Live from the center plex in Macon.
It's the Girls Double-A State Basketball championship featuring the Union County, Lady Panthers and the Greater Atlanta Christian Ladies Spartans.
And welcome to Championship Weekend Day two as we roll on here from Macon yesterday the boys championships five games we just completed the single-A girls championship.
Coming up after this, the triple quad and five games.
For now, it's the double game.
Let's go courtside now.
Phil Hansen and Dave Gardner.
All right.
Thanks, Jim.
They've to along with Phil Hansen, It's round two.
The stage is set.
And Phil, a couple of good teams going at it today.
Two teams that are familiar with each other and two teams that have similar styles.
Exactly.
They both teams play extremely hard.
They all handle the ball extremely well.
Let's look to the road to the final today.
And you notice it went through Randolph Clay, who was the defending champion, but Union County up ending Randolph play 50 to 42.
And a big reason for that in the semifinals was the play of Andrea Neely and Joanna Day.
Lewis.
Certainly two big players for Union County.
He's everything you want in a post player.
She's got great hands, loves contact, fearless, has a great will to win this, did a superb job, set the tempo offensively and defensively for their club.
You saw her numbers of course and also Day Lewis an unbelievable 13 points per ballgame there.
She's going to run the floor and certainly the team leader for the Lady Panthers meanwhile greater Atlanta Christian they're a team riding momentum of course, they came into this playoffs looking to get to the state championship and then they really rolled right through their opponents.
As you can see, a lot of the scores there, if any final matchup before 6145 over Macon County, they feel they belong in this ballgame and they are certainly looking like it at this point.
This is their superstar right here.
She is the best impact player, I'd say, in the tournament.
She can score inside, outside, great defensive player, all around superstar.
She had 17 points in that ballgame against Macon County.
Did Baker they're going to look at Katy Best Pate, the big girl inside, and she's going to look to play a big part of today's game.
She's got super long arm.
She does.
She's got so long, it doesn't take a very long to close out because she's there.
So definitely dictate the tempo defensively for Jaycee.
They're ready for the starting lineup and throw it down to the floor for the introductions to Saturday's game.
We have the Union County Lady Panthers dressed in purple as your visitors on the scoreboard and the Greater Atlanta Green Break right here you go in and day Lewis comes to play every day.
Plus, Barnes is going to give you some outside shooting.
Henderson is going to give you a little point guard play feeler bang the board hard as a freshman outstanding player in nearly as we said earlier in the broadcast, that the will of the lions she and Johanna Day Lewis will not let you lose to have your attention for the starting lineup.
First for Union County and Forward a five foot seven Jordan Number 12 Lawrence Henderson and a five foot six freshman.
Number 22 Christoph Thielen at Center, a six foot senior number 35.
Andrea Neely gone five foot six, Junior Number 23 data for it's gone for the year.
Number 21.
Johanna Day Lewis and the IS Coach Rodgers next and now for your greater Atlanta Christian ladies partner and forward tech player a six foot material girl power inside who is going to help her in the wings.
Three points here you can see that they will bang it inside.
Also, defensive Temple Jersey, number 11, Lauren Keke at center.
But for the new year, number 48, Bill.
Hey, I got a five for the three senior number 12 and very powerful at guard with a 22 so real Laker right here you have it We're ready to rock from the naked blacks.
Let's see in Union County.
Coming up next, funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following you're watching.

Welcome back.
Live to the American Center plex.
Again, the Class Girls championship GRC in Union County going at it and a full let's talk about some keys to the game.
Well, I think rebounding is going to be a must.
You've got to win the battle of the boards also attacking their zone.
Both teams run on multiple sets of zones.
You've got to recognize what they're running and exploit the weaknesses and shoot the gaps.
Also attacking the half court execution on the offensive end of the floor, you're going to have to work and exploit each team's weaknesses.
I think you're going to have to locate the shooters.
Even will tip for the Lady Panthers of Union County.
Katie best picks number 40 and you see the foot and it is the lady space you can say the opening great pass great bounce pass outside that we said of course first you see the championship in 83 last year good start there they got to make Campbell flooring if they let her get it set, she's going to wear them out all day long.
Super pass by Cheryl Baker and Marie Campbell, the five three senior with the first bucket of the ballgame Man to man by Jaycee.
You've been down with this.
Look at it in Blairsville, way up to our northern border up by Tennessee.
Advances inside strong and final whistle underneath.
Even though that didn't go, it was a good shot.
If you can get that close to the basket, you're going to have a pretty night because that's possession back over in their favor.
The first Sister Peeler, first team, first team county in a131 match is going to look like a23.
At times that looks like a one to shoot.
Just depends on what kind of offensive set you're running against it.
You want to find those gaps, shoot those gaps with the digital penetration is overloaded with the Thunder anchor for three Too strong that time off the mark Campbell trying to save it.
But I think those on the line as he hears it from the crowd after that last one again go see their first title shot since their championship of 1983.
So now the full court man felt like this by they're going to make Joanna Day Lewis spend some energy in the backfield bringing it up They need to force the team leader well whenever you need a big shot rebounds jump shot steals look to her.
She's going to answer the bell that's looking the rebound that's on and Baker will pull up for the jumper off the mark the foul is there people a nice job there keeping that ball but perhaps he didn't bring it down.
He used the dribble.
She kept it above her head.
Quick bounce up and score super job on your answers.
Back on the attack ball outside right now looking inside way and last touch by union so you see in the early going forward or nothing they've got the ball union's getting some good looks they just got to capitalize once they get it inside You look at coach Mike Mitchell, GSC Lady Sparks head coach.
His first season.
He took over, of course, after Dana Davis, former JCA coach, was stricken with cancer and in their coach's name they're wearing his name on it.
Arms today are the lady Sparks.
He was going to throw that pass away from the defensive man throw it to the outside hands.
Baker with it.
Now back over to Campbell Campbell looking to drive this thing inside there, knocked away the union's doing here is they're playing behind the post in front in the post making them throw over the top.
They look at it, Robby Stansell, Union County, third season to go dancing in the bucket for Jerry Jones, finding that gap in that zone.
Nice entry pass by Baker off the inbound so Ribeiro on the board six to nothing run for the lady spots open things up and right here is Neely trying to make a move inside Barrow go she got him to hand back the other way that's Amari Campbell She'll pull up now Campbell with a shot and rolls in and out of there.
Still a wind up jumper day is out of there with a little time on fall on the floor, 32nd timeout followed by the Lady Panthers.
They want to talk things over down six to nothing GMC off to a fast start feel exactly but that's a good turn out by coach Stancil She's a girl.
Settle down here Let's just run our sets.
We're getting good looks.
We just thrown it away.
Once we missed two layups, we're in great shape.
We can get it in there all day.
Those shots are going to drop.
You need county, of course, as we mentioned, beating the defending champion Randolph play in the semifinals.
They look at 21 points in that ballgame deal.
You also came up big.
It was their first semifinal since 1974.
So that was a great game.
They Lewis and Neely just would not let them lose.
They just refused to let them lose.
528 to go here in the opening quarter.
They have gone out a along with Phil Hansen, the girls state championship.
That first ballgame was good.
Wesleyan and Jefferson right down to the wire and Jefferson pulling now by three and stay.
Lewis on the drive from Atlanta puts it up no good defense he gets it right back go follows the wrong side, flips it up still off the mark and brought down that time by Eaton.
They got to run back to the paint establishment, get ready to play defense and for three gets it.
J.C. will score quick.
They would certainly have been on the line there.
I think they're only going to get it to man to man.
Defense again by J.C.
Double low stack here.
Oh, I did.
Now you must come and meet the pass.
You can't wait on.
You've got to create an angle off the move.
You don't create an angle.
You're going to create a space and the defense will shoot the gap to look at the field goal.
Picture Union County over five to open up the ball game.
J.C. four of seven right now.
That's a deceptive open fact.
Those are good looks.
It's not like they're shooting perimeter shots.
It's just the ball.
It's up to the both.
These teams do an excellent job of catching the ball, pivoting, pass, dribbling.
That's traveling.
Nice job inside to run that throw cut you know, with the pass into Neely and Union County is on the board is Barnes back on the other end now Oh nice to have inside the paint you've got to have great ball pressure on that lob pass.
So they're going to pick it apart all day.
Like I love to in the first game.
You allow that pass to sit back there like Dan Marino and look for days he'll pick your pass anti-bacterial for seniors to run the flex offensive over head and got screens and downs being the same side of the floor and no guarantees the ball and they go that easy back and running looking inside sitting in that box this is practices that coach meet every day can get in the post a little further off it's going to alter the shot 006.
But she's also a senior and she's got four points.
There you go, get him.
And then the team game is nearly out on the perimeter a little bit in this ballgame.
They need to get her more inside.
So she's got great hands and super feet and is very active as everything in one place.
Once the ball wants to score great will to win.
So you look at that we see Katy Best eight, six foot four.
She really seems to stand out across the rest of the ground and she's a tall six foot because of bones and he's just got great, great wingspan with her arms and he only hits the first and a couple of substitutions in the ballgame.
That's number ten.
Taylor Callahan.
She'll give a little perimeter punch to hit that standing.
Three is get left open and he's down, half down the second.
And she does so nothing but net there.
She's got four points one stop and a score going to We're right back in it three and a half to play here In the opening stanza, Baker puts it up and hits great body control, stop and pop Union County fans wanting to travel there.
But Baker hitting the bottom of the net for her first bucket of the game.
That's Baylor.
Look at outside.
Here's the flex here.
He puts up the shot, draws the foul and it's there now in this flex offense.
If you can stop that reversal pass, then that basically offense is going to stand still on one side.
But if you let them go from elbow to elbow at the pass, you're going to get that quick little jumper off the glass all day.
There's Neely knocking down her sixth point of the game.
She's averaging a little over 11 on the year behind to complete the three point play.
And she gets up and slowly but surely, Andrea Neely working her team back in the ballgame.
They've got the lead half.
That's Julie Warner, who also expected a moment ago to gassy inside.
Nice pass down Baker Just too quick.
You can't play her man to man.
They're going to have to get some help.
She's got four on the afternoon.
Lady Sparks still on top 16, seven, eight.
Lewis calls the shot on the drive no good And it's taken out of there by Baker.
Go on the floor with it.
On one hand.
Stop the ball.
She's a luxury there that Coach Mitchell has.
If she rebounds the break dunks because she's off to the races.
Baker averaging over 21 points a game.
She might be well on the way to that here in the first half.
She's got six already.
She is quick and quick.
You know just five nine senior left the ball nearly breaks three stays.
Oh they get to go that time but you see they're forcing a jump ball.
That's a good play because that's going to take a little bit of the pressure off Johanna Day Lewis having to get pounded from 94 feet basically up the whole floor.
They can scream at defenders and rattle her cage a little bit.
She's not going to be at the play so tight defense Krystal Watson into the ball game.
Six foot two long run, nice pass inside to the good screen for the screener.
You got to switch on that twice.
Taylor is out of there now.
That's their first bucket.
Watson from outside puts it up and this time with a trio of those sun switching to say, wow, she's only a sophomore.
You steal that time.
BILAS Got to throw that pass to the outside here away from the defensive man.
Look inside and down here.
Take it away.
Still, he's on the floor.
He's trying to come out of the rhythm, but it's hard to see having to wonder with it inside to Watson, too strong.
And I believe it's going to be last touch by Union County.
Like big people really run the floor.
Well, you look at the coaches and Scott numbers on the run in the box said here on this out-of-bounds play look for a double cross screen Hillary high tower number 20 Checking in for Jack that's Warner with the ball number 15 into the lane Now back out Callahan in front Watson got a whistle away from the ball that time the defense the double and the ball and the steal a jump ball over there I see what that response really raising the roof on defense today.
Again, you're making it tough on day Lewis on the receiving the pass because you're throwing it right at her.
You got to throw it away from her to the outside, hand away from the defense Always keep ball you in the man principal and look it over there on the far side.
Now back up top.
We set during the one minute mark Good Put a number on right behind you see on top down him making a move puts it on baseline to short that time and day Lewis is out of there with it It was nice back inside and I believe in it.
Barnes Let's roll the foul.
You never want a foul.
The shooter, she had the baseline as a defender.
She just would have sealed.
It may take a tough shot because she was below the block.
It's a long pass.
She's below the block.
When she catches.
She couldn't use the backboards.
He just sealed her.
She was basically shut down at five, six junior averaging 11, basically shoot on the first one and player checks in there.
Mikki Gurley did a nice job in the semi game, a little offensive sparking a couple of big threes Got to steal.
It's just what the doctor ordered.
His second one rattles out of here could rebound Callahan will push for the Lady Spartans with it was Watson that's got some inside Kelly on to toss though a little bit in front of her inching off the handle You always want a bounce pass into the post in the air pass out bounce pass she scores a layup It's more back court press now by gassy gassy with that pressure man the man is there fronting them making control over the top, trying to get the tip off.
Here's the flex across three.
Here's the downstream.
So you got to stop that reversal.
Does that mean something to him by being off the mark?
But having a little contact in there?
If you look at Coach Mitchell over there for Gassy, there's a screen and once you roll back to the ball, here she comes.
Just be patient.
Oh, she far out great play but she's got a cut inside of the defender.
Don't cut behind him.
Cut inside again Keep the ball You in the man.
So the lady finds Wimborne now 25 seconds on the clock here in the first quarter.
They lead it by 11.
That's Callahan with it as ball movement.
They're being patient, looking inside, trying to get Watson open perhaps and the ball won't play behind opposing in a high low three out to an action left hander to be a little short that time by Hightower and now back the other way and that's going to do it for quarter number 129 gassy on top of Junior's county with like a timeout and be right back with quarter number two from the making center play funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls basketball championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV and we welcome you back live to the you may consider a place there you look at the story after quarter number 122 nine GHC on top of Union County.
Let's throw down to the floor with Danielle Sargeant.
GHC is playing today not just for themselves but for former coach Dana Davis.
Davis stepped down at the end of last year after being stricken with cancer.
He was at the semifinal game to give the team a pep talk talk, and he's expected to be here today to cheer the team on as a tribute to him.
The team has his name written on their arms back to you.
Certainly an emotional event.
And again, GHC, a team that has certainly had emotional ups and downs.
And I tell you what, their coach probably here at the ball game today is serving as a little extra motivation.
It's a nice touch.
All right.
Now, Calhoun, Union County, I'm sorry, Union County.
What they have to do here offensively is try to get the ball inside.
Now they're getting great looks and they keep running.
That flex series are going to get a lay up on the baseline or they're going to get some elbow jumper all day long.
Union County will inbound will do the honors and they Lewis has it driving out to strong thanks a little back for that time but I'm going to hit Baker back at the other end drives nice pass but I really pushed the ball up well soon as they do Baker with the band on the show on stage right inside that trying to get to go really fighting for it on the floor and a jump ball ball when to get on the floor.
Laura Eaton, the five a junior facing the jump ball there, possession of range with gassy at the inbound they get it into a hero she knocks it down nice pass right off the inbound that time within a1211 press here they got to look middle look middle and inside they got to get it across.
Time is running out and they just do get it really.
Now it's a little bit open room.
Thought about it, kicks it back outside to Barnstable, pull the trigger, get six and knock them down.
That's their first bucket of the afternoon and it's 20 to 12 here.
Now with Baker Nice pass Great pass to hear all great floor vision excellent job Keeps your head up looks ahead someone's got the same until Jersey she kicks it ahead so late back to 12 back Nikki Gurley who had it knocked away from behind by Baker.
I tell you, no one runs the floor like a miss Baker.
She's going up and down the floor as a glider.
But you got to remember now, anybody you pass on the dribble, they're behind you.
So if you're not cognizant of the fact of where they are, they're going to get the cheap steal, quick shot off the inbound little off the market time by Davis now in re Campbell pushes the other way you only get one in done here Baker pulls up for the shot off the line they had it knocked away on the follow and a whistle foul underneath but he is still active on the boards.
So this two teams familiar with each other, as you said in the opening region, region eight away and actually met back in November.
That was GHC winning by eight in overtime over Union County.
So these two looking forward to a good game today and they're certainly familiar with each other's styles.
That's why execution is a key, because everybody knows where you're going to run.
Union County is four for 14 from the floor and Jessie is 12 for 23.
Baker from outside, she hits Cheryl Baker with eight points here, suicide at the fingertips.
And indeed, Baker does come up with a very nice job by pate back in transition.
Whenever you throw that pass over to the three people, it's going to get tipped on ice inside.
Now back out there for Campbell and he may need a timeout here now with four points, this time to pull away a 28 to 12 on his 6 minutes to go in the first half and they use wonky fouls to be called they're on Campbell you got to look at that again I thought she set the ball again yeah she made a move a little bit and it looked like if she were moving they're a little bit you got him into this and him he does a nice job posting this low wide.
Oh, it was hitting the floor over there to Union County when they kind of feed the post to her with their plane over the top of it, reverse the ball, let her spin and ten and now she's got her on her hip and she's going to score the layup on the other side because they just try to keep floating it in.
Now the angle isn't the same paint with those long arms it knocked away.
Baker Now trying to get something going, but a turnover might take it an extra step.
They're going to slow that move down just ahead she is so jet quick now against this one, 211 press When they throw the ball, make sure you don't receive the first pass below the second marker, because now the sideline in the in line can be a defender and one can three or two can be four.
But look middle now look opposite.
They look at the turnover picture they're they Louis thought about it kicks it back outside that's Barnes for three off the mark and the girl comes out of there with it.
Union County is getting one and done and they want to take it a few passes and a couple of ball reversals from that flex to make the defense go some strong side, the weak side and back strong side.
But with it over to Baker once again.
Yeah, it was that ball back that happened earlier.
Again they're coming in clamping on that one, two, one, one.
Now look pass back immediately or look middle now now exciting for Anderson.
They're trying to keep it in but he fires nearly so even though the press didn't get a steal there, that was just as good because it allowed them to get the turnover saw number 40.
So Georgia Adams checkered into the game five and senior for the lady Panthers 131 match take back out to Campbell now over outside eat with it and a turnover once again nice job by Union County with that defense kind of lulled them to sleep a little bit which produced the three second call looks like a wholesale change coming up for Jaycee.
Just a reminder, you can listen and watch all of these state playoff games on the Internet.
Simply go to W WW dot GPB dawg dot org and follow the links all games will be available for an entire month.
S w ww g t d. Talk listen again but sloppy on the court now but the press is making them do is they're trying to rush it up the floor.
Just be patient.
You don't have to go for the home run right off the bat.
Look inside, look outside, look inside and then skip it opposite and you'll have it up the floor.
Warner Into the ball game along with Hightower and Callahan in there.
Why slop Steve and Ryan also in there and from outside signing a short that time by Hightower and following the rebound there we've got a whistle now so applying that pressure nice job and the call on women's gymnastics Middleton helicopters come back to us looking a little tip.
Kyle Larson still at least down there.
Dallas, final thought on the ground in Union County comes out in the first half.
He's out of there.
So tough on the way.
The pass by any injury overall coming in at 28 to 12.
He has to go here in the first half and into the third on the shot by Callahan off the mark in the shoot Nice ball movement by JC Barnes nearly lost all out there name is and this is a girl go get her little touch there she was law for day Lewis nice for the GMC so to say after an awareness of where their teammates ground zero is.
Swing the ball.
They go from right to left back inside.
Now this is making the defense run all over the place as shot by runner in and out of there.
Really awesome running the other way.
Nice pass but the back inside to nearly knocked away in the hands of Barnes he puts it up for a three and here she gets the chiefs said she can hit that.
That's his second three point shot of the game and they cut into that lead a little bit.
They just bounce back a little bit of right back and the winner gets his height there.
That's Watson in trouble.
They're the triple team.
They get it out of their back up top.
Great pass He shot is baby pass And that's again I think they're going to say that it put the runner on there by Hightower great pass by Jordan two point shot that time three from outside no good downhill back the way all of a sudden the tempo picking up a little bit Werner with a shot he's strong and Adam Sandler fighting for it whenever you get a rebound eight yards to turn to the outside away from the pressure and just this it about at that time and now this is going to be five and Taylor Callahan if you look at the three point numbers against three combined three point shots for those teams in eight attempts, the game is so deep they come in with one five, let them play a couple minutes and they bring in another group day.
Lewis handling it up.
So here comes the flex.
There's the cross screen and here's the downstairs.
Now they're going to get to elbow jumpers like that.
We're going to get Lance Adams off the back of the rim.
No good Jesus scrambling and a foul on Campbell.
So a turnover on USC that time the ball comes right back down to Union Line.
First step back for the imbalance.
This is the pass inside nearly post up Oh can't quite get it to go back down by the fake No don't telegraph you move gets a little hidden ball state get him up in the air then try to convert on the three point play Take the pull up take it to self, go back around.
The fire gets it.
And that's a heartbreaker right there.
That's a back breaker.
Ten points for Sheryl Baker.
In the first half.
She's got a big game, 45 seconds left.
Now in the second quarter, first half moving right along from the American Center Flex.
And that'll make you old as a coach when you get that foul, 18, 25 feet to the basket.
And that does now it stops the clock and puts them back on the line because Union County is in the bonus of 17 fouls on Jesse and they call it down low.
And even when it comes back in.
Day Lewis at the line you see her numbers and she hits the first Union County They can cut this thing about 11 or 12 and they're right in it open in the second half a 72% free throw shooter.
And this is the second one, though, an offensive for Neely.
She's got a chance at it and can't quite get it to go her own shot.
And you could say she's in that great play.
His post player running the big stop here on the flip side, going to work down to the last shot This go with the bounce so they have a chance to get the rebound and there's 20 baker with it.
Nobody does look like we're playing for the final shot Campbell back inside and we'll make a move from out into the lane Kansas side is there and the foul Oh my finish and he's the last two years a half a dozen points for Cheryl Baker personal on Kelly Panthers this go down for the jump in that press slow up that ball so they don't come down and get a shot if they can tie up as much time down here in the backcourt with the new game three point play way off the mark they the basket 3 seconds whistle and a travel they got a chance to get a play off here is going out of sight out of bounds and second on the clock and just good shot out look for something run for Baker 34 to 20 and it looks like Ruggiero will inbound and final shot here it is that's going to count said wow he never stop playing They think it counts but he never stopped playing.
Well they took it on the board.
No, they put it on the board.
37 to 20 Union County very upset their bench saying that she did not get that off.
Certainly looks very close.
They got to look at that.
But it is 37 to 20 showing on the make and center play scoreboard.
Cheryl Baker hitting that three point shot right at the buzzer.
And man, oh, man, either way, quite a shot there.
Let's throw it down to Danielle Kocher, down ten at the half.
She has three players over six one.
What are you going to do defensively to stop them on the inside?
Well, so far we've been real confused defensively.
We've tried different things, but at this point we've not managed to get in the right places yet.
So we've been a little helter skelter.
We've not done a good job of blocking out and we've been a little erratic offensively, so we just got to settle down and good luck in the second half.
All right.
There you have it.
That three point shot did not count for the score remains 34 to 20.
We'll take a timeout.
Be right back.
Gassy and Union County going at it from the Macon Center.

Our first time.

Excited to be here, proud of our girls.
Now, you were telling me that you started a new drama program last year.
Tell me a little bit about that.
We started to enhance our finance department, we decided we would start a drama club or drama program last year, and it's been very successful and there's been a lot of interest in that.
A lot of interest.
We put on plays twice a year and it's just been a very exciting for us who Thank you very much and good luck.
All right.
Thank you.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Danielle.
Good job.
She's catching up with all the principals as we continue on with the halftime festivities.
Hey, three other games coming up later today.
Take a look at the lineup here on TV.
And here's here it is.
Gainesville will take on north east in the triple-A championship game.
The quantity game features the black Knights of Central Gwinnett taking on the Warriors of North Atlanta and then the nightcap, the five eight championship featuring the last of the Trojans and the Collinsville Eagles back downstairs to Daniels Sergeant and Yelp.
I'm with Bill Burton Gacy's house excuse me, Jake's high school principal.
How excited are you to be in this position today?
We are very excited.
The last time we were here was in 1983.
I was the coach for the girls team at that time.
And so it's a real thrill for our girls to be back in the state tournament in the finals.
Now, you were telling me earlier about a new fine arts center that you built.
Tell me about that.
Yes, We have a beautiful, fine arts center that was built about it.
It finished about a year ago, and our one act play competition team won the state championship directed by Cliff Jones.
So that facility has really been an outstanding asset to our school.
And do you have any other projects planned in the future?
We hope to construct a new elementary school and a student center within the next three or four years.
Okay, Well, thank you very much.
Good luck.
Thank you.
Then it.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Danielle.
Well, we have first half highlights and the guys to bring it to you, the guys who are bringing the game to you all day long here on TV, Dave Gardner and Phil Hanson.
Hey, guys, How are you doing?
Gee, I'm been a long day, of course.
And just the second of five state championships today, Girls highlights.
Let's go and take a look at some of the first half highlights in the double play between Gassy and Union County for this trail.
BAKER They've got to locate her.
She's so explosive.
And if she misses, they must box out.
You've got to find your man, establish contact for ten and hold the contact.
They let her get set.
If they let her get set, Laura Eaton will knock them down all day on the other end.
Ascertainable Field.
Daniels Barnes is the big three point shooter for Union County and of course for Hightower, also knocking down a three point shot as well.
So again, there you go.
Look at the first half run down as far as the stats are concerned, 57% from the floor for GHC.
That's amazing.
Anyone who shoots 57 to 60%, they're going to be tough to beat.
Reading a lot of those shots, as you can see in the game, are coming from Chippy stick packs and misses that they're able to rebound.
Plus Baker taking it to the basket rebounds bounce fairly close, turnovers 12 to 7 in favor of gassy Union County, of course turn the ball over a little bit.
Things got kind of sloppy in that second quarter but then the tempo seemed to pick up.
They started run up and down the floor pretty well, and that's pretty much the story of the first half.
Let's go and send it back to you, Jim.
All right.
Thanks a lot, guys.
Hey, earlier today was the single-A championship game between Jefferson and Westland, a close battle right down to the wire.
Phil Hanson join me for that one.
I'll tell you, Leslie, is Jennie Hall had a fantastic game here.
She fires it from long distance, a three pointer.
Great shot there.
But Jefferson was too tough.
Look at Lee DuBose on the nice move underneath that comes Wesley in the Dana tourney.
A very strong move down low for Deanna for 30.
She had a big game Jefferson on the Belinda Fox three pointer she had 14 on the game did Quinn Nikki Rucker stutter step and layup Nice move by Nikki.
She can also shoot some long distance there you see Jefferson though again two tough lead to both the Browns down to both three pointer there DuBose then tries it the length of the floor She had a game high 21 points.
Jefferson celebrates their first state basketball championship in their school's 50 year history, winning it 5552 over Wesleyan.
Congratulations to Jefferson coach Kevin Jacobs and his entire staff.
More on the double championship coming up after this break.
You're watching the state basketball championships on TV, TV funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching member supported TV, your PBS station bringing you the best.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV live from the Macon Cineplex, get a look at the score of the girls championship.
Jaycee leading 34 to 20 at the half And film.
What's your new county going to have to do in the second half to get back in it?
Well, one thing, there isn't a 14 point play, so they have to come down, play stingy defense and an offense.
They must come down and try to get a good look every time they've got to stop.
Dribble penetration on the defensive end, rebound the basketball and offense don't force it.
They're playing on the high side.
Swing that ball so Neely can spin, pin and then get the layup on the backside.
Andrea Neely with nine points in that first half leading the way for the Union County Lady Panthers of Blairsville, Georgia.
Meanwhile, of course, the Lady Spartans coached by Mike Mitchell, and they were led in that first half by Cheryl Baker, who was absolutely on fire.
You got to take it with a three point shot right there at the buzzer, but she's still got a dozen on the afternoon.
She is the best impact player, I believe, in the tournament.
She can score inside, outside, can take you off the dribble.
And as good as she is offensively, she's it's synonymous with her defense.
She really comes play 94 feet averaging over 21 points a ballgame 80% free throw shooter.
She does it all over the floor.
There you go.
Look at some fans in attendance here as we get ready to crank up the third quarter from they may consider flex again, Dave Garner along with Phil Hansen, bringing you all the action, looking forward to a very up tempo second half.
I guess the first 2 minutes are key for Union County.
They have to come out, establish themselves early, don't get down, because then you're going to be playing behind the power curve.
They've got to come out, be strong, value the basketball, get a good shot one stop, come down, score, get another stop.
And don't try to get it all back at once.
Don't force.
Now, on the flip side, Jack's got to keep doing what they're doing.
Bang it inside.
They've got the height advantage.
Plus they've got Baker on the wing.
You can take anybody in the game off the dribble.
Both teams statistically coming into this ballgame right there.
Offensive play.
Union County is averaging around around 63 points a ball game 69 for gassy You can count his opponents, 47, his opponents 44.
So something will have to get here in the second half.
I commend you for the weekend that you've had two boys games, two girls games, that you've had it rough.
Well, I love it.
I just love it.
It's I was saying earlier today with Calhoun, as when you and I work together.
But everybody here, it's TV.
I love working with you guys and it's always fun working with you and Jim.
The game yesterday and the game there.
Calhoun And he's tall going at it was Utah Vikings winning the championship.
And now it's the girl's turn to shine.
The first turnover right off the bat there.
And you see off and running.
That is Rosario.
Nice job by Union County stopping the basketball Warren Henderson with it Number 12 over there That's great patience the swing it swing it back towards us so he doesn't have to be fighting That's Day-Lewis.
He thought about it now.
Oh what a big block that time by takes right back of their hands though.
Here comes the flash Here's a fast three downstream ten essential pull up off the mark but a right back I like Union County's tempo kick a little quicker to the ball than good he's got to remember there's a lot of time to play in this game.
Back over to Henderson looking inside, taking their time.
There's a mismatch.
Lewis goes up and will draw the foul.
He can score inside, outside, off the dribble.
Look for them to post a little bit in the second half and the prizes and the foul on Laura and that's her first team's first of the second half there Lewis Back at the line it's over 70% on the year from the charity stripe maintenance good on both of them.
So seven points now the game is four point game.
It's knocked off two points off the lead, no stop dribble penetration.
Baker pulls up in traffic and is short and the crowd lets her have it.
Jack back to that one, two, one one.
Press.
The ball kicked.
The first thing you have to look when you receive that ball is look, pass back is pass back is covered.
Then you got to look middle and then once it goes the middle reversed it up the sideline, go on the inbound, gets it in there.
No trouble though a double team into the hands of Campbell and now the ball's loose again.
That's Barnes finding more than a jump ball.
It brought that ball down, which allowed J.C. to get a handle on it.
You got to keep your chin above and square up strong.
Learning with the basketball.
Now over to Campbell.
Now he will set up for the Shot and Hicks two point shot that time for Eaton, 36 to 22.
That was knocked away from behind.
But I believe we're going to call for it.
J.C. does a nice job in that press.
They speed you up so fast, you come racing down here a little out of control and you think you have an open layup.
It's like foosball.
You take it and miss.
And now here comes J.C. back the other way.
Lauren Eaton with two quick fouls here in the third quarter, Davis pulls up, takes the shot off the back of the iron and Campbell back with it the other way.
Amari Campbell four points today five three senior Baker pulls up foul there by Matt Ryan The foul five actually got bumped in the head and the waste just made to go to shield on that one that's Mike Mitchell over there in his first season.
Oh in a value that ball can't make those careless passes Baker trying to foul that time 15 points at the shot to go again if you're going to block a shot take your inside hand and go over that opponent's outside shoulder and you'll never touch him.
That was as good as the first one on day.
Lewis making it earn it from the straight.
So.
Baker with a deficit and although that was a baker's dozen getting right around 80% on free throws this year, it's both jumping.
Just press right away.
Now, look, they had to have somebody on the opposite wing so they can swing it, then bring it if you don't want to pick it up there, because now that halfcourt line on the sideline act as a defender, one can be three or two can be four.
They start it up some nice pass with an inside a little post up and oh well blow Swanson is got to convert.
That's a good look JC back the other way the being inflation right now up looking at the he's now a tough shot so Baker is very gifted he continues to be he's got 1618 point lead 4022 is blind.
She got hit in the act and nearly got it too good.
You just take that as a coach that just drives you crazy right now against this trap.
There's three ways I say it.
Every trap.
What you want to do, you want to folks you want to assess and you want to attack.
You don't want to reverse the ball right away because the trap has shifted.
Once it shifts you reverse the ball, then you'll have a five on three or five and four bend offense to the offense chain of arms missing on the first and that's the third foul on Loren Eaton here in the last couple of minutes.
This is have one more three as Julie Warner number 15 who has checked back in for the lady Spartans and just six points in there.
So she is one of three on that trip.
Baker you look at her.
Oh, it's his pass to make it go out of sight and a little more ball question She can't sit back there and make that baseball pass from the top of the key into the post.
All right.
To make herself into it, only about a 53% reason throw shooting it.
It's the first time out on the floor for 21 to go in quarter number three from we make it plus 41 to 23 for GSC over Union County.
Just a reminder, don't miss Georgia's only statewide high school sports and academic program prep sports.
Plus, Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. right here on TV.
Again, prep sports plus certainly a show I enjoy watching.
It is certainly good for high school sports in the state of Maine.
They do a real nice job.
It's good listening to that whole Coach Stansell and shot he good at offensively, though offensively you look at your overload look at your high post it's a low post ball fake offside when you start to pull out good he's also coach Mike Mitchell talking things over with his Lady Spartans again in his first season doing an excellent job.
Well basically Dave he is in no hurry.
Basically when you try to reiterate to his girls, just slow down, let's run our offensive set.
We don't have it, pull it back out and we'll run it again.
On the flip side, Union County has got to speed them up a little bit.
Look for them to go.
We went all out man to man, decent trapping and try to get this game going up and down in places where they can run and it favors them both.
Good.
On that trip to a pace the end day Lewis trapped there and almost there and a steal and a turnover Baker turnover and get it to go there It could have been a little bit more physical situation now that is still a nice system count this is electric velocity they want a ten day Lewis speed a second receiver on the press so he's coming to the ball as opposed to getting trapped in that initial sample.
Once he gets rid of it, that takes away your best ball here.
Now they're going to look at the miss and then right back got his best, his hands because a lot of running can't bring that ball below your chest.
And another near turnover this time.
Baker again, she draws the foul.
She's doing it all right now like a bunch of sharks.
Now there's snow in the blood in the water.
They're coming to get them 18 points for Cheryl Bankers is looking for more here for the third her.
He's going to the knockout right now in his third personal on Lauren Henderson with 414 to go on the third 4423 his second linebacker rallies in and out of there is still there day Lewis will accept dealers at the shop at eight get a hand on it.
You can still win the possession game when you have a fight.
You don't have to close out as far as if the armies have it knocked away in the hands of eight.
And how big of post for three off the back of the iron Werner trying to keep it alive gets it in their banks.
Nice pass to Pat is there nice bounce pass into the post he points to Katie Ben fake what a pass by Baker 4623 Back on the other end shot Curry is short of the goal you really don't I mean you need to get at least a good look in a possession It came down and you take the first quick shot after they have a couple of turnovers come down make Jaycee play a little defense square on their legs a little bit because there's a lot of time.
There's 3 minutes to go in this quarter plus a whole nother quarter.
Don't want to come down and get into that rat race going back and forth.
See again, patient blossom, high velocity feint there.
They got both their figures in the ballgame right now.
The shot off the mark to the Twin Towers, only 3 minutes blocked here in the third quarter.
They're going to get him off and they got to go inside the nearly two man game with Neely and day Lewis.
Any chance to had it knocked away into the hands of Crystal Johnson and now Warner time to take two strong and run down there by Joe Lewis Put on the floor Nice pass ahead open basket there.
I'm not saying never run when the situation presents itself.
Yeah, take that opportunity, but don't come down and take the first jumper.
You get into Barnes on the hook.
She's got nine inside the passing game in traffic and the foul 55.
So Mitchell's big lineup is really hurting down there on Andrea Neely.
There you look at the turnover picture by Union County in the points off turnovers so you can't blame that's indicative of the pressure not as good as Lawson and player substitution 16 Nicky A and check again for union if he can give them a little spark here look what's in the three points today he's got around 60% from the free throw line This is on the second Union County was a little tired.
All the girls are having their hands on the shorts.
They lose with enough time being guarded by HIGHTOWER.
Look at inside Neely Nice move in the lane.
Andrea Neely with 11 points now 20 points all game though union trying to cut in that little bit.
The guys is not letting up Baker with the shot Nance he is on believable she's like you know you shoot the ball extremely well and their percentage is high.
That makes up for a lot of woes 20 plus now pass to four on the inbound so they like that they're going to look at Coach Stansell looking on under Turner substitutions once again she elevates well, she shoots today.
She's going up.
She's out of the ballgame now, as you see her over there taking a breather.
That's Turner with 20 points for Baker today.
She's trying to outdo the effort that we saw from Casey Baxter yesterday in the Double-A building.
BLOCK Nice job defensively.
He's just at 36 points yesterday.
And that loss to East Hall, they can miss that and they to look like it was blocked out there.
But the ball nonetheless goes to the Lady Panthers.
Oh, a turnover just like that and then knocked away it was going to stay with gas either by secretary by Dana Barnes try to get that ball back on her foot is on the line.
You can see a double screen and on the inbound followed up as lost of she'll make a move to the hole had it knocked away by Neely good D that's a right Andrea Neely, a six foot senior about once again take it away Nice job by Barnes and Barnes pushing for the third goal and that's good patience And so there you go.
Barnes for three it's they're looking for that quick one you don't they didn't have the numbers for the rebound You pulled it out, made one pass.
So you're going to get that shot any time.
BARNES With a dozen 49 3019 point game.
Look, you see Hightower to Watson the little look Watson Put it up there.
Stop.
Stop it off the bench.
And Lewis will let it go out of bounds.
Discussing a winner A.D trying to keep it in.
That was Ashley Van Ryan over there trying to make a save never rely on the official to give you that ball.
Just go grab the if you can get it early with a 15 and we're going to call a winner for the foul if she just keeps coming at you.
D They don't let up on this relentless specialist Cheryl Baker 20 points right now she's on the bench very physical team time winding down here in the third 23 seconds.
Nice move really laughing about their offense a foul So Watson hits the floor and bothers back over to the lady Spartans have been in control pretty much from the start of things for Jaycee to take the last second shot here in the quarter.
And it's in when he goes about now.
So they've just got to rebound.
It doesn't Miss Watson puts it up she's fouled and will go to the line with 4 seconds on the clock and a big Oh you never going a foul the shooter foul on Gurley that time number 15 right around 60% she's one of them today and this is a little a lot of time for you to come down here and get a shot.
That's George Adams, number 44.
He has checked back in for Union one.
Catch the Shot, and it's there to try to make him catch the ball in the front frontcourt.
He's down the AJC, Lady Sparks, trying to win their first title since 1983.
So they're making a case here.
We'll be right back right after this.
Funding for broadcast of the GHC Boys and Girls Basketball Championships is provided in part by the following You're watching the NCAA Basketball championships on TV is big deal.
Baseball fans gassy at 520 and the opening quarter number four from the May consider flex.
Dave Garner along with CNN's Tom Brady.
All the action at Union County with a work cut out for him here in the last 8 minutes.
But he's done a nice job as they've just given Joanna Day Lewis fits because she's had to bring up the ball maybe 94 feet.
Hopefully there's a screen on the ball.
That's what they need to work that to free her up a little bit where she can run to NANDINI side in this case that has been knocked away by Paige.
She has been big defensively all game maker with the dish and off the fingertips there still go back but look for Union County to run some screen in roles where they can run a two man game plus they can bang it inside to freely clean it up a little inside.
First ever championship game for the Lady Panthers of Union and a hole right now the so now their offensive spacing is better and they lose with it driving baseline has an open you know good offensive spacing spacing and floor balance are the two key things in any offense she's got nine points back to 18 now they just kind of get one stop at a time.
You're going to say to two years he's probably been trying to work out that exactly what they're going to loose depends on how new the offense right here.
They're running the flex themselves is the costume, the costume on the same side and sort of aiming at a little clock and then the shot either at the elbow or trying to get a layup, Campbell, with the ball being pressured up top and Baker brings it back out, I think he's like the human.
Tracy, you never in down.
Just give it to her and let her do her thing lays it up and the foul are you going to she's got the ability to take anybody off the dribble in the gym.
She's so quick and explosive and she can stop on a dime if you look at it one more time.
Great crossover, 21 seconds.
She's got real nice body control and I all day Lewis for that last foul That's her second 17,000 on final round Oh no turnover That's something that they can make her be the second receiver where she wouldn't have to mess with that first trap and throw it in again to the side and then have her come to the middle and take it.
And now she's going to be ahead of the defense.
You're going to have an advantage numbers wise is leaning down on one side, eight post enough to sort of follow and walk over the foul line.
It's awful nice luxury looking over Jerry on the trailer and Watson down those.
And there it is.
Where are you down that's 18 fouls now on the Lady Panthers sir at the line right now is six foot senior This is on the court right around 60% from the line this year one and Lauren Henderson that stepped back in for union so 9.0.
Nice job with that chance.
The first man stops the ball, the second guy closes the door.
Stupid job.
And Baker.
Baker will inbound this time she's got Campbell.
He's a double cross.
It's an instant, Campbell.
And the way he got in trouble kicks back out.
She really looks to score to go look at the turnover picture.
Once again, 25 to 10.
That's a killer.
That is a well shot by Baker.
Unbelievable.
Looking for the foul there but she got the bucket and now Dana Barnes on the other end tries to answer She's short and he takes it right out of there.
35 points for Cheryl Baker, minus 6 minutes to play in the double state championship.
She's like a coach on the floor.
They're Going to pull it out a little bit.
Oh, Baker lost that time, but got it back.
And look at that with it.
Look at inside.
You got to kind of force the issue a little bit on these guys offensively picks up the shot, draws the foul so he will be at the line now and a timeout by the lady Panthers of Union County GMC all over the place right now ladies 56 to 32 and I'll tell you what they've done an excellent job of keeping Union County in their places run of the floor well right now getting some good looks and some good ball movement very patient working it inside to get the shots they want you right day Exactly right.
I'm still trying you to said they got the ball on the ten you you and you ran to the basket 23 had the ball by herself.
We can see that winning step back you don't get the open look right now Julio look.
I love it.
Never stop.
Teachers never stop teaching.
That's great.
But you think, by the way, he was coaching, they were down 56 to 32 right now.
Instead of on top of that same coach and all the way to the winning start.
Now, that hasn't gotten any Johnny coach stance in the course of her third season doing an excellent job this year for the Lady Panthers She's fantastic did knock off the defending champ Randolph play in the semifinals.
She is fantastic.
What if she had said a gutty move in the fourth quarter?
She went to a man to man and two possessions and swung the tide of that games, got a gutty gutty move.
534 to go.
And after the tie, Oh, it's Lauren Eaton at the line, 60% from the line this year with ten points a ballgame.
And this is on the first one.
She's got five on the afternoon.
That's against the you go now she just the second receiver on that pass at that time Barnes thought about the outside shot out there Lewis puts it up won't go and once again he's not there for it.
I'll tell you what I want a second chance.
Opportunities for the lady.
Fans of the Twin Towers for Gassy definitely did a good job of cleaning the glass.
Plus, you have Baker who can come in there and rebound with any of them through the selections across screen.
Now here comes the downstream and that one stolen away by Lewis with the open bucket defense there by day Lewis if you can stop the reversal of that pass the offense fills the stall on one side of the floor.
Just don't let him reverse the ball from elbow to elbow.
It puts you in that meat grinder.
What's taking you to It looks like there is there's less inside.
That's.
And so he's the bucket.
He's got to jump to the ball and step to the basket.
Nice job by Eaton that time Neely with an out with top tries to push inside underneath the goal baseline but a foul ball and little bit of discussion on that one because Rosaria thought she had all the ball there.
Well I love the way Union County keeps fight They keep coming at you.
She looks like she's having fun out there.
Zero.
This was all smiles as should be her team up 5934 11 make it 12 and some substitutions now Warner back in the ballgame.
They're number 15.
Callahan Number ten, checking in Julie Warner 153 junior down Neely's numbers off the mark that time Decker back and running Bliss is ahead in the open shot off the mark But Baker once again with a quick hand you just can't go to sleep when she's around.
You take the three.
What's it on the follow?
Oh, yes, it's still loose ball.
Finally, Callahan puts it home.
Nice balance, Callahan, with her first bucket of the afternoon and it widens the gaps and another steal.
Anytime you're in a trap, you can't throw over the top of it like that.
You've got to step through it.
Or you can attack one guy if you try to just lob it over the top.
The players today are too good.
They're going to tip it.
Callahan kept it alive over there, but into the hands of the Lady Panthers.
Oh, wow.
Again against that trap.
If you just try to floated above the trap, they're going to get a hand on it deflected and then it's going back the other way.
Try a step through it first.
And if you can't do that but pick one man, the outside guys step across his feet and get to his hips and make the pass here.
Look at the fans applauding the efforts of Cheryl Baker and the Lady Spartans.
She will take a breather, Taylor Hightower into the ballgame.
And Lewis does a nice job of using her body to shield the ball.
Nice pass.
Oh, Georgia Adams open.
Oh, Can't get it to go follow by Neal is not there either third chance and that is going to be out and last touched by Jaycee there's still battle no you got to love that Yeah not kicked out Keisha's step and has come in for Union County She will inbound onside shot off the back of the iron by Neely Jesse out of there with a momentarily Adams comes in with over again now their floor balance isn't as clean as it was earlier in the quarter is a little tight going Henderson looking to get rid of it does so today.
Lewis Oh got it on her knee there they're going to it for the travel tough break there.
It looks like she's trying to get rid of it kind of indecisive there and after that, well, again that was due to that.
The floor bounced in space and everyone got all clogged up in there.
So she had nowhere to go.
305 remaining in the girls state championship, Greater Atlanta, Christian Norcross trying to take home the title again, Gassy here is trying to run a little continuity with the flex 80 eat up some clock and try to get either a elbow jumper or the layup down low.
It's Mike Mitchell over there on the side.
Hey Panther basketball 254 to play it was with enough to screen on the ball Anderson Nice pass nice cut Oh to four out there they listen try to take the shot gets it to go tough shot but she got it She never won a stand is an offensive player always create an angle off the move Just four things you can do one diagonal back to the basket to screen away, spot up three speed on the ball for pass cut replace herself Callahan on the drive baseline don't go the follow those there but she pressure and Baker's ability to take anybody off the dribble and she in rebounding is spend the tail here Ashley being right on that last back and there is a three so a big shot from A.J.
Lewis knocking it down that great greens need to go out here under 2 minutes to go and the Lady Spartans can feel it now hand with it.
Oh look inside He walks it knocked away there but and Ron keeps it alive.
I will go over there.
Now, this is a great gesture by these two coaches, this first class all in an all out.
They're bringing in a whole slew of new kids.
Didn't experience what it's like to play in the state tournament.
That's a real nice gesture process.
Yellow Panther entered the ball game for Union County, along with Sallie Patterson.
Ellie Hughes in their daddy's cancer and of their ball loose on the floor jump ball And they're going to look at a very dejected Union County Lady Panther bench.
But I'll tell you what no reason.
No, they can't hold their heads up.
No, no, no.
Sit on.
And they're going to look at the opposite end of things.
USC looking for their first championship since 1983, and they're well on their way.
Both these programs are outstanding, Campbell, missing that last bucket.
Union County with it that is Kelly Hughes.
The five five freshman end of the ballgame.
What an opportunity for a freshman to play in the state championship game, something you'll never forget.
Not at all.
I mean, she's playing in front of 3000 plus people here and the place is going bananas.
It's just a great, great experience.
CAMPBELL Checking out now for Gassy and again, Union County has the weapons to get back into this game next year.
There's a shot off the mark, won't go over younger players on the Lady Panthers roster and also for Gassy a lot of sophomores and juniors in there as well.
Two teams that could very well be back here next year.
Amanda to mercy number 25 of gassy in the game lost the handle on that last one No she's another freshman five foot ten.
No.
As a coach at this time at the end of the ballgame, whether it's a state championship or a regular season game, when you put your reserves in, you don't want to see basically your offense helter skelter.
You want to see some form of what you do in practice and supply planning for the efforts of Taylor Callahan, who just checked out playing right down to the wire.
40 seconds left, shot to be short that time and off the fingertips of Krista Baylor Ball goes back over 63 to 40 though greater Atlanta Christian, the Lady Spartans coached by Mike Mitchell.
They're going to take home the championship big after today.
Cheryl Baker 25 points and she was outstanding outstanding gets out of bounds that time kept it alive but the final 20 seconds rolling off the clock here.
It's a make it center flex and the shot from three point range off the mark follow off Gilbert a foul and Baylor does hustle I love her to death he's always coming Mr. Baylor five six freshmen getting the start today she's played some quality minutes averaging right around five points a ballgame right now she's at the line trying to close things out.
She's always coming right at you.
Baylor on the board now around 60% from the line.
Spartans fans are on their feet.
Second rolls out of there and USC pushing for the final 8 seconds Oh look and player there but too strong They were looking for Hightower finally got whacked in the back of the head there accidentally.
No blood, no foul.
Dave, 4 seconds on the clock.
Union County will play for the final shot, but it's not going to matter much and Tom's going to run out.
And there you have it.
See the Lady Spartans?
You're 22,001 double a girls state basketball champions, and the celebration begins.
So you got to love that.
It was always fun working with you and everyone here at TV, and I've enjoyed the experience again.
That's always a pleasure.
Lady Spartans coach Bobby Mitchell Bittersweet, though, for coach Dana Davis, cancer stricken coach who was represented today.
Davis again on the arms of all the players, an emotional state championship.
Nonetheless for the Spartans.
I throw it down to Danielle Coats.
This is your first state title in nearly 20 years for to tell me how you feel.
All right.
It feels great to be a part of this.
I came over here my first year and I knew they had a great team coming back.
The coaches themes and Davis in the past have really built this team and these girls just bloomed year and a lot of talent out there and they've played well together.
It's very exciting to be a part of this.
The last time you faced Union County, they took you to overtime.
Were you surprised with today's margin of victory?
Yes, I really was.
It was early in the year and both teams, it was their first game of the year and they played very well.
And and I thought we played pretty well, too up there.
And I was very concerned about their inside play today and their three point shooters, too.
And we got off to a good start that helped us relax and we kept the intensity up tonight.
Yeah, our kids played great, but give Union County a lot of credit too.
They never quit their tough look.
Congratulations.
Back to you guys.
All.
Rachel, thanks for the update there and the rundown.
There you have it.
GSC the Spartans with the championship trophy.
