All right.
Thank you Gil.
Matt Stewart and Chuck Oliver with you upstairs here at the Georgia, Dome, Buford and Calhoun meeting in the double A State title game for the third consecutive year that has never happened in Georgia, high school football history.
Of course Buford won the first two 45:21 and 2007 9:47 last year, but Calhoun has back 14 and on the season.
Despite graduating Star Quarterback, Nash Nance and star wide receiver to Rick Rogers off to the Tennessee Volunteers.
That's because their quarterback land and Kurt has waited.
His turn has had a Spectacular Senior.
When you lose Talent, like man's and like Rogers, you're supposed to have some sort of drop off, aren't you?
Not all offensively for the Calhoun Yellow Jackets?
This year they have rolled right along.
And as you said the right arm of land and Curtis 32, touchdowns two picks, you see it right there, expect to see him connecting all afternoon with this huge Target on the outside and I mean huge 63 wide receiver, JT Palmer.
And when Landon Curtis isn't throwing the ball in the spread offense he's handing off to his running back.
Number 5, Dustin Christian who's committed to Chattanooga, not the biggest kid in the world but the Action is huge and see if there are over 1,500 yards.
Almost eight yards a carry, he will be a constant threat on the ground, all afternoon, for the Yellowjackets.
Earlier.
This week, we caught up in Calhoun head coach, Hal Lamb and he told us what to expect from the yellow jackets.
Offensively.
We're going to be a spread type offense.
We're going to throw the ball around.
We're going to get in four wide receivers.
We're going to try to be 50/50 run paths.
And you know we want to get our ball, the ball to our our kids in space and try to Make plays defensively.
We're a 33 team and we're going to bring a lot of pressure.
We're going to be a Zone coverage team mainly in the secondary, but we like to bring pressure and put some pressure on the offense.
And howl am trying to win a state championship as a coach E11 is a player is a wide receiver on his daddy's team.
The 1981 Commerce team that won the state championship that year close to 30 years ago.
Now, this Buford team is gunning for a history of Victory.
Today would be their fourth straight state championship.
Only one other team has ever done that in State history.
That was West Rome back in the early 80s.
A victory today would also be their seventh state title in 10 years.
They are led by their quarterback.
Alex Ross, Chuck who is committed to Carolina been lucky enough to do a couple of this kids games.
He has broken.
Or at least tied most of the passing records held by former Georgia Bulldog and Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
Tim walz Lee, obviously completely different, quarterbacks, 62 200 pounds, Big Arm, so good, throwing the football.
These actually convince the Buford staff to kind of opened things up a little bit and throw it downfield.
Well, they can open things up and turn things over to their defense, allowing just nine points per game, led by their undersized defensive end, Rick Legrand, you say, undersized, he's about the same dimensions as quarterback, Alex Ross.
This may be a Founder to heavier, but Matt, they spend the evening in the same place.
The backfield Le grants game is getting in the back field, causing pressure getting sacks and tackles for loss now.
Their head coach is Jess Simpson was 81 and for, since taking over for Dexter would and earlier this week, he told us what to expect from the wolves.
Offensively we're still basing out of the eye.
We're led by Alex Ross or senior quarterback, who is a two-year starter and is a great senior season.
He's really manage the game well for us and made great decisions with the ball.
We have a talented group of running backs both at fullback in tailback.
We got about five or six different guys, it'll carry the football offensive line has been a good group, who's really come on tight ends and block.
Well, we've got receivers seniors that have made plenty.
Eyes on defense.
We're a little more multiple.
We're 34 and 43.
We're dividing that up about 50% of the time defensive line is, those guys have done a good job, getting pressure on quarterbacks and then our perimeter guys are linebackers and secondary are very athletic and we're starting probably nine, underclassmen on defense is Friday.
And by the way, just Simpsons.
Buford wolves have never lost a playoff game here at the Georgia Dome, the third member of our broadcast.
God cast him as Nicki Noto.
And she's down on the sideline Nikki.
Hey, thanks guys.
First of all I just want to let you know when I talked to Coach Jess Simpson from Buford he said, as always, he is excited to be here.
He also said it was an honor to be playing in the dome.
Like, you guys mentioned earlier right after the SEC Championship, and as an auburn red, I'm sure he was proud of that outcome and I'm sure he's hoping for a similar outcome today.
Now, as far as coach lamb and Calhoun is concerned, well, he got his guys out here hours before the game just to make sure those pre-game Jitters.
We're gone and one by one.
And I saw the guys go to the goalposts.
They hit him.
And I also saw some Mohawks on the lineman, in the lineman told me Hank.
We've been lucky with the Mohawks all year and they're hoping that they'll have the same outcome today.
So they're rocking the Mohawks today, guys.
So being a lookout for that back to you in the booth.
All right?
Thank you.
Nikki Chuck's gonna carve a mohawk into his head.
At the end of the day is game.
So stick around for that the Buford Wolves and the Calhoun Yellow Jackets, double A State final coming up next right here on GPB.

Semi final demolition of Love At Last Week.
Here Comes Calhoun at 14 and 0 upset winners over.
Number one right.
Carver Columbus last week 27 to 14 is they shut down star running back, Isaiah Crowell helped him to less than one Hundred yards in that big semi final win.
Calhoun won the opening cause they have deferred.
Buford will go on offense first Calhoun and their home light jerseys and white pants.
Trimmed in black and Vegas.
Gold Beaufort sporting the forest green jerseys with the Vegas gold, and right next door.
Chuck Oliver Nicki Noto.
Thanks for joining us for the Georgia.
A School Association, double a state championship game at the Georgia Dome.
The first of five, contests over the next 48 hours to the side football Supremacy in the state of Georgia.
The opening kick will sell into the end zone and so the Buford wolves will start on offense at their 20-yard line.
There's their quarterback, number 9, Alex Ross, a 62 198 pounds senior, see his career numbers, 3339 passing yards, and 34 touchdowns.
Both of those numbers.
Second all-time the Tim Walmsley.
First hand off of the game, goes to the fullback Andre Johnson.
He gets just a couple of yards on the play.
Here's a look at the starting lineup for Buford on offense.
The doll Alexander.
He is huge in the big-time College, Prospect Mac Burge, sweat and cardiel.
Oh who's just a sophomore on that offensive line?
Swope the running back questionable today with turf toe, see on Jones.
The tailback English head are the wide receivers and Freitag is the tide in.
He's another big-time Just a junior second down and seven.
Pass is thrown.
It's complete to Jamal.
English English up to the 40 yard line and a first down for the Buford wolves.
17-yard pickup of the first pass of the day just pitching catch roll out near Side.
Open receiver in English breaks off the route.
Matt, he had about five yards.
Separation on the defensive bag, outstanding throw there by Alex, Ross, all that tight spiral, easy catch First and Ten ball at the 40 yard line.
Jamal English with his 12th couch, quick dead 12 catch of the Year, sorry about that.
A senior 57 £145 its first and ten from the 40 yard line, Swope on the Kerry didn't gain much.
Dominique Swope.
Number 21 was questionable coming into the ball game with turf toe suffered a severe toe injury in the victory over love it.
Here's a look at Calhoun on defense Roberts, Parker and Alan up front Frick's who just made the tackle night Kirby and Freeman of the linebackers.
And in the secondary long replacing young Everett Bieber and Palmer.
Jacob young back home.
Number 31, you'll see his number on the back of their helmets.
He had to undergo an appendectomy, this weekend.
Not with the team today.
So a timeout called by Buford was second and seven coming up.
I'll make sure they get their personnel right matting.
And, you know, on that first care, you mentioned, Andre Johnson, not 21 Dominique's.
Whoa, It's a kid that we're going to see some of today, but he's not 100%.
As you mentioned, a turf toe injury, I was lucky enough to do.
The Buford Westminster game.
I'm thinking week 3, and really slopes coming out party.
And for the next several weeks was able to really integrate himself.
Be part of that offense, but he's a banged-up kid right now.
Just, a moment ago, you saw how lamb the head coach of this Calhoun ballclub.
Wearing number 31 on the bill of his cap.
That's the number.
But Jacob Young Who unfortunately, is not with the team today.
Buford wolves.
Spectacular season again, their 12th consecutive year.
In the state playoffs, they've won 19 consecutive playoff games, their last loss.
Back in 2006, Chuck a game you and I worked against Charlton County when Charlton County was led by that incredible Star Quarterback.
Dwight, Dasher who went on to Middle Tennessee, making a living up in Murfreesboro.
Now, second down and seven ball of 43.
Mark the tide in and motion spoke the handoff and does not get much stonewalled at the 45-yard line.
Heath Everett the outside linebacker, making the Stop and now it's going to be third down and five now.
Good job of Swope, stepping out of that first tackle.
But he winds up with only about a one yard game because Calhoun defense so fast.
Moving to the football by the time he's free, there's three or four more Yellow, Jacket Defenders right there, ready to put a helmet on him.
Third down and five coming up.
See heat Everett 83 tackles on the season three tackles for loss.
That's how you get all those little stars all over the house.
A lot of tackles 83 of them to be exact.
It's third down and five Passes thrown.
It is complete Jerkins downfield at the 40 yard line and a first down on a third, and 5 of 15, yard completion to trade, Jerkins just as fourth catch of the season.
And another first down for the walls, a tremendous job for Ross, Rowling Far Side.
Watch how they stack the Epi tection, their kind of want a wall, everything off inside Durkins able to catch the football knocked out of bounds of the still a completion and a first down for the wolves.
Great job.
Getting that pass in in front.
Cornerback actually.
And now number nine quarterback.
Alex Ross is to completion shy of tying.
Tim wands, Lee's career record of 2009.
Its first down and 10 from the 43 irk into motion again in the tallest.
This time goes to Eric Dive Bar gets to the outside pushed out of bounds inside.
The 5 touchdown saving both by Malcolm long.
The bar breaks off a big one and the Wolves will have it first.
And goal to go supposed to be a quick hitter.
Watch the line, dive out and chop legs right there on the left side.
And then bar just scoot right through the hole down the near sideline.
Let's be real careful that ball.
Got out at we're going to scrimmage on the 4-yard line right there, three and a half yard line.
Eric Bar number one, the best yards per carry average on the team.
Twelve point three yards per toad.
He just helped that average right there.
Its first and goal to go from the three Play gets blown dead as the handoff went to Andre Johnson.
Great mix of run pass on this first possession, man.
And we've seen that, you know, I've done so many Buford games that they have a pretty diverse offense, but it always is based off of play action and roll outs and things like that.
When I'm gonna throw it before the snap false start Mighty offense, five yards remains first down.
So now it'll be first and goal to go from the aid and Calhoun head coach, Hal Lamb confessed to us that preparing for Buford much more difficult than Carver despite Back, the Carver has star running back Isaiah Crowell because Buford has so many different weapons.
They can run at you.
Andre Johnson the full-back hopped in the whole picked up three yards down to the five Trent bricks and Alex Kirby in on the tackle for Calhoun.
Whatever it is coach Jess Simpson.
Did this entire day from the moment, he got out of bed, he kind of needs to say this itinerary Matt because you know, sometimes you worry about in Championship Games, whether you're going to be flat, can you get off to a fast, start, whatever.
Buford did.
Today, they need to try to replicate if they ever get back here.
Well, they actually went the second, third and fourth period classes.
Can you imagine that going to class on the day?
You're playing for the state championship?
How do you focus school?
Let out early.
So the kids could be here for this state championship game at second down and goal toss goes to see I'm Jones touchdown Poor yard touchdown run for see, I'm Jones.
It's his 13th rushing touchdown of the season and Buford has the early six-nothing lead.
Give a lot of credit to that Buford offense of lineman that the ball was snapped and the line of scrimmage was moving down field yard yard and a half.
It seemed to every single play.
Again, did a good job of mixing up the play calling, saw a couple of passes that Ross was able to complete and then the ground game took over even making up for that 5-yard, pre-snap penalty penalty before the snap David patroni number 15 on for the p80.
For Buford, he is 59 out of 62 on PA T attempts, encroachment by the kicking team, five yards, point after Not the worst place in the world to get a five-yard penalty minute.
Absolutely not maybe makes the kick a little bit easier.
Petronius sophomore who took over the kicking duties for the Buford wolves last year.
As a freshman, is added money to his resume this year and the p80 is good.
So, 3 minutes and 11 seconds into this ballgame, the Buford wolves have taken a 7-nothing.
Lead on the strength of a 80-yard drive capped by this 4-yard touchdown, run by sea on Jones.
And again, a great start by Buford.
Through the are mostly on the ground, which is what we expected.
And you were right to mention the diverse options in that backfield.
When you look at buford's leading, Brown gainers for the year at six and a half yards, seven, half yards as you said 12 yards.
Well, chuck all night on that opening drive of 80 yards.
Eight plays.
We saw four different running backs, touch the ball.
Dominic's won't see on Jones.
Eric bar had the big run inside the 5-yard line.
Andre Johnson also carried the ball and also Darien Smith who's been out with a shoulder injury lined up at tailback, although he did not get a handle on that drive.
Interesting that, you know, mention it every week, Matt, the first coaching decision of the game is always, if you win the toss, what you do Calhoun elected to go on defense, obviously didn't turn out the way they wanted their, but they still have a huge Advantage by doing that, that extra possession of the second half patroni with the kickoff, this will be returnable Dustin, Christian will take it at the five yard line and Christian tripped up at the 26.
Rick lagrant who will line up and play defensive end made the Special Teams tackle for the wolves.
And so the Calhoun Yellow Jackets go on offense from Their Own.
26-yard Line led by their quarterback number to land in Curtis.
Look at those numbers, the 32, 22, touchdown to interception ratio.
Chuck is mind-boggling, and you're going to see a lot of shotgun, but don't think this is a team that just flings it all around creation.
Obviously, as we told you the open, they can fix the ground game as well man.
They go empty backfield five, wides on their opening possession.
They are spread offensive team.
JT Palmer who you mentioned off the top of the broadcast chuck with an astounding 65 catches on the year and a little bit of an advantage formation wise because that's just pure man coverage.
First pass goes to JT Palmer and got batted down by the quarterback.
When a super play by CJ more nearly jumped, the route and almost had a pick six.
You got inside the block and Chase Ryerson number 21, and that's just a Des job their one-on-one, defeating the block and knock it over the pass.
Here's the starting lineup for the Yellowjackets on the line.
Cooper Carmichael's, the only returning starter from a year ago, King, valadares and King, Tyler, and Jacob, of course, the running back.
Christian, the wide receivers lamb.
Who is the son of the head?
Coach Ryerson, Palmer and Johnson.
2nd down and 10.
And dog Dustin Christian bag, whole Dustin Christian to the outside.
He goes across Midfield and Out of Bounds at the 45 touchdown saving Tackle by the linebacker Andre Johnson and that's what he does man.
It may not be Top Line speed but how about acceleration that's important to and watch this Kristen right through the line.
Covering up the football away, You're supposed to breaks to the outside and has a huge game.
Dustin Christian with close to 1600 yards now on the season.
A seven point seven, Per carry, average gets the rock.
Again, Bo is out.
It is.
Scoop is going to go back the other way.
Ryan Dillard touchdown Buford as much of an impact as a defensive player can have in a ballgame.
You get the scoop and score.
It look like it would have been a decent game there.
Either a hand or maybe a helmet right there in the football.
It pops right out.
Normally Very safe.
Ball Carrier.
There with Christian ball.
Pops out into the end zone.
Touchdown Buford wolves.
Just as Calhoun was starting to gain some momentum on offense, a disastrous turn over PA T by.
Petroni is good and just 29 seconds after they Captain 80-yard Drive Ryan Dillard the junior quarterback Scoops and takes a fumble back, 59 yards for a touchdown.
And it's the impact claim at.
You just talked about the percentages of being plus.
I think he hits the back of his own Lyman.
Christian does talk about being Plus in turnovers and what an advantage that is to winning a game.
You look at the percentages of team that scored defensive touchdown and it's off the charts.
Buford, Matt, we're barely what three and a half minutes into this ball game and it's already got a defense, a turnover and a touchdown off of it.
Well, this is like a nightmare for how lamb because a year ago it was turnovers that killed their chances.
In fact, Jess Simpson, admits that a year ago Buford perhaps did not have the best team but beat Calhoun because the yellow jackets killed themselves with turnovers.
And here they have done it again in the opening, four minutes of this ballgame.
And I would say, the coach lamb, he needs to do the opposite of Jess Simpson wherever they ate last night.
Slept last night, whatever they had is the pregame meal.
Just tear that sheet of paper up and revamp, all of it.
So patroni, ready to kick off again.
As Buford has taken a stunning 14 to nothing lead.
Impressive 80-yard, drive to open and then a big defensive play.
They're going to pooch kick.
This fair catch is called for and made at the 39, yard line by Clay Johnson.
And so, that's where Calhoun will go back on offense for the second time.
Down to the sidelines and Nicki Noto.
Hey, I wanted to let you know that when I was talking to coach lamb, he said that this game is going to come down to minimize the states.
Annex amaizing when they have the ball.
He said that a five or six turnovers that.
For the last year.
And as you can see with what just happened, they have to minimize those mistakes.
Back to you in the booth.
Absolutely.
You can see it's a great case example right there, turnovers turn into points and it does immediately on that one play Curtis hit as he threw.
Overthrows JT Palmer.
And that was Rick lagrant.
We told you about him off the top.
And number six, making his presence felt as he beat the offensive lineman and put a lot of pressure on Curtis.
Yeah.
Right.
Inside the offensive tackle, their into the backfield and just explosive off the We knew that from number six, and there's that starting lineup, look, Grant Clark Mac & Freitag on the line, Leigh, Johnson, and green, or the linebackers, and in the secondary Dillard, who's already got a touchdown?
Head bar and more and that secondary, those three Juniors that are gonna be major college prospects next season second down.
And ten Curtis.
They pick up the blitz, they throw downfield.
It's broken up time to get the ball to Clay Johnson.
Eric bar, broke it up and now it's going to be third.
Third down, good job from the yellow jackets.
Offensive line given their quarterback Kurdish time to bounce in the pocket kind of check downfield and go through his receivers able to deliver the football on target.
But quality defense there by number one, aired bar.
So third down and ten coming up for the Calhoun.
Yellow Jackets, come to a most to get in that way.
Back machine to about four minutes ago man.
Absolutely doesn't want to go way back just four minutes ago.
That's all start of the game.
They want to do over a mulligan for the way this thing.
Started.
That's Frierson a Ryerson.
I should say in motion behind the line with they got the flow dead.
It actually came from the official on the other side of the field from the motion.
So we'll see what the white hat tells us prior to the snap false start by the offense.
Five-yard penalty, third down.
Yeah, I think I think the motion man was fine.
Matt.
It may have been an offensive lineman there, so third and 15 coming up for Calhoun fifth undefeated regular season in the last nine years, 14 and 0 for the second time in History.
The other time, they were 14 and 0 they lost to Charlton County in the 2005 state championship game, third and 15 time to throw four Curtis dumps it off to JT Palmer.
Got a lot of men to beat.
Just does barely get back to the original line of scrimmage.
If that Andre Johnson making the tackle for Buford and will be a punting situation for the Yellowjackets.
Tough proposition on what Matt third about 15 that you know, your complete, the pass behind the line of scrimmage.
So now you got even further to go but I mean, buford's defense was so dialed into anything that would have converted there that, you know, Calhoun's, just trying to make something positive happen.
And you know what?
You gain a few yards there.
You set yourself up for a punt.
Now you try to get a stop on defense.
Adam Griffith on the punt for Calhoun to Junior who's actually that was Landing Curtis grunting instead of Griffith.
English makes the catch and was dropped immediately.
Great open field.
Tackle by Fricks and We'll go on offense for the second time at Their Own 29-yard Line.

You get a chance to talk to Dave Hunter about football.
You do that.
That's a great opportunity man.
Could learn something good.
Yeah.
1A state championship with the Brookwood Broncos.
Also coach two-piece pre-high School in DeKalb County, its first and damn ball at the 29-yard line for Buford are already leading by two touchdowns and they're on offense for just the second time.
See on Jones, hit hard by Alex Kirby the linebacker for Calhoun Kirby.
The leading tackler on this Calhoun team.
It see, number eight.
They're a junior Kirby.
You use that phrase.
Kenny fill against the Run.
That's what you want to get to linebacker.
Well, I qualify Step right into the hole.
Avoid the blockers.
Just able to get there before the guard can get to him.
Great job there by number eight Kirby.
Hal Lamb says that young man big time hit her must be with 161 tackles on the season.
It's second down and seven while the 32 Darien Smith getting his first Carry of the ball game.
That's now five different running backs that have touched the ball and Darien Smith back playing today after missing the last five weeks with a shoulder injury against Kirby and Gus Robertson on the tackle that time I met.
This is what I say all the time.
You just want a shot, get me the third down.
I got a shot there to get off the field if your cow home and all you want right now.
Let's hey, let's stop the bleeding.
All right, let's get her feet under ourselves.
Get a stop on defense.
Get the football back because we're Real good football team.
We just kind of need to get our legs.
Here it is third down and four ball at the 35.
Ross, first down catch, great job of sticking the feet, down in the ground and getting the ball, inbounds Jamal English, Second Catch of the Day.
And another third down conversion with a pass attempt and just a great job there of aligning, the protection to seal everything inside.
Keep Ross, free from any defensive pressure.
He's able to look down field.
That was essentially a one receiver route.
They were just looking to get the first down there.
That was perfect by Buford.
And this goes back to what I was saying a few moments ago.
All due respect to Carver Columbus but you could key on Isaiah Crowell with Buford the Calhoun defense.
Who are you going to Keel?
Because the ball is going to so many different people.
That was Eric bar again on the carry Hunter night, the second leading, tackler number six on this Calhoun team made the stop that time.
It's like just Simpson found a Playbook That Time Forgot because they actually feature the full-back some matte and so that really changes your keys as a linebacker say.
Ham will read that full back and then I'm going to look for the tail who's going to have the full Football.
That's not the case with the Wolves.
Contrasting Styles.
Buford runs that power.
I offense got him a big-time quarterback and a strong tail back to do that.
And a good offensive line that s down.
Slope gets another carry and Swope scrambles down to the 46 yard line Heath Everett in on the stop again.
Good workout, good job, right there.
I think it was the Vontae.
Mack number 58.
Little fold block right there in the middle of the offensive line.
If you're able to execute that you can really Back.
That looks like a pretty simple play mat.
Just right there between that that a gap on the weak side.
Swope kind of bounces it outside.
One more Gap.
Matt that's 7-yard.
Gain, third down, and 3, right here and this is a critical third down situation.
Calhoun needs to get that Buford offense off the field.
They can allow them to score again.
They might find themselves in a hole too deep that the are dig out of after one quarter.
Nice Tackle.
By Fricks may have stopped him shy of the sticks at the 45 yard line and a good job of closing, their by Fricks Mathieu.
And I've done enough games.
You've heard me say this before, as a tailback, what's your rule?
You follow the full back until he makes contact and then you go opposite for Fricks, kind of cuts in behind the fullback.
And is able to make that play to set up a fourth and short for the wolves on offense.
Great play there by Brooks fourth down less than a yard to Go.
Buford 13 out of 21 on fourth down conversions this season.
That's a first down jump right there.
A big fourth and less than 1 and the conversion.
For the first down some somewhere around, Vince Lombardi's grave.
The dirt is kind of shaking around because he just loved that play, man.
He just loaded up there.
You make it, not about football.
You make that about math.
I have more guys here to throw blocks, then you have to stop me.
so First and Ten for Buford, who did their math, Refresh that a fresh set of downs at the 44 yard line.
Ross throws complete on the tunnel screen ball out after Paris had and made the catch but apparently Buford covered it at the 35 dye.
See you got the screen coming back towards the formation mad and you're putting a wide receiver in there with all the big ugly's.
There's bodies flying around.
You can poke that football out, get a helmet on, it always dicey when you bring that receiver back towards the middle of the field.
I think most receivers would agree with me.
They like that bubble spring a lot more in that tunnel coming back towards the quarterback tunnel.
You run into linebackers.
No thanks bubbles.
You're fighting cornerbacks second down and two ball at the 36.
Again, Trent Fricks making that tackle for Calhoun and bars, close to a first down at the name.
Fricks sounds familiar.
He is a long line of Fricks you start at Calhoun High School and have gone on to the University of Georgia's.
Brother Trent is the Deep Snapper for the Bulldogs, his father dr. Mitch Fricks was the Deep Snapper for the Bulldogs, back in the 80s, snap the ball for Kevin Butler to kick.
And now Trent Fricks his son, snaps the ball four, Butler to hold and also to punt and tie hoping to follow in their footsteps.
Not only plays linebacker for the Yellowjackets but also the Deep Snapper for this Calhoun team as well.
And Eric bar, not the biggest kid in the world and only 165 pounds but able to hit that contact and still get the first down, play blown dead.
And as you've been watching this game at home on television, you see Buford with a great amount of shifts and movement in their offense and that's one of the reasons how lamp says they are a snap.
Neutral zone by the offense, five yards remains first down.
Here's a look at your officials, Thomas Graham as your referee, you just heard him announce the call.
So first and 15 coming back, but how lamp said, they're the most difficult team that they ever have to prepare for because of their different shifts in formation.
Oh, man, I hated coaching defense against offenses like that offenses, should have three formations in the forward pass has outlawed, that, that would be the changes, I would make Football three formations and can't throw it.
Ross is for, for 51 yards, passing so far in this ball game.
They toss instead to Eric bar and bar down to the 34 yard line.
We've seen a pretty good dose of Eric bar so far in this ballgame.
And bar, averages less than two carries for ballgame.
They only had put 27, 28 carries coming into today and he's already been featured a little bit.
That was a very good run about four and a half yards, but cut it back inside the pursuit.
There was able to get almost back to the original line of scrimmage.
Yeah, bar already has three carries for a team.
Leading 43 yards, of course.
37 of them came on one run to set up their first touchdown.
Second down and 11.
Ross to the Arrogant, I gained another completion.
This one to Paris head again and Ross is a sparkling 545 to start this contest and Calhoun's defense has had a couple of shots night.
You see another tight spiral similar to the first pass that Alex Ross had tonight, just a little out pattern right there and move the ball.
Downfield, a few yards but Calhoun has had some shots on this possession.
Matt, they had a third down, they had a fourth down.
And so again, all you want is a chance to That stopped in the yellow Texas.
Had it got to credit the Buford wolves for continuing to move the chains.
You can see why just Simpson says that Ross has a little bit of that Gunslinger mentality.
Stopped at the line of scrimmage Swope.
No Running Room.
Caden Parker, who suffered a horrific ankle injury, against Buford back in 2007, as a sophomore.
And still really is not come all the way back.
Made a big tackle right there, and now it's going to be fourth down and we see if the wolves go for it again.
Well, some parts.
The field you have three options punt, kick a field goal, or go for it on the 25 yard line.
You got two options, you the try a really long field goal, which I don't think we're going to see or you put some beef in there.
Go what 45 tight ends and just kind of try to mash it down field.
Well, they're going three tight ends and they're loading up our side.
Now, Clark number 90 and Freitag number 41 or the tight ends lined up on the left side of the offensive line will see if they run that way.
A timeout called by Buford, before the flag was dropped, the backyard snap delay by the offense.
Wow, five yards fourth down, back, judge, drop the flag, one officials, No, the timeout had been given.
I didn't hear not all out and you can hear the officials talking about it right now down on the field and now they're going to confer to see whether the timeout was called in time, one official again, ruled that it had been the other did not most important thing to get it.
Right.
And you see the white hat Gather in a couple of his charges there to sort through x, y and z.
And looks like he's explaining some bad news to just something that doesn't it.
He just told Jess Simpson that the flag came before you called the timeout.
So this radically changes the situation, instead of a fourth down in less than 2 or short to you're looking at a fourth and seventh.
Oh man, I don't see him.
Moving the football back.
Well, they haven't and it looks like every resident of Gordon county is in the stands, on the visitors side line over there.
And there are none too pleased about this development.
It's a great day.
Turn left in Calhoun.
I got to imagine Because I mean literally, everybody's here here.
Alright, now they're bringing the football back, they did move it back, five yards.
And so they are now going for it on fourth down and seven, instead of fourth down, and two need to get to about the 23.
For the first down, already have converted one.
Fourth down situation here in this first quarter.
Now a timeout called by Calhoun timeout Calhoun their first time out.
Funny thing is that five-yard penalty kind of eliminates one of those options you weren't going to punt at all, you're on the third 30-yard line.
You're also not going to tempt a 47-yard field goal.
So you're just going to go for you just have to change the play.
You were going to call.
Be sure to stay tuned to GPB between games for live.
On the Georgia, Dome field action and commentary on the games, as well as a chance to make a pledge to Georgia.
Public broadcasting and when Falcons Hawks and Thrashers tickets.
So it's funny that beat the five-yard penalty.
Actually kind of makes the choice easier when you're on the 25-yard line.
You're thinking you know what, we may stretch this, we talked to Coach Simpson the other day and you asking what's the max range, you feel comfortable with your field goals, we're talking about 42 yards, what that what he said?
Well, 42 is as long as he said, perhaps at the end of a half or end of the game, I would try a 48-yarder with David Patron, so you're thinking about the 42 yarder when the ball is on the 25.
When you back it up to the 30, you kick, the get the punt in the field.
Will go out the window.
You know, you're going for it.
But I would say this.
Remember, Georgia, high school football rules, if a kick gets into the endzone, it's coming out to the 20.
It's not like give the ball up at the point of the line of scrimmage or even the kid.
Kept Ross scrambling alludes to rush.
He's in trouble and he's going to go down at the 31 yard line, great Pursuit by the Calhoun defense.
Alex Kirby was the one who finally dropped him.
They got great inside push.
And the ball goes over on Downs.
Since the forward pass was legalized.
This has been true.
You get your past defense from your pass rush and Calhoun.
When they had to have a stop, what they do, math, they flooded the backfield got pressure on Ross.
He's able to sidestep the first couple of Yellowjackets wound up.
Getting W going to be a socket and 4 minus 1 yard there.
So congratulations Calhoun's defense gets off the field, no more points and I think you got to give a couple of gold stars to number six, Hunter night.
He was the guy with the inside pushed forced him, out of the pocket and then Hunter night got up off.
Knees and came back and tripped him up before Alex Kirby fell on top of it.
Christian, the carry Picks up just a couple of yards on the play Ryan.
Dillard, the cornerback made the tackle, that might have been the final play of this first quarter.
We have played 12 minutes at the Georgia Dome, with three to go.
The Buford Wolves at, 14 to nothing lead on the Calhoun.
Yellow Jackets as Buford Guns for history today, and a fourth straight State title back with the second quarter on GPB.
After this timeout, I wish that I could fly my liver, all right.

Start of the second quarter.
Matt Stewart, Chuck Oliver Nicki Noto with you with the Georgia Dome, the Buford wolves out to a 14, to nothing lead on the Calhoun Yellow Jackets as these two teams meet in the double A State final for a third consecutive year.
As you take a look at the Buford wolves resume, how impressive stay seven state championships, five, straight title games from 2000 to 2004, and a state record, 47 consecutive victories earlier.
This decade just got stopped on fourth down.
Calhoun takes over to yard, run on the first play.
And here we are.
Curtis back to pass for the Yellowjackets, caught by JT Palmer across Midfield and a first down for Calhoun and Buford territory.
Second time, they have been in the Wolves side of the 50 yard line and they speed up to the line of scrimmage all manner of respect.
From number 28, Ryan Dillard, the 510 corner for the Wolves going against mr.
Giant on the outside six foot three wide receiver Palmer.
JT Palmer for Calhoun First and Ten ball at the 49 yard line.
Christian spin move in the whole, the grant made the tackle dropped him right there at the line of scrimmage, perhaps even lost a yard on the play.
Now, watch what Calhoun did on that play mat huge splits on the offensive line, they are trying to create some Running Room, maybe proof formation, watch how far apart those offensive linemen, they just line up before the ball is even snap, sometimes when you're having a difficult time, getting the ground game going, you'll try to create some running Lane strictly through your formation did work.
Buford defense too quick there number 59, the right tackle.
Jacob King.
A devil of a time with Legrand who's a speed demon out there on that defensive end.
Like we said off the top only six foot 2002 but really does a job with much bigger offensive lineman beating them with his speed.
I have seven players on line of scrimmage that penalty is declined result of the play.
Second down, you say he's having a hard time with Legrand.
I think there's a support group out there for offensive.
Tackles an experience that this year.
I mean that's that's a weekly occurrence.
Second down and ten coming up for Calhoun.
Une ball at the 49 yard line.
Yellow.
Jackets have won 10 straight region 7, double A titles.
Seventy seven consecutive region games Christian on the Carrie.
Stop by Andre Johnson at the 46.
CJ more the corner in, on the stop as well.
And now it's going to be third down.
You want to know why that play a game, the few guards that it did Tyler.
King number 55 actually took out to Buford wolves with a great block right off the line of scrimmage.
Watch him right there in the middle.
Just chop right there.
Boom.
Sprung is running back for just about what do we say about about a three-yard gain on that.
But really did a good job kind of opening that hole up third down and seven ball at the 46 heavy Rush Curtis cause it's complete.
The Clay Johnson Johnson down to the 23 dropped by Dillard in the open field, but a big Gainer for the Yellowjackets on third down.
One of the football truisms used to be mad.
Quarterback.
If you see a blitz coming, what do you do?
You throw where the blitz just came from?
Now Bill Belichick in the zone Blitz kind of change that up a little bit but Blitz comes from the inside receiver releases to the middle.
And there is not a Buford wolf to be found Tristan on the Carrie scoots to the outside Cuts back inside and Dives down to the 1-yard line 22 yard game for Dustin Christian Paris Head kept him out of the end zone at least for now and you know what all this goes back to His great run there.
Lowering his head, covering up that football protecting me.
Matt, go back to that, fourth and one and the delay of game penalty, if Buford is able to convert their and then they're inside the 25-yard line and able to tack on another score.
You're gonna have a false start there on the left tackle, but back them up five yards.
It buford's able to convert their.
You're down on the 25 yard line with four fresh Downs before the snap false start by the offense five yard.
Many first down, just Bust It Outside, straight up the seam and again, able to cover up the football, we see there.
When the contact comes lowers the shoulder, but that Buford offense, it look like a bowling ball.
Somebody had dropped off Peachtree Plaza.
There was no stopping at know, getting in the way of it.
They get the five yard penalty back themselves up and not able to convert.
So that kind of opens the door for Calhoun.
Congratulations, the yellow jackets.
Got a chance here and take advantage of that.
Tristan Five carries 60 yards, head coach, Hal Lamb says that some of the major college programs in the Southeast, really, missing the boat on this kid, I got 12 players in the defensive huddle as well.
That's going to cost a half the distance.
Before the snap substitution and fraction by the defense.
That penalty is half the distance to the goal, remains first down those people treat, you can only do that on offense.
Matt, it's not true.
Rule applies for the defense as well.
And the point that you were making as a timeout has been called here, is that now Buford two critical penalties.
One right here, sets up Calhoun, even better inside the 5-yard line with a first and goal to go in the course.
The bigger one was on the call that Didn't with the fourth and short coming up and just shows you that in football.
I mean, you can score 7 points on one possession.
It can change so quickly, Matt.
And that one penalty for the delay of game, it could change really the whole complexion of this ballgame because you're talking about maybe 21 to nothing versus a possible 6:46, right here of Calhoun's, able to get in the end zone.
Well, the momentum and complexion of this game, could change dramatically with a touchdown right here by Calhoun.
They would be right back in it.
Instead of being down to, as you pointed out, three scores And maybe already done for the day and yet again, you know, we're looking out over to that visitor sidelines and it is packed from about, from goal, line to go on really for people to come up, 58 seconds.
Nine minutes 58 seconds.
First and goal to go.
Power backfield now lines up for Calhoun.
The power, I offset to the right.
Alex Kirby number 8, the linebacker lines up in that power position, Curtis fires in the fade route and over the head of the intended.
Receiver was looking for Alex Kirby.
A little like in the flat and was heresy or six, I thought it was Hunter night, the other linebacker, it was 600, not the other linebacker, they had lined up at the wide outrunning a faith to him Paris Head number 23, able to drop back in coverage and really, no open receiver and I don't think that Curtis is really trying to complete that pass is didn't have a real good shot at it there.
So very interesting they have both of their starting inside linebackers in the offensive formation toss goes this time to Christian Christian touchdown.
Calhoun back in the game.
I think Tony Hernandez blocked two kids on how Bloody number 34, he's down enough to do it.
I think he ain't gets a chip right there past the line of scrimmage and then moves on watch this.
Number 34 coming in the beef, towards the line of scrimmage, then he goes, get somebody else looks back and starts waving his teammate in.
Hey follow me, get in the end zone.
1 E, third rushing, touchdown of the season for Dustin Christian and now Griffith one of the top two.
Kickers in the nation on for the p80 and he Nails it.
50 out of 50 to on his extra points this season.
The junior kicker, Adam Griffith, a junior.
And he's already got three SEC offers on the table from LSU, Alabama.
And Vanderbilt, there's the first block there by Hernandez and he gets out.
Clear, so I'm given to helmet stickers, to the Blocker on that flight.
And after watching, Dustin trusted, here in the first quarter and three minutes, I have to agree with Hal Lamb.
Tristan is an impressive running back, the only Holding it back, really is his lack of great size.
He caption a play, 69 yard Drive, took two and a half minutes.
It came after Buford turned the ball over on Downs, a three yard touchdown run for Dustin Christian and you mentioned his size.
He's only 59, that's what he's listed at.
I hadn't gotten out the tape measure.
I'll take the Calhoun coaches at their word, but, you know, you wonder if backs like the success, maybe Michael Dyer, kid like that, has it Auburn who's also only five Mountain powerfully-built?
Maybe that kind of Gets a crowbarred cracks open the mind a little bit.
Some of the coaches that these bigger schools.
Well, Dustin is committed to Chattanooga.
He did also have offers from East Carolina, Georgia, Southern, Southern Miss and Western Carolina.
Group of.
Also, a great weapon on kickoffs 85% of his kicks have been for touchbacks, lot of good night and he kicks that 18 yards deep in the end zone, non-returnable of course in Georgia, High School Association rules and so Beaufort starts at the 20-yard line.
If you do, just that you're going to college for free, just that just hung cost, absolutely.
When you talk about the best way to eliminate your opponent's best chance at a huge play.
Kicking the end zone, there are 22 men on the field for a kickoff.
If you have a guy that can kick it into the endzone, the other 21 or irrelevant its first and ten ball at the 20 yard line.
Stop by Paris Head ducked under attack, will pick up about eight on the play, her night, making the tackle out there on the edge ducked under to went from a pretty painful looking three-yard gain to a sort of non-violent eight yard game that self-preservation right there man.
Third catch of the game for Paris Head.
Head, the leading receiver on this Beaufort ball Club came in with twenty three catches for 433 yards, two touchdowns, and a gaudy 18.7 yards per catch.
And like so many other difference makers on this roster, only a junior Andre Johnson lined up, actually that was Darien Smith.
Number 26, picked up the first down number 26, Darien Smith, how big is it for Darien Smith?
A junior tailback shoulder injury before the playoffs started to come back and play.
Well, Beaufort had a host of injured players and all back contributing to some degree.
Today, we'll swap was hurt and he we've seen him play today, and Smith was hurt illegal motion by the offense.
Five-yard penalty replay second down, that's used to be somebody leaning into the line of scrimmage before.
The ball was snapped that wipes out the Run by Darien Smith.
The other injured player hoping to get on the field.
Today was number 33 Nathan stop who's a fullback and Linebacker for the spoofer ballclub trying to come back from a sprained.
MCL injury in his knee.
I saw him on the sidelines a few moments ago.
I'm not seen him on the field yet.
See I'm Jones see I'm Jones gets it all back and more in a first down for Buford.
JT Palmer, making the stop for Calhoun met you here, guys.
All the time, talk about, you know, running downhill.
That's exactly what see on Jones does again.
You know, kid that we've been able to see a couple of times this year, he gets that football and starts going north, south and you get shoulders and knee pads and helmet.
That's what your choice is a Defender.
If you want to tackle number 40 on Jones, a team-leading 126 yards on the season, coming into today's ballgame set.
A Buford single-game record with 319 yards.
Rushing this season passes complete and another first down in Paris had making his fourth grab of the Season yeah whatever they fed him for pregame he's earning it.
Whatever they fed.
Alex Ross for pregame he hasn't thrown an incompletion yet.
He's now 747.
That's a head one of those Juniors and this is the frightening proposition.
Opposition for the rest of class double aim at, this isn't even supposed to be the year for Buford.
There's his perfect numbers.
Man, if that was in his head that was a deck of cards man.
He's got a four of a kind, man, he's a big money winner at me.
Sevens across the board.
Eric bar on the carry not much doing for bar on that run.
Yeah, the point that you're making the strength of this.
Buford glass is really in their junior class.
Absolutely senior class.
They have all their big time college prospects or most of them in that junior class.
So if they win today, trust me.
They are the favorites to come back and break the record of win.
A fifth straight title.
Next year, you mentioned Nathan, stop number 33.
Full grown man.
Junior 63 215 pounds two-way player.
Just coming off the field.
Now, got a little bit of action there, but a kid with a strained MCL.
He's like, no, I'll be fine for the State title game.
Just Simpson says he's a special kid, his daddy runs the Eagles Ranch for boys and girls.
Tom daschle kind of Kit physically, mentally emotionally time.
Our fact by people Be sure to stay tuned to GPB between games for live.
On the Georgia, Dome field action and commentary on the games, as well as a chance to make a pledge to Georgia, public broadcasting.
And when Falcons Hawks and Thrashers tickets, that's coming up between the games.
And we've got another one coming up, the quad, a state championship game coming up at 8:00 tonight.
What a game that should be as well.
Tremendous lineup, 10 teams here, five games of the next two days, single a AAA and 5A coming up on Saturday afternoon and evening here at the Georgia Dome and we're here for this game and you'll see a lot of names, you know, Jeff Van note a lot of other people for other games but I think Gil Gil is doing the Jerry Lewis Duty, right?
He is doing the telephone round-the-clock stuff, right?
He's staying up all night, get him back.
That man, some coffee.
Second down and eight.
Another flag out before.
The ball could be snapped where you can run up to the line of scrimmage like that.
But once you put that hand on the ground, you're set before the snap false start by the offense, five-yard remains second down people.
I think that was a man with the offensive linemen off the hook there, any way to 60 and you come running up the line of scrimmage, it's hard to get that weight stopped because that's what that is.
It's a hustle up to the line, put your hand on the ground.
And we're going to kind of Try to do a quick snap.
Buford gunning for their eighth state championship.
Overall, six of those have come in the last nine Seasons.
They 11 back in 1978 as well.
Under head coach Ed Cochran, Ross fires and it is caught by Freitag the tight end.
Not the easiest thing to do for Ross Rowling.
So I'm sorry, Dylan lead number 22, made the get rolling right throwing back towards the middle of the field.
A little bit off Target.
But what kind of great catches that Matt?
I gotta tell you, there were other white jerseys around that.
So if Leigh doesn't come down with it, 64 228, guess what class is junior, junior.
If he'd had come up with that, it could be a hit going.
The other way.
Dylan Lee already has five major college offers from Alabama Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Most schools are recruiting him as an outside linebacker.
Darien Smith, big hole first down Darien Smith inside the 35, No.
This is where you really use a timeout.
I don't think if you're Calhoun on defense, but you kind of want to catch your breath here because the last few plays for Buford they're just ripping off yardage downfield.
Just quick hitter.
Little Bend back action there.
Love that play covering up the football folks.
That's their third team.
Tailback another five nine hundred ninety pound Junior.
Tailback how many teams does he start for the state, bottom and double A?
I'll tell you that.
Oh my goodness Jones, still moving the feet down to the 25.
I got to see that and I think I want to hear it again.
Matt, the lead block by that fullback, you talk about a train wreck about four yards down.
Field.
Goodnight, look at this.
You're right into the hole.
Boom, Witness.
All right, Buford doesn't give out helmet stickers but I'm going to give him one.
What do we have?
Like a microphone.
We can throw in the back of the kids Helmet or Gabe Freeman.
Number 51, got his Dentures rattled on that block.
Second down and two coming up, you have a tremendous Buford putting together a really strong drive to answer that touchdown by Calhoun, just running the ball down their throat right now.
Eric bar on the carry another first down for the Wolves, Alex Kirby making the stop for Calhoun man.
He did it again.
Is that 32 Tony Bradford?
No and Ray Johnson, I'm sorry.
Andre Johnson.
Andre Johnson number 32, who is playing fullback?
Just Simpson says he's athletic enough to be a tailback course he is.
Any is lined up in the tailback position at least, once in his ballgame.
And we're not kidding.
He's also a junior.
They're all Juniors.
Pretty much First and Ten ball at the 21c on Jones.
Down to the 15, picked up, six.
Hunter night and Alex Kirby.
Getting a lot of tackles for Calhoun that's not necessarily a good thing.
No.
Because they're a little further away from the football than you want.
Nathan stop.
Back in the Ballgame, there's number 33, coming out to get a little bit of a breather help kind of kick out that defense was rushing after this.
Exactly what we talked about man time out Calhoun exactly what we just talked about a few plays ago that obviously coach lamb.
This is not the way he had a drawn up.
Timeout on the field for 55 to play.
In this opening half.
Buford driving to another touchdown and leading 6:46 on GPB.
Come on, GPB is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia, High School Association including the following National studies show that students who participate in activities like music Sports and drama.
Not only have better grades and attendance, but they develop the character to handle adversity.
The grace to accept defeat and the self-confidence to start over take part.
It's set for life out of the timeout Calhoun, hopefully was able to catch their breath.
Buford really pounding the ball on them right now at second down and five ball at the 16 yard line.
Ross Scrolls, another completion, Paris Head, fifth, catch of the game for Paris Head.
It is a first down inside the 10 and Ross is still yet, to throw an incompletion and Running Man coverage.
And you know how the quarterback can tell that Matt watch the alignment of the cornerback before these plays.
If the cornerback is lined up inside the receiver, that means he's trying to force the receiver to the outside and use that sideline.
Well, if the receiver and the quarterback, both recognize that they can, Just make a read right there together and say, hey if he's given me the outside, I'm just going to run it there and pick up a few yards.
We've seen that play three times from the Buford wolves today.
Ross is 949 this is akin to Phil Simms in the Super Bowl back in the late 80s.
What was you 23 out of 25?
In that ballgame.
Remember that Ross is 949 to start this ball game.
Passing the ball Super Bowl 21 against Denver.
Yep.
Warm out and Buford has its second down and goal and trying to re-establish a Touchdown leave and that's the kind of thing you do get from, you know, an upperclassman at quarterback.
What I was talking about reading that corner, if he's lined up inside the receiver he nose automatically, it's man coverage and he can make a signal to the receiver to hate break that route off outside.
Let's just play pitch and catch us.
Like staying in the front yard, where your dad throwing the football, Calhoun trying to avoid becoming the second team in Georgia, High School Association history to lose three straight state, championship games, Adairsville, actually lost four in a row, 1969 to 1970.
To Buford.
Their last timeout.
So Buford has used their allotment of three here with 405 to play in the second quarter.
That's actually probably a little bit of a break for Calhoun as they've been pushed down a little Hill.
Let's check in with Nicki Noto down on the sideline.

I know you just want to get in on that chat with Coach Hunter, the legendary Coach Dave Hunter.
He beat me when I played he beat me when I coached don't feel bad.
There were a lot of guys oh it's a club that yeah it's a it's a club.
He was at Peachtree high school with Todd rambley.
Yep and they came down to Central and Latin put a whooping on us.
Ramp Lee went on to quarterback, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
It's second down and goal ball at the 7 yard line.
See on Jones in the backfield atoms and motion behind the line, Ross, heavy Rush quarterback sack, Gabe Freeman got him back at the 14, yard line Freeman, who got jacked up on that block a few plays ago, gets a little Redemption right here.
It gave saying, hey let me get in the in the highlight reel for a good reason and you know what that's a really good decision by Alex Ross because when you're a quarterback you see big old number 51 Dick Butkus coming at you right there.
What's the what's the impulse?
Matt, just let's just heat it up in the end zone.
You are in such Great shape right now, you're down.
You're going to scrimmage on the 14 yard line.
You're in great shape, don't give up all the points.
Come back on third down, try to make something happen, fourth, sack of the season for Freeman, and that was a huge play.
If they can keep Buford to a field goal here, see on Jones will not get any farther than the 11-yard line that was, let's gain some yards and let's run the clock.
Let's get this thing down to what three minutes maybe 245 and let's put it.
In the middle of the field Piccolo.
David patroni, absolutely.
They've taken off a huge chunk of time on this drive in the clocks still running.
As Buford lines up this football field goal.
But chuck.
Would you not agree if they hold to Buford to even just a field goal here?
They've won at least part of the wall.
Coach lamb.
I'll take that.
After what we were seeing for probably four or five plays in a row.
When wasn't just tearing off yardage David?
Patroni number 15 is seven of nine on his field goals this season.
A 42 yarder for his long.
This is a 27 yarder right in the middle of the field.
You got a good look at it right there.
That's perfect.
27-yard field goal for David patroni, it's his eight field goal the season and buford's leads.
Now 6:43 But all things said and done, that's a victory for both teams.
Kind of a tide, you forgot 3 and Calhoun held on 23.
And now only two 35 remaining before half-time Calhoun with only one timeout left.
Now, they obviously, with the players they have on offense, they can they can be quick strike.
But again, only two-and-a-half minutes and one time out you're going to limit your options.
You'd be surprised how quickly those seconds tick off the clock.
Calhoun.
The Yellowjackets, a revitalization Under head coach, Hal Lamb.
They went 38 years between playoff, wins from 1953 to 1991 and had only four total in school history.
Prior to how Lambs.
Arrival in 1999.
They've won 25 since he's been there.
Another short approach on the kick map, patroni, pooch kick, Clay, Johnson fair catch.
He's a wide receiver.
So he's got good hands.
Makes the catch at the 31-yard line so that's pretty good field position for Calhoun to work with and remember they have Adam Griffith, who's got a 55 yard field goal to his credit this season.
They've got him in the back pocket earlier this week we talk to Jess Simpson and we asked him what's special about this year's Buford wolves team.
You know I think Every year every team is different.
You know, we've had a lot of success success the last few years but certainly every team in their journey and their path.
And their growth is different.
We have 13 seniors, they've done a great job leading.
We got some young guys that I feel like I've really learned how to follow and giving those older guys a chance to learn how to lead and we've really come together as a group.
You know, offense defense and kicking is really those three parts of our team have really complemented each other and I think we got a bunch of unselfish players.
They share the a ball, they share time on the grass and we got some great practice player.
We got some unbelievable scout team guys, that really have made our football, team debut this year and Jess Simpson, 81 + 4 is the head coach since taking over for Dexter would while he was talking Calhoun picking up first downs, two in a row, that's their up to the 45 yard line, first to catch, and then a run by Dustin Christian.
And again, you got big ol, gigantic Palmer.
JT Palmer involved on the outside there.
I'm at first play First, and Ten ball at the 45.
Now, under two minutes to play in the half.
Catch across the 50 yard line down to the 48, First Catch of the ball game, for the son of the head coach.
That's been lamb making his 25th catch of the Season Paris Head, making the tackle for Buford not a huge game, but it was free because you had the trips over there and you're playing such soft coverage.
You know what?
Let's go ahead and get 67 yards if they're just going to give it to us.
Second down.
Now, under 90 seconds to play in the half, remember Griffith is a great field goal kicker and it is intercepted at the 30-yard line.
That is just the Third interception thrown by Curtis is season Ryan, Dillard, with the interception for Buford and why it happened is lamb is going into his cut much harder and he slips, you see, he's falling down there.
When you're going forward, you can really Jam that foot in the ground and try and make your cut and sometimes you can lose your footing but a defensive back man, he's in the back pedal so he's not going to cut that hard and he's not as likely to lose his footing.
It's exactly.
What happened on the turf down there?
My buford's thinking minute 23, no timeouts.
What are we gonna do?
They run the ball in almost every situation anyway, but And they run it right there not much doing on that snap as we approach 1 minute and 15 seconds to play in the half.
What's an unfortunate break for Calhoun has lamb slip, tried to make his cut and the ball ended up in Dillard's hands.
Dillard's first pick of the Season.
He's already got a 59-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in this ballgame, and you'll wonder always you first thing.
When a kids played Outdoors, the first 14 weeks, you wonder what Clique does he have?
What shoe does he have on?
Under a minute to play here in the first half.
You know Calhoun just kicking themselves because one more completion would have certainly gotten them with in field goal range for Ryan Dillard.
Fricks making the tackle for Calhoun.
Now how Hoon using their final timeout Calhoun.
Their final timeout unless Buford throws the ball down this down which I highly suspect.
They will not do.
It's still going to be hard for them to get the ball back.
You know what it is?
They're trying.
Onto, you know, cross our fingers for dope, has our Czech playwright yet, thinking that maybe something can happen, and you got the timeout.
I mean, can't do anything with it.
You can't cash it in and then third fourth quarter, do it now.
Well, coach Hal Lambs team back in the state championship game after getting here a year ago and losing to Buford 9:47.
We talked to him this week about what special about the 2010 team.
Well, this team, you know, a lot of people didn't expect us to get back to the Georgia Dome this year, because we lost a lot of good players off last year's team.
But I tell you the difference is the chemistry of this team is very, very special.
We've got a bunch of kids that like to like to hang out.
Gather, they do a lot together and it's just a very special group of kids.
You're right, Chuck when you lose Mash natcher, quarterback signs with the Tennessee Volunteers and your star wide receiver to work Rogers who's the number-one recruit in Georgia signed with Tennessee, probably safe to say.
A lot of people didn't expect him to get back to the state championship game again this year.
And you know what?
If you just looked at the score 1770 that looks like it's going to run it out maybe on the first half and you look at the score there.
17-7, if you just tuning in you're thinking wow buford's really in control.
Maddie was 14-nothing what four minutes into this ballgame and because Buford had a touchdown on the opening drive a scoop and score going.
The other way, give the yellow jackets.
Credit they really clamped down on defense.
They've created some opportunities for the offense.
Not able to cash in all the way, but they're in the Ballgame.
Remember, they get that opening possession of the second half, which is huge.
Well, let me tell you how lamb comes from a family of coaches is brother Bobby the coach until recently at Furman his daddy Rey won three state titles to it Warren County and one at Commerce and Is a master motivator.
There was a poll conducted in the ROM newspaper.
78 percent of the participants back.
In January said, they did not expect Calhoun to get to the state finals this year.
He clipped that out.
And he showed it to his team throughout the course of the Year.
Let's go down on the field.
Nicki Noto standing by with just Simpson.
Thanks guys.
Coach first of all, I want to know how crucial was that turnover and the first half to put you up.
Ultimately 14-0.
Start off.
You know both turnovers were huge.
I mean, we needed that one just to get a little breathing room.
And then the last one right there before the half to be able to hold him after we kick, the field goal was a big deal.
You guys have definitely been holding, especially your past defense, talk a little bit about that and how that those guys have stepped up for you this game so far.
Well, I mean, we're, we got to get a little more pressure.
We're doing a good job, you know, right there.
And then, we're just trying to keep the ball in front of us, but so far, the kids are doing a good job and I can place.
Thanks, coach back to you guys.
Thank you Nikki.

You know coach lamb has done a great job with the football team of got 238 strong here with your band.
Yeah, that is correct.
I think we around 97 football players on the sideline.
And last time I checked 2938 in the band so large showing Today, we've got a great following out here over 4,000 fans, or so, bought two tickets just before you know, preseason sale.

I'm doing great this evening.
How you guys doing?
We're hanging in now.

And and I'll tell you right now, I could not be more proud of our football team, you know, coach symptom has Squirt and his crew.

These guys during season or non-stop, whether it be in the classroom, whether it be on the field, where it be loving and taking keep these kids to the next level.
And the outcome is being at the state championship and and hopefully producing another State title.
Dr. B you are very close.
You are to quarters away for accomplishing.
That feet of four straight title for the Buford wolves and congratulations to you.
Thank you very much.
All right dr.
Better.
Man, the outstanding principal for peer from high school, the Wolves lead here at halftime, the score 17, 7 / Calhoun.
Now let's go upstairs to the gentleman who have been calling this outstanding football game here on the great GPB, Matt Stewart and Chuck Oliver gentlemen, it is all yours.
Thank you Gil.
As you see the Calhoun, Yellow Jackets are back on the field as are the Buford wolves and Chuck.
Let's take a look at the first half highlights and an impressive drive by Buford after they received the opening kickoff.
Marched 80.
Yards to get the first score, you have just ripped down the field.
See, on Jones who went from 178 last week while it goes through only couple of there.
But it was a big couple, you got six points.
This is really the biggest play of the Ballgame and the biggest difference in the ball game.
The 59-yard fumble scoop and return for Touchdown by Ryan.
Diller, just 29 seconds later, Calhoun trying to answer and even the score instead of turns into 14-zip, you second quarter they did finally get on the board as Christian ran it in from three yards out after Buford to turn the ball.
Over on downs, but late in the second quarter 27-yard field goal by patroni, makes it 17 to 7 as you take a look at the first half stats, the number that really stands out the most, to me, time of possession.
And the turnovers, those have been the two biggest differences statistically in this contest.
While the first turnover gives Buford of score.
The second turnover prevents Calhoun from getting the score.
Matt, so there's a difference in the ball game right there eighteen to forty three, 1843 257.
18 for Calhoun in the time of possession.
Not necessarily always a big statistic in this ball game with the Way, Buford wants to control the ground game with their plethora of tailbacks and full bags.
It is a big-time story.
It is halftime here at the Georgia Dome, with Buford leading Calhoun 6:43 in the Georgia, High School Association, double a state championship game.
Second half kickoff is coming up next.

Start of the third quarter, Buford set to kick off Calhoun to receive just a few moments ago.
Mark Harmon, caught up with the Yellowjackets, hell coach, Hal Lamb, Coach Hal Lamb 17 7 at the half.
But what did you tell your team at the halftime where were just shooting ourselves in the foot and turn the ball over twice and I don't think they've stopped us and we just gotta quit turning the ball over.
I think we'll be okay.
This is one hard-hitting slobberknocker of a football game.
You guys are really hitting on the line of scrimmage.
Yeah be pretty good football.
Team on a tremendous program, will go ahead and find a way to win the second half.
Coach, good luck to you.
Thanks for stopping by.
Alright, thank you.
Mark.
And now the Calhoun yellow The start on offense here.
They're going to have to really, avoid turnovers, interesting formation on the kickoff Truck.
Yeah.
The short approach from the same.
The pooch kick on three of these and now they spin it around, maybe they going to preach to the other side and they just kick away.
Christian goes back to get it at the 6 yard line.
And Christian corralled at the 25.
And that's where the yellow jackets will start on offense to begin this, third quarter, the value of that is, after you show it three times, you get the kick, the kick return, team kind of Creek of creeping up and it's not like you're going to get a ball bouncing around because the Deep man doesn't get it.
But the guys who are supposed to block for him, kind of want it, screws up their angles a little bit and gives Beaufort a better chance to cover a deep kick.
You saw Landon, Curtis has numbers for that first half, not up to his standards 5 of 10 for 62 yards and Pick a week ago against Carver.
He was 19 of 23 for 189 and two touchdowns and ran for another.
Nothing doing on that play.
It got blown up in a hurry by Rick lagrant just got in the back pocket of Christian and as soon as that ball was given to him makes the tackle behind the line of scrimmage by about an inch.
So we're going to go ahead and Tack point back.
Another tfl on to the grand total, I think you can.
Lagrant winnette touchdown Club first team defensive, lineman just announced late this week.
Second down, and ten ball at the 25 yard line for the Yellowjackets.
Calhoun, kind of stacking those receivers to the top side of the field.
You wonder if they're gonna run some kind of pick play up there, pass was batted down at the line of scrimmage.
Third down coming up, inauspicious.
Start for the Yellowjackets to this third quarter.
You have the lead receiver goes downfield trying to clear out bin lamb.
The coach's son kind of breaks it off towards the sidelines, but the ball never even made it out there.
Now they're going to go trips to the far side and send JT Palmer out loud.
Two turnovers for the Yellow Jackets today.
Six in the first two games that they played.
Eight total against, just one for Buford in these three state championship meetings.
Guess he's one of them.
Off the hands of JT Palmer who had a lot of real estate in front of him.
If he could have held on Curtis LED Palmer just a hair too long, because you're right, Palmer was opened right in the middle of the field.
Could have busted that straight down the same for a huge game that if he gets tackled, right?
Where he catches it at the 25 yard game.
So, Curtis will stay on to punt, fourth down and 10.
They actually lost maybe an inch or two on that possession.
Exactly what they were looking for.
Jamal, English is standing back at the 45 yard line.
Remember, Dominique Swope, who is their primary punt, returner injured and has played a few snaps from fullback, but not returning kicks today.
Oh man, he got hit at the 40-yard line.
There is a penalty flag dropped on that Everett leveled him before the ball.
Got there.
And that's a big LD on the yellow jacket.
I'm hoping to see the replay because I couldn't tell if it was right at the same time or maybe just a half thick early, the ball knocked away obviously.
So it might be helmet to helmet or helmet right under the chin.
He might have led with the helmet and that might open matter when it happened.
Yeah, that might ultimately be the call, rather than a pass, or rather pun interference.
Here, they look like he went in with him helmet first, and that might be the call from our officials.
Take another.
Look at it.
That's 18 Heath ever.
Yep.
That's helmet right?
Under the kid.
Timing was fine mad.
You're exactly right.
And you know what most of these kids watching this ball game with a lot of don't understand, is you put yourself at as much risk when you lead with the helmet or here in those helmet to helmet hits?
Official sorting this out right now.
Still haven't gotten an indication.
Good point though.
Yeah, I think you're right.
The timing looked like it was spot on the mark but it was the Helmand the leading with the helmet that look like.
That might be the penalty call here.
Taking a long time to figure it out though, which is okay.
You want to get it right?
No stars Mill was able to advance last week against Tucker, despite losing their best player, Nick Lasky.
Tailback on that exact same sort of player returning a punt but what are the Tucker player?
Dude, LED with his shoulder pad, which is completely legal man.
Stars Mill, will be in action tonight against Chattahoochee for the for a State title.
Both of those teams gunning for their first ever state championships, kind of a contrast to what we see here today, with Buford gunning for their seventh and ten years.
And head is a Gigantic an affair.
They did call kicking everything, 15 yards from the previous spot Replay for Town looking to make them kick it again.
So they did call the interference.
I think they could have gone either way, as you take a look at Chattahoochee, the Cougars.
Stars Mill.
The Panthers coming up both I'm 14.
And oh that's at 8:00 tonight and I can tell you that Adam Holly that stars Mill quarterback is about as resourceful as any kid.
You're going to see in these five State title games tremendous game.
Leaving this team back.
Last week, chaddock a memorial Chattahoochee led by the quarterback.
They called little tibo.
Little Tebow.
That's good enough for me.
So now, Curtis is punting from his goal line.
Jamal, English has to go back to the 50 but has a chance to return this one.
Gets about seven yards on the return.
So Buford will take over at the 43-yard line Trent Fricks making the tackle for Calhoun, but we may ultimately look back on this little, you know, two minutes pan to start the third quarter and say this is where Calhoun had a chance to maybe get back in it and lost that by going too quick for and out and then a crucial penalty on the punt gave Buford a great short field to work out of three plays, they ran from scrimmage, only took 55 seconds.
So we're into the third quarter now.
They've had the football on offense for Six minutes and now the wolves are back on offense.
Jerkins in motion behind the line in the toss goes to see on Jones.
Jones picks up, five down to the 37 Gus Roberts.
Making the tackle Gus Roberts and Caden Parker on that defensive line for Calhoun three-year starters.
This is the third straight year.
They finished their season playing against the Buford wolves.
He favorite number 18 Stepping up into the backfield, they're forcing see on Jones inside.
Played it pretty well.
Great, cut by Jones, giving the six yard game though.
Jerkins in motion again behind the line, task goes to see on zones with a skip step down to the 31, picks up another 6C on Jones.
It's the first two carries of the ball game of the second half.
I should say for Buford, I gotta tell you are boy.
Gabe Freeman, number 51.
He's thinking there's got to be an easier way to get a ring because he's the kid taken on those lead blocks.
It seems play after play and just got jolted again.
Now, he's doing the right thing, forcing it back inside, why?
Well, because you got help inside, so he's To set in that edge and redirecting the running back but it's not the easiest living in the world playing linebacker today.
First, and Ten now slope is in there as the single bag for Buford sloping Jones have combined to over 3,000 yards.
Rushing the season, as he squirms inside the 30 and down to the 27, Caden Parker who I just mentioned a few moments ago, made that tackle.
Number 93 for Calhoun and Gus Roberts.
Number 63 in the middle of that line, doing a good job as well.
That's Caden Parker.
We told you his sophomore year suffered a horrific ankle injury that he's really yet to recover from how lamb says he went from a D1 Potential Prospect as a sophomore to being a DT Prospect.
Now just a tough break for that good.
Eric Bar, Third different running back to touch the ball here in this first, three minutes of the second half and Jess Simpson, admits that, this is the deepest running back core they have ever had at Buford High School which says, a lot when you're talking about playing for your seventh state championship in 10 years, yeah, we were going over the, you know, we are doing our opening.
I almost told our producer, hey, we got a problem with the graphics, so that just Simpsons coaching record was 81 and for, and clearly that's not accurate.
but clearly it is Third down and four ball is at B24.
Ross Freitag the tight end inside the 10 touchdown.
We got a penalty at the very end of this after the touchdown unsportsmanlike of some sort but watch this little roll out action not exactly bootleg.
And you know what opens that Matt?
I don't know if we have a wider angle there but one of the Buford Lyman started, it look like he was gonna pull near side and if you're a linebacker, you know what you do, you read the linemen.
So if you're following that Buford Lyman coming near side and then the receiver is kind of going against the grain there from his tight end position.
After the play personal foul by the offense that penalty will be on the ensuing kickoff Touchdown.
There's a couple players tangled up right there on the goal line.
Nothing big but the officials obviously wanted to make sure that you don't have any of that.
So throw the penalty flag but when you are reading an offensive lineman and he drags you here side that tight end can kind of just stretched right across the field and get open like you saw patroni pops it through 6:36.
Buford here in the opening three minutes and 40 seconds see you read the linemen and against the linebacker just one step out of place and that's all it takes.
Against a really good team and a player like Kurt Freitag again.
Another Junior 65 to 35 tight end already offered by the South Carolina, Gamecocks, his fourth touchdown, grab of the Season.
That is the 17th touchdown toss for Ross, There's Pride tag, five plays, 43 yards.
226 is all it took off the clock, a 24 yard reception and now Buford has their largest lead of the game 17 points at 6:36.
The sense of I know.
Frustration must have beat must be setting in for this Calhoun team two years in a row.
They have run into this brick wall, called the Buford wolves and they have not been able to solve the equation yet.
And tonight it's Worse than a year ago and they lost 9:47.
It's 6:36.
Now, can I tell you why?
The glass is maybe a third full right now for Calhoun because of these two teams to be down.
One of them to be down.
6:36, Calhoun has a lot more of that quick strike ability to move the football down field.
So there, you know, 6:36, it's time to get up on offense, but at least you're built for that.
Well, they've got a chance for a nice return here because of the penalty kicks Out of Bounds at the 24 so they can take the ball at the 40.
It's another procedure penalty and it's going to be 30 yards downfield from where the ball was kicked.
So it was kicked from the 25.
Do the math.
That would be the 45.
Try again.
Matt, you stumped me there.
I know it's the 45.
I'm right.
I was an English major.
It's the 45-yard line.
Free kick out of bounds by the kicking team.
The ball will be placed at the 45 yard line first down.
They get that right 30 yards from where it was kicked.
Yeah, because they kicked some 25 because of the 15-yard penalty on the touchdown play that was added onto the kickoff.
Give me some chalk out.
Break down the defense and the offense, I'll leave the math to you.
Things that deal with numbers Chuck wants to stay away from now, they're going to put it at the 50.
So First and Ten from the 50-yard line and perhaps Buford on their touchdown left the door.
Open for Calhoun to get back in this thing.
Christian dancing that's a hard two-yard pickup right there.
When you think about the average starting position for Calhoun, it has not been the Midfield stripe and so if you give them 25 or 30 yards, just on things that are entirely preventable.
You know, if you see something happening, In on the goal line after you just scored a touchdown map, Put Your Hands Up Walk Away, don't kick the ball out of bounds.
Instead those two things happen in Calhoun gets a little bit of a break.
Now little bit of juice.
It's second down and eight.
Christian not much doing the linebacker Bart, Mikey Bart on the tackle, maybe a one yard pickup for Calhoun right there.
They've got to get more on their first downs than they're getting all.
They haven't been able to really get the ground game cranked up.
Justin Christians pushing 1600 gets over 1,600 yards now for the season, but just really has not been able to be a consistent ground threat and That's consistently, put them in second, third and long.
He's rushed for over 70 yards today.
Third down, Curtis given time, fires in the middle first.
Down the Clay Johnson at the 32-yard line and that's a good example of what you were talking about.
A few moments ago, Chuck they do have the ability to get back in the Ballgame and do it in a short amount of time and there was smoke coming off that football.
When Landon Curtis Let It Go I think was about six feet off the ground, the entire way down field, that was a tremendous pass.
Its first and ten just shy of the 30-yard line.
Curtis again, given great protection.
It is complete to Palmer.
Palmer, sheds, a tackle.
Inside the 10-yard line down to the eighth.
I don't know if you'll believe me, but that was pretty good coverage by Ryan.
Dillard number 28, when Landon Curtis is about to release this football, his receiver isn't really open but just breaks back to the ball.
So sharply, which is what the great receivers do man.
Pray to the separation, touchdown, Dustin, Christian one man touched him.
Didn't hardly slowing and Calhoun is again, cut it.
Cut it down to about a 10 point lead.
If they can get the p80 it will be a 10-point did quick, give to Christian comes near side, breaks a tackle, and steps into the end zone.
And that's just about what Calhoun needed.
Not only a touchdown map if they had to do it quickly.
Touchdown run of the afternoon for Dustin Christian gives him 24 for the season.
Griffith on for the p80.
And just as it seemed Buford was poised to not Calhoun out of this ball game.
The yellow jackets respond with a 50-yard touchdown Drive of their own as Dustin.
Christian chugs it in, from eight yards out.
It's 24:14 on GPB.
Come on, GPB is made possible in part by supporters of the Georgia, High School Association including the following.
This stage is nowhere near Broadway and none of these actors will be accepting an Oscar anytime soon still, they are rehearsing for something important while they learn their lines.
They're also learning teamwork, discipline self confidence that everyone has a part to play skills.
That will make them Stars long after the curtain Falls, the national Federation Nation of State High School, associations.
Reminds you that when kids take part in high school activities, they get set for life.
6:41 to play here in the third quarter of the Buford wolves leading.
The Calhoun Yellow Jackets, 24 214, mad Stewart, Chuck Auburn Nicki Noto with you, the clasp double a Georgia High School Association state championship game.
Calhoun Buford meeting for the third consecutive year never happened in Georgia high school football history, short 5 Play 50 yard Drive took 99 seconds and Christian with the second touchdown.
Of the night impoundments back in the ball game.
Especially if they get another strong kick from Griffith here and make him start at the 20-yard line.
You can hear the Calhoun side of this Georgia Dome making a heck of a noise that is a 69-yard kick off the tee and that we've talked about how impressive Buford has been so far tonight.
Despite injuries to three pretty significant players but Calhoun has their own injury and as we were talking with Coach lamb coming out of halftime, you could see the 31 sticker on his hat, all the kids have it on their helmet as well.
Yeah, number 31, Jacob Young starting cornerback for this.
Team with a team-leading four interceptions back, home had an appendectomy this week and not available to play today.
Malcolm long took his spot in the starting lineup.
Ross scrambling got by Freeman steps out of bounds.
Hit by night as he was going out of bounds and good job.
By the officials there to keep the flag in their pocket.
They could have easily thrown one there, but that was not a night.
Just hit him as he reached the sideline man.
There was something wrong with that plan.
Way.
Because when Ross rolls out to his right, there's only one receiver in the pattern, look at the top of that.
There's nobody else out there.
So when he rolls there supposed to be a deeper route, there's supposed to be a deeper out, nobody ran it.
And so I'm telling you Ross was looking for somebody else because there were three Calhoun Defenders around his one receiver because second down and four, See on Jones?
No, Running Room.
Kayden Parker number 93.
Making the tackle.
Calhoun really known for a good hard-nosed.
Defense up front, a strong defensive front with Caden, Parker and Gus Roberts.
Number 44, read, Alan the defensive end.
Pink is the defense got jacked up a little bit but what?
They just offered me offense and I guarantee you.
You said it was only a minute and a half that Calhoun had possession.
I promise you, those Calhoun defensive coaches had that defense over there trying to get them jacked up again to go out and play some good day.
It is third down and two, Dylan lie in motion behind the line, they're going to try to get the ball to him perhaps lost.
Instead The Keeper picked up the first down.
Run it all the way.
Yeah heady run by Alex Ross to pick up the first they don't run him often but that was a good strong run right there and you said run all the way you could see the with twins to the top of the field.
And those guys were just trying to run their Defenders off the by.
See he's already tucked it and run and you saw the offensive lineman trying to get down field.
That was absolutely as basically a quarterback sweep.
I thought they might try to toss the ball to the motion man Dylan Lee, but you were right.
First and Ten for Buford as they moved the sticks and keep the clock running in their favor.
See, I'm Jones.
Look at that.
Tara, wait, Jersey.
I haven't seen that about 30 years, and Earl Campbell Herschel, Walker.
Earl Campbell error tear away.
Jersey right there.
I haven't seen a jersey tear like that in forever.
I think, you know what, there was that one string hanging and it just the whole thing.
Unravels, you know, They don't make the jerseys to tear.
Like they remember the Tearaway just slowly second down and three and they were out.
I was a Outlaw.
They were made illegal for a good reason.
They did not hold the shoulder pad pads in place as well as the the more permanent jerseys.
Their those jerseys were made out of flash paper, Okay?
First, I mean, you touch them and they disintegrated second down and three.
See, I'm Jones.
Second effort gets close to the first down.
They had him in the backfield.
Let him slip away.
Yeah, that was baby forth, effort.
Matt that got him the first down and the Man in the white hat says, yeah, go ahead and move those sticks.
Watch this.
You line up your full back right style right on the line of scrimmage Calhoun knows where it's going, but Jones able to kind of slip to to that next Gap out and no happiness there from Alex Kirby.
See on Jones now, getting the bulk of the labor here from Running back position.
14 carries 66 yards.
First and Ten ball at the 41.
So he's one of the few seniors on this team so he's trying to get all the work.
You can slope is another one of the seniors and slope picks up about four yards as he Rams his body up to the 45 Swope, they 6-foot 195 pounds, senior fullback on this team, not typical size for a fullback, but they moved him.
They're from the tailback position because they felt he was more comfortable.
There, he's been offered by the Maryland.
Terrapins going to get him on the field.
You're exactly right.
So second down and six.
Approaching three and a half minutes to play.
This is a recipe.
That was cooked up by Buford perfect for what they want to do.
Just grind the clock.
If we get points, all the better to dwell on the field again.
Sorry, man.
I'm sorry for them.
I can't add but it can't count.
So they'll this will back them up a little bit.
We'll see if it's time.
He's what will has turned into a pretty impressive March from their 20-yard line?
Disregard to flag.
If you for call a timeout to get out you freak out, I'm out and that's it.
You know, what a coach will recognize that to Matt when he realizes, he's got 12 in the Huddle.
The only way to get out of that is called a timeout.
Because, no matter what you do with that point, like, you broke the huddle with 12, you know, the Georgia high school championship games here at the Georgia, Dome has the sparkling Jewel of the sports athletic season for the Georgia, High School Association, but more than 250,000 students, participate in GHSA activities each year over 70,000 boys and girls compete in athletics and an additional 84,000.
Plus student participate in debate.
One-act play and literary competitions.
They all get letter.
Jackets, that's the important thing.
Get the letter jacket.
You always wanted to be sporting that letter jacket, when you walk down the hall, didn't because nobody actually looks too closely to see what's on the letter jacket.
They just want to know you have one.
It is second down and six ball is at the 45 yard line.
Following the timeout by the wolves that have two remaining here in the second half.
Eric bar, submerged by Caden Parker.
Yeah.
Locker, having a big gang.
I am really fall in love with some of these Defenders from Calhoun.
These are some tough times.
Of kids out there and they got put behind the 8-ball early, you know.
Buford just tears down the field for that opening touchdown you blink and suddenly it's 14 to nothing and you're playing catch-up well, you hold them to a field goal and then that early touchdown.
But Matt, even that was off a great field position when Beaufort able to force that early punt in the penalty.
So tough, tough afternoon for the Yellowjackets Defenders.
Look at Caden, Parker's helmet.
Third down, Ross heavy, Rush some night, being chased around the edge.
Night Catches Up with him at the 46.
Yeah.
It's just as well for Alex Ross, that he recognized that pass rush from the backside.
Super job of a Pursuit here by number 600 night.
And it's 4th down and they forced Buford into their first punting situation of the day.
JT Palmer back at the 25-yard line to receive for the Yellowjackets, petroni standing at his 32 to kick.
Heavy rush off the edge.
They got it away.
Fair catch called for by Palmer at the 25 Palmer's had a couple of big catches.
We saw one on the previous possession, man on that touchdown drive.
But for the most part, his damage has been limited.
Great job by Buford today and All Phases of the game, DVDs of this game and all five championship games can be ordered at GHSA dot TV.
That's GHSA dot TV to order.
First State Championship Game DVD.
First and Ten from the 25 Calhoun down by 10 as we approach the final two minutes of this third quarter pump fake double move, the trying to get Palmer out there.
They dumped it for him and it is broken up Dillard again that was Dustin Christian and not Palmer.
Number five, instead of three, they tried to get on the double move.
Interesting formation Calhoun goes double tight ends.
Matt and keeps both of them in to make sure that they're going to give their Quarterback.
Landon Curtis time to operate.
When you throw that kind of Route, little bit of a double move, you get the pump fake, trying to get the ball down field, it takes a long time for that thing to develop there's your pump, still not ready to.
Okay.
Now I can throw it, that's why they kept both tight ends to provide protection as good defense.
Good defense second down and 10.
Double tight against the same thing.
It just didn't you have.
Kristen is the Man in Motion split out to the top of your screen, they'll go to the other side, instead off the hands of played Jones, broken up by bar staring at a third and ten now, and you've had a shot on first and second down if your Calhoun on the first play goes through the hands of Christian and then not able to come up with the grab, their Clay Johnson, but the ball on the tar, on Target on first and second down.
Not easy catches but you know, State title game.
Third down and 10 coming up.
Stack, the receivers from the top.
Again, they've had some success with that.
So far and near side, Heavy Rush Legrand Akron quarterback.
Sack number 84, Rick lagrant drops.
Curtis back at the 15th, we had just talked about Calhoun and how much respect they gave that Buford pass rush.
I'm quite certain that coach lamb didn't design any play where he says okay we're not going to block Lou, Grant some happen there there was some sort of breakdown but after 1st and 2nd down going double tight ends and keeping them both in on Third and ten.
Why'd everybody going out into the pattern?
And then lagrant just comes free.
30th sack of the season for the Buford wolves Curtis no rush.
Deep punt.
English calls fair catch backing up, makes it at the 48-yard line that's top was huge by the Beaufort defense map because obviously Mo had put on a white jersey right there in the Buford defense gets them to go three and out and they actually wind up losing yardage.
Yeah.
I was going to say it was not just to stop, it was a pushback.
Sure, that sets up your offense 52 yards away from the end zone.
And we have You two seconds to play here in the third quarter.
Now I only coached in one State title game but I've talked to so many other guys who have been in one time or five times, however, many when you're down there on the sidelines, Matt you look up and all of a sudden it's the end of the third quarter, you think of learning to hack at this game go it gets away so quickly.
Five-yard pickup on first down.
Another steady dose this time, it was Darien Smith, five different running backs will carry the one who's them whose number today, especially you get out of this third quarter here with a 10 point lead and the ball, what a contrast to a week ago.
When, you know, going in against Carver.
You know, number one on scouting report on.
Yeah, Isaiah Crowell got to stop that guy.
We stopped that guy.
We feel like we've got a chance of winning.
They held him to less than 100 yards, after he gained over 300, in the Final win the week before here against Buford, who do you start with?
We stopped this guy.
Okay, there.
Now, there's another guy.
Was another guy was like I said, went for 178 last week against love it and you still ran five or six guys.
Dead ball encroachment.
By the offense five yards remains second down sometimes that's a wide receiver lining up offsides, which is why you know, if you ever see the guys run up to the line of scrimmage and you see the wide receiver kind of put his arm out, he's just making sure to the official.
Hey I'm on the line of scrimmage.
The ref will tell him.
Oh yeah.
You're on the line of scrimmage but if you're offsides, that's your own business.
So, second down and 10 ball back at the original line of scrimmage.
English made the grab at the 47 Ross now.
11 for 11.
Say that again, 11 for 11 passing.
In this game, thought I had misheard, you have not good grab there on the kind of a double catch their from English.
That's the put a wrap on the third quarter map and that is how the third quarter comes to an end.
We played 36 minutes at the Georgia Dome with 12 to go before the double a state championship game is decided Buford gunning for their fourth in a row and leading Calhoun 20 14 on GPB.

Time.
This is GPB television worth sharing with everyone in Georgia.
Start of the fourth quarter, Buford perhaps only 12 minutes away from tying, West Rome, as the only School in Georgia High School Association history to win four consecutive state titles West Rome, did it 1982 83, 84 and 85.
Buford gunning for their eighth State title.
Overall, they have 17 in the past decade, and they have dominated time of possession in this game.
Nearly 8:33.
Ross scrambling, Ross going down.
Another quarterback sacks went Frisch's with a big one and that's going to force the Wolves to pump the ball on the second play of the fourth quarter.
Matt, I don't overstate this at all.
That's the kind of defensive play, the keeps you in the ball game and 11 for 11 as impressive as it is, you really want to get rid of the football there, and there's a flag on the field.
You wonder if it was Hold on the interior of that line, which obviously Calhoun would do with the client.
It was a horrible Be Free by the offense, that penalty is declined.
Results in a play, make it fourth down, well, that is such a huge sack by Fricks his first of the Season by the way because it's a big loss and it gives you a chance to maybe salvage a little field position.
Instead of being hunted, deep into your own territory.
They bake it Smith, bobbled it.
And I have the balls going to go over on down at the 35.
I wasn't fake.
I bet that could have been a fake.
That was just a off Target either alignment by the kid.
I don't imagine that they're on a fourth and it would seem to be an odd choice of a fake situation.
Yeah, it was just a, I don't know, but the snap seem to be going right at him.
I don't know.
Maybe the Snapper thought it was a fake and nobody else did.
I don't know.
I don't know the kids on this Buford roster have a lot more football savvy than you know to think on Fourth and 16 or 17 whatever that was 14 that we're going to fake it.
Randolph, Dustin Christian bolts inside the 35, down to the 34, Dylan Lee, making the tackle for the Wolves but now Following an incredible change of events.
Calhoun has a great opportunity to be back in this ballgame and turn this into a tight.
Fourth quarter to be got Nicki Noto down there.
She needs to get herself embedded on the Beaufort Sidelines and figure out what happened right there.
That's what we need.
That was incredible.
Curtis, they run a screen to Darius Washington first time, Washington has touched the ball in the ball game, gets down to the 30 yard line flag is out on the play set up, pretty well, but then Buford actually kind of peeled back and defended.
It At the receiver in the flat, a couple of linemen in front of him.
We've been focusing, the think it's going against Calhoun.
And it is.
Poland by the offense.
Ten-yard penalty from the spot of the foul replay second down Advanced.
You will get another look at some point.
I'm sure such a Let's check in with Nicki Noto down on the sideline real quick.
Hey guys.
I was just told that that was not a fake.
That was a bad snap from belong, Snapper.
All right.
Thank you very much.
That's why she's down there.
Like I said, I wanted to get another look at it because you look at the Lyman.
The up back.
Nobody reacted, as if it was going to be a fake, tried to squeeze the ball in there on the far, sideline Palmer again the intended receiver and not a bad idea because there are times as good as the Buford defense is and as hard as those kids work, you know what?
Sometimes we say, my guys better.
And when you got JT Palmer, pretty confident, looking out there and seeing a six foot three wide receiver who has his choice among a few schools.
And saying my guys better, let's get him involved a little bit more to Third and 15, you've got to think that's what's a count going through Calhoun's play.
Call him right now.
10 minutes 44 seconds left in regulation.
Buford a ten-point lead.
Palmer and motion behind the line.
Curtis given time gets it back to Palmer.
Flag down on the field.
It ain't like I'm down for you.
Yeah, I mean that just that's just a Crusher it's a killer because you had a you had a chance to bring up a fourth and short.
Okay, I got you I got a correct that it legal men downfield.
It's off to love them.
See what the white had calls.
You never know.
I saw some point jerseys:, not a defense goodness gracious.
Lead added to the end of the room first down.
Wow, I saw to 200 from Calhoun about five yards downfield when that ball was thrown and It's not only the catchments, the first down with a penalty map, it is a First and Ten at the 21 yard line first.
A bad snap on a punt, gave the ball Calhoun, gave the ball to Calhoun at the 39 and now on a huge third and long holding defensive holding automatic first down at the 21 Christian, no place to run Malik green, the linebacker, making the tackle for the wolves.
And Christian around 80 yards rushing today and you think hey he's got the heavy lifting, he had one 30-yard run and a couple of other good runs on top of that.
But for the most part he's been earning every inch of that this afternoon second down and ten coming up.
Christian 84 yards, they go to the end zone for lamb intercepted.
CJ more CJ, more with the interception for the wolves.
His team-leading sixth pick of the season comes at, perhaps the most appropriate time, the proper position by more inside between the quarterback and the receiver.
You have the opportunity.
If you needed to use that sideline to help you defend the receiver.
Not enough air under the ball and More in perfect position and give the kid credit he squeezes.
It goes down in the end zone.
Here for is going to scrimmage on the 20-yard line map kind of surprising that on.
That route they chose to go to bin lamb.
Not the bins not a fine wide receiver but not go to JT Palmer who has been their big play guy.
He just Simpson big stop in the backfield by Caden Parker.
Again, Chuck, you're going to have to get that guy, some gold stars just a patch up, his helmet, cover up some of those mess, no scuffs.
And scratches he, I think he lost the Jay on that other side of the helmet to say.
No J anymore.
On the front side.
That's a hard working man, right?
There.
But going back to my point, you know, just Simpson.
That's one of the things he pointed out.
We asked him what concerns you most about Calhoun and he specifically said, JT Palmer's, a guy that can go up while he's in the middle of two Defenders and come down with the balls.
It was interesting on that route, they chose not to go to him frightening, two tight ends both to the near side.
Okay, there you go, Alex Cross, try to get him settled well of a senior quarterback.
See I'm Jones tripped up, that was Caden Parker.
I think it may be tripped him up and Hunter night fell on top of him at the 25.
But 93 was the guy who clicked his ankles five yards and you know the best part about that 30 more seconds.
See see if 93 got in there and I didn't he was just in there.
Yeah, that was a hundred night, third down and five.
Now we're down to eight and a half minutes to play.
You gotta know that.
Some of those Calhoun fans are thinking.
Hey, do you for commercial single a and one point could y'all go back down for Sandy grief?
Throwing and that is the first incompletion in the Ballgame chance Beaver.
The free safety, a tremendous job.
They were trying to squeeze it in there.
The Freitag, the tight end and chance Beaver jumped in front of the last moment and batted it down with his arm and Ross, finally rolled a seven on that.
Could have been much worse though some mustard on it that would have been just better than a real difficult pasta.
Complete clock stops.
Eight and a half minutes left Calhoun's.
Going to get the ball back.
You think worst-case around Midfield?
Palmer has a chance to return this from the 43.
Andre Johnson runs him out of Bounds at the 48-yard line.
Eight minutes.
22 seconds left in regulation.
Buford leading Calhoun 24:14 and the GHSA double A State final and we're coming back for the final eight minutes of this contest in just a moment.
Come on, GPB is made possible in part, by supporters of the Georgia, High School Association including the following.
I'm only going to try meth once.
I'm not going to be like that guy.
Look, I'm only gonna smoke meth once.
I'm not gonna be like that.
Guy look, I'm just gonna shoot up, just this once.
All right, I'm not gonna be like that guy.
I'm fine.
I'm not gonna be like that guy.
Well, I gotta do my thumbs.
I'm not going to end up like that guy.
At the end of that punt return by JT Palmer.
Right before the break, a face mask penalty of 15 yards grabbing and twisting the face mask.
So, the ball at the 38 yard line for the yellow jackets and they're right back where they were before the previous interception ended, their last possession.
A keeper by Landon Curtis that's the first time all game.
They have run that play where they did not give it to Christian real.
Good job there you see, Tyler Cooper, number 50, coming down the line of scrimmage trying to blow open the hole there and it was a read There by Landon Curtis.
That's not predetermined.
Good job by number two, making the proper reading turning that thing up field for an eight-yard gain on first down.
You gotta love that map.
Landon Curtis has First from Austin, Peay and West, Georgia.
It's second down.
Step, shop, throwing dead, man, open, TouchDown.
Ryerson got behind the defense.
When the play breaks down the Temptation from a defensive back is the Wonder.
Hey, wait a minute.
Why am I still in coverage?
Why hasn't anything happened?
And when you beat back for one second, Matt that's That's all it takes with a good quarterback and a good receiver has anything happened.
At the top of thumb is the play over.
So you look back at the line of scrimmage and at that second, it is too late.
Buford has done so much right for three and a half quarters.
They look up and they how is this only a three-point ball game?
184 21 possession.
You look at the rushing yards, the turnovers.
Now, watch Landon, Curtis landed, Curtis, bought time with display, did a super job doesn't cross the line of scrimmage heater, which can be another concern stayed active in the pocket, and stepped up and delivered the past and a great job by.
Ryerson, not to give up on the play, Ryerson, that is just his seventh catch of the season, but five of them have gone for Touchdown.
I don't know who was supposed to have Ryerson, but I promise it wasn't Andre Johnson.
We man, would you agree?
You're not going to have?
No, it's not the love.
Back covers, 40 yards, downfield, And we've got a game with seven minutes and 44 seconds to play Calhoun.
Trying to drive a stake right in the middle, a buford's drive towards history and Ryerson was wondering why nobody liking I mean he was by himself over there ryerson's a big-time Prospect just waiting to happen.
He's got great measurables, he's 64 200.
Just a junior did play for two years.
He's basically just now getting his football shaped ball.
Return by Jones up to the 20, to the flag on the field and Buford uncharacteristically.
Has come apart here in the second half and news for you man.
Calhoun hasn't even taken advantage of all the opportunities.
Another penalty Harold, the Wolves during a return.
Illegal Block.
In the back, I have seen more great High School.
Father seasoning, Georgia math, and maybe any year.
And the wolves are backed up at the 7-yard line at this point time for some other going to go with a stack.
I do they have a 93-yard grinder in them to put this game away.
This Calhoun get the ball back toss goes nothing doing for Eric Barb, Caden Parker.
How many times have we called the seniors name today?
Makes another big tackle.
And I promise there is not a more basic play.
In the Buford Playbook than what?
We just saw there 51 Gabe framing in it.
C-44, as well read Alan, five tackles for the 6-foot 255 pounds.
Senior playing against Buford for the third time.
In his career, a three-year starter for the Yellowjackets.
Anchoring the defensive line for Calhoun trying to bring them home.
The Ultimate Prize for the first time since 1952 pass is complete to ball English.
Stepping out of Bounds at the 17-yard line.
That's right.
On a first down marker and it's close to it.
We've seen Buford throw this exact pass, man.
How many times five times today?
Completed all of them that time random with two receivers in the pattern, from that side of the field, they can bring the chains all the way over.
What are they doing?
Holding by the defense that penalty is added to the end of the run.
First down, there you go up to the 27-yard line, forget about a measurement and no need to drag that chain all the way across the field.
I love both of the quarterbacks in this ball game.
Chuck ballplayers absolutely.
Alex, Ross, going to finish either number one or number two on most of the Buford career.
Passing records, Landon Kurdish waited his.
Turn nearly won the job as a 10th grader in the Nash.
Nance transferred in, you know, he's a D1 Prospect, he won the job.
And now as a senior finally got a chance to direct his offense for the Yellowjackets.
See on Jones, nothing chance Bieber, goodness gracious.
See him flying up and run support.
22.
Watch Beaver on the replay, right?
Up at the line of scrimmage.
This looks like you got to block her out front.
Your fullbacks, picked up somebody break at at, boom, there you go.
Turn it back inside.
Hang onto a jersey, you know, Chuck this might be a good spot if you've got a good play action play because they're selling out for the wrong.
This might be the play this with me, the opportunity where you got them all, chomping at the line of scrimmage, you have a d-bag going to Cardiac Arrest right now, second down and Let's see if they try to do something like that.
Spread out double move English broke off his route.
They thought English, Ross thought English was going deep, Ross or rather English broke into the middle of the field protected.
Really well, as Ross was rolling near side had three blockers in front of him.
And not must pass rush there from Calhoun because they, when they read past kind of dropped back into coverage and nowhere to throw the football game.
When you rolled, is it princess on that, play Your Role with your side, you only have one option down field, if you're a lacrosse, you know, earlier this week, when you talking to Jessica Simpson, you asked him about playing the state championship game on your home field as opposed to playing at the Georgia Dome.
Let me tell you something, the Calhoun folks brought Calhoun to the Georgia Dome today.
They got a home field type atmosphere working here.
Zones dust Roberts hitting, and then Hunter night.
Cleaned it up, fourth down, punting situation for the Wolves Yellow.
Jackets are going to get the ball back.
If there were two 4241 left instead of 541.
I think I kind of get that a little bit more but on 3rd and 10 with almost six minutes left, you know, running, the clock isn't necessarily an option as effective as Alex.
Ross has been too damn surprise, Buford didn't take a shot downfield there.
Patroni, they go for us return right here Palmer.
Can't return.
That one, fair catch made at the 36 whooping, straight down a chimney, shoot.
Wasn't it great pump by patroni, and he's just a sophomore for 517 the season for some of these kids their career, this is it.
Hal Lamb coaching the yellow, jackets for a 12th season.
What he likes about being a head coach.
I enjoy trying to make a difference in kids lives.
You know, it's not about winning and losing is trying to make a difference in their lives.
You know, after high school, or after college, you know, to make young men out of them.
And that's my goal.
And, you know, it's, it's a very difficult job at times, but it's very rewarding.
Most of the time pass completion to Christian a very rewarding play on first down.
They pick up 19 up to the 50.
Great option, get the ball in the somebody's hands.
You know and Christian is not only their leading rusher, he's also there s leading.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Coach Hal Lamb believes Christian will be kind of asked at wide receiver.
The next level he can play running back, he can play in the slot play that wide receiver position as well multifaceted with his great skills and speed.
Speed sweep Palmer.
Looks like he wants to fall pass.
He's looking deep for lamb lamb can catch up with it at the 12-yard line.
Had a shot at that had a shot.
When Palmer started to kind of belly that back, you knew he was trying to give himself time to look downfield.
Yeah.
You know, I got a shot at it.
Yeah, I don't fault the trick play right there.
But if I'm taking that shot deep, I want my best gun throwing that thing.
The pass was not on the mark and it was too long and now it's second down and ten, I think there's just such a reaction.
When you see number 3 Palmer, get the ball to, they were hoping everybody kind of gets sucked up.
All of the 50.
Andre Johnson with the quarterback sack.
And now it's going to be third down and 20 coming near side.
Really only there were twins to the near side but with the way the routes went, when Curtis kind of got flushed up in the pocket a little bit, he only had one option and there was good coverage down field.
So there really was nothing to do with the football as far as gaming yards Yoo-hoo, He gets rid of it, you don't lose any.
Let's see what they got for third and 20 in The Playbook Curtis guns.
It deep and nearly intercepted by bar.
Two receivers three defensive backs.
All right, coach Chuck Oliver its fourth down and 20 ball at the 4403 to play three timeouts.
Yeah, you're going to punt I agree.
You got the three timeouts to stop them on offense.
You can call your timeouts after you make the stop.
But yeah, I agree.
Fourth and 20.
You got no recourse right?
Got upon.
You think about it, but your point.
Yeah.
I mean it's Fourth and five.
You really think about it, fourth and 20, you don't You know, changes that is the three timeouts Curtis.
Kicks it over the head of even just a cloud that is that balls going to wrote down at the 40 yard line.
English didn't field it let it go over his head and that cost him about 30 yards.
They're going to spot this down, on the 1-yard line.
We're like somebody dipped it in bacon, grease at the last second there, but didn't have 24 yard line.
First down.
Yeah, Buford just making some uncharacteristic errors mental errors here in the second half that we just have not seen from them below before but certainly not very often.
I promise you this final 351, they're hanging on for dear life.
Got to give Calhoun.
Lot of credit this come back See I'm Jones, Alex Kirby hitting and see on Jones.
Did a good job of spinning off of that whack and getting up to the 10 yard line.
I remember this Matt, you know you're talking about that.
Whatever was 15 20 yards.
Extra that changes everything if Calhoun gets the ball back because they got Russell or erxleben on their side lines and they they got a shot at a long field goal.
Right?
That 15, 20 yards, extra makes a huge difference for those in our audience, who don't remember Russell erxleben He was a great field goal kicker with a booming leg and a terrific, for course, would be that analogy.
That Chuck is applying this to Griffith with a 55 yard, field goal today.
And, and certainly how lamb feels comfortable running them out there from just about anywhere on the field.
I think that's not important, false start Mighty offense, five yards, maybe three or four players moving.
I think that the center was actually, the only one who didn't move.
So, again a penalty on the walls makes it second down and 10 with the ball at the 5-yard line and we are approaching three minutes to play.
Goodness gracious.
The doll Alexander.
The biggest of the big time prospects in this ball game, just jumped offside for SNAP false.
Start on the offense of penalties.
Half the distance remains second down met.
Sometimes you do something wrong and you hope nobody saw.
Not that time.
You have a dowel is.
What about 653?
Several.
You're not going to miss you.
He's a big boy.
Second down.
Andre Johnson pulling the pile bricks, finally stopped him at the 9 yard line pick up of six but now it's third down and about six coming up very very tough.
Six yards.
Their credit Johnson, quite a bit.
Now Calhoun's going to take the first of those three timeouts, that's a great call there.
That's when you got to use it.
Stops the clock with two minutes and 43 seconds to play in regulation.
Mad.
I can't tell you how much more that field goals on play right now because of what happened on that button by Calhoun Jessica Simpson and his sixth season.
As the wolf's head coach trying to win a fourth state championship.
We asked him, what do you like about coaching this team?
What I like best about coaching is, is the people, you know, you know, guys that are working with kids and coaching football love kids.
First the kids that are willing to do what we ask them to do from a work in a commitment standpoint.
They're great kids.
You can't because, you know, you can't be a selfish kid.
You can't be a lazy kid and be a part of what we're doing and we got some really neat kids in our community in our program.
Jessica Simpson played for Coach Dexter would at Marietta High School in court.
Dexter went on to become the head coach at Beaufort.
And now, the athletic director, and when Dexter, would stepped aside and retired as head.
Coach, Jess, Simpson took his spot, guess played at Auburn, on that SEC Championship team in 1989, and was an assistant coach student coach that is to Pat dye and then Terry bout and tonight, gunning for his fourth State title.
Pass incomplete broken up by Everett.
little bit behind Paris Head who had five catches in the first half, but none here in the second gutsy gutsy gutsy and I'm telling you It was right there for the Defenders well and I'm talking about a gutsy play call didn't work out for you.
At least making Calhoun, maybe use another timeout running a little bit more Bach dead.
Going for the first down on the pass Palmer.
Fair catch called for and made at the 44 and they are really only about 15, 15 yards away from being in legitimate feel the rage.
Now, Adam Griffith has kicked a 55-yard about I'm talking about oh sure, comfortable, we really put the odds in your favor week four and a half.
Game.
Yep.
Wow, here we go.
To 35, to play.
Buford leading Calhoun 2421.
Wolves have won three straight state titles.
The last two years they've beaten Calhoun.
Yellow.
Jackets, trying to rewrite the record book flag is down on the completion of Christian where he probably got a hold.
This going to bring this one back.
Yeah, you do.
And if you look on the replay, you're going to see.
Kurt Freitag.
That gets you.
What happened to him?
Would get you two points and Olympic wrestling.
Here, it's going to be 10 yards.
And that's how you take yourself out of field, goal range.
That's from the spot, Matt.
Yeah, this is not an NFL penalty where it's a 10 yard Markoff from the line of scrimmage in high school football.
It's part of the valve, body offense, 10 yards from the spot of the foul replay first down.
See the funny thing is met your support.
There's gonna be pressure on a screen pass because those Lyman, you kind of jack up the deal I'm and then get downfield.
Walk somebody Freitag broke through and had no choice but to hold him first and 27.
Christian spin move will not be able to slip out of the Tackle by Malik green.
Second down.
Clock continues to run yellow.
Jackets have two timeouts remaining, Buford has to as well.
S 28, you're thinking how in the world does this happen?
We just had an eight-yard gain on first down and now I'm staring at second 28.
Massive substitutions here for the Yellowjackets.
Ryerson who had a touchdown catch earlier in this quarter of 30 yards is split to the bottom of your screen and now Palmer in motion behind the line.
They're looking for Palmer.
They throw to him the Hook and Ladder Up, who is a Christian up to the 45.
Got a good bit of it back, but it's still out of field goal range with 120 in running third down.
Coming up, Dario Harris to Tony, Nathan and then downfield for a huge gain about 16 on that play.
And now, third and 12.
And we said, well, executed, that's a tough boy, from the 45 Curtis Watterson in field goal, range at the 25.
What a reaction from Calhoun tough break on that holding penalty, second 28, turns into a first down.
They're going to scrimmage on the 25 still got 57 seconds.
Left still have two timeouts.
Second, Big Catch of the quarter for Chase Ryerson and a timeout called by Buford Number 21, Chase Ryerson did not play football as a freshman came out as a sophomore, suffered a hip injury that here in his Junior season, just now starting to make an impact.
You're going to read his name in those recruiting list.
Next year, is a senior Big Catch down to the 25 yard line and at this Ranger talking about a 42-yard field goal.
Well, within the distance of Adam Griffin through already as a junior has three offers from SEC schools.
57 seconds to play in regulation and I promise you coach Lambs thinking remember that day, back in August, when we practice The Hook and Ladder.
Yep, go ahead.
Does that all fit second 28?
We got a minute left in our season.
No time.
Like the present.
Well, they tried to gadget plays in the quarter one that worked in one that didn't.
Resourceful day from land and Curtis.
This is not last week when he was darn near perfect.
But a very good game First and Ten from the 25 year-old so books and they bring it, they dumped it off.
The Christian one man to beat, keep beating great.
Tackles Navy nice, open field, Tackle by Eric bar, actually lost yardage on the play, and Buford was sending pressure out of the sky boxes here in the Georgia, Dome, second down clock.
Still running trying to send some fresh bodies onto the field.
Lot of time running off here.
Curtis can't take a shot.
Throws on the Run incomplete.
We made the grab the lamb could not get the feet down.
Paco stop still have two timeouts.
You might have wanted to use one there because you still have one for the potential field goal but that was Palmer.
Not lamb.
Number three, watch.
Did he get a foot down?
Put not map, I will opine.
Bet Curtis would at least have an option here to pick up five six, seven yards, not necessarily the first down, but they're going to give him an option just to get this ball a little while.
Oh, sir.
Well let me ask you this as well.
We're down to 20 seconds, its third and 13.
Do you take the shot at the end zone here?
Or do you run a few, maybe even run Christian into the middle of a field on a draw.
Play to try to get it, set yourself up in the middle of the field, for a field goal that certainly well within Adam Griffiths range.
But straight on dead on.
Got a 45-yard field goal from this spot and from the far hash I probably see he's a right footed.
Kicker, right?
So, it's going to be a little easier.
Actually kind of hooked this thing back when I see so many kickers when they just try to kind of angle it, you know, from that like from the near hash, if he's a right footed.
Kicker What Palmer on the outside you may want to take a shot at the end zone?
But I'm telling you, if I'm the coach right here, I'm getting five or six yards.
Just to take that off the kicker's mind.
Maybe trying to get that thing up at the 20-yard line.
Well, let me tell you if this is any indication of what's going to happen in the next four games, he might as well not move off that sofa.
Certainly, if you got to go somewhere, use your DVR, you do not want to miss any of this.
It's third down and 13 with the ball at the 28.
Heavy Rush bright at coming off the edge growth and its broken up at the 15 yard line by Andre Johnson, trying to get it, to Clay Johnson, and Andre Johnson broke it up.
And now it is fourth down, would have been right at the first down marker.
Actually, you know what, he would have fallen forward.
He'd have been down on about the 14, 13 yard line, that would have been a first down.
You know what?
In credit, coach lamb in the offensive staff over there, play to win.
Give him credit.
This is for the tie and most likely to send the game to overtime and anything.
But easy believe me.
45 yard kick for Adam Griffith.
It's on its way.
It is good.
Now in Years Gone by we would be looking at handing up to Trophies, not anymore.
It's not the case anymore.
Folks we are ten seconds away from overtime in the Georgia, High School Association, double a state championship game, Adam Griffith with ice water in his veins.
Blasted that one through the uprights with plenty of room to spare on a 45-yard kick that kid, but like he was kicking during specialty period at the beginning of a Stroke it right through the uprights and and you're on the bark there they could have back that thing up ten yards and it was still being good.
That was a tremendous kick and the biggest of situations for Calhoun and I'm going to tell you something right now, man with about 10 minutes to go.
When it was 9:36, excuse me, 24:14.
I was thinking this ball game might be over and I kind of threw out the obligatory.
Hey we got a lot of football left to play.
I didn't think.
This is the football we be seeing for the final 10 minutes, the yellow jackets have scored 17 unanswered points since falling behind.
6:36 just three minutes and 40 seconds into the second half and now we are 10 ticks of the clock away from lining up and playing over time.
And if the previous results, hold here, this bottle and five or six yards in the end zone.
A line drive kick instead that will swarm into the end zone.
Just barely And so, Buford will take over at the 20.
No time off the clock.
They'll have a chance to run.
Maybe, one, two more plays.
We'll see how they handle this thing.
Now we've talked all game long, mad about how the Juniors for Buford have made such an impact?
How about Adam Griffith?
Yep.
Junior.
Junior kicker for Calhoun.
Got a feel of it.
He'll be going to school for free somewhere.
one of the top Junior kickers in the nation, An incredible story to a young man from Poland who moved to the United States.
The first game that he ever kicked in was the first football game he ever saw.
And the Deep Snapper Fricks and the holder lamb have been together with him since the seventh grade and that precision, and execution paid.
Huge dividends for how Lambs team with ten seconds to play and we are at 24 At the end of 48 minutes now I told you that days gone by.
We would award a to Trophies right now.
Other days gone by Matt that we get this orange pylon and one paneer attention.
Deja, what team would start driving down field, wherever they got that.
Put that pylon on the sidelines and then the other team to get a shot at it.
We've Advanced past the Stone Age now.
So we have something approximating.
What you see on Saturdays?
Well dr. Ralph swearengen and the Georgia High School Association.
Ation made that change to a modify the over time as we looks in it.
Listen in on that, Hal Lamb huddle up to his kids there he basically said have you watched on Saturdays?
It's almost like that some 10 yards different.
That's right, you started.
15-yard line.
You can pick up a first down.
If we go to a third overtime and then you have to go for the tube.
Can't kick the one point pH.
Griffith the same.
Let's start at the 40.
I'm fine with that.
How hard you think their hearts are thumping right now.
And you know what?
Even you can't literally beat.
You can't be more experienced than these two teams at the highest level, and they're still down there, going 100 miles.
A minute, I'm sure 2424.
The Georgia High School Association, double a state championship game will require overtime to decide it.
Let's check in with Nicki Noto down on the sideline.
Hey guys, I talked to kicker Adam Griffith and he said at first when he kicked that ball he was nervous.
But once it went through the uprights he said he was confident and he is confident in his team that they're going to win this overtime, back to you guys.
Thank you, Mickey.
He's over there on the bike right now, staying loose?
Because no doubt they're gonna call on his Services.
Again before this ball game is over.
Well, he's getting used to Life as a kicker.
You did your job.
Now, go sit on the bike and pedal.
The official explained.
The rules to Jess Simpson and how lamp quite frankly.
These teams are not accustomed to playing over time.
They typically Mash their opponents by four and five touchdowns as recently as say last weekend Buford prejudice against love it.
The big upset with Calhoun over Barbara So Calhoun won the toss.
As you take a look at the overtime procedures, this is a modified NCAA college, football format, each team receives a possession at the 15-yard line.
Possession ends with a score turnover or running out of downs.
Alternate possessions continue until there is a winner and teams must go for the two-point.
Conversions, starting with the third overtime possession.
Now, the other big decision you have to make as a coach is When you win that cost, you want to go on offense?
First or do you want to go on defense first?
If I were a head coach, I choose defense because then you know what you got to do when your offense possession to win the game and and the one big difference.
Also, man, besides that, instead of the 25 is the 15.
Is that the defense gains possession plays over?
Yeah, not like the Georgia Florida game where you got to run down field and try to make a tackle, Paul's death.
So, in that regard, it's like a an extra point.
A Tim conversion ball is dead, once the defense gets possession and honestly, you know, you started at 15 instead of the 25 because, you know, these are high school 15 16 17 year-old kids not even the college age kids, and we've seen College, you know, some of those Arkansas games back, you know.
Yeah.
Five six seven years ago in Kentucky, have a growing into 56 over times.
They 18 over something but also it makes a field goal, a lot more doable when you start at the 15 unless you got Even then you don't really worry about it.
How much better can you get than overtime in the first championship of five at the Georgia Dome until Jeff Van note to beat this?
All right, Charles, Ward and Jeff, and note standing by and waiting, they'll have the call of the Quad, a championship game.
As Chattahoochee takes on Stars new Gandalf, slope, Down to the 10 and pushing the pile, like a Rugby scrum down to the 9-yard line.
It goes So Buford picks up a whopping six yards on their first Carry of overtime.
And don't go away because coming up between games, it's GPB Sports Central commentary on the games that were played and to come plus your chance to make a pledge to the Georgia public broadcasting.
Winning tickets, the Falcons Hawks and Crashers games, all that coming up between the game.
Second down Ross, Bass bass coming up, I believe, Fricks grabbed his face mask, as Kirby was sacking him and completely unintentional less to back.
His Calhoun had really busted through and we're going to get the sack and shove Buford gosh that was going to be a third and about 12 and that point.
Yeah.
Fricks was just flying by and trying to grab ahold of something as he was whizzing by the quarterback.
And unfortunately, what he grabbed was the face mask to prevent that sometimes Take the fingers.
Personal foul grabbing and twisting the face mask by the defendant that penalty is had to distant second down.
This is gravity twisting, I mean, wouldn't Georgia championship wrestling?
So second down and four ball is at the 9.
So we're basically the sack is negated two tight ends both for the farside swole big role touchdown Dominique smoke rapper back on top, right to the strength of the formation.
Matt, the two tight end set to the far side and a touchdown run.
He's injured, right?
That's a less than hundred percent Swope.
Basically playing on a broken toe.
And I think he pinballed off about half of the Calhoun players and there's no better way to limit the Adam Griffith influence on this game the Calhoun kicker then to score a touchdown yourself patroni gives Buford a touchdown lead so now Calhoun knows they've got the score a touchdown or Buford wins.
Nine yard touchdown run for Dominique.
Swope 13th, touchdown run of the season for the senior.
31 to 24.
There's four, five, five different Calhoun, yellow.
Jackets made some sort of contact with Swope.
See why?
It's just a tough run Ralph's regions coaching staff like Swope so much They've been known to recruit Gwinnett County River.
Dee Jay Adams from the absolutely signed with Marilyn.
It's now time for Calhoun to go on offense.
Remember, turnover ends the game.
Darius Washington getting his first Carry of the contest comes in over time as he rumbles down to the 11 Dylan Lee, making the tackle for Buford Got a lot of confidence in the young man, when he gave his first Carry On the first snap of overtime, don't you?
And you can feature the running game a little bit more.
When, you know, you're not going to attempt a field goal on this possession.
Second down and six I mean, you can look at this as first and six.
Christian.
Down to about the eighth.
Third and three will be coming up.
The question are coming onto the field.
Number 90 276 pounds, even lime and trying to give some at least fresh beef, on the middle of that, Beeline for the Wolves, Christian approaching 90 yards rushing today.
No small feat against this.
Buford defense third down and three.
Christian again, got blockers.
Now has to turn back in there and trouble Freitag drops him at the 15-yard line.
And now, we come down to one, play had to lead blockers, Matt, you had to Lyman coming near side and Freitag gets right, watch this right underneath it.
Freitag blew up the play.
Beat his man.
Jacob King and now it's 4th and 10 from the 15th, Calhoun calls, timeout.
They've got to get 10 or Buford wins again and I'm telling you, if you defeat me today, it's because if I'm Calhoun, if you defeat me today, it's because you were able to cover, JT Palmer on 4th and 10.
That's where I'm going with the football.
Well, we harking back to our conversation with Jess Simpson and he said the thing that he was concerned about most outside of number one, stopping Kristen in the running game is the past to Palmer in the end zone because of his great leaping ability.
Plus his natural height Advantage at 63 a already starts out above you.
Yeah.
So let's see if they go to number three here, JT Palmer.
It's kind of been Specialty all season long, run that fade play jump ball in the end zone.
Much like a former Calhoun wide receivers done, for the Georgia Bulldogs, in his career, Chris Durham.
Fourth and ten could be the game and the state championship heavy Rush Curtis throws.
Buford back-to-back-to-back-to-back for straight state championships carve their name in the history books with West Rome.
And pushed it literally as far as you can.
A 10 point lead with ten minutes to go turns into an overtime.
Affair touchdown on the opening possession, Calhoun stopped on Downs as an answer ballgame over four, straight state titles and with the junior class coming back Mac and I go ahead and fast forward to next December with all these Juniors on the Buford roster, you got to imagine there.
Great position to make another run in 2011.
One for the thumb.
Like the old Pittsburgh Steelers.
You're right, the be the favorites to win.
A state record, fifth in a row next year.
3124 overtime, Victory as just Simpson now, 4 and 0 in state championship games.
As Buford knocks out Calhoun for a third straight year, down to the sidelines and GPB Sports Central's.
Guilt Arie And Chuck and also Mikimoto Jess, Simpson and Company making history here tonight.
A big win over Calhoun and the Buford wolves are really really engineer cells.
In history in the Georgia, High School Association still to come will have postgame analysts of this great ballgame.
And over time, you just saw here on GPB, we'll take a look at the quad.
A title game coming up tonight in The nightcap Stars Mill and Chattahoochee, a whole lot more here on GPB Sports.
Central, you stay tuned.
Day one of the state championship is in the books and what a ballgame you saw here on GPB 31 to 24 and over time their Buford wolves.
Now, make history in the Georgia High School Association, still to come the Trophy presentation to Jeff Simpson and his crew and a whole lot more in the Buford gang.
But first, we're going to preview the game coming up right on GPB, a little bit later on.
It's a quad, a title game between Stars Mill and Chattahoochee.
We have Dave preview?
I still think what awaited done that.
What have we done this?
And we're 40.
No, but I'm going to tell you something on.
You look at me.
Go down there to win or it's going to haunt you.
Now there are haunted because if you don't win what, everybody's going to say.
Great for Dana more the Chattahoochee cougars, get to week, 15 with a last-second win and what do they get for their win?
Practice indoors in the cafeteria after Sundown?
So head coach Terry Crowder doesn't get anyone sick, it's one last time to run through everything, you know, and one last time to go through everything you think you need to know for the last game of the year 48 minutes for a Idle and it's one last time for advice.
Give and get all the guys that I've worked for in the past my cleric.
Northwest Whitfield minions talked a little bit, we went through the state championship game.
Try to remember some of the things that we did wrong maybe during that game.
But mainly it's your support.
They just tell me who they're supporting this and hoping that we can win and it's another round of film study against a tough Stars Mill Squad.
