Olavarria.
It's a lot John we're here on the field with Pam Tyson, coach, wife of Donald Tyson, former coach of Clinch County.
Could you talk about the renaming of the field recently, the place going on recently in October I can't stop offensive pants to minus five it's it's medical center in Jacksonville and so on the football players that white bar got behind the community and wanted the renaming of the field to be framed for Donald Tyson feel okay talk about him as a coach.
He was a wonderful person.
Of course, Jimmy was the best.
He was a hard worker, always volunteered his players and even in the hospitals, they wanted to sit down like if you just said, we're fixing to win a ballgame and you had 20 seconds left, which quarterback would you give it to?
And he said, All my quarterbacks were good.
Well, that was a wonderful honor for a wonderful man.
And we thank you for coming out here.
Now let's take a look at the Clinch County Marching Band.
And it now won by now.
Keep listening to the Clinch County Panther Band of Pride as they wrap up their performance.
Let's head back down to Gerald Oliveira.
Thanks a lot, John.
I'm here with Parker Hulsey, the band director for Clinch County.
I've seen you playing some of the fun favorites out there.
So tell me something good about the band.
Why did you decide to fuck it up today here in the Georgia Dome?
When we were choosing music for this year's show, we wanted something that would entertain the crowd because what good is a dull band at halftime?
So we wanted to have something that was upbeat, something that was subsiding.
And it's my first year.
Fletch got it.
So we wanted to try to do something just like sliding a spec.
Together right off the bat.
I've really been proud of these kids.
They've worked hard.
And they've really done the work and it just.
I'm just really proud of them.
That's all I can say.
And this is your first year.
Talk about where you see the band going in the future.
I'd like to see lots of continued growth.
Lots of continued musicianship.
I'd like to see lots of content and precision.
And this up, up.
And these are the kids who can get that done.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Mr. Hosey, and good luck in the second half.
Thank you.
Back up to you, John.
Thank you, Gerald.
Fine Performance by the Panther Band of Pride.
Ashley Colburn, The Drum Major.
We're at Halftime.
Hawkins the leading six to nothing.
When we come back, we'll hear from the marching machine from Hopkinsville.
We're back after this time out on TV.
And welcome back to the Georgia Dome at halftime.
Six nothing Hopkinsville on the field right now.
Seahawk into a high school marching machine under the direction of Mark Legato.
The drum major is Will Rebecca boys Christina Collins and Stephen Morse, 95 members of the band.
And they're putting on a show called Rocking the Red Devils Rocked the House.
Hopkinsville, thanks a lot, John Fitzgerald very down here with Father Gato, band director for Hopkinsville.
Could you talk about the experience of being here in the Georgia Dome?
Oh, it's awesome.
It's so great just to come back and get this opportunity again to tour.
Blake County especially has been a great opportunity to talk about the kids and how special this is for them.
Well, it excuse me, it's a great opportunity.
We weren't all year long to get this situation and to try to get here.
Once we get here, we're ready to go.
We're fired up and ready to bring a state title home to Hopkinsville.
Well, I understand you're going to go out there and direct a piece so I won't hold you.
But good luck in the second half.
Back up to you, John.
Thank you, Joe.
Fumble has doubles he's walked to at halftime.
And so the football team as we take a look at the first half highlights from here at the Georgia Dome.
And in the first.
Quarter county 30 the balance Anderson field them and it coughs it up.
It's recovered by Clinch County in tremendous field position and a chance to make something happen.
Then the next play Joe Louis Mingo throws it It'll be tipped.
By Dexter Foster it picked off by a foul Anderson and.
Redeems himself on that play later it led to that the first score of the game Foley will be on target to Phil Lawson, a sensational catch by Watson 33 yards.
And he uses all of his six four frame to catch it in double coverage.
And that makes the score six nothing.
And Larry, as we take a look at the first half stats, look at the other yardage racked up by Hopkinsville.
They've done more in the first half than most teams did the whole season against this tremendous defense, negative four yards rushing, Clinch County Panthers, turnovers or even penalty yardage really doesn't mean a whole lot.
Not much their total yardage.
Hopkinsville 97 Right.
And check out the end.
It's been a defensive battle.
That last stat right there, seven tackles for loss for each team is a telling stat.
All right.
We're getting set to take our kick off the second six.
Nothing.
Hopkinsville.
We'll be back.
And welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
Six, nothing.
HOPKINSVILLE At halftime for earlier, Joe Oliver, he talked to head coach Cecil Barber.
Coach, you had a very uncharacteristic first half, but yet you're only down six points.
What did you tell your team?
Halftime?
Well, we've been down before.
You know, during the half we were down against Joel and Kenny and we came back, took the lead, but lost the ballgame in the last seconds less but and if we were down last year against Lincoln County, we came back in more in the in the second half.
So you know it's going to go down.
Characteristics there's a your weight room, your conditioning both teams are playing hard you know.
So who's going to step it up a notch?
But some points on the board.
Thanks a lot, Coach, and good luck in the second half.
Make up for you, John and Clinch County.
Well, they're defending state champion.
They want to keep that trophy in the trophy case that back at home, Neville.
Larry Coach Barber won state championship last year, his first state championship football.
He won seven state championships baseball.
He's retired from baseball after this last season.
He's been here before.
You've seen his demeanor.
He's not excited.
He knows what we've got to do.
Been here before going back Coach Parsons with Coach Parsons dearly, love, great guy, great teacher, 52 years old.
He just we got way too young.
And I think, you know, they ought to be a Hall of Fame dedicated to the wives of all coaches.
Coach Campbell's, wife Alisha, Coach Barber's wife, Debbie.
They do so much for these football teams.
One thing we want to look out for in the second half of crunch time, we mentioned above players having the flu stamina is going to be really important in the second half, Larry.
Yes.
Yes.
They're going to get their offense on track and make something happen.
And, you know, there's no panic.
But they blew two, three pass coverages and the Hartsfield defenders got the offensive players got behind them.
And they really ought to be 21 to nothing.
So they got to get the pass coverage shored up.
And I think on offense, they're going to have to get the football to Lamar McKnight.
Number eight, use that for speed and get big six five.
Dexter Foster has four or five speed involved in the offense.
Try to open it up for Lorenzo Kelso.
And I have a feeling that we're going to see a lot of Joe Louis lingo as well, keeping it.
Just establish some kind of a run and get their defense off football.
The defense has been out there way too long.
Hopkinsville You just keep doing the same more.
This is more of the same, you know, hey, we ought to be ahead 21 that we have to drop passes are again the offensive game plan's working we're painting them up and backing them up to give them negative yardage more of the same.
But do not forget what got us here.
How Pitino.
The fans from Hopkinsville finally have something to cheer about here at the Georgia Dome.
They're pretty silent.
Last year, the fans from home reveal and made the trip up.
Well, they're starting to make noise, too.
They want to get their punch.
County Panthers fired up as Brandon Perry will kick off.
Brandon Perry Division one prospect.
He does it all.
And field it at 22 of 39.
Good return there all the way up to the 40.
Byron King and there's king on the return and puts pretty decent field position for Clinch County on their first offensive possession of the second half.
He hit that hole with the first.
And Joe Lewis Mingo minus four yards passing one of four an interception.
Interception led to the touchdown zone.
And first downs.
Just beyond the 40 yard line from the shotgun set.
Kennesaw to the outside cut down by Charlotte Anderson.
A pickup of seven.
But those arms.
And there's Mr. Kelsall who was big last year in the second half.
He's 511 £205 bench press is three fifties tremendous athlete 30.
Two yards already.
He's still on track.
He get his numbers second down and two Kamara McKnight in motion and they give is to number six and.
I think Robinson.
Things can be a little.
Feel a.
Little short of first down bringing up a third short.
Well, they want to establish their run in the second half, Larry.
And they're doing it pretty well.
You know, it's not that explosive ten, 20 yards have it time to snap football, but they're getting the yardage they need to get those first downs right now.
That's all they need to worry about.
Very similar to last year, they stopped Mingo.
That's when Kelso took over.
Now it's like Kelso and the rest of the running backs will be getting some carries for crunch time on third and one and know where keep it.
And I don't know if he got it.
Tremendous effort by the Hopkinsville defense led by Jonathan Doo hard.
Little bit of a gamble John shotgun on third down and in inches stayed in the shotgun and showed an option to let Mingo have the option here you go replay you see he's still not back to the line of scrimmage and then it's going to be very close.
That red devils storm defense.
And they are asking for a measurement.
Well, you're a little bit surprised, Larry, that Clinch County didn't come out and try to loosen up the defense a little bit and get to McKnight.
Well, Coach Coach Barber has been here before.
I him I mean, once they get this first down, getting better field position to it, I'll take their chance to air it at one time to back him off with it.
Yeah, I think they've got to do it.
By the nose of the football.
It's A first down that's about as close as you can get.
They got to get football to Dexter Foster and Lamar McKnight, the wide receivers, they're the.
Playmakers.
They're the playmakers.
Both with four or five speed.
So first down for Hopkinsville, a midfielder for Clinch County at midfield.
So Chuck Johnson and big Brandon Perry talking they've got to get in there that common.
This defense is hitting their ears back coming in go troops and has McKnight he.
Catches it at the 44 yard line short Anderson and Dedrick Smith there to force them out of bounds.
Just real simple down and out here you go see maximum protection.
Got a pretty good little gun there to a frozen rope out there.
There you see McKnight, 38 yard average, three touchdowns on the season.
That didn't tell you about his forward, forward speed.
He's a playmaker.
Second down and five.
Low snap Mingo will keep it in trouble and can't get away Number 85.
Well Robert Hall, Robert Hall's had a good game for Hopkinsville in defense.
Yeah.
Mingo just doesn't look that fast, does he?
Johnny doesn't like that, but he is.
He's fast.
That just tells you what this defensive firm up for Hawkins really is.
They are two athlete speed all over the football field like this tackles for loss I don't believe it 15 tackles for loss is that a season for an average high school football team.
And still got 8 minutes left in the third quarter.
Just think anything I said, I'm not going to the offensive line, but both these teams are just tremendously and on third down the road to reverse and McKnight is across the floor he has a little bit of an alley have the first down and gets out of bounds at the 30.
Well, that's the first trick.
Play we've seen today.
Here we go.
Option run option a lot.
And here you go, toss by.
And right at the last thing you go see Barry Anderson, number eight, come in the pitcher.
He ran a43, easily a43 to come to make the play and fortunately missed the tackle.
They came out of center field running about a43 to get there.
Tremendous play was a great play for the Panthers, but that was just unbelievable defense out of Barry Anderson as he starts.
First down and a flag.
And we'll hear again from Mark Williams believe this is the deepest penetration today for Clinch County.
Yes, it is.
And I think it's trying to get about 3/1 down prior.
To the start.
Illegal procedure on offense.
Five, your three plays first down.
So your call moves them back, five.
Coach Barber, quite a gentleman, 29 years in education and all of it in Clinch County.
19 years as an assistant.
He was defensive coordinator at Clinch County, then became head coach ten ago.
I'm just glad to see him standing up.
You remember his last two years?
He hasn't been able to come in here physically.
Well, himself, broken leg.
Two years ago, a bum elbow last year.
He's completely.
Healthy.
And Kelso gets the handoff on with the line of scrimmage and that's it.
I'm saying Robert Hall was there.
Along with Joe Marius Powell.
For down there and free will and territory for downs to get first downs go for the score.
They don't know if they're going to have to really about a trick play or a gimmick here.
You know, their offense is wide open.
You know, every play they run, half the plays they run offensively or, you know, could be termed a trick play, but they have such, such skill.
Athletes just get it in their hands and let them do their thing.
Try to get them in space, get them on the corner.
Get in 14.
Spread formation, doubles.
Use it in this formation.
Mingo likes to keep them run to go throw it in step and it's complete pass.
For 30 to 32 yard line.
Mama McKnight.
Mingo, Town Coach Barber.
He says Mingo is such a levelheaded kid in the team player.
Here you go.
You see, he's looking down the field.
I think what they have talked to Joe Louis Mingo in the in the locker room sideline is, hey, get the ball.
Go ahead.
Just throw the ball at these guys.
Do their thing, try to take too much on himself.
I think Joe Louis was trying to do too much himself with that first half.
Just let the other guys play.
Also got got ten other guys on the field.
You go ahead and let them play with it a while and it's worked and it's been very effective.
This offense is starting to click now five yards, five yard, average per play.
Well, Marlon Knight, the big play receiver for Clinch County.
Made some plays.
And this half as Mingo Fumbles, it's like Kid Clutch Kenny will keep the ball.
Lorenzo Kelso there to.
Keep possession with the Panthers.
Antoine Thomas forced a fumble.
Robert Hull, number 85.
Here you see Robert Hall coming in, the Nigerian that Meyer tried to push him away.
What you coach to do there is grab that guy's arms and tackling it.
It's a fumble.
It's free ball.
You can actually tackle the guy going for the fumble, just tackle him and then let someone else for the fumble.
That's great play.
Robert Hall, £205 sophomore a tough tough he'll.
Bring up fourth down and long and Dexter Foster will go back deep to punt nobody back for Hopkinsville they were expecting.
Here we go Here we go yes we're.
Expecting them to go for it.
Fabulous Anderson goes back deep it part fair catch.
Inside.
Fields it at the five.
Oh he can't run they didn't blow the whistle okay good good.
Well, you know, we talked about those bounces on this turf.
Yes.
Wouldn't that have been a good chance to let it go, maybe get in the end zone?
Well, I want him to catch it and run it.
But you stand on the ten yard line.
I think he lost where he was.
He stepped on the ten of his over your head.
You let it go.
But, you know, that's.
Part of the reason he bounced yesterday on the kickoff.
They bounced funny, but they answered it.
So, you know, the way it was, the trajectory of it, it looked like it probably would have died inside the five they got.
So, you know, a fair catch.
It not the worst thing in the world could have been worse.
Jones County play a little field position Todd Cole his numbers and it's been solid five of 853 yards and a touchdown he's had protection and Marshall on the handoff from starting yard.
Start to say John I love what coach barber did you see that defensive defensive coach hey we're going to give you the football inside your team and inside you pointed and Mike you make a mistake we're going to Panama defense to win our state championship.
This is a crucial, crucial series here for both football teams.
They can't get it out of the hole.
If they might mistake here, Clinch County's is going to have the football touchdown.
What's the old saying?
Defense championships.
General Neyland, the old Tennessee coach.
Second down and nine.
He gives to Marshall Marshall gets across the ten to the 12.
Right on schedule just hammer in straight ahead.
Nothing east and west down here now won't get a chance to sack the quarterback all the running back.
There and Thomas there on the tackle.
Got a hurry up here.
They had trouble getting the play.
And I'm really surprised that Hopkinsville is going conservative with all the success they've had throwing over the.
Top of the field position is dictated.
It had too much time, couldn't get it, didn't go, had to call a timeout, couldn't get up there.
But field position has really come out.
It's second.
To first.
So Coach Lee Campbell on the sideline, I'm going to be talking to his troops.
So big number seven in there, Brandon Perry four 285 this offensive line, Clay Marshall £205 senior, John Doe here.

When Clinch County had the ball on their first offensive offensive possession a second half, they had it for 6 minutes.
Little over 6 minutes.
So they chewed up some cloth.
Unfortunately, the points out of it.
Yeah.
Come on.
Now that time out, cal back right.
GUARD 6 to 25.
Trey Denman 63 to 70 at right tackle Nevin from outside nine 185 quick this conversions third down.
Not bad really considering the defenses we've.
Seen and Cole gives it to us.
Antoine Thomas and maybe a couple.
The wall of Clinch County Panther defenders were there to stop him, and I'll bring a fourth down.
And watch for a ten man rush.
John They might bring the house here, try to block this.
They want to make something positive happen defensively or in their kicking game.
And don't forget who's going deep at these Panthers.
Let's Hear from Gerald Olavarria.
Thanks a lot, John.
And that last time out, Hopkinsville head coach was very concerned about the plays county blitz.
He told his players to make.
They pick up the blocks and make sure the offensive line hold their players.
Back up to you, John.
Thank you, Gerald.
Flag down procedure against Hopkinsville.
Check out the right side of the line prior to the start.
Of our 55 yard replay, fourth down.
A lot of coaches will go on to on their punt team so I thought they had drawn Clinch County offsides is not a bad.
Now with Dedrick Smith in the back of his end zone do you bring the whole team the farm looks like they might almost got it Dexter Foster is there along with the Mormon guy.
They'll just let it stop at the 27 yard line, tremendous field position for Clinch County.
And I tell you what, if I were put punting the number eight Lamar every night for Clinch County, oh, what a play almost should have had.
Could have been what else?
But I don't know that I'd want to punt that.
McKnight for Clinch County.
Let him have the open space that he can he can get.
He can score in special teams in a hurry.
Cedric Smith also serves as the punter and almost headed right back to 1/1 and ten for Hawks Earth for Clinch County.
Lamar McNally In Motion and Lorenzo Kelso is now at the line.
Of scrimmage and driven back to Marius Powell there for Hopkinsville, along with the rest of the Red Devils Storm Defense.
Big Brandon Perry gang technologies.
They're big, they're strong, they're fast look this tackles for losses were up to 17 total tackles for losses the line of scrimmage on the snap always goes backwards.
The offensive line for both teams is dominating the football game.
Size and leverage and all controls.
Got it.
And Joe Louis Mingo looking to throw dancing now.
He's going to keep it by 25 to 20 and out of bounds at the 17.
To make most of.
His defense in the 17 for a first down and a mark at the 18.
It's a coverage sack.
You know they didn't sack the coverage was too good.
They were trying to run a wheel right out of out in the air.
And he just didn't have enough time.
Brandon Perry pressured him.
Well, he's getting some tremendous yards per carry, but he does run the ball.
Great block there.
Lorenzo Kelso, not only does he run the football, but he blocks for his quarterback, too.
It's a there's team chemistry, yesterday's games, today's game.
You can see team chemistry, poise from this football team.
336 to go third quarter.
Coaches.
The first time about.
Clinch County didn't like formation didn't get the right play call right formation right kid in the game or something they call it time is too important here did not get the play third and short didn't want to gamble to come up on the fourth down or maybe get a penalty for illegal procedure or something.
So Coach Cecil Barber calling a tremendous football game offensively and the overload Omaha many more.
Games coming your way on TV in Class two eight in a Metro matchup between the Decatur Bulldogs and the Buford Wolves, both undefeated before the defending state to a champions, Spaulding and Peach County will meet in the three a semifinal kick off scheduled for three.
Tucker and Statesboro line for a 6:00 kickoff schedule for that one.
And Valdosta back to the dome.
After a one year absence, they take on West Side Macon and that kick time approximately 9 p.m. here on TV.
You know, Valdosta wins, John.
The state championship will be in Valdosta on Saturday night.
Camden, he'll be right here on TV.
Camden County one yesterday, Charleston County one.
If Clinch County wins them a four state championships and south Georgia despite.
Land touchdown in the backfield by and from Thomas Hartman.
Thomas is a hard punter he is a hitter 33 year starter got an alma home start he came at the get go penetration.
And the Hopkinsville fans who were subdued last year have been noisy this time around, very near the two minute mark here in the third.
Quarter.
Talk about him being a gamer who comes up big in big games.
He's got a 3.5 grade point average.
He's a smart kid.
Fourth and three in the going forward.
And here comes down the back loose.
It doesn't matter us Mingo recovers it, but Hopkinsville will take over at home goir they fired up Charles Johnson doing the dance.
Look at his feet.
The center steps back.
He at center is getting knocked back and having to step back, make one stance right on his foot Brandon Perry.
He's just a junior.
Colleges need to back off.
He's just a junior.
And they've been running play shotgun.
First time he lines up on the center, he gets his foot stepped on first and ten for Hawkins will Collier will give it to Jeremy Marshall mostly had him but Jarvis Henderson finishes him off down the 20.
This deep both defensive lines are awesome Here we go Get a replay on it this is isolation left out of the shotgun.
It looks like something fancy.
Another tackle for a loss at.
The line of scrimmage.
John is just going backwards every time the ball snap most defensive player they don't hit in reed they attack that's their style of defense and if you can hit the same are not if you can hit the hole.
They're not in your face but if you go try to go east west bull they're second and third to go to throw from 3 to 5 at the 30.
They knocked it loose.
Great defensive play that was Monteiro rolling he started last year Montero started last year this game as a sophomore.
He stripped the ball at the last second.
That's a good defensive back.
His back turned to me.
Some good coaching five £860 JR.
So on the incomplete pass it brings up.
Falling 13 volley.
The three good protection breaks down some but he's going long and it's intercepted down in the 50 yard line by Jay Richardson.
Another Hopkinsville turnover.
PJ was big last year in this game, the wide receiver was wide open, but there was so much pressure from the offensive line that he could get set up.
Here you go.
See, there's pressure.
And now he sees that the receiver's wide open, but he's under pressure and cannot get his feet up under him.
And you see.
Dedrick Smith.
Was the.
Receiver.
BJ Richardson comes up with a big play and he did have a big game last year in the semifinal.
So Clinch County with another opportunity, get on the scoreboard first and ten at midfield Mingo pitches the council.
For another loss.
Antoine Thomas Wow.
Hey John, who would you pick to be the star of this football game?
It's definitely gonna be one of 20 to the defensive football player.
Give it to.
An entire defensive unit.
Watch this individual effort by Antoine Thomas.
Well, they.
Strung it out.
I mean, you know, he did his part of the job, but they had 11 hands going to the football, doing what they were supposed to do.
So well, discipline.
That plays play each year, 14 years for loss for three on the catch across midfield with 45 and.
Down to the 43 yard line brought down by Jonathan Dewan.
Both of these teams averaged over 30.
Again, these are two good offenses.
You know, this is not something that the offense can't do.
These are two tremendous defenses that just refuse to break offense.
We've come to the end of.
Three quarters of play our score still.
Hopkinsville, six, Clinch County, nothing.
We're back with a fourth quarter after this.
Back at the Georgia Dome, six, nothing.
HOPKINSVILLE As we begin the fourth quarter and Larry, we talked about this game being a defensive battle.
It certainly has been.
Hopkinsville came in here.
Look at this stat, 33 plays, half of almost half of them came up for a loss.
31 plays for Hopkinsville, almost half came up for a loss.
And Hopkinsville touchdown in the first quarter has stood up.
And we're looking at maybe one more score before this game is over.
Let's go to football on third and two and Mingo is going to keep it off, raise him down.
Robert Hall won a game.
He's had another tackle for a loss.
Hawkins Clinch calmly punted in this last situation, it almost paid off for him.
They will punt again, I predict.
And he would go Joe Lewis under pressure under stress this Hopkinsville defense win in the playoffs they won 44 to 1340 to nothing, 45 to 0.
And then last week, 25 to 6, they got scored on by Commerce.
Charles Johnson was so infuriated he rushed in and just blocked the extra point because they did not want to give up that score.
So this defense from Clinch County leads the state during the regular season, but I think it just taken over now by Hopkins.
William Valiant Anderson back here as Dexter Foster gets at the point, Anderson field it at the 15 on the run, gets across the 20, and Boris Lee is there to knock him down on special teams.
And the field position could be a whole lot worse just inside their 20 yard line.
It could be worse.
Well, on the last offensive possession by Hawkins really got a little conservative.
What was their success in the first half was throwing it up top with John.
I think both coaches are just sort of stale, feeling it out and trying to find some kind of a weakness that they can hang their hat on in there.
You know, they're going to get under the center.
They going to the shotgun.
Look, they're doing everything.
Just, you know, if they've got a single wing or if they've got anything up their playbook, we're going to see it here in the next few minutes.
And even with the flu bug getting close, Kelly doesn't look like stamina is been a problem.
The Marshall gets the handoff.
It's been 25.
He's in the clear.
One man too big and he brings them down.
D.J.
Richardson saves a touchdown.
The what?
A run by Jeremy Marshall.
Hopkinsville has been pinned up this whole second half and their side of the 20 yard line.
This had terrible field position and now we're talking about fatigue.
This Clinch County team defense might showed a little bit of fatigue.
51 yard pickup by Jeremy Marshall and BJ Richardson saves it 105 yards for Marshall.
Remember, he's a sophomore hundred and £60 baby.
He will be back and.
He's got 200,000 yards on the season.
Solely to throw.
Loose.
The Rush finds Smith at the 15 another first down for Hopkinsville you yeah credit for pod totally he.
Came up here last year and just embarrassed himself and he has done everything in the world to redeem himself this year.
What a leader, what poise.
They talked about how he was such a tremendous leader, understanding the kids will follow him anywhere great poise.
And to stop the momentum.
By Hopkinsville clutch county will use the timeout timeout why do.
The Hopkinsville fans last year very subdued not much to cheer about but this year they've come in great numbers were up in Polaski and they are making some noise here at the Georgia Dome.
Let's hear from Coach Lee Campbell.
John.
Let's hear from head coach Lee Campbell.
This is what he likes about coaching.
Is being around the young man watching them develop from when they're eighth graders, freshman up to their senior year.
Just like being around there.
They keep me young, I keep me going.
And I like to watch them mature from, like I said, eighth grade, ninth grade up a senior.
That's part of the biggest thrill I get out of that is watching them develop with the, you know, the character develop and grow from, you know, more than the young man over here.
Campbell was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in April.
He had successful surgery.
It was a benign he still has some weakness in his left side of, the body.
You see the scar on the back of his head.
He's a tough guy.
He doesn't want anybody to pity him or anything.
He just goes about his business.
He wanted his son to be able to wear number ten, South Hopkinsville.
That was his number when he was at Hagerstown.
He was a star athlete, going to go to Clemson on scholarship.
Had an accident, broke his leg, lost the scholarship they call a touchdown come five he got a nice touch perfect touch there cousins and it's a family affair in Hopkinsville.
Watch this replay.
Look right here.
What's the touch on the ball?
Just right over the defensive back.
Right in there.
Kimmie on target.
Oh.
Beautiful catch.
Makes it 12 nothing.
Hopkinsville Oh, look, this two point.
Conversion look at this unusual two point conversion is awfully well.
Hey, he may football fall.
He's out there.
And we've got.
A penalty.
Here in a place where it might have been rough and the pass off might be a.
Holding, you know you brought up a good point about how Coach Campbell won the sun wears number.
That's a tradition in Hopkinsville.
First we'll hear from.
The television fans on offer declined points over.
So many generations playing for the Hopkinsville Red Devils as we take a look at the touchdown.
Look at his feet sets those feet plants and boom through a full touch pass That's a perfect touch pass two point conversion look this he just slipped out of his hands.
I'll bet that he did or something.
It slipped out of his hands.
Three plays 78 yards over 2 minutes of time, and we'll spy if he catches a 14 yard touchdown pass from his cousin Tom Foley, I was mentioning generations play at Hopkinsville, grandfathers, fathers.
And the tradition there is that you where your father or grandfather was number the number passes down through the generations at Hawkins.
And they put it in your cradle when you're born.
Yes.
Like you heard about in Valdosta.
But that's happened in a lot of communities around the state.
They put the jersey in the cradle when the little boy is born for Kimmy's family that was his Matt touchdown on came in with a 20.9 average every kid you pray to Jeremy Marshall running back for his run to set that up.
Take those out of bounds.
That pop up that's something that came in to coach and since I got out of it, I've been retired for a while from coaching and I'd rather push that football down the field and I hope we push it down in a corner and try to him I'm up in a corner of that pop up.
Scares me that they make one block and if he were to catch it, make that move.
He's got a short route to the end zone.
And they'll kick it again.
But they only get five yards free kick.
But John, these skill athletes for both teams are good now and they say that they get you an open space like they have, that they have blocking schemes on kick returns that you have to do something special.
You know, the game has changed since I got out of it.
As bad as I hate to say that.
George Williams and Brian King.
There's a good shot.
Of Brian King or back deep for Crunch County.
Good shot of Brandon Perry there teeing up the ball.
Did with Brandon to kick it off Pops it up again They got it mad scramble for Neil Stymie and it's Hopkinsville football you've got to fair catch that football they.
Clinch can they thought for sure it's going to bounce and go out of bounds and they sort of held.
Up on it.
Victor Bray, a freshman, came up with the football.
Well.
Heads up play.
He tried it once.
It doesn't work.
Try it again.
I really don't think they were trying for an onside kick on the first one here.
Look at this play.
Look this play right here.
It was Camille's V. Cammy.
Like a basketball player, saving it from going out of bounds.
He knew he was going out of bounds and that was the negate bounce.
I think he just popped.
It right back in bounds.
Todd Coley, the spark the troops will over 10 minutes to go in the fourth.
Quarter and looking to deliver the knockout blow as Derrick Smith makes the catch.
It's about the 41 yard line.
But here again, John, I don't think that was a cold onside kick as much as it was just part of their game plan.
Here we go.
We got a replay got to love his fundamental technique, his footwork set the boom coming with it.
Well, the state of Georgia, seeing the quarterback skills of Todd Coley last year, he just never got in track.
He always had more sleep or Jarvis Henderson or somebody on him and never got the offense on track.
Today, he's been a star.
And on second down quick throw the spy.
The Bible had the first down and now to short John.
Back when I was in coaching class, a football class Double-A was Wishbone.
But how Momi came to Valdosta State, West Georgia College had all their success under Bobby Peak and Coach.
These coaches from South Georgia went to Valdosta State, Coach Campbell went to West Georgia.
They picked up this West Coast offense, the pass offense, and that's what we're seeing.
193 total yards for Hopkinsville.
They are dominant along those lines, Larry.
I played.
Rita three days in a wishbone.
In Arkansas.
I moved Arizona and everybody was running the run shoot.
I played poorly.
On the first down Barnsley now, but the pass is complete.
Dedrick Smith What about the fact that it's middle score, 27 yards?
What a move, what a plus you Coley.
All the credit in the world to get that ball off.
He should have been sacked.
He should have should not seen that great vision.
Great poise out of it.
And then.
Oh, course, Lee just nailed them.
What a throw.
Look that move.
See that turf house up?
And honestly, right here at the end, you see field made up quite a key block right there at the goal line.
Antoine Thomas for the extra point.
And the no good that's the.
Adventure 18 to nothing.
Six Hopkinsville may have delivered a knockout blow.
