It is the Double-A girls basketball championship region rivals the Wesleyan Lady Wolves at 26 and seven against the Spartans of Greater China.
Christian coming in top ranked for the record of 31 and one final.
Good afternoon, everybody.
Welcome to making the center of attention, the center of the state of Georgia, the center of the basketball universe for the entire Saturday that you watching right here on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Good afternoon.
I am Jon Nelson.
I will be with you here the rest of the way.
And what you have here with this particular ball game.
Two teams separated by an eight mile drive.
They play each other two, three, sometimes like last year, four times this season.
And they're always games that you want to circle on your calendar when it comes to great matchups, when it comes to basketball.
In the state of Georgia, Janney's aunt, the head coach of the Lady Wolves of Wesleyan ten and one when it comes to Final Fours, Greater Atlanta Christian Mike Mitchell going for a championship themselves.
Let's send it downstairs so the guys will call the game.
Dick Williams along with Dave Gardner guys.
All righty.
Thank you, John.
And here is a guy that many may remember and recognize from the Georgia game, but what a lot of people may not know about Dick Williams is that he's a long time high school basketball referee.
So we're looking forward to your input today and teaching us some X's and O's.
Well, Dave, it's just going to be a pleasure to be at this side of the microphone and and not being second guessed when I'm running up and down the court.
There you go.
Take a look at the match up here today.
Of course, Wesleyan legacy, two schools very familiar with each other.
They've got some great players.
It starts with Armstrong.
Yes.
And Mary Armstrong looks like she's kind of a one man band for Wesleyan.
She averages 19.3 points, 6.7 rebounds.
But late in the postseason, they've been developing some other offensive weapons to complement Armstrong.
And we'll talk about that as the game goes along.
They've got a very strong starting five, as you see there.
Aaron Hall, the freshman, Kelly Hall, the senior, of course, Armstrong, Michelle Pope and Sarah Dell, two big players inside for the Lady Wolves who again, are looking for their fourth straight state title here in four final appearances.
Unbelievable run for coach Dan ISR and Wesleyan.
Now, meanwhile, GSC, of course, the Lady Spartans, they come in loaded this year tables are turned a little bit.
They come in this year.
Duke as the number one team.
Yes, indeed.
These two play in the toughest region in the state and the toughest subregion in the state.
If you look at that, I mean, Avondale was last year's triple state champion.
And they're not here.
It's it's the Lady Wolves in the Lady Spartans.
And GMC has a great basketball tradition.
This young lady, Ginny Daniels, is is the latest representative of she's the leading scorer, the leading rebounder and the leading steel maker on this on this team.
She'll be the one that Wesleyan will try to shut down.
But it's going to be more difficult than that because Gassy has a very balanced starting lineup with the scoring Swan, Smith, Hilliard, Stevens, Daniels and Curry.
Next the starting five for Agassi and they are very talented.
It is going to be a great matchup Let's go ahead throw it down to the floor for today's introductions.
Mr. Addy Ashley joining us Courtside girl state championship.
This afternoon's game we'll have the Wesleyan Lady Wolves with a record of 26 and seven dressed in black as your visitors on the scoreboard and the greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans with a record of 31 and one dressed in white as your home team.
May I have your attention for the starting lineups?
First for Wesleyan at Guard number two, a five foot eight freshman Aaron O at guard number five, a five foot five senior Kelly at forward number three, a six foot one sophomore.
And Marie Armstrong at center number 32, a six foot one senior Sarah Del.
And at forward number 55, a six foot senior, Michelle Pope and Wesleyan is head coach Jan Azar.
And now for greater Atlanta Christian head guard number 35 foot four, senior Bria Smith at four over 21, a five foot eight senior Danny Daniel, head guard, number 15, a five foot seven senior Kiara Swann.
Yay At forward number 12, a five foot ten senior Chris Mix.
At forward number ten, a five foot ten senior Julio Steve on and Greater Atlanta Christian's head coach Mike Mitchell and Wesleyan going at it in the Double-A girls state championship.
I'll step aside be right back with the tip live from the Macon Cineplex when we return in Let's get started.

Plenty of storylines playing out today in the championship.
John Nelson joins us with one right now.
Thank you, Dave.
No team has won four straight championships in girls basketball since Hart County did it from 89 to 94.
Wesleyan has that chance today, but this will be the sternest test.
For those of you that believe that the waiting lady wolves are forming a dynasty across the board, Anne Marie Armstrong at 62 Runs Point, but she's also going to have to do some post so you'll see some inexperienced freshmen running the point they've gotten that experience in the last month.
No player, over six foot four, greater Atlanta Christian, that's going to be their challenge.
But everything goes through tonight.
Daniels and D.A.
David Dick, as much as I tried, I could not find a bow tie to save my life.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Look forward to talking to you throughout the day there.
Yeah, you're looking good there.
You just couldn't quite find one more.
We are underway here.
Double-A girls State championship.
Two teams very familiar with each other.
Dick's fourth meeting of the year between these two last year, of course, Wesleyan sweeping the all four games, basically gassy, taking the first three here and for their sake hopefully a state championship tonight.
But it'll be interesting right up to now.
This has been Garcia's year with Wesleyan.
They've had a they've had their way with Wesleyan all season three meetings.
But when you get to this start to this point in the season, the final games, all bets are off.
I noticed, by the way, that the wrestling girls have, as they were in their final huddle with loose and laughing and middle coaches are on these teams that this team is overseeing today from the graduates and also the black students are some of the large mike Mix, on the other hand, was able to be there in that final time out.
Both teams, again, as you mentioned, very familiar with one another's schools just miles apart here, of course, a rematch of last year's championship that saw Isaiah mark out there by number ten of the year.
STEPHENS Again, the senior date, I think the question is, can wrestling use their size that John mentioned that definitely got Sarah Delp number 32 there on the poster she's six one.
She's going to get to Brown University and play basketball and she can be a force inside against the smaller teams girls.
Plus they might have a chance in this matchup though, as we know, Jesse is number one and two this games over last fall committed by Danny Daniels of Greater Atlanta Christian Wesleyan with the basketball That's Kelly Hall number five with it trying to toss it in there too and Marie Armstrong, who we focused on in the pre game.
She's certainly going to be a very important part of what the lady Wolves accomplished, especially inside this.
It mentioned about Amory Armstrong girl that she was a key player on that the state championship volleyball team.
I actually was somewhat startled to see those three highly competitive sports at this level of super put a second state championship in her quiver after that.
A lot of parallels between the two kinds of athletes you look at after a fight, you look at a jumping ability.
Yep.
And you look for that long to see with the in her case, the thunder snap down a volleyball or shoot up on the basketball that were knocked away right there and take it away of course to see the number one team and coming in the seven runner up to this same wrestling team right here.
Seven titles, though, for Gassy.
They've certainly built a nice tradition.
It's just the game today between these two is unusual.
We saw it last year, but the play such evil days away from the NCAA.
So these two of big rivals and so this the at the start of this game the crowd is quiet somewhat stretched by another game that preceded it.
And we'll see if we can get the emotional level up a little bit for Knicks missing on one of cardiac Wesley and hitting right there.
And number two, Erin Hall with her first points of the day, the five freshmen in the starting lineup, I think it says a lot to Coach Azar to go with the freshman with all this experience that she really helps to balance out their offensive attack and their own toughness alone on the boards, the shots from the corner ends up that move on.
I said, Well, I'm sure it was her older sister, Sarah.
Go right there.
With the rebound dunk at 20 points in last year's state championship matchup right here inside the Macon Cineplex.
She's looking for another big afternoon today.
We'll see.
Now it looks like man to man all the way for Geo saying they're going to work on strong right to the post and Armstrong off the glass with a good look at tough shot right there has their first two So right now the size of one for Earl Daniels on the size advantage that wrestling has is working in their favor.
Deac averaging 66 points a game offensively big block there by Armstrong that you saw the follow wouldn't quite go today Daniels tried to put it up there wouldn't go and that one out of bounds in the last toss off the arrow it looks like a free dance.
They're going to look at Coach Dan Azar's 10th season at Wesleyan.
She started the program back in 97.
And you see her impressive record right there, too, 31 to 63.
That's part of the series.
And it's amazing.
This is the 10th season for wrestling.
This is their sixth trip to make a thing that's just unparalleled.
Mike Mitchell in his seventh season at GHC has been equally tough.
Of course, had a lot of success out of state before coming to Georgia.
He has certainly been very successful and there's a big bucket right there by Aaron High.
He's really smart.
That offensive.
Early yesterday, Mike Archer came more from Alabama.
He's a great coach that year after the his is tested in and he fits right into the great tradition of basketball accuracy of the teams.
A couple of years ago Cheryl Baker went to Georgia now plays in the WNBA one year missing that last drive for the lady Spartans the Wesleyan out to a62 run here to start the game with almost 4 minutes off the clock here in this opening period.
And a near steal right there Good hustle fiber Yeah Smith is really one of the scrappier players on that roster.
He seems to be using Amari Armstrong as almost like a point forward.
If she's got the opportunity at high to take it down, as she did with that basket from the left side find.
Otherwise she's rotating around and they're looking for it on the baseline for her size.
That's a big advantage to it, right?
Armstrong really got a hand on that last one right there.
Again, number 33, Cheney means the a freshman in the lineup for Coach Mitchell and gassy Wesleyan playing what looks to be a32 zone to be a23.
And that's unusual.
They mostly play man to man inside to Daniels up and in and the lady Spartans are on the board found that scene right on the back side of the zone defense going away and right back to Vasey You know you were talking about all the great athletes that have moved on.
Of course, Sherill Baker, you're talking about, of Georgia Leyland with Sir, of course, to Wesleyan.
Right.
They're headed to Bucknell.
We'll go ahead, step aside, take a timeout.
331 left in the opening period, six two Wesleyan leads it.
Funding for this program is provided by the Georgia High School Association.
The NCAA would like to thank Dodge for their outstanding support of high school sports programing on GPB.
Dodge dealerships across Georgia are proud to bring you the exciting action of GHC Championship basketball as the official vehicle of the GHC dodge salute to the hard work communities spirit and the dedication of these two fine teams.
Thanks for tuning into GPB and please enjoy the rest of the game.
Dodge grabbed life by the horns, offering to throw.
There you see Coach Mike Mitchell of the GHC Lady Spartans, his team 31 and one and ranked number one in the state.
They trailed by four Go to Wesleyan.
Here were 331 left in the opening period.
They've garnered it Williams with you John Nelson courtside along with the rest of the GPB television crew game three of the day.
Of course, the first Double-A game of the day for this Bulls action.
Coming up a little bit later on, Dizzy and Wesley, two familiar opponents meeting for the first time this year, this time for the state championship.
And again, I'll say it in that test result, it seems to be confusing, guys just a little bit, but it does play to the strengths of West Ham's two bigger goals Down low leads off the back of a three.
The follow off the glass wouldn't go kept alive though, by the Lady Spartans deal.
Smith with a down on the baseline we're going to look at Smith again a55 senior as we take a look at that last sequence the holding foul down there on the baseline a service to the ball shot taken off the mark here Good job there by Daniels he just didn't quite get to a finish who had the position that couldn't make it ten in the second look yes see have like that outside shooting but that touches on forcing the U.S. catch that I don't think coach Mike Mitchell would necessarily make his first preference Thursday in arguing the case there was a foul was here but they're not going to get the ball right there.
Turnover GHC basketball if he can penetrate into those two balls and Murray Armstrong with the ball, watch that at home.
That's the height advantage so far as looking for less than half of Jason.
It's not a huge one, but it's working.
See today for Wesley will be the rebounding and the pressure defense of the GHC.
They've got a lot of weapons, but they're also going to have to really force the basketball defensively as well against this and get and award right there.
Counter good looking shot by Briana Jordan, the freshman third May five five freshman averaging almost six points a game this year as the first two weeks back to a two point game and a chance to bring him right back in here I think the three point play so it was six three to start it out now six five and the Lady Spartans back at it now Phenix coming in for the Spartans nursing major step but I'm surprised that's the first.
So this new little trapping force that he's run, maybe that's what coach makes a way to put in one time out.
Doesn't matter.
And back to you to see you talk about the substitutions doing that.
The L.A. Sparks have a very good piece, a lot of depth on this in this team for the start five seniors and they bring a lot of younger players in and out of the game, which is, of course, a way to get them to increase the pressure, but not when they go to the bench.
Molly McSorley knocking down the bucket right there and a steal back up.
That's all I have to do.
The mighty seven would be fine for now.
Let's go inside here again.
Here we've got substitution pattern that we're talking about, but there's also that little stack of press, that picture you see.
It's Lester who can handle all the things that get the whole day at home on the two and Kelly one on the side, the freshman.
You see you should be able to should be able to work against the GMC press fast foul committed by Armstrong who was there for his team third on the way he wants to do this first period under 2 minutes to play here you can look at Coach Mitchell seven years at USC.
They won the state title back in to try to add he was eight here today three point shot on the way off the by five all good hustle though by Armstrong and gets on the line and still pushing foul on number 33 for Jesse Chaney means yep for the referee and he picks those up real yeah you're used to that right You you know that's one thing we always see it from a fans point of view, but we don't always see it from the officials.
And I don't think you could pay me to be a fool.
So I really admire you.
That's the truth.
Screaming fans.
No one's going to lie to you no matter what their voice.
Again, Armstrong trying to penetrate in kind of a wide shot.
He hit off balance there on the right hand side, Taylor Kennedy in the lineup that shot off the mark by Dell.
Again, just averaging almost 13 points a game to a six point senior.
And right back to the Lady Spartans.
You just had some nice options as she looked at college, intrigued by teams in the Patriot League, in the Ivy League, and she settled on Brown University called Providence, Rhode Island.
The fall shot of those coaches, James, are of course, the head coach.
The Wesleyan has had a lot of success on Get down There.
Did you see the Lady Spartans run right here?
Seven In the last 3 minutes and 12 seconds, they have really battled their way back since they were down six.
Nothing to start the game.
And it began this run began, of course, and they went to that.
Add to that to a full court press on the NBA.
Now they're using their results to light it up a little bit.
Miley Mitchell with his second bucket here in this first period and number 20 and Molly Mitchell with that shot coming right up, nine straight by the Lady Spartans after Wesley came out of the gate on fire and it's nine six under 30 seconds to play opening quarter CHEERING.
She also seems to be extending their man to man defense on a little bit further, reducing the angles the first touch players to the basket now jump ball Paul still on the floor for the lady wolves possession stays with Wesley and you see Dell grimacing a little bit of pain I'm not sure if she landed Fraser there may have twisted an ankle or something.
You always hate to see them.
Well, especially for Western, which is so dependent on scoring with two players and Mary Armstrong and Sarah Dell because there has had some some ankle problems in the past.
And so if she hasn't aggravated that, but, you know, they're getting 31 points a game from two players, right.
In a game where you're going to score the way this pace is going and score maybe 50 points, they can't afford to lose it.
So it out and we'll see if she's able to to continue.
GSC of course, relies on going 1011 deep right and and even their highest scorer whom we spotlighted tonight Daniels only averages 14 points three and they've only they have no one else in double figures they spread it all around the serve for dame and then who shows up tonight makes a couple doubt very balanced there you see Dell's making her way back to the bench a little shaken up but appears to be okay.
She comes off on her own power.
That's a good sign for Wesley, I would say a shot in the snow.
Just a guess.
I think she never took another nurse.
But I'm not the team physician.
And leave that to him, So 16 seconds left, right here in the opening period in the only lost three game season here, get south one out of the Deep South Classic final.
And of course, after that point in the five eight championship game last night against Collins here all alone to look like Kelly has put this on the line there.
Well, we'll see now if Jose can make something happen here in the closing seconds of the first quarter.
Lady Spartans with the last shot here, possibly no taken away by Kennedy.
And that will do it.
So an action packed first quarter here inside to make it center blitz.
Now, we got a good one, low scoring, but a good game, a three point game in favor of gassy.
Let's take a timeout and be back here for former number two.

These sports and activities enrich educational experiences on behalf of Verizon Wireless in the GHC, Thank you for your support.
This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station back here inside the Make It Center Place live on GPB, Dave Bronner, Dick Williams with you.
John Nelson Courtside GHC leads at nine six after the first period as we get set for period number two and a date, the very action packed first quarter, not a lot of skill level, but both teams clearly up and down the floor like feeling each other out, trying to figure out what they're going to do with is showing a little bit of pressure to mirror that score.
Wesley Using the spread offense to try and get Amari Armstrong to the basket, by the way.
So duck back in for Russell.
So whatever happened to getting serious?
And I think you're right.
I think you got to took a shot in the face there but she's just again Wilson staying in the zone which is unusual for them but off the mark by the looks of D.C. in back seat as long ago as the second all Gwinnett County girls final of the week.
And of course last night South Gwinnett College still going at it in Duluth, not the arena Gwinnett Center, of course, today.
These two teams right here not very far apart, I'm sure about fouled as she obtained that rebound.
But that's the GSC pressure and that's what Jason has got to do here.
There's pressure on Wesley and Bobby Armstrong to bring it across again.
She really does it all at six foot two.
It's hard to throw anybody at her defensively because you keep bring a guard out there.
She's got the height advantage, but she can also play inside and there she was right there, post it up and ready, shot from outside.
It went by going for Aaron Paul dropped down nicely by Tony Daniels.
Daniels running the other way and had it taken away by Armstrong Presley.
Want to run a little bit?
That's Kennedy.
Great.
Look underneath wide open.
Armstrong couldn't get the shot to go.
The foul was off the mark.
And Daniels brings it down again.
That's the dunk of mistakes.
He was a fake Bronco.
Mercer got that easy ball one year will bring it out right here and work it for the lady Spartans in a quarterfinalist a no for five that shot off the Mark Wooden Blanco there and picked up by Finnerty on the other end.
Wesley, quickly there the Duke steps in front three to Smith defensively ball loose goes on the floor and found it to be problems could have jumped something Yeah that's that's good hustle served out to dive for that ball forcing the GHC player to dive on top of her and that's a foul this year That's a foul in any year, but it's a point of emphasis this year.
You see the hustle right there.
Absolutely.
And the foul is on Bria Smithson, which is they're going to look at Sarah Delle because we talked about a big championship game last year against USC.
She's looking forward to another one today.
Still the three point game though, nine six no scoring inside the first minute 45 of the second period and nearly a chance to a three point play Armstrong couldn't quite get the shot to go look she will go to the line if she sees the former star was not given the opportunity to drive from the top of the game just circling around to her.
Right.
And good things are happening on the line there for her to get some fast.
You missed the first one, fouled on the second, but points are going on the board.
Three for two right there for Amari Armstrong the 60 sophomore second foul meanwhile on Danny Daniels nine eight advantage Wesley back within a point inside Daniels with the position there momentarily Armstrong came down on her and that's Armstrong second foul That could be an issue at some point for West Virginia in this first half.
I wonder if James wants to have to be in there to get it.
For the first time since the offensive seems so dependent on her from what we've seen so far.
The same thing with Coach Mitchell right now.
Anthony Daniels picking up her second foul action.
She's the only player that averages in double figures right now.
That's that off the market may have been tip and Wesley quickly back the other way but these teams can run pressure defense they run it and now this time it's turning into a track later this first half shot up off the mark wouldn't go by slam was it Will She wants to catch the ball in that situation because they are somewhat stymied even with the lead.
There's so much time in the last two scoring game by this zone defense of West End to being forced to take terrible shots.
But you have to kind of good shots you want by that zone defense nearly knocked away right there up underneath open look for Aaron Horford and put it down and go out of there by the Lady Spartans predict that it saying he needs an outside shot wouldn't know course miss and as you suggest a jazz just in doing a good job on the bulls using their size that time said that wasn't a must have missed I think at this point five last we're going to look at Molly Mitchell who had four points in that first quarter, and that is going to be three fouls on ten eight and that that could be a game changing foul, I think certainly changes the complaints from a little bit into Coach Mitchell here in the first half.
Absolutely.
I doubt we'll see her back in the first half.
And I wonder now, I doubt coaches are wrestling with taking away Armstrong.
That money will leave her in there to find scores and points at taking the lead if they can quickly in good luck underneath inside there and haul all of six points here in the first half.
An excellent thing has been done in the postseason tonight.
Hall adding offensive firepower to the western side.
Three point shot for Smith off the market over the backboard and Aron Hall has had to play because her fans with Kelly Hall the senior has been quite ill much of the season and face in fact since the surgery after the season.
So that's allowed Aaron to develop as an offensive threat.
I don't think this is the same Wesleyan team we're seeing here today that they lost seven games during the regular season.
Granted, a lot of that was DRC, but this team is really kind of came together with the emergence of the press with a steal right here by Brianna Jorgensen knocked away from behind out of bounds it will stay with you see that move nice hustle from the lady that does a fantastic defensive play by Sarah dance hustling down, slopping that ball out and not fouling on the play.
It was a terrific piece of defense for this step.
Michelle, take number 55.
This is the lineup for Wesleyan member to earn high will take the seat so the Jays are going with a little bit bigger lineup right here And again they seem to be dominating the boards especially here defense the board shot put up and the World Series low which a running back to be a three that's the forcing the referee here doubt that was having none of it still more poise for the lady Spartans on a little bit of a run right here as they tighten up defensively out of bounds and let's stay with Wesleyan but Duke back up three at 1310 and we notice that so many of these points have come out to the little success, which doesn't look all that tight down there, but they're getting it done and that's their full time out on the floor.
Will step aside.
Rhythm for 22 to play 1310 Gassy.
We're back in a moment.
Funding for this program is provided by the Georgia High School Association.
The GHC would like to thank State Farm for the outstanding support of high school sports programing on GPB.

State Farm is their saying.
As our head coach of Wesleyan four and one on Georgia Public Broadcasting is a state finalist, She certainly had some success there, as have her Lady Wars.
Of course, winners of the last three state championships also won in 2002.
That took a year off in three either.
Meanwhile, Coach Mitchell and the already Spartans, of course, trying to avenge last year's loss in the state finals to Wesleyan, since they wanted in one and two.
She is such a great program.
They're looking for their eighth state title.
That's just a wonderful accomplishment to go back to Sandy Brogdon, the Tennessee great and played at USC and she put up the first of those state titles just to score more than she was a silver medalist.
Be with absolutely absolute teaching at the Centennial High School.
Meanwhile, defense continues to be the theme here between these two teams in this Double-A girls state championship.
Great move with the left hand right.
They just looking quite good.
We're seeing a lot of them big role in and out here.
But what we're seeing is that one is getting better shots at that one right there by Henry Armstrong.
But most of them haven't been dropping.
They've missed several out here.
She is getting lesser quality shots, but they've got the lead, Armstrong, with six points here to start the warm up senior involved in the offense for Wesley in those two with six apiece you might see with a one point lead right here is got from three different ladies partners and that's typical of their style of play And it comes another substitution.
This time it is for Will Smith, Ben Smith, back to respond.
They will go out and take a breather right here with 339 to play in the first half.
And one thing to look for when he fires back he is Schuster to the sense of class will take away and points for free next the five senior again is on his own staff trust Wesley he was able to put the ball back in the hands of Amari Armstrong.
We'll see if she tries to penetrate or she runs what we're going to call the triple.
Rodgers going down and posting up inside and the foul going to be called on needs the second one so this must be an offense for Armstrong virtually every possession know I don't think she's the first option every time on occasion and she's at the line right now missing on the first in a62 sophomore is going to be around a couple more years and this is both free throws right third down ABC with the basketball baby Spartans with a three point lead, 3 minutes left in the first half and a good looking side five Breanna drawing.
She's got seven.
That was a nice pass.
No able to pull it up You see the take away right here needs it that way and wrestling immediately past time you can't make those kind of mistakes begins to fall 30 seconds Time out by coach Jane Hayes are in the Lady Wolves and they will talk it over right here you see with a little bit of a spurt.
Remember they trailed in this game six nothing out of the gate but have since rebounded and they lead it 19 to 12 with 543 left to play, 249 left to play here in the second quarter.
Quite a turnaround indeed here in the first half.
But it's all ifs and buts for candy and nuts.
We don't have a great but I keep thinking about those four or five layups that West Wing missed.
The game could be a different story here.
Had some of those dropped that looked to me like jitters.
A couple of those balls were way wide of the mark or weren't were not going to go in from the moment they left their hands over to pressure Wesley.
They quickly across mid force they had a two on one they're momentarily Lady Spartans back defensively shot wouldn't go and the foul was there for Michelle Pope who has her first two both a six foot senior.
Again the big front line is going to work the West end was here.
She's now foul on the floor.
They bounce and that's a juicy chance she is now trying to two instead of shoot from the corners inside they're trying to control the paint and get some better shots in there.
And so far they're succeeding.
Breakaway Wilson Aaron Hart all alone lays it in and the assist to hit cousin Kelly Hart Aaron with eight points here in the first half looking inside and the shot and the role for Molly Mitchell how about Mitchell She's on average about four points per game.
She's already got six here.
The still time in the Canadian.
Those are on the bench.
It's such good news for Jessie that she's able to pick it up.
Wesley's averaging 61 points a game offensively there was two more right there as Armstrong dishes and Del Sol dumps the turf the rest dumpsters to the half since he's averaging right around 16 on the year but he was listed for Armstrong had a good look at it the defense came to Armstrong's with just two to go but he's doing the same thing to penetrate those two orders, also to attempt to penetrate the zone.
And as I said, I watched him going line against 17 fouls early, a one on one right here the DSC offensively averaging 66 only allowing 37 Wesley in 61.
As we talk about offensively allowing 41 so both teams as much as we think of them offensively really they've got a Denver defense all year long so absolutely we're not seeing much of outside shooting at all in this game from either side.
Seeing Armstrong penetrate will see some tape as they get their shots on the other end offensive foul on various good Dallas DDT fouls on Smith after Smith went in good position the body forward knock down Collins so hostile calls it a nice down there really seven feet absolutely up another another turnover these two first thoughts about the fourth one so we talk about the four turnovers off the chest and you talk about the seven more stops, especially in the first quarter.
And yes, he has a three point lead and just say that, yes, he's on the bench as a result of the shooting.
So thank you all for being really impressed at the two freshman year, Mark Wesley and Green and for the vehicle.
This thing is very active here the first time and a lot of lot of pressure.
That's what, 14 and 15 years old trying to take fire and that will go in front of a big audience, get four out of hand here today.
We've already seen two great games play out.
This is shaping up to be another one right here, just to no other reason in the nature of the rivalry.
Smith pulls the trigger.
Yes, her foot was on the line, though.
So long.
Three point shot for Bria Smith, 2318 under a minute to go, three point shot on the other end.
Ball is off the mark.
Kept alive though by the south coast NASCAR hall shot monster on from outside wouldn't go Can't take it down by Gordon 32 seconds left 2318 Lady Spartans with really the largest lead of the game that three point shot versus Smith and with the way by Eric Hall and in front of Rush and another turnover drive and on the ball in transition and you see coach I heard something say about that at halftime and I think that's missing I wonder about that last shot is that the right shot with the clock running down?
Could they have waited for something a little better?
So we talked about these two leading three times this season, already Gassy, won all three of those matchups twice by double figures.
But the way this thing is shaping up, I don't know.
I would expect to go right down to the buzzer today.
I do.
And I did it three point shot from way out there.
That one off field side of the backboard there.
We really didn't get a good look at Angelica Wilcox.
Now a pull up by hall wouldn't go anything back the other way.
4 seconds less time winding down, just trying to get a shot off the wall there.
So an action packed first half of high school basketball comes to an end here inside the making center place for the D.O.C., leading at 23 to 8 seed over their rival, Wesley in the fourth meeting of the year between the two.
Let's go ahead and throw it down courtside to John Nelson.
Standing by with Coach Mitchell here with the coach.
Talk about that first six points that you were down.
You came back immediately after that and you've taken control ever since.
Well, I don't know if we're taking control where we're ahead right now, but we're not playing very good basketball now.
This team doesn't panic.
You made some easy shots and gave them some back.
And you know, it looks like both teams are kind of tied out there and trying to still work around some things, but hopefully will settle down a little in the second half and play better basketball.
And the press seems to be working for you to create a lot of turnovers, something that Wesleyan, we're not used to seeing with them, committing a lot of turnovers and a half.
Well, that's true.
And you know, some of my things pressure on that we're putting on some fake just threw a couple of passes away to help us out but we've got to cash in on.
All right.
Thanks for your time, coach.
Good luck in the second half.
Mike Mitchell is up by five, down six.
Nothing early.
Dame Nick Carter.
Thank you, John.
23 for halftime.
Score a good one through here.
This double a girls state championship I'll step aside be right back with halftime coming up live from the Macon Cineplex.

This is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station on your May 23, 18 hour halftime scored GHC leads it over Wesleyan in the fourth meeting of the year between the two, the Class two girls state championship live here at the Make it Center flex.
Dave garnered Dick with us right here as we get set to a rock and roll here in the second half.
But I'll tell you what great first half of basketball right here and looking forward to that second half between two teams that again know a lot about each other.
I liked what Coach Mitchell said.
He said each of the teams seemed to be trying to work through some things.
And I'll tell you what those things were.
Wesleyan was having trouble with these press and and GHC in turn was having trouble with the Wesleyan Zone that two three with the tallest girl on the court out there at the top of the zone.
So there were no easy shots to be had anywhere around the sweet top of the three point arc, the elbows, the free throw line, nothing there.
Well, we're going to talk more about highlights here in the first half.
First, though, let's go courtside to John Nelson, who's standing by with a couple of special guests John.
Thank you, guys.
Here with Principal Scott Harsh, no longer the new guy, the principal at Greater Atlanta Christian and headmaster Zach Young from the Wesleyan School Center.
The veteran will come to you next.
We'll start with the relative new guy.
It's been a year for you.
What's life been like for you as you've been getting adjusted to life for Greater Atlanta?
Christian?
it's been a great year.
I've been there 11 years now.
But second year as principal.
But it's been a great year.
And I just want to say I'm so proud of these girls.
They've had a great season and Coach Mitchell's a great coach and they've been really exciting to watch all season long.
We're excited for them today.
Now what's the program meant and the athletic program meant to Greater Atlanta Christian?
All the successes that you guys have had both on and off the field.
Well, this year for for these girls that the question for these girls has been really exciting.
This we've watched this group really mature over the last few years and they've had great success last year.
But this year really turned it on and just a fun group of girls to watch on the court and also in the hallways and in classrooms and things of that nature.
Leaders on our campus.
And we're really proud of them.
You've been there 11 years.
I've pretty much seen Atlanta Christian grow on campus.
What has that growth been like for both the school and the community as you guys have grown and matured as a school?
Well, boy, we've been blessed.
The last 11 years that I've been there.
But that extends way back to when the school first opened.
And just so many things have happened on our campus, opening a new pool this year and just really excited about what that will mean for our kids and for the community that we hope to continue to bless our community as well.
Thanks for your time.
Sit tight.
Let's cross over and all we could do is get these two guys to talk basketball.
Headmaster Young, you first thing you commented about was basketball and their pool.
You just built a brand new pool frame and pool, which is absolutely gorgeous.
And we compete against them in swimming as we do in everything else.
So we're glad to have another another venue in the county that when we go on and away match that we have, they have a great facility.
And you guys have had a lot of construction going on, a lot of expansion for those not familiar with what's going on on the campus, what's going on on the campus, Well, we just finished a brand new 57,000 square foot gymnasium, Yancey Gymnasium, and we played our entire schedule in it this year and also had the region tournament and everybody who came to it enjoyed it.
It's a great facility.
And we just opened two weeks ago a new arts facility, another 57,000 square foot building for the visual and the performing arts.
So we've added 114,000 square feet of space this year, which basically completes our campus.
And yesterday, the last two trailers left the campus, which is very significant for us.
And was sort of a nostalgic moment.
Scott came to GHC the year Wesleyan opened in 1996, and we've had trailers on the campus since then.
So to not have them is a big deal for us.
And having both of you here is a big deal for us.
Headmaster Zach Young, the Wesleyan School principal.
Scott Hodge, great Atlanta Christian, thanks for hanging out with me.
Thank you.
Let's send it back to David Dick, Florida.
Thank you, John.
And again, taking a look back at that first half here, a little bit there, I can tell you what a lot of exciting things, as you mentioned, not a lot of shots from beyond the arc too much as we take a look at those highlights, there's the inside game by Wesleyan, in this case, Amari Armstrong looking down low as the defense came to her and the short mid range jump shot there and the turnovers, giving Wesleyan giving GHC nice offensive opportunities as in these short pull ups by Brandon Jordan the freshman they get the number four Yeah the freshman got it going for him Here's Wesleyan back in into our living here Aaron Hall again the two freshmen as we talked about really having a big game in there are the numbers from the first half field goals that's what we have 33% for Wesleyan, 29 for Z. Yeah.
And No.
Three point field goals.
There's the number of free throws again, 2a51 up one right there.
And Jon Nelson joins us with coach Azar John.
Thank you Dave here with the coach.
I guess it comes down to the press and two turnovers in the first half.
Brian.
I don't even know if it was the press.
We were breaking their press pretty well and we're just throwing it away.
I don't you know, usually JT does a good job of causing turnovers.
Right now we're just giving him the ball.
So we're hoping that if we have any turnovers in the second half, they will caused the second half of the semifinal game.
You were up, you sustained a run by Randolph Play.
Now you had the same thing happen this time around.
What did you tell him at the half?
I don't know.
Quick, turn the ball over.
It's what we got to do.
We got to quit turning the ball over.
We're doing a good job defensively.
We're boxing out well.
We're keeping them out of their transition game.
We got to quit turning the ball over.
All right.
Thanks a lot, coach.
So I guess she's got to quit turning the ball over, guys.
We'll see if that happens in the third and fourth quarter in the next 60 minutes.
All righty.
Thank you, John.
We're going to go ahead and head for a timeout right there.
I guess the strategy is simple.
We're back with the second half of this one when we return.

This this is Georgia Public Broadcasting, your PBS station heading to the class AA girls State championship between GHC and Wesleyan 23 Halftime at the break as we get set to start the third quarter Ladies Spartans on top they trailed six nothing early out of the gate to Wesleyan, but have since come back and taken a lead that they have yet to relinquish.
James Garner Dick Williams with a along with John Nelson courtside along with the rest of the GPB television.
Do you want to mention the officials?
I don't get to do that that often.
We've got Mike Oglesby of Greater Georgia is the crew chief and we've got Adele Bell and Amy Totty, all senior partners of mine in the past, and good friends.
And they're going to look at our officials right there on the screen and getting them to say hi to those folks there.
Of course, around here today, also living a dream here, referee game, high school basketball, state championship.
I know you've been a part of a few of those championship crews and seven of these trainers every year.
It's really exciting.
Yes, because it means so much to the kids in the crowds of strangers.
You asked for Hannah Jordan with a team high seven for the Lady Spartans in that first half, Wesleyan opens the half with the basketball and two forwards.
Consider it out so that to get going, they've got to get the offense somehow unstuck from Anna marie Armstrong and get that ball passed around over.
Dave, I'm just struck by the fact that when those three point field goals in the first half faltered as they attempted them.
Yeah Jesse was was also ten West end also for today's game the three point shot is so fun and that's very unusual and very uncharacteristic for these two teams who typically shoot the ball well from all over the place.
I think it's a tribute to the two defenses and their familiarity with each other that the offenses aren't really getting what they want inside the arc, by the way, Stephen.
And that could get them going real quickly.
Stevens With the first two there.
So it's a five point game, 2526.
We've got to look at the way of getting the one in there.
So one of those little referee technicalities that's in the book, but well observed there by Michael, it was me, the coaches.
That's what happens when you knock the ball, when it goes to the net and you don't have to immediately get involved.
When he was in Louis Armstrong, number three, six points in that first half, Aaron Paul led the way.
She had eight for the two freshmen with the team highs in scoring in that first half.
Here's Kelly Hall, three point shot off the mark, ten over five point range.
Back on the other end, Lady Spartans thought about the thing you did today.
Daniels to put up a shot off the glass Good penetration right there by Daniels and you have to get USC going just this is in the class but most of the first half on the bench after her after the foul trouble 93 inches ten and she sliced off zone half the time that some of the former athletes that have moved on here.
So Baker of course with the USC the Georgian into the WNBA they later served from Wesleyan, graduated playing at the collegiate level.
She had 21 points in the last two seasons, the fifth game and two more right there by the Lady Wolves, Michelle Pope.
Nice little left hand hook under the hoop by Michelle Pope, who was not really a scorer, but she's taking advantage of opportunities today.
Just an amazing three point shot for Brook Smith.
Seattle embraced the first.
I think they heard you over here, Jake, and they want to try to change those numbers.
You try.
So now Russell Jackson is one for ten from the three point line.
And I think we'll see it heat up now.
I think the sky has been broken and they've got to go eight point game 30, 2018 only had three Division one signees, in fact, off of last year's team, including the Whitney sisters, both at Georgia Southern.
They were here for the semifinal contest on their former lady Warm Phenix.
They've always had quick little guards with blond hair.
They've been all over the place, having an all up.
Okay, here's the latest manifestation of that.
You remember the Luckhurst Girls says she's the daughters of the former Falcons place kicker Drew Parker outside shot good looking shot right there by Stevens, good rotation.
And now they're starting to find her and that's important game.
Lady Barnes is quietly pulled out from here in the second half again with 2318 at the break Coach Azar said about turnovers.
No more of them.
It's not the turnovers, it's the GHC offense here.
I mean, this call bounced off the glass.
Yeah indeed.
Good bucket there.
Eight points for Armstrong 3224 and back the other way we're going to look at Kelly Ball again the five five senior averaging a little over seven a game.
She is exempt from taking those charges so she stays put a contact and she's down and small.
She is very Chaney means 33 into the lineup for gassy you saw her off the bench that's £3 on Bria Smith and the ball stolen away So it's Fantasia again 10th season at Wesleyan started the program up at 97.
I referenced the first Boston game they ever played against Pi Day and they lost 91 to 11.
They have come a long, a long way from that, from that game that I thought we couldn't get that one level suffering here.
A squad with 34 points in the game and a steal is cut talking news and one person back to back up.
So now to the line and a chance for a three for four.
And this is the way the three games this year have blown it between these two teams.
The slightest little edges to Jackson is surprising because Jackson is well, now Japanese are going to ask for a time out to those threes, their chance and then what they're trying to complete it doesn't get it and it looks like a timeout on the floor are going to be called by Coach Dan Hayes.
I am a Wesleyan lady.
All 3624 guys on top will step aside with them and be back with 343 to play in the third period.
We are live from the making center place.
The funding for this program is provided by the Georgia High School Association.
The GHC would like to thank Verizon Wireless for the outstanding support of high school sports programing on GPB.

These sports and activities enrich educational experiences on behalf of Verizon Wireless in the GHC, Thank you for your support.
Coach Mike Mitchell and the GHC Ladies Spartans looking for their first state championship since the 2002 season, trying to make it number eight in the trophy case there.
Mitchell, of course, in his seventh season, has been around for for a couple of them right there.
Meanwhile to extend his or her team trying to make it four straight state championships, this is their fourth consecutive final.
And there you get a look at the school from last year, 7556 in the championship game last year.
We talked about Sarah Dell kind of big game in that one right there.
And now you've got some younger players that are stepping up that we really didn't see a whole lot of last year that are really trying to make a name for themselves in the 2007.
Yes, indeed.
And this was supposed to be a complete rebuilding year for rest and Orange, a tribute to them.
They've gotten this far.
But it also is the year Mike Mitchell put all the pieces together with all the seniors plus the good young role players who we've seen come in and do some terrific work, especially Brown and Jordan.
And he's been playing under his belt because she doesn't realize this is a state championship.
A lot of times as we see the field goals this quarter, Wesley, at a 50% GHC, a perfect six of six right here.
A lot of times with freshmen, they don't realize that they should be nervous.
Sometimes it's the upperclassmen.
They get more nervous because they've been around a few years and freshmen don't know any better.
That's right.
So don't drive to the hole.
You should go.
But now she has.
She's six for six shooting.
You knew that it was straight talk that was going to come because frankly they're shooting the dress on first, but they weren't really around the irons.
They say this is too good a team.
No getting going.
Yeah, I thought that the line right here knocks down the first one.
And as you see, the six one senior got out and she is well below her average of 12 points in the game.
But she's got half of it right.
Six points go out and she is playing a lot and confidence is half.
I think it's magnetism calm remarks that the families that are trying to work things out.
He probably said just work that out and we know what coach Azar said.
We're going to start turning the ball over.
Right.
Just don't consider numbers.
Yeah.
Today Daniels inside work tough had a defender right there.
Nice save by Stevens but into the hands of here at home and Wesley back and running the other way.
I don't think these two teams have walked the ball across midcourt today and that was a huge play I was just about to say with these last couple of minutes of the third quarter, you can't wait for the fourth quarter to make your move.
And Emory Armstrong took that right straight down the lane and chooses the glasses to go on.
And that's 11 points for Armstrong into double figures and the three point play.
And that's how the lady wolves can get back into this game in a hurry.
GMC started to pull away there a little bit, but they're back to the seven point lead.
Wesley was not going to the man to man.
They played his own full game.
They've now gone to a man to man.
We'll see how that changes things for the GMC offense inside Knicks, half the glass letting go and Hall with the quick hands pulls it down a jump back elbow It's any means game in there Another freshman higher up good defense by Henry Armstrong on that play and prevented prevent of the hoop and afraid to jump ball the possession remains with the Spartans the lady Spartans both teams consistent throughout the playoffs Wesley coming off of an emotional semifinal game again that threw off the monster a three point game over number two, Randolph Calais, who was 29 and of course, that was a rematch of the 2004 semifinal right there.
Butler Wesleyan able to pull that out by two points.
That really gave that team the confidence heading into today's state championship.
They're not here today.
But is there a quicker girls team anywhere than Randolph players year in and year out?
They're like little fuzzy weather.
Huge play for western Armstrong, a chance for another three point play.
She just had one last trip up the floor there and she's got 13.
You don't often talk about the defense but on that inbounds playing at the GMC and Jaycee and set playing in a clear shot and Emory Armstrong can really choose to shoot 13 points four rebounds for the sophomore in and he leads like a senior.
It's almost like she can put this team on her back in theory.
And whenever they need that lift.
And she's showing a lot of maturity today for a for a younger player, she stepped over the free throw line that time so it wouldn't have counted.
But the.
No, you're absolutely right.
I'm very impressed with her at both ends.
I like her defense and I like her really gambler's mentality on offense.
She can just be takes it down the paint Smith put up a shot fouled from behind by Kelly Hall good foul by Kelly Hall She was beat on the play and she'll send a freshman to the foul line time.
You know we're talking about rebounding being being a key especially for Wesleyan having that size right there.
But really it almost seems like both teams are one and out.
As you see Smith's numbers today.
Well, I was surprised at the halftime stats which showed GMC out rebounding West End.
From my untrained eye I thought Western dominated the Bruins this week.
This is a cool customer for making Smith Center points.
Now here comes the gassy pressure again playing man to man defense and they're asking you're asking Kyrie next to check in Rory Armstrong Boston will give right there to hall from Armstrong puts it up and wouldn't go and a long pass inside cross-court Smith kicks it back out Brandon Jordan up top with 143 last year in the third period Good kick to cream next he knocks down the other jumper and maybe that's one of the western stadiums in solution and the man's just waiting there 4031 back to a nine point game the Thunder a minute and a half to go in the third inside Armstrong try to put it out.
Good defense there on the other end today, Daniels runs the floor.
He puts up the shop in and out Nix on the follow and one good work inside by nice two 5 to 1 senior who will draw the line and a chance to three Danny Daniels essentially quiet because the three fouls in the first half the critics really picked them up.
She averages 7.4 points six rebounds again again.
And this is where they spread the wealth around.
There's just the offense, but she's playing extremely well on both ends right now.
And with this free throw couldn't be harder could have been and her season ever so Knicks will stay put with six points right here.
Meanwhile Armstrong quickly back on the other end That ball nearly away and we're going to get G is he for a foul?
Looks like it's going to come against Brianna Borden.
Foul, of course, she was on the floor.
So you're talking about his body language and she's getting there on the end.
And everyone at that back just comes out and momentarily Dallas over to on who will pull the trigger from way out there off the five yard tip alive by down.
She puts it back up and wouldn't go up ball park possession here where Wesley is having a good shooting and that's just hurting West a little bit in re Armstrong's having to do all of the offensive load in the freshman year and Hall taking one class in mixed success three point shot from Armstrong off the mark and taken out of there by you see what he's bargains for.
Meanwhile we're getting a little bit more balanced scoring they've seen with eight different players before their.
Name on the scoreboard today and a whistle on the floor in the paint and that is on and out as she tried scramble for that loose ball going to a bounce play underneath the ball goes to Jessie see coach Mike Mitchell right there looking on off the inbound here shot is put up and you had a chance for another a three point play right here.
This one from Angelica Wilcox.
The five eight soccer you she will go to the line and I didn't see who the foul is on Johnny Marie Armstrong Looks like it was on Kelly Hall and that's the second right now Pope will come in for Wesleyan along with number 12, Katie Fulton, who will step in here for the first time today.
Chantelle Kennedy also in the lineup for the Lady Wolves, the coach Azar here.
I should mention that Kenny thought he was three doors up for me in my neighborhood football.
She's played here at end for four years and doesn't get a lot of playing time.
But he's around.
Good things happen here.
Wilcox knocks down 4331 the storage you up by 12 inside 30 seconds in this third period live from the make it center play championship rolling on right here it has been making madness so far with two excellent single eight games earlier today it was Double-A game also shaping pretty well with the whole number three to the goal and a turnover right there.
With 11 seconds left, the coach has more, I'm telling you, So folks can take that ball off stronger.
Whoops.
He stuck under there and had to take it out.
You get to the three second half as you bring Smith back here again, playing with those three fouls.
He's got to be careful time winding down and good enough inside with fly go ball loose kicked up shot for four for Kiarostami That's how the quarter ends.
The ladies Barton Faithful are on their feet and why not the leading 4531 over Wesleyan as we reach the end of three periods, we'll be back with the fourth and final quarter from the Macon Center.

DACA, Wesleyan and the Double-A Girls State Championship and the Lady Spartans will carry a 4531 lead into the fourth and final period.
They have.
Garner Dick Williams with you, John Nelson, courtside as we take you through the final 8 minutes to schools.
The started with a lot of trailers and a lot of fundraising some terrific schools The Sun Daniels opens the fourth period.
Big four GHC stands for three right here and she makes it go.
And this could open the floodgates for Jack Daniels.
Jana Nasar maybe warning that they could be blown out here in the opening minutes of the fourth period.
Daniels with Seven Points, completes the three point play.
That was the scoop from John Nelson during the time out as Coach Azar was going to go more to the press right there, and they were either going to put up a lot of to get back in it or they were going to give up a lot of points and gets a run out.
And she's willing to do that because the tide has been against them.
When Jacoby with that six for six shooting run.
Wesleyan has not responded in any way offensively and she's starting to run the floor set their spacing wider which they do quite well they're well coached to Michigan and there again spacing mattered and she had a lot of easy shots he did down three Austin Smith up nine points.
When a lady finds a rolling three point shot to strong right here brought down by Daniels here take away right there ball loose on the floor and double double Looks like it'll be on the other end Logan Morris another freshman in four for Wesley and number 20, getting some action here in the state championship game doesn't miss an opportunity right there And now do you see what the numbers are momentarily that ball kicked away Good job though by Kelly to keep the pass and being made there.
Wesley is not getting the good shots and we'll have to take a look at the defense.
Jackson is using an entry.
Armstrong, because she's suddenly gone very quiet, good looking shot right there by Kiera one.
Yeah, that was a shot.
And again, she's supposed to be the defensive specialist.
She looked like an offensive player there and a bucket on the other end by the Lady Wolves, a three point shot and coaches are already working is deep with a full 640 left to go in the fourth quarter.
Taking the time out after that three to manage the clock, 5234 and nine different Lady Spartans have recorded their name in the Scorebook here today.
As we talked about coming in that balanced scoring attack.

Some great championship games playing out here of course last night and on in t today as we continue our game two coverage and we want to encourage all the folks out there to continue to help us put it on the air.
If you love sports, you got to because the football coverage of the semifinals and football madam the state championship in basketball did get better and this if you're a sports fan, got us put up here and hit by Daniel she's got nine and today really warming up.
Remember she only had two at the break seven to foul was on strong he went inside and creates an opportunity at the line.
Well that's what she's got to do She has had many open looks in the stands that you've noticed and I haven't been observant enough to pick up what they're doing on the defense.
But she has just not had the open looks and they're crowding the lane against her.
That's one thing.
You're not getting that stroll down, down Wilcox picking up a first down there.
You see Armstrong's numbers today, 13 points, five rebounds.
Does something in frustration on the western side.
Yes, he is playing a strong run, as you said.
They're distributing your points around.
It's it's no one person.
It's hard to figure out where the offense is coming from, but they're getting it done here.
He finally gets it across.
And a tough collision right there.
Well, you could hear the a smack on the floor.
Well, the freshman Logan Morris stepped in and blocked her just as she left her feet to go to the basket.
That's Angelica Wilcox, the sophomore on the ground.
And I think the the back of her head hit the floor there the way she came down.
And you see the look of concern from the lady Spartan faithful.
And you know that when the head coach goes right out there, as Mike Marshall has done for GHC.
But I just sense that the Western girls are frustrated.
They're not getting their open looks at the basket in this second half and their and their defense is breaking down at odd moments, giving up points to people they don't expect to score for Jason.
And we'll see if the Wesleyan pressure can force some gassy turnovers and get them back into this ballgame.
But right now, Gassy is cruising with almost a 20 point lead and you're only 610 left.
That's going to be a tall order for the Wesleyan Wolves as they go for their third is a three to fourth consecutive state championship.
Here you see Wilcox on the bench there.
I think she wanted to stay in the game, but they advised you to come on out of there a little bit.
She might be seeing a few stars, but she seems to be okay.
She's smiling.
She's all right for granted.
Jared will take the free throws right here.
She knocks down the first one.
He doesn't hesitate to send a ninth grader out to shoot those things.
RICHARDSON And why not?
Boy, she's been impressive today.
The second one on the way and unable to get the roll on the second.
Daniels though with the foul she will go to the line.
It's all work in Jesse's way now.
And if they are able to handle this Wesleyan press, they should be in pretty good shape the rest of the way.
And it'll be interesting to see how many different JK players have scored when this game is over.
And again, as we said at the outset, Wesleyan Reliant on the offensive and Louis Armstrong and Sarah Duncan, and it isn't happening for them in this second half.
At any rate, Sanders knocks down a second.
She's got ten now to go along with nine rebounds back on the other end.
That ball knocked away from Armstrong and kept alive of them, out of bounds on all hands and ASU heads up play right there.
Armstrong tried to force the action.
She drilled in to four gassy players.
She had to have teammates open all around her and there was no way she was going to get good.
Look at the basket as those four players came in in quick off.
The inbound right there shot put up by Daniels wouldn't go forward her own shot up and in she's having a terrific second after having to sit for so much of that first half film Nice player Sue at the break and now 12 here ten in the second half that three by Bell back tomorrow and a whistle and a foul in the corner It looks like an here home now starting to force it up a little bit on the left and looking to score fifth through the night.
That probably wasn't the greatest shot but she made one just a moment before Wesleyan, of course, advancing in the tournament, beating armor to the first round, Putnam County in round two Deuces.
That's a team that was the number two seed out of the region.
Six double play in their region beat them in the quarter finals, 6442 and of course beating Randolph player of the year semifinals by two points Wesleyan entering the tournament as the number three seed out of region six double play having to go on the road that first round.
Meanwhile see of course the number one seed out of the region, three six.
Basically a dominant, I guess, is what I'm trying to say.
There's no question.
And as as a former GSC coach told me, he said, is the subregions the toughest in the state?
If you look at GHC beating Avant last year, Triple H State champ Ryan Buford is no slouch.
They're loaded over the 63 five, as you see.
Molly Mitchell end the game for GHC and the Lady Spartans trying to pull it away here.
They could feel it with 535 left to play.
Anything can happen.
We saw in that two single-A girls game today, of course, you had a team that was down there, Hopkinsville by 16 with six and a half minutes to go and came back and won it by four.
So I was shocked by that outcome.
I thought Landmark had that game plan.
Mark Christian had that game well under control and they stopped attacking.
And the next thing you know, Hawkins Mills got himself a state championship.
Hopkinsville with a harness.
Horses train Hopkinsville, Georgia.
So coaches are there talking to her.
Senior Kelly Hall.
There's Crean Hicks, six points today, five rebounds back of all there on the first one, make that her average for the season so she's had a fine game and she's played some especially good defense at times.
On Armstrong knocks down a fairly so eight points for next season defeated Wesleyan by 611 and 12 this year in their three meetings, including the region six tournament trying to open it up here in the state championship.
The take away shot wouldn't go for Knicks.
You've got to take care of the basketball.
You can't you can't just hand it to a cutting Tassie player.
This is not a West Wing kind of game this second half it and great shot Now what instead of Armstrong's cooled off and so will I guess end up with probably the worst beat and it sure seems given Wesley in many a year I suspect the way this one's going, you know, something happens in the last 508 that you've got to credit the aggressive game plan there by coaches are to try to press their way back into it a little bit here.
I mean, you're down by 14 here in the fourth quarter against the a number one team.
Exactly who you've met and even who you know about coming in.
So why not take some chances?
Well, and the two teams have gone totally different directions in the sense that Wesleyan has not gotten good open looks.
The last play was another good example of that.
Gassy is spreading the floor.
They're spacing, they're distributing, and it's working for the next one or two on that stretch.
He's got nine today.
Daniels the only Lady Spartan in double figures with 14, so she's hit her average.
And basically this game shaping up a lot like the numbers.
Yes, exactly.
And now watch them to try to shoot the three.
And this one goes down here in hall with their first points of the second half.
She's got 11.
She's the second lady, want to reach double figures.
But Wesley, with just four players scoring here today, most of the scoring has come from Ann Marie Armstrong and Aaron Paul.
Sarah Jones also with nine in the straw poll, the only other player to report to you today.
So hasn't been as balanced for the lady wins today as they would have liked.
But that's the story of their season.
I think the the good news to actually looking ahead is that the freshman here in Hall number two has played extremely well put points on the board and Washington will be back next year as his younger players grow and become stronger and smarter and and get those repetitions in gassy.
Certainly looking back, I suspect next year with the youth on their roster, even though they graduate five seniors in there.
That sounds strange but but they've got players in the pipeline coming along and it's hard to keep them all straight tonight because they're going ten days.
Yeah, no question about that.
Things are getting invested in.
There are three consecutive state final, though.
I tell you what, it's just been amazing what that program is still relatively young for openers, as in years.
And they've already got, what, five state championships to their name.
Yeah.
To be here and make of six times in the first ten years of the program's existence is pretty remarkable.
Jaycee has a long history going back to the the eighties.
They've been here.
They know what it's all about.
For them to call it on Armstrong, it'll be for her.
Do you ever wonder, Dave, why one region could be so?
It's always puzzled me.
I always come to the conclusion that the quality of the coaching in the region and that good coaches are attracted to the competitive nature of of that region in Hillside region.
Right.
On the other hand, I don't think in that respect they haven't been able to drop in that like.
But when you look at the top to bottom history next comes back in and what they've done.
He's the one seed of course Buford A to Wesley a three and a half ago the defending state triple play champion is the fourth seed out that region coming back in there.
Canada had some injuries this year.
You wonder if maybe Osage stayed healthier.
They might not have been here in place of one of his two teams.
But again, that's why they play the games.
444 left in the contest right here.
Three point shot is put up in here by Kelly Hall.
Kelly Hall had a long time between baskets and she needed that shot.
Quick turnaround steal right there by Armstrong and two more points.
So she's got 16 having a good game right here, but has been overshadowed by the Lady Spartans and what they've been able to do.
And let's remember, they're Armstrong.
Even though she's Wesley's dominant player, she's only a songstress.
So what do you see more of her and her point guard post combo, which is odd.
You don't see that you're still very PG and to point guard in the first play, Daniels kicks it out right here against USC being selected and they can try to run that clock after the shot wouldn't go.
Think about our first She's got six long arms there.
I mean she's really a great defender.
It's really trying as hard to get it inbounds.
Right.
Has seen her knock a couple away today.
Wesleyan running an offense now to spread to the corners to look for the three point shot along the line and to see that time reacting very well in a timeout called to get the freshman out of that jam over there on the line before she got to 5 seconds on 6543 22 point game with 322 to play for us coming up here a little bit later on this afternoon.
We've got the boys game and it should be a good one.
Well don't miss our live broadcast of the Geico 25th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival Parade Sunday, March 18th at 3 p.m.
Colorful floats, military units, marching bands and much, much more.
Take a seat with us on Cherry Street in beautiful downtown Macon.
Sunday, March 18th, 3 p.m. right here on GPB.
We'll say we go to St Patrick's Day in Savannah and then come up here for the parade a day later.
That sounds good.
Thank you for the invitation.
Thank you, Dave.
I appreciate that.
I hardly know you, but I'll come join you.
It's that time of year, you know.
You're getting into spring there a little bit and are making the transition out of winter.
I'm a I'm a warm weather myself, so I can't wait, man.
I'm with you there.
Totally.
But this game is even though this is a wonderful day, it's a state championship game, you can't take anything away from any game.
That means the state title and the big trophy.
It's somewhat disappointing that these two schools with these great traditions haven't given us a closer, more competitive game.
And it was really it was the workmanlike approach of Jaycee and Coach Mitchell's approach there in the third quarter that just put this game away.
Armstrong still working?
Well, I tell you what, credit Wesleyan, they continue to fight this course.
So Armstrong, with 16 points, she's playing like it's a one point game.
You know, she's let up a bit now that none of the other Western players have let up.
It's just that they they cannot react on defense to the number of weapons and the spread offense to the spacing that GSC is using and their own offense.
They're simply not getting good looks.
That play was an example.
She played that shot get fouled.
Not so much to make the shot and then can convert it for the second time.
She steps over the fence all day.
That's unusual.
Anxious to try to fall on her own shot right there.
Right.
Got to hold up right full court pressured intense by Wesleyan but the hearing quite well and stop by Georgia pull up right there She kind of race to the bucket when she pulled it back out electrically trying to get all of the teammates a better shot as Daniels goes in and she picks up the whistle and nothing subtle about that foul.
Joe Hall just decided she's not going in there first round the way.
Take her chances on the foul line that's three on hall again Daniels at the line gets up the first and that's what I must say about this tonight.
DANIELS She is a quiet player.
David, you noticed that she's having a heck of a game even after sitting so much in the first half.
But she's getting it done.
It's just kind of quietly achieving her goals here.
Well, points in the game of 14 in the second half.
And we had two at the break because of those three fouls.
She hadn't picked up a foul since it's been the key she's been able to beat in the ballgame.
And there's nothing spectacular marketing.
There's no there's no flash shooting.
So she's just she's just finding her spots and getting the open chance.
Daniels, of course, was the leader really last year on the team to a certain extent.
But back to state final round.
Take another look at this right here.
Wound things getting physical.
She rolled right off the hip fans of Kelly Hall and landed on her wrist.
That hurts.
I tell you what, we've seen a lot of bodies hit the floor here today.
And one thing's for sure, D.C., even though they're up 6744, they're going to know they in the ballgame because Wesley's playing very physical.
Hey, man, I think I was in fourth grade when my dad first said to me, basketball is a contact sport, right?
I didn't cover that before in the fourth grade.
I don't think I agreed with him.
But over the years I've come to realize it was right.
She's had a wonderful game here tonight, and this goes out.
A senior probably headed for a mid-major.
I'm coach is being recruited by several schools and the what they call the mid-major status which means you're not going to the SCC or the SCC and adorned with the basketball right here under 3 minutes to play Daniels great dish right there up and in and one third Fannie Lou Grant is just a terrific assist and she saw that play develop I think she saw the floor perfectly I thought she might have been screened away from her player coming in on the left side.
Change means but she delivered that bounce pass right on the money.
That was well done.
You see all smiles on the lady's part bench here today.
It means knocks down the free throw.
She hits her average with five points.
So we still have the fact that nine different USC players have scored and how many different West Wing players scored five.
And it's not very well restricted among the five.
So now we'll begin with three to the foul line as we play out this last 2 minutes and 33 seconds remaining, the double bind to serve the rest of the way for USC at the line tonight fouls on Armstrong has found out is that right that's the fifth foul.
So if she wants to go out tonight with a big ballgame you see Jordan going out for a deal.
See right there.
And Armstrong, again, just a sophomore, very emotional over on the bench right now.
But she's going to have a couple more years and just an accident after today.
And that's from that sophomore.
I have a hunch that she'll be back in the gym on Monday and ready to see that this doesn't happen to them again.
I think as these two teams trade victories and state titles, as again, these schools so close in the same county and they all know each other, they've all played a year against each other at middle school ball And Andrea Armstrong has nothing to be ashamed of, but it's a team sport and they didn't win.
Not Goodwin's shot right here by hall off the mark.
I think it has a lot to do with the work ethic and, you know, the things we talked about before the game building a program with the youth.
So I know that especially with with wrestling and some of those kind of teams, they get some those middle schools and the youth programs involved running the same types of things that they do.
Well.
In fact, my daughter plays from Arizona and lost to Wesleyan twice this year at the eighth grade level.
And it's the same press and the same system that you're seeing out here tonight.
It's not working all that well for wrestling tonight, but it certainly has to the tune of four straight state championships, three straight.
I can't get that right for state finals appearances in three state.
There it is.
And I just can't get it right.
Thanks again.
The game was here, the quiet one.
I would imagine that at five eight, she'll be a two guard at the college level and maybe a wing Kelly Hall will come out the senior very emotional against coach Azar hug over there and all wrapping up an excellent prep career.
And her cousin will pick up right where she leaves off because Aaron Hall, number two, has had a pretty good game here for Wesleyan for ninth grade.
Meanwhile, Ayesha McKenzie, number 21 in the lineup for the Lady Wolves and five six freshman.
Some more freshmen making their way into the lineup here tonight.
And fouling Stop the clock is 204 left in the hall here in hall, going to pick up his fourth or fifth move.
That might be five on her.
And I wonder when a Western goes to beating this soundly, it has to have been many years ago and we don't have those kinds of records.
Nova Disposal they are a 30 point margin is not something Western is used to.
And here she goes.
Yeah.
Hey, Daniels, out of the lineup.
Daniels also racking up a stellar prep career.
Well go out of the game today with 19 points in the senior lady her team after sitting in after sitting most of the second quarter.
That's a heck of a game for her, actually.
She really smoothly and effectively.
You see the hugs and the congratulatory is there from her teammates.
Yeah, We're just 2 minutes away from bringing another state championship back to little.
Is there a Delta Force a little seen as the wings and puts up a three point shot.
That shot wouldn't go Sometimes you have an interstate when you're driving to Lilburn.
They've got some great street signage they say they say things like Lilburn, City of Champions.
They list the park team championships.
Right.
Which are considerable.
And they list the GSC championships.
And I don't know the Providence Christian ever won a state title, I'm not sure, but they've got them all.
Goulburn's quite a sports town, plus home to one of the best club soccer programs.
I think they all just must roll out the balls when the kids are about two years old.
And Wolverine, There you see Phenix also being congratulated over there.
She gets some hugs.
The senior playing no final minutes here in the state championship game.
We'll follow it.
So wouldn't go.
Now back to the line.
Old lady Rolls and Sarah Delph will come out for Wesley.
As you see the the hugs on the a Wesleyan bench as well of course don't number 32 the six more senior quickly Max it's just played a great game especially the defense seems drawn I think noticed that all the time but she was very active she's got she's going to pick up some juice.
She's really playing Avery Armstrong.
Well, Armstrong finished the points, but they didn't come in.
They were in good hands here.
1071157 senior of eight points here tonight downtown by Carter Johnson number 22 in the lineup a moment ago for coach Azar and his lady Hawks and that one thrown away and back the other way with 137 to go 70 353155 match up and all those three are Smith the other senior was fired up as she heads to her bench to a hug there from coach Mitchell and Smith with our great ball game also in double figures here today with ten points to join the team aged 18 and she took care of the basketball Jacqui Smith I thought she really was effective.
She kept that spacing.
And what you're watching now, of course, is next year's teams pretty much out there coaching.
Mary Armstrong will be on the rest of the team.
Some of the some of the GNC players on the bench will be back.
But this is a great opportunity for these kids who don't see a lot of minutes as Julie or Stevens goes out to get a taste of it.
And remember, when they go back into the gym Monday, they'll remember all these people when they can toss in what fun it was.
Let's go back there.
It's a good trip.
I got a feeling with the team, the traditions that these two programs have.
We certainly haven't seen the end of either one in the state championship game.
Not at all.
Not at all.
Time out by Jay Nasar, who was coaching right to the end.
Only 55 seconds left and she's down 28 points.
But she's teaching.
She's starting his younger players.
You know, Jake, we were talking about the game from an officials perspective.
And of course you've refereed for so many years.
What is what's the main thing you look for in a state championship game as far as keeping things under control?
Because I know in front of a big crowd at a big venue, things can sometimes get out of hand or a little bit and and so forth.
Coach what are some things that, you know, it's official.
Look, it's an interesting question you ask.
This is the easiest kind of a game to referee because coaches are on their best behavior because.
All their peers are here and and and the TV cameras are on the TV cameras are on their state officials in every seat, you know, So they're they're all well-behaved.
And the fans are not all from the same from the schools that are playing.
So it's not quite as emotional say as if these two teams were playing at Wesleyan in that new gym.
And Zach Young talked about or at Jaycee in the Bradford gym.
And they these are actually easy games to work.
Now, one thing no referee likes is this part of the game with 36 seconds left a huge margin.
No one's coming back from this.
And the Wesleyan team is still failing to get possession.
The ball in the parade of the foul line in the late going is is somewhat tedious and and you've got to protect the kids so that nobody gets hurt.
And it's not going to be called here by George Mitchell.
They want to go ahead and make some sets.
No substitutions, right here.
The celebration has basically been gone for the GMAC Lady Spartans, who of course, are 31 and one looking to go to 32 and want to pick up a state championship.
Again, their loan loss this year to five eight South Gwinnett, who we saw in last night's five eight championship of course, that lost coming in the Deep South classic final played earlier this year.
But hats off to both squads but especially USC they came in here took care of business.
It was a close game at the half widen the gap a little bit in the third period and have run away with it here in the fourth.
Absolutely.
And who would have expected this kind of a margin in this rivalry?
I'm shocked by, frankly, there's nothing in the records of these two teams that suggest that the margin would be like this contact right there.
Boards number 25, a freshman for USC in the lineup, as is Lauren Hodge, a junior.
And mercifully your notice no foul called on that play and a Kepler number 34 freshman in four Wesleyan before Jesse Huff a junior guard for the lady wolves and that shot by Lee Asia McKenzie the ninth grader is over me and for GHC 3.5 after that.
And that will do in 73 to 48, the final and the GHC Lady Spartans up Gwinnett County are your 2007 class double a girls state champion.
Wow.
Boy, they were waiting for that one right there this year were a pile up.
There's nothing like the happiness of that celebration.
Isn't that wonderful?
And there's always two sides.
And a great run came to an end tonight.
Wesleyan flirted with their fourth consecutive state championship.
They're going to fall a little bit short here tonight.
Take your hands off the coach.
Danny's off.
And the lady Wolves for D.C. again, your 2007 champ will go ahead.
Step aside, have more from the Macon Center flex when we return.

And let's talk about one year later.
How does it feel to be a state champ?
Well, that's an awesome feeling.
No matter how many times you've been here.
Get to this point.
It's an awesome feeling to finish your season with the win.
And, you know, again, it's a great program.
Like when their tradition stuff, our kids just play their hearts out today and did a great job.
Third quarter was a different scene to be seen, but we settled down and did a good job and scored some points and kept them off the off the scoreboard a little bit better there in that third quarter.
This team has been doing that all year.
Great balance today, nine players scoring.
And it wasn't just your five seniors, it was freshmen, sophomores and juniors up and down the line.
That's been way it is all year long.
And, you know, different kids will step up different days.
But we talk about team effort and all of them coming out and getting it done and they did.
Hey, state title, congratulations coach, he gave his daughter a piggyback ride and she's not the only one allowed to do it.

All right.
Thank you, John.
Again, a great game right there.
