Live from the Macon Coliseum, it's the girls Double-A basketball state championship featuring early county and Grand ol clay at championship weekend rolls on from the Coliseum here in Macon.
I'm Jim Pinocchio.
The lady Bobcats in the Lady Red Devils.
Lady Bobcats looking for their first title.
The Lady Red Devils won State in 1996 and in 2000 should be a good one.
Dave Gardner and Teresa Edwards are courtside.
Hello.
Hey, Jim.
I tell you what, that single-A boys game is going to be a hard act to follow.
But nonetheless, we do turn our attention to a girls action.
And with me is five time Olympian, four time gold medalist Teresa Edwards.
We're glad to have Teresa with us for the remainder of girls action down here and make it three a big ballgame here in early County Randolph play.
As Jim mentioned, some state championships there.
But these are two teams that know a little something about each other.
Dave, This is a huge ball game where you got a22 split during the season, but Early County is proving to be the tournament play type of team and it's going to be very interesting to see who's going to get crowned queen on the court today.
And they're going to look at one that's very well could be Frank McCoy, definitely averaging 18 points for the season.
Plate had 13 points in the semifinal game.
13 last night did very well.
I expect that she'll do the same thing and very consistent for a Team McCoy hoping to be the real McCoy by games in here.
Is you going to look at the starting five for the Lady Bobcats again right crowd Ms.. McCoy Chatman and McDaniel.
And you'll notice three seniors in the lineup as well.
That could certainly play a big part here and make it today as we turn our attention.
Of course, you see the 21 Randolph play.
If you want a price, she's going to be key for them today.
She has to step her game up.
She's averaging 21 points a game, but she only scored six in the last game for a team.
But she's had great help around there.
You can look for that supporting cast to step up as well.
And then you look at the starting five for the Lady Red Devils again, TILMON Peak Price, Jones and Span.
And kind of in a comparison no seniors on flip side of that for the lady Red Devils there are four juniors and a sophomore so things could get interesting.
But as you said, this is a team that scraps they stay in some ballgames.
They're going to stay very scrappy, without a doubt.
Let's go and throw it down the floor for today's starting lineups of the Double-A Girls State championship.
Back then, a nice game.
We have the early county Bobcats dressed in blue as offensive, first on the scoreboard and the Randolph play Red Devils dressed in white as your home team.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the main event.
Let's get ready to rumble.
Oh, may I have your attention for the starting line up first for early county at forward number 12.
Miranda Right.
Ready for this?
At forward number 25.
Gordon Up Crowd is at center number 44.
Erika McCoy at guard number 14.
Courtney Chapman at guard number 24 to Brita Match.
Daniel and your early county head coach Mary Brown.
And now for your round of play, Red Devil at forward number four, Sharon Gilmore.
Sorry for this at forward number 32, Albany, please.
At center number 41, be washed up thrice at guard.
Number 22, Daniel Jones at guard number five, Tier one, All spam and your of play head coach James Bland referee anyone one may try So there you have it Two teams out of region one going at it for the state championship tipoff coming up from Macon next broadcast of USA Basketball on TV.
TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners, You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
We are set and ready to go.
State Championship Girls Action!
Dave Grant along with Teresa Edwards.
We have a third member of our broadcast crew today.
It's been throw it on down courtside, David Zaleski.
All right.
Well, as you know, these two teams play quite often.
Randolph Klay winning the first two, early county winning the second two.
I talked to principal Bird of Randolph Blake.
He said, in all fairness, it's their turn to win.
But you want to go with something else.
Good experience.
Early County has a ton of seniors on their team, but their coach, Mary Brown, says when it comes to playoff experience, the sophomores and juniors of Randolph Play actually have a little more.
Now I'm looking forward to this title game Tiebreaker.
Back to you, too.
All right, David.
And as you said, Theresa, that was one thing that that you alluded to coming into this broadcast was the senior leadership that early county possesses.
And that could be the difference in the ball game.
They may play with a lot of chemistry, which I like because it can help you in a playoff time.
Like this championship game.
You want a prize?
Who wins the tip for the lady?
Red Devils ran off play with the basketball first looking inside to prize who plays big underneath Let's take it away by Crowder on the other end and earlier Kelly has talked with Coach Brown She said they would jump out at 2 to 3 they went to aggressive two three came up with the quick steal winner Lancaster and Jenkins.
This was today in the state girls championship.
For those of you just joining us so what a single a boys contest southwest Atlanta Christian and Whitfield academy going at it a good feel here one in that one still too strong though The pass goes out of bounds.
Looking at Randolph play, they're starting into a matchup zone that they played the same type of defense in the semifinal game and it worked very well for them.
A lot of low scoring games this weekend in Atlanta and Macon.
As you get a look at Coach James playing 23 years at Randolph Play, I'll tell you what, he had his work cut out for him last game.
That was that was a tight I'll tell you, they played really hard and he was into it the entire game.
The low scoring games were very exciting game is close games, which both teams eventually play.
Close games get in here.
So it should be very interesting football work right now by Randolph Play.
They'll swing it back outside Danielle Jones on the drive dishes that span of five has it taken away by Crowder great skills anticipated that very well Jordan a coast to coast couldn't get the shot to go with a follows they're up and in get put back Miranda right number 12 got a big game she's the hero and that's a first round letter to overaggressive a lot of tension You got to believe that adrenaline is pumping right now for everybody.
Both teams are going to try to steal the momentum player down as we get to look at the replay here.
And it looks like she just got her legs tangled up there with Crowder.
She wasn't quite set for that challenge.
Tried to go by her.
Yeah.
And quarter and that's all during peak number 32 peak averaging over 17 points on the season A junior she's up on her feet but honestly a little shaken up She's really huge for a team.
So they need to take this off and keep rolling because it's big on the boards as well.
Coach Mary Brown in her seventh season at Early County.
This is these are two teams, as we said in the open.
It's a know each other very well.
This is the fifth meeting between these two.
They split two and incidentally, their only losses this year were to each other.
So it kind of makes for an interesting state championship here.
This is the one that counts, I guess.
You know, me being from Cairo, Jordan, I got to love the south wind up here in over a little bit as Jones lit it back up.
Tom Spann over in the corner, Tillman with it to get him off play very patient here in the opening minutes.
We're being very patient early count you did a good job of packing it in, but they're getting out to the shooters.
They do not want them to have a look at that Randolph play guards can't know that shot.
Bryce trying to make a move inside.
They're going to draw the foul and that's what's going to make the difference against this zone.
You're going to have to penetrate it.
You're going to have to try to draw the defensive pass and then try to pressure it, draw the defense and force the shots.
Excited to give up on the patient and take it to the hole, which is smart basketball, because she drew a foul and they're going to get McCoy for that first one on the body there on the knee.
So in off play inbounds from underneath her own goal here and you played 2 minutes in this first quarter just to nothing the red devils once again patient trying to work an inside price span looking inside their pick.
She's going to draw the foul there it goes to penetration She's getting a little too close before she lets that pass go.
But that's what they have to do to penetrate the gaps and find the open player and they're going to go for those high percentage shots just like that.
They're looking at the blocks every time they put the ball on the floor, found it.
To be on practice within a crowd is averaging right around seven points ball game and that people go off the mark there by piece.
Good that's uncharacteristic of her especially coming into the game averaging 17 points a game this season.
I think she's really hurt from being hit up front here.
They're going to look at her numbers and obviously 11 rebounds and one assist, three steals.
You can I mean that's all around.
It's a good numbers, a solid, solid, probably a little some jitters, as you would expect in a state championship game right off the bat, but shows a character right there, comes back, misses that first boy off and drills the second one.
Jackson extended their defender and the play off.
That's talking a lot of drama.
They forced the turnover and they'll get the ball down Folsom.
I think we are rattling the jitters right now.
I think they want the tempo to kick up.
Both teams like to run open court fast breaks.
It typically, you say both teams like to feel each other out, but playing five times as they have now going into today, they probably know a little something about it, so they know each other very well.
Take it back outside span from outside.
Hicks three point shot for a lot of spin.
Nice.
Three point shot.
That's exactly what Coach Matt was just concerned about, giving up those outside jumpers, even though she's talking in that zone where the Red Devils are up for too little backcourt pressure there.
Lady Bobcats able to break at that time trying to feed that inside Nice Harrison there.
Sabrina McDaniel found that yeah McDaniel of course a senior averaging 11 as well so had a big season This is her last time around she's got to make this a good the great field it's Miranda right taking it coast to coast and it's blocked her a little fly partially from behind but a red devils on the other end we'll pull up Daniel Jones at midcourt now span will bring it across and looks down that back slip out of her hand there but there's a good position still in that span again looking inside once again, Bryce puts it up top shot rims in and out of there find underneath.
He had it momentarily lost it though to McDaniel.
Dang it puts this underneath Kristen Williams is there what they like to do they're looking for quick opportunities to lay it up.
They got really good guards there, looking to make great passes.
Go play.
I'm going to call a 32nd timeout is what it will look at it.
Great court awareness, looking up the court finding angles easily.
That's the type of basketball they like to play early.
Patty Williams, another one of those seniors running the floor there, and we talk a lot about the seniors and of course the starters there, but the players are really stepping up as we listen in on the huddle here.
Randolph, the line up, they've got to pick up the kids and get them on the ball on the inside and that the game started.
What do you want to get into the game for a team, we can't afford to have another six point game.
Once you didn't finish speaking of Miranda, right.
Of course, a player that's Pi day in the Semi's didn't think would shoot the ball that much through Lee County.
She's only averaging three and a half points, so why wouldn't you take that chance?
But she had a season high 14 the other night.
She's coming off a big game.
She has stepped it up very, very surprising to federal foster care.
A lot of folks felt that it might be in Atlanta final with Pi Day and Holy Innocents is the South baby.
These teams have really stepped up turnover.
They're very impressed with early county.
They're extending their defense, playing very well.
They're very active.
They're causing some problems for Randolph play right now and a half court Randolph is really trying to be patient but they're not getting the shots.
They want to get as easy as they can get them.
Chandler Brooks in the ball game for Randolph play at number 20 there takes a seat 345 to go in the opening quarter Oh that one in deep there a little bit save but take it away and it looks like big foot was on the line there So the ball will stay with the lady cats.
That was a great hustle about Sabrina trying to save that ball, but it breaks for them.
That's for up play.
Step out of bounds early inbounds over in the corner of the half Chatman with a look at inside the boy trying to get position knocked away Great block big girl game in there baby.
Oh he's been not expecting that one.
Get out So the ball will stay with the lady Devils there.
Get us along McDaniel nearly got the turnover there and you see Coach Bland point to his brain there a little bit trying to get his girls in the ball game here two point leader county up six point early on here 320 to play looking inside their price to two though that's what they want they've got to come up with the pass and convert those easy basket.
Once they do, they're going to let the game plan is set.
Obviously, you know, they're penetrating the ball, McGee getting the numbers.
Just got to catch the ball.
Convert backboard pressure now by the Lady Devils and if you look at the turnover so far enough play with six already make it seven.
The ball goes out of bounds there too Tough for Rhonda Tilmon.
If they don't, they've got to clean that up there because it's a six point game at the moment.
It is not effective.
But in the long run, if they don't clean it up, it will be a huge back and play that led to that two point difference.
And Daniels brings it across.
Midcourt 3 minutes left as Chatman with it up top for early county two point lead for the lady cats from Blakely, Georgia and into the corner now and another turnover on the other end.
It's obvious when both teams are trying to establish dominance and right now in the game you see the athletic devils just one of two field goals in this first half early getting both teams, I guess 50%, but not a lot of shooting going on.
I think that's that's James Hansen.
Come on, ladies, let's play ball.
We'll work that out a little bit.
Oh, that time Brooks lost the handle on it.
Chatman pushing and from outside Chatman for three.
A little strong on that one brought down by Daniel Jones.
It wasn't a bad shot to say everybody was bad.
Brooks with it all.
Ritchie Jones and Jones puts up a tough shot in the lane and it's good.
Nice running.
Jones Averaging right around five points a ballgame and hits a big bucket there.
It's all night it up at six apiece.
McDaniel back on the other end with it back up top to Chatman Courtney Chatman averaging nine points a ball game this season.
She's a senior trying to look inside.
Looks like we're going to get a reach on peak play.
Both teams are being very patient.
I thought maybe we'd have a much faster path out.
Randolph Blake would definitely do as much attacking as they would play.
Defense extended their full court and they're not coming up with the steals that they need.
They need early counties break in the first place.
Toronto Tilmon back in the lineup for Randolph play as Burks takes the feet and a stop that side as they're three point shot so McDaniel nice out of bounds play I saw that play out in before nice shot at the time and they'll get five points for Sabrina McDaniel the senior whistle now in the lane on the other end going to be on down as we're going to look at that three point shot again, she came in right out of bounds set of three.
She knew it was coming directly to her.
She was ready for that as a nice shot.
Lady Devils on the other end aren't able to get that shot to go on a whistle.
Going to be calm Looks like an offensive foul perhaps on Randolph play coach Mary Brown looking on with 128 to play here in the opening quarter fly from the Macon cineplex they have Garner Grace Edwards with you here.
David Belsky with us as well 963. lead for early county the lady cats taking on Randolph play from Foster for Georgia Chatman trying to look inside and that would knocked away there tell you what early Johnny is impressive they get getting over the top of that press which is a1211 press and I don't know why of Randolph play one just back it up and pack it in and make it harder for them in the half court because they're breaking it quite easy when Asia PINKINS number 31 into the lineup sophomore for Randolph play shot from the corner Hi Archer follow won't go with a foul will as Erika McCoy draws it inside she stepped right in front of it didn't get checked off for the box out and step right in Larry Bell not only looking to get price on that one as we take a look at it.
Good position inside.
Yeah she's going to be there all game you got to put a body on so McCall will go to the line.
The senior averaging a little over 18 points this season.
Nine rebounds.
As we said, she's put in some good work and a player substitution for Randolph play.
They've really been doing a lot of swapping here in the early going.
Audrey Peake checking back in coach once he's trying to find the chemistry, he's going to do what he's got to do to find that right combination, the right combination before he hits a pair of free throws.
So 11 six the score now early, extending that lead here with under a minute to go in the first trying to film a cross-court That's Jones back up top Patrick Curry counties moving with the hands out and you get really tense light on your feet if you want a price non lined up right now a big underneath here by big and the shot from outside too strong and taken away by That's Shamet up and running takes it to self lays it up draws the foul good hard foul underneath Craig Strong take She knew she was going to get fouled she tried to fake here on that pass Randolph Blazers wouldn't go for it Another look is going to put the ball in her face She knew no one was going to bounce controls who posted foul on Brooks her first as you got to look at Shannon Apple on and off the back of right there on the first one and now the where the cats will go on the bench here, they'll foul on the other end with Lisa George, the sophomore.
They're going to look at champions numbers good all the way around.
This is something that really jumps out team leader and assist really knows how to dish that basketball does a good job of that.
She's the fourth in a row.
She's going to make it happen for them.
She's going to stay in control all.
Then she's going to work very hard.
Both ends of the floor.
Thoughts with the ball up top sets up.
Stop for Randolph, play a play for the last shot here with 10 seconds left in the quarter.
Tilmon with it 3 seconds looking inside.
Take it away.
And that's going to do it for quarter number one.
But it's early county, the Lady Cats region champs, that one down here trying to win a state championship.
We'll be right back with quarter number two from the Macon Cineplex.
Stay with us.
Broadcast of USA Basketball on TV.

You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
Early county with a five point lead after one.
Let's throw it back down to David Zaleski.
Well, Coach Boyan is working on a way to beat this Bobcat defense.
Basically, they need to rotate it quite a bit more because it's been pretty stingy so far.
But let's see how that plan works this time around.
So without a doubt, you know, taking a look at Early County, this is a team that has really kind of breezed through the playoffs with the exception of that round three game against Turner County, went to overtime, 41 to 39.
But Erica McClure with 20 points in that ballgame and of course, Wright stepping up with the season high in the semis, 18 straight victories for early county coming into this game.
They're on a roll.
They're on a roll.
And there's no need to start today.
They need to cap this thing off so they can make it happen.
And I think they've got the game plan off.
So the cats advancing to the semis last year against GSC, the four falling out.
Of course, GSC would eventually go on to win the state championship while Randolph play lots of tradition state titles in 96 and 2000.
Looking at another one today.
Shot from outside a little off the mark by McDaniel early and now Randolph playing with the basketball Randolph right here allowing early going taking really good look at the basket That's a long time you have to look at that you got to close out on the Sooners a little sooner.
I think they'll begin to drop those shots and the shot from outside.
Daniel Jones hits a big three point shot right there to get the Lady Devils back in it.
He's a sophomore guard, has averaged four points and he hits a big three in championship game.
But he's already got her average.
He's got five points this afternoon and just a two point game right now.
Good time basketball games all weekend long.
As we mentioned, ten championship games right here on TV.
And of course, this is the girls championship and the turnaround of the lane won't fly.
Go for him, boy.
And a jump ball going to be caught underneath.
Good hustle there as you get a look at already peak on the floor.
The court tried to put up a tough little touch shot and wasn't quite strong enough to get it up there.
But get inside that pace.
She's got to go up with some strength because Keith is going to be there all day.
She's a big rebound off the window play, looking for that first quarter.
Is it kind of what you expected?
I noticed you were making some notes over there.
You've seen these teams the last couple days.
You spent some time in Macon, to say the least.
Yes, I have.
I think Randolph play came out at a timeout and the timeout once again got the steal there, couldn't get the shot to go, but they keep it alive.
That's peak in the lane.
Double team throws up the shot and will draw the foul and he'll go to the line and it's obvious argues that timeout was huge for them because first of all they've got to clean up the turnovers and they've come out much more intentionally.
Analysis and defensive end of the floor and they're getting second chance opportunities early County has to recognize that can't give up second chance opportunities down here.
When you look at these numbers you know exactly such a change from that first quarter.
It was such a slowed down pace, but things have certainly picked up here.
Both teams kind of go into that press a little bit.
Now you can feel that they relax and they're ready to play some basketball.
It's still need to hit this free throws, though.
Both teams have been burning up the boards as he comes up empty on that trip.
So the score remains the same.
11 nine really back on the other end, taken away by price by SAP the last couple minutes of that first quarter.
But he's back in the lineup for the Lady Devils Stand over to Jones now back up top and inside right turn around puts it up to strong heat on the follow up and in here goes deep.
That's what she does.
She's going to be on the board.
She's gone from solid and great.
Body says she's going position herself to get offensive rebounds eight with 11 points in the semifinal win over Holy Innocents red off play trail by ten points in that ballgame Came back and won it now and knocked away another turnover in favor of the Lady Devils Lady Devils you stuff.
That's an intensity on the defensive end of the phone calls and turnovers again gaining momentum to sit down.
He has to settle down and get back until Spellman looking inside on that one, take it away.
A little miscommunication there between her and Brice.
Hey.
Wow.
McDaniel on the other end running the floor, pulls back out here arguing about it.
I'm saying you got to get down the court.
So basketball being played down here is Erica McCoy gets one to go doing what she does best left and the block on the right side.
She's going to play that look like very well.
She's racing down to that spot, 1311 early count with the lead but brand off play can tie or take the lead on this possession.
TILMON with it over to Jones in the corner now back and I really want to get it in there the price they do that time underneath too strong.
The bucket went go JONES out of the way that keeps it alive.
Stand up for three too strong and finally taken out of there by Sabrina McDaniel.
Randolph Blake just missing an easy opportunity on inside there.
Good the game plan says penetrate well the game on the other side getting high percentage opportunities just not converting them McDaniel being guarded by Jones McDaniel the runner in the lane and all blind go you got McCoy though all the follow through she's there and her presence underneath now is being felt a little bit comes with the job guys every time down she's cleaning up cleaning up over the cats extend the lead back to four That's Jones back up top span looking inside to turn around all go but flies with good position They're in an easy baskets look to want a price.
Both teams are working the boards on the offensive end of the floor.
It appears right now somebody who's got to put a body on somebody clean this up.
That's Bryce's first bucket of the afternoon and back to the two point game.
Salmon with it, trying to get rid of it does so to McDaniel up top scored defense early Kenny can't kill the dribble the guards got to keep the dribble alive and a little open jumper there too strong and off the line by Williams Allen underneath so and the boy is drawing that foul again creating opportunities at the free throw line Now I tell you what she came to play she came for a championship.
She's carrying the load right now.
She is all over the boards.
The only one that New jersey in the paint with everything in her.
She's by a great game.
We're going to get peak for the foul.
It's going to be her second and the team's fifth five team fouls officials and a point guard on the first down seven of the player substitutions Now George back in four the gaps in but he's for Pinkins back in Randolph play go look at McCoy's numbers five points three boards here in the early going Oh my gosh Feels like she's already had ten rebounds back up.
Hard to believe this is on the second one there.
But White keeps it alive.
McDaniel up top off the front of the iron and it remains a three point ballgame, 1613 with 310 left in the half early count he's having a little problem now is hitting a little soft jumpers outside they've got to start no is open jumpers outside that span.
Who hits the three point shots he'll want to spend with another three and makes he's hit too.
I think that's enough to get out on and now someone needs to get back in that zone in a little too low and we're all knotted up at 16 apiece.
Another barnburner on the way here.
And Macon, this double play Girls championship still only in the first half, but just games like any of the others we've seen, it's going to come down to the wire.
Oh, it's going to be won all the way to the end.
I'm sure that's George.
It's just a little too close to make that pass.
Too many people in the paint, too many people get around the and then once you get in the middle of the paint with the ball, you got to let that shot.
Yeah, put it up.
JONES on the other end span now they do get a body honors you mentioned now they're closing out on that traveling run and it's going to be called on take think it will go the other way and you look at three things earlier in the offense Courtney Chatman would look at her and stay in the paint and you know Gauger and and I understand because if you look at a player that normally adds a lot of points.
And now I think she's proven she can hit it.
They've got early count.
He's got to close out on the shooters.
32nd timeout call by early counter.
You know, neither one of these two teams put up a lot of points when you look at what they've done throughout the year.
But these are two defensive minded teams that play defense.
They really get after you.
So we're not expecting them to to blaze the scoreboard there.
But nonetheless, they do play some defense.
You're absolutely right.
And you're going to see a lot of easy baskets, though.
Both teams like to create turnovers in the open court and they love looking at the layup, having it.
Well, we hope you're enjoying this broadcast of a GHC class double state championship and you can show your appreciation and support by becoming a member of GP2.

How do you like those red and white stockings?
Do?
I don't think I've got to be mad at my coach with us.
I just tell you what the styles have changed so much throughout the years.
I guess.
I know that's a cool thing.
Yeah, of course.
Of course.
This pulled up fox like that.
It's kind of an old school style anyway, so I guess they're going back to it a little bit.
Shot from outside, off the rim and off the monitor and Randolph play with the basketball now five ball game here with just under 2 minutes to play here in the first half A low scoring game as we mentioned but good good game nonetheless.
Very good game.
The way a championship game should be played that keep bringing the ball down really shifted that ball in one of two point guard has always been make the decision make a pass like that which caused that turnover Gordon Chapman dribbling trying to work at baseline but the door closed it I he's looking inside the basket and the foul very good basketball didn't look important I don't even know how she saw that Miranda ride with the bucket the chance for a three point play.
And how big is Miranda right Ben in the last couple games big.
Very big.
Surprisingly.
Did ride JR gets a tiny shooter's roll there.
She's got five points knocked away there.
Right?
As we mentioned, 14 a season high against media.
As you get a look once again at coach Mary Brown, impressive record in the seven seasons Natalie County back on the other end and a shot is there Daniella Jones just goes through that presence that I got this game seven points today for Danielle Jones the sophomore big bucket there for Randolph play back within one salmon McDaniel Brutus and two tall for Jordanna Crouse Well she was standing there wide open.
She tried not to alert the defense.
If you look at Coach Bland trying to rally his Lady Devils back in this thing, they're right there.
One point chance to take the lead on this trip.
Randolph play with such a great tradition of basketball in both the girls and boys sides and other boys always right there as well.
And has certainly built up quite a tradition down there in Suffolk.
Yes, they have.
They have a championship tradition and going to get it with the body there, it looks like blocking foul are going to be called on the lady cats.
McCoy she tried to get there instead establish really just jumped in there and got there a little too late comes the body right up right up until she can give her Steph enough time to get a free set.
George checks back in for the lady cats play the devils inbound underneath her own goal here.
32 seconds left in the half and a quick first half here.
That clock is roll the shot put up and hit by Aldridge.
He pace.
What a shot.
Some good hearts on that one.
Nice shot to hit some big shots, Anderson.
He's 20 seconds left.
Oh in off play with a bell momentarily lead there Back on the other end 2120.
Courtney Chapman said forget about the last shot.
I want this shot.
That's what happened on that one, starting with her first field goal and now WHISTLE on the floor and another player substitution.
Candace James checking in for the first time the sophomore for early county and it looks like looks like number 23.
Sophia Davis checking in for the first time for Randolph Clay Davis, a junior in front of once again, a nice, nice basket there, a saw.
He went back on the other end, a couple of seconds left in span, put it up.
And that is going to do it for the first half.
A rather quick one.
21 to 20, the early county away, two cats lead their region one day counterpart Randolph play Lady Red Devils 2120 again by one point and a big first half indeed for both teams.
Some jitters nonetheless, but it seems like both teams have settled down a little.
I'm looking forward to a good second half.
I think it will be a great second half.
Early County came out the first quarter, Randolph play came back the second quarter, did their thing.
I'll tell you what, let's go ahead, throw it down to David's rescue, standing by with coach Mary Brown.
All right.
Well, this has gone back and forth.
Tell me your strategy so far and how are you going to break away and get a lead?
We've got to continue that that title defense that we're playing on them and make sure we don't give them that back slap shot on the 23.
We've got to do a better job of getting over there.
On the help side, we're not attacking the basket very well.
On offense.
Chapman just did it just then.
We got to continue to do that and I'm, you know, hit that backside pass and they're really leaving the backside wide open and we got to do a better job of getting that law pass to our post player on the backside.
Well, the presses look good so far.
What's your strategy been there?
And, you know, we haven't run our press very well today.
Look at them.
You know, we ran a couple of times and got beat on this.
So I don't know if I will run a whole lot in the next mix out.
But, you know, just that full halfcourt pressure that we're doing.
All right.
Well, thanks a lot, Coach.
Back to you, too.
All right.
There you have it again.
Courtney Chapman, indeed attacking the bucket.
That's the difference here in the first half as early county leads a 2120 of halftime.
We'll be right back.
Stay with us.
Broadcast of USA Basketball on TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
And welcome back to the Macon Coliseum.
It's halftime of the Double-A Girls State championship, early county with the lead 21 to 20 her.
Erica McCoy has seven points for early county Danielle Jones with seven points for Randolph Clay.
Let's go downstairs now to David tells Sky David.
All right well these two principals know what it's like to win.
We're here with Randolph Clay's principal Byrd and Early County Principal Hall.
Now, tell me, what is it like for these girls?
Well, first of all, we're just delighted to be here and have opted to be playing for a state championship and want to thank God in playing for our state champions to win in the state championship.
So it's my hope that we can win the state championship.
So how long have they been in town here?
Yeah, the girls came Thursday morning and they say through until today.
Okay, well, let's go over to Principal Hall of Earley County.
This is such a treat.
Y'all YouTube are rivals.
You play all the time, but it's friendly rivals, right?
That's correct.
We're only about 20 miles away and we are playing our sports and they've been our region for several years.
And it's always been a big rivalry because of the close distance between the two schools.
Well, how's the spirit of the school band leading up to this game?
Well, you know, this is our first trip to the finals in girls basketball in the history of the school.
And the whole community in this school is all excited about an opportunity to play.
And we're excited about playing Randolph play.
One of the bigger rivals.
Well, true.
That's great.
We've already played four times this year.
They beat us twice, we beat them twice.
So I guess this is a good time to decide who's the best team.
Okay, Well, Principal Byrd, one more time.
Randolph Play has made it here many times.
What do you want to see here?
A victory, I'm sure.
Well, the last couple of years, we've finished in the Final Four and hope the third time is a charm.
So we've got to be a little more aggressive.
Second half whole.
Okay, Well, thanks a lot.
These are two great principals with two great schools.
Back to you, Jim.
Hi, David.
Great job with the principals.
Half time once again here and the girls championship and early county leading it, 21 to 20 week old courtside to Dave Gardner and Teresa Edwards.
All right, Thanks, Jim.
Again, a big, big first half there.
Lots of highlights, not a lot of scoring going on 2120, but nonetheless, a good game, a good defensive battle as we take a look at some of the first half highlights.
It's a very good game.
We've got fast break.
Opportunities happen.
It's been number five four in a play hit two key, three point shots early and back on the other end early counter-attacking and nice pass inside to McDaniel for the bucket doing a great job running the floor getting layups.
She's also hitting some three point shots.
She's coming in off the inbounds plays and knocking down some nice jumpers.
And there's another one here from the corner, a three point shot there to give the lady gasoline again.
MCDANIEL You say one.
Randolph play, though, would answer underneath.
It's trying to get possession.
There's price right there If you want a price offensive board put that out there.
That was big for them in the first half.
Watch a shot by Jones Nice little nice little answer there.
Just pulled up hits an open jumper and there you go.
Look at the first half stats again the score fuels eight of 19 for both teams.
So really we're even a 42% of rebounds are pretty much of the same area free throws and neither team really tearing it up haven't had a lot of opportunities.
But the big one right there is the turnovers.
12 turnovers for Randolph play in that first half.
Nice early county.
Both teams going to have to work in that category.
They have to not have to think.
And I think the three point field goal percentage is definitely help Randle plays with those turnovers so far.
So if early on he could convert some of those three point field goals could be a big difference as well.
But I'll tell you that turnover record or the turnover stat is going to be really huge right now.
Clay needs to come out the second half and clean that up and it could make a huge difference in the score.
Erica McCoy with seven points for Lake County.
Daniel Jones with seven points for Randolph Clay will take time and be right back with second half action right after this broadcast of USA Basketball on TV.
TV is made possible in part by the following corporate partners.
You're watching TV bringing you the best.
You're watching the USA Basketball State Championships on TV.
And there you can look at the story here as we get set for third quarter action.
Again, early county, 21 to 20 against Randolph play.
The Lady Devils haven't returned to the floor yet.
Here they come as we get set the second half action actually get they have Griner along with Teresa Edwards right here in Macon at the make it Center Flex, who has done an excellent job, and once again hosting this year's state championship action again last night, of course, quarter and five in Atlanta, Georgia Tech, and of course, the remaining six state championships playing out today here at the old home, if you will, the make it center flex right here.
Let's see if early County comes out and do exactly what Coach Brown's talking about.
She's exactly right.
They got to keep the D tightening.
They've got to get their hands up.
And in the passing lane in the zone and make it really hard for Randall Clay to get those passes down to the block.
Go ahead, throw it down on the floor real quick.
David Zaleski standing by.
They what's going on?
All right, Coach, Glad to know you're in a hurry.
What are you going to do here?
Well, we had to regroup.
Ball better, but she failed then.
I don't.
I think she got a hit final.
But I'm not sure what time we're going to check on.
You got to regroup it.
Okay.
You heard it.
They got to regroup back due to a little bit of a hurry.
There.
You concentrate.
Come on.
He's watching the game over his shoulder there.
Then I got to go.
Coach.
Bottom line, a little, little late arriving there on the floor there.
And they want to take all that time locker room, talk things over here and Randolph play and deal with the basketball.
Of course, as we talk at halftime there.
Of course, David talking to the principals.
And when you look at what Randolph Clay has done, we talked about the tradition that shot a little short there, guys trying to keep it alive.
Take it away, though.
But again, the tradition, they've been in this city finals last three or four years in a row.
I mean, that's just that's building a tradition right there, a powerhouse program.
It definitely is.
They know what it is to be a championship team.
They've got to uphold and honor city school.
So I think that we can do it.
I'm sure that the bill Giordano crowd is the first bucket of the day.
Great fullbacks.
You got to grab the big board there.
The three point lead for Albert Doughty, Daniel Jones span out to Tilmon.
Look at inside.
Brice is probably going to be caught inside on you on the price and plan really needs to step up in the second half.
She's the leading scorer averaging well over 20 points a game this year, but only two points in that first half.
As you mentioned, she's got a scare.
She struggled in the series as well.
And she really has to step up.
You know, it's the Randolph players take a lead in this game and establish some dominance over inches in the paint and try to get a little closer to the basket, was unaware where the defense was and that's why she picked up the work that she's got to gather herself on both ends of the floor here.
So I'm going to be on Felicia, is there.
It's going to be her first foul and the team's first two in the second half.
ALLEN Nearly throw it away.
McDaniel with it up top and Courtney saw a pass in the length that McDaniels didn't see Shannon with the ball gives off to McDaniel five points for McDaniel that first half little off the mark there.
Brown is battling with Tilmon there.
It's a good battle.
She went out the first half and dropping a little.
She's back into the game.
That's going to be a big help for the weekend pass.
Too strong inside Jones looking to get that thing inside, but forced it a little bit.
Not being patient.
It's got to slow down and get patient on the offensive end of the court for us.
Early County breezed through, as we mentioned through the first two rounds.
The victory over Brantley County of in Callaway had a tough time though it gets turning Turner County a 4139 overtime game so a lot of fight a lot of boys there McCoy with 20 points in that one propelled early county into the semis and a turnover there Prince comes up with it for Randolph play while the lady devils with a first round win over Pierce County the deep five tell you that the closer he gets Macon County just a four point win there and then a six point win the other night against Orleans.
And that shot is three point shot for Sharonda Tillman.
Still to see.
And she's she's got a heated up this second half, all knotted up at 23 apiece, 520 to play in the third quarter.
I watch Tillman play the semifinal game.
And I'll tell you, she carried the team.
She was she stepped up for play.
She was all over the court.
You know, it seems like that that's kind of a theme sometimes at the state championship games is not necessarily the superstar stepping up, but some of the other unsung heroes, some of the other players off the bench seem to make a big difference to the Reminds me, I tell you, when I was in high school.
Exactly.
I think that kind of flows in the state championship game a little.
You're absolutely right.
Everyone has to come to play championship in our style.
There look like maybe with the body, though, it looks like Jenkins may have got the ball there, but you're going to follow this one and I'll put Shannon at the line.
Sabonis is still applying the pressure in attack and on the offensive end which another statement Chris Brown made going into the halftime attacks are going to be the third foul line finisher.
Pinkins and Jacobs will sit with those fouls as number 23.
Sophia Davis checks back in and look at Chatman and Simon, one of two on that trip pass three points 2423 early by one 454 to go in the third quarter.
They have gone along with Teresa Edwards bringing you all the action from the may consider plex live on TV double a girls state championship span from the outside too strong there Brown has had the position momentarily and it is going to go back to early I think Danielle with an extra effort on her knocked that out of her hands definitely early twenties ball gain as you mentioned up top no seniors on this Randolph play team so this is a team that's going to be around a while.
You're going to see the same faces probably next year at the same time.
You're absolutely right.
Much more confident, I'm sure, shot from the corner, too strong and to want to stand with it.
Pushing the floor numbers her.
She'll pull up.
Smart move there.
This is off gives to Tillman.
Now back up top five.
Work it back inside Bryce really want that ball underneath They're being patient in their offense Well early county does not have their hands up in the passing lanes was kind of easy to pass that ball around right now by spine for trying to keep it alive off at three point miss but the ball will go back to the lady cats excellent fortunate as a good opportunity for early county because they're not really putting good bodies in bucks and out as well as they should.
At the same time, their hands are down on defense and they're moving, but they're not they don't they're not taking away the passing lanes.
Most teams like Boy Defense and that one thrown away.
They're going to say that Travis foot was on the line.
So the ball will go back over to Randolph play and force turnovers.
Those are the ones that the turnovers a coach would like to see where no defense is hitting the ball and they're going to look at the turnover picture.
As we mentioned, it was kind of rough in the first half and got a whole lot better here.
Randolph played with 15 early 11, three and a half to play in the third span from outside hits the three point shot, that's her third three of the ballgame.
They're letting their have it.
I'm I don't understand.
It's just going to be one of those games the junior guys shots too much time span of two big shot getting their coach going so much better about where his team's playing right now in the third quarter as they come out of the locker room and they're getting it done so they can continue to clean up those turnovers, convert shots like that, It's going to be in their favor in the in I'm sure all the state basketball championships can be seen live on the GPB website at WW DeVry dot GPB dot org.
All games will also be archived and available at a later date.
And while you're there, show your support by signing up to become a member of Georgia Public Television.
That's W WW dot gpb dot org.
Again member support of television a lot of good shows you know I've moved it to the of Mt.
Airy a little bit so I'm into that bluegrass I know I've seen some good I've seen some good shows on there a lot of good stuff on there in addition, all these high school sports.
I'm still with R&B divas.
I'm with you now.
I've got some old school rap left in McDaniels for Early County.
Had it knocked away, the Randolph quake came out the time out with an intensity.
And if they're playing, they're moving there.
They got the hands out.
You're talking to communicate That's the experience of a championship team to champion with the basketball.
They're being guarded by players who stepped out there momentarily and it's 3 minutes to play here.
In the third quarter, Randolph played with a two point lead.
Tough shot in the lane.
They're too strong behind with Daniel Chapman there, though, takes it back up and knocked away loose on the floor.
Had a jump off ball and that's what you want to see like to see folks hustling getting after it.
But you don't like to see Courtney going in there all out of control.
You just got to keep your head up.
And if she's going to attack, attack, if you do not work the ball around and get a good shot so early will inbound underneath her own goal there.
They'll keep the possession.
But Daniel up top with it.
Randolph played has a really nice zone up zone defense that allows them to match up in every area that they possibly can.
And with the players, that's more of a131 match up by work that ball in the crowd as he was open underneath.
Now back outside with the baseline won't go early found is not recognizing as coach Brown said that backside of that zone is wide open so on the film and look in there had to take it away McDaniel on the other end one on one against Ben Oh taken away by to want to stand for dance.
The day was going with a lot of speed.
I thought she had that low control at the last second to wanted this open on the other end for the bucket four points for Bryce and that gets the lady double fans on her feet.
28/24 four point lead for Randolph play and maybe that bucket to help Bryce continue on Put in a few more for a team because he's lacking in today's little step knocked away and I believe they're going to get Bryce for the foul They're the interesting to see how many fouls he actually has.
You look at this last bucket coming right in your living room right here, price wide open underneath McDaniels left everyone so fast, surprised, never had a chance to take off, leaving her down the court for an open layup to get Sandra Brooks into the lineup right now and a span takes a breather.
Got to hand it to those camera guys down there underneath eastern High Crew.
Man, they do a great job of hanging in there.
And I tell you what, they've got two bodies all afternoon.
Hats off to.
Oh, man, I don't think I want that job.
He didn't even sit on that baseline.
Could be dangerous territory.
So really, count it out.
122 left in this third quarter, trailing by four up top shot, three point land off the mark by Chapman, taken down by Tillman early.
Kenny has to get back to attacking the basket.
They have to penetrate the gaps seated to find out the woman to bed Got it not settle for those open sighs because you're not falling for turnover.
Taken away right away.
Any chance Two teams out of reach in one double life.
Fifth meeting of the year between these two shot won't go in the lane taken down by Bryce both teams with just three losses on the season and those two losses coming against each other.
This is the decisive fifth game, if you will, and this is for all the marbles right here.
And neither team is going to quit.
This is going to go down to the wire.
You can believe that they will fight tooth and nail.
Danielle Jones with the ball, gets rid of it over to Brooks and Brooks drives Lane Oh nice pass inside and the foul that will want to play three she it straight at last second through the defense just settle for a nice lay that twice converting the shot that was great great read under on nice and a foul going to be called it looks like on Miranda right fade strong finish he definitely got it alone converted that was good match That's the price of the team though that's Randolph play price right there price with six points three boards chance for a three point boy here and does so so 3124 to score Randolph play with their biggest lead of the afternoon That's what a big time player does he steps up like that and with a big 12 seconds left that was taken away by Frye Very good defense Leave the ball.
Read the pass step right around him trying to get that thing in there, too.
MCCOY Now some pressure.
3 seconds left.
Bryce Turnaround and now he's going to be waived off.
It won't go anyway.
And that's it for quarter number three of a what?
A quarter for the Randolph play Lady Rebels.
They lead at 3124.

Randolph play on an eight year run over the last 5 minutes of the third quarter.
They lead at 3124 and you get a look at the red Devil crowd fired here and make an early county flip side of that.
Just three points in that third quarter.
A big turnaround from the first half.
They really got to get going again.
You're right day they are not attacking the offensive end of the floor like they were doing in the first half.
And it's making a big difference.
But the score says he represents right now Randolph playing him at the moment they're flowing with it there by Brice and peaks all over the boards.
They haven't put back the hitting shots.
You're intense on the defensive end of the floor.
Early counting has to come out beginning of this fourth quarter and establish some intensity on their defensive end of the floor and convert those open shots They're getting.
Spann, three of six from three point range today, got nine points if you want a price also warming up, he's got seven points, five here in the second half in the third quarter.
That's good news for Randolph playing there.
Good.
Look at that.
Run it over about four and a half minutes there.
I don't know where Spann has gotten his confidence from, but he's attacking thunder crack the gates.
He dropped his balance.
He's sitting on the free throw line, nine points.
You kind of gave us a little smile over here, mid-quarter shooting down of that ball and got that on the roll.
And when it's going your way, it's going to kick probably close their eyes today.
She's doing a great job having a big game.
I know she feels it.
First player today to reach double figures for the team and now she's the got 11, now got 11.
So the lady cats looking to counter here can't let this thing get away from them.
They trail now by nine 3324 and tandem with the basketball into the corner That's some great intensity on defense going to be tight they've got to attack trying to work that ball into the four to keep tough there standing straight trying to make passes over really a really intense defense.
It's not going to happen that easy.
You've got to put it on the floor and attack the gaps, span with it up top.
We saw Randolph play very patient in the opening stages of this ballgame, but they have certainly picked up the pace and it looks like we're going to have a foul away from the ball offensively.
It's going to be called on the Lady Devils going to be calling on 32 on the deep.
She's not a green.
Didn't like that at all.
That's okay.
I understand that being for the ball goes back over to the lady cats to the credit of Randolph play they're still very poise in the half court they just been converted some really nice shots down and this is a stop once again gets rid of it McDaniel three point land off the iron there that follows her own shot.
Good hustle.
That's exactly what has to take place here In this fourth quarter penetrating pitch, McDaniels had to knock down that shot.
They've got to find a way to put the ball in the basket that's inbound underneath her own goal ballgame McDaniel with five points all the first half for early county they need her to get fired up as well Stanton Bridget Williams posting up inside trying to dump it into her there they are really making them work that clock here.
Stanton from outside three point shot for Courtney Chatman that could be a big huge basket The teams the momentum early training right here they really needed that six points for the senior champion averaging nine on the season That is a big bucket 3327 we're going to call it on Randolph throw the ball to go back over they planning a six point game this is a game this is going to be a really good possession right here.
Important possession early counting under 6 minutes to go in the girls state championship.
That's Williams with it seven of course gets rid of it.
I really think they need to try as hard as they can to get that ball back in the paint from the point that and pull the trigger a little off the mark there though.
But McDaniel keeps it alive.
Tamina is feeling the pressure.
She doesn't have to go for the big one right now.
Just keep playing some really good basketball, some high percentage shots here, working around McDaniel for three short and taken down by Daniel Jones and cleared out of there by the Lady Devils throughout the film and brings it across midcourt as Randolph plays slows down the pace here a little bit.
They got the lead 3327 you're right they did slow down the pace.
They do need to continue to apply the pressure offensively in attack early counting continue to keep them as well much as you can and get it as many baskets as you can.
Why they're not actually flowing and playing with a lot of chemistry right now.
They're not struggling.
Saturday WHISTLE Oh here court their time out it's going to be called 32nd timeout call by Randolph play again early county right number three come on in Randolph play right Number two the lay lady devils ranked higher but it was actually early That's won the a region championship there and one double play which is a really is a credit to early county because their son sounded like a championship team they're not afraid to play the big games and you know they've already proven that they can handle the pressure definitely proven that they can beat Randolph play Friday night at 7:30 p.m..
It's Georgia's longest running high school sports and academics program prep sports.
Plus, you'll meet some of Georgia's most successful student athletes, athletic programs and much more.
Again, prep sports.
Plus Friday's at 7:30 p.m. exclusively on TV.
Personally, one of my favorite shows, Jim Jordan, who does an excellent job.
And I tune in every Friday night when I get a chance.
Without a doubt, it's good to see TV do what they do with high school athletics and it's certainly appreciated.
I had the opportunity calling sports like basketball and football and baseball all year long, and I know that it is certainly watched all around the state.
Very appreciate that ball kick the way their loose ball.
Great hustle by Courtney Chapman He was all over the defensive effort You had Randolph play guard in trouble.
He had a head down trying to save that ball.
But that was great defense, aggressive.
I'll tell you, that's one young lady has played hard today, sporting champion.
She's working all over the floor offensively and defensively.
She's trying to steal the momentum back for early count.
They've been extending their defense to a44 man, two minute span.
Breaks it two on one inside, knocked away a foul and be called on Williams Randolph play had no problem breaking that press that time I think it was a surprise to see that full court press watch it back right here underneath.
Oh trying to swap that thing away.
They're got a little arm that's making sure you don't score, just making sure you look at the numbers on Jones.
There's seven points all in the first half.
Unable to hit the free throw there 14 fouls on Randolph play three now on early down here in this fourth quarter Jones puts up some top 50 on that trip It hits him it hit the free throws and again we're still kind of early enough where it's hurt too bad, but it could catch up to either one of these two down.
This could definitely make a difference in the game at any level.
High school, college.
And we're going to look at Erika McCoy's turn around.
That's who we haven't heard from in the second half.
I'd like to see her get the ball more in the paint.
First bucket.
Yeah, exactly.
From the point in the second half with 351 left in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, back on the other end, Lady Devils trying to get the shot to go won't go.
Williams slows it up for the county doing a good job adding up the intensity to getting back to getting really good defense here all over the boards now I think it's all in there You see in the fourth quarter they're going to count the bucket.
It looks like bucket and a foul.
What a play.
There goes Courtney Tack and she's still taking a turn.
She's given everything she's got for this championship game.
Eight points for Courtney Chapman.
She's been there all game trying to make it happen.
That time it happened.
It fell for fouls going to be on spin her first team fifth and down a great start.
That's a good step that she does one point ball 3332 Randolph play with a one point lead Talbot led by one at the break 2120 about an eight over run the final four and a half in the third quarter there in Randolph play took a commanding lead but now early Doughty with some momentum here the miss by Randolph played it got the basketball the chance to take the lead here it's a big play Tennessee think as they twist in the Great Depression easy early county by their own eight in a run in the last 4 minutes.
That's a big difference in the game in the fourth the like Randolph play was a moment ago that was nearly knocked away by Tilmon.
I think that full court press has made a big difference only because Randolph plays Miss and on the other end, they're breaking the press Easy, boy, unable to get that one to fall.
And now Tilmon will walk it off the floor here, 250 to play in the Double Girls state championship.
And what's it going to be called underneath here?
Oh, I don't know what that one was about, but I'm not allowed to talk about the rest, especially in a state championship game.
Foul is going to be called on.
McCoy 14 fouls now on or look down and they're going to look at Crowder back here as Bridget Williams takes a seat Randolph off play inbounds from underneath her own goal that span with it up top over the Tilmon at a time out going to be called by coach Flynn in a smart full time out lady red devils want to talk things over here to tie ball game one point game 3332 can't ask for anything more okay this is the way as opposed to be played down to the end to keep it tight.
236 And you know, I want to ask you, obviously you were in the game a long time, five time Olympian, the the Michael Jordan of women's basketball Don't age me, but not a day over.
Not a day over 25.
But, you know, it seems like the sport of basketball has progressed so much, especially for girls.
Seems like there's a lot more opportunities nowadays with the WNBA and the scholarships.
Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.
But you've kind of you've been through the game.
Are there more opportunities for women's basketball?
There's tremendous amount of opportunities.
And I think young ladies in high school and the high schools are well known around the country.
So, I mean, if you get the opportunity to play professional basketball here in America one day, which is exciting to me, and it's been a long time coming for us, it will reach that level of play and be respected as professional athletes.
And, you know, it'd be great to see these young ladies go on to that level of play.
And it seems like with that, with the opportunities, the level of competition, as you mentioned, is really stepped up.
It has gotten to be a much more competitive championship on the line between two teams that have played this year.
Fifth meeting and a jump ball call for national Hero early sounding.
That was a great call.
That was great defense by Courtney Chapman against He's Everywhere making it happen.
I'll tell you what, you got to respect that.
You got to be proud of Courtney.
She's committed.
You're going to to look at it.
Harrison reaches in there, Paul, Just enough and not too much to get a foul.
So Chapman with the basketball over the course, that's a big time.
Tick, tick, tick.
Big girl.
Pick and I'll talk to him before they really need it back in here.
They really need to convert it.
Baskets 2 minutes.
That's in the championship.
Of course, the boys game upcoming between Mitchell Baker Indicator and I know Herb White's excited about that one.
The elevator from Decatur it's a baker with all kinds of tradition on their side but right now a barnburner in the girls match up.
Wow that was a great great penetration on Gordon's part.
I thought she made a good decision to try to put that up in the points quarter.
Steph not really box blocking out and you got these down in the basket.
You can't leave it there.
She's going to get those boards and you devils with the inbound crowd up on their feet here and make it.
It was interesting to see Tillman handling the ball at the end of the game here when she hasn't done it earlier in the game.
Danielle Jones up top clock winding down.
Both teams seem like you're playing for the last bucket here.
And if I'm going to be falling, it looks like on Chapman Early County can set a win and play some good position defense.
They really don't have to foul this much time left in the game Looks like a really good position defense keep the pressure on and hope that brand of make their own mistakes and come up with this ball Coach Brown good call the 32nd time out for the lady cats and you can see it on their faces It seemed like both coaches that James Bland of Randolph playing coach Mary Brown of early County before the game started laid back you know not saying a whole lot but now they've they've crept out on the floor a little bit Thomas game time I'm sure they all they could do is think about the strategy and what they really needed their players to do to today to win this championship ensure sure both coaches want to win championships no Randolph player has a history there early can you how big could this be for them.
Let's throw it huge for a back down court side, David, just to in a bad way.
What's going on?
Well, it looks like Coach Bland, who for Randolph Play, is doing it play by play.
They know it could come down to that final play.
The last one didn't work and result in the turnover.
Let's see what happens this time.
Indeed, a minute 30 probably will come down to the last bucket or maybe the last free throw.
You never know.
There's so many scenarios that can play out here.
This final 90 seconds play need to just play with confidence, take care of the ball.
I was ready to take with the basketball for Randolph.
Play Lady Devils with a one point lead.
122 left early counts, but did the foul going to be called on the canvas to answer?
Yes.
He did take a chance to see how to use that outside hand instead of an inside him not allowing her body.
So that contact that outside he would have allowed her to get that off.
And I believe that's going to be seven team fouls.
Yes, it is.
On early count, I saw one and one situation here now for the Lady Devils as Jones, the sophomore heads to the line Daniel Jones seven points today all in the first half and three rebounds as well.
Well now is now that the shooting is really not a bad foul because they get enough to score they have to up the tie game.
This is on the front end early count.
It brings it down.
That's a big miss right there.
They all become big now.
Now, these free throws are huge.
112 left and this place is rocket.
Fans from both sides have filed in.
Both teams have traveled well, as expected, both principals.
As we talked to you at halftime, they're very excited.
Randolph plays man in the guards shot from the corner after the rebound McCoy on an eight and the fouls Eric McCoy big basket Nobody could take that sector off Didn't get a body on us to get that rebound put it back in that was huge.
Here it is again after this McCoy with the position this one time in the game you don't leave anything you put a body on everybody that was huge foul going to be on spin 16 fouls on Randolph play and that one is there to move forward He's still in it 3533 the lady cats with a three point play and a two point lead here on the board and now it's going to be called by early Saudi.
They say this is very exciting.
53 seconds left.
And you know, we've talked about it, but it's just amazing.
These two teams have played four times Today's number.
They've split two games and those were the two.
Their only losses were against each other.
Just teams and fans, for that matter of schools are very familiar with each other.
And who would know that their both their journeys would end right here in the state championship.
You really never know and we still don't know.
There's playing time given a game like this.
But I tell you, Ernie County had, you know, for the simple fact that they won the regional is a big thing to me because you know how to put it together.
They can keep trying and play and that's going to you know I think that could be them.
Yeah huge advantage for me for early came by be those seniors as well Randolph players have scored since about 747 of this quarter believe it or not.
So it is kind of slowed down a little bit and that has allowed early county to get back in the ballgame and take the lead here with under a minute to go.
Yeah I think two timeouts and you know those really quick timeouts and all the talking is kind of you know had them thinking about the game now they had the momentum they had they were converting, they were very confident in the passing lanes.
All of a sudden they all look kind of status quo spinning around hoping the cloud runs out.
So here we go.
TILMON Inbounds, do you want a price as you get a look at the early county run?
11 Oh, in the last 650, this has been a game of momentum for both teams back and forth, taking away underneath jump ball, possession, arrow and the ball will stay with Randolph.
That's a huge break for Randolph play because was such an easy bucket to convert that they let slip away going inbounds price turnaround allow the runner there are 5 to 9 points that's a big time player stepping up taking some time with a big bucket as well.
27 seconds left, tied at 35.
Well, we're talking overtime here.
Coach Bear Brown got a call another time out.
They're going to they're going to play from the last shot and that championship round has anything to say about it.
It will not be in overtime system.
We were going to win this one.
Don't go away Trophy presentation immediately following And of course, we want to stay on schedule.
We always I don't know if I should say overtime or not.
I need to knock on mobile a little bit, but you never know, man.
We might be headed for that.
We're talking good basketball, saying basketball.
Nobody wants to go home.
Doesn't matter if it's overtime.
I'm looking forward to that triple-A girls game, too, a little bit later on this evening.
Of course, Gainesville, all kinds of tradition in the finals state taking on Perry came up big last night against previous unbeaten Westminster who was 30 and heartbreaker Harry he with a big ballgame there The Panthers going to try to complete the run to the state championship.
That ought to be fun.
It's going to be very exciting to see Big Tom Humphrey go to work.
And of course our next game, the Boys championship, Mitchell Baker indicator going at it.
That's going to be a very entertaining contest.
I had the opportunity to call it a mitchell Baker State Championship or two.
I know you've seen them as well.
They're always fun to watch.
Can't keep up with all the junk in these exciting basketball great tradition.
We're going to look at some of the earlier games today.
Of course, Taylor County winning the single-A girls championship over Jenkins County and of course, the game prior to this loss saw Winfield Academy win 83, 72 over southwest Atlanta.
Christian, that was a ball game as well.
A lot of athletes on the floor now 18 seconds left.
Here we go, folks.
Final shot, perhaps in the Double-A girls state championship, early county with the basketball Randolph play in the right.
5 seconds left.
Oh, those are away.
Spin one second and a shot will not go.
They're going to lay it off.
He did not get it off and time real play shot.
They had the championship win but she did not get the ball out of her hand at time.
And we are headed for some free basketball.
Oh, my heart.
It was.
I cannot believe that last second of all people's families had a great game tonight playing so much confident and you could see the clock, three zeros across the board there.
He had a hand downs.
He was like I'm just going out.
I got to give their spell in my opinion, early county maybe made their their play a little too late there.
It was only about 3 seconds left.
They had the ball really midcourt and it would have taken quite a shot.
I don't think they were really aware of what the what the seconds was taken down.
But at the same time Credit Randolph play, they extended the defense on the pressure on the ball and they made it really hard for them to pass.
And, you know, they pack it in the middle with the big people need man to man.
The guards made it really tough.
So a four minute overtime.
Let's quickly throw it on down to David's asking, what's going on, man?
All right.
Well, they pretty much said, as usual, in overtime, you start from the beginning.
He just kept his players up.
He didn't give them any specific direction.
He just said, play hard.
That's yours.
All right.
Indeed, A brand new ball game right here to make it center flex overtime in the Double-A girls state championship.
They've gone along with Teresa Edwards.
They're give you all the action with the rest of our TV crew and it has been a long weekend.
Hats off to those guys for hanging in there.
A lot of sleepless hours a night for those folks playing.
The most interesting facts about overtime is usually the first team that scores is the first team that settles down really, really quick and continues to play well in overtime.
The team that get scored on, usually it tense up and really stress about that first basket.
We'll see what happens here.
Both teams seem so evenly matched.
It's been a game of runs.
And as we mentioned, the fifth meeting between these two early counting has actually seen an overtime game in this year's state playoffs and round three against Turner County.
And they won that ball game.
And there's Brandon Tillman with the first bucket of the team.
He's the same player that took control of the game in the semifinals score right now playing with questions coming over time to do the same thing.
Early count is going to really have to attack.
They're going to have to come out and be aggressive right now.
If not, settle and wait and stand around, see who's going to score.
There you go.
First line jumpers there for Bridgette Williams.
Four points for Williams on a day and all night it back up to 37 in that span with it up top.
TILMON looking at Lane Oh trying to get it inside the bounce basketball too hard though but Jones is there keeps it alive tries to work it down low against McCoy.
That's a good battle and traveling going to be called on Randolph play to win a little too far.
That was a great penetration.
I thought she was going to do the pass off, but I think she saw the gap too soon.
It just went a little too far.
Lost a foot.
She did try to pinch that off.
Like you said, it twisted ankle.
They've got to slam on the brakes.
And her got a little too close to her man so early counted with the ball tied up during the two minute mark of course the lady cats 18 consecutive victories to be a big possession here early county back at top a reset of course no shot clock and high school basketball champion with it up top being guarded by span since the Randolph play lead in seven plays open opened on the 47 plays and does not amendment man to man.
I can't tell if it's a triangle or three or box and one or whatever but it worked out tough tough shot there by white I unable to get that ball to go now Coach James plan calls a timeout with 131 left in the overtime and got it back up Steam has really been back and forth.
We've seen a pair of eight home runs.
We've had an 11 oh run.
He's going to be interesting to see how they come out of his timeout.
Hopefully they stay as confident as they've been in the attack and crash.
The boards as piece in place has been really done really well tonight on the boards.
So he managed to continue that that way.
But they really on screen, as you'll see coming out top with the ball as long as it is, he is in an early going so she's got to lot to squeeze play and you know we'll talk about some of the players that have stepped up here in the second half.
Of course, you want to try to real find those two right now.
You have on break right here where you go to get the ball from right here.
That is like just like David told us they themselves control this diagram on, the play by play there in that final few seconds.
A nice time to do it again here in the final, what, 31 oh, execution.
Execution twice.
Bam.
Big ball again, three three pointers.
It has certainly stepped it up.
And as you said, they gave her that shot early in the game.
I wouldn't be surprised to see her maybe here, try to try to throw up another one, although early count has been kind of sitting on a little bit.
But again, I don't think that's what Coach Drew, but I know that she would not hesitate.
There's Telvin with it has a look underneath all well go had some room there but couldn't get the stop to fall That will go the other way unfortunately trying to get her and his layup and reached in again drew a foul on that one.
But I tell you I kind of expected her to come out because she is the one because coach can push the Baltimore man at the end of the game.
She is the young lady.
So 17 fouls a piece.
Now Randolph play picks up their seventh so a one on one situation for Erica McCoy and the lady cats she made the really huge one earlier 12 points four rebounds make it 13 She goes It's really nice to collect the big free throw and a timeout is going to be called once again by Coach Bland wants to talk things over so early counted Jones back out in front after that free throw 3837 123 to play in the overtime again grown a lot with Teresa Edwards bringing you all the action here any future Olympians out there on the floor?
Perhaps so.
I never knew I would be in Libya when I was in high school.
Are you kidding me?
Everyone has an opportunity.
Exactly.
But we hope you're enjoying this broadcast of the GHC class, Double-A Girls State Championship, and you can show your appreciation and support by becoming a member of TV's.
It's easy and totally secure.
Just log on to our website at w w w dot gpb dot org and thanks for supporting high school sports on TV.
I got butterflies.
They tell you what I know.
It's one of those things where you're not even in the game, but you know, kind of I feel it.
I just feel like you're back in there still.
You know there's certain to be has been competitive and you know, you hate to think that there will be somebody that will lose this game the way both teams have played.
They've been there all year long.
They know each other real well and they went off to both these teams.
Once you get to this point, everyone's a winner.
If that at some point two for two on that trip, that's huge.
3937, early county in front, still extending their defense.
Good press and defense without fouling is exactly what they need.
All 38 brings it across puts it across for Randolph play span up top Tilmon that's peek inside Brice turn around off the glass won't go loose ball span keeps it alive and I believe they're going to get Spencer Fowler lost it he slipped in their last war footing.
I tell you, I thought that was pretty close.
I didn't think he tried to get up too hard, but, you know, get win either way.
So under a minute to go now, 58 seconds.
So now Randolph play showing a little bit of backcourt pressure here early tries to get the ball in They do so that's what they need to play really good defense for that phone as well and found that to be called an off play.
Well I guess if you're going to try to create a turn, you want to create it in the back.
A Often you have an opportunity to lay it out.
Matt McCoy proven the hit.
These big free throws at the end of the game is not the one you want to have there right now.
Two for two on that last trip, six of seven from the line today is Saturday.
He is killing them out there and that's the Erica McCoy we expected to see coming into this afternoon.
15 points.
He's just shy of his season average has got 16 and she's fighting like crazy And the boys here eight of nine free throws on the day for Erica McCoy.
And that is really the difference here in this final minutes so far, 4137 and I love this extended defensemen momentum when they're playing really cautious they're not trying to foul great great possession defense hands up.
Everyone's active.
They have no choice.
No it's not the time to have a let them any devils down by two possessions now foul going to be called and tries to go to the line but only 29 seconds and no play still working to get the ball.
And both times they tried to get the ball into plays and she's she's taking it up strong.
She did what she needed to do to get to the free throw line price at the line.
You see the other remaining four in the ballgame over there talking to Coach Flynn.
Diagraming out the final 29 seconds.
You can look at price of numbers, nine points and make it ten as price rattles one in their big one.
I'm sure you can look to see Randle play extend his defense.
They're going to be in the passing game.
This is going to be a press, probably a minimum price and span in double figures for Randolph players in the quarter with 16 for early January salary and a second one rattles in and out of there that's still alive ball one of two on that trip and a foul called Big McCoy was surprised it wasn't five close he had to waiting to see how the big rebound eight rebounds coach Mary Brown and coach James Bland first coach plan their 23 years at Randolph Play.
And certainly a legend has done an excellent job at that program.
What did you say?
Sabrina McDaniel at the line, Big shot.
That's a big shot to her first point in the second half, she struggled hidden hidden shots tonight on the outside the and yeah she's been all over the place defensively but you see her points there and rebounds seven and she hits a pair of free throws and it's back to a two possession game 4338 2522 seconds.
That's a lot of time now, Steph.
They settle in place with the defense early down.
He won the region one championship.
There's a three point shot off the mark, no foul pops out and stood her ground and a foul foul by Kelvin.
Oh I think they're feeling it I think early down I could feel it right now the way the pass reads and one chance they defeated Randolph play in that region turn it up and play it the higher ranking at number two early Number three, some history to be made at AT&T.
This is their not only will be their first state championship, this is their first trip to the finals period.
Meanwhile, Randolph play has been here before.
They won titles in 96 and 2000.
But it may be this term.
MCDANIELS We got to let her come down on that.
She's already jumping before she releases it.
She's got seven points misses on the first.
Can much pretty much clinch it right here with 9 seconds left.
You're right.
She had a really big first half 80 points for Sabrina McDaniel.
Played a of minutes tonight obviously a great team leader brand off play going to throw it up.
Still plenty of time on that clock, though.
And the clock is going to stop with 2 seconds.
Oh, celebration, as I'm sure.
Still 2 seconds left to play.
They still got to inbound the basketball, but I think it's pretty much elementary here in the early county.
Lady Bobcats from Blakely, Georgia, are going to win the Double-A girls state championship in 2003.
You know, remote places just, really no need for him legs.
They got a great, great run out of the great team and well coached As you said, the champions state everybody's a winner.
Exactly.
I was just 16 say he said when you get to this point, everybody's a winner and that needs to be aired next year.
No seniors on this Randolph play team.
Exactly.
They will be there.
But right now, the celebration is on for early county.
There's a lady Bobcats catcher, a 2003 Double-A state championship.
Congratulations to coach Mary Brown and early County High school.
What a season.
Well-deserved.
I'm excited for great game ladies first to say state championship as well and you got to be excited for those young ladies there.
They're going to look at the fans who have made the trip today to the Macon Cineplex to watch their team capture that state championship.
Hats off, though, as you said, Randolph, play the Lady Red Devils, certainly a good team.
As we mentioned, those seniors, they're going to be there next year.
They will be around for a long time.
Of David Belsky standing by with a winning coach, Mary Brown David.
All right.
Yes, we're here with Coach Brown.
All year.
You said give it your best, except the rest.
This is about as good as it gets.
Yes, it is.
And these men who work hard for this for several years and these are a lot of seniors this year, and I'm just so proud of them.
And they worked hard.
They got down, they came back and they scored.
They hung in there.
They fought their way back into it.
And I'm so proud of them.
You all had won 18 in a row.
It looked like you didn't want to lose and lose one now.
No, they did.
They wanted it.
They wanted it bad and they showed it up there today.
All right, well, y'all split it this year.
This was pretty much the tiebreaker, but I guess this is the sweetest one.
You all of it.
Yes.
Very sweet victory.
I can't think of anybody.
I'd rather be for the state championship than Randolph going.
All right.
Well, congratulations, Coach.
Best of luck.
All right, that's it.
Early County are the champs right?
There you have it.
A lot of emotion here, a lot of excitement as the trophy presentation gets ready to take place.
They're going to look at a big, big hug from coach Mary there for early County.
The young lady Bobcats.
Again stay chances can throw it back to the booth.
Jim Pinocchio standing by to set things up for our next game Jim.
Thank you, Dave And what a game you had 4438 Bobcats win it over the Red Devils in an exciting game.
There you see the trophy and the champions are saluted and can bet there's going to be a lot of parties down in Blakely, Georgia, tonight.
Eric McCoy.
Erica McCoy led the way with 60 points for Blakely for early counted, and he'll run a spin.
Had 11 points for Randolph playing.
There you see the champions once again getting the trophy for winning the 2003 championship.
Willie County Bulls turn the trick back in 1970.
But for the girls, it's their very first championship in basketball.
Here you see the final 44 for 38 for Dave Gardner, Teresa Edwards, David Zaleski and the whole technical team here in Make It Up Jim, tonight.
Gail, thanks for watching TV and the girls Double-A basketball championship, Double Double and Boys championship.
