He's coming in, hits a slam jam, pull up from three.
Watch this guy go wheel drive, backs it in and gets it.
It's game two of our afternoon session to look outside the coliseum.
We take you inside right now and it'll be the Double-A state championship on the line this afternoon, hailing from Region six Greater Atlanta Christian and from Region four to the Beckley County Royals.
We say good afternoon to you and yours.
We welcome you to GPB.
He's live and exclusive coverage of the basketball championships.
Day two Gill Tyree along with my partner in crime.
How many times have I said that Herbalife and Herb we take a look at this basketball game of the day and we got a day of it.
Yeah.
You saw there was hardly anybody outside of the Coliseum.
Everybody is in here.
This place is just about back and they're anticipating the great game and so are we, no doubt about it.
And of course, the guys from Blakely County have come here well represented a whole lot of folks making the 45 minute trek from Cochran.
Let's take a look at Blakely County.
They come in here red hot right now.
No fear in them.
And they're led by that guy.
Yeah, that's Demario Beck.
He's 33 points in the semifinals and he's a do it all guy for this team.
He's a senior.
And they look to him for leadership.
And of course, Greater Atlanta Christian Eddie Martin continues to run that system and that's why they're here and now.
And Mr. White, we got to Wilkins we got to look at that leads us smart.
Then we've got Dominique Wilkins stepson, Isaiah Wilkins.
He's a junior, is six foot six, and he's a guy.
The damage to double double on the season.
He had a triple double in the quarterfinals.
He can get up and score.
He can also get up in the air.
And he blocked ten shots in that triple double.
So he'll swats them away.
All right.
Now let's meet the third member of our crew this afternoon.
We had our yesterday and by popular demand, she's back again today.
Raven Tirado, good afternoon to you.
How you doing?
Good afternoon to you, Gail.
I'm doing great, guys.
This is the first time Blakely has made it to the big dance and it obviously shows.
Look at the crowd behind me.
These guys are wild.
I was talking to Coach Kirby a few moments ago and I asked him, what does it feel like to be here with this team for the first time in a state championship?
He goes, I mean, look at these guys.
He goes, Not a person is left in Cochran, Georgia.
They're all here right now.
And it definitely shows out on the court with the guys.
They're quiet, their focus.
And you can tell they really want it.
Back to you guys.
All a lot of gold in the house tonight.
And of course, Cliff Curveball and what an outstanding job he's done.
Let's take a look at the starting lineup brought to you by regions back.
It's time to expect more.
Take us through her got Torres Nelson he's a senior guard number three rebellious Taylor six foot senior he's also a guard you got DeAndre pinch they run the three guards he's a junior Demario backs he's a senior forward and Kim Hughes a senior forward.
And now they're looking for him to really come up against Isaiah and neutralize him.
And of course, Jaycee.
They're starting lineup brought to you also by Regions Bank.
It's time to expect more.
There you see Troy Morrison.
He's a junior Collins sweating a shooting six foot senior Sam Boyd sophomore and he'll drain the three as well.
Isaiah Wilkins We talked about a little bit at forward and Justin Lewis, another forward, the keys to success.
We'll start with the roles of Blake Lee County.
It's brought to you by CSG.
Learn more and more of Blake Lee County in the first championship they've been in and they want to get off to a good start naturally.
And then if they can keep this ball game close at the end deal.
They've won three games by a total of five points in these playoffs and they shoot free throw well so they can get it down to under a minute and be close.
They got to like their chances.
And on the greater Atlanta Christian side well the greatest to success Yeah they want to jump out to an early lead and establish that they're the dominant team.
Of course they've been here a bunch in the office in the past.
And also they want to limit their fouls because this black Lee County team is a good free throw shooting team.
So looking for a great win here.
You take a look in Coach Eddie Martin.
And I'll tell you what, there's no finer gentlemen when it comes to getting things done.
He's in the huddle right now.
He's bending down and talking to his troops.
Right now.
They have those three losses to Jonesboro and of course, the Carrollton and know Birmingham.
And you get a close look at close coach Flip Curveball and the head coach for the black elite, Tony Williams, who left and said, come in here with Lacy and let's look at them.
And they've been three of the top five teams to get here.
And like Herb said, five points.
The separation in terms of those wins and they are a team that senior Laden in a whole lot of confidence right now.
You were talking to me about Eddie Martin system.
You know, he won state championships at Norcross and he's won state championships here and that really his system is I don't have a system that I try to cram my players into.
He takes the guys and the talent he's got and then he develops a system around them each year.
All right.
Back in Hawkins, we'll jump it up for the wall.
We are underway here and make it into into what a game we're going to have for you this afternoon.
Collectively in control right now.
And that is Nelson spotting up for a long jump in the corner.
It's available and a rebound taken down by the Spartans.
That's Troy Morrison, of course, the timeline early on here in Macon.
We're glad to have you with us this afternoon.
Game two of five coming around off the wheel.
That's Cam ball down low and try to get in traffic and then this was Morrison on the rebound is controlled by Ray Kelly.
They were in purple and gold this afternoon a long three off the iron no good taken by Nelson and the royals lose the basketball we go the other way with this falcons like the Tennessee open in man to man deal Wilkins up top spotting up for it and he knocks it down three three nothing Spartans 655 in the opening period on the right side as Nelson goes inside to back and they get the basket right there Jack opens with a two run two zone and a nice play there, exploiting that baseline spot.
Taylor on the basket, drive in the lane and scooping it up and then the foul by Wilkins off this this five to Jason great crowd here this afternoon and of course the John Nelson and Shawn Golden at the early game here this afternoon the girls going by John as are wrestling and they continue and like Herb talked about again another assistant coach who year in and year out gets here to the state championships.
We'll see a couple more in the next couple of days and one today that he's happy.
Welcome to Southwest.
The captain of course, Angie Embry of North Ross on the Runner and the Miss was by Troy Morrison and going the other way.
the Royals likely count it they don't and download it back.
They move the perimeter and driving and it's huge.
And then this action is fast and furious.
Up and down Herbalife nice defensive hands by Dutch Wes Nelson.
And there you saw some of that famed Wilkins leaping ability on the other end as he's rather in that shot Here you go one step and he gets up his hands almost to the rim in this shot Bledsoe right now one of five from the field 38616.
And we have a whistle at a turnover and a travel Very good immersion good play candy I think early on they've had a couple one airball and one bad miss and then a rough little looking coach Curveball.
He got his game face on Jaycee and finds it right in front of us Walking across the timeline is Morrison.
They go too slowly.
He blows past his defender on baseline and we have a whistle and a stoppage of the play.
That was actually a good foul on Nelson because nobody else was helping on defense.
Who doesn't foul there?
Swinton's got a layup the inbound to Wilkins on the turn around and he got it inside the lane made it look so easy like the left Isaiah Wilkins averaging over 16 points and ten rebounds coming into this game here this afternoon.
Back down low on the far left to this rebound controlled by Wilkins Sean Morrison will walk it across the timeline for 44 in the opening period here at Macon Swinton doubled up trapped still with it gets it off to Wilkins down low on the cut and negotiating inside his turn Morrison taking it off glass and it's a long two ball game and just like that the thermal has taken a time out.
Go fast, break trade and look at it right here.
Nice play by Morrison inside to make it make the basket here.
But one of the keys was for greater Atlanta Christian because every team likes to just get off to a quick start.
When you're playing somebody that's coming in with a little bit of chip on their shoulder and that's right.
They've done that right now.
And Leslie County looks like they're playing a little got some nerves, maybe some good time out by Coach Kirby over there to settle his guys down back at a nice inside shot there.
He should have made that.
So they just need to get a couple of buckets and a couple of stops and get back in this game of six.
So run it.
We had an opportunity to go inside the huddle with Coach Campbell and you had a chance to also look inside the huddle with Eddie Martin.
Quickly right now, one of six from the field, Jake, four of nine.
And what Blakely's got to do is come down and be patient and get said, Zone, take your time, work it around and get a good shot because you got to get a couple of buckets to get the edge off.
We know how runs are so important.
He just has Laney in the early game against Wesley.
That was a story that basketball game ready today the turnover by Blakely a little unnerved yeah and it goes to GHC really an unforced turnover there you can't make those against his own right no reason Third turnover for the gentleman from Carter nine two in the opening period that's Wilkins on a spot of talent I think they make you pay.
If he go for the steal they'll find the open man Isaiah Wilkins with six They've got the battle of the park up against Logan still battling the glass and we have a whistle and a foul that's got to be aware that they're double and triple teaming him.
When he gets the ball in low, he's got to look for his offside man to step in for the little bunny shot.
Let's take a break.
343 here, the opening period, GHC 11 two But the phrase, the atmosphere in Macon.
Yeah, we hear you.
We'll be right back after this.
Still 11 two here in Macon in the first quarter and you see great athletic first quarter with the nine points Carter officiating through this afternoon Curtis Pierce, Dwayne Gribble and JT Turner an outstanding crew from the Georgia High School Association.
Daktari along with Herbalife and the Ravens lot of saying good afternoon a great atmosphere.
The high school basketball part of championship weekend day two back down low the triple dismissed the rebound for four and going up strong with it and count it does it go an offensive foul.
No he walked well for 54 he got it Wilkins has got their number inside right now and everything going wrong for black like candy.
This is dangerous for them.
They've got to be careful here.
They've got to hang tough on her, play some defense until they can get their offense rolling.
Can Hughes struggled with that boy How tough goes down low to Wilkins struggling with it still struggling and tied up and I'll call trouble aggressive defense there by Blakely Candy and the thing is Gregory line a Christian is a tough team to come back on if they get up too much on you because they're very disciplined, they're not going to turn the ball over.
They're not going to take bad shots.
That's better than the double team in the rain.
And tries to follow.
His own shot up was Jarrett Farrow, who's in the game right now for Hawk Down there.
They got a good look deal at four or five footer right inside, but there's a lid on it right now.
Publicly, no question about it.
He puts on a fake and following it up right there is back in it gets it to go snaps that GHC run 11 four right now the pace frenetic Swinton is fouled as he goes amongst the trees Take your pick Looks like a couple of guys.
They got him there they got mugged got mugged and making the for the afternoon set in a lane.
So.
Collins What seeing will go to the line and get a look at him.
Love that hot tub.
See that lets it go Now.
Is that the haircut I job say?
That's right.
You ever heard of kid play, No, no, that's a little bit sad.
I tell you who does know about it will have to die now what No, Sean Golden oldies has his will.
Haha, that's in his wheelhouse.
You know, education in the game coming up a little bit later on.
Marco County on the quarter.
So I want to get something going in their offensive 612 for GHC with an eight point split over any left side and spotting up for the jumper on the miss it's De'Andre Pitts and the ball is out of bounds.
We're told by the royals of Berkeley County quick starter might have got a little help being out of bounds there roughly counting Haley for a reason for 2018 three coming into this basketball game here today.
Their first state final was stolen away off the inbounds on the entry pass and Jaycee in transition and they throw it away.
Well, not Troy Morrison on the turnover but Norcross Eddie Martin loved to play man to man.
He's always played a lot of man to man.
And he's opened up in zone here.
And it's been very, very effective.
And that's what I meant by the system.
He'll do whatever it takes to win ballgames.
That's Spud Taylor on the less the Rebound control by GHC and they love to run swinging to the rack no good the rebound control by Wesley County and we go the other way and it's stolen again Ball for four on the floor and a tie up.
Well thank you I'm sorry did you have the ultimate possession favors?
BLOCK Lee County with a score of 12 for 142 and they for pretty clear the Spartans leading coach Curveball and Company will be right back in Macon after this.
Been away for two.
Back here in middle Georgia.
You get a look at the crowd here that is assembled at the Macon Coliseum for the two way state championship right now in greater Atlanta, Christian with an eight point lead at 142 of the opening period.

We need your support to support these great games, these great kids, these great communities in these great families.
We say thank you.
Speaking of families, the Wilkins name is hot and heavy.
Early on, you take a look at Isaiah Wilkins and Mr. Herb White.
Tell us what we're seeing here in the opening period.
Well, he's done it on both ends of the floor so far.
He's really been intimidated and presence inside.
If he doesn't block it, he offers it.
And there you see him with the nice touch from about 15 feet in stone, veteran Christian, just a very efficient team.
And they've had 72 points off turnovers for greater Atlanta Christian.
And he shouldn't be turning the ball over against that zone defense field And of course you get a look at him the stepson of Dominique Wilkins coming in, averaging a double double, 16.3 points per game and 10.7 rebounds.
And it's Kirk said his presence definitely being felt early on and period number one.
Well Blake has got to feel a little snake bit right now.
They've had a couple of bad bounces.
They had a nice looking three go around around and come out.
So you start getting a little down when the shots come close and don't fall.
But they've got to stick with it defensively and hang tough until they do start dropping GHC with the basketball and pounding it right in front of us was the cam boy who goes over to Troy Morrison, tries to rub his defender off a pick, gives it to Boyd, spots up a three ball no good rebound by sweet little guy going after it gets his own rebound and finds for a melissa looking on the baseline and he lays it up and in 14 for now they just lead at ten for 19.
But like you said earth likely to make an ill afford to let this one get away from it.
Jumper is good by Saric 14 to 6 the lead at eight for the starters coaching any minute Boy that's Wilkins a three No you go the other way with the wolves in transition.
Yeah you just can't go in and throw it up like that.
I mean he saw Wilkins was in front of him.
He should have pulled that ball back out.
It's let's go for excellent rebound and block five follow.
And that'll keep the royals great.
They go the other way on the ball staff.
They have numbers to pull up.
Count it.
That is Spud Taylor for teammate the lead at six and the royals on a run pressure by physically counting Morris and able to get by still with it Wilkins out top that is Webb the Wilkins was struggling and a half court set bail out by Morrison to Wilkins nope for a rebound controlled by Blakely County to one Do they have time Lets it loose.
No.
And that's the end of the first quarter with the score.
Way to the line at Christian 40 and Black Lake County eight.
Listen to this crowd.
We'll be right back and make a good start.
The second after this on the great GPB about ready to start the second quarter here the leading scorers right now for period number one Isaiah Wilkins for greater good line of scrimmage and Spud Taylor with four points for Buckley County Wilkins has six the road to the championships brought to you by g g EMC Georgia EMC lighting the way.
Take a look at the royals and how they got here.
Well, there you see those scores we talked about.
Look at those last three games, Gil.
One point game two point game a two point game against very good teams.
So that's why we say Blakeslee County, they can keep it close.
They feel like they got a great shot at getting back and getting another one.
And on the other side, the home team this afternoon wearing a white with a red trim and dark neutrals.
And they see Yeah, yeah, see again, a very efficient team.
They put up a lot of numbers scoring over 83 times in their ballgames, holding their opponents to 50 points or less.
So again, very efficient team offensively and defensively.
And as we said towards the end of that first quarter, Grayson Blakely to get back in, this thing is supposed to play good defense.
They did that on a couple of possessions, scored four points and got back in this thing.
They need to continue to do that, have patience against that zone.
And really, I can say I find very little fault.
What great Atlanta Christian's doing right now is that Wilkins has tried three two threes at the end because the end of that quarter no reason for him to do that.
Really.
He will score and it will in the paint and that's where he ought to be scored His second here in Macon on the perimeter right now will be an up top as Ferrell goes over to Pitts back out top to Tyus.
So trying to work hard to find a way to get the ball in the interior that's the way they on the field around was huge and great defense by Wilkins and the ball is controlled by the Spartans straight ahead to the rack and switching off pass it and what coast to coast here Collin Swindell finishing with the left hand taking a pretty good shot there you see that angle good job brought that up from down low kept it away from the defensive man and converted ten.
He was on the foul his second for the senior and SWAT and able to complete a three point play 17 to 8 now 708 before halftime the royals got to get some going sideline extend it and the missed by Liggins on the ball controlled by the Spartans Witten will get control over the floor defensively he was out there trying to block the three pointer then so he he really moves well on defense so when you are going against you splits the defense finds a man on the baseline and that was Lewis and the missed basket down low the rebound controlled by Blakely counter that's looking for her I'll tell you what the royals just out on that perimeter he did nothing on the interior right now but the Spartans defense, well, they're just passively passing the ball around.
Yeah, you've got to try to split that defense, get some people coming into that lane, breaking into the lane, got to make some passes in there, somehow split the defense and get an advantage baseline jumper by again and no good and we have a whistle perfect first foul was on Spud Taylor his first we have man substitutions right now in for GHC is Andrew Lewis to see and entering the game for Blakely County is Savon Walters that is Wilkins he can shoot it and gets it to drop Really nice rotation on that jump shot and he was left wide open but it looks right now 19 eight ball almost stolen away that is Walters who lives up to its very emphatic 19 to 11.
They need it down hill.
Yes in a big way.
Troy Morrison for Wilkins this spot up again for hello.
I think you might want to get a defensive player out there at the head of the key when Wilkins is standing there.
Come on, Wilkins Now with ten Nice alley oop play there Demario.
But they split the defense that time and they had to leave their man and that left back open for the crib that's and they'll go down low to Lewis on the jump hook No good rebound control by the wolves of likely county they'll go the other way across the double range is Spud Taylor goes over to a foul with it right now is Pitts lining up for a long one it's Mark Taylor no good the rebound control by Ferrell an opportunity by Buck no good two good looks no results open look no good And the rebound controlled by the Spartans That's boy Joe Lewis the boy gassy trying to get something going with their half court offense working the perimeter right now that's Wilkins the leading scorer so far with ten boxes opponent in and the double team and the steal But getting rich getting the ball back was Hamilton.
You got help and they got help.
Absolutely.
Swenton coming into the basketball game for gassy You watch the Gassy team.
It's a pleasure man.
Those guys, every time they catch the ball and looking at the basket, they give the ball fake, they make the right pass.
Very.
That's how long back it's first.
353 approaching halftime lead at eight.
We'll be right back.
And they've been after this state on the line 2113 Jesse 353 until halftime.
You know football Fridays this fall season number three Jonas each Friday evening starting August 30th the all access pass pregame show as we kick off the season at North Gwinnett High School where the double header of a national high school gridiron challenge from Ringgold of Valdosta from Savannah to Lagrange we got you covered Herb White with football Football Fridays in Georgia only on GPB.
It's gonna be exciting.
We look forward to hanging out with my buddy Trey McDaniel.
He's sitting back and watching right now, our broadcast today.
Text me last night and we're looking forward to catching up with the big solid second quarter numbers right now.
Field goal percentages.
Blakely County, two of six, Jayce three of five.
Get a look at some of the crowd.
And of course there is Eddie Martin back to back titles in ten and 11 trying to get one after the lost opportunity last year and going to get another title, hopefully bring it back to the Norcross Base School.
You go right up 85.
Herb and what do you get the Indian tree, Indian Trail, I wonder old buddy Jackie Bradford is here today.
The great really started the Greater Atlanta Christian program back in the seventies and won a lot of titles.
Girls and Boys.
So the former football coach now doing assistance yeoman's work his age up he's here to music the outstanding and great people up at greater Atlanta Christian they know how to do it well after double team is back and he struggles and a bail out on a jumper by Pharaoh 21 to 15 the lead is six now I think Blakely County may have gotten a wakeup call Her voice that's Wilkins down low and he misses the point about numbers about numbers as wide in transition to the lane to the rack was pharaoh That's a block call And the block it looked like Tyler Hamilton from behind Wilkins.
We see Wilkins on the wing.
This one just didn't get his power.
Step down very well and good job.
He's taking that run all the way to the rack.
Right?
And the foul was indeed on Tyler Hamilton, number 20, his first at junior 30.
We would be looking for Pharaoh in that lane every time he stepped in there and made that little 15 footer left handed.
And look for most definitely listen to this crowd.
1337 Good job he did.
He said it twice now when they double teamed him in the post, Pharaoh stepped in for that little jumper and he looks like that's his stroke.
You know, we talked about the return of Christian.
They come in this basketball game with three losses and we know they have not lost since December 29.
They they lost to Jonesboro, they lost to Carlton.
They lost to Winona in a holiday tournament at Columbia.
And since then have been very, very good.
And on the other side, I mean, you talk about their resume of work and how they got here through the playoffs and if game confidence each game along and what a job that Coach Carbo has done and, you know, played with William Andrews.
Yes.
He told me that at the Citadel back in the day.
And, you know, you expect this likely talented team with all the upperclassmen they had on this team not to panic.
And, you know, they know they can get back in this game and they know how to do it.
And it's on this end of the floor coach, of course, William Andrews, the former Falcons, they all grew up in the Thomasville, Georgia, area at the time.
Louis, I believe they had a look at Coach Curveball coming in here.
They had a 21 game winning streak.
The Royals trying to make it 22.
They have the basketball and the ball was thrown away by the Spartans.
Terrible entry pass there in transition and throwing a wild shot up.
Was Justin Lewis going to get a foul on the defense there?
He was late and falling to the deck was Bob Taylor.
Taylor got that's his second and the team six second on Scott Taylor so that will send Justin Lewis to junior to the line first stuff including Lewis doesn't start all the time and coach Martin said that he's a guy that probably start for a lot of teams but he's he's accepted his role on this team and he's done a great job this year.
The second is up and good.
That'll make it 22 to 16 Spartans with a six point lead 333 until halftime.
There's a take out and a jumper is good by far off.
The kid from Fitz and Kelly he's got the hot hand you got to look for him.
One 1818 The royals within four struggling with the basketball is Troy Morrison Morrison struggles drives the lane sweeping lay in It's no good ball fought for knocked out of bounds and stay here with see and that's what you see here you see Ferrell with that southpaw jumper right the entry pitched a nice kick and Ferrell buried it like a guy that knows his range.
He hadn't taken a shot from the three point distance but all three of his jumpers have gone down They're going to get Wilkins and if that's Wilkins, that is that here.
This is his first first correct get a shot of coach anymore.
You will see he's gone to man to man.
Now he's come out of that zone.
You likely on the perimeter trying to get something going on the interior knock it out is Ferrell They go into back he had his shot all to the ball knocked out of bounds of the GSC and the royals will retain possession with 128 as the entry passer Yeah and Wilkins well they could have got him for one in there he didn't keep his verticality with his arms and that's what they're trying to do is get him first.
There you go.
Let him there, sir.
You got him on that.
And that's to make it ill afford to lose him as his team is.
He's their anchor on defense for sure.
Smart play by Blakely to keep going back inside here.
You see it again and back with an intentional behind the back pass.
Walters with the first opportunity doesn't connect.
Let's get some moves inside.
But he doesn't really have all the strength he needs to finish in there with a little more upper body strength.
The second one is good.
It's now a three point lead for J.C.
They had double digits early on, but Blakely County has come back.
Swinton in traffic.
It doesn't go the other way On the wings, fakes the three is Spud Taylor on the perimeter now knocking down a three is back three guys four steps out and finally found the very open man and got it to him.
32 to 21.
And this crowd, this partizan crowd for Cochran has come alive and he is quickly Johnny in transition.
The spin move and the rejection by Lou.
We go the other way.
SLATON No, The block follows and Lewis and Wilkins have blocked that one down on the other end.
Who threw out Lewis?
That was with emphasis.
Let's watch.
Nice spin, move here.
But Lewis saw it coming and man, he said, no way ever need to check the glass and see if there's a crack in it because he smacked that one our first time.
This basketball game.
And just like that, J.C. unties it.
It's now 23 to 22.
Well, we knew this place.
We counted team was quality team.
And again, with a lot of seniors even getting down early, they didn't panic.
They know they've got a good team.
They hung tough sledding, 24 to 22 home.
It's the one right here.
So it may be exactly what we to go in tied up and make sure he's not down any more than three but looks like they may go ahead on something that's back for 519 try to get into the half court said, throwing away was Walters he had the open look Herb Well they hold it and hold him for one and throw it away.
Yep.
And that can happen.
And I'd have been advised to go ahead.
I know the coach was looking for one, but he had gotten within about eight feet of the hoop mike for the shot and turned it over and it goes to the Spartans.
Cam Boyd in the game right now.
But Coach Martin not going to get illegal pick legal pick on Andrew Lewis to watch him step out now and get the defensive player there you see him lean into him, not to be stationary in the second screen.
6 seconds to go, but trailing one, two, three at the buzzer was Walter's no good.
So very entertaining.
First half with a very excited crowd dominated by black Blake County 24 that 20 2gac out in front.
Let's go to raven standing by with Coach Martin.
Coach, things started getting tense in up out there.
I think things started getting a little hectic.
What are you telling your guys?
Get him to calm down a place.
Got to calm down.
Wait.
We've made some turnovers that have cost us down the stretch right there, but they're a good team.
So I mean, their defensive pressure is getting after us.
We just got to relax, guys, start finishing some around the rim and just take care of basketball a little bit better.
All right.
Thanks, Coach.
Good to you.
Back to you guys.
Raven, thanks so much.
Coming up at halftime, we're going to talk to both principals.
We'll also have first half stats, first half highlights as well as DB's coverage continues of the boys and girls GHC State championships live for the Macon Arena live on GPB.
Jason Lee did my two and a half man bonding look at me in the I see my mind.
That's it in the memory.
You want to be a super hero?
like it.
And welcome to JB's presentation of the DHS.
Say, Boys and girls state championship basketball games.
We're live here of the Macon Coliseum live on GPB.
And we now welcome into the program the principal of Greater Atlanta Christian Academy, Scott Hard.
Scott, thanks for coming on with us.
it's my pleasure.
Thanks for having us here.
Boy, what an exciting game so far.
it's been great.
Talk a little bit of what it's been like in the hallways of school over there, because this is quite an exciting week for you guys, I would think.
it's been a tremendous not just week, the whole season.
Our kids are doing an outstanding job on the court and our kids in the classroom are doing a tremendous job.
There's been such a level of support all the way through the playoffs.
We brought down nine school busses today full of our kids and many more drove.
And you can see the student section here.
They are alive with energy and they're on fire.
We're so excited for what our kids are doing on the court tonight.
They're not only alive with energy, but they're l0ud, they're loud.
They are loud.
They are.
They are certainly you know, you guys won championships, I think, in 210 to 11.
So you're looking for a third here in three or four years.
That's right.
That's got to be pretty exciting for me as well.
It's really exciting.
And for this team, not only are they great players on the court before they're examples in the classroom, great students of character, so very proud of this team and what they've accomplished this year, both on and off the court.
All right.
Time now to play that game.
Are you smarter than your students?
So we asked you a question from our Today in Georgia History project.
And your question is Little Richard was an American entertainer from Macon, Georgia, right here in the heart of Georgia.
Rock critics at the time gave him what nickname was it?
A all blue eyes.
Be the boss.
See Bubba Gordy, the architect of rock n roll.
You know, I'm going to go with D, the architect of rock n roll.
Wow You're right.
All right.
Sounds great.
Well, listen, good luck in the second half.
That should be played.
Second half, I think of a basketball here in the championship game.
Thank you.
All right.

Now let's check in with player Simms for some social media information.
Clay.
Hey, good afternoon, Mark.
You know, this match up has been completely intense.
It's been one of the craziest groups of fans we have seen throughout the weekend.
And I want to tell you this beat, you're not the only way you can get involved.
Take a look at our fans here from TLC actually tweeted at GPB Sports and tweeted, Let us know why you think your team is going to win.
You can also find us on Facebook for GPB Sports on Facebook.
And again, these guys, they're tweeting about their team.
They want to get involved.
And joining me now is our social media expert, Grace Olson.
So, Grace, you're getting a lot of people who are tweeting here.
Tell me what they're saying.
Exactly.
We started using the hashtag GPB ball and I got responses automatically.
So I've been talking to basketball with Hannah Moore and a user that goes by the name Jonathan, number 39.
We've been talking basketball on Twitter.
So if you want to join in the conversation, tweet with hashtag GPB Paul.
Also, I want to give a shout out to our two newest lights on Facebook.
They're Tanya Alexander and Brian Teague.
So you do the same.
Maybe you'll get a shout out later on in the show.
All right.
Sounds good.
Thank you so much, Grace.
And again, everybody like us on Facebook, tweet us just like these guys did.
All right, Mark, back to you.
Looks like Jesse has a white out goal in there.
We're at halftime.
The boys Double-A game between black Lee County and Jesse.
And welcome to the program.
Now the principal of black Lee County.
It's Anthony Jacob.
Thanks for coming on with us.
Thank you.
Talk a little about what it's been like in high school this week as you guys get ready for the biggest game of the year.
It's been very exciting.
Our kids, our communities have all rallied behind our team.
They've been excited, As you can see, if you look in the stands, you see a lot of purple and gold here.
Our entire community has just been excited.
It's been a long time since we've been in this position.
So this is something because I think you made an understatement, a little purple and gold up there.
There is a lot of purple and gold.
I mean, my ears are ringing.
Good.
We we asked our crowd to come out supporters and they do support us.
They are they're very involved in what goes on in our school and our community.
Our parents back us.
They support us.
And as you can see here, it's a big thing for us.
All right.
It's time to play the game now.
Are you smarter than your students?
A question from our Today in Georgia History project.
So your question is this famously crack £2,000 symbol of American independence left Philadelphia on seven trips between 1885 and 1915.
What was it was a day the Liberty Bell be the Statue of Liberty.
See All Ironsides or D, Lisa Lampanelli.
I'm going to go with a Liberty Bell.
You're right.
You know, by brands of the guy who helped write these things.
He loved D but you're right.
Is it all right?
Okay.
Good luck in the second half.
We got a great game going.
Appreciate it.
All right.

Now let's send it over to Claire Simms.
Mark.
And now it's time for our career play of the game presented by the technical college system of Georgia.
You know, the health care field is broad and full of rewarding career medical and clinical lab tech jobs are growing at a rate of over 2% annually.
Jobs in biotechnology labs are also growing at about the same rate.
And as Georgia continues to compete in high paying science and technology fields, other areas like health care and pharmacy technology have provided stable jobs for many years.
Even working as a vet, tech can be rewarding way to make a living.
And that's why health care is back in the spotlight as our career way of the game.
And again, this information is brought to you by the technical college system of Georgia.
For more information, you can just visit them at t sg dot envy.
You all right?
You ready for the second half?
my gosh.
This.
I'm telling you, the most intense game we've had so far this weekend.
It's really good.
All right.
We're getting ready for the second half of the boys Double-A state championship game, GRC and Black Lee County.
It's a two point game right now.
We've got the second half coming atcha after this timeout and welcome back.
And Macon, Georgia coach, what a comeback.
In that second quarter you outscored GRC.
What was your message to your team to ensure they move that momentum into the third quarter?
What we had to do was stop pretty much stay with our offense.
We just need to move the ball, take consistent shots, a better shot and we had to defend to get some stops down the floor and that pretty much got us back in the game.
All right.
What are you doing in this third quarter to ensure that momentum we just got to keep?
Jesse off the boards and we got to control 21.
All right, Coach, good luck.
Thank you.
All right, guys, you heard it.
All right, Raven, thank you, Coach Cuervo.
Thank you.
Gil Tyree, along with Herb White and, you know, you know, when a coach knows about a player, when he just mentions the number.
Yeah, of course he's referring to Isaiah Wilkins.
Let's take a look at some of the highlights of the first half of this basketball game here this afternoon.
You see Boyd with the three pointer and Wilkins in the middle with the little 12 foot fadeaway and then Blake Lee County.
We're going on the perimeter.
There's Pharoah, that little pull up jumper.
Ferrell has seven Pharoah on the wing again and he's knocking them down.
The leading scorer right now at the half for the Royals at Blake Lee County.
Let's take a look at stats brought to you by Farm Bureau of Georgia.
What jumps out at you?
Well, just about what you'd expect with this ball game being this close.
Everything's close in the stands, a little edge in rebounds by black Lee County, but not many free throws being shot.
Both teams from Flagler County shot nine three pointers and made two.
And I see.
And not just for the three point shooting and again, there's excellent defense being played by both teams.
But with the pace we're playing at the turnovers, that's not acceptable.
That's not excessive.
And we take a look at Isaiah Wilkins, his numbers right now.
He came in averaging out of 16 points, 11 rebounds that are ten points, ten rebounds.
What he's approaching those numbers right now, ten points and seven, seven points and seven rebounds and then the blocked shots don't show up.
But he's probably got four blocked shots and altered two or three others.
So he's really been a force in there.
And let's just take a look at the Mario Back's numbers, seven points, five rebounds, two assists, pretty comparative.
And he's had some looks inside that he didn't get down early and look for him to convert more of those in the second half.
And along with Farrell, the leading scorers for the Royals and that's where we stand start of the third quarter the miss by Boyd and we go the other way across the timeline right now is Nelson baseline and drive and then getting it up and in and as De'Andre puts the outstanding through we're not add up again the second time this afternoon boy for three and a half the rebound is controlled by Scott Taylor bullseye and guard does it all knock him down the three the unlocks set top 27 at 24.
And it's clear Sam says we got a good in here and making this afternoon a double team on Wilkins from the open man and laying it up and in was just a Louis 27 to 26.
Yeah that was a great find by Wilkins then brought the double team to him and found a man and Louis looking on the baseline Taylor again for three.
he was feeling it a smart play right there to go right back to Taylor after he just hit one.
He went right back to him.
He has the confidence going.
That was a smart play for us and trying to drive in traffic and it went off of that play by play.
County player couldn't see who that was.
He gave it back to him, but whoever it was, he made the right play and a steal.
Yeah, and a save almost.
And we have a whistle and a foul.
We're going at a frantic pace at the start of the third quarter, 637 here, in the third quarter in the third on Hughes.
And that's the first lead of the day.
And they've gotten that right here in the third quarter, 3226, the Spartans with the basketball back in and as Wilkins and playing excellent defense on him was De'Andre Pitts who had a size disadvantage the Spartans retain possession Wilkins only inbound on the perimeter right now there's Toni Morrison that's more high three more.
Not afraid to put it up.
That's his third three.
And all of them have been close in this spot and we go the other way.
That's the first listen to them because they were three three ahead of him and drive Lane was Morrison and getting the defender up and the foul that's using your head on defense Mario back it maybe a little more than you wanted to got close to that second goal by the outstanding statistician Kevin Barnes working the table again with us this afternoon.
He writes more notes than I did in elementary school to the girl sitting next to me.
604 here in Macon, double a state championship for the g h. I say on the line, I will not add up again when I tell you we're going to have some good match ups this week.
This year you were a prophet.
Can I call you question or do I call you slam it the other way.
That is Moises Swinton.
Got it.
It's rejected and quickly county with numbers and they find on the trail is back and he got Monk down the lane in this case right now favoring the royals I think you're right Gil they've got a really athletic quick team and coach let's see we had two in a row down here for Blakeslee County.
There's the first one he just biding his time.
There's the second one, nothing but a block party that will make the first Mario back seen here, the second opportunity up and in 30 to 30.
Fasten your seatbelts, folks, because this is an outstanding basketball game.
It's hard to imagine the Spartans had a big lead at 14 and Bletchley has pulled back in it and made it a game.
Buoyed up tough, struggling in the perimeter and certainly tries to bail them out.
And the runner no good likely the other way.
Are you kidding me?
Throw the miss by back and the rebound controlled by the Spartans.
That's Morrison on the trail as Boyd drives and lays it up and in Lane sees parted down the lane and he took advantage of it Nice play but the teardrop up just over the outstretched hand of back retired again at 32 for city in the third period.
We need a team in foul trouble.
Gilchrist one foul DACA in 2000 Blackley County.
So not a factor in the corner is Nelson.
His own defense again by Dozier all chopped up so he's thrown that spot.
Taylor now with 13 but has eyes and game the fall away by Wilkins in the follow up Louis nice tip by Justin Lewis on the tip got inside the lane didn't box him out 3534 That's Taylor over right now and Nelson JR puts rebounds right now 24 to 21 favoring Blackwood Nelson there's a spot up jumper by Farrell the man dismissed and gets the role really a soft touch yes the fake by Morrison against back in back altered the shot but he may have gotten some body into it as well.
That's his third.
I can ill afford to listen it's going to come out for a couple minutes, Kommandant.
Right.
Well, maybe not and see and take a timeout and talk it over.
We have an outstanding basketball manager making 3734 likely 334 in the third.
We'll be right back after this.
Back here and make 3734 334 in the third and from the land of tray the royals in the other third way.
Well they were getting that on the break and they were getting the secondary look off the break and you see it.
They really light it up with the threes.
There's three of the blazers, one or two more if you're looking at it.
Rudderless.
Taylor, nicknamed Spud 13 points right now five rebounds third quarter field goal percentage is likely five of seven from the field.
Herbalife and gassy four of ten.
And Taylor was the guy that gave us that quote before the game.
He said maybe they better think about guarding some of those.
And that's exactly what Eddie Hart's telling his guys over there.
Fellas, get out there.
Give him those wide open looks on the threes.
Earlier this afternoon, Wesleyan over Illini, L.A., 76 to 43.
Tonight, Miller Grove, Southwest, the cab.
The women will do a do over from last year the fourth state championship this time will be five eight.
Kathy Walton and the Lady Panthers trying to break that string by Miller Grove and get back into the championship.
Palin, Jon Nelson, Sean Goldman, standing for that one.
And of course, Herb and I will be back at 845 for the games.
The Red Elephants against Miller Grove.
Sure way the best best coach in Georgia, high school basketball and of course, the red elephants with the tandem of Deshaun Watson and Julian Castro.
It should be a good that's later on tonight I'm not program here in Macon right now 3746 for the double header spotting up and missing the jumper was the Andre Pitts Wilkins with the rebound as we go the other way Gilkes I really hope white and a raven tirado here you like it Wilkins with nine rebounds on the corner and getting it to go was just a Louis 3837 block talk to and from eight for Louis knock it out right now it's Nelson they got it down low Taylor great defense by Wilkins to the lane is Morrison for 240 that 37 some breathing room right now three for gassy driving Good look down here when you get that ball in the post you got to know where Wilkins is.
He can't just turn around and throw it up there without knowing where he is because he's going to come and swat it.
And they don't run right now for GHC.
That's Nelson the fourth in.
And a follow up no good rebound control by Louis head to Wilkins the boy to miss He goes the other way That's Prince Are you kidding me Yes, yes, yes and yes but Taylor feeling it will not add up again at 40.
Taylor made threes He has 16 right now Wilkins on the baseline the open look by Lewis as they go off the baseline the rebound controlled by the royals We have our fourth time the third quarter Beal on 29 that's Walters but for Nelson over to Farrow led by shot by Walters and with the rebound Spartans and Lewis on the other end and they made him pay for it You're right yeah that was another bad shot you don't need a 40 foot three ball and it led to a transition for the Spartans, a two point spread 40 to 40.
In the corner is Nelson now the miss that puts the one out by boy.
He adds it up and matter what's happening.
They got No, you can't Wesley count.
He's playing a good ball game, but you cannot make mistakes against this greater Atlanta Christian team and they will make you play and they get in transition and they are full throttle straight ahead.
Boy, there's an opportunity to increase the scoring lead.
Isaiah and gets it.
What a second opportunity there to look at the cheerleaders And later Atlanta Christian like I said beautiful campus go straight up 85 law firm you get all ten individual rows.
I should like to know my dear friends Glen Jankowski, very similar mission is the ministry outreach over the school that really gets it It like I remember when they were just about the only thing out on Indian State Road back in the day and a have for the Clippers 44 to 48 team picks to go and they're going to probably hold for the last shot here and hopefully with better result than they did at the end of the half.
The kick and the three opportunity by Walters they good 6 seconds to go that's looking at the buzzer no and away and their third quarter what the score white it up first Jodie 44 black players down a 40.
We'll be right back and making fasten your seat belts and flow three are run and it for GHC.
We'll be right back after this you look at Bletchley tiny nation of RIP was coming here from Kaplan and of course they trailed right back 4440 the a state championship on the line let's go to the fourth year to make it you know we talked about GHC and any more of these back to back titles in 2010 and 2010 back to back titles in 2010 and 11 and this was the Brogdon Bunch Herbalife and they just got it done over Thomasville.
I really like Malcolm Brogdon game great all around player at about six foot five and went to Virginia University.
Unfortunately he injured himself early this year and he hasn't been able to play.
I've really really really liked his game and of course they started to feel it and we were down here that was taking place right here in Macon and let the celebration begin.
And Eddie Martin, who's one of the classics, had an opportunity to, spend a long period of time, and his offense went up there when we did a football game this year against Westminster and had to do some research and got up and there was in the office getting ready for the season.
And like I said, this is a team that has not lost since December 29, 2012 and of course two back to back titles of 2010 and you just saw 2011 and the picks from the Brogdon Bunch, all right.
Now they have a four point lead over the walls of L.A. County, the Warriors with the basketball as we started for the Lakers.
And the ball is stolen away by Boyd and he was fouled Well actually dehydrates just handed it Yeah and that's the turnover right now and then compounded with a five just frustration that's the second on pitch for canning man to man picking up the pass coach That's Morrison the defense guy who's good for the double team and in trouble and smartly all the time after just a loose bucket count is trying to step up the pressure defensively I think that maybe Coach Martin was thinking about slowing things and spreading it.
They're going to have none of that.
They're going to continue to put the pressure on.
Take a trip around the great state of Georgia on Georgia.
Traveler from the mountains to the coast are traveling to explore the state's most beautiful and unique treasures.
Thomas, Georgia Traveler looking like having a whole lot of fun in Savannah.
The great GPB at David Belsky one up fantastic guy to watch He's hosting that show for years.
And you heard you saw it last night's story about zip line.
And he said they didn't have enough.
That takes.
So you know what?
I just I, I took the challenge and I walked four miles today.
Wow.
You know that I'm surprised.
David Belsky maintains that slim figure in here.
He eats everywhere he goes on Georgia travel.
It's unbelievable.
Learned a lot to that's Wilkins on the baseline the lead at six knee dancer has a 12 back Georgia's a three no that's with the rebound and pushed out of bounds.
Let's go over to Raven Tirado Hello Raven Hello girl I was behind the Blackley County bench over there at the start of the fourth quarter.
And let me tell you, these guys, their tensions are high.
They want it so bad.
Number 12, he was just like, Guys, how bad do you want it?
8 minutes.
Just play.
8 minutes.
How bad do you want this?
Morrison drives to the rack.
Thank you, Raven, I. I use other things on the line in this quarter and they're making the free throws and probably a little bit of a quick shot by back down on the other end.
They really needed to answer you down six.
Like I said, this team very, very disciplined and they get that lead in the fourth quarter.
They're going to be hard to come back.
That's the fourth one.
Hughes You see the numbers on Troy Morris, the outstanding junior.
Look, the curse of Herb White strikes again.
So what do we say on those situations, Kyle, You two.
The second opportunity was up, and then for 47 to 40, a seven point lead approaching the danger mark right now in terms you had to get a quality look here, wheeling around inside, throwing it up his back and a rebound controlled by Wilkins stolen back away from Blackwood County and we have a whistle as the ball was floating on the floor.
Jack.
Right now in the midst of a 15 two run with seconds it's just a second foul DACA and six fouls on Blakely and the next one to be the one and one for DACA.
So again, all about getting quality looks down here on the offensive end.
Now first of all listen that's Pitts driving into the lane That's a good ball play.
Take it to the rack knocked out of bounds and the royals retain possession.
They'll inbound it underneath their own basket quick inbounds and the throw up shot follow great effort there by Ben Mario back to get that rebound looked like Wilkins was going to pull it down and that just went in there and he wanted it more and that was a big three point play Vancouver here, Pharaoh the miss and back there for the follow You see the wild shot right there by Pharoah right over Louis to get that one a scoop here What Wilkinson said back with the opportunity to complete a three point plan.
He does it.
Louis will get the rebound and head to Wilkins, to Morrison.
Just looking at the ball rejected by Pat stolen back away from short in a mad scramble.
They're going to do it and it goes to Jason.
Well Swenton got bailed out there, tried to go in on that one.
He really didn't have the shot and lucky to get that ball back.
Serious ups, but without the ball to that shot.
Manager Eric Glanville That quick leaper from a flat footed position to let Simpson stay here and make it as you go inside the huddle with Turbo and head coach quickly counting 47 to 4628 here in the fourth.
Just a reminder coming up, Miller Grove and Southwest the Cavs the girls that'll be a repeat of last year's boys state championship that was played by Gwinnett and Kathy Walters.
And the Lady Panthers have had an eye on this basketball game since last year.
They'll play for the five eight title and then 845, the approximate dip, the Gainesville Red of elephants already claiming a five, a football title will try to go for the Daily Double and get the basketball championship.
But they got to wrestle it away from the four time champs, Miller Grove and Sean White.
That coming up approximately 845 tonight and day two here.
Macon, glad to have you with us here on GPB Morrison to board a three credit GCA for finding the right guy that Boyd is the one they want to look for get the open three he has 13 right now 5242 where he approached the six minute mark that split Taylor they trying to find Clarke but excellent defense by Wilkins who avoids the front backing him in is back against Wilkins follows his own shot that missed the rebound control by Lewis and a foul coming over the back and that's that may be four on back and if it is Herb that's big well frustration there on back where he had the shot looked like it was there you see Cam Boyd with the shot from outside and it is 4000 feet down on the other end back looked like he had the shirt to hit the back of the rim and bounced out and he just went over Wilkins back the rebound for Lewis back to me you know Chris Olson and Claire Simmons have been challenging everybody to like us at Facebook.
They want to get to 5000.
We're proud now at 3100.
And Herb says he wants to see 5000 by the close of business tomorrow night, whatever they got out on Facebook.
So get on Facebook and us and you may get a shout out from Grace Olson.
I'll cover first opportunity by Lewis is good I don't like it 51 to 42 543 left for Eddie Martin and company to possibly take a state championship back to that Indian play.
Okay.
And we've got a ten lead now for greater Atlanta Christian.
It's still doable for Blackwood County, but they have got to get a deuce or a three down here on this end and then come up with some stops on other end without fouling because greater Atlanta Christian looking like they're going to knock down some free throws and they'll be shooting one on one from here on out, you to wall to work and against and back over to Farrell.
That's Hughes tries to put it over the trees and Lewis and Wilkinson fails to do so.
The Spartans with a rebound.
That's Morrison sweat getting instructions from Coach Martin and they're going to burn some of that cloth as they run their offense in the perimeter.
Lewis fakes it to the boy around the horn.
This SWINTON So Morrison Trying to get Wilkins down low and off the double team.
And Lewis, the board fakes the three back out to Lewis dump down to Swinton up and in excellent ball recognition and passing in the half court the lead swells to 12 with 54 to 42.
So you're right, it's flawless execution one on one there on how to pass the ball around, pass the ball around, run some clock and then get the quality three missed by Walters rebound for four on the floor and the Spartans have it in the person of boy to Lewis to Morrison J.C. on a 22 to 5 run runs it and for a dominant and their first games here this afternoon we saw Wesley and what a big run over Laney and we're seeing greater Atlanta Christian with Iran here against Bletchley in the hard foul on Morrison that'll send them to the line they talked about the great ball movement the great job by our guys in the truck courtesy of the commander Steve Graham.
Look at this what you didn't see the first five or six passes that they had, of course, with no shot clock in high school.
You're not rushed and that's just what you want to do.
The foul on Ferrell his first and Morrison Connect scored his first opportunity at the charity stripe of Leslie County up to now basically 4 minutes to go I look for some they're going to have to come with some kind of a press.
I would imagine if they can score the ball in the entrance of the memorial park with four fouls, with 12 with to confirm what you just said, it is panic time right now for them.
The second opportunity for Myers is good, 56 to 42.
That equals our biggest lead of this basketball game here this afternoon.
And at 358 in the fourth quarter, James ABC and the that came down they said they brought like seven or eight busses.
They're starting to feel it here and make it 40 time right now for them.
So Coach Martin called that timeout, wants to get his guys over and say look it fellows 14 point lead let's just take our time.
They're probably going to try to press now if they score, they're going to definitely be coming after us.
If they don't score, trying to put pressure on us, all we got to do is make good passes and go to the free throw line here.
Blake you know, GPB Sports had a Facebook page and check us out right now.
Like us, Herb White says, let us be part of the GPP sports family.
You see behind the scenes pictures.
Get the info of all the high school sports around the state like and you'll be in the know of all things about high school sports, not only here in Georgia, but also around the country and worldwide.
And I want to echo what Claire Simms and Grace Olsen have said.
There's a mandate.
It was delivered last night by clear sense.
We want to reach 5000.
In fact, statistician Kevin Barnes says the Dow has closed over 14,000.
The Facebook closes over 5000 at the close of business tomorrow.
As we go off the air, we got to have 5000 likes.
Facebook will have about as much effect on my bank account as the Dow will.
I can tell you that.
Yeah, just 36 to 42, 352.
We're counting down Blake Lee in a hole.
And with the basketball right now, that's Pharaoh over the pits.
They look for back down low and we have a stoppage play that's provided by the West Georgia Technical College unit of technical college system in the great state of Georgia.
Eight eight.
Great job by those guys here this afternoon.
The turnover score retained by the Spartans.
That's Morrison just in front of us at the broadcast table here and making the Wilkins out high 318 to go as we approach the three minute mark Mark Morrison to the rack a second shot and they do it back controls the rebound the Taylor he fakes the three backs up the back that's going to launch a three and get it that's a three minute mark and quickly coach Curveball to tie it up 56 to 45.
Roy Well I was about to say for I lost my microphone that I thought that was about time to start looking for the three.
I would either go inside back and let him collapse the defense and kick it back out or find somebody to penetrate and kick it out for the open three.
Well, that was deep there.
It was way downtown.
It looked like it was all away from here to Savannah halfway, but still 3 minutes to go and 11 point lead.
It's doable.
That's for possessions.
You see the numbers on track together for fouls.
We've got to keep an eye on two assists, eight rebounds and, 14 points.
And like I said, our next session here tonight coming up for Miller Girls, Girls, this is the Southwest, the jazz girls.
And they all play double Against.
No, it was the defending champion Floyd Mayweather performing tonight.
And of course, we'll be back for an 845 approximate to the boys five eight state championships will be available.
The red elephants trying to do what they did during the football season and win one and take one back.
It goes well in their way for the four time champion MG show, right?
I believe has done his best job of coaching and the coach loves Brendan Morris a beauty and Tony Parker's at UCLA, but he continues to get it done and he is the best, best coach in the state and he gets smart and it's a lot of folks around the state on hand, but he's certainly a great one.
Here is his own press and he starts with no problem with this one.
That's about the Morris Wilkins right now, a double double to 12 points, 12 rebounds.
So her take us through right now to 242 more to go down by 11 and you're blocked.
Look can you take us in the mind Coach Kerber?
Well, he's doing what he can do.
He went into the zone press and you got to try to come up with some steals, try to do it without sirens.
Go ahead.
I'm going to call that one.
So I guess Taylor inside and let's get him on the free throw line two close to 40 to go.
I think it's a little early to start fouling, but before foul was split, Taylor, he stayed with some Morris into the line.
You know look at Coach Kerr though Thomasville native doing great things they have been working with him now it's all about good looks Got to get some good looking at the three big ball here that's a call And you and other city kids used to rely.
What did we see her to say?
well I'm just going with the impact.
But yeah, I was definitely a foul of the defense and I like the penetration but he was going to try to finish.
If I'm penetrating, I'm going to kick it out for the three down 11 with 230 to go just about got to have some three pointers.
Savon Walters in the basketball game right now look like we're counting sugar in the inbounds shoot for miss by the aforementioned numbers for Casey to miss by the chippy by Louis does what you see do the foul ball for the basket the GHC ahead for offensive players down on the floor for Bradley got more than two down here kind of surprised they didn't get that quarter on defense foul on Walters his second went in Australia had senior for the time out at the 218 mark a full time out here in making you see the concern so I'm out situations right now here of likely counting with one in greater Atlanta Christian with two timeouts not really critical at this stage when you're down 11 that he just going to have to come down and start firing and hopefully come up with some steals on defense.
You got to make some shots before you can press.
So you really got to hope you can make something and then you can set up your press and hopefully get some steals or turnovers.
Right now in the fourth quarter, field goals, likely two of nine GHC, three of six tickets inside the huddle for the coaches telling their team.
Well again I think you know they've got to get three pointers out here for flexing it's 218 especially in high school since there's no shot clock.
I mean, you know, they can just run track on the other end.
So you've got to move as many points as you can every possession.
And Coach Martin, of course, telling those guys, just stick with exactly what you're doing.
You've been doing it well.
They're spreading the floor out.
They've got good ball handlers, They're all intelligent.
They make the right pass.
And this pretty good free throw shooter.
So tough task for Black Hawk County right now where there's a lot of Christian in the mix of the 24 at eight one.
So you know there's an opportunity to increase that and he knows what he's all about so do 745 the lead at 12 driving to the rack and laying it off glass that's huge.
The rebound control by greater Atlanta Jewell and Morris is fouled in the back court and that'll send them to the line and you see GCA kind of back off they're willing to give up the two point shot that they it that was going to hurt him that much and well I tell you, it's a coach's worst nightmare to be behind in the fourth quarter to a team like greater Atlanta Christian.
There's just some teams that they're so well coached and so disciplined and ready for every occasion that they're just very difficult to come back on in these situations.
The third foul on seven, Walter.
You know, I tell what both of these respective student bodies and fan bases that came down and supported these basketball teams here today, it's been a great turnout.
We've had a great ballgame.
And JCA has just been able to pull away here midway through the fourth quarter.
And so that's been fantastic ball game.
And you're right, it's been an outpouring of fans from Bledsoe County.
Just fill in this place up 59 to 45 and the turnover by Blackwood County at how they give the ball turn it over and the concern again on coach Carville face like with the press but the Spartans are able to work it and a follow up there by number 20 Tyler Hamilton 61 to 45 to it six team That's our biggest lead of this afternoon baseline after he puts the miss and the rebound by Walters and we have found Louis on the rebound Well let's see what was the contribution from what we found is we're going to exit the major coliseum just on Monday night program here on GPP at the conclusion of this basketball game here this afternoon.
The girls five eight Miller girls in South Florida.
Can John Nelson Golden are standing by for Gail in the words of all right let's take a look at the future of mama's boy.
Play for daddy was I in the game The fourth grader that Christian's most of their free throws have come here in the fourth quarter.
But as old mama would say, the next best thing to play in and winning is playing and losing.
So we can do to accept, right, right now.
But you know we play for a championship game is bitter disappointment.
I know I played for the state championship and lost but over the years you take a lot of pride and just getting there because it takes a lot to get to the championship game.
Morrison offers to get out to Lewis Creek, spreading it out right now.
Going into the fourth quarter and so on, and that's what's happening in the middle.
And it's a series for the side where you can feel it.
That's a fluid and a foul and that will send mostly to the line, nice car bars, food producers, three brandies that you know, possible those close games have taken a toll on Blakely County and doesn't look like it has physically.
I haven't seen any let down but sometimes emotionally, those things gain, especially when you get down six or seven or eight points in the fourth quarter.
But there's no quit in this team, but they just come up against the team.
Like I said, they get a little lead on in the fourth quarter and they know how to handle it.
A lot of teams let you back in the ballgame, but greater Atlanta Christian, you're going to have to climb your way back in against them.
They're not going to give it to you first, Lamar Morris.
And it's good that Eagles are biggest lead at 1621 game winning streak for the Royals that wins over Vandalia, Jordan and West Side.
Augusta heading in.
And people look at that score, the final score, it's a blowout.
But you're right now not indicative of the kind of ball game we've had here today.
Our biggest lead of 63 to 46 missed opportunity by Scott Taylor.
He's going to try it again, launching it and he gets it and they're putting him in a quick out to burn it.
Coach Curveball, it may be too little too late.
I can't say enough about the block.
Lake County fan base made the 45 minute trip on Cochran and, of course, the home of Middle Georgia College.
There was.
Yeah, great style is great athletic department have come up that's been one of the powers in baseball over the years down there and fans from J.C. serenading some of their Franklin County counterparts in the building with the hey hey, good bye chant.
Some might think it's a little cruel, but kids are having fun.
And that's what it's all about a AC run of 31 to 12.
We saw it earlier in the girls game at Wesleyan.
And I want to say congratulations again.
The Japanese are six straight now, ten overall.
They down Laney, 76 to 43 in the early game.
And I got to believe that 33. baskets by Wesleyan at the close of the first half and then that big run to start the second half propelled Jennings own company to their sixth straight championship.
That was in earlier games, 76 to 43.
Still to come, Miller drove Southwest to cap hit the girls and then Gainesville, Miller Grove with the boys for the five state championship.
Round out data here and make it up.
We've had a lot of challenges trying to dethrone some of these perennial champions and and Columbia was taken down last night by an outstanding very talented and leaders landing team.
But Fletcher County gave it all they had went three, three and a half quarters toe to toe with JCA.
Give it a go you're going to get it done.
And Gainesville, who's got to be kind of a sentimental favorite for a lot of people going up against heavily favored I would imagine Miller Grove team even though L.A. Grove like you mentioned, losing so many players and able to get back to the championship again, just incredible in this quarter to get your has been able to accomplish the greatest coach in georgia.
The best best coach always wears a vest.
Okay, best.
So we're going to get some more sutures here before this one is over.
But basically it is over and it's, again, greater Atlanta Christian with an impressive display here.
Blackhawk County like we talked about, if they could have got this thing and kept it close in the fourth quarter, I think they'd had real good shot at pulling it out.
But it wasn't to be.
And again, we see somebody who's been here done that.
We saw Jan earlier.
Now we see anymore what is it about those two programs that make them successful?
I talked about Angie Embry, wherever she's, you know, been a part of, you know, now at North Cross and of course had their great run at Collinsville with Maya moore.
Gabby Walton has done the same thing in southwest DeKalb.
What is it about the way you win championships all throughout year with your practice?
Because these players are so well drilled, they know exactly what they want to do.
Coach Martin tells them this.
You know, going to this, going to that, this is what we're going to be doing now.
And you saw it midway through that half when they are midway through the fourth quarter when they went into that spread offense, just started making the good pass, looking for something easy or not taking a bad shot at or getting the foul and going to the free throw line and they just executed it flawlessly.
All five starters for great Atlanta Christian in double figures here to go.
Yeah well we knew everybody on their team every position especially the starters can score and it's great team chemistry and they just do a great job But bear hug from Coach Martin.
The slogan excellent floor game by him.
He and Morrison able to control things as everything going on through the bench.
Now.
Great ball game for that young man, especially on the defensive end.
The stepson of the NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, his left, I really thought was a factor.
They were very good.
His ability to step out and pop it and also work on the interior as well.
Hugs, happy, happy.
Joy, Joy.
25 chicks remain.
That was really looking forward to getting to look at the young man.
Heard a lot of good things about him and he certainly lived up to everything I've heard about six feet, seven, six, seven and a half, but with extremely long arms and a wide reach, plays a little taller than he is.
Greater Atlanta Christian hailing from Region six.
And we talked about that earlier.
Outstanding athletic director for this nominal staff over there do it the right way.
So now the folks in black Lee County will remember this squad for many, many years to come.
I know it's tough for them.
It's a bitter pill to swallow for this team, but they've had a sensational season, won some out, beat some outstanding teams in the playoffs to get here.
And these kids have been walking around that county for years to come.
People are going to remember what they've done for the county 28 and three heading in and carrying the banner of Region four.
Like Lee County, roads have got down down Decatur on the state championship just last week and we were runner up.
So, hey, like I said, it's it's a real credit just to get here and play for this Talk about that getting here and staying here and keeping it at such a great level, something that they want African-American able to do.
Well, yeah.
I mean, it's amazing.
These teams in Georgia, we have several of them that have just established Dynasty year after year after year, and they've come up against really quality opponents like this Flagler County team in the championship game.
And yet they're able to pull it out.
And it's still it's just good coaching and execution critical time with two free throws made by Derek Covington making it a 6752 game now 3 seconds and a foul little frustration coming out there with Kenny that will send Charles Butch way to the line.
The freshman won't really understand the foul with 3.3 seconds to go but from the first one up and we got another opportunity be happy to be on that on that scoring ladder on and another well officiated game You know anytime you don't know notice the officials it means is a quality game.
We've had outstanding officiating coach all weekend so far 69 to 62 and that's the biggest thing that the game and that's going to be the final point margin 6952 Eddie Martin in the world championship in 2010 2011 and now 2013 you get a feel for what's going on in Macon.
Well, you don't think these guys get jaded?
They certainly don't win several championships in a row because you can tell that by on the kids faces, it means a lot to him no matter how many times they win.
See Isaiah Wilkins at a double double here this afternoon, 12 points and ten rebounds.
Is Andy Martin receiving hugs from his lovely bride?
Now he's over with our Raven Tirado.
Raven, it's all yours.
And send our congratulations to coach Eddie Martin.
Coach, looking back before you started this whole crazy deal, did you ever imagine to eight titles in eight years?
No.
You know, that's something to see this you came to dream about something like that.
You know, I was laying on my career for over one month.
It just shows what can happen when you got some good kids that buy into what you do.
Definitely.
What was the defining moment in this game when you knew you had it?
I'm not sure I ever knew.
We had until the horn finally sounded right there.
But when we started going to the free throw line and making free throws and they had the foul, I felt pretty good at that point.
Well, Coach, congratulations.
You're a legend.
Thank you.
Back to you guys.
Hard Raven.
Thank you, Coach Martin We say thank you.
Titles in 1011 and 13.
The Double-A champions belong to Greater Atlanta Christian 69 to 52 over Blakeslee County.
Host game continues the championship awards and all that far from Michael after this game and it's time now for the trophy presentation of the two AA boys state championship.
And for that I gave it to Ernie Yarborough of the GHC coach on behalf of Dr. Swearengen and the Georgia High School Association.
We want to congratulate you and your team on a terrific, terrific game and a state championship.
Congratulations, Coach.
Coach, talk a little bit about what this victory means.
You've got the ball, you've got the trophy.
You got a lot of smiles here.
Well, it's hard to smile right now.
I mean, this these bunch of guys I've worked hard all year long.
They had a goal early in the year and I think that came to fruition tonight.
They did a great job.
I'm very proud of them.
Well, congratulations, Tyler Hamilton.
We got you standing here.
What's it mean for you to win the state championship trophy?
It's mind blowing.
This is something I've been dreaming about ever since I came into high school.
I love all these dudes and we've been working all year for this.
And Coach Martin has been leading this entire year preparing for us to prepare for this.
Hey, Cam Boyd, I know you're one of the leaders on this team.
Talk a little about taking home the championship trophy for the GHC.
It feels great.
All my brothers are here.
We ain't here just representing GHC.
The crowd over there.
I want to start out, y'all, because you know, we're here because of y'all.
We're here.
Colin Swinton, Can you table and raise that trophy up and tell me what it means to you to win the state championship your senior year?
It means a lot, man, to go out like this, win a state championship.
This is unbelievable.
I can't even put into words how good this is.
It's unbelievable.
My coach, we'll give you the last word here.
Talk about your fans over there, all dressed in white, the big white out from greater Atlanta Christian.
Hey, we started out the week with about four or five fan bases.
The we will bring you now to hear that group of folks right down here behind us all year long.
And they're just as much a part of this as these guys up here are.
Well, congratulations to you.
Crowd the graduations, your team, congratulations, your fans out there.
GRC is the two way state champions for the boys.
Thank you very much.

my gosh.
It's amazing.
All right.
You know, we're enjoying the boys and girls.
Jace High basketball Championships, but we're already hard at work here.
JB On our upcoming football season.
That season will kick off with the huge pigskin palooza that we call the quirky Cal classic.
Here's a look.
For the third year in a row, Georgia Public Broadcasting will proudly bring you every pass, run, block and tackle as the 2013 Georgia High School football season kicks off in the Georgia Dome with the 22nd annual Corky Cal Classic.
Now, Corky Cal Classic began way back in 1991 to honor longtime and athletic director Corky Shell.
And this season opening extravaganza of punts, passes and kicks is the perfect way to begin the year.
Bright and early 9 a.m. it's breakfast at the Dome as the Cal Longhorns will host the 2010 four state champion Chattahoochee Cougars.
At 1145.
It's the Lions Peachtree Ridge taking on the Raiders of Walton in the third game of the day.
It's a great matchup as the Grayson Rams, the 2011 five state champs take on powerhouse in the southern part of the state.
The Packers of Colquitt County with kickoff slated for 230.
Then another big time Southern program will journey north game four as the Camden County Wildcats take on coach Bob Spire and his high flying bulldogs of North Gwinnett High School at 530.
Then the prime time game as the 2010 state five eight champion.
The Brookwood Broncos collide with the McEachern Indians, a team loaded with returning starters.
Don't miss the 20 cookout classic kicking off right nearly 9 a.m. for a day long high school football extravaganza here on the great GPB.
All right, Time now to welcome in one of the stars here to see one of the guys that made it all happen for the Spartans.
We welcome in Isaiah Wilkins, Isaiah, talk a little bit of what it means to you to win the state championship today.
It means everything.
You know, we work on this on summer league.
We started in summer league.
We got knocked out early last year, so we had to come back and get it for the seniors.
This is now fans.
Wilkins is the last name.
If that sounds familiar.
That's because your dad is Dominique Wilkins.
Yes, sir.
What's it like having Dominique as a dad and you say he's in the here today?
Must be very proud.
Yeah, he's here somewhere.
It's a lot, you know, he helps me.
My game is always because I believe in him.
So I guess you know what?
Here's what I want to know about the crowd.
I mean, you guys have great fans.
How important are the fans to you, man?
They're like my brothers and sisters, You know, at school, they just great.
They came down on nine busses down here from our school about an hour and 30 minutes away.
So they mean a lot to us.
Now, you're a junior.
You guys won in 2010, you won in 2011, Now you win in 2013.
That's three out of four.
That's not bad.
Not bad at all.
Yes, sir.
How about next year?
You're a junior coming back.
Talk about the team coming back.
And we have a really young team.
We're graduating two seniors, Collin and Zoey.
So we plan to be back here next year.
Now, for those of us that watch the Today in Georgia history class, as you said you saw yesterday about the Human Highlights films.
Let's talk about that a little bit.
I was sitting down watching the game with my grandparents and they asked a question about my dad and I. I know the answer to how you knew what was coming up.
Yes, sir.
All right.
That is excellent.
Well, thank you.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
And congratulations to the future.
We're going to be looking forward to big things from you now.
Thank you.
All right.
Isaiah Wilkins from GRC, two way stay champ.
That sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
It does.
It sounds great.
All right.
Thanks very much.
Thank me.
Well, the excitement continues.
That's right.
The girls five, eight game is up next.
Let's check in with Jon Nelson and Shawn Golden for what to expect Regions region.
Thanks game preview.
Thank you very much.
I'm Jon.
That's Shawn and when you look at these two teams shawn, the biggest thing that steps out at you is the uncharacteristic number of times that they played this year.
Five times.
That's right ladies and gentlemen, five times.
This is the fifth meeting between Southwestern Camp and Miller Grove the entire year.
This is the most important game, John, because you got two games, the regular season.
They also met in the conference tournament conference, tournament championship game, which Southwest have won.
But then they met during the Christmas time in the Peach State game.
So this is what it counts.
Everything boils down to this, this one one game and you talk about meeting five times.
They know everything backwards and forwards.
There will not be any secrets this time around?
No secrets.
But here's the thing.
You want to play with your strengths, not your weaknesses.
And that's exactly what both coaches understand.
What's the strength and weaknesses versus their opponents tonight?
But you have to maintain your composure.
There's a lot of excitement there, a lot of expectations, especially for Miller Grove with a chance to repeat.
Okay, 10 seconds, give me an answer.
Who do you think has the edge, if anybody, Milagro, Miller Grove is going to come out here tonight.
That last loss versus southwest southwestern cap in the conference championship game sparked a feel of fire underneath Milagro.
So it's about what you think and what you know, Right?
Exactly right.
All right.
Let's send it back over to the best seat in the house with Mark and Kat.
Guys, back to you.
John and John thanks very much.
We welcome now in the executive director of the HSA, Dr. Ralph Swearingen.
And we've had four crowned champions yesterday.
Two champions crowned today.
So far, so good.
What's your take as the executive director?
It's been great.
We've had great basketball.
We've had great crowds, no real controversies, knock on wood.
Yeah.
It's just been a wonderful, exciting celebration of basketball.
You know, one thing that strikes me is the crowd.
There's just a lot of enthusiasm here at the Coliseum.
You just take that last game between Greater Atlanta, Christian and black.
We kind of brought bus bus loads full of people down.
it's been incredible that we had Gordon Lee started off yesterday coming, I think, a five hour bus trip and everything.
And they had a fan bus loaded that the folks today have come in in droves.
It really means a lot to the culture of the school and these communities to be able to have something to be proud of.
And it's it's been a good thing.
What's it been like for you when you see these teams raise trophy's high and celebrate excellence here in the state of Georgia?
Well, I think it's a great thing, but it means more.
You know, we we have one team in each classification that gets the championship trophy, but we have stories all over the state, many of which you guys have covered about the great and wonderful successes that these schools are having, these athletes that are learning things and growing and developing.
I'm proud for the champions.
You feel for those that are the state up, but that's not a bad place to be.
And you recognize that a lot of other people have benefited throughout the year.
We've got about 30 seconds left.
Over 400 schools trying to get in the playoffs.
Talk just about the largeness of this tournament because Ernie Yarbrough does a good job once they get down here.
But it's a big undertaking to get from 400 down to the final 28.
It really is.
You know, all the regular season stuff, the region tournaments are going into all the rounds of the playoffs, a lot of stuff going on and it takes a lot of organization.
Well, Dr. Ralph words, and we appreciate you coming on live with us here.
We'll see you tomorrow as well.
We'll talk more about these championships.
And boy, we got a good one coming.
Coming up next with the girl, five great games.
All right.
Back to Ralph's version of the HSA.
Thanks so much.

All right, thanks very much.
It's time now to check in with Kat Carney.
She is surrounded by some wild and enthusiastic fans that cheer for their team.
Are you guys ready?
Let's hear it.
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Is that way too much feeling that way?
This way?
Yes.
All right.
Do you you feel it?
You know, here's why.
I don't know.
Why do you guys believe so much?
We just love our team and they're really good.
And we think our coaches so much and our fans and everybody, we just believe in them.
They're a great team and we just love it so much.
You know, and she was just telling me that she wants to be a broadcaster when she gets out of school.
I think you're very good.
Don't you guys think she's got.
Thank you.
You know, we're going to go out.
Tell us one more time.
What's the word you got for everybody right now, Colin?
Swenton.
All right.
You heard it right?
I talked to Collins.
Went up on the dais up there, handing out the trophy.
Very good, player.
Congratulations, GHC, the two a boys champ.
Let's now out the Georgia EMC High School basketball scoreboard.
The two girls Wesleyan wins for a 10th time, and the boys two eight was Jackie over black Lee County 69 to 52.
Coming up next, we've got Miller Grove Girls taking on Southwest the Gap.
And then in the nightcap, around 845, we've got the Gainesville Red Elephants taking on Miller Grove.
Don Nelson is going to call this next game.
And recently he and I got to do something very unique.
We went ziplining with David Zell Ski, which is always an experience, a Georgia Traveler adventure, where you jump off 100 foot towers if it's 65 miles an hour.
You ready?
I'm ready.
I don't know if we're ready, but this time, the zip line.
What am I doing by myself?
I was a perfect man.
This is not team building at all.
This is team fear.
I'm safe.
He's out there.
But Bookbook Mar.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
My first run of the day, Zil ski rigs it and I have to be rescued.
The damsel in distress.
Topping out at around 35 miles an hour.

This is my first year coming to the basketball championships, but I know I will be back for more.
And if you're watching at home right now, you know, can people still come tomorrow?
Absolutely.
I have six games tomorrow.
Wow.
Six games tomorrow.
But we're getting ready now for the girls five day state championship game.
We're back with the tip offs after this timeout.
